There is when your guild is 2x the size of the server’s existing population
I’d recommend Gunnar’s Hold. They have a mature wvw playerbase and it was a lot of fun to play alongside them. Given that xaoc are leaving it could be a great choice for prime-time again. They also have the most active community forums/mumble server i’ve seen, if community is important to you i don’t think there’s a better choice really.
GH community has its ups and downs like all others, but the main bulk is still there and still enjoyable to play alongside no matter how small the numbers may be at times.
The server as a whole I wouldn’t say has a mature atmosphere at the moment though, thanks to [HT] guild (not counted among the community because they refuse to take part in it, in hindsight quite thankfully).
High Dmg != Amazing
I’m not sure that giving protection (certainly not 5s) is too balanced, even though the hammer does make the most sense for it and I agree protection would be nice (as long as it’s limited access and dependant on any other survival boosts we may receive).
I would say hammer’s AoE dps is not actually that great at all, infact other than when using sword in my offhand I actually treat the hammer as the secondary because it’s DPS is lower.
Biggest issue for me with hammer atm is that if you time it right you can actually just sidestep away from the attacks because they’re so slow, walking out the arc is enough. Not really sure what can solve this though, if you speed it up it becomes too heavy hitting, speed it up and reduce dmg and it alters the style of weapon. Perhaps give it a longer reach (180 up from 130?) and bigger arc?
You are responding to one person, since only one person said anything resembling what you describe, further that player did not say ‘everyone’ or ‘PvPers’, he said ‘a lot of DAOC players’, which is probably a fair assessment regardless of how you tried to spin it.
It’s far more than this thread, this thread is just the one that made me go “Urgh.. kitten #8221; :P
Gotta love those blanket statements like “PvPers want this” … no, SOME pvpers do. Personally one thing that I like about the game is that there ISNT such things that make you more powerful vs other players.
I’m sure that were most of these same players to lose to someone else with a higher rank than them they’d blame it on them having the extra rank points “rewarded cos they play more” instead of concede they could possibly be outplayed. Pretty sure they’d claim the opposite when they won too.
If you want it, that’s fine, go ahead and say so.. but blanket statements like “Everyone wants this” are just ill founded and wrong. I play only WvW and I don’t care for such things one bit, I’m also not the type to quit once the grind is complete so carrots aren’t needed to keep me interested.
The patches are coming once a month, for the time frame I’d say it’s pretty big. In some subscription games I’ve played you’d be lucky to get a patch which did more than bug fixes every 6 months.
Some people are just never happy. Would you rather they patched every 3 months but it appeared to have 3x more content per patch?
I agree with the sentiment that power thieves aren’t really an issue on my warrior, except perhaps sword ones cos they’re so freaking mobile. I think d/d glass thieves were the easiest target for me in WvW with hammer build, p/d were the annoying ones.
I do however maintain that for group fighting you really need to have backup you can trust – even vs equal numbers being the only melee you’re toast. They certainly don’t suck for WvW but not as versatile as some classes can be. Taking on larger numbers for instance (I mean say 5-10 vs double numbers), I could manage it on my warrior fine when we had a fairly consistent group with guardian/ele’s boosting survival, but without them around larger numbers is just not feasable due to lack of sustained healing and the abundance of chill+cripple. However in those same situations my ele, or mesmer, can run around just fine throwing out damage and make it out alive at the end.
Against bigger numbers you basically need a group that will support you, both in terms of following into the fight and keeping you up. Whilst this in general does sound fairly obvious and – for lack of better phrasing – “Duh”, it’s certainly not true for all classes. For instance the poster above who said he survives great when he’s next to his commanders guardian group… well of course you will >.>
I’d just like for some depth to be added to the warrior, a little more skill ceiling (note: I do not think I’m awesome, just feels you can squeeze more from others). Stances as suggested in a few locations I think would be a good start, Adrenaline does need an overhaul I feel as asides from 1-2 weapons theres too little reason to spend. More abilities taking +effect from adrenaline would be nice, like Adrenaline Surge does.
I try play my warrior whenever I can, but with the change in our group setup it’s getting less and less playtime… not helped by being a norn with mega-obvious hammer animations that everyone dodges/side-steps out the way of
Erm.. ye.. basically, remove the requirement to be babysat from the kitten class philosophy! :P
Playing a norn warrior with hammer gets frustrating fast.. people dodge your stuns like crazy >.<
Main thing that makes me log from my warrior to my ele atm is just survival, no matter how much damage I drop from my warrior I will never be able to last as long as my ele can in the front lines. The frequency of condition cleansing/healing (water attunement every 9s) and constant regens adds so much really.
We really do require the backup of a group more than other classes imo, people to heal/cleanse/protect and most of all – draw fire.
I’ve tried Hammer/Longbow on occasion, and I think my regular build is somewhat similar/the same as yours Coaxial – main issue I have with it is mobility, once your in you ain’t getting out.
Really this is one of the closest scorewise there has been in a while, so throwing out accusations is just making it look like “The only way they could possibly be almost equal with us is via an alliance” which smacks of ego and arrogance.
vigor/swiftness
Elementalists, Guardians and Mesmer have the trait to get vigor on critical hit and so they have perma vigor.Ok, how is this: You get my vigor-on-crit-Trait and i get your Forceful Greatsword. Deal?
Technically you have a trait that gives might on crit to you and allies with ANY weapon at the same tier
And the guardians vigor on crit is a minor trait.
I will however grant you that Empowering Might (?) has an ICD of 1s.
I personally don’t think they are allied at all given there are plenty of times of day where MS borderlands is entirely red >.>
If anything, it’s simply that GH are winning the matchup, but by a small enough margin that both servers know they can catchup, but to do so they need to cut our points income.
Mostly played in 5-10 man groups with warrior vs larger numbers, but as the players in the game evolve (learning to focus fire) and new builds emerge things change a bit. Mostly I think it is dependant on group composition, the loss of the guardian/ele is very noticeable. No more passive healing from the ele, or wall of reflection/pure of voice/regen+prot from the guardian. You definitely notice when you’re the only melee >.<
I actually think mesmer is one of the best solo roamers atm, they have some good burst with blurred frenzy+shatter, and access to both stealth and invulnerability. a Thief’s main advantage in roaming is the ability to pick and choose it’s targets.
I played a War in WvW since pretty much launch until around 2 weeks ago. Mostly outnumbered fights.
Never been a fan of the shout builds, try them frequently but don’t feel I get any extra survival (nor does my group) but lose massive spike damage. Not such a fan of greatsword either, mostly run hammer.
Up until recently I really enjoyed running a knights hammer build in WvW, and whilst survival wasn’t amazing I could still get stuck in (the massive downtime if you have to drop back to heal sucks, esp as tend to have no ranged weapon equipped due to needing mobility to back off to begin with). However, recently we lost our main ele and our guardian swapped to mesmer.. and now I feel like I can’t last more than 10 seconds.
Berserker with GS/Rifle is very strong in WvW, which bugs me because it feels like the game is literally trying to push me towards glass cannon and greatsword all the time, it’s almost always the more beneficial option (fighting 2 players? down one then when the other tries to res you kill them both together, whereas non-glass you cant dps fast enough to stop them getting up).
I’ve been playing an ele a bit lately and the difference is ridiculous, downtime is virtually none as you have at most to wait 9s to swap back into water + dodge and heal up, less burst but the sustain dmg is just as good especially with the conditions on top. Survival… well, no matter how much damage I drop on my warrior I can never be that survivable. Try going back to my warrior for an hour or so each day but between the slow swing speed of the hammer missing due to people sidestepping, the earthshaker not hitting things within the circle and the lack of sustained survival it just feels horrible
Especially now our group composition has changed.
I don’t think Warriors suck in WvW, and I’ve had many a fun time playing with it, they just need a group support that compliments them – plenty of other melee to avoid you getting focused, good healing and cleansing support. Aka: Bring a guard/ele.
Yeah more than easily manage it on the dredge fractal, you can get 24k with axe auto’s without being glass so evis should go waaaay higher.
Stances on the F2-4 have been suggested before and I do agree it makes a degree of sense, make it something you can toggle on/off and literally put your character into a ‘stance’.
I believe in original design (by the way they were described on the old design of the GW2 site) that stances were meant to be toggled, draining adrenaline as they went. I think it would help add some depth to the class, of course many will say we aren’t meant to have depth and are meant to be the ‘n00b’ class, but who wants that! (That’s what Rangers are for
)
Whilst I agree that the GS burst needs to be made into something people actually want to use, last thing we need is giving yet another reason to pick GS over other weapons.
This happened to us once. We had a 10 hour battle in stonemist lord room (literally) between all 3 servers, you could barely cast due to the insane delay. For around 3 hours afterwards everyone from all 3 servers in the entire zone had perma quickness, like the server was trying to catch up.
The problem is of course, it stacked with regular quickness, and it affected movement abilities >.<
I’d like to see an decrease in the cooldown of burst skills be the trait line and have additional damage be traitable for the grand master trait.
I can’t tell you the amount of times that I have Earthshaker back up at full adrenaline only to have to wait 4-5 more seconds.
This is the post that makes most sense to me in this thread.
Look at other classes:
Thief – Steal cd reduction
Ele – Attunement swap cd reduction
Mesmer – Shatter cd reduction
Guardian – Virtue CD reduction
Engineer – Toolbelt CD reduction
There are 3 classes that don’t have it, Warrior/Necro/Ranger, Ranger’s don’t really have a CD to reduce and Necro increases their pool instead of reduce their CD. Further, all of them are 1% but the warriors.
It would mean the replacement of Quick Bursts trait, which is where other useful things can be tied in. IF there was to be a boon strip on burst trait, thats the only place I see it making any sense to fit in also.
But that doesn’t work!! You need to repress it after each fire :P
I usually find everyone gets so bored of trebbing that it despawns hehe, sure hope whoevers doing it has a TV or something handy!
I’m beginning to wonder if FSP use a rota for trebs or if one guy is just really really bored, cos that trebs been firing non-stop for about 9 hours now o.O
To be fair, mass necro’s is a real pain in the kitten to fight anyway. So many wells/marks/conditions in general.. area denial at it’s best.
Some good fights today, some bad too of course but never mind – gotta treasure the good ones!
No one ever remembers us tho, too small!
We finally get rid of you Shiverpeakers for a few seconds from our lil corner of wooden towers and then Ranik come in…
… kitten your hides!! shakes fist
I just want to have a place to rest ;’(
Healing Surge, isn’t even a question for me.
Stop running in an out the tower ya big girls blouse ;p
I think it’s more they don’t like losing, remember how quickly they jumped from Vabbi? Then half of them left GH once we got to T5 and stopped dominating by 500k each week.
FSP really really want Quentin Lake today it seems.
Who wouldn’t want lake front property, it’s prime real estate.
Knock down the tower, build some condo’s and profit.
If only we could knock down the towers and replace them with better ones… I’d love to get rid of that trench, rebuild it up against the cliff to avoid trebs.. ;D
FSP really really want Quentin Lake today it seems.
You will never remove a zerg, it’s player mentality not the game. People want to be safe, and safety comes from numbers. You can up AoE caps etc, other changes all you want, but people will still stick together.
If you make it so the zerg is ineffective for score, it won’t matter, they don’t do it for score (although allowing you to carry far more supply between you and nuke a tower in 3minutes not 30 is a factor – just not the reason people do it).
The claims of being able to survive I believe it was “20-50” people for 25+ seconds, that would come in great at the front of the charge. But all the videos show is standing at the back.
The reason banners aren’t used much comes from two problems:
- so many other classes can provide regen that it’s mostly a waste
- they are too static.
Now sure the 1st one means cos you’re giving regen someone else doesn’t have to, but the 2nd? In BIG fights they tend to be more static sure, in small fights certainly not.
Just a peek at my stats at the moment of this vid.
I can vary stuff quite alot.
More then 10 000 more life and 5000 armor
More heal power or Cond
Dictated by group setup.

Rampage, and you’re in a keep with buffs on it.
Further evidence that this excessive amount of HP is a lie is in another post of yours:
About 15 of us….
About 30+ E-bay
About 30+ CDI
1 warrior healer..PRICELESS

Real vids uploading now**Edit, vid working now.
Video shows 23k.
As others have pointed out, you say at one point 2×6.5s endure pain AND a procced one (defy pain) .. so where’s the 3rd coming from?
Lastly, from your opening post
Heals :new trick at bottom I can AOE regen 900 range 333-409 a tick NON stop always+ buffs that come with flags. ( never ending)OR I can AOE shout heal 600 ranage+cure+buff instantly 9000 about every 20 sec.( again, based on whats best for group makeup.)
I have found a way within the rules to both shout heal and also how to regen 20+ at the same time
Shout healing AND banner healing, without any shouts on your bar or being able to somehow take 2 tier3 traits? I’ve yet to see evidence to support this ridiculous claim.
Had some good scraps at Golanta myself last night, hopefully can find a few more of those smaller fights this week
Is there any confirmed GvG? I feel like watching!
Sup,
We are still looking for some Guild vs Guild action preferable tomorrow on friday evening. We are up for 10v10 15v15 20v20.
I’ve seen quit some big guilds out there so why dont you hook up with us for some fun?
Message me here or ingame or whisper me
sincerely,
Desert Sun
I would offer you.. but our activity is far too low, so I shall be merely a spectator. I’d imagine CHvc or PRXM are your best bets for GvG at the moment.
Aye, looks like an AC against the gate to me. It’s a useful way to kill siege inside.
Actually, I was in EB. But FSP’s BL was in that state before anyone of us started to get login issues.
To be fair, the login issues affected everyone. GH had 3 people online during the downtime.
DL had quite a few though, they were defending SM and taking FSP corner, and 10 golems at our keep within 30seconds of login fix.
Heh Wicked, that’s pretty much how it feels for my lil 3/4 group as well (only in EB, we tend not to visit the BL’s too much).
I think its unfair to Xaoc saying they made Gunnar another of their projects. They came here to settle down, and a big part is still around. There was some intern twist that made a part leave
That’s not exactly true though, the part that left did so because they came here wanting to pull the server up to #1 and then realised that the server wasn’t capable of it and had an argument with the person in charge of Xaoc at the time (who had told us they weren’t after such things.. hence why he was frustrated with this revelation). So in a sense, it WAS a project, and they DIDN’T come here to settle down.
Majority of those who remain want to settle down… but it certainly isn’t the case for the large contingent that joined a few months ago.
I do wish EB was slightly bigger, but I prefer the fact it’s a more constant 3 way fight, and there’s a lot more objectives to fight over.
BL’s on the other hand feel too large to me, interested to see what they’re going to do with the lake.
Personally I just wish everyone would be so fixed on arguing >.> Never mind the rest of it.
I wouldn’t say Blacktide was a failed project, just a stupid one. Guilds like to hop to the winning teams everyone knows this, so then when you hop to a server and go to all the guilds you know “Hey come here it’s great!” and they all do just that… don’t be surprised when other guilds/alliances do the same, and suddenly start crying about it being full ¬.¬ Of course then said server breaks up as everyone moves off.. and begin the process again.
Matchup wise, it does get frustrating to try take a tower with what troops we have only to be flattened by a zerg – FSP at quentin or DL at Durios. But we know the same old song and dance now, we know it’s going to happen, and whining and insulting each other as a result is just petty.
A 5second change to a single ability on a single class is making WvW worse? Um.. okay… slightly blowing that out of proportion.
I also don’t want many of the changes that have come/are coming (progression I think is just far too slippery a slope, esp +% dmg etc) but to say it’s unwanted.. well, majority do seem to (sadly!).
Those are a myth ;o Everyone knows it! Ask anyone.. they’ll always say everyone else is a noob
Kill count is largely dependant on tier though, due to population within the maps. Lot less time between fights, and fights are quicker due to more dmg thrown about.
Damage done gets you more contrib? We have glass cannon aoe wars.. wheres the fun in that. More to the point, look at the rest of the way the game is designed, they are encouraging interacting with other players – does it encourage zerg? a little bit perhaps – this is where score comes in. Bit it would change the philosophy of the game.
It is good that it’s being done by both kills and objective events, as it means you don’t prioritise one over the other. Hey do you know what would give the best XP? DEFENDING AN OBJECTIVE. You get kill XP AND event xp. Far better than just keep trading.
Keep trading also goes completely against the main aspect of WvW: Score. So any servers doing that en masse gl! And we all know that Ego is the main driving force here so I can’t see too many dropping their tiers for that.
This is exactly one of the reasons I didn’t want progression introduced to begin with, hell one of the things that drew me to GW2 was the lack of it. People just take the path of least resistance and ignore teamplay completely. People always say if you don’t put a ‘carrot’ in then players quit, whereas I find that with a carrot players grind like crazy then quit cos theres no carrot left. If it’s not there to begin with then sure you lose some at the start, but the players who stay stay for a long time.
Lastly, this isn’t DAOC. Will everyone stop saying make it like DAOC ¬.¬
Talking about D/D ele’s with a guildie once he suggested that if you gave warrior “heal on burst” for say 2k it would be probably similar to a D/D. Now that’s a complete lie ofc, they heal passively with regen+soothing from attunement, heal on attune, heal on dodge, regular heal and 2 heals on water weapon skills too :P
But, it would be a step in the right direction to making us more survivable as frontline, but not as survivable as that light armored class
We need a mixture of the self-heal and some damage avoidance. Heal on burst would be awesome, but it’s implementation hard… if it’s too strong a heal, we just go slightly tanky and survive till our next burst, if it’s too weak then it ain’t enough because all you have to do is burst us while it’s on CD, as we don’t have any strong passive healing like regen etc. If adrenal health scaled with healing power that would help.
Dunno about you lot but the reason I struggle to fight d/d’s on my war is because of the combination of constant moving out the way and healing. Vigor ofc helps you dodge a lot but as a warrior we can’t rely on dodging too much if we still wish to dodge, due to our damage being direct and not leaving fields around like them :P
We need a combination of more damage avoidance (not mitigation) and healing to really stand in the frontlines. Strong vigor uptime from trait would be good (we have one, but it’s not a lot), both the other real ‘frontline’ classes have vigor on crit (ele/guard) traits as well as healing… and good condition cleansing.
Come to think of it, to make us properly frontline we’d need to change our whole class design
Pigeonholed into shouts with soldier runes atm with greatsword offhand for escaping :P
I agree that the current emphasis is on big guilds to a very large extent, which is a real shame.
I don’t think the influence required should be linked to size – as people will kick all from guild to get low costs, buy upgrade, then reinvite. Instead I think link the influence EARNT To the size of the guild.
The smaller the guild the more influence you earn or the larger the guild the less you earn (so that proportionally it stays the same). I know Warhammer Online managed to do a similar system with guild XP – if you had say 1 member then 100% of the XP you earnt went to guild, 10 members then 10%,100 then it was 1%, 500 it was 0.2% etc.
It’s already difficult for small guilds to keep up constant WvW buffs etc, but this is just silly
This thread is embarassing ¬.¬ and that goes for BOTH sides. We are likely to face each other several times in months to come, people already complain that FSP go for GH (true or not, doesn’t really matter) I think it’s fairly obvious they will be doing nothing but that from now on.
Personally, yes FSP have a fairly hefty zerg.. even supply camps don’t seem to be taken by anything less than full numbers, but GH are just the same when we get the people online. I don’t find AG or FSP and different to fight, sure AG use different tactics but they have just as big a zerg only it’s made of guilds instead of pugs – which in a sense makes it worse because guilds shouldnt NEED that many. For anyone complaining the old “throw numbers at it”/“you cant fight without outnumbering us” insult then when a guild does it surely it’s even worse?
I have managed to find several smaller fights with my guild, we are only 3-4 on average and mostly just stick to camps at the moment. Had a 30minute 3-way fight over a camp in AM BL earlier which was just nuts!
