Should shard cap for raids be changed?

I stand by that 100 shards per week is a good cap because it limits the frequency that things like ghostly infusions enter the market and also maintains the value of rewards like ascended armor that can be obtained through other means. A lot of players also play specifically to hit the cap, so if the cap gets raised people will go back to what was happening with only 1 wing out and grind failures of bosses to hit the cap, which is not what ANet wants.

Or cap the shards per wing. About 40 per wing should be fine.

Yeah, and PvP for challenge, E-Sports as well as glory and honor. LOL!

Scripted Combat can’t be done for challenge, once the choreographed moves have been learned, it quickly becomes a repeatable routine, with the only challenge being in what the other players do.

Which brings us back to elitism and PUG’s, If there really was any desire for thrill and challenge in PvE, no one would be an elitist that just wants to quickly clear content.

Set, Game, and Match.

Wow. Whats going on in your head. Your hate towards raids and players doing them is crazy.

You basically say raids aren’t challenging and you complain that people don’t do raids with unskilled/newer players. If it would be so easy why are there still soooo many that are still not able to kill the Vale Guardian?

And as I said I want “challenging” content WITH good rewards. If I only wanted the reward I would farm SW or multi loot Tarir all the time. But I don’t.

So how can the reward be the only reason I do raids?

Holy sh.., d you even know that many of the very good PvP-players (not talking about the few “esports guys”) are the ones who are posting in this subforum because they usually play PvE and belong to the speedrun community? I guess not. This ignorance hurts…

And second paragraph leads to absurdism when you notice that PvP is way more toxic than PvE. So after your logic PvP is far-out from thrill and challenge.

Also why are PvP players complaining when they get bad teammates. I mean “If there really was any desire for thrill and challenge in PvP, no one would be an elitist that just wants to win.”

At least raids are played for challenge and fun, unfortunately the rewards aren’t that good.

The several thousand posts on this topic have made it very clear that no one plays raids for the challenge or the fun, it’s all about that loot.

Bullcrap. I almost always have every raid boss killed by Monday, but I still like doing raids with my guildies on the weekend, even though I don’t get any reward for it. I have 3 other friends that do the same with their own guilds, just because for us, it’s a really enjoyable experience all around.

Just because you don’t like something doesn’t mean no one else does. :/

So, you would be fine if say, players could get the same loot and rewards though fractals, or if world bosses dropped mag shards, or if players could open/complete the Legendary Armor Collections by doing Jump puzzles?

I’m gonna bet you’re gonna say No, because, in the end, it’s all about that sweet, sweet, unique raid loot.

It’s about getting more with your time… which right now barely works. If it didn’t have unique rewards it should give something like 10 gold (mats or pure it doesn’t matter) per boss AT LEAST.

/small edit

Thank you for proving my point, it’s all about that loot.

My post was to show you that we don’t need “exclusive rewards”.

Now WHY would you do something difficult that also takes more time if you can just press 1 and get the same loot? Difficulty should be REWARDED.

Harder the content = Better/more loot

How hard is that to understand? It’s so simple, makes sense and is fair. Why would anyone be against this philosophy?

Well, not saying you do this, but some people make the claim that they want Difficult content because they seek challenge and that it is the thrill that drives them.

Now, Thank you for illustrating that is not the case, and that it’s really, all about the loot.

Are you kidding me? It’s about seeking challenge AND getting rewarded. Is it possible to get that into your brain?

Example:
I HATED doing SW (and still do) for the rewards (which was the BEST at that time) but I LOVE doing raids for the rewards.

If what you said is true and I do raids only for the loot why did I rarely do SW? Maybe, just maybe I do the raids because of added challenge?

Also you can’t have content without appropriate loot in an MMORPG. The only exceptions are stuff like role-playing but otherwise pretty much every player wants to be rewarded for certain content in an MMORPG and if the loot isn’t balanced right you might see players not wanting to play that content (WvW before the update? Dungeons after HoT?). So why shouldn’t raids be balanced right?

I give raids a 3 out of 10 with all things factored in like story, immersion, combat, profession designs and their combat roles, replayability, inclusiveness…

The devs could do way better.

Yet most players who do raids consider it to be really great. At least compared to the rest of the game which is more lika a 1.5 out of 10.

Neox.3497

It’s not elitism but simply the difficult content and bad players that cause these problems.

“Good players” (experienced and/or skilled players) want to clear the content.
“Bad players” (unexperienced and/or unskilled players) want to clear the content too.

Now pretty much everybody wants to avoid the “bad players” and they only want to play with the “good players”. (Remember: They want to clear the content).

The funny thing here is that not only the “good players” do this but even the “bad players” which results in more requirements and more checks to avoid those “fakers”.

The problem with that is that those requirements aren’t perfect. “Bad players” can fake their Legendary Insights and just lie and say they are experienced (resulting in kicks after a wipe and more delays) and actual “good players” without many boss kills and Legendary Insights get kicked without even a try.

If you look at this the cause are after all the “bad players” (which exist because of the high difficulty). NOT because of the “good players”.

To the ones who complain:
If you are have the skill to beat the boss I can only recommend you to find a raid guild and to prove them that you are good. IF YOU ARE ACTUALLY GOOD YOU WILL FIND A PLACE.
If you don’t have the skill to beat the boss: Practice, practice, practice. And if you don’t want to practice raiding isn’t for you.

Should shard cap for raids be changed?

Neox.3497

When there was only 1. wing available you got 100 shards per wing, your point? Back then you couldnt salvage drops for more shards.

Sorry, but this is WRONG. The amount of shard for wing 1 bosses has stayed basically the same since raid was first released: 10 for VG, 14 for Gor, and 18 for Sabetha (though I may be wrong and Gor at one point only gave 12 shards). And there’s also the 8 shards from the mini events.

Noone stopped you from playing wing 1 a 2nd time to hit the shard cap

…no one stopped you from failing VG 100 times to hit the shard cap either, your point?

The point: You should be happy that you can cap out without repeating content now.

The problem is that you will be capped after doing wing 1 and wing 2 meaning no more shards for wing 3. It might be ok but it simply feels wrong.

I must say… I don’t get the fascination with shards… I have almost 3000 of these things, what do people use them for? I’m hoping the final wing has some actual interesting items on the vendor.

Well 3k = 3 infusions ~1300 gold.

This will just push people to complete only 2 out of the 3 wing each week. We should be able to choose if we want to complete 1, 2 or 3 wing at a giving week with no penalty if you want to complete all 3 wings. I understand a penalty for repeating the same wing during the same week, but getting no shards for completing a wing for the first time is just stupid.

reminds me strongly of how rewards are structured in dailies. you only get the spirit shards and 2g once, but each daily task has a small reward associated with it as well for doing it specifically.

dailies work. theyre actually quite good.

i dont see why the same kind of structure wont work for raids.

however, i find 600~1000 shards to be too expensive. even 250 is too much when you have/want to buy 4-5 things. but thats a tuning problem with the vendor. not a problem with acquisition.

Not to mention two handed weapons costing 500 shards and Coats costing 400 shards. Instead of looking at the crafting costs they simply took the value of the stats they provide… yeah… that makes totally sense!

Oh and when will they change this: https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Infinite_Slubling_Tonic

I mean… REALLY anet? 500 shards AND 20 gold… for an item that you can get for 15 gold on the TP? You should have expected that since it’s a “useless” item that just fills up your inventory.

Please fix the prices. Thanks.

My idea:
~45 shard cap per wing and add a ~3 shard bonus for each player that killed the boss for the first time. (Limit of ~30 shards per week for that bonus).

This means for example when you do a boss with 5 new players in the squad you get 15 bonus shards per boss kill. (2 boss kills to cap the bonus in this case).

This would mean killing each boss once caps the normal shard reward and helping new players/groups would reward you a little bit more.

I got an idea for a new rune/sigil system:

First you need the rune you want to unlock ~30 times or the sigil you want to unlock ~5 times. (Account or character bound).

Now make runes and sigils salvagable and add new materials like “Rune Essence” and “Sigil Essense”. Superior runes/sigils have a 100% chance to drop one, Major runes/sigils have a 10% chance to drop one and Minor runes/sigils have a 1% chance to drop one.

To change a rune/sigil to one that you have unlocked you need one (or maybe more) “Rune Essence”/“Sigil Essence”.

This would increase the value of all runes and sigils except the expensive ones which however should still have a higher value compared to the others.

of course it makes sense, you get more rewards for doing the same thing on a higher difficulty…
Your examples are horribly bad since it’s not even remotely the same.

No, you get better loot in the T4 chest, for doing the harder instance. You should not get all of the loot for every tier below it when you haven’t done it. It makes no sense to give people loot for a tier they did not do. I’m not arguing that the T4 loot couldn’t be better, I’m just saying it makes no sense to get loot for something that wasn’t done.

Urgh. The daily is “do this fractal on scale 1 or higher” so why doesn’t it make sense?

Also it’s probably a design choice so players wouldn’t feel forced to do 3 fractals 4 times just to get all the loot. So it makes even more sense.

Completely disagree.

If all modes of play have homogeneous rewards then there’s no incentive to branch out and do anything other than what offers rewards quickest, which turns the entire game into gold farm simulator 2016.

Unique rewards are required in this game for driving players to different aspects and area’s in the game.

. If you can’t overlook this minority then I guess sticking to environments where failure isn’t as strong a possibility is the best option and there isn’t anything wrong with that.

It’s never a question of failure, It’s a question of elitism and exclusion.

The two have nothing in common.

In every sPvP map, half the people who showed up will fail, and all smack talk aside, they know this. Yet they still go in and play. For the people that hot join, or don’t have a fixed group, they go in knowing it’s going to be a mixed bag, and the other 4 people could be totally bad, yet, they still take that risk and jump in.

In WvW, 2 out of 3 teams, will lose, And they know this. Yet they still go in and play. They don’t demand that everyone or anyone for that matter on the field meets a specific metric, only that they try their best to contribute to victory.

In Every Dungeon you see that is an Open Pugs that Says “All Welcome” or just "Path (whatever) takes a high risk of failure because they know they will get a mixed bag of players, and in fact some might not know the content at all, or even be able to do the content. Yet they put that tag up, knowing that risk.

Every Fractal that says “T(x) Dailies” or “Scale (x)” is an open invite, while it is expected that someone has the AR to survive, there is no demand they know the fractal, or have the rest of the gear to be able to handle the content. Yet they put that up, knowing the risks.

So there is no fear of a “risk of failure” among the vast majority of this game, and surely not among the casuals.

In fact, it is the people that say “Need to prove your Worth to Join” that are the ones that fear failure.

Yeah because you can compare the fail rate of raids with dungeons and fractals. Haha nice joke.

Also in fractals it’s much easier to just kick a (really, really) bad player and replace him with another.

And how comes that you NEVER joined a “in between” group?

No.. I’m someone that knows what their doing, I’ve already joined quite some training groups and seen enough videos and stuff but I still get denied from the real groups because it’s incredibly elitist.
1 little thing off “meta” and you’re kicked, that’s how bad the end game is in gw2, not just raids. And that’s just a fact.

Again you act as if there are only “training groups” and “real groups”. Do you really think you are the only one in your position or what? Are there really no other players in your “experience” level or what?

How comes that others are able to get some progress without any LI? Are they liars?

Also don’t missunderstand I do think that requiring a meta build and LIs aren’t good things. But when experienced pubs want to have a smooth run and there are a lot of “bad” players there aren’t many other options. It’s not 100% bullet proof but it probably works most of the time.

take dps races out of raids and I would have no issues with them, you can have difficulty without forcing dps as a premium – that’s poor design that comes from the dated power race based MMORPG that is slowly dying.

Poor design? If you take the dps race out you also have to remove ALL varations of gear and replace them with a universal one.

I never said he SHOULD. I asked him a question. Do you not know the difference between “How many have you?”, and “Why haven’t you?” I guess not.

He complained about people not putting in the effort to learn the raid. Yet he doesn’t offer any runs for said people to learn it, and neither does anyone else. THAT was my point. Watching fight video’s and looking up theory crafting about rotations only gets you so far.

Raiding can be a wonderful experience, if lived with the right people. That’s why I say, over and over, raid with people like yourself. They don’t even have to be friends or guildies. Anybody can create a raid squad. Anybody can advertise their run as a training run. In fact, saw more training runs today than actual runs. Raiding is the experience YOU make it to be, not somebody else. After all, you are the one who chooses who to raid with.

Never said finding the right people to raid with is easy, or fast. Is something that takes time, and I understand that many people don’t have it, which can be upsetting, because it feels like the content wasn’t made for them.

And that’s the problem I see a lot of players have in this thread:

Joins a casual/training group (like minded?) -> Fails over and over without any progress -> Leaves because it’s a waste of time

Joins an “elite” group -> Gets kicked for not fulfilling the requirements or for being bad → Is angry at the raiding community

The problem is that most players simply need the practice but they aren’t willing to spend the time for that.

My raid guild is able to do both wings in about 1.5 hours now each monday. But don’t think we were able to do that without any “training”.

‘Having to learn the mechanics’. Raids in this game remind me of watching lab rats in a maze, where if they get it right they are rewarded (and uses about as much intelligence).

Give me large scale pvp fights any day, where at least some thinking is involved on the fly if you want to be any good, rather than a great ‘raid’ consisting of performing the scripted dance exactly as planned with no room for deviation or improvement.

The mechanics are acutally so kittening easy to learn.

The main idea behind raid bosses is:

1. Mechanics
2. Survive
3. DPS

Add to that some RNG (randomly targeted player), different team compositions and you will see that it’s not only about learning a “scripted dance”.

After all even PvP is scripted if you really want to. There are just a bit more variables to it.

That’s what made me stop raiding.
I would catch on the pattern pretty quick, I would die a bit before getting the counter right,
Then look at 5 other teammate keep dying at the same step or not making any progress.

Pretty much the same that’s happening in fractal tier 4 molten boss currently;
People didn’t learn the mechanic as they were just bursting the boss.
Now they struggle to kill theboss.

Hell is the others in this game, at least for me.

RNG is still RNG.

Tokens are TOOOO hard to add I guess right?

The new SkyHammer

Wasn’t this change based on extensive pvp feedback? I thought I was reading a lot of interaction recently between devs and community about implementing these kinds of changes and getting a lot of positive reactions.

The problem was really simple. The map was too different and forced you to basically have 2 builds with your character. One for all maps except Skyhammer and one just for Skyhammer. And that simply doesn’t feel right.

Easiest to Hardest Raid bosses

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

I would give each boss multiple difficulty ratings (10/10 hardest, 1/10 easiest):

Vale Guardian:
DPS: 5/10
Mechanics: 5/10 for ~5 players, 3/10 for ~5 players

Gorseval:
DPS: 10/10
Mechanics: 4/10 for ~5 players, 2/10 for ~5 players

Sabetha:
DPS: 7/10
Mechanics: 7/10 for ~2 players, 6/10 for ~8 players

Sloth:
DPS: 4/10
Mechanics: 9/10 for all players

Bandit Trio:
DPS: 1/10
Mechanics: 1/10 for all players

Matthias
DPS: 6/10
Mechanics: 10/10 for all players

Ranking:
Starting with easiest:
1. Bandit Trio
2. Vale Guardian
3. Gorseval
4. Sabetha
5. Sloth
6. Matthias

Raid wing 3

I extremely doubt they’ll cancel raids considering that team has pushed out more content per worker than anyone else at anet by far, and from all the information I’ve gotten raids are going very well in game. The team said they’d be doing more raids after this one at a rate of about 1 wing per 2 months (and if the third wing coming out in may or june is correct they are actually pretty close to meeting that).

Also just the fact that its by far the best quality PvE content they’ve ever made.
(and yes I’m even including gw1 in this).

I wouldn’t count on that “1 wing every 2 months”. Between wing 1 and wing 2 we had almost 4 months. Also wing 2 has barely any events between the bosses and certainly feels shorter (Not that it’s a bad thing).

Btw about future raids and wings: I’m pretty sure they said that not every raid will have 3 wings and that not every wing will have 3 bosses. So even after the first raid we might see a single boss raid/wing in the future.

Breakbar: unliked?

They just have to change how the breakbar works on some enemies.

Instead of stunning the enemy it should be more like in the old days that once broken you can CC the enemy as much as you want till the breakbar re-appears.

Of course the breakbar should have an idictator that it behaves like that.

I made a Trinity Concept idea a few years ago.

it worked like this.

In PvE Dungeons/Instances, all CC get reduced.. But there is a defensive stat that players can collect to increase the duration of CC and the effect of CC on defiant mobs. So Players can spec for the Controller role.

The control stat can also have a side effect of increasing incoming heals. This makes +healing seem more valued for people that spec heals.

DPS same.

Defensive stats get new stats added for defense, to spec into as a trade off for damage and healing, so everybody dont just run full hybrid and full dps

This seems to be a lot of rework etc.

However if they do some changes like that I would love to see a change to the boon protection: What if toughness would scale the damage reduction of protection that YOU apply?

With that they would have to reduce the default protection. For example players without toughness (eg. Berserker) have ~25% by default and players with full Knights have ~40%.

This would create a whole new reason to get a player with more toughness who can pump out protection without directly forcing it.

The good thing with the “trinity” is balance. 3 roles and every class is able to fulfill their role (usually) just as good as any other class with that role.

Now what do we have in GW2? The roles in GW2 are not set and with that comes a lot of unbalance. We get certain builds and setups that are so good that certain professions BECOME a role and that is a problem IMO.

A good example would be the Phalanx Warrior aka “might provider”. Yes you can play without him in a group (PvE) and get the might from other sources but why bother with that if you can just take a warrior instead which is better AND easier?

If “might provider” would actually be a role that anet is balancing multiple professions could fulfill that role purely on their own on the same level. (Or maybe tune the warrior in that role down)

I’m not saying “make every professio the same” but some actual roles that emerged so far are so limited to only one or a few professions which doesn’t feel right. Maybe more elite specs might fill some of those “holes” but I don’t think that this will entirely solve that ‘problem’.

After all the new elite specs created like 3 new roles, at least in raids.
