Hello,

so is it still the case that warriors are better? Havent really followed the latest trends, so I thought its worth asking. I dont mean an all-out dps build, but something like this. Maybe with a Valkyrie or Cavalier amulet? o.O

Or should I just simply forget it? Does the current state of the game allow to take this as a reasonable idea at all? Or no tweaking can bring a mediguard close to warriors?

Trickery in WvW

in Thief

Posted by: Nimrud.5642

Nimrud.5642

Hello,

I was wondering if the trickery traitline can be used in WvW. All my PvP experience has exclusively been tpvp and I really got used to having the trickery traitline as the core of thief pvp. But I really like that I can afford using the shadow arts traitline as well in WvW as its not only about capture points. So how do you bring the two together? Well… I thought about this spec.

Doesnt look so bad compared to this one. Which is the ‘standard’ WvW spec. Lacks a little survivability and crit dmg/chance in return for ‘trickier’ gameplay.

Or would I be better off using the tpvp D/P build if I want to keep trickery? Is missing out on the Critical Strikes traitline a major sin against the class?

Metabattle vs forum guides

Hello,

I play thief, ele and guard for PvE, and I’ve recently noticed that the builds on metabattle are not identical with the ones in the GW2 forums. Namely Obal’s and DEKeyzToChaos’. To be more specific: sigils. To be even more specific: universal day-time sigils. (So NOT monster-slaying sigils but those that are viable for any daytime content.) Obal suggests accuracy, strength and fraility (depending on build/group setup/weapon/etc.) and DEKeyz suggests strength and bloodlust for D/F ele. While metabattle goes all the way with fraility sigils. So which is the correct information? (For slow-hitting weapons fraility sigils dont look so appealing to me. Maybe good for my thief though…)

Let us save set-ups!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Nimrud.5642

Nimrud.5642

Hello,

what I mean by that: now that ascended gear is account-bound (and tpvp builds/gear/runes/sigils/etc. are just a matter of clicking to change); it is really mind-bending to manage all the gear items (go to a bank, put it in the bank, relog, go to a bank, equip).

My suggestion would still include having to go to a bank, but all the other things would be easier:

Let us save:

1. utility skills on the action bar
2. gear items (in tpvp add sigils and runes too as they are free to change)
3. traits

So basically it would enable us to save profiles for different game modes and remove the need to manually select every gear item/trait/rune/etc. You just open your bank tab and – if the required items are stored in your vault – you just click icons and your gear/traits and utilities change in matter of seconds. If you have all the gear you need in your backpack, then having to go to a bank is a non-issue ofc.

Besides simplicity it also allows you to forget about remembering every build in detail. When one playes more than 3 classes in pve and pvp too, things tend to get a little hectic.

So these are my two cents… Support, rally, complain! Whatever… just make Anet implement this.

i am sure you will be back though, there is not much of alternative out there (that is worth it)

This is my only reason for staying with GW2. Tried many games but none of them comes even close to gw2 pvp. It does not mean though, that gw2 pvp is superawesome. It only means that other games are even worse. Probably that’s known by the devs too. Otherwise gw2 pvp would be completely dead. Those who keep it alive only stick to it because they dont really have alternatives. GW2 has such a great combat system, so much potential. A ‘little’ polishing could turn this game into a really great thing to spend time on. But it’d take money and effort from Anet. And considering the lack of competition, they are not forced to do that to keep their playerbase. Ofc they suffer some losses, but not enough to make them fix the game. I’m sad, but thats how it is…

thief hard countering zerkers specs

Nimrud.5642

Ok so lets say thieves are removed from the game. Will everyone running soldier/cele stop playing those specs? Will everyone run for their zerker/assa amulets? Is the thief the only class that can burst down a squishy target? I think you’ve guessed it: the answer for the above questions is ‘no’. If the thief class had any viable tank spec, you’d see them running cele/soldier as well. Other bunker specs do not only exist because of thief. Thats a flat out lie. Tanky specs exist to counter burst and condispam regardless of source. So saying that its all thieves’ fault is just BS. Consume plasma is OP no question about it, but you’ve gone a little too far because of it. Get some lotion for your aching backside dude!

Consume Plasma definitely needs the nerf. And besides that i don’t want them to nerf the thief class. You’re missing the point…. I just want all the other zerker spec to at least have a chance in the meta. Because it will always be tanky dps and bunker specs. I’m not asking them to nerf the thief, all I’m saying is give the other zerker specs a chance too.

Oh, then we agree totally. (Looking at my poor medi guard.) It was unfortunate to phrase this problem the way you did though. Makes you look as if you want to trash thieves. The problem is with other zerker specs, and that there is only godkitten node-fighting in competitive pvp. There are many problems, not only thieves. Other classes at least have an altrnative to turn to if their zerker specs are not viable. Thieves have none.

A sign that the new TP just doesnt cut it?

Nimrud.5642

I don’t think the new TP is having a large effect on users using the TP. I think you make a compelling argument and it was a good idea and a good use of reasoning, but there are other factors involved that may be missing.

I’m attaching a simple chart of TP Users and Buyers as unique counts relative to logins since the beginning of the month.

Ty for the answer. It is an even more complicated issue than you described it to be. But I am the one who started with a simplified course of thinking to begin with, so I have no basis to put any blame on you.

Your chart ‘should’ also tell us what is considered as a ‘buy’ or ‘sell’ action. Maybe they are more or less the same relative to logins. But what if those who do not log in are the big sellers/buyers? Does your chart make a difference between posting 2 or 250 pieces of a certain item? Or are both counted as one sale?

Anyways, what I can tell you for sure:

Buy orders get filled a lot slower. And it is not because of competition. Because if it was competition, the price level of buy orders would also increase with competition.

Example: The buy order price level for cloth chest items usually hovers around the price of a bolt from the corresponding cloth type – except silk. Bolt of cotton 9-10s, a lvl 31-48 chest 8-10s. (Unless flippers interfere… /angrylook :P ) Or at least this was the case ever since I started to play (Dec 2013). Now you can find many chest items half the price of the corresponding bolt or even lower. Gloves, shoes that can be salvaged into items worth 6-7s can be bought for less than 1s and so on. Before patch the competition was so strong I almost had to do an exact calculation for every item I placed buy orders for, because buy order prices were really close to the ‘economically sound’ limit of buying. Today prices are so low almost all is a no-brainer, but you cant get your buy orders filled.

So whatever the explanation is to this phenomena, lower intesity of trading must be part of it. Anyways it is what it is, I’ll just have to adopt. Back in the day when I was experimenting with different methods for playing the TP, I ditched some ideas due to the market being too active for them and settled with salvaging. Maybe its time to take a look on those again and see how they work now. If they work well, it could be an other clue about trading intesity being low.

I honestly don’t see this decline of demand that you speak of.

When you look at a health of a market you don’t look at the short term you look at the long term.

There was honestly a transition of the way gw2spidy pulled the data around the 10th. It is possible that this is a data error not a actual problem.

Set it on monthly view and it’ll be more visible what I’m talking about. Also my first observations were in-game not from spidy. Buy orders dont get filled, price gaps widen, etc. You can experience these without ever navigating to spidy.

I think you are missing a much more obvious reason for this decline.

People were very angry with the NPE patch, and the smack in the face to veteran players that they saw it as. Many players quit with the launch of this feature patch. There are simply less people playing the game now.

Demand is dropping because there are less players. Sell prices are increasing because there are less players to farm the mats in the first place.

Arent the majority of the community PvE players? Miniature collectors, living story heroes, etc.? I dont mean to insult any1 as I’m no1 to tell others what to enjoy in this game… but did the changes really hurt the majority? Did they subvert fractal/dungeon mechanics, did any class get a serious pve nerf?

I dont think that the rightful moaning of the PvP community is enough to explain such a great decline in TP activity. PvE players stayed, didnt they?

A sign that the new TP just doesnt cut it?

Nimrud.5642

So its been a while since the new TP was launched. I waited for a while until things settle, people get somewhat used to it, etc. But still we seem to have utter ‘disorder’ in the GW2 economy. What I mean by that is that people dont use the TP anymore. Not all ofc, you still can buy stuff but the market volume has dramatically dropped – if my observations are accurate.

The first clue was the rise in prices of crafting mats (scraps, bolts, ingots, etc.). So then I thought ‘Oh ppl are going for the new collection achievements and they keep the mats for themselves, thats why supply dropped and demand increased’. But it seems I was wrong… I checked the buy orders too. And if in a typical scenario – a situation like this results in an increase of buy orders too. Both in volume and price. But it didnt.

So to summarize: Sell prices increased while demand is dropping, sell listings are dropping both in volume and price. This two usually are in contradiction. Why would ppl buy stuff for a higher price and refuse to take advantage of the dropping price lvl of buy orders? Example: bolt of cotton is hovering between 9.20s and 10.50s but at the same time buy orders for armor from which cotton scraps can be salvaged almost halved.

http://www.gw2spidy.com/item/19742

Also, buy orders get filled a lot slower. I used to place 300-500 buy orders every 2-3 days. And they resulted 2000-2400 items on average over 3 days. Now I cant even make it to 500 over a week’s time. Ppl dont buy, and sont sell…

This is telling me that a lot of ppl stopped using the TP in general. Anet, time to get you kitten s in gear.

p.s.: Besides all the convenience issues that the TP changes brought us, the most important is the cap on the buying/selling tabs. Other problems may take a bit more clicks to solve, but this has no alternative solutions. If you have more than 100 buy orders or sell listings you cant manage them, period. So fix this first!

I dont know how much potential I have, but soon I will find out. I dont have the courage yet to enter competitive tpvp with staff though. Our node-fighter group has a hambow and a bunker guard besides me so I’m always the first target of the enemy team. Its a little tricky to stay alive on the staff while being focused. I’m really into MMOs. Mostly the PvP part. What kind of alternatives can you suggest? I highly prefer these middle-age style MMOs like WoW, GW 1&2, Gothic 2 (yes I’m that old…), etc. But I would not exclude Wildstar type of games either if it has a good pvp community and caring devs.

Any feedback from the devs about when and what will be corrected? Many changes suck, but imho they should priorize those that make certain functions totally unavailable. Some features work, they are just more complicated to use. (Buying/selling)

But others are totally unusable. Such as the 100 piece cap on buying/selling lists – making your transactions inaccessible. Actually these changes got me wondering… some of them may really occur due to unintended reasons, but I have a feeling this also has a strong intention to make ‘power users’ lives harder. They dont want any1 to be a kitten businessman. I’ve bought almost 2000g worth of gems since February and havent spent a single dime of real money. How? Well, I made that money at the TP. They dont like that. Some1 with more than 2 braincells can take advantage of the stupidity/impatience of the gw2 community. Buy stuff for cheap, sell higher… So simple. But its not boosting their income. They hope once you get fed up with farming the same dungeons for months to get your legendary, evetually you’ll spend real money and buy gems to speed up the farming.

I’m not saying this was their only purpose, but some changes make no sense at all other than this imho.

Are thief nerfs really that bad?

Nimrud.5642

Black Powder in its previous version was directly comparable to Well of Darkness
Let me restate, for emphasis: a weapon skill which costs the amount of initiative that you generate in 6" had almost as good functionality (1" less duration, slightly smaller radius) as a utility skill with a 60" recharge. I mean, be reasonable here, it was an obvious target for a nerf.

For S/D its no question. Flanking strike not triggering LS when out of range is somewhat acceptable (still I dont think it was gamebreakingly OP before), but not triggering due to blinding or blocking is just stupid imho. So the moaning about S/D being ruined has a basis.

It’s logical though: it’s a chained attack. Every other skill like that in the game doesn’t progress tot he 2nd skill in the chain if the first doesn’t hit. However I agree with you in part: Larcenous Strike wasn’t the real problem in the s/d build. For me, the problem was that, with so many evasions, s/d thieves were impossible to pin down. So you couldn#’t counterpressure them to get them of, they could just back off to regenerate some initiative and keep coming back until you ran out of cooldowns and dodges. So, if it were me, I would have put a higher initiative price on Flanking Strike, and not put any additional restrictions on Larcenous Strike.

Use your head. It’s logical to put an unblockable skill behind an initiating skill that won’t advance to the 2nd skill if it’s blocked? LOGIC!

This! ^^

And some more…

Imho thief always needs to have a possibility to win a fight untouched. The thief is a tightrope-walker. All those who say ‘What the hell, do you really expect this game to give you the ability to completely avoid damage while killing some1?’ And actually yes, I do expect that. Why? Because a single stun/daze/immob/etc. can make you go 100% to 0%. Basically there is no room for error, unless your opponent screws up as well. Thief needs active defenses and the ability to completely avoid damage if one has the required skill level. It does not work any other way. We just simply cant soak up damage. If it lands, it kills us.

Look at it like this: on a warri or ele you need to land 3 times the damage to kill them than on a thief. And if you dish that damage out in a too long timespan, even that wont work. So basically many classes are like having 3 ‘lives’ on a thief like in super mario.

If you want a game where every1 should eat some damage in PvP… Double HP pools for all classes, increase vitality/toughness scaling, tune up dmg by 10-15%, decrease healing. (Maybe increase healing for specs who gear for healing power, but soldier/zerker/rabid/etc. specs should heal a lot less imho.)

I have diverted the topic a little, but maybe I was able to provide some food for thought.

The answer is easy

in PvP

Posted by: Nimrud.5642

Nimrud.5642

If that’s not the case , how do you explain the lack of new game modes or maps all people have been asking for and the high focus on the living story and similar things?

The answer is indeed simple. Too much problem, too few money. They can make a lot more on minis, gemstore skins, kites, etc. PvE being so simple (Take WoW for example: top PvE content caused headaches for months or weeks even for professional guilds – who played 6-10 hours every day of the week. Now compare that with Lupi solos, lvl 50 fractal solos, etc…) does not attract players who seek challage. (Except for those solo/speedrun maniacs.) Therefore all the hard brainwork of top players goes to PvP. Requiring a much more sophisticated environment to take place in. Much finer and detailed balancing. Even for the current gamemodes. Now add new game modes to that… Now they only have to balance around node fighting and some mobility issues. Imagine if flag carrying/death matches/etc. were added on top. People would come up with cheesy builds for flag carrying, or some ‘rez-spamming’ in death-matches and whatnot… Just more headaches for the dev team – not bringing a single penny.

So be ready for nice sounding promises. (They cant tell you right in the face to ‘GTFO pvp scrub’.) But dont expect anything that actually involves serious reworking of the current mechanics and balance things at the same time around pvp. They are more worried about AC P1 exploiters…

So my attitude is playing as many classes as I can/like and if a patch screws me up on one class, I go and enjoy an other that’s just been buffed to oblivion. Until the next balance patch…

Money talks!

Hello,

probably I dont need to describe the hype that’s been stirred up by the thief changes. But are they really that bad?

For S/D its no question. Flanking strike not triggering LS when out of range is somewhat acceptable (still I dont think it was gamebreakingly OP before), but not triggering due to blinding or blocking is just stupid imho. So the moaning about S/D being ruined has a basis.

As for D/P… The auto attack change is situational. Not being able to hit only the mesmer (triggering condies upon clone death) sucks. But corpse-cleaving is really nice. Or if your enemies are stacked together. Black powder… that sucks, but I mostly used it for stealth. Sure, there are a million situations where this change hurts but its not that bad. I mean a good player either avoided it or used a condi removal skill. Stomping sucks though. A warri or guard can hit you once with downed skill #1, and then use their #2 before blindness is reapplied. But stomping in a group fight wasnt our job to begin with. And when in 1v1 or 2v2 its not that critical.

I by no means am trying to say that we are where we were before patch, but does all the crying really have a basis?

Partially the power users pain comes from exceeding some of the display limits added to make everything more responsive. While responsiveness is hugely important for general usage we are aware some players have ‘hidden’ orders they can’t manage.. and that’s not good.

My biggest concern is the above problem.

There are some bugs with new TP that will get fixed and we’ll definitely be discussing other changes brought up. So please continue to give constructive feedback especially valuable when you explain how you would use something instead of how to fix it. (eg: I wish I knew if i’m undercutting myself, vs match my lowest needs to be a button.)

And – following your advice – here goes my ‘constructive feedback’: Pls make those nasty display limits go away. Showing all orders/listings on one page would decrease responsiveness – I understand that. On the other hand 10 per page (the old version) isn’t good either. Something like 25 per page would be nice. And ofc I’d like to see all my listings/orders.

Alternative solution: give me my chosen legendaries plus 3k gold and I wont click on the TP tab ever again. And you dont have to fix a thing. Easier for all of us!))

How Do I See Buy Orders Older Than One Month?

Sorry for messing your thread up, but I have to correct myself. I logged in this evening and my older buy orders appeared. After a good 2 hour delay. So cancelling works, you just gotta wait a little. However it still only works for buy orders placed after the patch. Anything older than 2 days is completely gone.

Summarizing info for other posts:

Most tabs/etc on the new TP only look at ~100 listings. This persists through any of the variety of filters or sort orders that you can use.

I’m going to call it a bug, since I can’t imagine that this was done deliberately. Until it’s fixed, there is no way to cancel older orders, unless you first cancel enough of the newer ones.

Cancelling doesnt work either. Check my last post in this thread: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/bltc/Maximum-number-of-items-for-sale

I tried canceling all my buy orders hoping that if I remove those that were filling up the space in my transactions list (My Transactions/Current Transactions/Buying), I’ll be able to see my older buy orders. But no… they are simply impossible to see on the list. (Its empty now.) As if I never placed those buy orders. Yet the items still keep popping up in my delivery box. Its not a huge problem until prices significantly move. But if they move down, I’ll be buying a lot of stuff way above the reasonable price. If they move up, then so will buy orders. So in that scenario 300-600g will sit idle at the TP and Iwont be able to cancel them. And this applies to buy orders that were placed after patch. Only yesterday I placed more buy orders that can be shown in the transactions list just to see if the new ones disappear too after exceeding the limit. And they do… :S

So basically anything that gets ‘pushed out’ from the list because of placing new buy orders, will disappear forever. This needs to be fixed. Either I lose a huge chunk of gold if prices move lower than the value my buy orders were calibrated for, or approx. 450-500g will sit idle at the TP. Not good perspectives! Gogo Anet, do something about this.

Good gods, you’re right! o_0

The only way to access older sell orders/listing seem to be typing in the name of an item you look for in a search box.
Good luck remembering what you have listed few months back!

How this is an improvement to previous version of TP?

It seems it’s worse than that. Even if I use a keyword to search a specific group of buy orders (like ‘acolyte’ or ‘student’ or ‘rascal’) my buy orders just wont appear. ‘Sorry, no items match this filter.’ And at the same time said items keep popping up in my delivery box. So its 100% sure that I have active buy orders of them, still there is no way to see or cancel those orders.

Same issue here with buy orders. I can maybe see half of my orders in the transaction list. TP-players have officially been screwed. I really do hope this is unintended and will be corrected asap.

Sorry for the noobie-interruption, but am I getting it right that the pvp community picked up the slack instead of Anet when it comes to organizing events? According to my memories the ratio is somewhere between 1:3 to 1:5 of Anet organized and pvp community organized tournaments. Which shows how neglected we are. I tend to accept all the other issues we have with Anet, but come on! Is it really hard to do Blu’s work? If he can do it while having his own life (and the problems that come with it: school, work, etc.) then what would it take for some1 who has an actual job at Anet?

Not that getting answers for these questions would change a thing, still I had to share my dissatisfaction.

Hello guys,

is it viable/good/amazing to use focus as off-hand for the 0/0/2/6/6 celestial build? I’ve only heard about D/F builds for PvE so far. From the top of my head I cant see anything that would screw up the regular D/D mechanics. I was playing with the idea of switching my off-hand dagger to focus when the enemy team setup requires so. (If you need extra projectile defense: earth&air #4, or if you get spiked a lot earth #5 and so on… Water #5 is nice too, but hard to land in a 1v1.)

thx

p.s.: Not to mention the surprise-effects it causes in those who are too used to fighting D/D and Sc/F eles.

Most of your stamina comes from Acro traits (Vigorous Recovery and Feline Grace) plus the evade from Withdraw. The only difference is Flanking Strike. Which obviously is an advantage, but not ‘way more’.

However the teleport is really good. Question is: is that the only factor to decide? D/P #4 and #5 are better than S/D #4 and #5. So its not that simple, or is it?

Dont get me wrong, I’m not here to ask for advice and then try to school others. I just want to make sure that I squeeze out the proper answers from the community.

Explain the s/d Thief changes to a Mesmer?

in Thief

Posted by: Nimrud.5642

Nimrud.5642

No, it wont be cut in half. Just a little less (15-25%* max I’d say – as the ‘mug+AA+sigils’ part of it will remain the same). But you not only use LS in your opener. Whenever it was used without hitting a target, it made LS available. After patch it, wont. Basically it’ll be harder to make LS appear on your action bar at all, and once it still does it’ll be harder to land it.

  • Some1 more knowledgeable could confirm that pls.

Nimrud.5642

Its not that I guess. The problem comes with the change to flanking strike. Namely it wont change to LS if it hits no target. Now you can use it without a target, then precast LS and teleport to your target to make it land. (LS has a really long animation to it, so its much more problematic to land it without precasting.) After patch, U’ll have to engage first which will negate your burst (LS+Sigil procs+Mug+AA).

Hello,

I see this build being used for dueling or 2v2. But not for tpvp. Probably there is a reason for this. I could not figure out what that is though. So what makes that build inferior in teamplay? I cant see why its popular with S/D and neglected with D/P.

ele vs warrior

in PvP

Posted by: Nimrud.5642

Nimrud.5642

Hello,

after some experimenting and a great bunch of advice from the pvp community – I’ve narrowed down my intentions about playing a mid-fighter class to ele or warrior.

I really do like playing a D/D celestial ele with the typical 0/0/2/6/6 build, but I feel like I’m a walking target dummy. I do fine in 1v1, I can mostly hold a 1v2 until help arrives (if at all). But it seems that whenever I enter a group fight I become the enemy team’s primary target. And ele skills are fine for countering sustained dmg or a burst from one player, but other than mistform (obsidian flesh if you play Sc/F but thats not your typical mid fighter build lol) you have no abilities that will save you ‘no matter what’. Endure pain or the block from shield #5 are much better and dont prevent capture point contribution. And ofc you have a lot more HP, toughness and passive heal.

So all in all I feel like that the cornerstone of mid-fighting is a heavy CC class, thats also tanky. And this description fits warriors perfecly. Maybe certain engie spec can do that too. And if I dont have such a player on my team, there’s nothing that can prevent the enemy team from killing me first always.

FYI its also definately a L2P issue, but still I’d like to know in which class should I invest that learning. Ele looked tempting to me, because its a more versatile class so I though it’s great if I have the potential to deal with different situations. But in the end it seems that being a jack of all trades is inferior to being master at one particular role.

I’ve already answered my own question, so I’d just like to know if I have any flaws in my course of thinking.

0/1/6/6/1 or 0/1/1/6/6?

in Guardian

Nimrud.5642

Hello,

so which one is better for spvp/tpvp? (Ofc I’m talking about a bunker spec.) Does this depend on my team’s setup or the enemy team’s?

What I’m also unsure about are weapons. For one staff is mandatory. But for the 2nd weapon-set I’ve seen different options. Mace or Scepter main hand and Focus or Shield offhand – with Mace+Focus being the most common. I’ve also seen Staff+GS. Some additional AoE from the GS (or the pull) may be of more use… So which weapon set?

I usually use 3 shouts occasionally switching one with sanctuary if we need extra stability. Is that ok?

Thx
