Maria Magdalena … I might be too conservative, I’d stay away from that one.

Sassy Crittina? Sorry, don’t want to throw you off, Crittina Sassin has a certain ring to it.

What do you mean by ‘certain ring’? Bad or good? (I’d guess you’ve meant bad…)

Btw I never thought about this name that has anything to do with being sassy. I just rearranged the letters of assassin: one goes to the end of CrittinA, the rest goes to the family name except for the double S. ‘SSassin’ looks stupid to me. But, nvm. I knew I needed your advice guys. See how lost I’d be without you?

Anyways, I’m taking my sorry kitten behind away from here – thanking you for your answers again.

Ty for all the answers, now I can finally decide.

Btw, Swaggerstorm doesnt work unfortunatley. Exceeds the character limit by 2 letters. :S Which led me to a new idea: Crittina Sassin/Mugdalena. Is this ok? (I know I’m getting annoying, so this is the last name I offer for discussion.)

So I was messing around with a totaly identity change kit, and when it came to deciding on a new name. I started feeling helpless. I want a funny name, but to know whether its good or not imho you need to be a native speaker. Learned language can never give you that super-sensitive gut-feeling you have towards the language you speak from birth. With this being said:

My original name of chocie was Crittina Aguilera. I really like the ‘Crittina’ part, but the family name could use some altering. (She’s a thief btw.)

So my ideas are (only family name):

-Steals (seems a little lame to me, but dunno)
-Steale (altered version of the common ‘Steele’ family name)
-Meelean (—>Christina Milian, however probably ‘meele’ and ‘mili’ are not pronounced the same way, so this may be too messy)
-Frombehind (‘von Behind’ maybe also works)
-Hardseeker (intetional ‘misspelling’ of the Heartseeker abilty)
-Swaggerstorm (^^)

I like the first and the last one the most, but dont let that distract you.

Ty for the kind help!

I chose Deadeye Dunwell and used this build:

http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fZEQJAoal8MpwpFPxxJsPNRLhsdoNf86t2PuEA-e

Shadow Shot, Head Shot and Black Powder are more than enough to blind/interrupt his isntant kill skill. Shadow Shot and Steal will provide the neccessary teleports, so that you can ignore your 0% stamina and being crippled too. Worked like a charm for me. But S/P works with the same logic, however I’ve found D/P better because of Shadow Shot (teleport and blind for one button press is safer than Sw 2 then Black Powder).

Go to a bank, view wardrobe, look what is available, choose what you like the most and then look how to obtain it. You can also ask here how to get that or this armor.
But there are no special mystic forge armors, only weapons.

Oh, it took 2 answers before this got into my mind. Sorry guys. Ok got it, ty. I just so stupid…

Hello,

so I got my first toon fully decked out in ascended gear, and the time has come to get the looks all right. And I want to make sure, that I take every possibilities into account.

So would scrolling through the TP and checkig all the gem-bought armor cover the whole spectrum (plus cultural armor and the order armor skins)? Or are there other ways to add armor skins to your wardrobe? I’ve heard about some mystic-forge-only skins, but I’m not sure A] that they exist at all and B] if they are armor or weapon skins or both.

So how do you experienced/look-freak guys go about this matter?

It’s not crappy, it looks like a fine, solid build, and if you are happy with it, it’s good. Interrupting their heal is worth a backstab – and the boons as icing on the cake will help to down them pretty soon. I assume that is the plan.

I do enjoy it a lot. I would ‘have to’ love it anyway until I get my ascended gear for WvW (- now completing the last piece for PvE). Having both SA and Tr with full six points gives just so much options, really thief-like hyperactive gameplay.

I just need(ed) some encouragement, and some fine critique. Where I live, we have a saying: more eyes see more. So keep looking guys, and warn me pls if you find any flaws.

Hello,

first of all I’d like to apologize: I’ve posted this to an other thread (https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/thief/Gear-Advice-D-D-for-WvW/first#post4064726) but I got zero answers. And I’m usure if its because I wrote complete BS or it just got ignored. However I’m really ethusiastic on this build, so I’ll give it an other try. If I dont get answers this time too, I promise I’ll leave you guys alone with my crappy build. So here it goes:

Gear Advice D/D for WvW

Hello,

what do you guys think about this build:

http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fZAQNAoaVlsMp0plPx7JsPNBNhw9oaz8O83yaFA-T1BFABCcKFQS5XJ7Pkm+GAeSBFq+zVKBDAgAcz2sNvZ28m38mP6RP6RP6R7m38m38m3sUApsMC-w

The spec I desire to play in tpvp, however the cap mechanics dont favour stealth, so its only WvW…

Anyways, I find it really ‘thief-like’ lots of control and defensive mechanics, condi removal, etc. Tricky as hell, just like the thief should be imho. Missing a lot of dmg increasing traits though, but full zerker gear will make up for that. (Not to mention, that with scholar runes you can bring your PvE gear along too. But str. runes are better I guess. —> Thrill of Crime + Hidden Assassin)

ty

I think I need to add to this, so:

First of all, do you think its complete BS? Taking 6 points in 2 utility traitlines is just over the top? Except for the newest S/D build, all zerker thief builds used to rely on CS traitline. CS+DA for PvE, CS+SA for WvW, CS+Tri for spvp, or Jumper’s old 1/6/0/6/0 S/D build, etc. And considering the the variety of possible strategies (take all the abilities a 1/6/0/0/6 P/D thief has and add all the tricks to that, that a WvW thief has) – it is just stunning to me how much control you get over the course of actions in a fight.

My thoughts for alternatives:

- could take stealth on steal trait from SA (works well with the lowered Steal CD) – though I have more than enough ways to gain stealth with this build, so I didnt take it

-could go D/D + SB instead of D/P + SB

Having added all this – I hope my idea is much more ready for discussion.

Hello,

so SR is a no-brainer. Probably Inf. Signet too. But what about the 3rd slot? The two top contenders are: Signet of Agi. and Shadowstep.

ST has a stunbreak on teleport, and an other stunbreak on SR plus 3 condies removed. 50sec Cd.

Signet of Agi has +180 precision if not on CD. Endurance refill, 1 condi cured for all party members. 30sec CD.

In teamfights the signet is the clear winner with team condi removal and edurance refill, but I am a roamer. Or at least I try to avoid all teamfights where I’d have to endure damage like a hambow warr. So shadowstep seems to be the winner for me. BUT, the 2/0/0/6/6 spec takes quite a lot of dmg away already. Wouldnt ignoring Signet of Agi. bring my crit chance too low? (Not proccing my sigils often enough.)

I dont want to ruin anybody’s business so I wont go into the details, but if you take a look yourself you’ll see that ore, cloth scrap and bolt, wood, etc. -prices have been stirred up. Graphs mostly indicate that the main reason is change in the supply volume. So are people hoarding, thats why supply on TP dropped? Or have nodes / salvage rates been nerfed? I dont know about any patch-specific crafting project (like when Spinal Blades ‘messed up’ ore prices).

I hope the question is not too general.

Complete List of Thief Nerfs

in Thief

Nimrud.5642

Also, the business system that they use in this game adds to what you have said. GW1 was Buy-2-Play whereas GW2 despite being, seemingly, Buy-2-Play as well, has Gem Store. You might argue that no one is forced to buy gems – indeed very true; I don’t buy gems myself and I know many people that don’t either. Yet, there’s a big group of players that purchase gems and they ‘demand’ nerfs just because they donate. ANET obviously caters for their rants because without them they would earn only 50% (as it were).
On the other hand, there’s a group of players (mainly ex-wow) that claim that gw2 is F2P because (!!!) you don’t have to pay monthly subscription. They believe that no one has a right to ask for content updates, balance etc. because there’s no monthly\quaterly fee.

Don’t get me wrong, I love GW2 but GW1 did lots of things a lot better, especially PvP. It was called Nerf Wars for a reason. Particular comp too strong? Fix/nerf in 2-3 days. They changed things frequently enough, though, that people had field to experiment after each patch. On the other hand, we had 6 months of cond meta followe by 4-5 months of hambow and decap eng. E-Sports not happening despite amazing take off in August 2012.

Its a little hard for me to make the connection between gem buyers and complainers. If every gem acquisition would involve an opinion poll… But other than that I can only agree.

Complete List of Thief Nerfs

in Thief

Posted by: Nimrud.5642

Nimrud.5642

Its not dependent on the thief class’ actual state, this whole nerf thing is dependent on how the community percieves thief OPness. Anet is a business looking to satisfy customer needs that translate into money. Therefore Anet does not give a kitty about the class’ actual state or how balanced is it at high-tier tpvp. They will balance things on medium level or even lower, and they will adhere to the public opinion about certain things. So if thieves are not OP but a significant part of the community think they are, thieves will get nerfed even if Anet knows the class is ok. Its all just math: thief buff—> only thieves are happy, thief nerf—> a lot more people are happy.

But dont get me wrong, its the same with every issue. Not only the thief class get this attitude. They serve customer needs, and only look for solutions that result in the most widespread satisfaction within the community.

So all in all: when it comes to issues like this, imho its pointless to try to argue along the lines of ‘game balance’ and ‘competitiveness’ and try to convince the devs to do this or that. Sure, they will do it IF(!) it gets/keeps customers. We – forum readers/writers – have a false view on the community. Many of the players havent read a single thread here, let alone writing one. The reasonable and detailed discussion that goes on between the ‘forumer’ community and the devs is just concealing their real attitude. They will make it look as if these were mostly technical issues and they are working on it, thats why you dont get your solution yet. But in fact, they will never fix that whatever that you complained about, rightfully or not.

And Anet is not even to blame for this, they do this to make money. Like everyone else who runs a business. I’m only saying this to prevent you from getting too lost in a reasonable arguement. Its pointless. No matter what a genius kitten you are or how good your ideas are, if little Joe/Jill/Jack is mad about your class, it will get nerfed.

If you don’t want to be hated, play…. umm… Mantra mesmer.

If you insist on playing thief, never go into stealth! never dodge! and for God’s sake never press 2 if you’re using dagger mainhand, and never press 3 on P/P, S/D or S/P, not on D/P or SB either. The only thing you are allowed to do is 4 on D/D and SB, although people hit by SB’s 4 will give you the " ‘-_- "-face. SB’s 2 is quite okay too, but pure torture for yourself, since you’ll be in queue for the next game before it lands on the ground, sometimes people you were aiming at will get hit by it a while after they’ve logged out and when they log back in the next day they will find their character dead and are totally clueless what happened.

If you’ve made all this clear and still wants to play thief, forget everything I said and use whatever elite you want to. Since all of them have counters, none of them are an unorthodox choice.

:))) Thieves should not be able to log in the game! When one is online its already overpowered, let alone if the player pushes buttons.

To be more specific:

Oh btw, if I want to change the amulet, should it be barbarian or knight?

This… this is 2 0 0 6 6 S/D Thief right? :0

Warriors -are- tanky. If you like 1v1 builds, Axe/Sword + LB 2 0 6 0 6 Soldier’s + Strength Runes is good. http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fJAQNAncTjMdUFaZIehwJaghgCdOUCxgpAQ9ZE7dBA-TZBHwAGODAAeAAd2fwZZgBHCAA
Hambow is good 1v1, it can perform well and do a lot of control with Hammer F1, 4 and 5. You also have immobilises from Hammer 3 (need Leg Specialist trait) and Longbow 5. It just loses to Axe/Sword because Hammer has large tells on its skills. If you’d like to see it in action, you can go to twitch and watch the NA ToL finals – the winning team APeX has 2 Hambow warriors, and one of them is a home-point defender with a few 1v1s for much of the matches. http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fJAQJASTjMdUFaZIehwJagqgCdFEAPg6hoxzhUbAA-TZBHwAAuAAGeCAd2fwZZgBHCAA

The usual specs now use Soldier’s for the durability, and use battle sigils + strength runes as well as fire + blast combos for might. They also slot intelligence on the axe and hammer for hard-hitting, might-stacked crits even if the amulet is a really defensive and tanky one (Power, Toughness, Vitality).

If you like really long stuns, then as before, mace shield GS is a really strong 1v1 duelist spec (unsuspecting foe + valk amulet). http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fJAQNAR5ejMdU2ZZIWhwJaAlgC9K8Bjwx2OAUmFXBA-TZBCwAAOCAOeAAgLDo5iAEb/BA lots of variations. Slot sigil of Rage, trait Last Chance and Last Stand and use Lyssa, put in Zerker amulet and you have a pretty surprisingly powerful quickness spec.

Guardian is usually popular as 0 1 6 6 1 team support bunker, because it’s just so good at that role. You can also run DPS guardian as triple meditation, but that requires you to be Zerker to be effective.

Almost… Its coming from a 1/6/0/0/6 D/P thief (and a 0/1/1/6/6 Sc/Sh + Hammer guardian – if this matters at all). I tried out the 1/0/0/6/6 S/D build but I dont really like it. I like D/P, but its a pain. And considering that I’m kinda noobie in GW2 – I thought first I learn the game mechanics on a more forgiving toon than the thief. I enjoy that guard build a lot, I just want to see whats it like to do it with a warrior.

Ok, so either I was asking complete BS or I wasnt specific enough. (…thats why I’m not getting too much answers here.) If its the first, I cannot do much about that. But is its the second reason then here is a guardian support/control build from Jax.5261:

http://en.gw2skills.net/editor/?fVAQNAS7elsApWo1DxVI8DRBGBldFC/4tB7AkgFcDA-TZRDwATuAAaLDwc/BAHEAJPBAA

So what would be the warrior-equvivalent of this build? I do realize that this much support cannot be expected from a warrior but still… a little less support than a guard with a little more damage/CC than a guard would be nice.

If this whole idea only allows subpar builds/gear to be tweaked out from the warrior class then tell me. Is it ‘zerker all the way’ like in PvE? If it is, then I’ll have to adopt.

Nimrud.5642

Hi,

I’ve been searching around the forums for a rather tanky and/or CC-heavy warrior build, but could not decide on my own. I play thief guard and ele, but have hardly any clue about the warrior; so its much wiser to turn to you for advice.

So here’s this mace build I’ve found:

http://en.gw2skills.net/editor/?fJAQNApeRjMdU2ZVImhwJaAmgCdGMBt9xIIAUGFfOA-TpBCwAAeAAaOCAx2fI/hA4yJAIcZAA

All credits to: BurrTheKing.8571

But some say mace has been nerfed too hard to be viable. Is that true?

Then here’s what Ralkuth.1456 said about the currently viable builds:

‘You can run GS/LB and be a 1v1 skirmisher. (Frenzy Bull’s Charge, Lyssa, Zerk 4 0 4 0 6)
You can run Hammer/Longbow and be great in a teamfight, or okay 1v1. (Triple Stance, Strength Rune, Soldier’s or Zerker, 0 0 6 2 6)
You can run AxeSword or Shield/LB and be good 1v1. (PVT, Strength, Soldier’s, 2 0 6 0 6)’

None of these really seem to be tanky. (Or are they?) Which one of the above have the most control over the enemy?

Oh I almost forgot the support build:

http://intothemists.com/calc/?build=-sFFo;1NKVO0Y4JL-60;9;6TT9;418C16B3;02OmFZ;1ZF18ZF189cJ

and there’s this build from the same guy, that I dont even know what to call:

http://intothemists.com/calc/?build=-s7Fo;1NKVP0f4kL-60;9;4E-O-T2;328;227ARNW6S;1CoF2CoF20Jh

The only thing I’ve figured out is that I dont want to play hambow as it is ideal for team fights. Therefore it is more suitable for organized pvp. But I mostly do solo Q, so I’m looking for a build that can operate on its own.

So pls help me find that tanky and/or heavy-CC build.

Solo q and thieves

in Thief

Posted by: Nimrud.5642

Nimrud.5642

Hello,

I was wondering how our role changes from the tpvp roamer to something else (that I’m not really getting atm). Because from my experiences – solo q is just way too different from tournament finals or any other high-end pvp. Namely, that roaming that is thieves’ job usually in coordinated gameplay cannot be done in solo q due to its unorganized nature. Its very rare that the typical ‘hold middle plus home or far and we’re good’ tactic is used. Players group capping empty points just to get score, mini-zerg running from point to point, etc. All these situations tend to end me up in a group fight (2v3, 3v3, 4v3, etc.) where I’m the primary target of the enemy team. I almost can hear their thoughts ‘get that thief first’.

This is partly a l2p issue too, I admit. So what I’d like to know is how do you stick to the roamer playstyle? When you know that the enemy team is organized, you can expect a certain style of gameplay from them and you can prepare in advance. But what if the enemy team is unorganized? What do you do to adopt to a completely unpredictable enemy team? How do you (try to) make sure that all your encounters take place amongst favorable circumstances? All in all: How can you still stay a roamer when everybody else is running around too like crazy?

World bosses and DCs

Hello,

disconnecting during a world boss kill with this new megaserver system is fatal. It was not fun before, but when I logged back at least I still had the chest on the ground and above the minimap. Now when I come back online I get to a different map where:

-either no boss kill took place
-or a different boss was killed (same name and look ofc, only difference is that i did not tag it before going offline)

And I never get to lay my hands on those beloved dragonite ores (and who knows what else was in those chests). So it would be nice if something was implemented to solve this issue. Such as, you get your loot via mail or all your loot is in those chests that appear above the minimap or anything… Just solve it somehow pls! I’ve lost 200+ dragonite and other loot. Really discouraging.

Thief, the pvp profession that sucks at pvp

in Thief

Hi,

I think we need to break some untold ‘secrets’ here to see things clear. First of all: ANET is not trying to make this game awesomely/perfectly/fully functional or balanced. They dont care, not even a tiny bit. What they do care about is how the average player PERCEIVES the game’s current state. So – going back to the topic – if thieves are perceived to be OP by the average player, Anet will nerf them. And it does not matter if that perception is based on reality or not. Anet wont make a guide to noob/unskilled/casual/softcore (pick ur favorite) pvpers ’Here’s why thieves are not OP:… And here’s what you need to learn to counter them:…’ etc. They simply wont do that. Because those who dislike thieves wont even read it. If they do, they will still think that thieves are OP; and – here comes what ANET do not want, not even in their worst nightmares – they will lose interest in the game, as their egos get devasteted. They dont learn combat mechanics, let alone class-specific mechanics. Sometimes they dont even understand their own class machanics…

The whole idea behind GW2 was to cater for the ‘underdog population’ of WoW and similar games. You know, those guys who after years of playing still dont know how to make a dps/tank/etc. build, what stats to go for or how to beat that dead-simple boss that’s been out for more than a year now. Those who go to arena with the most ridiculous comps/gear etc. Those who are first to man the turrets on Teq, shooting random mobs instead of boss. I’m not judging these guys, they may be just way too young (5-8 years) to be able to understand things and focus. They may be mentally handicapped indeed – which is not something one jokes about. They may be extremely tired once hardcore gamers, now having a family and a job. There are many explanations where ‘noobs’ come from, but it does not really matter to us and its pointless to get mad at them.

What we need to understand is that Anet focuses on them mostly. Their money is totally same as yours, and as long as they can be convinced that playing this game is worth it Anet will care about them. Thats why there is no hardcore PvE content (so that elite players or guilds cant ‘outgear’ you and you wont feel like a sucker), thats why there are only 5-man dungeons (so that no organized, dedicated guild can leave others in the dust), thats why most world bosses can be killed by ‘111111111111111’, and thats why thieves will be even further nerfed – if the community still keeps complaining about their OPness.

Anet serves the menthal needs of players (feeling special, to be a hero, to be dominant) but it does not give a kitty about creating some perfectly ideal and balanced game where your achievents/skills/strengths/weaknesses are accurately reflected back by the game and you are rewarded accordingly. They avoid it like fire, as it would tell the average player that ‘you suck’ and ‘See that sword? Thats what you never gonna get, cuz getting it takes to be arena champion." They dont want that in today’s ego-based world. They want to make everyone feel special. And this is their most important goal, feeding hungry egos. Cause thats whats gonna keep player playing this game.

And all the ‘reasonable’ arguments coming from them serve to hide this fact. As the more intelligent and/or dedicated forum-posters/readers are the ones that ask questions about these things – they can not say ‘kitten your worries, this game is not for you’. So they will make it appear as a technical issue that they ‘trying to fix’ or ‘trying very hard to come up with a solution’. These things actually mean: ‘we could fix that in 5 seconds, but then little Jack will get his superhero warriror 1-shotted from now on until the end of time, and he’d be so sad he might even quit GW2’. Thats the bitter truth imho.

p.s.: Complaining about stealth is one fine example for this. The hate towards stealth is only psichological, not factual imho. If this average noob I’m talking about fights a warrior, and is about to kill him and sees ‘Blocked’ pop up on his screen he says ‘I almost killed him, but he used his shield… bad luck, but thats how warriors work’. But same thing when fighting a thief: ‘I almost killed him, but this cub of a kitten vanished! Thieves are so gay! They stealth when I want to kill them.’ So Anet is like: ‘And there goes your nerf, dear thieves…’

And finally, to add something constructive as well (which – for the above mentioned reasons – will be completely ignored): Buff stealth to oblivion (default blind on stealth, default dmg reduction, cannot be hit by AoE or melee cleave, default condi removal, etc.), but extend ‘revealed’ debuff to 15,25 or even 35 seconds. That way those who dislike it because its spammable and those who dislike it because it does not give them enough protection could both be satisfied.

Anet, pls nerf this boss to the ground! Make it dead simple like Shatterer! Or put the kitten thing to an instance! Before April 15th I could not make it to a map where a kill attempt was taking place due to player number cap. Being there 30-40 minutes before the actual fight still wasnt enough to avoid overflow. And now… I had one kill. YAAAAY! And 20+ failed attempts. None of which got further than 95% HP. Its just so hopeless!

People go there and screw things up every way possible. The dead dont rez, too many/few defenders at turrets, turreters not using their skills properly, megalaser fail, etc. People who know the fight are constantly spamming map chat with useful advices, but no1 listens. Either because they dont even bother reading mapchat just run there, turn on autoattack and wait for the loot. Or because they dont speak the language. they have no chance of understanding it in the firast place.

So all in all: any boss-encounter that’s difficulty level is above average-braindead, should take place in an instance. So players can form a capable group, do things coordinatedly, and exclude all those who: dont speak their language, have no knowledge of the fight, refuse to do as told just for the sake of trolling, etc.

No pug raid will ever kill Teq! Well maybe my 1:23 success:failure ratio can be still applied as an average… I’m quitting Teq fights until this is resolved. Which means – to be honest – forever, because I have a feeling that ANET wont do kitten about this. Or probably wont put Teq in an instance. The only realistic solution is to nerf the fight down, so that autoattack heros can win too.

Call this a rant, vote me down or ban or whatever; I dont care… I hate wasting energy on pointless things, especially when other’s attitudes make that thing pointless.

Hello,

so the mysterious title refers to the following dilemma: Will my ascended gear still be usable by all races (a profession which uses the same type of armor ofc) if I put the cultural armor skin of a race on them? Because the cultural armor pieces’ tooltips all say they are race restricted.

Is there any hope for gw2 pve(dungeons)?

You seem to be confusing ‘viable’ with ‘optimal’ and ‘build diversity’ with ‘gear diversity’.

Dungeons can be done with pretty much any group composition and with any build, meaning there is build diversity. It’s just people choose to do it the fastest way, thus limiting the diversity.

That’s not saying that more couldn’t be done though (Defiant and how higher level players scale down needs a rework, for example), but rather than introduce pre-defined roles that never change from dungeon to dungeon, the encounters themselves need to get the players to look at the tools they have and adapt to the encounter. This is where ‘depth’ comes into play.

For example, imagine for a minute you had a dungeon with 3 bosses:

  • One was a duo boss where one builds up a buff when moving at normal speed (stacks faster with Swiftness) and one builds a buff when standing still, that applied permanent stat bonuses every second.
  • One was a boss that did increased damage based on how many boons they had on them but took increased damage for every condition on them.
  • The final fight would take place on a platform above some spike pit. If more than 3 players stood within a certain radius of each other for more than 3 seconds, the boss would dig, erupting from that spot, knocking players away from each other and destroying that part of the platform. Another move could be that a player gets a ‘bomb’ placed on them. X seconds later it deals % damage based on how many people it hits (100% for one person, down to 0% for all 5).

What skills (and possibly traits) you take in them cases would be different:

  • You’d need to take CC which you’d use while kiting for the first two bosses.
  • Boon stripping, boon corruption and skills that apply conditions would be useful on the second boss.
  • Constant stacking and everyone melee wouldn’t be a viable strategy for the third, but awareness of where everyone is would still be necessary.

Excellent ideas! There are many things that are commonly used in PvP but meaningless in PvE. Probably because ANET wanted to avoid making PvE too complicated favoring less knowledgable/skilled or just simply casual players. I’m not saying ANET should turn all PvE content extra hardcore, I do think they should keep the majority of dungeons for the casual player base. But higher level fractals (and also a hardmode version for every explorable path) could introduce more complicated mechanics where blindig/boon strippng/ stability/projectile reflect/mass swiftness/etc. is not only nice or handy but is an absolute must. Requiring much more situational awareness and group coordination.

My cents:

Remove the condition stack cap in PvE (only in PvE) except for vulnerability. Make burning to be able to stack (also only in PvE). This would make condition builds viable as they wouldnt lose damage output. Make boons from combo fields have a much bigger range (1000 or 1200) than the combo field itself so ranged attackers also get the corresponding boons (for example the radius within which a fire field burns foes would stay the same). Same thing with shouts, auras, etc. Tune up mob HPs to soak up the damage increase. Make pets and minions 90 or 95% resistant to AoE damage (red circles, lava, boss cleave etc.) only make them take full damage if they are directly targeted by a mob or boss (also only in PvE). Add mechanics to dungeons (especially bossfights) that priorize cleric, soldier, etc. gear sets.

There is just so many unused possibilities in this game that otherwise could be awesome. Pls let us use as many as possible and be effective at the same time.

Quick trait setup switching feature?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Nimrud.5642

Nimrud.5642

I started a similar thread just after the patch came live, but it did not get enough attention…

I really do support this idea. I main a thief and its a pain to switch around gear and traits between fights. For single target melee: D/D, for melee cleave: S/P, for ranged P/P or SB. These all require different traits to reach their maximum potetntial. Then you can go full dps (6/6/0/0/2 for thief) or go for a little more survivability (5/6/0/3/0 or something like this). Then there are the WvW traits… It would be awesome to be able to switch traits and gear with one click, so you can quickly adopt to the situation (switching from roaming traits to zerg traits and vica versa). And I also prefer to use a different build for open world bosses and temples.

So this is way more than what can be easily managed by changing stuff one by one. I really do hope this feature comes live asap. +1 from me!

That wall of bricks...

Nimrud.5642

Thanks Zero, you pretty much summed it up. Truth is I’m insanely in love with thief and ranger. (Played hunter and rogue for 6 years in WoW.) I just love stealth and the quick playstyle of the thief. As for the ranger… BOWS! Bows are my thing! But it was a heartbreaking experience with my ranger in PvE to find out how hard rangers suck. (Yep, I know… 1H sword and Moa and stuff, but I wanted to pew-pew like in WoW.) It takes a lot of work and a lot better gear just to be on par with dominant PvE classes, and after a while its just impossible to keep up no matter how skilled you are.

This was my experience with my ranger. And this is what I dont want to see again on my thief. Especially that PvP is 10times more complex and skill-based therefore invested effort based – which all can go waste if I dont choose my path of progression wisely.

But this is the point where I should stop unless I want to end up QQing here.

This “wall” you talk about is nothing more than hitting the maximum attainable with a thief in PvP.

Pls dont take it personally as I dont mean to attack you in any way, but this just cant be true. If it was, we would not see guys like Dustin, Caed or Sizer ranked so high. They hardly could make it to the top 200. But there are quite a lot of thieves in the lets say top 200-300 players. My question was not about whether it is possible to get up there with a thief, it was about the diffculty of getting there. It has always have hurt my dignity to choose the easier way and go with a warrior, somehow the greater challange (that you can do the same or even more than a warr with half the HP in both PvE and PvP) made me feel ‘special’. (lol, this sounds nerdy) But maybe this time I’ve put myself to a too hard challange.

Anyways, ty for the input.

Hello,

first of all I’d like to tell you that I’m not a pro, not even a little better than average (though I hope to be). Many threads that go along the lines of ‘teefz are OP’ or ‘teefz suck’ bring up the question of the poster’s skill level. So now you know from whom this is coming. (On the leaderboards it says 59% next to my name so I’m average or a little below that.) With this being said – I’m struggling with a dilemma:

Is it worth it to put effort in learning how to PvP with a thief? With PvE I’m totally satisfied, and accept the strenghts and weaknesses of the class, and it keeps me motivated as I see a lot of room for improvement. So if I work on being better, the results will come accordingly. The reason why I’m hesitating about PvP is – ingoring the lot of BS thats going on pro-thief and anti-thief – that it seems there is a huge jump in the reguired skill level as you progress with a thief. As far as I could understand knowledgeable players (who are humble enough to collect proper experiences before forming their opinion) all say that for a while theif will make you feel good. As it is easy to gain a huge advantage from stealth against noobs. But as you move up in the ranks, and you get to fight more and more players who know thief mechanics, you gonna be destoryed. And this point is the above mentioned ‘wall of bricks’ that takes a kitten lot of work to break through. So much that maybe only hardcore players have a chance (and time and dedication and…) to do that. And any average Joe will be stuck in their progression once they reach said wall. I dont have a crapload of time to play this game so I’m trying to choose wisely what to invest my time in.

So all in all: Does this wall really exist? And how hard is it to break through?

Handling trait/gear swap

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Nimrud.5642

Nimrud.5642

Hello,

I’d like to make this into a serious suggestion towards ANET, so if you feel like supporting it, click a ‘like’ (or whatever it takes in these forums to show your support).

Adopting to the current in-game sutiation is essential as we all know. Anet actually wanted us to have this attitude. They gave us more trait, utility, weapon, etc. choices than can be put on your action bar and gear slots. So we swap them around a lot.

So the suggestion I’d like to get support for is the following:

Add a feature to the hero tab in the game, that allows you to save certain setups. So it all can be done by clicking on an icon instead of switching weaps, traits, utilities separately. It would be extremely helpful in dungeons/fracs where you dont really have the time to do all this 3-6 times in one run. On other occasions it would only be convenient. You could have setups like: ‘speedrun’, ‘fractals’ or ‘single target’, ‘cleave’ or ‘ranged’, ‘meele’ etc. Probably you are getting it by now.

So pls vote this up, or send a blank reply (or whatever it takes to officially draw Anet’s attention to this idea). And ofc add your ownsuggestions if you think my base idea needs polishing.

The trait Critical Haste won’t drain your endurance like Haste will, so I don’t know why you wouldn’t want to take that trait.

Min/Max for D/D:
6 DA – Sundering Strikes, Dagger Training, Revealed Training (or Improvisation if you’re going to be using conjured weapons from an ele in the group)
6 CS – Side Strikes, Critical Haste or Signet Use if you still don’t want Critical Haste for some reason, Executioner
2 Tr – Flanking Strikes or Thrill of the Crime if your team needs the boons

Min/Max for S/P:
6 DA – Sundering Strikes, Combined Training, Mug (or Improvisation if you’re going to be using conjured weapons from an ele in the group)
6 CS – Side Strikes, Combo Critical Chance, Executioner
2 Tr – Flanking Strikes or Thrill of the Crime if your team needs the boons

Min/Max for P/P:
6 DA – Sundering Strikes, Combined Training, Mug (or Improvisation if you’re going to be using conjured weapons from an ele in the group)
6 CS – Pistol Mastery, Combo Critical Chance, Executioner
2 Tr – Flanking Strikes or Thrill of the Crime if your team needs the boons

Critical Haste the trait is not the same thing as Haste the utility skill. They should just call it “Critical Quickness”.

I am well aware of that, thats why I wrote them down separately. But I admit it is confusing. I just wanted to make sure that neither the trait nor the utility will be included in the answers I get.
