Rename the "Range"r

Is this a ranger Q.Q thread or a thief Q.Q thread?

Either 1 is entirely one’s opinion but I have to disagree to both. On my thief, in spvp in zerker gear I end duels against rangers in a draw. The last 4 fights with my thief against a ranger I ended in a draw, 1 of those fights was after a gvg in wvw where everyone was 1v1 at that point (the wvw fight I was in valk). The reverse is true as well, on my ranger I can’t kill (good) thieves but they cannot touch me. Its this magic feeling inside called l2p. Ranger isn’t strong in pve, but they are great in pvp especially 1v1 due to the pet advantage (and don’t even enter water as a thief against a ranger…).

Thief, is mostly predictable. Few builds challenge that but most people just go the easy route and try bursting you down, which only works if you are running zerker against the highest DD burst in the game (after recent patch I’d say warrior is quite close though with axes). If stealth is your issue, you should be paying attention more. You don’t run straight down a path with your camera aiming 1 direction the entire time, you look around. Thieves don’t have stealth for miles, you should be able to spot one inc and retaliate before anything nasty happens. In spvp, well you know they’re stealth, and should be able to retaliate before anything nasty happens. Keep 2 things in mind:

Invisible =/= invincible
A zerker thief dies just as fast as you would if you had no defences.

500 AP for GW1 Hall of Monuments Intended?

I don’t understand how people who claim to be “ap competitive” yet they don’t want to get any HoM points. In other words, you wana be on some meaningless leader board (really, ap’s arn’t something skill based, its just exploration and actually doing something specific vs grinding a dungeon or playing wvw) but you don’t want to do all the achievments.

I played gw1, and only got maybe 10 HoM. I knew people who played gw1 for years on end TRYING hard to get those points and they got rewarded. Both in gw1 and gw2. They didn’t push a couple buttons after paying $20 + expansions and get 500 aps, they worked for them.

If you didn’t play gw1, well then deal with it. The fact that people got rewarded for their time and others are jealous is just ridiculous. New players or pre-existing players who didn’t bother with ap’s are late and far down this magically important leaderboard. Does that make it fair that a large group who farmed them since release are ahead? Yeah, it was something that was worked on, and we get rewarded for it. I could care less if a gw1 veteran had 500 ap’s more than me, he/she earned them. People seem to cry over any reward they didn’t get… sheesh

So… you want us to be gods?

I main thief, and 90% of those changes you listed look far too strong for any of the 8 professions. Not saying thief don’t need some changes, but thats too much in the wrong direction.

The only skills on thief that need changing really are ice drake venom, needle trap, tripwire, signet of malice active, roll for initiative, and spider venom. The rest have their place and are quite effective depending on the build.

In all honesty every profession has a list of skills and traits that feel underwhelming, something that is slowly turning around as we see more buffs/merges across all 8 professions.

starting to think this thread was a bad attempt at trolling.. I mean, what person can code that? And why give thief every single condition in the game?

Make Celestial Gear Perma/Sellable.

NinjaEd.3946

Truthfully, I don’t see celestial stats sky rocketing after Zs leaves. Most people are going to do the content, the few that missed it, can buy the recipes off the tp and buy the quartz. Quartz, can be farmed when zs leaves, just not in large quantities. Also celestial isn’t the most attractive stat so the large supply that will accumulate throughout this event will last a long time and then more will trickle in afterwards. It won’t be dirt cheap, but it won’t be out of reach.

This made a lot of sense because look at the past temporary nodes. There were a ton, and it was farmed mad. Then it went away, and no one really uses it as much (soo many listings) Now it won’t constantly be coming in huge supply but it will be possible to collect still. Supply won’t ever go out, it won’t go in crazy high listings unless everyone in the game is after celestial stats, I like it. Can’t call it temporary anymore, just wish the scrap aquired skins would stick around for a long time… I want that wind catcher

Stealth isn’t a realm in this game, its a distraction. At best, the only thing I believe stealth needs adjusting in is increased stealth duration, increased revealed time by a couple seconds. I don’t think 20 seconds of stealth or only allowing ooc stealth would work, because soooo many traits are centered on entering stealth.

To keep it short and sweet, completion of the personal story grants that character a permanent reduction in the cooldown of racial elite skills.

Why? Because they are basically cosmetic skills. They arn’t all that effective. Also this gives people a reason to do the story line more than once. 15% reduction would be pushy but I feel it would be fair. This would not apply to racial utility/healing skills, only the elites.

Ele, dieing? Are you zerker staff? I really don’t get it.

Unless you build to wipe you should have no issues, warrior can take far less of a beating than a good ele with how much burst heal they got. Ele can also group heal fairly well, guardian can too, and put a thief with anyone with access to a water field and you got massive healing. The need for a healer only class is absent.

Introduce counters to Stealth mechanic in WvW

Mist Form – Lasts 3 seconds with CD of 75 seconds, you can’t activate it before you start to stomp. All you need to do is move while downed to completely negate this, or affect the opponent before they’re stomping you.

Elixir S (This is what I assume you meant) – Lasts 3 seconds with CD of 60, you can still affect the player before (and after) the stomping attempt. Just move once while downed to negate completely.

Stability – Every class has it, can still be damaged, especially by your allies. whats the problem?

Blind – Every class, especially thief, has it. Doesn’t stop your allies from interrupting / damage

So… Lets compare to Stealth stomp?

Stealth – Permanent for thief, pretty much. Most of the time you don’t even know you’re being stomped. You activate stealth before you start stomping. Your allies? Don’t know you’re being stomped, so they don’t do anything about it.

Stealth stomping – apparantly you can just move. (only 3 professions can move while downed, thief ele and mesmer. Thats not a solution to the other professions. Mist form lasts 3 seconds, it’d be quite hard to time a skill for that last second. If a thief is in stealth, and an ally can’t figure where they went after trying to stomp you…. theres your problem. Invisible =/= invincible. Also if you see an ally down and a thief went stealth near them, it’s wise to get them up asap and put cc on the downed ally. Thats entirely based on the team communicating.

The problem with stability finishing is if you cannot move while downed sure an ally can hit them but they cannot interupt them. Neither can you. Most classes that have access to stability are beefy and can take the 4 seconds of dmg and/or easily recover from it. Mistform and elixir s make them invincible, much worse than dealing with a stealth player who can still be knocked down, launched, knocked back, etc.

Jumping Puzzles and Mesmer portals

in Suggestions

Posted by: NinjaEd.3946

NinjaEd.3946

I totally disagree with this. In my guild we have some (specially older) people who can’t do jumping puzzles. We are a very social guild that help each other with everything. This includes with doing jumping puzzles.

GW2 is a social game that encourage helping each other. There is nothing wrong with a portal and wanting to get rid of them in puzzles is in my opinion very selfish and anti-social.

So if an older person can’t do a dungeon path, we should put in a insta-kill all button for them because its only fair to not exclude them?

No, this isn’t being selfless or giving, it’s being lazy. If you cannot do content, then its not for you to do. If they start making things too easy and no one will be in pve. If these older people (which really… age and other qualitities should have no say in what is fair and isn’t fair. The content is for all, YOU don’t be selfish) can’t do high level fractals, should they be dumbed down? Nty. Not making a personal attack, but using handicapped people as a prop is just a poor excuse. Portals shouldn’t be allowed in any way to skip content, it’s supposed to be a tactical skill not a content skipping skill.

Being social would be helping them do the jp (kill adds, explain the jump, give tips on not over-shooting a jump, etc). During the wintersday and halloween jp, those didn’t allow skills. If someone has never really done a jp and just took a portal all the time, how are they at all prepared for a time trial jp?

I personally got annoyed with the new jp they added in gendarren fields. Instead of wasting my time, I just went to do other things. A mesmer portal or doing the jp myself, either way I was getting a recycled skin with exotic stats. Nothing useful.

Ice drake venom and Needle trap

NinjaEd.3946

When you see those 2 utility skills, what do you think?

If it’s anything positive, you’re probably in a psych ward, sorry to break it to you. But really, these 2 skills are just bad. Not just the cd, but the use just doesn’t work. Could they buff the dmg? Sure. Would that fix it? Not at all, its not the numbers its their inner workings that are the issue.

Needle trakitten mall, a long cd, and only applies a few seconds of use. The immobilize is nice but 30 second cd for a 4 second immobilize? Bolas are much more effective, as is pin down, and spike trap, and muddy terrain, and glue shot, etc etc.

Ice drake venom, even with venom share is just pointless. Could buffing the duration be useful? Yes, but unless you do it very carefully it would become too strong. There is no need to buff the numbers, instead they skills should be redone entirely.

I suggest these with absolute knowledge that they arn’t likely to be taken into consideration. Simply putting what I feel thief could use.

Karka Venom: Your next 3 strikes transfer a condition from you to your foe. (behaves like all venoms, missing consumes a strike, etc) 45 second cooldown. Only because thief could use some more options for condi clearing and Veteran Karkas do transfer conditions on hit

Needle trap: Place a trap on the ground. Once triggered, the enemy will get poisoned and crippled. Additionally if they are near other enemies they will share their conditions for the remaining duration(180 range). Unblockable. Cooldown 40 seconds. Poison duration buffed to 12 seconds. Cripple duration 6 seconds. Kinda like epidemic but in a trap form and more passively done. In solo play it’s not all too effective but it could work great in group play.

Limited content has its ups and downs. It does force you to play or you miss out, however it treats the game like a narrative that the players experience. It’s basically an interactive book.

Im not against or for this living story, some parts I loved while others left an bad impression for me. The best solution is as a post awhile back was about, a npc to let players re-experience content they missed. The rewards can be toned down, otherwise everyone would just relive the ancient karka and get a precursor over and over but to experience it and get some reward whether it be ap’s (which are going to be useful soon) or titles or a skin that was exclusive to that event (not gem store items).

Many options to go about this while keeping the evolving content moto. Another thing is to not make content that just promotes mesmer portals. Make a reasonable jp that has no way to portal to the end with and theres the perfect jp. This new one is just too obnoxious to want to repeat, there are no safety nets, no checkpoints. You fall you dead/restarting.

im telling this 8 moths already and im amazed how anet is ignoring this problem. srsly thief jumps into like 30 enemies he puts /lol in chat then disappear. no other character can do this. no other character has the power to run from 30 ppl. thieves do. and they can laugh while they are in the middle of that crowd. but its not only that they have ability to run from 100% danger situations, the biggest problem is that thief is actually doing tons of dmg jumping from stealth and back in it. and when you actually somehow manage to bring their hp low they stealth run away heal up and get back to fight of course. this is most annoying class to fight against, where you actually cant win no matter how hard you try and mo matter how skilled you are. plus they also immobilize and spam blind at you so that you by any chance couldnt hit them at least once or run away from them. this class is just LOL. i will ignore all `l2p`or `qq` comments because i know that those comments are gonna be from ppl playing thieves KNOWING that thieves are op but they are just AFFRAID anet will nerf them so they defend their op class as hard as they can.

Umm… ele?

They can rtl into a group, throw some Aoe’s down, stack conditions boons, and mist form to safety. Thief doesn’t have a SINGLE skill that makes them invulnerable and ele has atleast 3 (including the downed mist form) Yeah, I’d say thief isn’t winning that fight. If you had literally 30 people and they couldn’t find 1 thief you must be on a T7 server and have no knowledge whatsoever on the other 7 professions. There is simply no other explination for that.

I’m talking about lag. I can run, move, dodge, max (near) graphics and its fine. However nothing is registering (traits, skills, etc). I tried doing the jp in ebg and I lagged out twice. Once at the near end and nother time half way through. I’m not talkin skill lag, I mean my pc isn’t perfect so handling 100+ players on a screen, I can expect a little lag. However in a near empty zone or simply LA I just cannot respond sometimes. Often times I just log off because it’s unplayable. I think there is a post on this issue but maybe it’ll be merged.

Either way this has been going on for months. I thought I had a virus or something but all I use this pc for is gw2, lol, gw2 forums/related sites (wiki, gw2lfg, timers, etc) and SH2/3. None of those present a threat to my pc, so idk. It’ll be fine at times, other times its simply enbearable.

NinjaEd.3946

@Oprheal,

I have doubts you ever played thief to the full extent. There are a lot of things you point out that arn’t true.

-Bv doesn’t suck, you just have to know how to utilize it, as with dagger storm.
-Condition clearing comes in a couple different ways. Sigil, runes, traits, skills, signet, sword/shadowstep.
-Zerker’s and perma stealth isn’t the only option, its just easier for people to learn. There are builds for thief that don’t rely on stealth the entire fight. Do they still use it here and there? Yeah probably but it is far less than what you claim it to be.
-perma stealth means staying in stealth. Thief cannot stay in stealth and kill someone, unless they’re afk (poison, caltrops). Whether it be on my warrior, thief, or ranger I have no problems seeking a thief who goes invis. Often times I can kill them, other times they slip away. Does that mean I’ve lost? No, just means they knew what would of happened if they stayed. This includes d/p thief, they’re not exactly invulnerable when a pvt warrior can kill them.
-knocking/pulling/fear out of SR is for the obvious reason, to counter it. ~13 seconds of stealth is a lot, so people can atleast counter it. Want some advice? Save atleast 1 dodge when you are about to pop SR. Sit on one end of the circle and watch for cc skills that may kick you out. If you can’t prepare for the simplest of tactics then pick another “useless” utility (all professions have some useless utility).

The last patch certainly helped thief, even if it did nerf some valid skills before (sword #3, spear, sb #2) If you want bad try playing a warrior right now. A large portion of our traits don’t even work.

Is it just me or has server lag been a problem for people for awhile? I have no troubles connecting to the internet, play other games np, and from using http://www.speedtest.net/ (don’t know if its 100% accurate but it sure does feel like its correct) I can say my ping and dl/ul speeds are fine. However randomly I just crash left and right, I will get HUGe lag spikes and be unable to take action for a solid minute + (which is bad in a pvp enviroment). Really frustrating to deal with. I looked through task manager and keep the basic processes running along with gw2 so it’s not cpu usage (~50% with gw2/ts/mouse program running).

Like I said I play other games np, its this game that just craps out over and over. Also a couple of my guildies have this crashing issue and its the worst when it happens minutes into reset night (main guild leader d/c as we were gathering inside). Is this an issue with the servers or is there something I’m missing?

-Mug (III in Deadly Arts)
-Thrill of the crime (V in Trickery)
-Bountiful theft (VII in trickery)
-Sleight of hand (XII in trickery)

When I used steal against a ranger who popped Rampage as one, I only stole 1 boon. I tested it a couple more times and it continuously stole only 1 boon when the skill description states it is supposed to take 2. I hope the skill description is whats supposed to be and the trait is just bugged to only stealing 1 boon.

I also tested this against the same ranger who had traits to grant fury and swiftness on weapon swap. Again, it would only steal 1 boon at max.

Many people have posted a suggestion on what they feel a new profession could be. However many professions fill most concepts up already so there isn’t much to build from.

Personally, I’d welcome a new profession simply because there are tons of games out there that were successful with more than 8 classes. I won’t name the games, but I will say that they could show how number of classes isn’t the issue, it’s their unique flavor that makes them memorable. Although difficult, a new profession is certainly doable in this game imo. (actually made a profession post myself. Reworking it still but it falls under the lines of a soldier who mimic’s enemy mobs’ abilities.)

(~1400 hours played, not 1 precursor drop.)

What activities do you do op?

I’ve gotten exotic drops from:
-World events
-Dungeons, primarily fotm
-WvW
-and living world (halloween chests).

Bad luck I guess :/

I opened over 4000 dragon coffers and got 1 ticket so far..

Survey: 2 weeks or 1 month?

Dragon bash has been opened for much longer than 2 weeks. Updates every 2 weeks doesn’t mean content lasting 2 weeks.

Plus this means quicker balancing to professions which is something that was happeneing fairly slow in the past. The sooner ranger becomes useful in dungeons and warrior in spvp the better.

Achievements treadmill

Before the announcment, anyone with high achievment points meant nothing. Sure they completed most of the game, but what was their reward? A number?

Now we finally get a reward, better yet, it’s not a stat bonus that’ll make us stronger. Its a bonus to currency gain, or a cosmetic (skin, title). None of these make you statistically stronger, its just a bonus. I’ve got open arms for this new patch, I’m at 6.5k achievment points and finally can get rewarded. This is a HUGE update to the reward system. You get rewarded for doing different things, and I love it. I imagine those with even more achievment points do to.

Precourser for Achievement Points

NinjaEd.3946

i made a post about this earlier and got pretty much pounded into the ground about it…so prepare for all the negative comments. From what i said earlier, the devs mentioned a scavenger hunt and a way for players to see their progress towards a precursor. Having an entire very large achievement tree dedicated to a precursor fits the bill on both of those requirements. Also as I said earlier rewards from achievements are usually account bound so if the scavenger hunt was hard enough it would help keep precursors in the tp at a relatively high price. It would all come down to making the requirements hard enough and/or time consuming enough to keeping the ones on the tp a better deal.

Rather than risk precursor farms, make them account bound on aquire. Leave the tp for the lucky souls who picked it up, but give those who don’t feel like 600g is a good use of money a reasonable alternative. Perhaps a different set of achievments per precursor so all of them can be made on the account. Also it would make the “quest” for a precursor different each time which is what I loved about the personal story. So many different paths and objectives I could actually tell a story to guildies rather than remind them that they just did the same thing.

almost 7k ap’s, a guy on my “friend’s” list has 9k. Wonder what (s)he does O.o

I stopped at," the most op class, thief"

Not at all op. Try playing one and doing what you see as “op”. Also engineer can have perma vigor (if it’s not stolen) ranger has multiple evade skills and a passive 50% regen to endurance from a minor trait, ele can burst heal, necro has 2 health pools, guard can full heal, mesmer goes invulnerable. Not complaining, just sayin almost everyone has their ways to sustain, warrior has shout heals which to an extent are effective but they don’t match up as well.

Again, try playing a thief in all 3 aspects of the game (pve, wvw, pvp) and see where they stack up against others. You’d suprise yourself.

Low boon access
lowest health pool tier
hs spam is as predictable as hundred blades
we die easy if you know how our skills behave :/

Sotg tuesday July 2nd from my understanding. They do these to give a good chunk of info. They arn’t often but they help. MY issue however isn’t so much about content being released as much as teasing us with rng and nerfing rewards through dungeons.

Yeah torment isn’t all that threatening. Maybe it hurts more from necro as they can stack it a lot but in wvw on my pvt warrior it’s quite useless. Burn still does way more dps than torment and it doesn’t even have to stay on for too long. In all honesty, standing still is just a bad idea for anyone. You’re better off taking the extra degen than sitting still and not dodging any attacks.

Well a direct response from anet is rare for the obvious reason. There are a TON of people asking for a response. No company has the time or resources to answer every forum post individually.

F&F was good because by doing the dungeon, it led to a skin. You may not of liked the skin but you knew you were getting it. In Dragon bash, it’s the same although many of the achievements are a chore rather than an activity. Sky pirates achievements don’t promote healthy team play and reward you with a mini which, some may like but as the ONLY reward isn’t fair.

I’m positive it takes time to make these dungeons and all that effort leading to 1 mini is just a waste of time tbh. The thing that made me fall in joy with Guild wars title is how skins is the reward. I don’t have to grind for weeks/months to get some small stat bonus so people can accept me as “good”, I’m good because of my experience so skin rewards are awesome. Getting these skins just seem poorly done however, I shouldn’t have to focus on buying (I farmed over 500, unless you primarily farm chests you arn’t going to get much, plus the chests are cheap to purchase) an item that has a small chance of having what I want. I shouldn’t have to rely only on rng for something rewarding, period.

So we still don't have a duel system.

NinjaEd.3946

When custom arenas go public, you can duel whenever you want (most players opened their lobby to the public anyways and have them as “dueling” centers).

Dueling is better done in a controlled enviroment like pvp than out in the open with drastic pve stats (food, boosts, wvw buffs, etc). There are just too many outrageous stats people can get in pve that are limited in spvp. You’re on the same exact playing field in spvp in terms of gear. I don’t see how any disadvantage would be welcomed :/

Couple topics I find to be avoided by these past month patch notes. Talked to death by the forums and map chat, some things that just don’t have their place in this game. Many things have been done right in this game imo, MANY things. But a few of these aspects are just plain sloppy. Either as a lazy/cheap method to “solve” a problem or simply other methods present much more problems.

Dungeons

I can talk on and on about how sad most dungeons are. Just dps, swing here, run here to get ooc, rinse repeat, the list goes on. I’d rather just suggest a change to the rewards.

Time should be parrallel to reward. The longer a dungeon is, the more rewarding it should be. However putting this in plain terms seems silly because not everyone wants to run arah exp for “the best potential loot”. So to be more specific, a dungeon check list. Every event, and every moment should have it’s own checklist (many do already). Also there should be optional objectives OUT OF THE WAY that players can choose to do. The end reward chest would be based off this checklist whether it be bonus coin (past 26 silver) bonus karma, exp, tokens, possible daily drop (bl key, merchant express, trans crystal, etc) for doing the full list. This would not only add the exploration element most dungeons are missing, it would make farming less of a cycle and DR more reasonable. Atm DR sets in after just 1 run, so why not make quality over quantity? 1 run should suffice and last some time. Just sayin…

RNG

All games have it, some more than others. In gw2, I feel like this is over used. Not only does it leave a bad taste in new player’s mouths, it upsets the older players who play consistently and gain nothing. For the most part rng is skin related so there isn’t some stat bonus or anything, so why is rng the only path involved? Between events like wintersday, secrets of southsun, and dragon bash I can’t decide which I hate more (rng, love the events). I opened over 3500 chests for dragon bash and recieved 1 ticket. Other people have opened about 500 or so and received multiple. If rng is the only solution to a problem in an upcoming event, post pone the event. Take the time and release it “When it’s ready” so people can safely tell themselves that there will be some reward this time. Precursors are also entirly rng based. Many people I talked to simply refuse to make a legendary because they gave up on the precursor. Many suggestions have been made in the forums about precursor aquisition and some have been reasonably fair. RNG is just rude…

To wrap it all up, I wish content was released when it was ready, as promised. I’d rather wait for really good content (F&F) than be dished out updates that just make me pull my hair out trying to get a skin (southsun, dragon bash, w/e is next ><). I continue to play for wvw and to get my fractal hammer (1 day) but overall I’ve lost interest in pve. I don’t feel rewarded at all for playing (100% map, Dungeon master, 6k+ achievement points, partook in all living story content so far.) I have most skins I wanted but many are out of grasp due to rng :/

Ranger regeneration needs to be toned down

OP, poison is your friend here.

IF this is about spvp ranger regen, well get used to it. Spvp is the one place in the ENTIRE GAME where ranger is possibly top dog. The rest of the game people just don’t like em (maybe not the right way to put it, but people generally prefer other professions over ranger due to pet mechanics)

Ele can burst heal, guardian can fully heal, necro has 2 life pools, there are other professions who can sustain really well.

Shortbow range was 1200, toned back to 900. Reason? Probably makes more sense to have a “short” bow at short ranges and leaving the "long bow to do the sniping. Plus ranger sb skills are better at dueling tbh (evade, daze, up close can stack long poison, etc).

Could be worse, you could be a thief with 900 range max… no traits or anything to even bump you to 1000..
