I don’t understand why ArenaNet decided to shoot themselves in the foot with the elite specs. By far the biggest issue with the elite specs is not how powerful they currently are but how much of a nightmare they will forever be to balance.

Game developers everywhere, take heed and do not fall into the hole.

Chronomancer: Rewinding time sounds pretty awesome, you can do anything you want twice. While there is nothing really wrong with it’s design, the issue comes in doing everything twice. Because of Continuum Split, the balance team must always consider the mesmer being able to do all of it’s abilities twice. So that means the base for mesmer must be gutted in order to confiscate for the fact of it can be used twice. Shatterspiking is the core damage for mesmer outside of phantasms. There is the big balance hole, whatever extra is added to mesmers, The balance team must ask themselves, “Hey, what happens if they use this twice in a row?” The biggest issue of why this will forever plague chronomancers is simply they can still shatterspike. If the balance team changes the way F1-F4 works for Mesmer means they can more easily adjust this classes defensive and offensive capabilities.

Heralds: Broken OP Viper Revenants aside, Heralds actually provides the most problems when it comes to balancing Revenants for two reasons. ArenaNet must always consider the Revenant to have a perma fury, swiftness, regeneration and 15+ stacks of might AND must always consider Revenants having 50% boon increase. That is insane! That means everything the Revenant has must take into consideration to have a free boost to damage and support. So the base of the Revenant must be gutted or else it will simply be to strong. Revenants must also be dry of boons or else they will simply get out control because of their upkeep passive that grants 50% longer boon duration.

Even ArenaNet is fully aware of this, you want to know a fun fact? Lets compare a full berserker Warrior with a full berserker Revenant, not a single point put into condition damage and both with mainhand swords. A level 1 burst Warrior’s Flurry does more POWER damage than the Revenants Unrelenting Assault. A condition attack, at it’s lowest point, does more power damage than the Revenants power attack!! See what a big hole you dug yourself ArenaNet? To make something balanced you had to gut it massively. Heralds needs to be looked at again and redesigned to be healthier.

Reapers: Chill simply cannot work for balance. It amazes me when ArenaNet announced Reapers, they had no clue how deadly chill is. Oh, chill really does nothing to damaging classes but chill absolutely destroys any tanky class. Any build that relies on quick recovery is doomed by the reaper, not matter what class, chill hurts all that is tanks because of the slowed skill recharge means skill recovery is also slowed. So obviously, they cannot just give reapers perma chill so they made sure to limit how much they can output, making so the chill attacks are easily seen and dodgeable on the greatsword and reaper form.

Except no one uses the greatsword, everyone always goes staff and dagger just because they gutted the chill from the greatsword. Players found ways around the reapers limited chill with the aid of the natural necromancer. So in order to balance the reaper, they must gut the necromancer. As a class that can destroy tanks with ease yet still be able to survive very well cannot be healthy. What a nasty balance hole, Reapers are designed entirely around chill but making the condition healthy for PvP is simply impossible.

The same issue is with necromancers healing power, they must gut the necromancers ability to recover because of Death Shroud. They had a big hole with necromancers from the start and now they just made it deeper.

Sorry about the lengthy post, but ironically that’s about it. All the other classes, all the ones that are overpowered with too much healing, damage, CC or support is not because of a design hole but rather a balance issue, number tweaking.

I have no problems with a tanky mesmer. But like the invisible thieves, got to make sure they can’t cap while being immune to damage.

Let me guess, the issue had to do with the Skritt pathing messed with the invisibility?

Anyways, what about stomp bug? Signet of Vampirism able to hit people 2,500 range and through walls? Can we change Revs’ Banish Enchantment into a reflectable projectile and remove the Chill from Unyielding Anguish? Can we nerf bunker chronos like moving F5 to F4? Can we get an increased recharge for druid stuns and tempests heals? Increase recharges for Scrapper and Reapers as well?

Bah, asking to much. Let me just chill 5 minutes at mid point with nothing to do.

I couldn’t do anything, the bunker, couldn’t do anything so we just sat around twittling thumbs.

It’s bad enough that it’s full pugs vs. a premade but more and more PvP matches is just minutes of nothing

They need to learn to communicate to show they have acknowledged the problems that sPvP has. It doesn’t take long for them to do a short write-up so there is no excuse that there is no time for it.

Blizzard have a “Community Feedback Update” every week for Starcraft 2.

Ironically League of Legends doesn’t listen to their community. I remember the juggernaut update everyone was saying, “This is crazy overpowered” in the public testing.

And yet they still released it. You had Darius going around 1v5ing people, Garen going 0/5 yet still runs head first into an enemy team and destroys them and my favorite was Skarner getting a hotfix. A champion with a 75% win ratio, that’s like having an extra person on your team.

Still though, at least they said it was a problem and nerfed it in a month.

Are premades carrying an Amber or Emerald player.

This wouldn’t be a problem except my team are all pugs, because the other teams are purposely lowering their ranking and MMR by teaming up the system are giving them matches in there favor.

Guild Wars 2 has effectively killed any Esport potential it had. This meta is just gross and boring to play and watch.

All of it could have been avoided if ArenaNet just listened.

We want balance, we want bug fixes and we want fair match ups. The only things leagues done was highlight the massive issues.

How? By resetting everyone’s MMR?

We’d still have the same situation we have right now. Pro League teams would still be farming ruby and diamond solo-queue players. This is just something that won’t be resolved until more people progress up the ranks.

True that, but e-sport is just a dream of every MMo on certain step of development, which has never become reality. For GW2 it’s even worse, PvP scene and it’s population was always small, new faces are mostly PvEr’s for their reward, Guild teams for Guild Hall upgrades, WvWvWers, who are unsatisfied by new maps.

All of them are casuals, what going to happen when rewards are done and people move on?

I guess Anet doesn’t care.

ArenaNet cares, they just don’t have their priorities straight and they are scared to talk to anyone. It’s almost like a bunch of highschoolers tackling a big project with no teacher, nothing gets done and whatever does get done turns out to be a big mess.

Removing the ability to team queue will only be a hotfix to some of the outstanding problems.

People do like playing with their friends in PvP but splitting the leagues will take time to make.

I know what you are saying Sam but you are looking at it all wrong.

  • Conquest is a team sport, but it doesn’t mean sports are only designed for organized teams. Just look at League of Legends.
  • While the League system is designed for top GUILD teams to compete in the ESL. What does that mean for SoloQ players? Hell, I’m almost Diamond and I’ve been SoloQing my way through a good part of Ruby. What happens when top players get to Legendary 1 all by themselves? They aren’t given a team either.

The idea is you make your team from the open players in the leagues, then compete in the ESL. Having a League will help teams figure out and test players who are in legendary or high diamond. Once again, League of Legends works the same way, can’t join most teams unless you Diamond 1+. If you have a team, great! If you don’t, well, getting a very high rank will drastically increase your chances for a good team.

How upset would you guys be?

After all, a lot of problems contribute to people creating teams. Whether to abuse the system or not, having a team of friends gives a decent advantage. But then again, the only time you will be able to play with your friends is unranked or hotjoin. It’s a solo fight to the top and you might fight your friends along the way.


Before you say, “JUST ADD A SPLIT IT’S THAT EASY” well not really. How do you split it? Should there be a SoloQ and TeamQ League? Or should the split share the same league latter? What about the MMR? Should SoloQ or TeamQ have the same MMR? What happens when a player goes to Legendary in TeamQ but has not once played a single SoloQ game, should they be treated like legendary? There is really no perfect system without making an entirely new league, which means even more grinding.

In other words, if you are in Diamond with an Amber player, the game is going to put you against other Diamonds regardless of who you are queuing with. If you wanna play with your bad friends, play unranked or hotjoin. Ranked should not be the place to carry people from Amber.

Dunno if everyone wants to have the ranked play be as toxic as League of Legends :-/
Please point out some flaws in my suggestions besides possible difficulty to implement?
I do believe mine lead to a more friendly community with the permission to help your low ranked players advance just with no reward to the Diamond ranked player.

Because there is unranked and hotjoin. If you want to play with your inexperienced friends yet don’t get them completely stomped on all game, do unranked or hotjoin. If you want your friend to climb the latter they will have to do it themselves.

A more friendly community starts with balance, bug fixes, a split between SoloQ and TeamQ ranked.

There are also no reasons anyone to run with a thief to help kill someone. Good thieves choose when their fight ends, whether it is in their favor or not, it’s still the thiefs’ choice.

Having a gold sink in PvP is pointless but right now it is harmless. Most of the runes, sigils, amulets and even the champions aren’t as good as the free ones.

  • Don’t contest a point the opposing team owns. This is a bunker meta, fight if it is yours or fight if it’s uncapped.
  • Back off when you are low on health, go back to the point and hug your bunker when you are about to die.
  • Count how many icons you see, if you see 5 on the map and no one is at far plus you are a viper rev, sneak to decap far. There is a good chance by the time you returned you wouldn’t have missed anything.

Why do Heralds take Shiro?

An instant stunbreak that evades and regains stamina.
A gap closer that also gives 5 seconds to pierce blocks.
An instant quickness and superspeed to escape, quick finish or quick rez
An elite that recharges fast, has bigger, harder to see stun that also better to trigger the burning elite trait.

The only downside is the healing.

Viper Rev eats all the boons while applying 12 stacks of confusion, torment, chill, burning and poison.

So yeah, Scrappers are very strong but Viper Revs can just dance circles around everything they got.

Coding wise; it’s easier to fix something not happening, it’s a nightmare incarnate to fix something that is always happening.

Stronghold is still gone, PvP is a unfun balance mess, it is better to abuse the system and bugs galore. I hope ArenaNet does the right thing and take all the blame.

Every time I read a Countless thread, I just imagine a Ferrari at a stop light. And all these kids pull up in their turbo swapped Honda Civics like we going to beat you. And then Countless just go half throttle and put bus lengths on them.

The knowledge barrier be like that.

You clearly haven’t been in many countless threads then. He’s running roughly 50/50 on suggestions. Half the time it’s sensible stuff, and the other half of the time it’s so far off the deep end you’d swear it was two different people posting. This thread is an example of the latter.

I have known Countless for 3 years now and I have had many mesmer state discussions with him. I have seen first hand his knowledge and ability. And I know he knows what is very strong in the builds. He had the bunker mesmer build thought up back in HoT bw2 I believe, which ever event had the mesmer spec.

Regardless of whether or not it comes across in the thread, he knows some stuffs.

I remember people saying how weak and worthless Tempests are. I was one of the first eles to figure out the sheer cheese that is bunker Tempests.

But we need to look at this problem objectively, should Mesmers be a class with a design to bunker? Thieves and mesmers are originally the assassin classes. This is important and can pin-point what to nerf.

After all, if you hurt the ability for mesmers to bunk you also hurt their ability to survive. Gotta be careful on what to touch.

It’s okay, an LB Druid knocked me into the insides of the wall last night with the extra dimensional point blank shot. Good thing they weren’t good enough to capitalize on the brief 4v5 they created when I had to relog.

One time on my thief I was knocked under the ground into the water in Foefire, but it turned out to be a good thing. I was able to shoot people with my spear gun and they couldn’t touch me.

But the immobilize bug has been around since they buffed immobilize. Two mistakes in one! Oh ArenaNet…

I love how people are considering queuing as a team “exploiting” if you’re better than them.

It really is cheating the system and against code of conduct.

But the good thing about rules is you don’t have to follow them
That is why they are… rules?
