They’d have to make pretty big sweeping changes to make Necromancer worth running in PvE. We haven’t seen the balance preview for anyone else, but Necromancer is unlikely to get enough to be good in PvE, we’re just flat out missing too many mechanics and too much damage.
A berserker necromancer can actually dish out quite decent damage; it’s the lack of cleave and good group support we’re lacking. Give us a sword or something else that can cleave + give us traits along the lines of +150 Ferocity for each group member and we’d already be a bit better suited for PvE.
Nothing has been said yet, we can only wait. To be honest though, I don’t have any hope for the Necro to become really viable in PvE. Sadly.
It’s either. The Residue originally gets awarded upon completion of the story through the achievement. You can only get that once.
If you finish Foefire Cleansing and then talk to Rox after receiving your rewards (or when you should, depending on if it’s a replay) she’ll give you Residue. I tried to throw it away and talked to her again without leaving the instance and she gave me another one; so you can either replay the instance for as often as you need Residue or – if that works – get as much Residue as you want in one run through talking to Rox.
It took a bit longer than I wanted with my necro but I didn’t even notice the menders until I noticed the statues health going up as I was to busy trying not to get knocked around. My only complaint is that I REALLY hate CC and they seemed to have thrown in an awful lot of extra CC lately. I don’t know why but CC just makes me rage.
Could be they’re trying to find ways to cripple the Zerker builders. :p
This has nothing to do with crippling zerkers as it’s actually easier with zerker.
Necro sadly has kittenty access to stability if you don’t want to go 6 points into Soul Reaping for Foot in the Grave.
Right now, I’m playing on my Guardian. My epic skill is form of Grenth, and have been using it. Also spiritual sword and two signets that I can’t remember at the moment. One grants ageis the other is flame and a hold.
I’ve got in on staff, so I have the barrier to bottle neck. For some reason the fear wards don’t spawn a lot for me. I noticed one twice in the entire fight I tried this morning. The worst though are those spheres. The invulnerability, and the homing sense. Plus they do have this annoying tendency to spawn right on top of me. get rid of that and I can deal with the menders.
Try Greatsword and Sword/Focus or Hammer. You’ll get blinds, block, a pull and in case of the Hammer, you can even knock them back for quite a bit and have a line; needless to say you do more damage than with your staff which immensely helps.
As for the spheres, this didn’t happen to me but I heard it from quite a few people, so it’s annoying I guess. I usually simply stand on the coffin and hit it as much as I can while looking around me to see if a spectral flame is coming up or a mender coming somewhat close.
What madness is this? Such ignorance! Unforgivable I say! Unforgivable!
BURN HIM!
I bring the torches!
From how it sounds like you rather want it to be thrown at you, huh?
Eh? No.
I’m merely disputing your assertion that they are cheap and easy to harvest by pointing out that, from where I sit, they are neither. I am neither willing to shell out a major part of my wealth for them, nor am I willing to mindlessly grind wood nodes because I play GW2 to have fun, and grinding is not fun for me at all.
What I am, is perfectly willing to take my time to acquire those 48 Firefox Clusters, and however many more are needed for the upgrades to the backpiece, either by continuing to harvest wood at my convenience or by waiting until the price drops to the point where I find them affordable (which shouldn’t take all that long unless ArenaNet provides other sinks for them apart from a single backpiece), or a combination of those two.
I apologize then. However my point with the 6 nodes at Malchor’s Leap still stands. It takes basically no time, so it’s worth a shot.
this will always be my favorite
and the sequel
Proof that Lupi has hacks. #BetterBanLupi
Hehh, this guy is in every thread and such an incompetent kitten.
Just looked at the new replies after I stopped bothering with that guy… Holy kittening kitten that guy. “QQ disrespectful QQ troll QQ I don’t need to back up my claims QQ he called me a liar”…
You obviously have somewhat different ideas about “cheap” and “frequent” than I do. At prices of more than a gold each and reported drop rates varying between 1/50 and 1/35, I find Firefox Clusters neither cheap to buy nor easy to harvest. Since my hole wealth amounts to about 160 Gold, spending 48 for a new backpiece somehow doesn’t appeal. Neither does farming between 1700 and 2400 wood nodes, especially since I rather dislike Orr and tend to avoid the place whenever possible, thus limiting the number of places I could grind for wood, were I inclined to do so.
Foxfire clusters are the only thing that really take up money. There is a spot in Malchor’s Leap (which is well known) where you can harvest 6 (7?) T5-Trees at one spot with every character you have. Best thing is, you don’t even encounter many enemies on your way.
You don’t need to get the backpack ASAP as the content is permanent. I don’t see where the problem is. It takes two or three minutes per character each day to farm those 6 or 7 nodes, you’re in no hurry to do it so you’re off fine.
From how it sounds like you rather want it to be thrown at you, huh?
thanks for reply. but after looking at what is required to craft the backpack, I don’t have 95% of the stuff for steps 2-13 and never will so it doesn’t matter. no reason to pursue this.
Almost all of the items are either cheaply bought on TP or are (somewhat) frequent drops/can be harvested easily.
Just smack things. I don’t see the problem, nothing does anything dangerous.
Maybe if you’re in tanky armor the menders don’t die fast enough? What happens if they reach him, they just heal him?
He gets healed (however if he was below 50%/25% prior to healing he doesn’t get the invuln buff again) and a buff which lets him take less damage for a few minutes which stacks. If he gets three stacks he uses the attack you have to avoid for the achievement, which doesn’t hit that hard at all.
It isn’t missing. After finishing Plan of Attack and receiving your reward (or not, depending on if it’s your first time through) speak with Rox, she’ll give you the Residue. I threw it away after getting it from her and actually got a second one; so I’m not sure if you could basically get an infinite amount of Residue with one character. However she’ll happily give you another one in case you throw it away/don’t have one in your inventory.
Not sure if this was already mentioned, but you can’t summon phantasms (or any minions for that matter) when fighting the Jotun Stargazer at the end of Arah p1 and the flame ring is active. This also applies to the part of Twilight Arbor path forward when fighting the Archers inside the bubbles, where you can’t summon any minions at all.
You maybe want to report that in the bug forum. Although I believe it doesn’t matter if you post it here or there anyway…
As for the bug… well, another reason not to let pugs carry the hammer.
Do the story mode dungeons first. They are not so difficult and experience isn’t required. You could join a guild and go into dungeons with your guild to start with. Fractals are more difficult than dungeons but low level fractals (1-10) are not run by the elites and you shouldn’t get booted for being inexperienced.
Imo, some storymodes are more difficult than exploration paths. Twilight Arbor, Sorrow’s Embrace and Honor of the Waves namely. They can cause far more trouble for inexperienced players than the usually run exploration paths of the dungeons.
Keep in mind GW2 is an action-rpg and not an FPS with resource management. However, GW1 missions do have similarities to a classic-FPS in that they start you in the middle of the action, and a player must slowly work their way through a very dangerous maze.
Yes of course, but GW2 doesn’t need resource management. No game needs resource management to give us multiple ways to approch our given tasks; especially since almost all of the quests take place in open world areas. For the quest where you kill the Mouth of Zhaitan for example, instead of letting you choose to start a direct attack or an ambush, they could’ve just given you the quest, let you start at one point and tell you “go, kill the Mouth”. So you can either fight your way straight to the Mouth or explore a bit – If you explore the shore, you suddenly stumble across those four couriers which you can kill in order to weaken the Mouth for the boss fight; you were rewarded for exploring.
As for GW1, that’s part of the reason I loved many of the missions. You have multiple paths, each contain different enemies and vary in difficulty and you have to see how to handle it, what to avoid, which groups you can handle best etc. and you were actually punished for huge mistakes by having to restart the whole thing.
To be fair, GW2 has a lot of potential for great instance design. The ability to swap skills on the fly, cut away a lot of the setup time from GW1, and it really opened up potential for a more steady pace of action. GW2 has so much potential with its mechanics, but it never attempts to pressure the player. Everything is so… scripted -.-
Exactly what I think. This is even more heavily reinforced due to the fact that you’re able to change traits on the go now and every class has access to basic survival skills/boons, so they don’t even have to look if every class can manage an encounter, as long as there no undodgeables or something similarly annoying.
Some of the new Story content is Open World. I’m not sure how far and wide Spectral Flames ‘mobs’ roam.
I would be surprised if they do roam, because they are only encountered during the instance. However it may be possible that due to what happens in that instance, spectral flames now randomly roam around Ascalon – I heavily doubt that though as those things hit like Trucks if you don’t watch out.
True, I hadn’t done the Asuran storyline quests so I never interacted with Oola.
I’m not even sure if that was a story quest as there is an event where you access Oola’s lab. It’s at her skill point and you need a special item which randomly drops in Metrica for it.
So, I just looked over the thread but the amount of QQ because that boss is apparently too hard is ridiculous.
So, where are your problems OP?
Okay, you’re playing Mesmer. Use Duelists, put them out of most AoE’s and they’ll survive longer. There is even a safespot for your phantasms, but that already feels a bit like cheating. Berserkers could also deal quite a bit damage, seeing that the statue is a solid building and lets the berserkers hit multiple times.
You have problems with being knocked down/around? Mesmer has a stability mantra, use it. If 2 charges per channeling aren’t enough, use harmonious mantras.
Menders coming to close? Greatsword Skill 5 and Temporal Curtain are your friends.
It really isn’t that hard if you look at your whole friggin kitten nal of skills, look what may be useful and change your utilities instead of hoping you can just spam your skills.
I want more bosses like this, maybe even harder ones (optional though, maybe tied to achievements) but I fear we won’t get them.
5/10, really don’t like all the radiant pieces and the mask, could look so much better with other pieces imo.
Also, finally came around to rework my second necromancer which was a complete mess beforehand (both stat- and looks-wise)
http://gw2dungeons.net/ is a great website for learning about the encounters.
There is also a dungeon-teacher guild here: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/dungeons/Dungeon-Mentors-Noob/first – You can easily apply as student, just state if you’re on NA or EU and your timezone.
Alternatively, you can always open a lfg and say you’re a firsttimer or join a group and ask if if they’re okay with taking you with them, while stating that you’re a firsttimer of course.
What’s so hard about it? Kill the menders and dps the statue when RYTLOCK TELLS YOU…
I don’t recall him ever telling me when to.
“Kill the Mender before he reaches the statue!”
“kitten, we need to charge Sohotin! We need to kill some ghosts to charge it up!”
If you play without sound and (NPC) chat deactivated it’s your fault, but it is there – I’ve seen it with all my characters I played through the LS.
This is where your problem is. Condi Necros are great in SPvP and WvW, but not so much against bosses.
Actually, Condi is AMAZING against this boss, since he is immune to crits and takes full duration of all conditions.
The problem is OP not wanting to learn the fight. Necros are masters of soft-cc and should be able to breeze this fight very easily by crippling menders while condis melt the statue.
Has OP tried using Fear on the menders?
Ah, I had no idea that this was a Learn to Play issue. I assumed the statue was like the Shatterer or other World Boss, where condi damage is laughable. It’s good to know that condi is still viable in PvE.
Condis are viable in solo play, not in group play.
They want the necro to have those slow casting times, which is a shame, really.
Don’t worry about it, the way I see it, it’s permanent free stuff.
At least you didn’t say anything about not paying a subscription. I h8 when people say that. I’ve bought enough gems to pay for more than one expansion of new content and happy to support. To Be Clear: I’m not complaining or feel I’m entitled to content, I’m just happy he “didn’t go there”
Back on topic:
I just went through the LS2 E3 with another toon (first one completed) and yes still buggin with Svanir part.
Guest, it’s working on most servers/maps. Still not completely fixed though, that’s true.
Necro vs Warrior DPS
A lot of people think necros are crap but they’re really not so bad…
I die a little inside everytime someone links that video.
Not a surprise. Someone reported it. I wonder who. LOL
Sorry! Just kidding.
I still think it’s more suited to the dungeon sub.
Dat last line.
Beautifully written!
While we’re at it, something related to your discussion up there (which was very enjoyable to read and made me remember what TotalBiscuit said about the regression of FPS and tbh, I can feel the same thing in GW2 at times… kind of scary.)

…is literally the worst thing you have ever put in the Living Story, season 1 included, besides Liadri. It literally took me 25 minutes to kill it, and I did not die once, and I always killed all the menders…if I knew it was like that I would’ve found a group of people to do it with.
Next time, put a warning label on it ‘’this content should be attended with a group of people’’ or something like that
not.fun.at.all. way.too.long
You are way.too.bad.
Get out of your Clerics/Nomads comfort zone and try to learn the encounter (not that there’s much to learn). You barely had to dodge at all, you were able to simply kite the spectral flames which real name I forgot und the ascalonian menders were slow as hell, not to mention the obvious tells and the nice, orange-red aoe-indicator which basically screams “press V now!”
Seeing that you have so much problems with such an encounter, may I ask you which class you play with what kind of build? We might be able to give you useful tips so that you can improve your gameplay.
If you get her down to 50% you keep that buff as long as you’re near her. If you run too far away, you lose the buff. If you go back into range, you get it back. Apparently, said range is a bigger variant of the bubble Brie has around her and which you cannot enter normally.
If you deal enough damage to enemies on the way to the terminal, they will attack you and stand still; since you’re invincible, you can abuse that and just punch them into their faces until they’re dead. For Deadeyes and Technicians, you probably want stability.
Technicians have the tendency to start monster infighting with Risen, especially the grubs that come out of the Plague Abominations after they explode; try to make the most out of that fact.
I don’t even know to click at the video and I know which one it is and I totally agree.
No, it’s working as intended.
No, it’s not working as intended.
All items are properly rewarded when they should. No bug here.
Does it make sense that you can get every item multiple times except one? No, that doesn’t make it a bug though. It’s simply stupid.
You know you avoid that wolf completely if you scan the boxes first.
You can avoid him without scanning too, however you need to kill the wolf if you want one of the new achievements because he counts as trap.
If you play the “Rallying Call”-Quest as a Sylvari, you get more and different dialogue. In case the Pale Tree isn’t lying about everything, then it falls out of equation. I also wouldn’t see how it would work when looking at the personal story.
1. It is on a constant loop because player instantly trigger the event again so that they can progress with their LS without having to wait, which is good.
2. Taken out for now it seems because it caused the problems in Iron Marches
For the rest… yeah.
Neat find, I didn’t see that. Didn’t expect them to make her a ghost….now I’m kind wondering why they didn’t do that for our Order mentors, or any of the other notable characters who die. Oh well…
It’d have been awesome to see Forgal’s ghost still on Claw Island, fighting off the undead inside, until we retook it, at which point his soul would be at peace and pass into the Mists, or even sometimes have ghosts of the characters that died in your Personal Story “haunting” your Home Instances at night or something.
They probably didn’t do it because they ended up as Risen in an event in Bloodtide Coast.
Eh, no they didn’t. That event only happens with Seiran’s death, and Sylvari don’t become Risen. That was a mission to avenge her death. The Sovereign Eye claims that they’re Risen now as you fight him, but since we don’t actually fight a Risen Forgal/Tybalt (and as before, Seiran couldn’t get Risen’d), it was probably a lie.
Oh, never really did the event, only saw the description in the upper right corner. Must have mixed something up then. Thanks for clearing that up.
Why should this question be disrespectful? I think it’s rather interesting and I’d like to know too. From what I know there’s even a point in the axe AA-chain where you can dodge without interrupting (or resetting?) it, but I doubt you could really rely on that when fighting Lupi.
I don’t think people realise how much time and effort is involved in teaching
especially if it’s soloing an arah path. I get so many requests for those, some even offer to pay, but it’s very time consuming and often times can be very frustrating depending on how cooperative the person being taught is.
There are non-cooperative people when teaching? wat.
Yeah. There are people who just give attitude/won’t listen to reason. It sucks, but, we can only do so much.
Good thing I never had that happen to me. If someone wanted to get something teached from me, it’s either listen or gtfo; he’s the one who wants to learn. If he has valid points I’ll listen of course but if someone does his own thing anyway, why should he need me then?
So you prefer having bugs in your games?
Bugs can’t be avoided. However I do think that two game-breaking/progression halting bugs shouldn’t happen.
I don’t think non-humans can become ghosts. At least, they have a tougher time of it. Humans are constantly going ghosty.
That makes sense too. Come to think of it, a Sylvari ghost would be quite weird I guess.

…a ghost watching over Fort Salma? kitten . When you try to interact with her, she vanishes.
Probably has been posted already, but I didn’t see a thread when looking to the first pages quickly.
Finally, I hope they nerf Fiery Rush before the tournament so it’s a bit more interesting in terms of variety vs everyone going 3-4 eles like recent speed clear records do.
Ooooor using fiery rush without a target against a wall is simply not allowed.
Mesmer.
I feel like Necro is the most difficult class to solo since you lack in every department. Of course it is still possible, but I think you’re going to have an easier time as mesmer.
Good luck to all participants.
