@Okami: It’s just that everything else would be lower DPS than scepter autos, so there’s no point in swapping off the set. Just because there are options doesn’t mean said options are good.

the condi rotation with gs and soul reaping gave me 28.5.

Honestly, the GS should probably be dropped from that build. It will be dead weight when you can’t reliably do ice field finishers, not to mention how awkward it makes the entire rotation feel. In the pic I posted earlier I was using good old S/D + S/D in the new build. I just can’t picture condi GS working even remotely as well in raids with all the ethereal fields from chrono and fire fields from condi ranger etc.

i dont think so. you still have a pulsing blinding (=chilling=bleeding) field, chill on pull, dhuumfire, fear. its not just about ice fields. but i’d say if you pug fractals, sometimes its just better to use old rota. the gs rota is better for decent party and for a boss. if you fight trash mobs, you might get kicked out of shroud very fast.

ps. the rotation doesn’t feel awkward. its actually pretty awesome and tight!

I haven’t been playing much lately so I’m out of the loop anyway, am I reading this right that there’s a condi build utilizing GS now?

@Okami: On swap sigils trigger, albeit that only requires having scepter in one set and the other weapon in the 2nd set

Do you generally consider reworking skills when working on the balance patch or is this something you’d only do in a “last ditch effort”, when the skill just can’t be put in a good place?

We generally try to avoid reworking skills in a vacuum. If we feel a skill is slightly out of line, small tweaks to things like damage, recharge or cast time can usually be enough. We’re more likely to do skill reworks when doing major updates to a given skill category such as some of the changes to mesmer phantasms this time around, but for one-off skills we try to avoid it if we can since it can come across as random and affect players who like using the skill as is. That’s not to say we wouldn’t do it, but it would have to be a fairly extreme case.

Ah, that’s interesting to know. Seems like a very sensible choice to me, too. Thanks for your time!

What’s the general idea you’re following when balancing necro? Power and condi seperately, if possible.

This set of balance changes for necro was definitely better than the last few, however it feels like you’re highly afraid of tweaking numbers too high to the point where they would actually be broken. Do you generally consider reworking skills when working on the balance patch or is this something you’d only do in a “last ditch effort”, when the skill just can’t be put in a good place? Because this is something I’ve always been wondering with condi necro, their damage is on the lower side because their skills tend to be instant-hits, delivering their full effect in a single tick. Did you ever consider turning those skills into AoEs instead (Scepter 2, Dagger 5 come to mind for example, even Dagger 4) and why did you decide against it?

Ele gets rech buffs and one nerf and it’s qq dead class from people lol.

It’s still meta people…it’s still viable everywhere jeez.

That does not change the fact that pugs and even statics will pick up on the nerf fast and find reasons good or bad to not run eles in favor of engi/rangers. When 5/5 became meta in raids people stated that 4/4/2 and 7/2/1 was viable and things were fine. Skip forward a month later and everyone was using 5/5 anyway.

I have to agree with the people above that the nerf has not addressed the class/skill variety issues. In terms of potential dps, engi was buffed and eles were nerfed. Realize though, that ele dps was often much lower than the benchmarks created in realistic scenarios.

I for one would like to see the “Flavor of the Month” balance patches to stop.

You mean like how currently people keep utter trash eles (some of which even get out-dps’d by chronos) instead of expanding their horizon and taking DHs, thieves or completely different dps for an overall better result?
Blame the pugs for that, I assume dps meters would help that at least. Also, DPS in actual scenarios is always lower than in benchmarks, that hits every class.

Its easy to see here who doesn’t play the Ele class and has zero idea what they are talking about. LOL Oh well as I’ve heard it said “You cant do elite things with basic people.”

Maybe one day the devs will get a clue.

I mean you go around here, claiming ele is definitely dead due to two nerfs (I’m not even gonna deny they aren’t heavy handed) when you have yet to see DPS comparisons between classes. Staff DPS was easily ahead 7k+ on large targets, not to mention that this is 2nd highest dps, not even some “average dps”.
Stop crying, wait how it plays out and if turns out to be that bad and anet doesn’t do anything about it then come back.
In the meantime, if you want to see two classes that get treated badly overall try necro and rev, Ele is far from getting kitten treatment.

ANET has once again devalued Mesmer.

Revenant now has ALACRITY!

What then is the point of Chronomancer please?

I’m beside myself… this is almost beyond bearing.. Confusion, Moa and now Alacrity given away like candy.

No Mesmer may not have a unique skill or place in the game.

Chrono can still apply quickness and alacrity like there’s no tomorrow doing it better than any other class, still is the only class with portal access, can share distortion etc.

There’s tons of unique things about chrono and even those things that aren’t (anymore), if chrono was supposed to excel in that area it does so like a champ.

hm? mostly they buffed it. Arc lightning got up, lots of cooldowns went down. The overload air nerf was the only thing. And I can see why they did it. It was kind of overpowered.

Yeah but the by far top dps class in pve lost WHOLE SEVEN PERCENT OF DAMAGE on one of their more important skills, class is obviously dead now!!!!! Duh Not to mention that meteor shower was completely kittened on large hitboxes and it’s a surprise it even lasted that long without getting an on-hit-icd.

Guy’s obviously complaining for no reason.

Overall this balance patch seems pretty promising (although there’s parts I’m definitely unhappy with), has the option to shake the PvE meta a bit and open up more options for raid-comps again, though how far that’ll get used by the community has to be seen.

My post got eaten nice, so I’ll keep it tl;dr

It’s not enough
It’s a step in the right direction by them acknowledging there’s more issues than just lacking raw damage, instead trying to tweak cooldowns and aftercasts too.
I’ll always take GS buffs since I highly enjoy playing it.
Deathly Chill buff is pretty juicy actually.
I’m majorly kittened at engis getting pinpoint distribution reworked into a 150 condi party-buff when that should’ve been something for necros, but at the same time it’s at least engi who got it since they’ve been in a kinda tough place too in PvE.

Gonna need more tweaks, even for skills that are already okay to good to make them even better, death magic needs some love badly and there’s still a decent amount of traits that need to get looked up, possibly going through a full rework and/or having the goal of making the necro more of an actual buffer through debuffing. (Unique debuffs on mobs which help the party for example)

So technically it’s A – B – B – A and to explain it better than I did just now, the A from T05 would be moved to T15 and the B ranging from T15-20 would be flat out deleted

My pure valk necro brings equally as much to the table that a condi necro if you swap utilities as needed. Condi necro literally only brings damage.

Transfusion is better on a power necro because of shroud based builds, and anything else you just mentioned can be done on power necro as well without hurting the build at all.

I suggest you actually play a necro before talking about the class, because you clearly dont understand WHY people even play condi necro. It’s not the utility, its the damage. The utility for necro can be used on condi OR power. And arguably power has more utility due to GS nightfall and pull. They play it because its brain dead, while power necro requires a little more activity, because the build certainly will not carry you.

Transfusion is in blood magic, both power and condi can run blood magic, not the other way around.

As for epi, power necro generally has more AOE, which is even on terms with epi unless it’s being bounced. Power necro DPS pulls ahead once the mobs are below 50%, and even more so if again, epi is not being bounced. But for a single necro? No, it’s not more utility, it’s actually about even.

Hurts to see how wrong you are with basically everything.

They nerfed Dragonhunter though… what they did buff was base guardian virtues and staff skills. Let’s be real though, base guardian virtues are trash when compared to Dragonhunter and buffing them won’t really do much except maybe bring back a support guardian… and base guardians don’t even have the annoying traps… traps….. which now won’t even daze you now. Hallelujah.

I hope what this means is that they are looking at base specs so hopefully Deathshroud will receive buffs as well. Putting down a bet – if Deathshroud does get buffs next patch, I will give everyone on this forum 1000 gold.

They’re slowly nerfing most OP things, which imo is a good thing. The process took a long @$$ time (1 year lmfao).

I wouldn’t exactly call traps losing daze and gaining slow a “nerf”. it’s basically the same thing, except now i can’t ignore it with stability. honestly, I find it to be more annoying than the daze

Uh what of course it’s a nerf, a quite big one at that.
In PvE this means the breakbar-damage of traps is gone besides what they’d do anyway, in PvP this means you’re losing interrupts with short to no cast-times which were able to be used to interrupt vital enemy skills and shut them down. Meanwhile slow can be thrown back at the source or cleansed before its duration runs out and does not interrupt you, not to mention that the duration is rather low.

that’s a scam.

Keep in mind that this would most likely include all trinkets along with random asc weapon drops that aren’t in boxes too.

And well, RNG is just RNG, can’t do anything about it. even with 50% drop chance you could go half a year without any drops.

I didn`t really expect the damage loss to be that big and did not factor in cripple as an additional soft cc. In this light I understand why scepter/horn as a second set is more desirable than staff. Although I still like the utility staff has with poison field, chill and condi transfer. But granted, this does not make up for the severe damage loss.

In raids you dont really need the utility as wh 4,reaper shroud, and golem will provide more than your fair share of cc. Also people might have assumed you are a power necro, because lets face it, staff sucks for condi dmg.

Staff just sucks for damage in general PvE-wise

Scepter has enough poison application, you already have a poison field with CPC and you want to whirl in your ice field anyway, you got condi transfer and you got tons of chill sources. Staff adds absolutely nothing to your build you don’t already have in a way or two, except 300 more range, which is just… nah.

Usually boils down to whatever stupid (mistake) I made or my team ignoring pinged targets/attacking targets that make no sense to attack for various reasons.

Bumping this, I sent a ticket to the german CS (since I’m german and I don’t think I can even contact the english one without it getting filtered to german CS anyway?) and they responded just now, asking for more details which I just gave them (now awaiting their response again)

I’ll edit this post as soon as I hear more.

There is so much miss information from people who want to claim skill.

Going 50/50 Is not where you suppose to be (See Screen shot), the ones that are saying they can single handly carry a game are completly full of it. I’m a thief, i can keep one point caped and one point neutral. It does not matter most games, since your teammates are constantly charging home point and dieing 4on3.

Supreme you should just ignore Locuz, He’s just a troll trying to boost his ego.

Is this legit? Wow. I have no idea why you are in bronze for your skill level, I for one am in t3 silver lel.

If he thinks letting his team rush in 4v3 to their close is a good idea its no surprise he can’t climb. What he should’ve done is just +1 it, burst one or two down and then gtfo there because at that point, it would be impossible for your teammates to lose and they will move on after capping, even if they cap it together. With a thief’s mobility, he can be back to doing other things in no time.

IMO it should be win only and every division should have different amount of pip progress. Gold is where the current 10 is (since it’s the “average-division”), silver gives 7, bronze 5 per win. Top-Stats still give +1. This puts an emphasis on winning (and getting better) along with climbing. Everyone can still get rewards, however in order to get them you can’t just afk or play like kitten constantly.

The part after the one you mentioned shows you 1v1ing a guard on THEIR close while it is under THEIR control, wasting a lot of time, then cutting off at some point to see you in what looks like a 3v2 situation for you stomping them while they actually caught up by 30 or so points because you think it’s a good idea to constantly use emotes, write in say chat and drag fights on.
Haven’t watched the rest, but if this is anything to how you play in ranked? You probably deserve where you belong to be, not because you might be a bad player, but because you pull so much stupid kitten you lose your team games.

Necro is one of the easiest classes in the game. You have soo many HP bars, you might as well look into HP whole sale.

But I can’t complain totally about this season. I’d personally like to thank Anet for finally providing me with a proper challenge. Being forced to carry npc’s every ranked game has required me to increase my skill even more. It’s made me develop new builds with new strategies. I could easily role any meta build on any class and I guarantee you, I would never die. Meta is beneath me.

Oh yea and how can you point out that I’m playing in unranked then go on to complain about how I’m not capping? And don’t forget to look at how old the video was. This was back when everyone, even the pros, were playing unranked due to no season being active. But I don’t really expect someone so easily triggered by confidence to employ an elevated form of rational.

It’s funny because you feel like I attacked your skill level when I even worded it in a way that I can’t be sure if you play like this in ranked and/or that you might actually be a good player.

What’s even better is that I don’t even claim to be a good player when it comes to PvP; I’m really not. I understand what’s necessary to win and try my best, but I’m nowhere to being a top tier PvP-player.

The whole point here is that you are crying that you have an incredible hard time carrying players who are “npc-tier” while you also think you are the best player here and could 1v2 any combination of even top tier ESL players while winning those matchups, yet struggle to climb out of whatever division you are in. Meanwhile, a random guy on a build with less than maximum efficiency who plays mostly PvE manages to carry himself from silver 1 to what’s currently almost gold 3; and believe me, I have the same amount of “npc-level” players on my team as you do. How does your superiority complex explain that? You merely like to throw around terms that make you look more eloquent, but it’s all talk, nothing else. Get off your high horse, thank you.

Also, as a matter of fact, I would really like to see you 1v2ing Helseth and Rom for example, outplaying them with ease and winning.

Lastly, what cranos said. Those builds aren’t meta, they’re kitten.

Thing is, there is a maximum to what you can carry.

The “one pro gamer carry 4 baddies to victory against decent team” spiel is a myth. Never gonna happen. Hasnt ever happened, will never happen.

I was placed below my skill-level (thanks again “drunk norn thief that shall not be named”), and after placement matches I went on a 20-odd winning streak.
Then the weekend started. Matchquality got horrible. Teammates could have been apes and done a better job. But I carried, and carried hard. Did I win all matches? Hell no, but I held on to my rating through it all.

What Im trying to say… you cant carry to a win with all odds stacked against you. There are matches that are just unwinable, plain and simple.

Doesnt mean every match that you loose, is unwinable. But sometimes you can only give it your best shot, and its still a 300-500 loss. Last weekend there was about every 2nd match like that for me. Before friday, I didnt have a single match like that.
Now, weekend is over… the last 3 matches I played, we won. It was close matches. Fun matches. Challenging, but doable. Still some bad players on my team… (trying to kill two tempests on enemy capped point for the whole match, that kind of bad players), but also one or two good players. The enemy teams were pretty much the same, no huge discrepancies.

So yeah… sure, you can carry to victory – within reason.

Im guessing you rose past plat t1 before the weekend. Which makes you rather unqualified to talk about bronze to gold t1 matches during this weekend.

Fact is, matchquality this weekend was most horrid. Hence the increase of QQ threads.

p.s.: please stop overusing the word “tilt”

To be fair, weekends are known to be kitten when it comes to matchmaking because everyone and their mother is playing. Also, no one expects you to carry every game, sometimes it is just uncarryable if you placed that low. However, the majority of games won’t be that, as you noticed yourself. So if you truly are above the players in your division, you will get out, even if that means you have to make changes to your build, playstyle or even swap to another class.

They’re not bad, but you’re probably not easily gonna find spots because eles are generally better and especially pugs get really excited when they see eles to the point where they kittentalk every other potential dps even though most pug eles are actually trash and any other dps would be better.
Best choice would probably be joining a static which is cool with you playing thief.

I don’t know why Skyhammer can add to rank. this is the terrible map like Spirit Watch, Eternal Coliseum(thief mes game), Revenge of the Capricorn(DH Trap in mid). They waste their resources on NEW Terrible MAP again again and again. Why don’t use resources to make a New Game mode?

A new game mode would also need new maps, so there’s that.
Also, a new game mode has been made, it’s called stronghold and see how that turned out.

In DS you were/are unable to join instances that killed the mouth of mordremoth and are in the “reward-phase”. Why not implement the same for the bell choir? Once the main part is over and free play begins, no one can join anymore and people are free to move on to the next instance. Would be better than nothing at least.

Uhm no it doesn’t. By your logic it’s only wintrading which means you stay at the same spot.

So the only difference is…me? Great! Please teach me how to carry in the following situations:

1. You hold mid and close, 1 enemy goes to your close, 1v1s the guy deffing it and then 3 guys leave mid to deal with him and all 3 stand on the point waiting for capture. Meanwhile you’ve gotten kittened trying to hold mid, even though you survived for 30 seconds against 4 people, you died. How do I carry this?

If enemy team stays mid, go far, make them split, hold them there while your team has time to deal with them on mid, ideally giving them at least a +1 situation for a bit while the other guy is dead and at least one person going for far to get you.

2. Your team loses the first teamfight and then run to mid 1 by 1. How do I carry this?

Be mobile, cap sides.

3. Your teammates are unable to 2v1 the enemy team. How do I carry this?

+1 their fights, bomb enemy, move on.

4. The situation I already described, your teammates ignore all other points and rush into 4 enemies standing at your close one at a time. How do I carry this?

Force them to split, (de)cap other points by playing a mobile class. +1 when you see a fight where you can easily burst 1-2 down, move on.

Focus on capping or moving fights on points. Again, being mobile helps.

Since you can see the 3 DHs before the game starts, bring some sort of counter against them, help your team or try to make sure the three DHs don’t run together.

7. Your team has 3 power warriors. How do I carry this?

So what? Ask one or two to reroll, if they don’t, try to help out the best you can.

8. People spread out to 2 far, 2 mid and 1 close. You lose the first teamfight 2v4 and the enemies then rotate to their close and take out the people there. 2 people get angry and go afk. How do I carry this?

Report and move on.

9. Your teammates get soloed by Svanir. How do I carry this?

Kill animals quick, hopefully before your teammates even get there, preventing them from dying. Sucks but what can you do.

10. Two teammates are constantly trying to rob treb from each other and that’s all they do all game. How do I carry this?

pull enemies over to destroy your treb idk, tell them that treb is bad.

You’re not gonna win every game, that’s not gonna happen. Communication is key and so is being able to adapt. If your team is kitten, work around them instead of flaming them. If you play supports/not as mobile classes and face issues of your team not being able to win fights or rotating properly, reroll. Competitive isn’t just about playing what you want, but also playing what’s necessary. If you don’t make the swap/calls in order to get out of the hellhole you’re in and not try your hardest to get out there, then why should you be able to “escape”?

People here always claim the system takes more away than it gives, but when I climbed out from the bottom of silver I generally got 5-10 more for a win than a loss. Right now it’s pretty even on average, sometimes I get less for a game, sometimes I get more. Same with losses. Usually varies between 10-15.

To all the “skilled” players that honestly are tricked by their “skill” rating (read: win rating), why dont u tank your next char’s placement to bronze then lets see you get out of it. Let’s see it happen. It will never happen. None of you will ever carry your way solo out of bronze or silver. Started in Silver 1 (50 points above Bronze 3), now I’m almost gold 3. Most games played on necro, exclusively soloQ until gold and even then mostly solo. Your point?

Bring CPC and/or well of corruption, easy kills.
Be ready to stunbreak when they try to pull you into traps, drop marks when they block to ruin their day. etc

Initial ranking is based off your old MMR, so if you place low, this is partly due to you having low MMR beforehand.

I started in silver 1 and carried myself into gold 2 on mostly necro, with teammates that sometimes wanted me to throw my keyboard into the wall with the amount of absolutely kittened decisions they made or simply ended up “contributing” in amounts where they could’ve just not been playing and they would’ve been more useful.

Carrying is definitely possibly if you truly are that much below the rating where you think you should be. Look at what exactly makes you loses your games, mostly it’s getting outrotated; if that’s the case and you play a class with low mobility, swap to something like thief, mesmer, scrapper. Don’t play support ele in low tiers when you can’t rely on your teammates.

Elo hell is real but some of you aren’t even trying to get out.

Because you get the legendary weapon itself, thus a title is not necessary.
Twice-Told Legend has been added with the wardrobe update back then to compensate for players crafting the same legendary twice (or even more often) in order to get the looks, with the wardrobe upgrade rendering that obsolete.
Also, you either do the collection or you farm the gold, what gives. In the end, the player picks the path of least resistance, the most fun way for them or a mix of both. Some of the collections even give you some small permanent unlocks (Kudzu garden, Juggernaut endless consumable…)

There is no denying that Anet had the right intentions with this season redesign however it is fact that your ranking is based 80% on luck. I’m going to jump right in and say what I think should be changed in order to make a more successful pvp season.

1) Make top stats give you more points – Top stats show that you played well in the game. Having these be more rewarding highlights skill more than luck. It also would encourage people to not give up and stay in the game. You should perhaps get 5 extra points per top stat when you win a game and you should lose 5 less points per top stat when you lose a game. Sure, this may encourage people to chase things like kills but it would also give way to a more skill based system.

2) No placement matches! – These 10 matches make or break your entire season. You can be a fantastic player and get unlucky in a few matches and get confined to gold. Make everyone start in bronze and give everyone equal ground to climb the divisions so there can be no complaints.

3) Less points lost for close games – Also encourages people to keep fighting and its also heartbreaking in Gold to lose a game by 20 points and end up losing 35 SR points.

4) Destroy bunker/condi meta once and for all – This is more just wishful thinking. Maybe one day.

I certainly believe the first 2 are vital to making a good season. Would be interested to hear what people think.

1) Sure, give us a way to be awared for a good personal performance, but not five points. That’ll easily spiral out of control. Really easily. No idea about the CS:GO MVP system which has been mentioned but if that’s good, why not.

2) Placements are necessary. This season the MMR was still screwed from the older seasons, players will now slowly get closer to their true rating and keep it during the next seasons. Placements also took your pre-existing MMR into account, which is why some people who went 6-4 got into plat and some who went 9-1 got into silver.

3) Getting slightly less point loss for a close (450+) loss would be nice, but not too necessary imo.

4) Don’t think it’s too bunkery or too many condis right now, what I’d prefer would be if ANet tones down the amount of CC because that stuff is just through the roof.

if you have 50% win rate you belong where you are. People cannot accept the fact that they cant farm legendary anymore like previous seasons. Someone has to occupy the lower divions aswell, everyone is not a legend. I will probably not reach it either and Im ok with that.

You post this on almost every pvp forum post even when it has nothing to do with the actual post. some of us don’t have a 50/50 win rate. some of us have have more of a 80/20 lose/win rate. quit being a whiteknight for the devs your biased opinion helps no one

If you have a 20/80 W/L rate, then this might indicate you got placed to high. Obviously I can’t say this guaranteed as I haven’t seen you play but it very well is a possibility. At the same time it might as well be that you are indeed getting matched with bad players. However, everyone thinking they’re good players while the rest of their team is bad isn’t quite working out, sooo…
Out of all the times where people said “it’ll solve itself over time for the most part with people moving up and down in ranks” imo this time around it’ll be the one time where it actually holds true

“I have a 50/50 winrate in a system where you can fall to the very bottom if you keep losing so the system is bad”. No, means you’re where you belong for now and the only way to get out is better (and duo Q because that will eliminate the chance of getting one extremely bad player on your team). Yes, there’s people in divisions where they shouldn’t be (both people too good and too bad for theirs), but most games seem pretty good. I can tell you you’re not doing everything perfectly because no one goes without mistakes and the idea that playing a certain amount of time automatically puts you on a certain skill level is one you should erase out of your mind really quick.

Also imo ele is a really bad soloQ pick on low tiers just because you can’t rely on your teammates. Best thing you could do is pick fights where you’re outnumbered (but holding the node) and hope that your team wins by outnumbering them everywhere else.

Yes, but after months of it existing they still haven’t implemented a check that makes sure you actually did the event on that particular map and if not, you are restricted from opening the chests. Or even better, just putting an energy field in front of the entrance where the chests are where only people who participated in the event on that map can pass.

I’m sure over the course of multiple months they could’ve whipped up SOMETHING.

Make seperate 5man only queue, easy.

Pugs are and will always be random and you never know what you get or what ridiculous kitten they’re going to pull off, while some claim luck may be a skill it certainly is not.
Obviously being good helps and you can carry yourself up to a certain point, but if you have bad luck with teammates then it’s still a frustrating experience.

Hey,

usually, when you get one of the account-bound unlocks which you can only get from BLCs you already own, you get keys instead. I just got a 2nd infinirarium-glider and no keys instead. The only thing I can do now is trashing it. Is this a bug or intended? If it’s the former, I assume I’ll have to send in a ticket?

Awareness and dodging helps.

If you see a guardian standing on point, guess what, he already has put his traps down and he WILL try to pull you in. Be the clever person, pop stability and trigger his traps by dodging.

DH is in a decent place, you just need to work around the traps which is not too hard.

I have a lot of gold and I definitely would not throw my money down some NPC for a cosmetic. It would have to be really, really good and fit my more played chars perfectly in order to even get me to consider buying it. Aka won’t happen.
That change won’t do anything and many of the people with enough gold could get it back as easily, quite possibly at the cost of poorer players.

Bad idea all around.
