I run 20~29 frequently and some party memers have had vials dropped, even with >20 reward level. You get them rarely (compared to shard), but it happens.

But still, if you’ve run enough fractals it barely matters if you get no vials/ globs/ shards, since you can either combine 5 or split one into 3. ANet thought of this beforehand.

It does not entirely depends on the level you run or the reward level you posess, but it’s like 80+% based on it.

But the main point is, if you got enough Shards/ Globs, just break them into Vials.

Elemental summons are pretty much one small part of the elementalist arsenal. An elementalist can get by quite easily without using a single weapon skill. It’s a skill option.

Kits are part of the engineer’s mechanic, and more comparable to swapping attunements. They’re not just weapon summons.

It’s still comparable.
But if you agrue like this, why doesn’t my necro get legendary minions? Why doesn’t get my mesmer legendary phantasms? Why doesn’t my ranger get legendary pets? Why don’t you request legendary turrets?

For me, legendaries are an eyesore. Every computed cycle of my GPU it wasted performance, just for little kids wanting to show everyone their …. well. I’d rather get rid of those flashy things, instead of giving everyone and everything such blinding effects.

Except for Ele, Engineers are the only class who do not have weapon swap.
We have exactly 3 weapons to choose from.
Ele’s have many more that, they generally rely on attunement swaps not conjured weapons as a class mechanic.
Engineers rely on either kits/ nets to augment their weapons- Actually most engineers hardly use their weapons- this is the class mechanic much like attunements for Ele’s.

Weapon swapping classes are more than free to craft a legendary for both sets. I am sure many have.

I guess you don’t play an Engineer much?

let’s dissect this statement(s) a bit.

Engineers want legendary kits because they … want them. I want legendary weapons, because I want them, too.
Elementalists don’t use their weapon summons, but Engineers use their kits. How about we nerf each Engineer weapon kits to 50% of the current strength. Then you don’t use them >80% anymore and everyone is happy.
Just because you WANT to use them, don’t expect the system to bend towards your desire. Just becuase elementalists USUALLY don’t focus on weapon summons, doesn’t mean they can’t. They’re multiple traits which favor such builds. Even supporting the party – unlike engineers.

Engineer only has two weapons. Since YOU don’t like the shield. Elementalist only has two weapon sets, since I don’t like dagger and focus.
Engineer has three weapons and seven kits.
Elementalist has four weapons and five summoned weapons (not counting tornado ulti).

Seriously, I see no reason to favor engineers’ kits over elementalists summoned weapons. Or even secondary weaponsets from other classes.
Why not equalize those dual hand weapons with two handed wearers? Make only main hand legendary-able and the offhand automatically becomes legendary, too ?

If you have four/five characters, that don’t deserve to be deleted, you’re supposed to have enough money to buy more character slots.
If you’re a guy that plays MMORPGs only to lvl10 and recreates thousands of characters instead, two slots are enough.

Seriously, yes, the worm is horribly underscaled – most likely due to the low level area. Same applies for Chief Shaman and Fire Elemental.

Don’t try to fight against the system. Try to fight by following the rules.
In your case: Get your melee weapon or AoE skill and do the same as everyone else. The way the worm is scaled right now, it’s meant to fight like this.

Noob, but not so much. X-D I meant: spawns randomnly on target vicinity or depens on your position?

I got the feeling that is randomly spawns around the target with the most room (priorized randomization). This means that if you’re casting it on one person out of three (standing in a triangle), it’ll most likely be away from the other persons, only hitting the targeted one. Being an excellent AoE skill (sarcasm).

Another reason to make them ground targeted. Cast them on the wall, perpare curtain and pull them into your AoE … like other classes.

Since I don’t know much about thiefs or even thiefs’ mechanics, I can only talkg about general things here.

  • Sigil of accuracy doesn’t appear in the hero panel. The wiki says, that it’s still applied regularly, but I haven’t bothered to test its exact calculation. Especially with other secondary/ teritary effects.
  • Sigil of air doesn’t affect your chance to crit at all.
  • Crit chance doesn’t affect your crit damage

Phantasms often tend to spawn behind the target. So since the Mesmer stands in front of the door (and target’s it), his phantasms often spawn on the other side (and target the door).

But heck, why do you complain as enemy ? I mean, it’s free kill of his phantasms, while he/they can’t harm you.
Being a mesmer, it really sucks when that happens. Phantasms grant regeneration, retaliation, reflection and damage reduction, why the hell whould I prefer my phantasm to spawn on the enemies’ side?

As for spawning phantasms outside of LoS:
this has been fixed quite a while ago. Now it’s aweful since all mesmers skill go on cooldown, while doing nothing. And the can be blocked thrice. As easily as you can block rangers arrow rain by dodging once, blinding him, going behind an obstacle or killing the skill itself (sarcasm).

As often said before here, but in a short version:

  • Don’t go berserker build and complain that you die
  • Focus #4 (run in with GS or Staff, when the acolytes are down, switch to Focus and run)
  • Blink – stunbreaker and 900/ 1200 distance teleporter
  • F3
  • F4
  • If you use mantras, Inspiration IV, Inspiration X. Run in with MoP (and MoR) charged, use the charged for the acolytes and recharge MoP while runnign back and use your MoR charges. Remember that you can use Mirror Images (+F3/F4) and Blink while charging MoP.

Alot phantasms have a stupid AI.

as of the original question:
MLieBennett is right. iWarden thinks it’s a ranger. Follows the target to ~900 distance or LoS.

But that’s not the only stupid behaviour. Best examples would be asuran fractal – the jumping puzzle-like one.
- iWarden spawns in melee near the target, not protecting you with reflect.
- iDefender spawns next to you, not the target – being a melee phantasm
- iDisenchanter spawns near the target – being a ranged phantasm

Seriously ANet, make Phantasms ground targeted, let us choose the location. Not making them individual beings. Since we have an enemy targeted anyways, make them fixed on it and just let us select the spawning location (even for regeneration issues).

Is the delay in this signet fixed yet?

No, on the contrary. Instead of fixing this bug, they added a delay (started with 1s afar and lowered back to 0.25s) between summoning and initial attack. This means our illusions easily die before dealing damage. But they sure use casttime, replace illusion slots, cooldown and can be blocked by aegis/ blind/ evade.

But instead of digging and zombifying old thread, better stay in the mesmer section.

- I wonder why you call your build “broken” with Dwayna runes without using MoPain. I mean … it’s healing AoE for far more than dwayna.
- Dueling III; depending on how often and on which situation you use blink, you might try “far-reaching manipulations” ( I ) here. Since I rarely use scepter or OH sword, I don’t know how effective “on block” traits are.
- Inspiration III; you said “condition removal on heal” doesn’t fit you, so it’s ok to not use it. But it forced you to use another utility slot. But are you that much in melee range to get vigor on shatter. Or isn’t the aoe vigor centered at where your illusions shatter? As I said before, it’s a pointless source for self-vigor when you have dueling 5.
- As for the sigils, I’d probably not use two sigils with cooldown, they share it. So when you swap weapons, you can’t bleed on crit with the off-hand sword.

Ah, I didn’t mention before, but I’m looking at this build for PvX, not just PvE.

well, I’m PvE only. And confusion is pretty much useless there. I previously had some points in Illusions too, but I changed to be more the supporter mesmer.
I live on being alive while healing/ ressing others, “tanking” bosses and such. If I’d not constantly try to ress my party (thank ANet for mantra healing while ressing), I’d probably live twice as long as anyone else. Meaning, I only get downed while ressing others in enemies’ aoes.

  • Vigor on Shatter is primarily for me. The fact that is can give vigor to allies is a bonus. That said, I’m still testing, so if I find I don’t need the extra source of vigor, then I’d definitely swap out this trait.

as I said, its aoe is horrible. As mesmer with 60~75% crit and GS’ 3 hits per second, I have like 95% uptime of vigor. While being busy (ressing, casting, etc.) I can still use MoP for other crit sources. Vigor on shatter is only useful for your party on certain bosses. But here again, out of 4 Shatters only one grants vigor to like 2 of the party. To be frank, for melee"d" bosses, you don’t need endurance; for range"d" bosses, vigor on shatter isn’t wide enough; for personal vigor, dueling 5 should be enough.

  • Heal on Shatter. I don’t see each individual shatter as being a great heal. It’s more along the idea of shattering so often that it adds up to something meaningful. But, as I said, I’m still testing this.

as I said, I usually use this when I don’t need special traits (like projectile reflection)

  • Condition Removal on Shatter. Definitely in my sites if I deem Heal on Shatter to not be “good enough”.

  • Your 0/30/5/30/5 build seems to be less of a shatter oriented build (which is fine). If not shattering much, I’d be tempted to move 5 points in it from Dueling to Chaos for 3% less damage per clone.

I usually keep my clones for bleeding, damage or aoe heal. I shatter when the mob is almost deal, when I need the AoE to hit/tag mobs or when the summoning skills are recharged (or I need to get rid of my illusions).

  • I’ve been quite curious about the potential of rune sets with “on heal” effects. is that ~1k from just one on heal effect from the Water runes? I’ve never taken the full set of 6. There is that whole 10 sec internal cooldown for on heal effects.

all “on heal” effects trigger on your #6 skill.
As for my “heal-ability”, I have 465 healing power. 300 from inspiration, 165 from water runes, nothing else and I’d gladly exchange those with any other stat, if possible.
Me restorative mantras (Inspiration X) heals like 2700 after each mantra chast. My healing mantra charge heals like 2800 (each). And on either of those I can add ~1k (980 or so) AoE heal. So a full cycle of healing mantra grants me (2700 + 2 * 2800 + 1k =) 9300 and 3700 for others, with a (8s + 1s + 3.25s =) 12.25s cycle time.

Technically speaking the rune of dwayna is stronger. It grants aoe regeneration on heal (with 10~15s CD) and regeneration on hit. This heals for more than 1k (like 1.2k), but is a heal over time and doesn’t stack in intensity. This was a personal choice for me.

Last but not least, I usually use the Sigil of Blood granting me another (egoistic) heal by ~500 HP every 2s … and +450 dmg every 2s (said by wiki, but I don’t believe it). A supportive sigil would be the Water version, but it only heals 370 (wiki).

I usually play in party in fractals or several dungeons. The boss fights in tight areas are bad for iDisenchanter since it needs LoS. But in open areas with five ppl, it stands there long enough. It’s still a situational phantasms, but under those conditions, it’s one of the best skills.

Your theme of the build is similar to mine, but
- The range of Inspiration III (vigor on shatter) is too small. Most bosses require a bit range or even “going around with the boss” is too much for its AoE.
- Better use Inspiration IV (condition removal on heal). It’s awesome with Healing mantra. You’ll rarely face serious condition problems (probably in wvw/ pvp). If necessary, try Inspiration XI (condition removal on shatter)
- Inspiration XII (heal on shatter) isn’t bad, but not good either. It’s <1k heal per shatter. I use this trait when no other makes sense.
- I usually treat Inspiration 30 as wildcard for different situations. Reflect bubble while reviving (I), less glamour CD (II), focus reflect (VIII) and on some bosses even faster movement for each illusion (VI) are my choices.
- do you really need 20 points in Illusions? Do you shatter that often and fall below 50% HP that often?
- Is Illusions 15 (confusion on shatter) really better than Dueling 25 (confusion on illusion kill)?

My build is a 0/30/5/30/5 version. Dueling for more crits (for vigor, sigils and bleedings) and -20% mantra CD. And in Dueling 10, I usually use [I] for increasing blink range. 900 and 1200 does make a difference.
My runes are those of water. Additional ~1k aoe heal every healing mantra cycle (8+1s CD, 3.25s charge).

I mainly agree with athuria. And it removes two boons/ conditions.
- It’s not really a reliable condition remover due to bouncing. Here I recommend Inspiration IV.
- But it’s probably the most reliable boon remover. The Phantasms spawn in long range (and walkable path for platforms; unlike iDefender) and continuously removes boons from the target with only 16s CD (instead of 45s from AThievery).
- The long range often let’s it life for a quite long time, providing Phantasmal Healing for your party.

some of those are kitten expensive, and some not so much but alot of those on the list just look like crud and the ones that don’t have crazy requirements of gift of light or 250 ecto’s o 250 of something else not as expensive but definitely not cheap.

but that’s exactly what the thread starter was asking for. “Kinda expensive” with nice looks, not everyone has. Between default exotic and legendary.

Rune of water (6th) and Rune of Dwayna (6th) trigger on either #6 use. While it has a ~0.5s delay after finishing channeling, it’s instant when using a charge.
I have 300 (trait) + 165 (runes themselves) Healing power and it heals for additional ~960 (RestMantra and Healing Mantra heal each ~2700).

The more Healingpower you have, the better the Dwayna set, but technically even with low Healing, Dwayna heals more, but over 6 seconds. It’s 4th effect is also better (in my eyes). But I still chose Water since instant heal > regeneration, especially since regeneration is “pointless” if you already have it.

It is equally useful to DE in general, and moreso for various situations where fast Diversions / Distortions are not in high demand.

You’d have to explain this to me. The ratio of MoRec and MoD’s CD to channel time means Mantra Mastery actually reduces their CDs by ~13/14%, MoP is unaffected, and MoC is really a rather weak Mantra. MoRes is great but, you know, it’s a condition cleanser. How is this better than rapid Clone generation and not caring (relatively) if your opponent AoE down Illusions?

Since I’m often the last man standing in my party (or like the tanker of gigantos), healing (and evading) is the most crucidal part of those situations. (I even plan to use the Runes of Water soon.) For ME, the CD reduction is irrelevant for any other mantra but healing mantra. Having 10s CD or 8s CD does make a difference. Sure, it effectively increases the healing per time by only ~14%, but it’s still +14% healing rate (and condition removal for me).
As a “versatile build”, I use this as GM slot (over additional damage).

But if I’d had to choose, I’d use DE over MM, indeed.

I once calced the effective damage of GS#1 vs Staff#1. The Staff usually wins there. Even with alot slower atkspd, the burning just deals lots of damage (assuming the target can burn). But since burning lacks the “stack-ability”, the #1 attacks are somewhat equal. The more you stack up condmg, the better the staff, the more pow/crtdmg, the better the GS.
Ignoring burnings weaknesses, you could also get rabid gear (condmg, prec, tough) over rampager (prec, power, condmg), when using the staff. But you’ll suffer badly when fighting burning immune targets.

Does Retaliation work against Conditions ?

Retaliation is stronger than bleeding (~2x). If it’d reflect conditions, you’d most likely kill any bleeder class.

Conditions are “absolute”. They are not affected by Toughness, Protection, Aegis or Retaliation. They don’t trigger “on hit” (neither offensive nor defensive). They can’t crit.

Regarding Protected Mantras:

If you use MoP as an autoattack your DPS would be quite low. I doubt you would out DPS your opponent even if you have 75% uptime on Protection. If you really believe it is OP then perhaps it could grant just Stability, or perhaps the entire effect could be on a10s CD? What do you think?

this sure would change things. It’d still give you the possitility of 3.25s + 2s stability, but that’s still far less than others classes.

I was thinking that Deceptive Evasion might be worth bringing down to Adept level and given say a 10s CD, the reasoning being that it is pretty much an essential trait for most Mesmers. I feel that the Mesmer has too many essential traits that really locks up our trait points and restricts diversity. What do people think?

do not. Leave [Deceptive Evasion] as it is. Personally, I’d have no problem with making it a Grandmaster trait (be honest, it IS strong), but don’t give it a CD. I’d prefer other traits (other cls’) to behave the same way.

32 bit (actually 24 bit) colors = 2^24 = 16,777,216 colors
16 bit (actually 12 bit) colors = 2^12 = 4,096 colors

It’s not “half” the colors, but 4,096 times more colors. The 16 bit colors option comes from … like 1990.

It’s nice, if it helps you, but you could also remove effects or lower (effective) resolution.

Ah yes, regarding Protected Mantras: I personally don’t see why it would be overpowered, since you can barely do anything else while channelling a Mantra; and the way I suggested it you cannot really cancel-cast to abuse its effects.

Yes it could be helpful in situations where you might not want/need to do anything else, like when doing jumping puzzles or running away from enemies, but seriously: does the former really matter? And for the latter, well, I wouldn’t mind getting a little help running away from zergs… given our non-combat mobility it would be nice.

In any case it’s a niche trait in a niche build, I do think it needs to do something pretty good for it to be worth taking up. Aegis only blocks a single hit, and while that could make a difference I personally wouldn’t waste a trait slot for it… given that when channelling, I’d either be untouchable (cloaked, Distorted, out of LoS) or likely to take multiple hits.

Giving replenishing Protection AND Stability is pretty strong. Especially since you could use if permanently with a single mantra (and alot timing). Or simply using MoP as autoattack would grant you both boons almost constantly while still dealing some damage.
Giving either of those boons would be strong enough, while Protection only wouldn’t help from interrupts.
If I failed to cast Healing mantra twice (5s hit frequency from boss with 2s knockdown), I need to sacrifice my [Blink] for a successful heal (since mirror images arely prevents interrupts). As staff user you could use [Retreat], too.

If you’d get Aegis (once) for that time, you’d have ONE additional chance. An observing enemy could bypass it (with attack and then interrupt) and you could use it to block slow projectiles. I’d like to test an Aegis version, but it might be too weak or too strong.

- Why Domination 10, when you said Phantasms are bad. And I agree that they less and less often even hit once in higher FotM levels. Like the warden getting killed by ambient damage without appearing on the screen. I’d prefer Domination V (cripple on kill) here.
- Then again, why giving phantasms fury when you have meager 9% crit by yourself and they don’t even cause bleedings with crits?
- Sword offhand but scepter mainhand ? Use Focus for pull, speed and iWarden. iWarden is also a projectile absorber.
- Signet of illusions ? I hope you know how it works.
- Chaos 10 when you don’t even wear a staff …

- Staff in inventory for bosses which require [Retreat]
- Sword for AoE and 2s invul. Scepter for range + focus or clone factory
- Focus for iWarden, speed and pull. The later two are so important, that the focus will never leave my second offhand. iWarden can be very useful in asuran fragment but also is an allrounder aoe damage/ bleeder.

- My traits are focussed on crit-bleed, support heal, survivability and mantras
- Lower CD on healing mantra + additional heal from cast + double condition removal + regeneration from runes + the option of using MoP for heal
- Super high crit (70%+) for lots of bleedings; especially with GS clones or iWarden
- Clones on dodge for shatter, bleeds and survivability
- If needed, Dueling 10 and Inspiration 30 can be changed according to bosses or personal preference

- My skills are usually fixed; only the middle utility will be changed on situations between [Mirror Images] (Maw), [iDisenchanter] (condition or boon bosses) or [iDefender]

Superior Sigil of Nullification

If you use an aoe spell and the sigil triggers, it’ll be the first target it triggered with (not sure, but I don’t think you’d get and AoE boo*n* removal).
But as the wiki describes, the sigil even triggers if the target doesn’t have boons and goes into cool down.
Also, remember that all sigils share cooldown.
I think 10s CD is acceptable, yet there’re better sigils.

- Ascended trinkets can be purchased from the Fractal Golem, Laurel – or Guild merchant.

I think it’s pretty ridiculous to combine “Inviting” with “Admin Lower Ranks”. Usually I’d give my “whole” guild the ability to recruit new members. But with the “Admin” right, they can also change their ranks and even kick them.

There’s a suggestion section …

As an active mantra user, I have to say, that your “protective mantras” is just too strong. Sure, the mantra casting needs a tiny tweek (in some situations you’re knocked down every 3s which completely prevents you to heal), but perm stability is just too much. In alot jumping puzzles (and other occasions) you’d abuse mantra of pain as your stability source. And if you actively use multiple mantras, it’s … imba.
Personaly, I’d change this trait (or add another) to either “allows you to [dodge] while channeling mantras” or “gain 3.25s aegis when channeling mantras”.

we need a worthy grandmaster in [Inspiration] line. Like … “heal a small amount when an illusion dies or is shattered” instead of the 1k heal when shatter (1k per shatter, not per illusion)

- Damage comes from stats. Since you don’t even have [Sharper Images] and don’t use the staff, condition damage is pointless. For direct damage get Berserker equip (Pow, Prec, CritDmg).
- Survivabilty comes from experience (and perma vigor).
- Weapons are a personal thing. Very few ppl use the sword in the off-hand. Just try Focus or Pistol; maybe they suit you
- Traits should be planned beforehand. Here it – again – depends on what you want to specialize at. As starter, I always recommend Illusions 5 first and then Chaos 5. Then for damage Domination or Dueling line.

Ascended Ring - usefulness

As I’ve heard you can’t equip the same acended equipment twice. So you’d either need to get the defensive rampager version or the toughness version.
As a rampager mesmer myself, I think those new stat constellations are awesome (armors → rampager; accessories → toughness version).

I’d also like an option to exchange the bought amulet with another.
ANet continuously implemented new items without those stat constellations (Rampager) telling us, that it’s intended (I waited a bit before I bought a ring and capacitor, because I hoped they just forgot it). Then, shortly after you finally had the 35 Laurel together, they implemented the new versions. Now I have to refarm them just to replace the previously bought one (and sell it to the NPC since it’s soulbound).

Maybe an option to sell the old amulet for 50~75% of the Laurels back to the NPC?
