The AoE projectiles cannot be reflected (as I’ve tried multiple times), but you asked for the single target one.

As Pyro said, Mimic absorbs the first hit – while receiving full damage – and reflects all following ones for the duration. Therefore it’ll not help you on single hits.

But be sure to use Feedback on Lupi in phase three during its rapid area shot.

Actually, I haven’t been in WvW for like two months now, so I can’t give you so much tips. Especially condition removal should be harder when fighting players. The Inspiration IV trait sure helps on single conditions or while retreating, but when you face a condition player for a few seconds, no condition removal in this game will help you. They all have cooldowns, a condition players laughs at.

a2. phantasms have their own attack pattern, but scaled on your stats. Just count them as regular skills of other classes (in terms of damage).

Most important of a mesmer bleed build is precision. Get it by Dueling line and a bit rampager gears.
And I really wonder if you’re permanently running aroung with T6 malice drinks. And here again, think about using precision drinks (oils).

  • in grouping bosses: last man standing = #depends on situation#

from last two cases:

  • could be a coward; running when mob comes near, leaving party area
  • could be a healer; tried healing others, but mobs outdamaged your heal
  • could be lucky; last targeted/ hit by enemy
  • could be solo player; building armor and not caring about the party

Personally, I’m the mesmer healer type. I set my traits to group support/ heal, but another important trait of healers is survival. A dead healer is of no uses, they have to survive to heal/ ress the party. Being the last man standing as such often meant, you failed helping enough. And dying first basically, too.

This problem occurs during the loading time. Your computer is just not fast enough to load all the models. It’s like you can see things (and do actions), but you’re still in the loading screen.

The most simple thing would be to not rely on your guild and teleport to the bosses in the last 10 seconds. This problem occurs because alot other guys are using this strategy at once.
To bypass this problem, just move while not being able to see. Technically you can do any other commands except seeing yourself, seeing yourself moving or targeting. Look at the map, where you’re moving and let a party member set target at the boss for you. Watch the red bars from your skills disappear (so you’re in range) and press your skills.

Not able to target giant wurm

The current wurm has three phases (not AI, but those you’re talking about).

  • 1: coming out from earth, event not triggered yet, attackable by aoe
  • 2: event triggered, attackable by aoe
  • 3: targetable, attackable by aoe and single target skills

If you manage to kill the wurm in the first phase, noone gets anything. No boss chest, no daily chest. ANet said to fix this with the next bigger patch.
If you manage to kill the wurm in the second phase everyone who did enough damage, gets the credits for it. It’s important to deal aoe damage by either ground targeted spells (, point blank spells) or melee. We do not know, if ANet will prevent this kill, too.

ANet also said they’ll be looking at the scaling caps. Currently the starter area bosses (Wurm, FireEle, Maw and Shadow) hit the cap too soon and being outnumbered easily. We’ll have to wait this week for changes.

2) They’re planning on fixing the Ancient Jungle Wurm very soon, likely in this month’s update.

As you said, those events have a cap in scaling. It’d be aweful for new players or lowbies to see a boss which oneshots everything with every skill just because there’re 100 ppl, so ANet capped the event scaling. But like the “wurm dies before event bug” they also said to have a look at the event scaling caps for the next big update.

I understand the issue with grenade engineers, but here you have to either like the current system or not like it. Don’t try to change the system because of one single skill (/kit).

If you constantly run around with the grenade kit, better constantly use this option. For this I’d prefer either an option “turn on with grenade kit” (next to “on” and “off”).

But if you haven’t noticed, pressing the skill button again starts the skill – w/o using the LMB. This might be a tiny bit slower than using both button triggers (down and up), but it still works. I pretty much don’t use the LMB and don’t like the current option either, but I got used to pressing the skill twice (sometimes with mouse movement and sometimes just spam twice). Feels okay even with grenade kit (but I still hate it).

The question is “why are mesmers ESSENTIAL in dungeons?”. If the question would be “why are guardians ESSENTIAL in dungeons?” those berserker mesmers should also say “for damage”.
If I had to choose between a damage mesmer and damage guardian, I’d get the guardian. Or the warrior or the ranger or the elementalist and probably even prefer a damage necro.

I didn’t say that meserms can’t deal damage, but I said, that they’re not meant to. If you want to deal damage, play another class. Mesmer is a utility class. In my eyes any mesmer with >50% berserker (orientation) failed in his profession selection.

Only speaking of pve (topic says “dungeons”).

As long as you get credits for the kill, you get chances to loot (except for yellow targets). When you have chances to loot, MagicFind will be applied.

It’s not like the pet will get its own loot.

well, I’ve misunderstood that. Yeah, becoming downed is usually caused by helping others, same here. But this only happens on occasional situations.

What can be done while ressing:

  • Healing Mantra (most important)
  • Inspiration I (Feedback on res)
  • Feedback (active use)
  • F3
  • F4
  • Mirror Images + F1/ F3/ F4
  • Mantra of Pain (to kill low HP mobs, prepare heal or getting vigor)
  • Blink (I usually use blink to be instantly there, but if not it helps you to flee)
  • Constant Vigor to interrupt ress
  • Illusion of Life (lol, joke … sry)
  • GS #5 before res
  • Time Warp (speed res; random parties complain that I barely use TimeWarp for damage. My usual party complains that random mesmers don’t use TimeWarp to ress)
  • Mass invis

imho pve mesmer is overrated :|

its good like any non guardian/warrior profession

don’t go berserker and complain that you get downed. Mesmer is not the class to go berserker. If you want damage, go Warr, Thief or Ranger.

I usually die last in my parties (and not due to Ranger/ Thief playstyle) and revive the whole party. I see my role as (de-)supporter and reviver rather than dealing damage.

Survival abilities:

  • F3, F4
  • Sword #2
  • Dueling 5 + >60% crit
  • Blink
  • Inspiration IV
  • Inspiration X (+ MoP)
  • Dueling VII
  • Chaos 5
  • Water runeset

as I’ve understood the latest patch notes, this is intended. And personally, I don’t see this as overpowered, reflecting projectiles directly aimed at you for max 3.5s and leaving yourself busy casting.

i think he was being sarcasting because that is what mimic skill always did

The rules are simple:

  • you can only have one killstack at once
  • you lose all stacks on downed or mapchange
  • stacks are like buffs and not bound to “wearing the actual weapon”
  • using the same stack sigil twice at the same time, will grant you two stacks per kill
  • stacks are capped at 25

I just realized, that you were talking about a totally different thing.
As I’ve understood the system, those wouldn’t stack either. Just get one sigil of force and a sigil of “xyz slaying” on each hand.

Since I don’t like being bound to a specific weapon with my mesmer and my traits are pretty much reserved, I don’t get the weapon traits except for the foci.
Berserker Mesmers might want the GS one, Invul Mesmers might like the Sword one, but I have no problem waiting for those 20% til the skills are up again. I usually have enough to do during that time.

Mesmer weapon traits:

  • Torch: Remove conditions
  • GS: +50 Power
  • Sword: +50 Prec
  • Spear: +50 Prec
  • Pistol: +Range
  • Staff: +50 Tough
  • Trident: +50 Tough
  • Scepter: +50 Malice
  • Focus: Reflect

Well, personally, I don’t like the +50 stats. It’s just not enough … but the main point seems to be the CD reduction. But for me the focus version is the only where you wanna get both. With that you can reflect more than guardians.

I’d prefer:

  • GS: #1 pierces or #1 has a ~300 AoE at the target
  • Sword: hits up to 4~5 target instead of 3
  • Staff: #1 get one additional bounce or #1 doubled condition duration
  • Scepter: #1 deals 1s confusion each attack (?)

But those would require some coding instead of “+50 stats”.

I wonder if there’re ppl buying greatswords and then complain in the forum, that they can’t wear it in a single hand.
I mean … the keyword “Unique”, “Soulbound” or “Greatsword” are displayed at the same position …

If it’s unique, then why can players buy 2 or more of the same item on the same character? You’d think if an item was truly unique, a character could own only 1 of the same item.

I suppose when trying to equip it into the second slot, it might tell you of the unique property, but the thread starter said he took of his previous and equipped the second one.

But sure, making the text “Unique” appear red when you’re already reading one would be nice, but I doubt it’d prevent those things from happening, especially since there’s such a thread every 4 days.

I did some math before and after I put the armor back on, and I’m not getting the bonus stats as far as I can tell. Is there anyway I can “reset” the counter without having to buy the Runes/make the Armor over again? (It was expensive).

And yes, when doing the math for the totals, I took off all my gear as well as Signet of Agility. I then noted my base Precision and subtracted it from the total Precision after putting just the 6 armor pieces back on, and the numbers came out to note that I was getting the variable Precision of the armor, but not the 165 Precision from each Rune.

As the display issue has been solved, I’m going to say some other things:
- Be sure to also equip a 7th rune into your aqua breather, if you want the 6th effect underwater as well. Then the display shows “7/6” (without pvp armors) even when only 6 are active at a time.

As for the calculation:
The “12/6” thing should only be a visual thing and not affect the stats you receive. If you equip 6 superior runes of the same kind you only get each set-effect once, not per rune. So using 6 precision runes will grant you 165 prec in total, not 990.

Unequip all 6 armors, add their prec value plus 165, re-equip them all and compare your precision. It should match.

The stealth from Decoy allows you a safe heal/mantra charge/rezz/ect.

I’d have to disagree with that. On paper this skill is great, but when you use it, you’ll see the difference.

Decoy makes you invisible and spawns a clone at your position. Melee attacks hit you due to aoe. Projectiles might still hit you.
Mirror Images + F3/F4 is far more reliable (for survival) than Decoy. And yes, you can do it WHILE channeling mantras or ressing.

Decoy is a runaway skill. Probably useful in 1vs1 situations.

If I’m exploring a new area (meaning, no clue what to expect)
- PainMantra, MirrorImages, Blink

Since I’m focussed on surviving, MoP and Blink usually don’t leave my bar. The middle one will be switched depending on the situation. Feedback, iDisenchanter, iDefender and so on.

As elite skill … since I’m not leveling solo, but grouping dungeons, timewarp (and super rarely mass invis).

Skills I don’t use:

  • Ether Feast – seriously … mantra
  • Mirror (heal) & Mimic – gotta try both in asuran fractal shard. Should make me super reflector.
  • Nullfield – for condi removal, I got traits; for boon removal is iDisenchanter better
  • Veil – 2s invis for 90s CD …
  • AThievery – high CD … same as nullfield. Only good point is stealing 30m+ boons
  • Illusion of life – seriously … worst revival skill ever. Useless on bosses, doesn’t work on npcs (as every other does), most party members don’t know its ability and super high CD
  • StabMantra – 2s stability … only in asuran fractal. As stun breaker I have blink
  • DazeMantra – high CD for short daze … probably good for pvp/ wvw
  • CondiMantra – I got removal on heal … enough
  • CondiSignet – barely worth a slot. lowering clone spawn for condition damage seems odd, too. Active effect might work for pvp/ wvw
  • 50%HPSignet – phantasms spawn with estimated 10 HP within the first second, instantly dying on any hit. Shortly after they got their original … what? 2k HP? Boosting it to 3k doesn’t help much either. And I’m not a shatterer for the active effect.
  • RandomSignet – no, not even with “boon every 5s”
  • BoonDurSignet – mesmer is a boon class ? Blind every 35s ?

You get one daily chest each 10 levels. So you can run 8, 18, 28, 38, 48 and 58 and get one chest each.

  • Your lvl8, party lvl 8: daily lvl8 chest; lvl8 drops/ relics; +1 reward level
  • Your lvl8, party lvl12: daily lvl8 chest; lvl12 drops; lvl8 relics; +1 reward level
  • Your lvl12, party lvl8: daily lvl8 chest; lvl8 drops/ relics; + karma

Making conditions work in PvE

The way bleeding works, it really might stress the server. Changing it is not necessary (imo).
With the next bigger patch they’ll separate PvE and WvW. Maybe they’ll then start buffing conditions (esp Confusion) in PvE.

And I still hope they’ll add “on crit” effects on world bosses. It doesn’t matter if there’s no damage increase, but I have three classes with high “on crit” builds.

Those stat constellations have been introduced during the winter event. And until now they’re still only available from crafting those recipes.
Givers armors give boon duration instead of condition duration.

Critical Damage % Cap. Is there one?

Just know that everyone’s base crit damage% is 150%. Any thing that adds to critdmg% will just be added to that number. A rune that adds 2% will then increase your damage to 152%.

The OP is asking about critical damage not critical chance.
Simplified example: Base attack of 100 + base critdmg 150% = 250 dmg
Rune that adds 2% to critdmg = 252 dmg
and so on……

Why limit FPS?

The human eye can’t even detect differences in fps that high so it’s wasted anyway.

every human has different eyes, so those effects can’t be summed together.

The original rule was like “eyes can see up to 25 images a second”, but you can’t compare it with fluid fps. This doesn’t only apply differenty for each person, but also on the differences between the frames. If you display a motion, even the human eye can distinguish between 30 fps and 60 fps in terms of “fluidness”. It’s called http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Visual_acuity . But personally I don’t think many humans can see a difference beyond 70 fps.

Might as well extend the life of your system and give up the bragging rights about “zomgIrun120fpsalldayeatitscrubs!”.

Yeah, I’ve met other guys who said “I said down some graphic settings, so I finally have 300 fps again”.

oh yeah and the artifact tearing thing, which imo limiting the fps works better and is more practical than v-synch anyway.

tearing technically appears if the display rate is not equal to the rendering rate. But due to nowadays possibilities (tripple buffer and such) graphic cards already minimized those in default settings.

“Fluidness” of digitally displayed motion depends on multiple things:

  • Speed of your the eye; 40~70 differences per second.
  • Refresh rate your display; 60~75 Hz (common rates, not for 3D monitors)
  • Rendering rate of your GPU; 0~1000 fps
  • let’s ignore other PC components here.

In science, speed means more energy and therefore a higher stress. It’s pointless to render 120 frames in a second, if your display can only show you 60. It’s pointless to force the display to change 140 times a second, when your eye can’t see half of those.

Even if others don’t like VSync, it’s default [on] for me. I don’t need to brag about 70 fps, when my display is set to 60 Hz. It’d just disorder the frame timings.

Max Stats?

The only hard stat cap in the game is Critical % at 100. Everything else is “softcapped” by the bonuses on your gear and your build.

I had 104% CritChance before.
There ain’t critical-chance reducing effects yet, but there may be some day.
