Impressive knowledge of Vizunah dude, in french language we call posts like yours “etron”.

In English we call such comments rude… but it just demonstrates how you are in denial of the facts.

We all know that VS run away when a SFR core player approaches (marked by the guild tag) and you only win when the other servers are outmanned. If the game was based on skill instead of exploits and numbers… then VS would be in tier 8.

oh and if you do introduce a French speaking server to the US set of servers… you need to give a couple of weeks free transfer again to allow the Quebec players to move to their own timezone and you would need to reset the server scores to allow the Quebec players a chance to be placed according to their ability amongst the US servers.

I think this is part of the problem here… Anet is listening to American players and ignoring the EU players.

Other than cracking down on exploits… there are only three major issues that Anet need to address… 1) night capping (i.e. rewarding skill over numbers), 2) better rewards for wvw, 3) culling

I have already suggested that night capping be dealt with by increasing the points for an outmanned server and decreasing the points for the server that has more players on the map… for example, the server with fewer members scores more points for holding Bay than the server with more players – this is on a server basis not an individual player basis.

However, the situation on US servers could be made more interesting if Anet introduced a Asia/Oceanic set of servers.
This still does not detract from the problems on the EU servers where French speaking Quebec players play on EU (Fr) servers for language reasons… perhaps the US servers could have both a Spanish and a French speaking set of servers to encourage these players to play on their own timezone servers.

The way things stand at the moment VS will always be no.1 on EU servers… not because of skill but because they will always out-man all the other servers during the night. That is why SFR threw a week in order to play with some other opposition but we see a similar situation with Canadians playing on JS for French language reasons… although not as damaging as VS (I mean, the other night we had no walls or gates on Garrison, no supplies, no siege, outmanned on the map, and 10 of us managed to defeat the JS zerg and the Kodash zerg at the same time – that wouldn’t have happened with VS) it still demonstrates that there is a need for a French speaking US server.

Not to mention that players that only play during the night (like myself and many many others) due to many RL reasons, would be unfarly wronged.

That is not how it would work at all… it is the server that will not score as highly during those times rather than the individual players. Individual players would still receive the same amount of karma and xp.

Proumbro… I think your argument is weak. You seem to be promoting the numbers game rather than the skill game.
SFR for example fights with fewer people than VS all the time. During our primetime we dominate… come 2am CET then VS run around the map with 2 huge zergs capping almost empty forts when there are no more than 10 people on the entire map. Where is the skill in that?
Don’t try and say it does not happen… every top WvW server in the game (incl. SFR) were trying to recruit European or US guilds before the server hopping changes. Sometimes there is a decent amount of balance… like when PRX were on SFR, there was a healthy amount of 24 hour action that was evenly matched in terms of numbers but SFR completely outclasses VS every time when the numbers game are more even.
I am arguing that this should be reflected some how in the game.
In your example, server A only roflstomps server B and C during certain times (i.e. when most of Europe… or most of America/Oceania are asleep) but when they are awake server A is the one that gets roflstomped.

So what is the problem about awarding fewer points if you have fewer foes to fight and more points if you have more foes to fight?
Sounds like a lot of players are getting their kicks out of taking empty forts guarded by npcs and then boasting about playing pvp.

here is an idea… why not make the points equate somehow to the number of opponents on the map… so you score less if there are fewer opponents to fight and score more if there are greater numbers of opponents. That would equate to servers being placed according to player skill rather than making it a numbers game.

While I am at good ideas… any chance of making the Jumping Puzzles in WvW only accessible after you complete 10 WvW events in one week? Nothing more annoying than ques to enter WvW and finding a JP full of people – it would also add value to the number of opponents fighting if you decide to use that idea for scoring.

this is going to be most interesting for SFR… it’s population has always been well below the weight it punches at in WvW.
What would be really nice is to see some sort of scoring system that rewards fighting on an outmanned map. Most of the time when we fight VS we are vastly outnumbered but can often hold our own. It would be nice to see some sort of recognition for that, so the points become based on skill rather than how many numbers you can pump onto the server during the middle of the night.

New Material ideas for WvW

I am always hearing about the need for new material in WvW from grumbling players. So thought to maybe start a thread for suggestions.

Personally, I do not think there is any need to make changes to skills. GW1 became a bit of a joke with regards to uncalled for ‘balances’ because some players were unable to play outside the meta or be creative… for every skill there is a class that holds the counter skill.

So this thread is about pure content not skills.

My suggestions would be to possibly expand the map areas… possibly introduce wider playing areas with spotted pele towers.

Coming from the county with the most castles in England… may I suggest adding some features to the existing forts/keeps… I have never been to a castle yet that is not riddled with secret passages and hiding places… so how about introducing secret areas that are in unusual, difficult to reach places but not telling anyone where they are located and moving them around each month/reset so that they keep their ‘secret’ element.

Another feature of genuine castles from my area of the world is that I have yet to visit one that does not have a rumoured ghost. So how about introducing a single castle ghost in each fort/castle that only appears to help when the Siegerazer is present on the opposing team or when the attackers out number the defenders… and then have the ghost disappear if the defenders become greater or equal to the attackers?

Next is a tactic of real siege warfare… I absolutely love all the siege equipment in WvW… but where are the siege towers? Where are sappers digging tunnels to collapse walls? Where are the tunnels of defenders trying to out flank the attackers or intercept the sapper tunnels? Tunnels take time to dig, can collapse and can be over run by either side… It might be worth the developers reading some of the history of St Andrews castle in Scotland. Tunnels could be something that only engineers can do… which would increase the value of this class in WvW. They would need to be cost/time evaluated as they should take longer than treb’ing a wall.

It would be nice to see a castle in WvW that is built to the same specifications as Berwick castle.

It would also be nice to see the ability to design and build your own fortifications as a server. So maybe start each month without any fortifications at all but the sites on which to build… then players get to choose a fort design with a selection of mix and match features that can be added… it then takes x-amount of points to build… but I am not sure what the costing should be (server points?) or how/who gets to choose the design/build.

Something along the lines of a Crusader castle would be good to replace the current Stonemist castle. Whereby breaching the outer wall only leads you into a maze of defendable ‘streets’ before reaching the keep.

The introduction of portcullis as a final keep/fort upgrade would be nice too. Adding a roof to a superior battle ram for protection against boiling oil? But a roof that can be burned through… would not really change the function or capability of a superior ram but simply an ascetics change.

Any case, there are one or two ideas from me… no doubt the WvW ‘community’ is brimming full of other ideas.

well I agree with you… I can make 1g per a day in wvw but I spend it just as fast. I farm the materials to sell to top up my balance. I over spent Sunday night so have been bit more conservative the rest of the week.

You seriously need to read the Seafarer’s Rest WvW forums concerning the recent update that has since prevented almost all the core players from logging on allowing other servers to take advantage.

WvW core players spend hours playing the game… I myself, before my baby caught the norovirus stayed up until 6am on Sunday night helping secure my server’s gains. We are a very committed bunch but the continual ignoring of our concerns is proving detrimental to the game… everyday I hear of more people rage quitting the game.

In GW1 when Anet messed up an update allowing lots of players to exploit the mistake, the game was rolled back to the same status as before the mess up. The same is required in WvW. The servers need to have their scores and map possessions rolled back to before the update that prevented SFR server players from logging on to defend their territory. Failure to do so is an insult to all the many hours these players have dedicated to your game. Simply ignoring and deleting our complaints is goimg to generate bad press outside of these forums. We have already seen Futilez quit the game…

I think you can sum up T1 as follows…
SFR – the more skilled individual players but lacks numbers
ER – semi-skilled players and able to produce numbers from elsewhere on the map to rescue bad situations. ER will try and sneak attack places by coming in behind VS and SFR battles but do not have the numbers to always pull it off and as a result lose a lot of territory fast to VS.
VS – huge numbers but on the whole individually very weak (with the exception of one or two rare players who are very skillful). VS will wait until SFR and ER are fighting each other and then try to steal the win with shear numbers when all the hard work has been done by SFR or ER. SFR are often able to take out VS zergs twice the size in numbers but ER tend to get swamped by VS.

About Us:

In Guild Wars 1… I created The Mirror of Reason (SNOW) a high end pve guild that was highly respected in the game and was recognised by Anet as a notable guild.

But, not many people remember that when SNOW was first created it was as a pvp guild. We were a top 30 gvg guild even breaking into the top 20 GvG guilds. When factions came out we were an Alliance Battle guild owning the town Zos Shivros. Shortly after being recognised as a notable guild by Anet, we briefly once again became a top 50 GvG guild, making it into the top 40 and just shy of top 30 once more.

SNOW took a different direction when Hard Mode was introduced and the guild became a high end PvE guild which it continues to do so today on the North American Server IoJ… people seeking a PvE guild could do no worse than to look towards SNOW (www.snow-guild.com). The guild has been in safe hands long before Guild Wars 2 when I retired the leadership to focus on my own game play.

BUT, myself and one other, wanted to relive our PvP glory days in WvW.

I joined Futilez on the Seafarer’s Rest Server (EU) but alas the guild broke up shortly after… at a loss of where to go next, we decided to create a new guild focused on WvW play.

We are brand new… as such we only have a few friends from SNOW who have kindly offered to help out while we establish ourselves as a new guild. I have the experience of running a high end guild. We will not be brand new forever but… we need members who are willing to help us build.

Guild Wars 2 is relatively new still… so experience is not something we are particularly looking for… we are looking for the following:

People who are active and enthusiastic about playing in WvW – experience not necessary… that will come. At this moment numbers is more important. But people who are respectful of others in the guild and on the server. You don’t have to be saints… unlike SNOW we are not seeking to create a family guild here.

However, we are also looking for experienced commanders to become officers. People who already have commander status and experience of WvW. At the moment my colleague in starting the guild has commander status and I am currently saving my pennies for it, we have both put in a lot of hours playing WvW on Seafarers, Far Shiverpeaks, IoJ and Blacktide (we have been on Seafarers for almost 2 months now and have no plans to leave this server)

We play on Seafarer’s Rest EU server which at time of posting this advert is the no.1 EU server for WvW… but we welcome people from any timezone including Australia and the Americas who are willing to switch servers to join us. Seafarer’s has quite an active North American based community and WvW is active 24/7 here (although the same cannot really be said for PvE).

Our language is English but you don’t have to be a native speaker. Most European languages are covered on the server but the guild’s language is English… although 2 of us can speak Japanese if any Japanese gamers are interested in joining us.

We make strong use of the server’s WvW forums and Teamspeak 3… access to TS3 is essential as is working together with the other guilds on the server.

I don’t want to dismiss the problems with culling… but it seems quite clear from a few of the comments on this and the previous locked thread that some people are unaware that there are skills in the game that can create a wall of invisibility or make a group invisible upon their approach to attacking.
Not all of the problems people are complaining about are due to the problems concerning culling… don’t get me wrong there is a culling problem to be discussed too.

I have just fought a ER and a VZ – two small zergs who were working together to take bluebriar. I thought all this conspiracy theory stuff was a load of rubbish but I literally swear on anything you like… I just fought people with FR and DE in their tags fighting together against SFR – we still kicked them back into the lake but seriously guys? You both outnumber us hugely regardless of the number of pve players on your servers – it was still about 20 of you (combined) vs 9 of us. Admittedly when I normally see both your tags together you are fighting each other and I come in and take someone out on the sly… but this time you were genuinely, hand on heart, fighting together and not against each other… what gives?

Come off it reading the absolute rubbish written on here about PRX… I am based in the UK and often play in the middle of the night… there are times when I see VS zergs of 30-40 ppl at 2am and there is me and 3 other people representing the entire of SFR on one particular corner of the map. PRX only have enough numbers to defend one section of the map and every single morning I wake up to see that VS have taken over almost the entire map.
SFR are playing at a serious numbers disadvantage. It is only a medium populated server fighting against two high populated servers.
The truth of the matter is that VS have numbers but there are only one or two individual skilled players. Which is why SFR are able to beat VS zergs almost twice their size. It is when those zergs becomes 3-4 times and even 10 times the size of the SFR defenders that they take over. I have seen some VS players fall from full health at a single hit… which just beggars belief. But in the end sheer numbers just take over. Unless SFR can recruit more people to the server then they are going to drop a tier. Before SFR could dominate at peak times between 7pm-11pm but Elona are able to beat them at the numbers game during those times and SFR are fighting on the back foot all the time now… seriously outnumbered.

Well I have not sat down and recorded every single kill – but it is noticeable enough for me to comment on it.

I don’t just tag a foe, I am doing reasonable damage. I am not one of these people who goes around tagging stuff for karma points. If I find I have pulled something onto someone who is doing something different then i stay and help to clean up my mess.

Does magic find gear make a real difference?

Do you not find that when MF reaches a certain point fewer foes actually drop anything? MF is definitely worth having and there is a definite increase in loot and gathering. However, I find that the difference between an omnom bar and a chocolate cherry is enough to reduce the number of foes actually dropping anything. I think it balances itself out. If it were to be drawn on a graph, I think you would get a sharp increase followed by a slow plateauing – where your drops are more valuable but there are fewer of them, equating to similar or marginal amounts of cash being earned.
I usually hover around the 180% mark, but I have stopped doing Jormag for a few days and then went in with around 230% and got next to nothing.

To be honest – I have reported a map bug that was preventing me completing a map area and in 15 mins I got kicked and when I got back online, it had been fixed.

I have also noticed when playing the labyrinthe pvp side that the way some players were using to get on top of the wall has been fixed to stop them doing it anymore and that was done within 12 hours of someone first reporting it.

I think they probably fix things according to urgency.

I just buy the stuff… I crafted all my jewelery but it is a time to reward ratio to think about. Do I spend a lot of time on the hope of getting something good or do I spend that time raising the money to just buy it.
I find my luck in GW and GW2 is not brilliant (GW2 is certainly better than GW – I think I must be the only person to get level 20 pre-searing and not get a black dye drop and every chest I have ever opened with a key was grape). So I have just developed a mentality of just farming rubbish, selling to merchants and buying the good stuff.
Incidently I have my MF at 131% before buffs… I can increase that to 152% from weapons and kills. Usually between 182% and 192% with buffs.
I find I get more cash drop, and often more stuff from gathering but not that much difference in terms of high end items.

I agree but there needs to be a couple of checks…
Firstly, (and I know this is not the case with the Mad King), if you have lots of people tackling a boss then there is no real skill involved – so to expect a high end item is not reasonable. Perhaps a system can be made whereby the number of people taking part equates to the quality of end item.
Secondly, there are times when the number of people taking part is just detrimental. I have complained elsewhere about this. There perhaps needs to be some sort of cap on the number of people allowed to participate… I would hesitate to say just lower the number of people allowed to enter the map…. but they would need to deal with the bots first (thanks moderator… but I thought my idea was novel).
Thirdly, something needs to be done about taggers and late comers. There is nothing worse than soloing a veteran or champion and spending a good bit of time wearing it down and killing all the respawns, only for some asuran imp (it nearly always seems to be asurans) to appear from nowhere and join in the very last bit of finishing the kill to then get the drop reward instead of yourself.

Large scale group events - problems

I really enjoy these big group events when there is a lot of strangers coming together to kill things.

BUT, after switching servers to a more populous one that allows both Americans and Europeans to play together because of the changes to cater for the WvW players. I have found that instead of getting a gold reward for completing an event from start to finish with a group, I am now only getting a silver reward or bronze.

I switched to fighting with my staff that records my kill rate up to 25 and realised that despite hitting a lot of foes, I was getting no recognition for the kill. I found that my aoe skills were getting no credit for the damage that they caused too.

This is simply down to the number of people hitting a foe and the fast kill rate but it is wrong that I should get no credit for helping with the kill, when I can see the damage scores on my screen.

Some events like Plinx are just not worth doing anymore because there are far too many people doing the same event.

The other thing I have found is that when magic find goes above a certain level, the number of foes dropping loot falls off. If I pop a chocolate cherry I get a reasonable amount of loot… not all high end, but if I pop an omnom bar then I get higher end loot and more gold but fewer foes actually drop anything – it has got to the stage where I actually make more using the chocolate cherry.

Simple way to deal with bots

I have a really easy idea on how Anet can deal with the bots… any person fighting without armor in a high end map area gets banned.

People coming out of dungeons without armor are not likely to start fighting foes until they have fixed themselves up so they should be safe.

Once again… listening to the pvpers at the expense of the pvers – when will Anet learn.
In GW1 they nerfed the hell out of skills because of the incompetence of pvp players. You would go into pvp and destroy their meta… the next thing all your skills are nerfed because people were saying they were over-buffed… when in reality they were just incompetent players unable to produce a build of their own to counter your build. Originally, for each skill there was a counter skill… by the time GW2 came out, the skill system in GW was a mess.
I remember the days when ranger spike was the big thing in GvG and I brought aegis with me to counter it – I got called a noob by everyone because of the energy costs of aegis… our guild went to a top 30 rank as a direct result of being able to destroy ranger spike with one skill. Rather than come up with another build that stripped enchantments, aegis got nerfed because of all the whining pvp players.

I am sick of incompetent pvp players whinging about this, that and the other and the pve population having to suffer as a result. I thought GW2 would bring an end to this but it started almost immediately after release.
Here is a novel idea… how about making it so that you can’t actually enter WvW or any other pvp event until you have completed 75% of the map in pve and killed all the major bosses. It might then improve the quality of the average pvp player and stop the whinging that is detrimental to the pve player.

Mountain climbing

I have climbed quite a few of the peaks in shiverpeaks…. I find it fun. There are one or two I get pretty close to the top but the game prevents me reaching (not because there is no reasonable way to the top – just the edge of the map kind of thing).

I would like these edge of the map type restrictions lifted on some of these peaks so I can get to the top. I don’t suggest that they change the terrain or where would the challenge be in reaching the top but if a place is clearly passable then allow me to continue my assent please.

It would also be nice to have some sort of minor reward for reaching the top – perhaps some guild credit or karma would be nice… although the view is usually reward enough.

Multi-national guilds and servers

I am sure that there are more guilds out there than ours suffering because in GW1 the guild was mixed Americans, Europeans, Australians and Asians.

We really need a set of international servers to encourage similar guilds to join the same servers. At present we are on a European server but our American players are finding it difficult to get enough players together for big events. Initially we tried to use two servers but that just led to long periods of time where players could not play with each other because they had to wait 24 hours before switching again. Plus we have a lot of players now who are in multiple guilds on multiple servers.

The issue was a problem in GW1 when UW/FoW access was set to HoH according to European or American servers. It did not work in GW1 and it is causing the same sorts of problems in GW2.

Scrap this server wait time and the threat of a switch charge (although I understand that the wait time is there to prevent everyone bandwagoning a strong server in WvW) OR introduce a new set of servers specifically encouraging international guilds (which if you want to keep the WvW game dynamic is the best option).

We are playing Guild Wars not the Ryder Cup.

I have been playing the Mesmer and enjoy it greatly… however there are some major issues with this character.
On the whole, the damage output of a mesmer is greatly lesser than other classes… significantly so. As such there is a very large tendency for foes to respawn before the mesmer has a chance to kill more than 4. At one stage I found myself trying to tackle a dredge boss only to be continuously swamped by the repeated respawning of other dredge. Another time I found myself trying to perform (without success) the ritual that raises Saul from the dead only to have to kill the same 6 ghosts several times before abandoning the tomb.
There are two options that would increase the enjoyment of playing this class… either increase the output damage to match other classes, OR, increase the time between respawns in order to allow the mesmer to kill some foes before there is a respawn.

Finally, there is a need for rewards to be suitable to the class receiving them. It seems that each time I receive a reward it includes a piece of medium armor… which is no good for a mesmer that uses light armor. This can be solved by either simply making awards suitable for the class receiving them or by offering a choice of armor types (heavy, medium, light) as is done during the early stages of the game.
