OK… I am starting to get a little tired at my skills not working… can you fix them please…
1) cast time needs to be what it says on the tin…. it should be half a second to cast almost all of my skills but it is more like 1/2 a minute to cast anything… this is especially important for magic bullet and blurred frenzy
2) make it so that my skills work on small elevations… things like magic bullet and swap misfire 9/10 times if I am on a different elevation to my target – and I am NOT talking about being on the wall of a keep
3) all mesmer interrupts are shorter cast time than a hammer warrior and yet, I am constantly finding my own interrupts being interrupted by hammer warriors… this should be the other way round
I am getting tired of having to dodge and go invisible all the time and taking twice as long as normal to kill the enemy because my skills are not working as they should.

a zerg is less than 40 ppl give or take a few… a blob is 50+
or more specifically, a blob tends to be when you have to que to get on the map and once on the map almost everyone (give a take a few) is following the same commander.
But if you can cap the number of people able to see the commander tag then you would have distinct definition on what is a blob and what is a zerg.
There is an alternative… if Anet forcibly divided the population of the game into servers that were more equally balanced by moving entire guilds to different servers… So that each server had more or less the same number of people… and then solved the skill lag issues… then the dreaded blob would not be an issue anymore.

Err, I’m Outmanned on every bl everyday, even home at times lol.. and exploiting happens on every server mate.
RoS has a horrible reputation when it comes down to cheating (I know a lot of that is false or just due to individuals since RoS was my home..) but that sorta makes it RoS can’t complain about some individuals using “ac hacks”, because your people do literally the same and I see none of us crying about it (for a change, because I remember people accusing RoS in every matchup lol).And yea i just replaced UW with RoS, fun eh?

No matter how much Server X cheat’s, it doesn’t give you a freeride to cheat too.
Justifying it by saying but but but you cheat too, and your reputation is so bad, which it isnt btw. maybe in your shaded biased view it is, but only that.
I totally hate cheating, no matter if its done by an ally or by a foe, it’s foul play.
I enjoy the matchup, i don’t care who wins in the end, but stop acting like your the topdogs here, cause the few RioT i saw in eb where barley noticable.

You didn’t notice me Keva for two reasons… firstly, I am the mesmer that hides and portals people in when you have gone (except when I get caught it a lag spike)… secondly, I am the person on the top of SM holding you off with the canons… on the weekend I solo defeated both UW and FR attacks on the SM gates and on a couple of garrisons with my uber canon skills.
Besides… RoS does not equal RiOT and nobody in RiOT thinks that we are the only and best guild on RoS… we have some brilliant players and guilds on RoS that are not RiOT. We are honoured to be playing alongside them. We are merely one guild among equals.

Zergs are fun, they are what set wvw apart from spvp and should be encouraged not destroyed. In the times of olde armies fought each other, not small groups of elite forces.
BUT… blobs are not fun. They cause lag and because of other dynamics of the game, create a numbers only game – for example, in real life, you can’t run up a hill in full armour without losing a lot of speed. You can’t easily run through woods, and bushes or jump streams and trenches – or swim in full armor. All things that were employed in the past by inferior numbers to beat a superior strength.
SO how do we keep the zerg but eliminate the blob? One suggestion is to make it so that you have to join a commander to see their tag on the map. Then limit the number of people who can run with the commander and still see their tag. Obviously there is a clear way around this (employed by guilds) but it should have an effect on the size of zergs.
Another suggestion is to create more choke points on the map. Reduce the strength of armor underwater but introduce the ability to create boats as moveable siege. Make the streams more difficult to cross by making them deeper forcing the use of bridges. Slow people down as they climb up a hill and speed them up as the climb down… make it slower to move in heavy armour and easier to move in light armour but change it so that all classes can choose which kind of armour they wish to use.
Personally I think the latter suggestion would cause too many people to quit the game and cause a lot of grief on the forums. But, the first suggestion would work quite well. Make the cap 30 people and then it can be moved up or down after a trial period.

I spend 90% of my time in the game soloing outmanned maps… 1% in small roaming groups trying to sneak down walls and gates. 9% in a small zerg.
I have yet to see a huge RoS zerg… we simply do not have the server numbers to blob.

there are a few mesmer hacks that I have seen like blinking on top of walls… if you can… film it and report it.
I think that Anet need to revisit the line of sight thing on mesmer skills because sometimes even if I am on a small hill… half my skills won’t work (especially sword/pistol combo)… I need to be on a even playing field to use some of my skills. I manage but it does give the person I am fighting against an unfair advantage and I have to spend more time dodging and in invisibility waiting for skills to recharge.

I have had a blast on this match up…. was great fun successfully defending garrison on my own against 15-20 UW
Not many 1v1 fights though.
Also had great fun in one of the bl towers dodging 2 people chasing me before I finally mistimed a skill and got caught out… Still was good practice, good fun, and helped distract you long enough for the rest of RiOT to cap bay.

I think they should standardise the badge drops… make it so that you get one badge per a rl player that you kill (help to kill) plus loot. I would keep them for camp and tower bosses to encourage people taking them but would drop them from jp and other npc.

ah when I read the title for the thread I thought it was a proposal for some wvw action between players and devs… I am well up for a 1v1 with the moderator… and I am sure my guild will be up for a gvg behind the windmill with the anet team as I have no doubt many other guilds will be too. We will probably get owned but would be a great learning experience and immense fun.

yes… the GH heavy power is quite impressive… I had some good fights with a warrior yesterday in our supply camp and my max damage build was barely scratching his health. I was also surprised that his hammer smash was also faster than my own interrupt – something for anet to address perhaps – make all class interrupts equal in cast time.
I was a little hampered by wasting skills on the dolyaks and camp guards but eventually, I switched builds and defeated him… and although I was barely troubled after switching my build (except when I fell off the edge into the water)… it was still a good fight.
Alas when I returned there was a ranger and my zerg build was not suited for 1v1 with a ranger… so I switched back but then there was an engineer too and 3 v 1 plus camp guards and quaggans meant it was no longer worth trying out different builds.
I did try to invite them to a party so that we could perhaps organise some 1v1 fights properly without any interference but there was no response…

It was a very good warrior build… first time I have ever had any difficulty in beating a warrior. The other two players (ranger and engineer) were just opportunists… 1v1 they would have both died pretty quickly. I had them both down to near zero health before either friend or guard came to their rescue. But hats off to the warrior…

I thought it was incredibly funny when they appointed me communications officer on the very day I got banned from the forums But then RiOT have a wicked sense of humour… as you would see if you watch any of our videos.
People always think we are some sort of serious WvW guild… we are a PvX guild who enjoy a good laugh and we never take ourselves so seriously that we lose the fun in playing the game.

The problem with most defensive WvW mechanics is that it’s always the same people doing them.
It’s easy running with the zerg for many kills and badges, and asking if anyone has eyes on this or that tower.
Just like it’s easy to expect OTHERS to build siege there, make sure supplies get through, or even upgrading it.
Latest boring addition to that list: expecting others to tick siege so they don’t despawn by the time you arrive with the zerg…The same minority of players bother with the boring and costly stuff, while the same majority of players expect others to do it while they go for the fun fighting all over the map.
To me that is the main flaw of the system.
And the remedy indeed should be to give some fun and rewards to those doing the boring work.
What and how can be debated upon. But as it stands: the players running with the zerg all over, are still rewarded a lot more than the ones defending.
The zerg only comes defending when there is an actual fight to be had after all…I played in T3 with a bit of T2, and I play in T8 now.
it was the same everywhere: day after day I saw the same people running supplies, scouting, defending, ticking siege… and I saw the same people running with the commanders from fight to fight never bothering with defense untill an enemy zerg arrived.It’s normal you have a minority of defenders and a majority following the commanders. But that doesn’t mean it should always be the ‘others’ who are stuck with the boring stuff.
Better rewards, and more things happening on defensive tasks are indeed a good idea.
I have nothing against better rewards for defenders… people running supply, fixing walls, building siege, ordering upgrades etc. I just don’t think there should be any pve event content added.

well before they changed the sword thing… you didn’t need anyone standing around waiting… you just kept an eye on the map. Sure you got fooled a few times by people banging on doors while passing (still happens).
So my suggestion is that you just remove the sword delay. and return it to how it was before.
Alternatively you can do what Viz do which is to pay people to wait… or you can do what we do, which is to rotate every 20mins or leave someone who is semi akitten to just check the walls if swords appear (people doing work on their computers or eating but listening to the teamspeak).

How do you have wvw if only one realm has access to it? Wouldn’t it just be another pve dungeon that is reliant on the pvp players for access (aka UW/FoW in GW1 before they changed the dynamics)…
Because other 2 servers already had people in it when it flipped? I don’t see why is that hard to comprehend.
If it has good drops, why pvp people would not hurry there when in flips? Is it bad thing that dominating server in wvw loses some people to pvp/pve combo dungeon?
OK in reality 1 other server will have people there when it flips… it flips and then the dominant server head there and the first thing they do is wipe out the people already there. End of story… pointless. Still the worst wvw idea ever.

As much I hope this new system work out ok, I can’t see it happening. Unless they lower the spread matchups random math, even the chances are low, tier 1 servers can fight against tier 3 servers wich I don’t even need to say how bad that would be.
Why not a very basic ranking system(NO RATING)? Like this:
- FINISH MATCHUP 1ST PLACE = MOVE UP A TIER
- FINISH MATCHUP 2ND PLACE = REMAIN ON TIER
- FINISH MATCHUP 3RD PLACE = MOVE DOWN A TIER
This way a server will never ever face the same matchup in a row plus they will always be fighting against a server that you can compete as well as you are close each other(like an imaginary rating).
what you’ve described is usually called WULD (Winner Up Loser Down), and it turns out that WULD has even worse volatility.
WULD essentially guarantees that a T1 server will fight a T3 server every other week. Likewise, it will put a T2 server against a T4 server every other week, and so on.
To understand why, imagine three closely-matched servers in Tier 2. The winner will move up to tier 1, and the loser will go down to tier 3. meanwhile, the loser from tier 1 will come down to tier 2, and the winner from tier 3 will go up to tier 2.
The match will be a blowout. the T1 server will easily beat the T3 server (and probably the T2 as well), and the next week they’ll go back up and the T3 server will go back down, resulting in essentially the same matchups you started with. then a week later, the blowout will be repeated.

I don’t think that will be the result… you are correct in that a t1 server will face a t3 server… that’s not the issue. I think you will find that some of the lower servers are actually quite skilled or they are very fast to learn.
I think if you took away the numbers advantage… then a lot of lower servers are capable of beating the higher tiers.
For example, at one point we had ourselves (RiOT), a full VcY, VoTF, and XxX all on Ruins of Surmia server in tier 8. At that time, we could easily have beaten any of the tier 2 servers and it would only have been the numbers that would have prevented us beating the tier 1 servers.
Obviously, now that it is just RiOT and half of VcY left, it would be more challenging but it would not be a walk in the park for Gandara. We only lack the numbers of one decent size pvp guild during primetime to make the match more even. Similarly, while we have been here, the other servers around us have not been sat idle. GH now has FURY playing for them and I assume (forgive any arrogance here), that FURY and playing against ourselves has imparted a lot of knowledge to some of the other GH (and Dzag guilds) because they are now a lot more organised, more focused, and they have managed to harness much better the raw talent of their individual/small group players. The tier has improved immensely since we first arrived and I think it will be the same on a one up, one down system… what you will get is people learning from the tactics of other servers, adapting and eventually beating the dominant server in the group.
Incidently, any reasonable sized pvp guilds out there, would be more than welcome on RoS to replace those we recently lost… No lag (when wvw is working properly), no ques, and good competition from the other servers.

grrr…. stop turning pvp into more pve… Can’t think of anything worse. Besides if you are busy doing some event thing inside the fort then you are not really looking at what is happening elsewhere… making it easier to attack.
The easiest trick in the book is to wait until the centaur or skritt attack a supply camp and then come in behind them after the scout has confirmed it is not a real attack.

What I find more annoying is when there is no one at the entrance, but there are several people camping at the top of the coliseum room after the dark room. Not only is it impossible to win 1 v 6 when they have that kind of high ground, but you get to do most of the JP before realizing that they’re even there.
On top of that, it really just seems like bullying at that point. If you want to PvP in there that’s fine, but do you really have to kill every solo player that’s just doing the puzzle? /inb4L2Pyou’reinwvwbro
the very first time I did this jp…. some thief ganked me at the end chest… now I just kill anyone I meet there regardless where they are at in the puzzle, and I do the same on the rare occasions I enter the other jp too (usually following ppl in there just to kill them). I suggest you do the same from now on.

I personally run a mesmer. You get ganked more than a thief because it is more difficult to run away with the build I use… but I personally find it more challenging and hence more fun.

This is excellent and would be true if our rating currently had significant meaning. Once this new randomization is in place for a while we expect both ratings and deviation will stabilize a bit more. If at that point our simulation is still generating bad match-ups we can absolutely look at lowering the range.
But would that not just recreate what we already have? i.e. static boring matchups where servers find themselves stuck in the same tier despite dominating for weeks. (…and everyone knows that the only reason GH won this week was because of the dc problems this week – RoS didn’t just throw a 10k lead).
I am willing to try the new system out but if we end up back to the start then what will be next?
I personally still think a one up, one down would mix things up while keeping servers at the right level… if a server goes up one week and then finds themselves out of their depth then they will simply go back down the following week.

I am not saying VoTF were bad or did not contribute… both after they left and before they arrived we were dominating the tier… The loss of the bulk of VcY to another game is the no.1 reason for more balanced match up this time.
That and the contribution that Fury have made to GH and the better organisation of some of the other GH guilds like PRXM and MARA…
