good choice… mesmers get no love from anet – only class in the game where their own elite can kill them faster.
As other posts have stated… playing a mesmer is all about positioning. The one place that mesmers excel over all other classes are garrison fights which is why I love them so much and spend half my life scouting garrison. You can jump between the floors with ease – which also makes refreshing and building siege easier too – mesmers make the best keep scouts – but you have a distinct advantage of dropping to the lord room ganking a few strays… then blinking back to the 2nd floor and ganking a few squishies trying to do range damage to those below or using wave to push them into the lord room.
The three worst things about playing a mesmer are 1) speed – you need a focus for speed boosts which is a pain because I hate using a focus when fighting solo and would sooner just potter about at slow speed than risk being ganked with a focus equipped, 2) damage – there are times when I can hit a warrior with everything I got and do zero damage – and this works both with condis or as a power phanstasm build, 3) skill failure – the skill failure rate on a mesmer is unbelievable – the number of times blink does not work, or decoy does not make you invisible, or the phantasmal duelists refuses to spawn, or magic bullet fails to fire, or mind stab does not execute, or you fail to swap with illusionary leap or the immobilization fails, is uncanny… not to mention the failure of some of the additional buffs that are supposed to work – many a time I have cast null field and a warrior or guardian has maintained their buffs or I am still covered in conditions.

100% agree with the original post – sick of getting rubbish spikes from killing players. Also make it so that you are guaranteed a boh for each player you kill. As someone who spends most of their time solo roaming and scouting, getting boh for building siege is a nightmare… I keep having to take week holidays in eotm. Funny how the people who would benefit the most from boh seem to get them least in drops.

I just completed crafting yet another character with full ascended set (around 1000 gold cost, armor materials are kitten costly), 10k badges still left after buying tons of badges. I don’t do dungeon farm, I haven’t done a single achievement point of Living Story 2 and I seriously dislike EotM, but solo roaming and scouting vs SFR… that is where the loot is! I made around 1000 gold / 2 months, just few hours per day. Even Vizunah Square never gave this good loot!
Yeh… that’s because it is much more difficult to kill someone from SFR so the loot reflects that… killing Deso just gives you lots of spikes and if you are lucky a glob of globby gloop.

100% support this… I play a mesmer and I think we have the only elite skill that actually buffs the enemy and helps them kill you – aka moa – lucky for us most people panic and run away but even those that run away get a speed boost from the skill.

how would you determine who is a good player and who is a poor player?
At the moment the players with the most skills – aka solo roamers – tend to have the fewest wvw ranks… while those who run skill 1 in large blobs have the highest ranks.
Not to mention the differences in class… warriors, guardians, elementalists and other classes that can tag multiple targets on average rank up faster than classes such as mesmers that do very little damage – although lots of people qq about them, it actually takes a lot longer and a lot more skill to kill people on a mesmer than it does a warrior and that is not including the number of skills that fail on a mesmer during a fight (for example, I was fighting a thief the other day and every single skill I had failed in the first engagement – leaving me with almost no skills to fight with except dodge and shatter – until my skill bars recharged, in the end the thief ran away from me).

Siege disabler trap was the worst addition to WvW ever.
removing the lake for bloodlust was a worse move imo. It is not that I don’t mind bloodlust, I just think it would’ve been better had the objectives been underwater and a bit more creativity involved in expanding underwater combat.
Siege disable traps are actually quite useful for attacking as well as defending. I wouldn’t mind if they were taken out of the game, but if you are going to keep them then they should be there to counter the buffs given to golems.

either just remove it from the game or swap the times around so that golems get disabled longer than other siege. The biggest problems for defenders is causing a delay against an omega golem rush.

SFR were fighting for no.1 spot when we were a medium server. Even now we are outnumbered much of the time on borderlands and it is only really ebg that has a queue. On a night time, we have no NA guilds… most of the time we are 15 outnumbered people who are sacrificing a bit of sleep to win and it is down to strategy.
You don’t need numbers to win the points game. You just got to play smart.

I mean, are you suggesting that Scouts are solo-building siege at a rate significantly faster than 1 piece of siege per minute?
And “small group ninja roamers”; how small is this group? Let’s say 5 people, for example: it is MUCH easier for small groups like this to coordinate throwing out siege than it is for large (20+) groups, so your small roaming group could have, say, 2 people throwing down siege instead of one. This would allow you “small ninja roamers” group to throw out 6 pieces of siege every 3 minutes, more than enough for 5 people to get into a Tower or Keep. Get to an Inner Door of a Keep and needs more rams? Have a 3rd person throw down siege. now your up to 9 pieces of siege every 3 minutes, which should be easily enough for even a larger, 10-man “ninja group”, much less the smaller 5-man group I was using in the example.
What sort of problems, specifically, do you forsee for scouts or smaller roaming groups?
the purpose of this thread is to stop solo troll siege builders wasting supply and maxing siege for the map… so if it does not affect the solo scout siege builder or the small group roamers then it is not doing what is intended.

outside of ebg and eotm… blobs are not that much of a problem anymore. People might talking about blob this and the other but most of the time it is only 20 people.
While I appreciate the sentiment of the idea… the biggest problem I see is that it would punish people who rush to defend garrison or ebg keep. The enemy server could attack several places at once with groups of 10-20 players and the defenders would be punished even if they are actually outnumbered.

Put the character’s name on it.
If you see X’s Trebuchet Build Site when everyone’s putting down Flame Rams, you’ll know exactly who’s responsible.
Have a report function specifically for this issue, get X reports in Y amount of time, and you get a cooldown period where you can’t deploy siege. You can still build and operate siege normally. You just can’t deploy it.

there must be hundreds of threads discussing this topic… I’ve started several myself in the last 2 years.
Exhaustion is a bad idea because most of the time the laying of defensive siege falls down to a handful of scouts while offensive siege is placed by commanders to stop everyone dropping rams at the gate.
The best suggestions from the threads can be summed as:
No timers on siege but instead siege can be destroyed by friendly players or captured by the enemy and used against you
The problem with this is that you run the risk of reaching the max limit on siege quickly if people don’t destroy their rams and catapults after taking places… but then if they don’t destroy their siege after taking somewhere then the enemy could capture that siege and use it themselves to take back the place. Another problem is that you could then get trolls destroying siege instead of just building it and it does not really stop the troll building siege either.
I can only think of two options… 1) a mechanism in which we can report trolls and cheats – that can be used on dead players and when you are dead… 2) a verification system whereby you have to be verified by the server to take supply, build siege, (destroy siege)… and this can be extended to commanding too.
We want to move away from option 1… so how do we do option 2.
Most servers I assume have an recognised alliance leader – SFR it is Kresh – those that don’t need to elect one. The alliance leader then approves who can act as admin on the server – give these people a green commander tag. Then the green commanders and alliance leader can approve people to build siege and take supply but also have the power to remove that privilege too. People would still be allowed to command using the other colour tags but only green commanders have the power to approve siege builders and supply takers and the green commanders will be the server’s recognised official commanders/admin. SO basically, you are handing out limited GM power to the servers to create their own administration and police themselves.
The problem would then be how do you elect and deselect the server leader.

I have some ideas about golems…
1) Nerf Omegas to be exactly the same as alphas but with more power and armor
2) Nerf golems so that they can only attack gates
3) Change the golem mastery to do the following for both alphas and omegas
1 point = golem moves faster
2 point = golem can hit walls
3 point = golem gains ranged missiles
4 point = golem gains defensive bubble that only affects golem
5 point = safe ejection for user
So while there is an initial nerf for omegas… using mastery restores those nerfs but also boosts alpha golems.
Then just scrap the siege disablers completely or if you really want to keep something similar change them to golem traps – a trap that can be placed in the same way as supply removal or stealth removal… the trap then disables the golem for 30 seconds.

the disablers were only introduced to counter the insane buffs they have given golems… the one thing that needed no buffs… and then they go and make the disablement of golems less than half of everything else.
They are designed not to hinder golem rushes but to actually boost them… you can now disable all siege that can be used to attack an omega golem and if the defender throws a disabler at the golem not only will only work for less than half the time their own siege is disabled but the golem can actually reflect it.
Which brings me to attackers using other siege like catapults… the disabler can be reflected.
The entire thing was a bad idea but there is no way that Anet are going to admit they made a mistake.

Another qq warrior – spend a year invincible in wvw and when a patch comes out that gives one of the weakest classes in the game a chance to actually do some damage to a warrior they cry about how OP mesmers are….
sorry but that is complete rubbish… I can wear full berz gear and have all my weapons and stats set to maximum damage and not even move the health bar of a warrior. The only way to possibly do any damage to a warrior is to use conditions or spend 40 minutes dodging and hitting without being hit in return.
And running in zergs the class that repeatedly gets the least amount of loot and wxp is the mesmer.
If you can’t be bothered to target your attacker and re-target after they come out of cloak then you deserve to die like the noob you are… mesmers are the least loved class in GW. The skill fail-rate on a mesmer is unbelievable and it is the only class in the game that has an elite that buffs the player they are fighting and can kill them if the person being turned into a moa keeps their wits instead of running in panic.
The patch actually nerfed quite a few mesmer things and the only buff they got was on a scepter that has just as much chance to kill the mesmer than it has to kill their foe. But then we don’t expect people who qq about mesmers to know how to play the game.

The last update really stuck it to defenders… nerfing banner rez, buffing golems, and one only need look at the siege disable trap to sum up the direction wvw is heading…
“The trick disables the use of enemy siege equipment for 45 seconds and piloted golems for 20 seconds”
In other words… you can disable defensive canons, ac, and ballista for more than twice as long as you can disable the offensive golem rush.
At the very least… all siege regardless of whether it is golems or not should be disabled for the same length of time.
Seriously…. without people defending structures the game will descend into eotm-style karma blobs.

Funny… I am finding almost the opposite to be true too… golem rush… ppl throw disabler at the canons before taking them out.
The whole thing between golems and disablers is messed up and has not been properly considered by whoever dreamed up the idea. I think in the overall picture the patch favours the attacker more than the defender.

However, we all know that the only way to boost the performance of npc guards in towers, camps, etc. is to change their armor from light to heavy… it is all a matter of the weight of their armor… so next time you need to talk to Champion Commander Siegerazer for a long weight which you can then use to boost the armor of your npcs.

I think it is a terrible idea to buff golems even more… what they should’ve done was nerf omega golems and then undo the nerfs with the golem mastery tract. So a full mastery will allow you to play golems as they are played now… without the mastery you have to suffer some nerfs. Omegas are already over buffed and to introduce a ‘trap’-like counter to golem rushes that costs people to purchase and can just as easily disable your siege is tipping the balance of the game in favour of the attacker and making it pointless to upgrade and defend places – aka welcome eotm to wvw.
I think it has been poorly thought out. I also think the rumoured skill changes have not been considered properly either. It leaves the impression that the people making these choices are not really qualified to make them.

that is the trade off… if you take good equipment then you have an edge to win but more to lose… if you take poor equipment you reduce your odds of winning but have less to lose.
With my idea…
I would also make it a one time entry per week… once you die, you can’t re-enter the area for a week.
Eventually, what will happen is that you will have guild groups co-ordinating on teamspeak to complete the boss and take it in turns of taking the chest… but you will have rival guilds… so you will end up with a multi-gvg.

I don’t think this should be in wvw but I’ve always wanted since GW1 a high end area with high risks and high rewards with exactly this feature… but I think it should be a pvp-style dungeon… so that it is a mix of pve and pvp – if you get to the end chest you get a legendary but it is a free for all – no parties allowed everyone can kill anyone. In order to get the chest, however, there needs to be some sort of co-operation to kill some boss or something but only one person can open the chest per week – so after the boss is dead then it is a free for all fight. If you die you lose one piece of armor or a weapon – regardless of how expensive it is – take a rubbish weapon and you might not win… take a good weapon and you may lose it… but you may also pick up a lot of good loot too.

The only place on SFR that has a que is ebg.
As for recruiting… we are only actively recruiting ONE NA based guild of about 20 players… so that we have a bit more organisation between 3am-5am GMT when Deso have their 60+ garri and ebg keep golem rush. At the moment we have 15 people fighting ROCK, GH, and pugs.
Even with a single NA guild we will be outnumbered against the Deso night cap… but we don’t need equal or more numbers to beat Deso during the night… 15 of us can hold garrison against 60+ Deso with omegas… 35 of us can hold the borderland and ebg.

Still looking for more wvw point focused players. Currently we have near on 24/7 wvw coverage with small group raids. We also have a full guild raid at least once a day (sometimes twice a day). 156 members pvx – at time of posting we have 30 online – 15 in wvw roaming in 3 groups on two maps, 5 in spvp, and 10 in pve environment.
We love fights… but we don’t take our eye off the points. We don’t just fight for fun… we fight to win.

The WvW team is actually one guy who usually works on the gem store, but occasionally during his free time he messes around with adding stuff to WvW.
1 year of development, a single siege mastery, 3 woooah colours for the commander tag and a 1200 range grenade that disables siege in a 450 radius. Haha.

worse parts of playing a mesmer…
1) skill failure… in every encounter I have, there is at least 1 skill failure – normally it is illusionary leap… but it can literally be anything – at the moment I getting a lot of decoy skill failure – especially if trying to recloak after coming out of invisibility from another skill.
2) SLOW – mesmers are so slow… you can get by this using a focus or traveler runes but that limits your build options. For a class that has light armor then they should move faster than they do – it is easier for other classes to run away from you when they are losing
3) lack of damage… mesmers do not do a lot of damage. I can hit a warrior with maximum damage output and barely scratch them.
4) When it comes to zerg fighting you don’t get much loot and your role is limited.
The best thing about playing a mesmer is that it is challenging… especially if you try and stay away from the traditional builds. You can get some very good 1v1 fights.
Mesmer is also very good for scouting keeps… you can get about the keep very quickly with blink and portals for running supply, building and refreshing siege and checking gates.
With the right build you can solo supply camps quickly too.

Hey guys, I wanted to pop in and make a few points about the siege disabler.
- This is a thrown projectile, and as such, can be countered by abilities that block or reflect projectiles (Shield of Absorption, Swirling Winds, etc)
- It has a ~5silver, 10 supply and 15 badge cost. This cost coupled with the above point, will likely limit the amount that these items are used to important tactical plays.
- Siege is not permanently disabled, the disabler is just meant to open up a window of opportunity. Players may choose to spread their siege out more to be less vulnerable to this tactic.
- As you are probably aware, we are adding Golem Mastery in the same update. This provides a new, viable option for countering a golem rush.
- The traps we’ve added in the past, have seen low use. So we intentionally created this trick to be a bit on the stronger side. However, it’s still hard to say exactly how it will play out in the live game, but if it ends up hurting gameplay more than helping it we are open to adjusting it in the future.
So does Anet plan to increase the range of siege so that it can be ‘spread out’ – does it plan to create more places where siege can be positioned?
If this item can be repelled by reflections then how do you plan to deploy it against golem and catapult shields?
Instead of coming up with something that is going to harm defenders more than it is going to harm attackers… why not just scrap the golem trait idea which every single defender in the game is against?
Do you know how difficult it is to defend places as it is? We don’t need more attack options, we need legitimate defense options. It is already an uphill battle trying to get people to build siege, upgrade places, and REFRESH siege.
If your mission is to turn wvw into eotm with megaservers then you are going the right way. If you actually want to improve the game play of the people who play wvw then come and talk to us before introducing any more silly ideas… we have a load of ideas for you if you will listen to us. OR at the very least come and play wvw on a number of different servers 5-8 hours per day, every day of the week… at a variety of different times during the day and then you might have some insight into the game you have created and what needs to change to make it better.
Taking suggestions from these forums is not going to help… too many inexperienced players wanting to make the game easier for them instead of spending time and effort in learning to play… you need to come and talk to the hard core wvw players… and that means coming to the top server websites and teamspeak to talk to us – not just NA servers either… but EU servers too.

It might be a good idea if you gave us some more info about what you are hoping to achieve with this and how did you arrive at the capabilities ie. time disabled, size of the aoe.
To this, and to any other question about details : don’t forget that we know of this new tricks (and commander colors) because of gamescon “leaks”.
There will probably be a blog post during the week, like there will be one for each part of the feature pack. Which means, explanation about what they are hopping to achieve, and hopefully more details about how it will work.
Well the only way that this is going to work is if they rename it ‘Golem Trap’ and it only applies to golems. Otherwise this and the golem trait upgrade is going to destroy wvw by making it a complete waste of time trying to defend objectives… wvw will become eotm and then Anet will create mega-servers for wvw.
I can’t believe how a company can take the greatest feature of their own product and systematically destroy it.
The wvw designers seriously need to talk with and LISTEN to the people who play wvw the most… that is talking to people from SFR, Kodash, Desolation, SoS, TC, JQ, and BG – not just one server, but people from all the top servers… I am positive that they all have their own webforums for the server where they can enter into conversation with us.

Playing the game as it is meant to be played
There are a small minority of players spread out on different servers who want to play wvw as it is meant to be played…
that is defending keeps with siege and taking keeps with siege. While enjoying fights, they don’t lose sight that ultimately what decides the winning server are the points gained from holding and taking structures.
In short… there are a minority of players who like siege battles.
To get these battles requires a lot of patience of scouting a main keep, building siege and keeping that siege refreshed for when the enemy zerg attacks with golems, rams, catapults and trebs… people who like playing with siege and defending places are not common in a world dominated by pvd karma trains and people who believe that the only good thing in wvw is an open field guild vs guild fight. People are entitled to play the game as they like… but I am interest in the people who like spending time building siege and defending… the people who know all the best ninja spots for taking a keep… the people who know all the counter siege places… these are the people I am looking for. People who enjoy a good fight but don’t lose sight that the best fights are when you are fighting for something – whether it be a keep or points.
Teh Forsaken Gods [Hell] are an SFR based international pvx guild with 24/7 coverage. absolutely zero problem doing this on my mesmer last night. I used a GS and sword/pistol power build with traits set to optimise phantasms.
Try using a build that is not shatter for a change… much more fun to play.

I don’t do a lot of pve stuff… I spend nearly all my time in wvw but sometimes we run out of people to kill and eotm is all one colour… so it is off to pve for a bit to allow our foes to recover.
SO… I do this living story thing and do the third part of the story last night and get my reward bag for getting the achievement… I never expect much from these rewards but usually I get a couple of rare materials and some green weapons to salvage for luck points.
BUT… this time I get 8 globs of globby goop (junk) – seriously Anet? That is the reward for doing that achievement?
I’ve been playing this game since Beta and have yet to get a precursor… then I see people who get three precursors in one week… but to get 8 globs of globby goop for an achievement reward is taking the kitten.

I don’t go into eotm very often – perhaps an hour here and there to get some boh to buy more siege for proper wvw…. but my experience is normally like this…
Red are being hammered by green… blue try to take green… red just tries to retake everything it loses. Green dominates all.
This week is slightly different because SFR got given red for a change instead of their usual green. I have not been in eotm this week other than to access my guild catapults so that I can start new ones… but my guess is that red is making a bigger fight of things than normal because of the SFR presence.

At 4am you are not going up against any SFR blob… more likely there are 5 players defending garrison against 20+ Deso.
In fact… at just about any time on a borderland that is not ebg you are not facing anything close to a blob unless you get to inner garrison during SFR prime-time and the entire server is called to defend.
But… back to the original OP… your friend should’ve chosen to try the game when it wasn’t Deso’s prime-time.

It is not just about numbers… Deso out numbered SFR for all but 2 hours every day during the tournament and we still won. They still out number us most of the time and we still beat them.
At the end of the day it comes down to commitment… it is not that we have more players or better coverage… it is because we have enough players who are willing to go without sleep to win. …and when you have players spending 12+ hours a day, every day, doing nothing but wvw… you tend to become better than the opposition and win the majority of your fights.
Numbers and coverage do play a role but they are not always the main reason why a server wins.

We need a title track and wxp for refreshing siege.
Each time you refresh some siege you get some karma, xp, and wxp. Refresh x-amount of siege and get some flashy title and a reward chest at regular intervals.
