How will raids actually require Ascended?

Ascended what, though? Berserker? Sinister? Rabid? Soldier? Celestial?

This.

In all examples it seems ppl compare full berserker sets. Is that a requirement now, even though Anet talks about moving away from all zerker parties?

Full exotics berserker will deal more damage than full ascended celestial if you count direct damage only.

Holding down mouse 1 in the new mode is the equivalent of auto-casting. Letting it go makes you stop attacking, yes, but it does not cancel skills mid-channel, which is what sword needs to be able to dodge.

It’s just an alternative to the current workaround of turning off auto-cast on 1 for those that will use that camera mode.

Hm, ok, so it will still run the whole chain from one single press of mb#1?

Ranger Bugs (Updated)

Pets sometimes have difficulty attacking structures – seemingly random

Appears to me to be pet-based. For example, the Shark will never attack UW structures.

I need a list of pets affected though – I realize this is a considerable time investment.

You can sometimes work around this by going melee and attack said object from melee yourself. It’s a bug nonetheless.

I think the solution, at least to sword#1, will come with the new camera mode

Doubt it.

Depends on what you think is the issue with sword#1; is it the fact that you stick to your target, or that you can’t dodge on demand?

If it is the latter, that should be solved with the camera mode, since you’ll stop attacking the moment you let go of mouse 1, if I have understood things correctly.

Always think premptively. If you have auto-attack off, you’ll need thinkabout 1 second ahead. If you have auto-attack on, forget trying to dodge and just start typing “Working as intended” in party chat.

So you’ve thought 1 second ahead, what should you do?

While that is nice and all after you’ve learnt the encounter, that also explains perfectly well the main issue with sword – it won’t let you react to things like you can with all other weapons in the game. Even sword#2 sucks in that regard because of that delay before jumping back. Evades needs to be instant.

I think the solution, at least to sword#1, will come with the new camera mode, because you will have to press mouse 1 to use your weapons regular auto attack. As soon as you release the button, your character will stop attacking.
While this can be done through macros, having it supported natively in the game will be very nice.

As we hurtle toward launch most of my time is locked into Druid and Scrapper changes.

After much tribulation I was able to make a change to WHAO to remove the static boon stack application on Might and Stability stacks being copied; this was actually a fairly difficult change to implement as we don’t really have support for copying boons with preset durations.

This’ll go in with the 23rd.

Post BWE3 Druid Changes

OGDeadHead.8326

I think you could really work some more pet synergy into the druid traits and/or skills. Just to name one example: the pet could help generate Astral Force when it’s attacking or when using the F2 skill. Add pet healing power to one of the minor traits, to make our pets capable of healing a more interesting choice (moas, fern hound).

Things like that, stuff that doesn’t make the druid traitline feel so isolated from the rest of the class.

"Sic 'Em!" is useless.

OGDeadHead.8326

That’s why you use it AFTER F2, to stick the pet to the enemy (who, if a thief or mesmer, is likely to want to escape to stealth after being hit by a BM F2). Sic ‘Em is a pet command shout, all pet commands override each other, it’s nothing specific to Sic ’Em.

I want to empower birds, cats, drakes, spiders F2, not their autoattack, but i can’t.

I was under the impression that shouts and commands interrupted sic em but sic em did not interrupt commands. Is this not true? Would your bird not receive benefit if you simply commanded it and then used sick mid animation?

If I remember correctly, sic em interrupts F2 as well as the opposite. Works good with jaguar, but that’s about the only animal. Been a while since I used it, so will have to test.

Do you honestly believe that even 1000+ healing power will be needed for raids, to be of any use as a druid?
If that’s the case, I would say Anet screwed up big time.

With healing power of 1000+ I would think you would overheal A LOT, and overhealing = healing wasted. If you want to heal someone for 3000 health to get them up to full, and you heal for 9000, that’s just wasted effort. Unlike dps, which you never can get too much of, when it comes to healing, you sure can go way over the top of what’s actually needed. Not only do you kitten yourself by going for insane amount of healing power, the fact is you will contribute far less to the overall performance of your raid/team because you will kitten your dps by far too much by going so single handedly after the maximum healing potential that you can get.

That’s 640 aoe healing every 5s with max healing power for a druid (1800 – excludes life sigil and external sources). If you have 50% outgoing healing % from various sources, that’s almost 1k every 5s. Really helps with healing.

Fortifying Bond - Make it baseline?

in Ranger

Posted by: OGDeadHead.8326

OGDeadHead.8326

My personal favorite approach to a baseline Fortifying Bond isn’t the fixed-duration boon-copying approach the actual trait uses, but a new system entirely for handling Ranger and pet boons. I can’t remember where I saw it, but I’ve mentioned it myself in other topics. X)

Essentially, any boons applied to the Ranger or the pet goes to a pool that they both share. If the Ranger gets a boon, the pet gets exactly the same boon themselves, and if the pet gets a boon, it similarly goes to the Ranger. If both are caught in one boon application, it’s only applied once. Such an approach lets the Ranger send their pet into a boon-stacking group while staying back themselves if need be, or lets the pet stay back for whatever reason while the Ranger fights with the group.

Just seems like a much more straightforward and reliable system.

Sounds very reasonable to me. Simple, elegant and straightforward as you said. +1

I don’t really like the idea of pet giving Ranger Boons.
It pushes everyone else on ranged backwards. And it sounds really complicated.

Rangers already are the best Ranged DPS. Making it profit from 100% of melee stacking boons is wrong if we are talking about balance.
Just let the pet be the promised 30% DPS. That’s all we really need to be the DPS specialization. We already have the support options.

I understand what you’re saying, but at the same time we’ve been told that we more or less have to be in melee range and stack, like everyone else, because if we don’t, we won’t get the buffs everyone else gets, and thereby, we’re not dealing optimal dps.

I say screw the melee stacking, it’s boring as hell. This is probably the only mmo I’ve played that forces everyone into melee, if they don’t they are not optimal to the group. There’s no need for ranged support – stack in melee, go full berzerk or get the hell out. That’s the name of the game.

And no, the game, when using stacking tactics, isn’t in any way harder than fighting from range. That is a myth.

The only thing that needs to be changed about the AA is it needs to break the animation easier when dodging or using the #2&3 skills.

This. Only this. Dodge and evade skills to override anything = issue solved.

Thing is, developers already stated that motion skill cannot be interrupted by dodging, so I dont’t think we can have the best of two worlds. I’d rather have a sword AA without leaps than being rooted and unable to dodge.

I’ve suggested this before, and will try again:

When you swap weapons, you instantly abort any animation chain. Grab that code, don’t include the weapon swap part, put it first in the dodge code and voila – issue solved!

Of course they can fix this, one way or another, but they don’t want to. Best would be to let dodge and evade mechanics override any other action instantly, instead of changing the sword mechanic.

If they add tagging and participation algorithms for purely healing people, sure, that would be fine.

If it were possible, it would be good if you could do both, target an ally for heals and damage foes around that ally or target a foe for damage and heal allies around that foe.

I used to play this wonderful mmo called Vanguard, which allowed just that – targeting enemies and allies, at the same time mind you. Of course in that game you hade offensive as well as defensive skills meant for these specific purposes.

“Here’s a list of new stuff we’ve got going as we draw closer to launch. Traps are gaining a functionality and are branching out just a tad bit, granting boons to the guardian when the trap is triggered.
