Have any of you people ever played Guild Wars 1? Did you know that our Black Widow was in Underworld and took a long time to get due to all the quest and keeping the reapers alive. How about that Phoenix that was not possible to get until you killed Shiro Tagachi? How about that Rainbow Phoenix that required you get to get so many titles, HoM, etc? How about them special Wintersday Pets that you had to complete quest line in order to unlock and tame? earn this pet and stop acting like you should have everything handed to you on a silver platter. i think it is more of a rewarding feeling when you can complete something and get the pet as part of the reward.

There’s a big difference between pets in GW2.

As for earning the pet, I don’t comment on that, people have different opinions, which is fine, and noones opinion is more “right” than anyone else’s.
I do acknowledge there are issues for mainly wvw players when it comes to the aqusition of pets though.

Taunt on Glyph of Unity?

Since I haven’t been paying close attention to this one, how much damage will this glyph deal? The same amount that I recieve or what?

The glyph deals a set amount of damage per damage tick you receive. I find it incredibly underwhelming for 99% of encounters, especially in PvE, which has hard-hitting but slow enemies—many of whom will knock you back and break the “chain”. It would benefit from some other utility, such as damage mitigation or Stability (since we have to give up our best Stability-granting skills to use it), considering it has the potential do 0 damage (especially if you are knocked back, or enemies teleport/leap backwards/dodge) on a 30 second cooldown (24 traited). Currently, it does not compare favorably at all to our other elite utilities.

When I use it, it’s mostly vs small, numerous and fast hitting critters like the raptors for example.

Remorseless Druid

Yeah, tiger is absolutely wonderful with remorseless. I get the feeling this pet was made with that trait in mind. Furious pounce base damage + 25% from remorseless, +50% hilt bash, +25% SotW, +40% Sic’ em… If you manage to land that… BAM! Stack some might for even more fun times!

I guess combining the two skills into one is out of the question? Without a target, just create a smokefield @ current location, with no attack. With a target, create smokefield @ targets location. Make both camps happy?

So a map-wide event with multiple layers, multiple bosses and multiple stages with a complexity never seen before in this game, littered with deadly enemies is no indicator that the new maps are meant to be slightly harder?

I guess it’s just pointless to argue with you, if you’re not even able to see the obvious. And the pets are where they belong: gated behind challenging content as the reward at the end.

Again, if you don’t like it, suck it up or leave.

You can be the best kitten gamer there ever was, a God Walking Amongst Mere Mortals, if the players around you are not good enough, you will never get these pets, since it’s simply impossible on your own, afaik.

(Also, HoTs not that difficult. It’s more or less variations of The Silverwastes)

This pet needs mobility, not just that. Please take a look on my topic, how weak our pets are. I’ll also make moving data today, and point out how importent is that pets are buffed to smokescale level. Keep an eye on ranger forum.

I love the shadowstep-like attack of Smoke Assault, best pet attack ever. I would love to have a similar shadowstep ability on one of our shouts…

Going to be investigating this. It may require some change to Smoke Assault, since the active skills are intended to be a little stronger than the passive skills.

I love Smoke Assault, and I get the feeling you will be nerfing it even further in order to put Smoke cloud back on F2, either by lowering the damage (again) or put it on a much longer cooldown. Don’t! Just don’t!

As much as I love the utility of a smoke field, I don’t use it that much to warrant another nerf to Smoke Assault. Then again, a random smoke field doesn’t make much sense, and is pretty much useless (the added ability that the pet evades during the skill and are immune to incoming conditions is ofc pretty nice though).

Imho, just swap the skills around, but leave everything else working the same way they do now (or add something more to the smoke cloud skill, should it go back to F2).

These additional pets are not equivalent to a virtue as a Guardian or a shatter as a Mesmer. What they are equivilant too is a new black dye. It basically accomplishes the same thing but with slight variation.

I don’t really agree with your comparison, making it out to be just a difference in the looks. Thankfully in this game there’s a pretty big difference between the pets.

As for the tiger, it has the hardest hitting F2 attack of any pet out there if we talk about a single attack. It’s a pet made for a remorseless build, boosted with Hilt Bash, Signet of the Wild and Sic’em.
A tiger buffed with the things mentioned above opens up with a +13k hit on heavy golem, and oneshots the Light golem (more than 16k damage).

So no, your argument comparing the new pets to black dye is pretty flawed, imho.

Yeah but usually if I go into my Hero panel, the damage/condition damage increase can be seen in the stats. Or am I here completely wrong?

Afaik, for flat damage increasing buffs, you don’t see that. Regular boons like might and fury on the other hand…

I think it’s fine with hard content to get some stuff, as long as it doesn’t require hundreds of other players. Imho all pets should be possible to get solo, possibly with a full group as the max requirement for some.

The best event chain I’ve ever done in an mmo was in Vanguard (rip),a quest chain to get our flying griffons. It was a long, long quest, and some parts were really difficult and it took an organized group to pull it off, but it was enough to have a group of 5 (?) people complete it. The sense of achievement upon completion was great! And much more so in fact compared to the 20 man raids I took part of every week.

When things start to require the size of raids to get things that are more or less a core mechanic, especially since in this game this “spills over” into the competitive scene of wvw, I don’t necessarily agree with the decisions made in HoT.

Were this only a pve game then I wouldn’t really care, but it isn’t.

with hitting allies on the move with Ca1 and CA2 I’ll agree – these works only when you have allies that does not run like headless chicken around….

This game is a lot about movement, which is one thing I really like about GW2, so it’s not likely other players will stop with that lol!

A bigger radius to #1 and #2 would solve a lot, since even if you try and predict where the guy you’re trying to land a heal on will be in the next milliseconds, a small change in direction from that ally will lead to you missing the heal.

In groups it not much of an issue (except for the moving around part, lol! skill #1 and #2 probably needs some work because of that).
It’s more in wvw and open world events, or if you play solo but hang around with others, and you want to help others with healing, it’s a bit clunky atm. It’s doable, but not obvious who might need your help.

I think Anet are reluctant to give us more visible health bars because they’ve previously said they don’t want us looking at the UI all the time and would rather us focus on enjoying the gameplay.

If the health bars were located @ the actual character, I wouldn’t think of it as “looking at the ui”.
On the other hand, I can see the issue with providing healthbars, next step show condition markers, next show how much vigor someone has, and so on…
It could quickly turn into something we don’t want. However, if things are able to be turned on/off, it would be a personal preference. Best thing of course would be if the actual game provides hints without the need for said bars. Currently, it doesn’t really.

It’s the best you can build for if you want to be able to perform decent in many areas, since you’ve got everything covered. Simply put, nothing beats celestial if you’re not interested in filling a very specific role.

Not sure the commander tag would be the solution. Being able to put some form of marker on you could be good though. But really, for big events I would love to have some sort of easy way to tell who are in need of healing other than mousing over players (even though that works decently when you get used to it).

Toggable health bars that’s been a suggestion could be a nice addition, and even better if you were allowed to set a health treshold for when they should pop up above someone.

If AF will remain, there are a number of things related to pets that could help increase it. I’m not sure I would want it locked only to their healing, but from their attacks as well.

Druid Astral Force Out-of-Combat Degeneration

My suggestions:

  • Allow us to go in and out of Celestial Avatar with no restrictions (possibly keep the cooldown when leaving the form) while above at least 10% Astral Force
  • Have the healing skills cost x amount of Astral Force
  • Increase the rate at which you can gain Astral Force
  • (Allow for AF regen/gain when in Avatar form somehow?)
  • Avatar skills 1, 2 and 4 should all of them have some offensive ‘thing’ added to them. Lunar impact is a perfect example of a well thought out skill imho. Same thing in regards to Natural Convergence, but the other way around – make it beneficial for allies near you somehow, pulse regen perhaps

I really like the gameplay of the druid, it’s the most fun I’ve ever had with a healer archetype in any game, much due to the positional requirements and active gameplay.

Keep tweaking and adding to it, to add to the fun aspect of the specialization, and it will be even better!

While you’re at it, please take a look at celestial form skill 1. In a fast moving game like GW2, this skill is a bit too difficult to land on your teammates due to the delay and very small radius. Even of you try to “lead” the skill were you predict your ally will be moving, one small change in direction and this skill will miss. Either make it instant on the location you aim for, or increase radius.

Also, in general, please consider a bit more synergy between ranger and pet in regards to the druid as a whole.

Although I’m pretty sure balance changes are already in the works, there’s basically none in the day 1 HoT patch despite feedback from BWE3 so presumably the balance patch is coming later.

Unless of course you’re a ranger, then you get nerfed even prior to HoT release, and then another nerf every few hour or so…

Q: Would it be a better alternative, to have the skills use a set amount of AF, instead of the decay?
If so, you could stay in the form for as long as you want, until you had used up all the energy and wouldn’t feel the rush to spam skills as fast as possible to actually use the energy you built up. As it is now, many times it feels so rushed that you just spam heals all over the place, there’s simply no time to make tactical decisions.

I’m sticking with celestial. With the staff focused on healing stats, I get +700 healingpower, which I find to be more than enough so far. It’s not that druids lack putting out enough healing, the issue with druid is that some of the skills (no#1 says hi) are a bit clunky to actually land on people before they’ve moved away. Skill 1 and 2 could use an increase in radius.

With celestial gear you can hold your own when it comes to damage, well covered in both power and condi, and decent crit chance and damage. Not to mention you got good toughness and health as well. I find it a perfect stat distribution for both support through healing, as well as solo roaming in HoT.

It should never revive the pet if its dead, at least in sPvP.

Eh say what? If the pet is defeated prior to you activating Lick Wounds it should revive the pet. This is clearly stated as such on the wiki, and it was also posted about from a dev way back. Where did you get this information from, especially the specific info in regards to pvp?

The elite specialization should only unlock the new class mechanics and associated traits
New weapon and new spells should go “baseline” for accounts with HoT.

You’re currently saying to waste a whole trait line slot for the sole purpose of taking a spell or a weapon.

I agree with this. Locking weapons so that they are unusable without a specific traitline is a mistake imho. Will probably be changed at some point.

everybody is like “It’s only a 5% increase on your dps”

do people realize that there are 10 players in your raid group? If you all have ascended gear, that’s a 50% dps increase as a GROUP

In all examples it seems ppl compare full berserker sets. Is that a requirement now, even though Anet talks about moving away from all zerker parties?

Yes. While Anet does talk about moving away from zerker/sinister builds, the raid content shown so far suggests otherwise.

Meaning it’s doable with full zerker, or a requirement to be able to do it within the time limit?
