Petless Power Ranger dps testing

OGDeadHead.8326

All the benchmarks are done on raid golems for consistency, that’s why it’s called a benchmark. I can come out and claim I’ve done a 3 million damage in a single hit with my Ranger (which is true) so it must be top DPS, but it’s not done under the same circumstances as the way in which we test DPS claims, so it is not a valid value for a DPS test.

This.

It would be interesting if they for once came out with official numbers, and their reasoning as to why class A should be able to deal so much higher damage than class B.

From my personal experience playing the demo’s I did not feel much if any difference between the 2 attack chains. Considering dagger has 1 more attack in its chain it did not feel particularly slow to me.

I’m not saying you’re wrong, I was just suggesting a testing method. Anyway, we’ll just have to wait for the expansion release and we’ll now for sure.

You don’t need to “Theorycraft” anything, all it takes is looking at the numbers.
Dagger=1/4+1/2+1/2+1/4
Sword=1/2+1/4+3/4
Exactly the same 1.5sec for both.
Dagger might look slower because the middle 2 swings both take half a second, but they really are not

Try this next time:

Start the autochain vs a golem or whatever. Run 10 complete #1 chains from each weapon – time them – compare.

Come back and post your results after that, not after looking at the wiki for cast times. Thanks.

What SoulBeast pets will you use?

in Ranger

OGDeadHead.8326

The trait is coded to activate at skill activation which means it will always work this way.

Yeah, unfortunately that’s the most likely scenario. When it comes to programming though, nothing is impossible, so if they wanted they could ‘fix’ this.

*

This could actually be a positive in some instances, imagine your cheetah is fighting somewhere and another enemy player is incoming, you swap target and press F2, the Cheetah taunts the player closest to it, then steps to the other, dragging the player away from you.

Yes I wrote about just that in another thread. While it could be useful, a taunt on location would imho be far more valuable.
There’s another solution to all this though, and that’s adding a short taunt/stun to the F2 attack. They can replace the Swiftness boon for all I care.

Please read or research things before assuming guys

I turn to the wiki primarily for information, and this forum and sometime reddit. Not easy to find info on this particular trait that clearly states that the way I thought it worked was wrong, right?

When your hp% is higher than your enemy your conditions on them last 10% longer and ALL damage you deal to them is increased by 10%.

That sounds really good that the trait also includes condi damage done!

Also, since OS apparently also includes condi damage, I have to ask if this also applies to Steady Focus? Maybe it’s just me, but for some reason I’ve always assumed when traits like these says “damage” plain and simple, I’ve always thought they only meant direct damage.

…this is mainly Anet’s fault for horrible tooltip not explaining the trait well enough.

Still, all this trait does is increase the condition duration instead of the damage.

Perhaps it increases both regular direct damage and condi damage? Speaking of bad tooltips, it only states “damage” in general terms. Condition damage is also damage, right? Would be worthy of GM status if it increased both AND condi duration.

How do you figure this?

Probably because most bosses worth mentioning have millions of health, so by the time this trait kicks in, the boss is dead anyway.

You are aware that this is based on % of health right, not actual amount..
If you are 100% hp and the boss is 99% you get the 10% dmg boost.

Likely the gazelle and the cheetah. Both offer decent personal abilities. One gives good CC/mobility. The other HAS high mobility and good damage. WIth soulbeast cats become more popular for me because its a bit easier to keep them alive.

Edit: And having a pet that can shadowstep after that thief on command would be REALLY nice.

If they allow taunt to be cast on the location the cheetah shadowsteps to, it will most likely be one of the pets I’ll use.

Poison is never useless, even if you have 0 condition damage.

Shared Anguish really should have a lower cd, since the effect is transferred to our pets, so incoming disables still affects us, just in a different way.

No, sadly. I wish it did, but using Tiger for raids is a big reason I wish it worked.
Its been tested thoroughly by myself as well as other players, the bug is even listed in wiki itself.
The only pets affected by quickness are the few I already mentioned.

This is actually a major bug, and since it’s hard a hard one to track if you don’t actually go in and look for issues with quickness, no wonder it haven’t been reported more, especially since it “only” seems to affect pets autoattack, quickness boosted F2 works just fine afaik (been a while since I used it).

It’s been listed to not affect pets regular attacks in the wiki since August 31, 2016, but may have been around since release, I can’t really remember.

It’s about time the devs look into it.

If they don’t want to have a public test server, they for sure needs to get a much bigger QA team, and they need to have more time to actually test and balance things.
The expansion is in a alpha/beta status right now – do they actually believe they’ll be able to fix all of this before release?

Juvenile cheetah + Beastly Warden trait:
Taunt needs to happen on the spot the cheetah shadowsteps to, not on the location they were on when activating their F2 (even though currently it may force enemies away from your location, it’s a niche function, and more logical would be to have it activate where the cheetah lands).

Edit: This probably should be looked upon on more pets, ranged ones for example- where exactly should the taunt activate?

If it isn’t a pet swap mechanic, will that also mean that if your pet was loaded up with conditions and at half health when you merged, it will come back in that state?

For years they were unable to store something as trivial as pet names. It seems very very improbable they’d actually manage to store a pet’s full health status with cooldowns, boons and conditions. Imho beastmode in/out will turn out to be a full pet reset.

Yeah, so that is then both a curse and a blessing imho.

If it isn’t a pet swap mechanic, will that also mean that if your pet was loaded up with conditions and at half health when you merged, it will come back in that state? If so, it should then also of course keep all boons they might have had. If not, we get another ‘save pet’ mechanic that instantly (more or less) brings our pet back to full health and clear of any negative effects. In practice, we got a third pet swap.

Also, what about pet skills and cd? Will they reset or not?

Datamined soulbeast traits

in Ranger

OGDeadHead.8326

I saw the traits in the wiki just now.

And so died the hope that shapeshifting might be one of the unrevealed ones.

That’s two for two in disappointing elite specs for ranger.

Considering how many different pets we already have and will get in the future, shapeshifting would have been too huge an undertaking to achieve visually. And why are some people so hung up on the whole shapeshifting thing anyway? I’m honestly curious here.

They want the game to sacrifice it’s identity so that they can play a ripoff WoW shrugs

Let’s not seriously pretend that our Druid wasn’t heavily inspired by WoW’s druid with it’s focus on healing and zapping moonbeams and lunar energy all over the place.

We even turn into a spirit wisp with our staff.

Are you sure it wasn’t DnD? Or literally any other Role-playing game even before the era of digital gaming that had Druids?

Even digital gaming… 1986? Actually, it was.

Okay, ya, some of these aren’t making to release.

Live Fast giving 3s of quickness with every beast skill when some have less than 10s cooldown? Swoop is a 1200 leap on a 10s cooldown. Nevermind the quickness on dagger 3.

Unstoppable union breaking stun and giving 4s of unblockable attacks every 10 seconds?

Getting “no cooldown ancient seeds” flashbacks here.

These sound way too good to last long at all in pvp.

Have you seen what other specs are getting?

Don’t forget it’s classic Anet behavior to make things in expansions OP to give people yet another reason to buy them. It’s been like this since GW1, and I don’t think they will change that.

As ususal, expect heavy nerfs to anything you see, somethings prior to release, but most of them after a couple of days/weeks/months.
What’s quite annoying though, is the very long time it takes them to go back to something they overnerfed, like Lingering Light.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

OGDeadHead.8326

I see a lot of things in this thread, ppl bashing OP, and ppl defending OP. This thread reminds me so much of the Confessor’s End thread a few months ago were the OP did NOT ask for tips from the community, but instead bashed the devs for the worst encounter ever, and how they were not able to complete it, not because of their own lack of skill but because of how terrible the encounter was.

That time, the poster claimed to be one of the top 10% skill-wise of the community, this time, the OP wants us to believe (s)he is a very skilled player because they run high level fractals.

No wonder threads like these makes people laugh. You have a problem with an encounter, you don’t ask for help/suggestions, but you rather bash the devs for your lack of skill, since you can’t handle things, the game must change for everyone.

Considering the self proclaimed “I’m good” mentality, were does that leave the rest of us that have no issues what so ever with these encounters? I mean, I must surely belong to the top 0.1% in this game since I never even went down, not in the Confessor’s End encounter and for sure not even close in this one. Feels nice, to know you’re one of the best players around!

*

Next time folks, don’t bash the content you can’t beat – try again and again and again, and if you still manage to fail – ask for help, don’t call for nerfs since it’s YOU who are lacking the skills needed!
