We already have free-to-play accounts wasting supply across every server. This is similar to doctors trying to cure cancer by injecting a patient with the AIDS.

Roamers already do good by taking camps and setting up solo-cataing of towers.

It would be easy enough to move all the camp guards closer to the center, so you’d always have to fight all of them to flip a camp. But to be clear, you guys are arguing that you want to do ‘more PvE’, which seems to go against the forum’s current agenda of ‘less PvE.’

Smart thinking. I’m liking the new direction Anet is taking.

The notion of WvW players loving PvE may have been some metric that Wvw players did a lot of PvE. This was so they could farm gold and guild commendations for gear. Good to see Anet now has large brains behind them to see rationale through “some” community input. The guy talking in all-caps in this thread about something irrelevant, not so much.

The best part of Wvw is the zerg combat and what has lured people to it ever since the release of the game. Almost every youtube video of Wvw is of fights and not Pve aspects. With this conglomerate of evidence you guys are taking the correct direction.

We’re currently resting at a ~2.48 kill-to-death ratio. This is after reset without the use of troll siege at your spawn or banners. This is also the highest kdr in both NA and EU servers. Maguuma has been known as a server with quality players over quantity throughout the years. Having equal numbers is understandable that you’re being farmed. The wall of ballistas at your spawn was a message that we owned you rather than anything to do with your intelligence. All in good fun at your expense.

With the roaming I have never lost a 1v1 to any person from either Darkhaven nor SoS. Which mind you is expected as I play an over-powered class (non-expansion warrior). This week you will be farmed again. The only way to ease the passing is to stop ppt’ing. You don’t want to be like SoS who told their guilds in TS to run away from Mag guilds in order to get rid of us through boredom. This is so they could PvD/PvE with no contention. This plan is flawed as being scared PPT rats will only prolong the ownage. Just give up with the ppt. Darkhaven has the right idea of going for fights only.

How is WvW on SBI?

Is WvW on SBI kind of weak now?

50/50 chance they’ll be getting swapped out with Darkhaven for the tier 3 matchup to be farmed by Maguuma for bags. Last week SBI came in 3rd for server score and had something around 10,000 more deaths than they had kills. Weak would be the correct adjective.

This is similar to an issue with Diablo 3. People complained that their gear/builds did not feel special due to being able to change their setup any time. In Diablo 2 you had to remake your character just to replace a few stat points. Many people did, and had fun doing it. Also removing the need to buy your own gear in Wvw removes a gold sink which may mess up the economy.

Spawn camping only occurs when you win literally 0 of your fights. All you had to do was wipe us once to regain control. We have to run across the entire map while you’re right there.

I like how you have a convenient picture that shows what you want to make your point. It was more than 15-16 roamers. It did vary depending on the time of day, but it was usually more than 15-16. “Vastly outskilled” is even more of a joke considering that you all basically blob everything you do and then thump your chest and jump on players because you (in such an elite manor) were able to melt them 30 vs. 5-6.

You all have numbers in your favor and you use them. Fine… it’s legit. However, let us not call a bunch of spawn camping trolls who have nothing else better to do then farm bags while frustrating an entire server skilled. It’s a poor way to play and I really don’t care if it’s the normal thing to do or not.

The other server always looks like they have more numbers than they really due. This is from the red names being really long, effectively giving a larger name cloud.

There were times where your spawn outnumbered the spawn campers. Had to have either VR or PCP help out to reclaim our position in front of your legendary defenders.

Don’t get the wrong idea. We’re very aware when we have more numbers in a fight. We only get kicks when we beat you when we’re outnumbered. Or spawn camping.

My T3 experience so far… watching us go neck and neck with Maguuma and SOS. Then watching Maguuma pull out gigantic server blobs to run the map and spawn camp us for about two to three days so as to get enough of a lead where they felt we were no longer a threat and then back off. Watching them siege our spawn while spawn camping. Watching them put an emergency waypoint on our keep to spawn camp us. Watching Maguuma pull gigantic blobs whenever they feel like they can’t retrieve an objective with some of their faceroll easy melt roamer compositions. T3 has been a blast. I can’t understand why more people don’t play World vs. World…

Nice attempt to ruin Mag’s pristine reputation. DH was being spawn camped by at most 15-16 roamers who vastly outskilled you. To give you credit by the third day your remainder players were getting pretty good at pirate-shipping. Downed a few of us

I was seeing that on people who weren’t in downed states, didn’t come up from downed states either, over and over …I’ve never seen anything like it before…is this a new feature ? and if so, what’s the build that causes this god mode ?

they were constantly going invulnerable. and I mean lots of people were going invulnerable. Not just one profession.

If you’re talking about at Maguuma’s spawncamping of DH (by your other posts you are) this was me doing this. Was using our turtle banner off of respawn which gives a spammable block bubble, a 4 skill which slows your skills (gives us resistance), a 3 skill which gives aoe invulnerable (only 3-4 seconds), and my favorite the 5 skill which knocks back your entire zerg for 4-5k damage.

To make this any more complicated and time-consuming for the company to work on every single class when they’re balanced between one-another at the moment is non-sensical. This is one of those examples where there’s a gap of intelligence which creates a fallacy that a complicated solution is better which in reality is the opposite.

Imagine: If they buffed warrior, and maybe thief and guard but didnt nerf anything, and lets also assume they did it right.
So we are having perfect inter-class balance. Everyone can beat everyone else.
Would that make this a balanced game? Would that imply a healthy game state? Would that solve the probelm of build diversity? Would that adress the problem of skill spamming? Of passive carries? Of elite specs?

No.

In order to gain a somewhat playable state they only need to tone down certain traits, buff some others, problem solved. Not. The symptoms are hidden, the disease is not cured. Its callep powercreep.
Now I dont say the game needs a total overhaul (even tho I’m working on one), but there will have to be some serious changes over the coming 6 months.
Im fine if they focus on getting a basic idea of fairness back into the game first, but it cant be all.
Balance is also not a management decison, its a design decision.
They have to work with certain limitations (ressources, update frequency) but the actual game balance is in the hands of people who are trying to create a playable game, casual friendly but fairly challenging.

Here’s a good point. Yes, powercreep with new classes / builds in an expansion gives less build diversity. Anet is taking the route of Blizzard with this expansion. The new classes released in the expansion are purposely made OP to boost sales. After a long time only then are the new expansion classes nerfed to match the others. This issue you’re mentioning is more than likely intentional. So, the solution here which fits the mold is to buff warrior (Berserkers) and maybe slightly Daredevils and Dragonhunters as well.

A great solution would be to make non-expansion trait lines more balanced yet still weaker than the HoT elite trait lines. This way there is still the powercreep; however, there is build diversity with the remaining two trait lines.

You’re assuming the outcome is the same for either approach, but inter-profession balance is only part of the issue. Solution (b) would be an investment aimed at creating a much healthier game in the long run.

I’m responding to rhetorical conjecture here. List some examples of the new classes making some aspects of this game unplayable.

Also the inferred options I made inferred that b) would result is less HoT sales. The results are different.

You cant seriously be that blind. And neither can Anet. The goal of game developement is never to make the easiest choices possible. Balancing is not intended to be ‘easy’ or ‘fast’. Balancing is aimed to provide a healthy, well-working framework for people to play in. And a professional balance team, despite all the mistakes they made, should know this. I hope no game developer has ever aimed for the easiest possible way to to achieve the desired result, knowing that it will not actually fix any problems.
It might very well be that they only equalize for now (buffing warrior and nerfing others), but they will have to look at the system as a whole eventually and they will have to reconsider the implementation of elitespecs.
I expect them to fight the symptoms with this and subsequent patches, but they cant possibly be unaware of the disease itself.

This would be true if they were balanced atm but they aren’t so I don’t see your point

They are considering the statistics of classes which hit Legendary. Warrior is the only class which falls short drastically.

Warriors and team attitude

Ruby/Diamond warrs tend to be above average (skill-wise). Queuing as a zerk warrior Diamond is essentially their legendary due to multiple reasons. I don’t really count condi warriors as warriors to be frank. I’d just rather play a different class than resort to condi meta as warrior. So, having warriors on your team under ruby/diamond doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll lose as they were good enough to get there. However, against equally skilled players warriors will just hold you back.

The only reason warriors go up ranks as of now is by drastically being more skilled than the other team/players. Once they reach a certain level of opponents carrying their own class becomes next to impossible. From there winning consistently comes about by either resorting to condi meta, or playing a different class. Personally, the largest issue of why this is is due to a lot of zerker warrior builds relying on escapes/speed for their sustain. Now playing Greatsword/sword(shield) warrior whenever I use my three escape skills the other class just catch up to me anyways. Anet needs to make warrior escape skills quicker, longer distance, and/or on a drastically lower cooldown in compensation for other classes’ mobility buffs for fun builds to be viable.

To 100% escape a fight you have to use every escape skill + pop rampage 5 rampage 3, manually disable rampage, use another sword escape (or replace rampage with bulls charge, 60s cd). Now the only sustain warrior has left is a 4-5 second endure pain, a corruptable beserker stance, a shield block, 2-4 dodges, then jump around wildly as you are targeted by everyone until death. Either that or go gunflame and hang out around a ledge.

Edit: This is playing without having the expansion. Maybe you can do something with taunt and/or the damage creep of the new trait line.

He probably got rallied. One of your allies died and thus he was revived. The taking no damage and healing is a skill called Defiant Stance which turns damage into healing.

The server with a 2.00 k/d ratio is 3rd in score while 1st and 2nd have on average 0.51 k/d. Seems legit.

Meanwhile on NA, guess which server has been capturing +500-600 ppt while everyone was asleep for the 18th time in a row:

Sea of Sorrows needs some in-game rewards or something. Clearly this is how WvW should be played. Why win fights when you can hire some EU/Asian players to go for that objective win? WvW Build Help for Returning Player

Full stance warrior. Once your cooldowns are used run to the back of your zerg and wait for the cooldown timers. Here’s my build that’s got me a ton of kills and very little deaths. Essentially you engage with Rampage onto their casters, do CC + dmg then leap back to your train. During a melee push do 100blades, flurries, shield bash, final thrusts, and whirlwinds then pop invulns to get out once you start taking too much damage. Half of the fight you’ll be sitting in the back waiting on cooldowns so get used to that:

If you have the expansion use a killshot build such as this. You want to pop healing signet for resistance and pop might signet for your killshot/gunflame which makes the shot(s) unblockable:

About the hammer question, there is a lot more burst damage in zerg fights now. You need a weapon setup which has escapes if you want to do melee pushes and be 100% sure you won’t just lag behind and die after your endure pain runs out. So have greatsword and/or 1-handed sword in your build.

I’m not saying that I’m a good player, probably just average, but if 3 out of 5 people completely ignore team chat, pings and targets and just run to suicide at mid / enemy lord 1 by 1 all the time there’s not much you can do to carry your team.

And you did not follow your teammates to kill the lord? Seems like doing so would have won you the game. Intelligence is considered a skill, I believe.

Dh and reaper can combo well, solo they are squishy but what would I know, I have to find people in groups of 3 or 2 solo not the other way around.

End of the day a majority of the people doing ranked are unsatisfied, how will Tha work long term when people won’t bother with s3? Or quit entirely because all aspects of post HoT is mediocre.

50% of players are placed into a below-average rank. Halo 3 had a really high skill capped system. The game’s popularity with its competitive scene out-shined the amount of losers who gave up and went to an easier game (CoD). The ends justify the means with having a good matchmaking/rating system.

The issue is having players quit because of other related items. Such as the desert borderlands in WvW, and warrior-only players being neglected by essentially staying the same when they were already a weak class right before the expansion; more-so now with every other class getting buffed (hence I’m not buying the expansion). Also some other reasons that don’t come to the top of my head.

To those that feel my skill level as a Mesmer has something to do w/ it, please note the following:

- I’ve exclusively have been playing the Mesmer class for over 2 years now
- I have over 1,800+ hours logged on my Mesmer (main character); most of which are sPvP related.
- I’ve researched, practiced, and have applied lessons successfully shared by other popular Mesmer guide writers, such as: Osicat, and other sticky posts shared at:

What you’ll find in these images are several examples of my victory after victory as I moved through Amber and Emerald, and my progress into Sapphire. You’ll see I’m often 1st or 2nd place, and even in lower point ranking I still show my contribution to the team via heals, dmg output, and/or dmg absorption.

There is no reason why I should be, currently as of 3/21/16, at 65 losses and 6 wins in Sapphire ranking over the last 3 days played – that’s running PUG solo, and with running in 2-4 man organized team groups here and there….

Back in the Halo 3 days I had a friend that spent $500 for lessons from professional players and played 8+ hours a day. He still couldn’t get his MLG rank 50. Truth is some people are just trash and will always be trash.

Ignoring that my class is the worst in the game (non-exp warrior) the MMR seems pretty solid. Players getting stuck in certain ranks means that the system is working.

Often there is posts here about ‘elo hell’. This is a meme from LoL and is fundamentally flawed logic going that you’re stuck in a rank by your RNG of teammates (of which is false). Based on the law of averages everyone will have equal games where they have to carry, get carried, or have to do just average. Reality is players in higher ranks have had just as many ‘bad teammates’ and won anyways because they’re better than you. With this the bad players are stuck in their respective division and we can finally be esports now. Good job, Anet.

I personally don’t think that eliminating all forms of territorial scoring in WvW is possible.

But I have heard quite a few comments about ditching it and I’m curious what you would replace it with.

Points per Cap may eliminate the disproportionate advantage of off hours capping, but doesn’t change the fact that those that like to PvD will still have the advantage. The score difference may not be as pronounce but the advantage would be.

Dumping for PPK doesn’t work as PPK is a function of activity not skill. So the more active servers will simply have more kills.

Using KDR doesn’t work either as it really doesn’t scale and will generally encourage score oriented forces to take positions where they can get the most defensive advantage (i.e bunker/siege up.)

Those are the three that I have considered, what are your thoughts?

PPT is fine. Just give points for kills. Something like 0.5 points per kill. This way in NA servers you won’t be finding fights-tier servers in 2-4 and tier 1 refusing to come out of their keeps. The current system encourages paying EU/Asia players to come onto NA servers and being PvE-centric. This of course is the complete opposite of what people think when they think WvWvW.

There is already Points per kill (PPK) enabled in case you haven’t noticed.

Have not noticed because that’s simply not true. The only server points you get are from holding PvE objectives at the end of the countdown timer.

This change was made in order to allow players who focus primarily on killing enemy players to contribute more to the team’s overall success.
Points are awarded for kills and stomps equally.

PPT is fine. Just give points for kills. Something like 0.5 points per kill. This way in NA servers you won’t be finding fights-tier servers in 2-4 and tier 1 refusing to come out of their keeps. The current system encourages paying EU/Asia players to come onto NA servers and being PvE-centric. This of course is the complete opposite of what people think when they think WvWvW.

There is already Points per kill (PPK) enabled in case you haven’t noticed.

Have not noticed because that’s simply not true. The only server points you get are from holding PvE objectives at the end of the countdown timer.

Pretty much the title, after seeing the recent post by Mike. I mean the map is so gorgeous, and if people actually learned it – I think potentially you can have much more fun fights than in Alpine. But then again I think utilising environment like higher ground and all that makes for fun strategic play rather than just zergs bashing into each other . The map really does look like it was designed with gliding in mind , so I guess if that’s not happening than reducing the size would help. Please just address the issue with lowest tier servers, as well those are really a dessert population wise. Also I’m not saying ppl are vein, but rewards wise adding say, a WvW legendary backpack as a long term reward would do miracles for attracting more players .

There sure are a lot of cuckolds in this today’s world.

I doubt too many people will care if the new “features” work in the old alpine map. Nor do i foresee an enormous outcry if the alpine and desert bl can’t be readily swapped. I would just like to see alpine back until fixes are in place. Why can this not happen?

Jokes on Anet, I’m not buying the expansion. All I’ve seen is my class (warrior) even more worse off than before the expansion, and zerg fights being even more pirate ship than before the expansion.

I’ll go spend my $50 on something with actual value, kkthx. Also the whole making what we paid for $60-80 for the original game to be free then making us looking like freeloaders by making that now free and the expansion $50-100 is hilarious. Then the blatant power creep of new classes then posting spvp ranks beside everyones’ names. Make the game worse and insult your playerbase, yeah man let me start hucking money at my screen

Been experimenting with FGJ on autoattack. The skill only activates by itself in rare situations, with autoattack, with things like using Savage Leap but only if that leap is going to end up damaging something. While cleaving with a hammer FGJ will hardly proc. Has anyone tested FGJ on autoattack to know which instances the skill procs on its own?

Spvp and gvg are both improved. Burn builds are effective, but have to switch off/on according to certain things like number of high-health dudes on the other team. Example a team with two thieves and no necros a condi/burn build using a shoutbow is effective. Against a team with no thieves/mesmers and has necros, should switch off to a cele/strength shoutbow.

With gvgs the increased power has made surviving much more difficult and has both improved the skill gap and quickness to rounds. Ele’s can now do almost as much damage as the before “necro carry” in gvg. With warriors’ and guardians’ buffs can now do things like stealth engages during regroups to mow down people with high bursts of damage. Additionally, all classes (save for maybe thief?) are in map chat gloating how OP their class is now. Good stuff
