Almost forgot, yeah Ele` has good boons, but Thieves & I heard Warriors got boon hate/steals, so even our defences are killing us now ;p

Warriors require 30 points into Discipline to get a trait that gives 3% damage per boon on your enemy. Most warrior players don’t consider the extra damage against bunkers, who run with Protection anyway, to be worth the investment.

Thieves get boon stealing on Sword/Dagger. This means they sacrifice tons of damage. And even then, unless we’re talking boons with long durations, it’s not that useful. Best that I’ve managed was taking like 14 stacks of Might from an ele. The chain for Larcenous takes 4 initiative, so it’s not like they can just rip all the boons off, as that would leave them without stealth. And the top boons to remove would be Stability and Protection, both of which are usually applied in short durations but frequently, thus making stealing them useless.

Knights or PVT armor which is better?

in Warrior

Olba.5376

It really does depend on your build.

Personally, I started out with 5/6 Soldier, 1/6 Berserker armor and Berserker trinkets. I later switched to 3/6 Berserker armor with Berserker trinkets. Right now, I am running 6/6 Berserker armor, Knight’s trinkets and Ruby jewels.

However, my setup had a very specific goal of achieving high crit rate. And that required a lot of precision. Knight’s provides that, whereas Soldier’s does not. I use the crit rate with things like Furious or Forceful Greatsword or Superior Sigil of Earth.

And naturally, your traits affect your build as well. If you have lots of points into Defense, you have a pretty high toughness already. Similarly, unless you have some crit%, traits like Forceful Greatsword are useless.

There’s also condition removal to talk about. Active condition removal (Soldier runes, Quick Breathing) tends to go hand-in-hand with high vitality. Passive condition negation with Lemongrass Poultry Soup and Melandru Runes comes with even more Toughness.

And it depends on what you’re going for. For survivability, Sentinel>Soldier>Knight. For damage, a balance of Knight and Soldier provides the best results.

  1. Nerfed mal leap/cursed shore.
Why did you just turn off the drops? You essential killed the whole of orr instead of you know….. fixing the problem. Throw in a few champs, make the farmed events fail after 30 mins etc….. Why not? Instead you just turned off the drops now look at the crystalline dust price…. well done Anet clap clap, you killed your lvl 80 endgame zone.
  2. WvW
Outmanned? Did you guys pass grade 3 maths? or do they have to outman us 10 to 1 before it turns on? Its useless, free armor repairs? I would rather it gives us +100 to all stats considering the abysmally poor ratio it turns on.
  3. Charged lodestones/Crystalline dust
Why is it they are some of the hardest mats to achieve AND most required in high end skins…. Is this so only the paying, EXTREMELY lucky gamers and CoF P1 players can afford them or was some programmer high at the time?
  4. HM Dungeons
Yup, Sm, EXP and HM mode for dungeons, throw in a daily chest containing 2 rares for a incentive and by god make it a challenge! Make it brutal and make it so ANY class can get involved instead of the select few that get chosen over others.
  5. Incentive
Give us a reason to go places, you know orr would be awesome if we actually got drops…. Maybe when you do a event you also get 1-5 random mats according to our level ( 80 gets 1-5 T6 with a small chance of the 1-5 being core/lodestones etc ), not a economy breaking amount I don’t think.
  1. The lack of drops at the event was a quick fix to it. The event ending after a duration makes no sense, considering that the developers specifically cited bot activity at those events.
  2. The Outmanned buff is supposed to help you, not carry you. It shouldn’t be something that gets you out of a losing streak, only for you to go right back to it once you lose the bonuses.
  3. It was probably an oversight by the developers. However, they cannot exactly go alter the recipes this far into the game, it would cause some massive tremors for the respective markets. And let’s be honest, a short term price crash on many items is not worth having them all balanced on a long term.
  4. That’s a whole topic on its own, but let me just give you the short list. First off, the people who do dungeons are not everyone in the game. The people who would do the hard content are not the majority of the dungeon runners. The majority outside of the dungeon runners are casuals, who don’t want hard content. The majority within the dungeon runners are min-maxers, who want the best coin-to-time ratios, they don’t care about difficulty. So either way, developing a single hard dungeon would probably end up not being played by most people. And revamping all dungeons takes a long, long time.
  5. No, no no. That would absolutely decimate the current markets for all materials.

so basically you justify the higher CD (implemented in all parts of the game) with the argument that Eles could travel fast between two specific points in PvP? … lol
I’ve never seen anybody complain about this on the forums. But suddenly after the patch all those haters start justifing the nerf with these stupid arguments …

Not just PvP, but also WvW. And traveltime is a big, big thing in WvW. The only way a zerg moves is with organized use of swiftness.

But it’s ok when nearly every class can disengage from an ele now if they want?

Disengage from the class that has the best access to boons and the best heals? Yeah, that’s probably a good thing. After all, most people would just run away rather than try to re-engage a fight that they just lost.

And the developers have been saying for a while now that they wanted Eles to be mobile, but not that mobile. They were the most mobile class. That was something they wanted for the Thief.

And honestly, a 1200 range skills that is not affected by movement impairing skills is barely different from a teleport. Comparing it to something like Rush, which is bugged already, isn’t exactly fair.

OP: please post proof that -duration is applied to total and not to base.

That I would like to see as well. But unless you have a dev statement, it might be quite hard to prove, considering that food items are not available for sPvP. Well, an arranged WvW encounter with one party applying conditions with Rare Veggie Pizza and one receiving with Lemongrass Poultry Soup would do. After all, if they stack additively, the duration the receiver takes should be the same as the one that the attacker has on their tooltip.

Other than that, it kinda makes sense for -condition duration to apply to the total, rather than the base, considering that currently it’s impossible to get more than -65% (Other than Dogged March) whereas conditions can easily reach the cap of 100%.

Also, please provide proof of how conditions are ticking—does it round up or down? Does it tick at the beginning or end of every period?

The relevant wiki page has the following note:

Damage is applied on every whole second a specific condition last. Fractional durations (for example due to Sigil of Agony) do not grant additional damage unless they add another full second.

Lol, did you seriously think that the game would give you a trait that would heal you for more than your full HP in a 4 second time period?

Because that’s pretty dumb.

The thing is, Regeneration stacks duration, not intensity. The trait shows the full amount of healing that you would be getting.

@Linguistically Inept: According to the wiki the tooltip rounds the regen ticks to 4 seconds rather than 3. And even without that, it’s reapplied once every 3 seconds.

(housing/enhanced crafting in most games and no mystic forge does not count).

I don’t think that this would work, considering that we already have universal items for portable mystic forges, crafting stations, banks, merchants and TP. And of course, we also had the Molten Alliance Pick for infinite mining.

Also, considering that both Wildstar and Guild Wars 2 are NCSoft games, I doubt that Guild Wars 2 needs to “adopt to the competition”. And honestly, from a monetary point of view, having multiple, different game is better than having tons of clones. Each caters to a small portion of the market, but put them together and it’s great coverage.

Faulty reward system?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Olba.5376

Olba.5376

1-Lower level content also awards lower level items (lower level of value, not actual level…), why is it that my time spent in lower level zones is less valuable than that spent in dungeons? Or mass-farming Orr?

That’s only really true for the junk items. After all, you get level appropriate pieces of equipment. And let’s be honest, if you only got level-appropriate materials, you’d end up with everyone farming lower level zones, since those are easier to kill. Not to mention that the amount of lower level materials would keep dwindling.

2-RNG, honestly I don’t get it why very smart programmers just smack a drop rate on items instead of having people obtain those in legal/legit/understandable/ungrindy means… If I play a total of 800hrs (obviously not spent AFK) I want to be rewarded as much as someone that has played for a 1/4 of that and got a precursor already (I know about the scavenger hunt being worked on, but this isn’t just about precursors, I’m talking about the Whole reward system).
Is my time much less worthy compared to lucky people?

It’s called “random” for a reason. No such thing as “luck” or “worth” in it.

My solution? I’d rather remove the chests and the drops (except for materials obviously, but might give a thought on that too) and have the right-now-useless achievement points count toward rewards, and I’m not just talking about precursors, titles and stuff like “yak-slayer” with an infinite amount of “fillable bars” that reward the player with X meat at every completition, doesn’t that sound fair? It also helps getting people into lower level areas as much as repopulating event-less areas (the amount of event in an area scales with the number of players in said area, so no players no events).

And then you would end up with people farming at specific locations for Legendary-related materials. No difference from how people farm CoF P1 or Orr right now.

One more thing, the player wants to “feel safe”, it means that if I’m working to achieve a certain goal, I want to actually be able to see that goal… you know… either way it seems like an endless run that might end bad half-way through…

And that’s why most people resort to buying things rather than farming them on their own.

Just set a cap on the amount of – condition duration you can have, like -60% at most.

Or just nerf obviously overpowered food.

But who would need to use this “obviously overpowered food”, when, according to you, all classes other than warrior have more than enough condition removals at their disposal?

After all, the reason why the duration reduction works on the total and not base is because you can have duration increments from traits, runes, gear and food, whereas duration reductions only exist in runes and food. The duration increments can easily reach the 100% cap, whereas the reductions are currently maxed at 65%. Maxed on both and it comes to an 0.7 multiplier for your durations.

Or is this just Step 1 on your plan? If you got your wish, would you just switch to asking for condition removals for Warriors?

I can’t live without Mobile Strike. In situations where I got chain CC by zergs, Mobile Strike saved me at least 65% of the time. Without Mobile Strike, I die almost 100% in those situations.

25 Defense (5% toughness to Power) actually gives more Power than Berserker Power.

  1. With Melandru runes, Lemongrass Poultry Soup and Dogged March, you get a total of -98% on cripple/chill/immobilize, effectively making them non-existent.
  2. Untrue. First off, Avlis runs GS most of the time, so we should consider Berserker’s Power at full adrenaline. With the setup that Avlis is running, he’s at 2164 Power, thus Berserker’s Power gives him 259 Power. If he spent 50 points to get the 25 trait in Defense, he’d be at 1,614 Toughness, thus the 5% bonus would yield 80 Power. However, to get that, he lost 50 Power and the 259 he gained from Berserker’s Power. So in total, he’d lost 229 Power.

Guild Wars 2 not doing well, True or False?

I myself love GW2 and think it’s a fantastic game. I am hoping for many years of enjoyment to come.

So I was browsing the internet and came across a guys blog who linked a discussion about Colin stating there is no plans for a GW2 expansion.

To make a long story short, he basically was saying based upon what Colin was saying, that GW2 is doing ok, but not well enough (bringing in enough money) to warrant an expansion.

Granted the game is still so very new, but I just wanted to gather some others opinion about the game.

I myself REALLY hope GW2 is doing great because I think ArenaNet has made a really awesome game and wish them the best of success, and even if that means they need to inquire a small monthly fee to generate them some money I would be willing to pay it.

Anyway, what are your thoughts?

They are not planning an expansion because they’re focusing on polishing out the do’s and don’ts for the Living Story.

As for the money, there was a lot of talk about an NCSoft earnings report that stated that there had been enough cash flow to warrant an expansion.

Keep your personal opinions out of the video. Because I’ll say, I liked the combat. I liked that you play a S/D in a world where most people run D/D or D/P. I liked that you played an evade heavy build, rather than a stealth-heavy one.

However, you went there. You called some random person out because they ran from you. You and your partner. You play a Thief, one of the better 1v1 classes already and you put someone down because they did not want to do a 1v2 against you and your partner.

I watched the video muted…and now I’m glad I did. I hate idiots that invoke accusations of fear towards others who know how to pick their battles. It’s a weak tactic to provoke someone at best and a clear display in lack of understanding how to play competitively at worst.

Of any class, thieves should understand the logic of escaping a fight you won’t win.

Oh no, there was no voice over of any kind, just some music. Some of which was actually pretty good.

First up what I thought was a massive plus now turns out to be a problem in the long term – free to play. As a big PvP guild we are in contact with many other guilds and this pattern is being seen across the board, this worries me as ArenaNet don’t seem to be acknowledging this.

Wait, you’re actually saying that the lack of a subscription fee is bad? How many people do you think bought the game exactly because it had no subscription fee? How many games have recently been released with a sub fee that later had to go without one in an attempt to salvage their dying games?
One of the biggest things that turn non-WoW people off from MMORPGs is subscription fees. That and the fact that the alternative is often an F2P game where content is truly gated unless you paid or the high-level play is “pay-to-win”.
Heck, I’ll personally say that I would have never bought Guild Wars 2 if it had a subscription fee.

The second big problem is progression, or lack there of. AN should be congratulated for trying so hard to break us free of gear grind, a situation where players play the same dungeon over and over and over again for a 0.05% chance of a piece of gear. Turns out, most players still want this reward system.

Now you’re just making a massive generalization. Just because you have a guild, that could be considered large, that seems to want it, does not mean that the same is true for everyone. Heck, have you ever considered how many players there are that are part of smaller guilds? People that have no guilds? You don’t get to hear their voice by talking to people within guilds.

There’s no denying it, Guild Wars 2 is painfully lacking in high level content that an entire guild can take part in, up until guild missions it been WvsW. I love guild missions, they are awesome and add so much.. but it’s not raiding. MMO players want raiding, it’s that simple.

Look at the kittenstorm that Fractals of the Mists was. When it was first introduced as the only means to get Ascended gear, people wrote hundreds, thousands of posts literally telling ANet to go kitten themselves. Now ask yourself, what would it take for a similar dungeon to work for your guild. Would you really think that a big guild would be satisfied with a difficult dungeon offering nothing but skins? Would you really think that those people wouldn’t rather have it drop something like Ascended armor or weapons, which doesn’t exist in the game yet? Would you think that the people not into the dungeon grinding thing would be happy with that?
Honestly, if they added content that pretty much required you to be in a guild, you can bet your behind that tons of people would rage. We already have people complaining about how smaller guilds cannot do missions.

Lastly I’d just like to mention WvsW. Initially I was bowled over by its scale and brilliance but now I’m seeing the big flaw. Nothing counts for anything, every victory can be undone within minutes. I think we really need some new objectives that make players want to fight for them. Imagine an objective that gave you 20% off items on the gem store..

Ok, now you’re just kidding yourself. 20% off on gem store stuff? That would just result in everyone farming the crap out of that one objective, doing nothing else all day. I am pretty sure that there are better ways to improve WvW than adding ridiculous rewards.

- a new skill system where you gain skills from bosses you beat. You make these encounters very difficult and in turn give guilds a reason to exist again. We need to be able to offer our members more than a TS server and some good music
- give players something to play for (I know your already doing this in many ways) like big objectives in WvsW
- make content tougher to beat

As for skills that you can get from bosses, that’s going to provide some issues. Firstly, it’ll be a nightmare to balance, which is exactly why ANet made Guild Wars 2 in the first place. Secondly, it’ll give a ridiculous advantage for anyone who is in an organized guild. As someone who’s not a guild-type person, I would be pretty kitten kitten ed if they made it so that you’d have to join a guild to partake in missions that give you powerful or beautiful new skills.
As for difficult content, that has many, many issues. For one, most people do not want difficult content. Look at how many people are running CoF P1 for money and compare those numbers to how many are running some of the more difficult dungeons. For two, difficult content is difficult to provide. You have to make the content ridiculously difficult or you will simply run into the issue of people completing the content way too early. And again, that leads to most people never playing that content. And making content for a tiny portion of your playerbase is kinda a dumb idea.

The minor trait isn’t really worth it and you get more power from going 25 into Strength, or 30 into Arms. The latter also comes with Furious, which is excellent for Adrenaline gain.

Also, I don’t quite see the point of going Knight’s on armor and Valkyrie in ornaments. If you want the crit damage, then you’re best off using Beryl Orbs, as those offer the best point-per-point return. Even more so since you cannot get Exotic Soldiers on the upgrade slots. So I would suggest exotic Soldier’s accessories with Beryl Orbs instead.

Your little gimmick: Convert Warhorn + That trait is 30 Points. It would take the same amount to do that as it would a grand-master trait.

Pretty sure Quick Breathing is Master, making it 20 points.

http://www.guildhead.com/skill-calc#mcR9haG0M0s (Turtle’s Def=Dogged March.)
Its the same amount of traits as a grand-master skill to DO that gimmick.

Which isn’t really necessary at all, considering that Charge already takes care of them. I simply put Dogged March in to simplify it a bit.

Again, why are you suggesting this rather than something like a signet with a passive removal? And weren’t you already happy with suggestions about bursts removing conditions?

The very least you could do is make it so thakitten converts to something that somehow benefits the condition build. Vulnerability does not affect condition damage and most condition attacks have low physical damage, so the conversion isn’t that much different from a full-on cleanse. Being Vulnerability also makes it prone to Quick Breathing. Why not something like Weakness?

Rangers can remove 3 every 10 seconds with a trait, and then another every 10 seconds with a signet. He also has a water field healing ability that has a high uptime.

The first is a Grandmaster trait. The second is a Signet. Water fields are useless without finishers.

Guardians can remove 2 with signet and 1 with a minor trait, and also has several shouts which completely convert conditions into boons while absorbing conditions with one.

The first is, again, a Grandmaster trait coupled with a Signet. The shout conversion is also Grandmaster.

Thief has a trait which he can every 4 seconds go into stealth and remove 2 conditions. His healing ability also removes all damaging conditions and even more with that trait because it stealths you.

Thief also has half the HP of a warrior, thus their vulnerability to conditions is much higher.

Necromancers can send 7 conditions to there minions every 10 seconds, send them at there target, consume them.

Again, Grandmaster traits, along with taking all of your utility, healing and elite slots.

All I’m seeing is you rattling off a ton of Grandmaster traits and utilities, sometimes multiple. And you’re asking for something comparable, if not outright superior, for one freaking minor trait that most warriors already get anyway?

So tell me, why are you not suggesting a Signet removal for us as well?

And you want the same for 5 points into a traitline that most Warriors already spec into anyway. Nice to know that you’re not biased at all.

25 Vulnerability is 25% Damage taken It is significant if you have a lot of it.

Which does not affect conditions whatsoever, making it mostly useless.

Also, you cannot choose which condition the warhorn converts, if you get 1 stack of bleeding right before you use it, it will convert something else. It is not hard to apply bleeds.

But all of your damage-oriented conditions are converted once every 5 seconds. That leaves you with Blind, Chilled, Crippled, Fear, Immobilized, Vulnerability and Weakness. Oh but wait, Charge or 10 points into Defense takes care of Immobilized, Crippled and Chilled. Also, Fear isn’t really a concern there either.

A condition spec would have no reason to use Vulnerability on you, so that’s not really much of a concern.

Leaves you with two non-damage conditions to worry about. Which isn’t really much.

Please argue with me when you actually play a warrior. Come back and then give me example that are not loaded and based off paper mechanics, in pvp nothing ever goes your way.

If nothing ever goes your way, you make it go your way.

Not going to happen.

Basically you’re talking about changing all conditions once every 5 seconds into Vulnerability. But throw in Quick Breathing and that would just make all conditions melt.

Not really melt. Also it would only effect damaging conditions. (Bleeding/Burning/Confusion/Poison.)

Even with quick breathing the cooldown for the warhorn is very long. (16s.)

Still, I think it’s a dumb idea, simply because Vulnerability does not benefit conditions at all. Basically resulting in a situation where you’d be massively punishing any condi build that has more than 5s duration.

Also, Warhorn has two skills. By playing your cards right, you’d end up with only ever having this Thick Skin convert two piles of conditions to Vulnerability.

So using your skills with each other to gain a benefit like every other class can is wrong? /le-gasp!

What other class has a trait or utility that limits all damage-dealing conditions to a maximum duration of 5 seconds?

What other class has a trait or utility that limits all damage-dealing conditions to a maximum duration of 5 seconds while giving frequent Protection?

As an example, a sword warrior has a default duration of 8s, most likely 12s due to the trait. Well, your Thick Skin just cut their default damage by a third (Ooh, looks like Protection), their traited duration by more than half (Ooh, looks better than Protection), while allowing the receiving Warrior to convert for Protection (Ooh, it is Protection).

Hell, at least keep it reasonable. Doing something crazy like making Dolyak Signet’s passive remove 1 condition every 10 seconds instead of giving 180 toughness would be better.

How does Condition Duration work?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Olba.5376

Olba.5376

It’s a bit more complex than that.

First off, the damage that you see in the tooltip is the total damage the condition deals over the set duration.

Second off, conditions deal damage on a per-second basis. The tooltip adds all of this up and properly rounds it down. What this means is that even if the tooltip claims you have, for example, a 12.75s bleed, the damage displayed is that of a 12s bleed, which is accurate.

Though, in your case, it would be 110 damage over 11 seconds. However, an 8 second bleed with 10% duration would not benefit at all, as the resulting 8.8 second duration gets cut off at 8.0 seconds and thus there is no benefit at all.

Also, condition duration is capped at 100%.

Stop with the Pakitteno machines.

I just wish the Skritt IQ test subjects were voiced.
My favourites are:
And:
Skritt: Ahhh! Not more questions. Why? Why? Did questions yesterday.
Player: Let’s say apples cost 10 coins each and I have 60 coins in my pocket-
Skritt: Shinies! Shinies in pocket! Give me shinies in pocket! Shinies! Give give.
Player: We’ll try something different. Dolyak A leaves Muridian Uplands heading east-
Skritt: Shinies! Shinies in pocket! Give me shinies! Pocket shinies! Shinies, shinies, shinies, shinies!
Player: I don’t have any shinies in my pocket! None! Zero! Zilch!
Skritt: Ooooh. Then, no apples.

I loved that one, I found myself going “You just got owned, dude” at my own character.

And just for comparison, The Lemongrass Poultry Soup is -40% condition duration. Your suggested condi wipe would result in a similar effect on anyone who has condis lasting longer than 8 seconds.

Not to mention thakitten ’s a dumb idea, since Vulnerability does not affect condition damage. And think about all the Warrior rage you would get out of all the neutralized Flurries turning into pathetic 2-4s of 8-12 stacks of Vulnerability.

Various 10% damage weapon sigils are bad!!!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Olba.5376

Olba.5376

Honestly, I don’t see the issue.

They implemented a Sigil that gives bonus damage during night time. Naturally, people would either a) not use them b) only use them during night time. That is perfectly natural.

The Bloodlust and Perception Sigils have an associated build-up. For example, for someone with 2000 power, they will need a minimum of 10 stacks for the Bloodlust Sigil to be superior to the Force Sigil. Similarly, the Sigil of Perception takes 11 stacks before it surpasses the Sigil of Accuracy.

If you want an issue, then you should look to people who choose to carry around those optimized weapons and then proceed to complain about lack of inventory space.

Please take away crab toss and costume brawl from the daily choices and replace them with other stuff, these things are NOT fun and a waste of time. Why force people to do silly stuff just to accomplish their daily anyway?

That’s your personal opinion.

The <2 hours I spent yesterday to get my Grab Toss Champion, Crabtacular and Crabgrabber were some of the most fun I’ve had in the game in a while.

I, too, was of the opinion that Crab Toss was a crabby game yesterday, after having only tried it once. However, after I decided that I would do Crab Toss to get the required 25 achievements for the Southsun Stalwart and actually started paying attention to the mechanics of the game, it turned into tons of fun.

Short Bow in WvWvW

in Thief

Olba.5376

The combat log showed hits from the thief with the #1 of the short bow:
6×1600 (crit?)
1×600 (normal hit? but now much Crit dmg would he have?)

This means he had 6 big crits hits in a row, which means he was using Power + Preg gear?

The problem here is that you have very little to go on.

The damage only tells us that he should have in the ballpark of 100% crit damage. The crits themselves don’t tell us anything other than that he did not have 100% crit chance.

It’s perfectly possible for a Thief to reach 90%+ crit rate with some preparation. Things like 30 into Critical Strikes, Sigil of Perception, full Berserker gear, Precision Food and a Maintenance Oil make that possible.

I`d like to know if this is normal for the a SB build (if one such build does exists), what gear would such a build require, etc. As far as I know SB dmg was lowered in the recent patches, so this seamed strange.

I don’t think it was a shortbow build. You said that they were chasing you. Shortbow is a ranged weapon and it offers the top mobility of all Thief weapons. I think he was just chasing you with his swap weapon. Especially considering that he was with someone else and that the information you gave us would hint that he’s mostly GC.

what %crit chance would a thief have in full zerker/valk? (he did not have fury / sigil stacks on him)

Well without any foods, fury or sigils, 60% looks to be a good guess. Throw in precision oriented foods and it jumps to 70%. Throw up some traits and Sigils and it’ll go up to 100%. Though note that having such a high crit rate is pretty much never the best means of damage.

As for the damage that he dealt, I cannot really say without knowing how much armor you have. At the very least, you would have 1980 armor total, but it can go up a lot depending on your traits and gear. With 1980, the Thief would need a pretty low amount of 2250-2650 power to deal the kind of damage you took.

That also backs up the theory that he was mostly glass cannon.

My conclusion: You encountered a glass cannon thief who decided to use their Shortbow instead of their main weapon because you were being chased.

my ideas for thieves

My ideas are!!
When a stealthed player gets hit it removes stealth but does not apply the revealed debuff.

I am personally against this.

Firstly because Thieves are already haunted. If anyone sees a Thief, that will usually result in multiple people attacking him. A change like this would make his stealth useless.

Secondly because I personally love the moments when I manage to kill a Thief that has stealthed. Some call it lucky, but how often can you actually get a kill just by blinding smashing your skills? I would say that using your Auto-attack (if you lack gound-targeting AoEs) to detect a Thief is a level up in terms of player skill.

another idea i have is change last refuge and make the player drop BLACK POWDER instead ..

This I actually like. Black Powder has some serious potential.

However, I wonder about how that would funtion on a D/P thief?

reduce ini cost of CnD to 5
increase heart seeker to 3 ini and put a trait 25 to 30 points deep into the trickery line to decrease the ini of all #2 weapon skills by one.

Increase it to 3? It already is 3.

And I have to say I disagree with lowering Cloak and Dagger’s initiative cost. If you want to spam it all over the place, you should need to trait for it. I run Infusion of Shadow and Infiltrator’s Signet exactly for that reason.

shadow refuge should be a stealth pulsing area that does not give the revealed debuff.. it should work like this.. im in stealth in my shadow refuge and it is pulsing every second to give me stealth.. oops i get hit.. my stealth is gone.. pulse.. i have stealth again and they just gor blinded because i have it traited to blind on stealth WIN!

Or you could just get almost the same effect by not applying your suggested change to stealth in the first place. Except no blind spamming.

in Thief

Olba.5376

I really don’t see the problem here.

Just a quick look at the traits of other classes shows that most of them get minor traits that give damage of some kind.

And let’s be serious for a moment, setting up the 10 stacks of Might takes some serious effort, unless you’re willing to blow all of your initiative or use Shadow Refuge. And it’s not like 10 stacks is even that big, considering that we can get up to 22 if we decide to blow some signets and Basilisk Venom. Warriors get an easy 8 stacks, which can go up much higher with tweaking. Eles get god-knows-how-many stacks from attunement swapping with that kitten sigil.

Oh and by the way, if a Warrior goes for Might duration, they start combat with 12 stacks and go up to an average of 20+ stacks over time. With any weapon.

Offensive name should be renamed, not banned

Olba.5376

They shouldn’t waste time on people that can’t follow simple rules. They have more important things to do.

But it’s not simple. Could you explain to me how a name like “Do It To It” is offensive and bannable?

Gladly. It’s offensive and bannable if people in charge of that decision consider it to be offensive and bannable.

Thanks for proving my point.

You have no point. It’s the responsibility of players to choose names that can’t be considered offensive by someone in charge of that decision. It’s not like that guy is just sitting there looking for someone to ban for no reason.

And when offensive is defined by obtuse, inane, measures and not by generally obvious ones, how are players to determine what is considered offensive if they do not have rules or examples to go off of? In actuality, you cannot choose a name that is not offensive if your reason is “well they say it is so it is”. There will always be something that is offensive since they can just magically will it to be.

You proved my point, thank you very much.

And here you are, arguing away. Doing exactly what ANet said that you have no place to do. Nice.

You know, most people would think that a character name is supposed to be exactly that, a name. Not a phrase. But hey, if you want to go there, you can always take a hard, long look at the name and think. Ask yourself could a speaker of the English language see something offensive or bannable in this name. That’s a pretty good guideline when it comes to figuring out whether your name is offensive or not.

For the record, I looked at the name “Do It To It” for about half a second before noticing how obviously it could be interpreted as a roundabout sexual-themed imperative.
