Level scaling means old zones never become obsolete.
When you reach 80, you should forget about your level. It’s only your traits and armor that’s important. Level is more to help guide you through the zones.
Maybe when players hit 80 the level numbers on you should disrepair. And be replaced with a Veteran symbol (Champion symbol for good WvW players).
Lower level Enemies will have their level number disappear once you reach 80. You will only then see symbols for normal enemies, veteran’s and champions.
my character is level 32 (and ive already put a decent amount of time to get where i am) and was traveling through a new area trying to find new quest, points of interests ect. and ended up in an area that scaled me down to level 22 i ended up fighting several mobs around level 25. isnt the point of any rpg to play to become stronger then ur enemys then pwn? i feel like every aspect and mechanic of this game is broken, i can play for the next year every day reach level 80 and besides skills, and gear be exactly the same as someone who just started. i see how raising to 80 for wvw and pvp makes sense but where does my hard work and level grinding start to show purpose if in pve my lvl is dropped and enemys are going to be higher lvl then me because im weaker 10 ft. over here then i am over there? this is a good idea with a really dumb resault pls take level scaling off for pve id feel like my hours in front of the keyboard had purpose.
Level scaling is the best thing to ever happen in any mmo.
‘best’ based on what?
Who’s the best cheater is.
Hello,
So like people may say that housing will make the world empty, I also agree on that but I don’t mind housing either.
What if there was an Island or another world in GW2 Added.
And on that Island its like a “paradise” and pure “fantasy” .The island also includes “15” houses or some other type of house.
You can own/have the house if your the top “15” players on the server.
Or you could even have it in the GW2 world and the island/place is all the servers. Please please take a look into this and what do you guys think?.
Best Regards,
Knight.Thank You.
Housing is better if everyone can own one. How else will Anet make money off houses other then gem sales.
Anet should emulate Rift. In the storyline mode Anet has already proven they can create a instance anywhere.
Housing would also be very profitable for Anet and make a good gold sink.
Anet can sell these types of things in the gem store
*items for the game (some in BLC)
*Realty section in the TP.
*Buy merchants and servants for your home.
*Buy crafting areas
*Buy mystic forge
*Buy vendors
*Buy particle effects
*Buy Music
*Buy NPC’s that you can program with scripts
*Buy NPC scripts
*Buy Bank Access with more storage
But housing in this game would work best if it worked like Rift. Using the current storyline mode as a model your it.
(edited by Onshidesigns.1069)
Where should ANet place houses to keep locations clean? Queensdale?
Houses would be instanced like story line quests or dungeons. Anet will need to save data of your house so friends can download and visit your house.
My point is half the work for Anet is done. If they do houses like the story line instances.
Player houseing? No.
Guild fortress/housing ? Yes!
Let guilds decorate large structures the way they ant, players can claim various rooms and just decorate the room int he guild they have claimed as their own. If you stop repping a guild your stuff is immediately returned to you (oh look a built in way of rewarding members for stickign with one guild!).
What if you could connect your player house to your guild fortress through a free waypoint. And your guild members can visit your house through a guild fortress waypoint.
I think the houses and guild houses can go together well.
Sounds more like Skyrim. I can’t see this in a mmo, to be honest.
Elder scrolls online will be in beta soon.
Getting hacked is very bad another words ’’lame’’ excuse since:
Your IP’s addresses and pc that you use is linked, if you get caught from your own IP address since you confirmed ‘’home and hosting IP’’ spaming selling gold and botting is prevented to be hacked. You have no defense, and your account can get shut down, and they don’t need additional reason, because:
a) you were on your own IP, spamming or selling gold.
b) IP and logs are stored, you get what you deserve.
If they have a dynamic IP. They just need to turn off their computer, put plug their modem or about 4 hrs or longer. Then their ISP will assign them a new IP.

So, learn it, please..?
Don’t make me go on every one of your post and correct you.
This may have been suggested.
With pirates in the game. A SPvP mode that was based on Naval Battles makes sense.
Mode 1- works like Wintersday snowball fight SPvP game
*Pirates VS Black Loin Co
*BL Goal, BL ships most pickup it’s cargo and deliver it to it’s destination.
*Pirates Goal, cripple enemy supply ship and steal it’s cargo. Then return to base for the win.
*Both sides will have 3 total ships. One supply ship, 2 Attack ships.
*Supply ships are slower, bigger but heavily armored, like Spanish Galleon’s.
Mode 2 Naval Deathmatch
*Each player is captain of their own ship.
*Attack ships only
Mode 3- Conquest Mode
*2 teams, Pirate vs Pirate
*Pirate fight over control of shipping lines.
*NPC BL cargo ships moving through shipping lines. To cripple and steal cargo.
- Controlling a shipping line requires stealing cargo from 3 NPC BL ship.

Boy, hadn´t had such a powerful grammar-nazi attack in ages.
Whew, glad it´s over.
So kittening what
Charr have Steampunk
Humans have Mid Evil Fantasy
Asura have Alchemy
Sylvari have Nature
Nords are like Native Americans/Vikings without boats
Each race has it’s own theme. Meaning this game is not meant to be a pure mid evil game.
Each city reflects the themes of it’s race. With the exception of Lion’s Arch.

It only has to do with Thieves now feeling like they can’t gank everything they see. Check the Thief subforums, and the SPVP subforums, then check the history of the posters. Just one class who is upset because they actually have to work for a kill.
Not all Thieves use stealth. My Thief uses AOE short bow. But if Anet Nerf’s AOE I will have to use stealth.
I’m not sure if I worded this post the right way.
In SPvP, it seems AOE is a problem because AOE is being spammed in capture points. If there was a barrier around the capture point that blocked some of the AOE from getting in the capture point from outside. It would solve the AOE spamming by forcing AOE users into the capture point to use AOE to it’s full effectiveness.
Just wanted to let you guys know that we’re reading this thread.
Your logic, reasons, anecdotes and ideas are being listened to. Also keep in mind, that as I said yesterday, a skill can be a balance problem in one area of the game, but underpowered in another. That’s the nature of using one set of #‘s to balance across all areas of the game. So we’re keeping that in mind as we look at this. We may need to do different tweaks in different areas of the game.
We’re also not going to make a knee jerk reaction to this. We’re still gathering data, watching player trends, and having meetings on all possible ramifications from possible changes.
If the problem with AOE has to do with SPvP. Then just add some magic field/barrier around the capture points when defending. That reduces AOE damage coming from outside the capture circle. That will make players using AoE to have to enter the capture point to use AOE to full effectiveness.

You are describing “perfect imbalance” that is in the video.
Supersun said it better then the video did. +1
But he thought he was talking about balance. When it sounded more like Imbalance.
Instead of Nerfing AOE entirely. Create a magic barrier around the conquest points that absorbs some of the magic.
Balancing the game to appease everyone by NERFing is the problem. It’s impossible for Anet to appease everyone though balancing. People will always complain about something.
Classes should instead play off each others weaknesses.
Anet just needs to make sure some classes are not too weak against anther class. By buffing it’s weaknesses some.
Not necessarily
As long as there is imperfect information and that the game is designed so that there isn’t a dominant strategy, but a variety of strategies with their strengths and weaknesses then you could still have a successful game with surprises.
You are describing “perfect imbalance” that is in the video.
Anet wants to balance for 5v5 so they don’t want AOE to hit every player on the other team if they all stood on 1 point.
They could add some type of magic shield over conquest points. That reduces AOE damage in just that area.
“Perfect Imbalance” is a terrible definition to what they are describing. What they are talking about is “Asymmetrical Balance.”
Likewise whether a game is based around Symmetrical Balance or Asymmetrical Balance by themselves do not lead to boring and generic or exciting and unique game play.
Chess is symmetrically balanced (well mostly), yet saying that it has boring and generic gameplay would be an insult to every chess grandmaster out there.
Rock, Paper, Scissors is asymmetrically balanced, yet to say that the game has exciting and unique gameplay that people must pay to watch high level tournament play is a bit excessive.
A symmetrically balanced game do not make a good mmo. There to predictable with no surprises when playing.
youre nuts. the real reason is that aoe is bad for most aspects of the game, especially conquest spvp. it dumbs everything down.
There’s nothing wrong with AoE. In fact it’s better “balanced” in this game than in most because it has to be placed, it’s telegraphed and thus more easily dodged,
AOE is actually better because it is a example of “Perfect Imbalance”. See the video in my signature.

you dont know what theyre gonna nerf exactly. but i will enjoy watching the d/d ele fall from top. im sure good eles will still do fine.
Without AOE this might as well be a FPS.
This thread to talk about “Perfect Imbalance” vs “Balance” in games. And how it affects things Nerfing AOE and other things in this game.
Watch this video on Perfect Imbalance if you haven’t seen it before posting.

My opinion is that to much “balance” leads to boring generic gameplay. While a game with “Perfect Imbalance” has more exciting and unique gameplay.
This, there’s a theory in game design that you should leave some imbalance in. This vid explains it well:

Added video to my signature.
I’ve seen many games destroyed in the name of Balance. Balance does lead to boring predictable gameplay with no tactics.
Imbalance creates exciting unpredictable gameplay. As long as each side has it’s own strengths and weaknesses to the other side.

Good video on ’Perfect Imbalance". It explains what I was talking about well. I only watched the one on “power creep” before seeing this.
And instead of nerfing, buff the UP things. Balance is boring and, speaking directly, you’ll never reach e-Sports.

Imbalance creates exciting unpredictable gameplay. As long as each side has it’s own strengths and weaknesses to the other side. (ex. in old Socom’s Seals had the best weopans while terrorists had the map advantage.)
Add option to have camera positioned above head.
why not just make skills different in the different game modes? like in Guild wars 1, when you entered pvp, the skills changed or behaved differently in function. why not just change skills based on game mode or type?
That what they did in the holiday SPvP games. They said CTF doesn’t work. Buf if you change the abilities it will.
SPvP games can be devided into two catagiores.
*with normal SPvP abilities
*with unque SPvP abilities (ex. Keg Brawl, allow warp from mists for free)
Part of the problem with games today is developers over balancing classes. Classes should have advantages in some areas and disadvantages in other areas.
If a class is at too much for a disadvantage in one area to anther class. Decrease that disadvantage to the appropriate level.
You rarely have to make a class weaker though. Imbalance in some areas creates exciting gameplay.
The designers are looking at each skill individuality. When instead they should create charts of CC and AOE skills of all classes. Put the charts on a wall.
AoE was a counter to thieves…oh but we aren’t allowed counters and instead get 14k hits by a thief when having 2k+ toughness/Vit….
My whole thief build is about AoE with my short bow. I don’t even use stealth and it works great. But, I also don’t see anyone else that can use a short bow in the way that I do.
The game designers do know that this is a fantasy game? And that magic is usually AOE. So is poison and bleeding with a short bow.
If Anet wanted to design a FPS, they should have done that instead!
On AOE builds
Good build should not be punished by nerfing them! Instead of nerfing, balance classes by improving there skills to counter better builds.
Good build should not be punished by nerfing them! Instead of nerfing, balance classes by improving there skills to counter better builds.
If I use my short bow to group enemies herd them into a group. Then move around them using AOE skills. That is skill not a exploit.
Anet just needs to make enemies smarter. So a mob don’t get into one easy to attack little ball.
(edited by Onshidesigns.1069)
How about not nerfing any of class. Instead make the weaker classes better at combating other classes.
Improve how enemies in PvE combat AOE player builds. By making then less predictable in how they move.
Final Fantasy 8 style card game in GW2
*Game would play very similar to the one in FF8.
*Collect cards through Karma
*Collect cards through turning weak enemies into cards like in FF8.
*Cards are soulbound
*Game is played of table in towns.
I don’t see how poker sounds like fun in the aspect of the game. There are plenty of poker sites to play at if you want to play cards.
Maybe not poker specifically, but a game that brings a group together and gets people talking in the main cities.
What about a card game similar to the one in Final Fantasy 8. Collect cards of enemies in world the same way as in FF8.
Tables can be placed in cities and towns to play these type of mini games.
They well soon, that’s why the current armor skins a in promotion section.
I just want to be able to use all my cosmetic gem store items on my main and alts.
Cosmetic gem store armor/weapon skins should be account bound, copy-able and re-buy them for free.
Doing this would mean removing gem store skins from the Mystic forge.
Headgear should work with at-least two hair styles (one long and one short).
Then give the ability to change just our hair style. In the same way you change dyes on armor. Even if it costs gems for permanent hair styles.

Instead of a cut scene. Maybe it can actually a small playable area. A area void of objects but full of particle affects. It would look like you are actually flying through a wormhole.
This came into my mind as well. You could have 10/15/20 or so very small ‘corridors’ through The Mists with varying scenery and the game loads during the period that youre running through it. Many games have employed what I like to call ‘buffer zones’ between maps to load and even the most basic games (Fifa 13 comes to mind) allow you to play some aspect of the game DURING loading so its far from impossible.
The trouble with this is….its a lot of coding for very little gain. While id love to see it it’ll never happen =(
Thinking about my idea, It’s kind of like the loading areas in Assassins Creed.
Lionguard Lyns will be returning in the end of January build without the Black Lion Keys in her inventory. She will then remain up for everyone to liquidate their Commendations and will likely be leaving entirely after about a month.
Sounds like they have a new system to replace Commendations.
With Lionguard Lyns, give her a new job in the world to do. Make her part of the story.
Why does the game need to spawn enemies in places with no players around?
What if you make a game that spawns enemies just outside the players view. It could create more unique encounters and events. Although it would require less players on the map.
Totally need this feature. So I don’t have to force people to link me their gear always.
Who are you to think you should force someone to link their gear to you?
To ensure there are no magic find leechers in the group.
What if you all played with MF. Would you all get the Ascended rings faster?
My short bow stacks MF up to 25 times. But I can still kill a mob faster then most other players.
Totally need this feature. So I don’t have to force people to link me their gear always.

Well, if it saves silver than it’s less of a gold sink, just sayin.
Or are you just waiting silver by using more expensive gathering tool on copper.
