I simply want to see rares/exotics a little more often.

To put it simply, I shouldn’t be getting blues for fighting the Claw of Jormag…….ever.

Drop rate of lodestones

honestly, after 30 runs you have 1 lodestone.
It’s actually 4 lodestones if you make em out of the cores. Then you can buy 4 or 5 more with the money you earned from those runs.

So 30 runs, 9 lodestones. Not too bad really.

ROTFLMAO…..

So Anet put some ‘rare’ and/or ‘difficult’ useless items in the game that cost $$$ to get?

Outside of ‘completionists’ who cares? Its not like these items are REQUIRED to be able to play the game or anything? It sounds rather mild and kitten tactics compared to other games with ‘microtransactions’.

LOL

It’s not always completionists. Some people actually want these items and find the slow acquisition of the required mats enjoyable.

If you don’t want it than good for you.

I think people would rather have a crafting recipe that included 500-1000tokens from every dungeon in the game than try the RNG method in the forge.

The clover thing has RNG, but it’s not THAT bad (1/3-1/5 chance).

If 4 rares of the appropriate weapon type gave you a 1/20 chance and 4 exotics have you a 1/10 chance, it would be ALOT more doable.

But at this time, I’m waiting for ANet to either increase drop rate OR implement the scavenger hunt they’ve been talking about.

Lol, conspiracy theorist. I can guess that jab is at me. Then explain to me why rampant inflation has been, since launch, allowed to run on fo as long as it has. IT FINANCIALLY BENEFITS ANET.

That’s not conspiracy. It’s as much of one as walking into any casino and stating the games are rigged in favor of the house. Well duh, of course they are and of course this one is. No fault to Anet, they are a business.

There it is.

Now get off my thread. You serve no purpose

Apparently you not only don’t understand how an economy works but how an mmo economy works or more importantly in the mechanics of micro economics WHY this economy works the way it does.

Your looking for an answere or common ground on how to add precursors to the economy in a healthy way and there are ways, many many ways in fact. Quite a few for quite a while have been mentioned in the forums for months.

Anets response has made it (Acquisition of a preursor) the way it is and subsequent underlying market the way it is intentionally. Not only are they not listening to good ways to improve the ingame economy. They have taken a route that benefits them short term. Again, that’s not an accident.

Go learn something about markets and economy. Market making is what mmo’s with cash shops do. This one is a lot more aggressive than most

Maybe i dont know anything about mmo markets or the economy.

But what I DO know is thinking the worst and then proceeding to shove it down everyone’s throats serves ZERO beneficial purpose to those who wish to try and make things better.

So I ask you, if you believe so strongly, why the kitten are you here and why do you feel the need to push your beliefs onto people who CLEARLY don’t share them?

I want a legendary as much as the next man. I wouldn’t see an increased rate in precursor drops as a problem. The rest of the mats required are pretty intense, but nothing that someone with a bit of time can’t invest in. Everything is obtainable.

I am not sure if I want the precursor rate to change, or not. On the one hand, I want my incinerator. On the other hand, I don’t want to walk in to Lion’s Arch and see every dagger user equipping it.

It’s a fine line, really. Legendary is supposed to be hard to get. But “hard to get” is subjective, I guess.

Right?

Thats why I think a drop rate keeping things between 2 and 400g is best. Raising that money is just about on par with building up your clovers, mats and obi shards Id say.

If you dont have anything constructive to say than dont say anything.

Im talking about the here and now.

If there’s a problem, the devs will be aware of it BUT they will take time to figure out how to fix it and then it will take time to patch the game.

There is no “here and now” when talking about a video game.

To specify “reasonably expensive” Id say anywhere between 2 and 400g. Its high enough that it isnt a handout and low enough that a player with patience and dedication can achieve it, just like with everything else. I also understand most precursors fall within that range but my point is that you can’t trust it.

A player will spend months to raise 300g only to watch the price go up another 100g.

Guess what game theyve just decided to quit? Lol

The price just needs to stay put.

I think the reality is that really everyone can deal with the grind. Its something that takes awhile yes but its something that can be done.

The RNG surrounding the clovers sucks but its also something that can be done over time. I have a BL kit specifically for any rares or exotics I find. I salvage, pick up some ectos and try for a clover. I dont go out of my way to buy them.

Its the money sink. The icy runestones are 100g. Thats not too bad honestly. Do a couple dungeons, kill the claw and buy your runestones. Its a day to day thing. Ectos can come from rares and exotics you pick up so that all works pretty well. If youre not pickin them up often enough then you buy rares/exotics with the dungeon tokens youre rackin up.

But the real issue: precursors. The issue here isnt so much the price.

Its the drop rate.

Everyone knows the RNG in the forge is either crap or so random its not worth it so everyone wants to buy off the TP.

Problem is that since noones forging them anymore (im assuming) the stock in the TP goes up in price due to demand.

The drop rates for precursors HAS to be increased to something reasonable. Theres only like 8 Colossus’ last I checked.

Only 8 worldwide?

Im not asking for easy mode. Im a fairly casual player and the legendary hunt flows smoothly utilizing the methods Ive described above. Youre playing, getting those T6 mats and ectos as you go and its all gravy until finally…

….that steady flow comes to a screeching halt when the last thing on your list is a precursor.

Now obviously you dont want everyone and their mother to have a legendary otherwise it doesnt feel as such.

I think truthfully, all anyone wants is for the drop rates to be high enough so that the cost of a precursor is both (reasonably) expensive and more importantly, STABLE.

I doubt anybody would have an issue if the cost would just stay put. Right now, it hasnt been.

Going back to the Colossus, there were 50 by the end of the Lost Shores due to the influx and the cost was around 130g.

Here we are a lil over a month later and now theres less than 20 and the cost is just over 300g.

To put it simply, I can give myself a time table in which I can acquire all my mats. Most casuals i think do this and it brings them comfort to know that If they perform X task day to day, theyll get what the want.

You cant do that with precursors.

The prices fluctuate too much for one to come up with any kind of plan because youre also spending gold on other things. Raising the gold at this point is disproportionate to the time it takes to build up the other materials.

Drop rates have to increase.

Not so much to make it easy mode but enough to stabize the market so that a player who’s actually willing to put in the time and effort actually has some semblence of hope.

That I think is what needs to happen.

If new expansion hits in 2-3 months...

Let me find back that article where Colin says they aren’t focusing on an expansion…

Speaking of the updating process- that’s one of the beauties of making a game that’s based in online, that you can constantly be updating it. But aside from continual updates for Guild Wars 2, are there any plans for bigger expansions that are kind of in the works?

Yeah, yeah, we are actively working on a bigger expansion as well. But that’s something we don’t have a real timetable set on yet. Our major focus now, like most of the companies, is live updates. But we do have a small group of people that is working on expansions and stuff down the road as well. But our big goal, what we wanted to do, is really kind of do something that no one’s ever done before in an MMO after it came out. And that’s every single month, adding giant updates to our game and do a huge release that really gives the players the sense that they’re paying their monthly fee, and every four to five months, they’re getting free expansions’ worth of content as part of logging into our game.

http://gamingbolt.com/guild-wars-2-interview-we-talk-to-areanet-about-how-the-mmorpg-has-been-doing-post-launch

Also if you read everything they have said that they won’t make an expansion every 6 months as it too hard for the development team. It’s been 4 months since release and they have been working a lot on events…

But if you really believe everything Colin says you can expect a lot of content during the next months…

Lolz

Wouldn’t be the first time a dev contradicted itself.
All this Xpac talk comes from that Korean securities firm KDB Daewoo predictingone would be coming.

They have some credibility since they predicted wed get a launch date 3 weeks before we did and plus they recently said they visited the NCsoft offices so maybe they saw something?

But who knows.

New expansion is all fine. In fact, new contents is always good. That said…

Increased level = hell no. The good thing about GW1 was that the level cap was set to 20 and the stats for max gear was never increased. Period. THIS was the holy grail of GW1.

The game (expansion) offered quite a lot of content, so you played through it for a while. Naturally, you’ll get bored after a while, so you’ll set aside the game and play something else. However, the game was good so you’ll come back after a while. And that holy grail promised you one thing. You were never left behind. Your character remained as strong as before (minus the new skills that the expansion offered) level and gear wise. It was easy for people to just jump right back in and have fun. There weren’t silly level grinds or gear grinds that you had to do to become effective again. You remained pretty much effective once you reached max status, and this was a big factor for me.

Ascended gear broke that promise in GW2 (Well, sorta. It’s not fully implemented yet, and people cried a lot so Anet backpeddaled on that one. It’s a bit too early to pass judgement so I’ll reserve my coment for now). That’s why many people are kitten off, and worry the future of GW2. I’d like to know where Anet said they’ll raise the cap in the future. Link please. But if that’s to happen, that’s two pillars broken from the original design and I’m sure there will be more cries heard from the community.

So all in all, new expansion = good. Deviating from the original design = bad. There’s enough MMORPGs out in the market. No reason for GW2 to become one of them and disappear.

In regards to raising the level cap, chris whiteside mentions it in the latest AMA he hosted on reddit. Im too lazy to find it for you cuz im on my phone but trust me when i say its there. Lol

I get that you guys want to have a minimal amount of vertical progression. I understand that logic. Not everyone likes it, but in terms of extending the life of the game and pleasing as many people as possible, the logic is sound.

But…..

What purpose does “Agony” serve?

I honestly don’t understand why it exists. My ONLY guess is that since Fractals goes on and on and on it must become more difficult, thereby providing a risk for going down further and further.

But here’s my proposition:

Get rid of Agony (cuz it’s more of an annoyance than a challenge, cmon now)
Get more creative with your encounters.

Right now Agony appears to serve as some hastily built wall meant to mask the fact that your design team isn’t creative enough to come up with encounters that provide challenge. As your fractal level increases, the encounters should become more elaborate and challenging.

Instead, we get some stupid status effect. Obviously the above assertion is false, once one plays the Colossus fractal, but in light of that fact I ask again….

….why does agony exist?

Why can’t you guys create challenge instead of producing some half-arsed developed condition. A condition whose only real purpose was probably to justify the increased stats of ascended gear.

And if that’s the case, then there’s a deeper question to be answered.

What exactly is this MMO trying to be?

Fractal Improvements!

This really just begs the question,

“Why does Agony exist?”

You can literally never have another hint of vertical progression, keeping ascended as powerful as it is and keeping the ability to customize infusions and such.

So why do we have agony?

Why is it there?

What purpose does it serve?

It doesn’t challenge.

It annoys.

Why is it there?

Just gonna take a few moments and clear up some misunderstandings:

1. Guild Wars 1 was never called by an MMO by Arenanet. Not once. We (not necessarily myself) called it that.

2. GW1 was an instanced online game. The only massive thing about it was the pool of players from which you could make a group from. In regards to exploring the world, you and yours are alone.

3. Bethesda isn’t making the Elder Scrolls Online. Zenimax is. Bethesda only provides lore support but aside from that they have no involvement whatsoever.

4. I don’t care about ascended gear.

5. Any statistics that don’t come from arenanet themselves concerning concurrent user count, deleted accounts, monthly earnings, blah blah blah……..truly do not matter. If you want an example, their plan to produce monthly updates. One would assume the gem store is doing well, yes?

A “dying” game doesn’t do that.

6. The decision to grind for limited pieces of gear before they are rolled out in the game properly is a decision of the player’s. If you get burnt out, that’s your fault. Yes it was poorly implemented, but we KNOW that it will be available in all aspects of the game in the future.

If you don’t want to make life easier on yourself and wait for that, that’s your call. Grinding fractals isn’t necessary. You won’t be left behind. There’s nothing to get in front of, really.

Impatience is the reason for your anxiety. You want the gear NOW instead of later.

Your fault. Not Anet’s.

7. A person who likes the game will play the game. A person who doesn’t won’t. The latter waste their time on the forums with conspiracy theories, wild accusations and predictions of supreme doom while in the meantime the game will thrive.

So with all that in mind here’s a central question to ask some of you complaining about ascended gear.

If it was in the game prior to launch, would you still be angry?

If so, why?

If not, why in the heck are you here? Go play the game and quit worrying about a future you can’t possibly hope to know.

So yeah, Massively Multiplayer Instanced Online RPG still sounds about right.

You could also just stick with Anet’s original label: CORPG for Cooporative Online RPG. (They changed it later to just “online roleplaying game”.)

It is not like “MMORPG” is some seal of quality, or represents a higher level of evolution within games. Quite the opposite – Most MMO’s are more miss than hit!

Looking back at my own 3 best PC-games of all time none of them were MMO’s.

I can see where this “real” MMO is headed when 80% of the population is repeatedly grinding the same instance instead of adventuring in the persistant world.
That is when this game turns into yet another “MMORPG”, geargrind, gated content and all.
Some of us had hoped for just 1 game actually doing something different.

While it was a mistake to only put ascended in the Fractals, i have no sympathy for the player who for whatever reason feels the need to grind it now instead of waiting for the gear to be evenly distributed across other areas of the game.

That is a result of impatience and self induced panic as a result of some misguided feeling of being left behind when the fact is that there’s noone really to get in front of.

As of right now no content is really gated. Sure the RNG surrpunding that ring sucks but once the gear is rolled out in full it wont matter.

Infusions will simply allow for deeper customization. Im sure whatever content that gets released will allow for varying combinations of infusions to be completed, rather than force everyone into one type (why else have the three types we have now?)

The problem here is people just assume way tooo much and freak themselves out.

Prime example:The Gem Store.

Shady prices? Sure
Crappy RNG? You betcha
Anything remotely resembling the B2W character imbalance everyone said it would be?

Yeah…no.

Run with what you know and stop freaking yourself out trying to predict “doom.”

A Massively Multiplayer Instanced Online RPG

And yes, I did make that name up

Does the definition of MMORPG include “must have persistent world?” Or just your personal definition?

(1-4 people occupying a world at any given time).

Beginning to think you never played Gw1.

To treay GW1 as the ultimate guide for how GW2 should operate is folly.

Yes, you’re right. In retrospect it WAS the height of folly for the GW1 players to think GW2 would even have a passing resemblance to GW1.

Like has been said, ANet counted on us, its loyal and longtime consumers, to kick off GW2. Otherwise it would be pointless to call it GW2.

This is why your original answer of Guild Wars to the posed question of what mmo has less grind than GW2 is…..well…..wrong.

Until this VP discussion came up I had NEVER heard of GW1 described as anything but an MMO. It’s only now, conveniently, that suddenly the arbitrary distinction is being made.

Im not sure you yourself know what youre talking about.

1. GW1 was never ever officially designated an MMO by Anet. The fans called it that. This is not a conveniance per the discussion. This is fact. Just because the fans misgidedly refer to it as an MMO, does not make it so. Im sorry youre misinformed.

2. No, an MMO does not need a persistant world in order to be considered an MMO. But MMOs, maybe all of them, have one. Soooo do that math.

3. Im pretty sure that when you leave a city, town or outpost in GW1 its just you and the four other henches or players in your own INSTANCED version of that world or dungeon. You wont see anyone else. (Yes your party size increases to about double later on but im citing general facts. At any rate your group is still on their own).

So yeah, Massively Multiplayer Instanced Online RPG still sounds about right.

lmao! Expected

It depends on how you look at it I guess. On the one hand gear helps in WvW but ultimately doesnt matter too much if youre playing to the strengths of your team/zerg.

On the other hand, if youre “soloing” WvW, gear or no gear youre doing it wrong. Lol

Guild Wars 1 was never officially called an MMO by Arenanet. The fans called it that. Technically it was a Massively Multiplayer Instanced RPG.

Technically, you just made that name up. It is a Massively Multiplayer Online RPG. It may surprise you but GW1 really was online. Now it didn’t have a persistent world as MMOs tend to have and that is the main difference between GW1 and other MMOs as far as the genre is concerned. On the other hand you could argue, as you see now in GW2 as well, that this persistent world is slapped down and then ignored. Empty zones because everybody’s in a dungeons. So in that respect, GW1 actually was more realistic in its set up.

I hate to harp on the small things but GW1 and GW2 are two very different games.

No you don’t hate to harp on small things and the fact that GW1 and GW2 are very different things isn’t even a small thing. In fact they are so different a lot of people question the name of GW2. For all intents and purposes GW2 isn’t really a sequel at all as the name would indicate.

Similar in many ways yes, but times have changed since 2005. The same rules no longer apply.

I disagree. GW2 is nothing like GW1. Some history and some names have remained but a mesmer in GW2 is nothing like a mesmer in GW1, for example. So the name is there but it’s a completely different class.

The reality is that GW2 is a completely different game and the company used the GW history because it’s easier not to have to create a new world but just build upon the existing lore. I think it would’ve been more correct if this game wouldn’t have been called GW2 but something like Tyria Online. Because I do agree that GW2 is completely different from GW1.

A Massively Multiplayer Instanced Online RPG

Sound better? -_-
The online part is a given so I dont need you reminding me that it was. And yes, I did make that name up but its accurate is it not? So dont get on me about that either, especially when all you did was change a word.

When I was referring to the small things, I meant more specifically the aforementioned classification of GW1 in relation to GW2, not so much the actual gameplay differences. But since were here…..

Was GW1 online?

Yes

But was it truly massively multiplayer?

That depends. Do 4 other people out in your own little version of the world count as “massive?”

Errr…..no.

But if you consider the pool of players from which to choose your team, then the game is very massive. Bit of a gray area in the classification.

Your response is mostly subjective opinion so in a discussion between us concerning the facts, it doesnt hold up much.

At any rate, GW1 really wasn’t an MMO. No matter how you want to slice it. It naturally was going to have a pretty laid back grind/progression due to its small scale (1-4 people occupying a world at any given time).

GW2 IS an MMO so naturally things are going to be different due to its persistant world and decidely larger scale.

I wont go into why this is because im not a developer but I will say this:

To treay GW1 as the ultimate guide for how GW2 should operate is folly. It is also naive to expect as much for two general reasons:

1. The ever changing market and the 7 year gap in which those changes took place.
2. The aforementioned fact that GW2 is a true MMO that must appeal to and does reach a much broader market than GW1 ever did.

This is why your original answer of Guild Wars to the posed question of what mmo has less grind than GW2 is…..well…..wrong.

Its the same as full rares going up against full exotics. Ascended is the new “exotic” and exotic is the new “rare.”

Wvw isnt going to be any different.

Not sure why noone understands this.

except that exotics take about 1% longer to get than rares. ascended take about 20x longer to get than exotics. big difference.

No. Again.

Ascended gear is going to be rolled out into other aspects of the game. Im assuming you, me, and everyone has no real idea how long it will take to get the gear when that happens. So the difference can’t really be known now can it?

Currently, getting that one ring is pure RNG so just as well everyone has an equal chance of getting that piece. The back pieces are somewhat difficult to make, ill give you that, but again everyone has the tools in front of them to do what’s necessary to acquire it. Its just a matter of how much time a player has or wants to spend doing so.

Just like when making the jump from rare to exotic, albeit taking a little less time.

If you’re taking forever that’s YOUR experience.

And again, once the gear is distributed as a reward across the game, WvW will be no different. As i said above, player to player balance was never the point of that mode and if youre only concerned with 1v1 scenarios then youre no good to your server and should instead play SPvP where 1v1 happens alot and everyone actually IS on an even playing field gear-wise.

So no, length of time does not matter.

Umm, since getting non ascendant gear takes the shortest time in dungeons, then it’s logical that the ascendant gear from other venues will take at least as long as the fractal grind. 20-50% higher stats also make this tier a much bigger jump than the rare to exotic one.

There’s hardly any difference in the time to get a rare vs exotic, plus I can buy both. I cannot buy ascended. So again, the comparison is laughable.

You’re right the comparison is laughable.

Because it doesn’t matter.

Maybe i should’ve specified precisely where I was going with all this but my main point is that WvW is not meant to be balanced player to player. It never was supposed to be.

We knew this prior to launch and the introduction of this new gear REGARDLESS of the jump from exotic and REGARDLESS of the time it takes players to acquire it, isn’t going to make a lick of difference in WvW.

That’s why I don’t understand why people are so worried about it. Obviously it won’t matter in SPvP either because it won’t be included or because if it is, everyone will just be bumped up on an even spread as normal.

I also don’t understand why you brought up the length of time it takes to get ascended gear as a counterargument to the fact that it doesn’t matter in WvW.

Gear never mattered in WvW. Ever. It was never meant to be balanced and it wasn’t before ascended was added.

Just the strength of your team/zerg and how well your server coordinates is what matters in WvW. Gear’s never been balanced in that mode. So why go crazy when ascended is added into the mix?

Again, if you’re concentrating on 1v1 scenarios, go play SPvP because why in the heck are you in WvW trying to kill individual players and not trying to team up and take keeps and castles?

And also don’t assume that because you can go from rare to exotic lickity split, everyone else can.

But again, that doesn’t matter in WvW.

Perhaps it doesn’t matter the way you play wvwvw. It matters for others.

And to them I say go play SPvP if they want to lone wolf it. They’re not doing their server any good.

Aside from constant class tuning and balancing, SPvP is by and large more fair than ANY encounter that can be had between two people in WvW.

I’m pretty sure balance is what people in this QQ thread want, so instead of trying to find it in a mode that’s not really supposed to have it, why aren’t they in SPvP racking up the kills they so desperately desire?

Probably because it makes too much sense.

At any rate the inevitable is going to happen. Arenanet is going to do what they want, their game will be successful, the people who like it will continue to play, the people who don’t won’t and the people who panicked will see that it’s really nbd and continue playing.

My experience in wvw, gear really doesn’t matter hardly at all. I’ve played fully top-geared 80. I’ve gone with low level, blue-greens. It’s about numbers, it’s about tactics, it’s about siege and upgrades. My staff is some lvl 65 green, but I get more kills with it than my exotics because of range.

I’m sure in some situations it can matter. But in gw2, gear just doesn’t matter anything like it does in other games. Full exotic set is less than a quarter of your stats, anyway.

But the genre, from way back in paper-pencil days, revolves around advancing your character and getting phat lewts. So that idea remains prevalent in GW2 players, regardless of the math behind the system.

And hey, who don’t luv a shiny new bauble? (even if it’s virtual)

I’m sorry, I find it hard to believe you’ve done low levels and undergeared play in WvW and think it doesn’t matter. A low level gets absolutely crushed. You simply won’t win a 1v1 or do near the damage of a lvl 80 in exotics. Individually it might not feel like your gear makes a difference but it does, basically you are forcing your server to pick up your slack. If there was a server of lvl 80’s in exotics vs a server of low levels or in non exotics, the low levels/non-exotics would get absolutely CRUSHED.As for your staff you get more kills because it’s ranged but what if you had an 80 exotic staff, YOU WOULD GET MORE KILLS!

Just because you cannot see the difference does not mean that is isn’t there.

Beyond every server having an equal chance at success, player to player balance was never the point. This was told to us pre-release. This is nothing new.

And two things:

1. How often are you in a 1v1 situation in WvW, really? Cmon now.

2. If youre in full exotics/ascended, lone wolfing it or actively engaging or trying to 1v1 people and get as many kills as possible, then a player in full masterwork trying to take towers and keeps with his guild or a zerg is more useful to the server than you.

Also, a full server in exotics and a full server in low level gear?

Now youre just being unrealistic to make a useless argument.

I would say knowledge of whether someone is wearing ascended is relevant because if you cant even tell that the character has it on then how can you assess whether the reason you feel the other player had an advantage is due to gear or your own lack of skill compared to theirs?

You simply assume the former and deny the latter until prove otherwise? How…interesting. Id just like a basic idea of the facts that you follow in order to reach the undeniable conclusion that someone beat you only because they had on 3 pieces of ascended gear.

It is irrelevant, because you don’t need to fight anyone, statisically ascended gear is an advantage, it is a fact and yes, as pointed out many times, currently it is only a tiny advantage that will probably not make any difference 99.5% of the time, but as they roll it out to other slots and add tiers of infusions, then yes it will make a difference.

Some of us bought the game on what they actually said pre-release, a gear treadmill was not part of that, this game was sold on being different, LOL.

That would be true except for you picked an article to defend where the poster said explicitly that there were roving patches of people with ascended apparently owning everyone else….so yes, being able to tell if they were in ascended is relevant. Now as to whether its an advantage or not, the only thing I will state is that you can achieve slightly higher stats with it and not necessarily the stats you want.

And what about full rares vs full exotics? I didnt see nearly as many of those arguments as i do now that big bad ascended has come into the fray.

WvW is no different now than it was without ascended gear so no, knowing AND not knowing who’s wearing what are BOTH irrelevant.

Not trying to be rude but people need to understand this fact. Lol

Currently, ascended gear isnt included in SPvP sooo no advantage there. If it was, everyone would be bumped up as normal.

Ascended may give some advantage in WvW but its literally no different than a situation in which little John decided to go in with full rares and came up against big jimmy in full exotics. The advantage or disadvantage in WvW is the same as it was pre-ascended and really, how often are you 1v1ing in WvW anyway? Cmon. Lol

As far as Fractal grinds go and players becoming segregated and/or bored, it is the choice of that player to continue running fractals before the levels become tiered and before ascended gear is rolled out in other aspects of the game and at that point the acquisition of that armor won’t be much different than it was acquiring exotic. So the choice is the players: wait and go about things as normal until things are better structured or grind now in some self-induced panic as a result of feeling “left out.”

All theories and predictions aside about vertical progression (none of which I doubt the majority of the community cares about at the end of the day anyway, despite what is said on this QQ threads) the ONLY gripe I feel we should have against ascended is the infusions and their implied necessity against presumed future boss condition mechanics.

THAT is what would remove skill from the game, not the gear itself.

HOWEVER….

As we do not yet know what kinds of mechanics future dungeons will introduce, its entirely possible that a well organized group of players with varying combinations of slotted infusions can tackle new content instead of each player feeling the need to slot the same infusion for any given encounter.

These are the things that are on the table right NOW. And honestly with that in mind, if youre still enjoying the game than do just that.

Quit worrying about the future. Quit trying to spell out doom and gloom because we just dont know.

Remember how everyone flipped out about the gem store?

Aside from grievances about prices and RNG, the gem store isnt really the issue everyone thought it was going to be now is it?

Same with ascended gear.

Based on what we know its just not that big a deal.

If ascended gear was in the game on release, and the same means to get it , would you still have bought the game?

Why does everyone automatically assume people with ascended gear will just dominate you in WvW? You will get rolled on with all greens or all exotics / ascended either way, It’s mainly the numbers that count. If you don’t bother to play because the enemy slightly outgears you, then thats just dumb imo. "Ohhh I played hundreds of hours to get my full exotic gear, but now I can’t win because someone has more time to get slightly better stats than me =(((( ".

Getting ascended is a grind eh? It’s no less of a grind than getting your exotics.

It almost looks like people are just finding any reason to quit, and not willing to admit they got their money’s worth of the game. Same with this game and every other MMO game you’ve played, you get everything and you’ll have nothing left to do. You’ll get bored, and find something else to do.

Ascended gear will eventually be made available in almost all aspects of the game. Fractals will not remain the end all be all.

The vertical progression is only going to come in the form of infusion slots. Combine that with the aforementioned future and there isnt going to be any pressure to keep up with new content.

Youll just play the game as normal, find/craft your ascended gear as you would with exotics (there wont be anymore tiers after ascended) and then youll simply make the infusions to customize your gear for whatever content they roll out.

Wow, sounds alot like what weve been doing.

Gove em time to put these plans to work and these “panic threads” will die.

What do you feel like you actually need to buy in GW2? Bags, and ??

The way it’s set up, you can easily level up without worrying about gear. Once 80, you can go masterwork-rare-exotic progression in a bunch of different ways. Get dungeon weapons, get karma armor, gather up for your jewels. Invaders’ if you’re one of those types. Oh and rings and back from fotm if you want.

It’s not like games where you have to spend a huge amount for your spells/skills, or a mount or anything. Top tier gear, except for necklace and earrings can all be obtained without a gold. And hey, we just got a fancy earring from the lost shores fiasco.

Im not sure youre on the same page as everyone else. Its not just about gear. To do what you want, to build the character the way you want, to repair, to travel, etc

It all takes money. Money that is not coming at a rate that is balanced. It cant be too fast and it cant be too slow.

Right now its too slow so gold sellers and sleepless farmers are causing prices to continuously go up because i feel the majority of us feel rich with 10g. Lol

Part of that is maybe because there is currently no time limit on posting an item on the AH. So whatever was posted a month before is still there, even if the price probably already changed.

If I wanted to remove an item from the AH and resell it, I have to remember to do so. The UI to do so is there, but is also a bit out of the way. It took me a few days to even know that I can remove items from the post in the first place.

I think a time limit on TP items would benefit the economy greatly.

Cost too high? Dont buy. The seller sees this and costs go down to something more reasonable.

Unfortunately itd be incredibly difficult to put a timestamp on each individual seller’s items in a global market. That would consist of endless lists of auctions. However the implementation of some sort of “control” variable i think would help immensely.

Im sure theres some poor kid out there waiting for his greatsaw sword skin to sell for 100g. Lol

I get Anet’s reasoning. They base their notion of the “anti-grind” on the strength of their gameplay which is, i believe safe to say, fun for all of us.

But even fun, awesome, stupendous gameplay cannot dissuade a gamer from going to an outside source for virtual financial help because the price of success is ludicrous.

I understand the stigma towards all gold sellers. They msy be sweatshops. They may be slavers. But all the player is seeing is an organization thats making good on their word to make them rich.

An in-game alternate method is needed. Obviously itll never beat the bargains of the other guys, but its not meant to.
Its only meant to be a viable option.

Right now GW2 has none.

The most basic thing I think we can ask for is level appropriate drops and tiers from events and dungeons.

Blues and greens from a level 75 dragon encounter is unacceptable and very disheartening.

It is a fine balance but one I feel that they have not addressed properly yet. There does need to be some MAJOR adjustment to rewards. Not just for the economy but so that people will feel rewarded.

In example, I did Balthazar last night. The mechanic is idiotic to begin with but it took us over an hour to bring him down and we only did so because his healing glitched twice. First and foremost this was NOT fun and nobody felt like they even accomplished anything because the only way to win it was to wait for a glitch.

Now on to the main point again. The end chest of this hour+ long fight dumped mostly greens for everyone. Not one person got even a yellow. The monetary reward was a few silver. That has to change. An hour long fight should reward far better than that just so that people are not asking “WT*, I did all that for this crap?”

We are fighting hard, high level bosses. A yellow should be a given and an exotic should be something that would drop from such a fight more than 50% of the time. Just doing that would lower many of the prices on the TP.

Considering how much it costs to finish off a legendary the drop rate for precursors should but multiplied by 10 at the bare minimum and the places they drop should be far and wide. I say this because people were so concerned that their precursors would lose value after they dropped from the Karka end chest. This did not happen. Prices went UP! All this shows is that it is still a sellers market

A lil off topic but for Balthazar, just bring 10-15 people. Ots perfect scaling. Me and my guild tested it out last night so if that truly was the optimal number and it worked like a charm. We completed the northern chain, escorted the pact, and downed him in 2 and a half min out of the 8 they give you. No champions spawned. Nothing. It was perfect.

Just 10-15 people. Sorry if you encountered bugs like that but otherwise thats all you need.

Ok back on topic now.

Printing more money never helped any economy.

A lot of people on different threads talk about prices inflating, which isn’t 100% accurate. Inflation occurs when the buying power of your money decreases. Now, when looking at the lvl 80 market (precursors, T6 mats, buyable exotics, etc.) you say, “Hey, everything across the board is getting more expensive, yet I’m not really making more gold!”
This certainly sounds like inflation, however, it could also be that there is incredibly higher demand that is outstripping the supply. Which given that the game has been out for 3 months and the vast majority of people have at least 1 level 80 if not 2-5, anything level 80 should be in high demand.

To get a better feel for if your gold is being devalued through inflation, you’d need to take a wide variety of samples of the market and see what trends they have. This would produce numbers more like a Consumer Price Index or a Producer Price Index.

Arenanet doesn’t give out enough gold rewards or provides a means to make money that counters the sellers who ARE legit.

First things first, never believe a gold seller is legit. It’ll be safer for everyone in the long run. o_o-b

Okay, so to my main point, then. Increasing the amount of gold rewards or providing more means to make gold gives Everybody – normal players, gold sellers, that one guy you really hate who bosses you around in dungeons – the same Opportunities across the board.

If the developers were to say make all DEs reward 1 gold instead of the handful of silver you earn, you might think you’d be stoked. “Sweet, Dusk should only take me a week to get!”
However, you’d check back in a week and you’d see that the price of Dusk will have risen to 40,000 gold. Additionally, Gold sellers will advertise prices more like 4 dollars per 1000 gold.

In the end, this idea would really just hurt people who gain most of their income through vendoring blues and greens 1-2 silver. Which I suspect is a surprisingly large group of people. You might as well burn them for warmth instead of using them to buy firewood.

Gold sellers win when the morale of a player is crushed by the sheer sight of the cost of their precursor.

I think this is an important point. Not for the reason you make it, though. In the end, Arenanet is combating gold sellers by attempting to cut of their supply while protecting the normal gamers – you and I – as much as they can.

What I take away from the point you made is that it is us, the players, who are responsible for our own attitude. Stop thinking of yourselves in a place where someone else has to make you happy, because it also puts you in a place where someone else dictates when you are sad.

I see your point and I completely agree.

It just doesnt feeeel right. I dunno. Like i said itd be a hard balance to achieve if an effort was to be made and im sure one is being made but currently its just there not there.

Drop rates of some specific items need to be increased.

Obviously if you want Twilight, youll keep Dusk. But out of the tens of hundreds of thousands playing and out of everyone in that pool who doesnt want Twilight but picks up Dusk, Im to believe that as if last night theres only 3 in the TP.

Just 3.

Thats crap drop rate. Lol

Maybe we shouldnt be rewarded more financially, Zi understsnd you there.

But there are certain items and mats in the economy that an average player is just not seeing enough of.

Again, 20 gold for a dye is laughable. Lol

80 content should not reward blues and greens for starters.

But like i said, i dunno for sure.

What I do know is that gold sellers and sleepless grinders are screwing us. Lol

We’ve all seen them.
They post spam in chat and send you mails in broken english telling you how fast they are and how fantastic their prices are.

Sure these guys pose a problem but there’s a larger one:

Arenanet doesn’t give out enough gold rewards or provides a means to make money that counters the sellers who ARE legit.

They exist. They take their job seriously, provide adequate security concerning your personal info and have been providing bargain prices since the inception of WoW.

800 gems typically gets you between 4 and 8 gold, depending on the current exchange rate. Thats 10 dollars.

At one of these legitimate sites, 4 dollars can get you between 10 and 15 gold.
50 dollars is close to 100g.

When Dusk is currently selling on the TP for 400g and you can really only currently expect to make 2-5g a day if you really try, between the gem store and a professional gold seller, which is the better bargain?

Sure. A legendary is meant to be a long term goal. It could take years to get. But im not talking about just legendaries and their precursors.

High end mats
Exotic armor
Cultural armors
Rare dyes

All these and more require large amounts of moolah and theyre not getting any cheaper.

Why is abyss dye 20 gold?

You gonna farm for that?

There’s a fine line between playing to achieve a long term reward and not playing at all because the cost of success is obscene to the point of being comical.

Arenanet needs to work on providing a viable counter method of making gold that would attract players who dont wish to spend money to be virtually wealthy.

I understand that grinding this and that will make you rich in the long run but im guessing the majority of players either dont want to do that because it would begin to feel like a job, or they simply dont have the time.

Legendaries are obtainable by all types of gamers.

But the cost is just too ridiculous.

Its going up.

Our rewards need to scale with it, even if it means simply rewarding 75s at the end of a dungeon instead of 23.

Gold sellers win when the morale of a player is crushed by the sheer sight of the cost of their precursor.

Im not trying to be greedy. I dont want to sound like I want Anet to give me everything.

But when prices are continuously going up and gold making methods are being nerfed and all the while our rewards are in some sort of developement limbo land……..Anet loses money to a gold seller.

I dont know how to achieve the balance i desire, where a casual player can still work for his reward in a reasonable amount of time without feeling the itch to go to a gold seller and without feeling catered to.

But it needs to be struck.

And these blues and greens i just looted off jormag are telling me that the teeter totter is horribly off balance.

Lol. Feersum Endjinn, i can see that you are mad. what’s the point? Like what many people said, Enjoy the Game and not care about rewards. True that reward is the movtiation that drives players to play more.

I too speak for those players who unable to attend the event. What about those who wish to attend but unable to attend due to Timezone problem? How you going to compensate them? As i already stated, so long AN fixed up on all their coding for future events, will you think such issue will happened again? And everyone will be able to get their rewards for participating. If they didn’t fixed up, same thing happened again, you will make noise again! Right? See the long term, and not short term benefiting only to yourself and not to others.

Stop pressuring AN, they are trying their best to rectified it. I’m sad to see that there’s so many post that (players who DC)asking for LS event loots but there isn’t any post that speak up for those who can’t attend the event.

Well, this is nothing to do with those of you who couldn’t attend the event, this is about those that did attend the many hours of the event, put up with about 1 frame per minute issues, got all the way through the event and then got kicked right at the end.

If you didn’t play the event, then that is a different issue and has nothing to do with this thread, start your own instead to complain about the timings of one time events.

Its now Wednesday and still nothing from A-Net. If I was part of their marketing or customer relations department, I would be hanging my head in shame. If I was part of any other department, I would be trying to get the marketing department to do something, a little communication goes a long way you know A-Net!

Heres a question I dont think anyones actually thought of, least not on these boards.

How?

How will they identify who was there and who wasnt? How will they sort through the players who finished, the players who DC’d and the players who didnt DC but left to go do something else?

Lets assume they can.

Thats a kittenton worth of data to look through and even knowing where to start is probably a challenge. If theyre able to narrow down those facts then great.

But its gonna take a loooooooooooong time. At least a few months Id give them.

Realize that.

Also realize that if they cant narrow it down, then the safest bet would be to send everyone, regardless of who was there or not, 1 gold and that 20 slot box because out of all the stuff people got, that was the constant among all of them (at least 1g from selling those exotics).

All this im sure is being worked on but understand that it will take a backseat to more important things:

Bug fixes
Patches
Content updates
Etc

The game has to keep going. Theyre not just gonna drop everything to work out this Lost shores compensation BS.

They need time and will take time.

So its not a matter of communication in this case.

Its common sense.

Be patient.

Im not exactly sure how well you guys expect to be compensated. In other words, i wouldnt expect more thsn an exotic and a handful of gold cuz thats what MOST people got out of it.

Im one of the ones who willingly sat out because of the bugs.

Am I mad that I did? Nope.
Would i be irritated that i got DC’d and no reward. Sure………for about a day.

The game has no sub. That should be compensation enough. Sure it doesnt mean they can just slack off in development, but it also mesns that when mistskes ARE made, a simple glimpse at the bigger picture will show you youre being rewarded enough as it is.

So quit beating a dead horse.

Already found/bought 4 named exotics from playing since that whole event for example.

Let it go.
