My Feedback for GW2 - What could be improved

I personally have quit playing because of the sheer lack of being rewarded for my time playing.

Rewards are consistently crappy, breeding a player base of loot cynics.

Blues from Jormag.

Why?

Why get blues AT ALL from a 70+ zone?

People can’t even level purely off drops. WHO DOES THAT?

Too much RNG, just too much. So I’m out.

I’ve gone back to WoW for the time being because even though the gameplay is arguably repetitive, at least when you set a goal for yourself you can reach it within a feasible amount of time. And along the way, waddy a know? I get rewards RELEVANT to my level.

Post your legendary progress!

I like this game, but it’s sad to think that one of the big reasons i’m excited for the elder scrolls online is the chance to be REWARDED for the things I do in that game.

I feel like i’m crawling through the desert digging for water in this game.

You have to think of it in less of a gameplay context and more of an actual story context.

They’re not in a rush because whatever displaced these people has already done so. The roads are littered with the dead who never made it to the cities. Right now we are in recovery mode, repairing signs to lead the refugees to the cities and light fires to help keep the encampments warm.

I was approaching it from a story perspective.

It’s been over a week where refugees have been flooding in. We’ve done our part to guide them in and give them a warm welcome, but now, we — the heroes — are standing back and continuing on with our own things.

Logically after a week we would be marshaling a response, attempting to find answers, and generally working to solve the problem. From a story perspective we have done our part to guide the people, it’s the cities’ jobs to grant them comfort now.

We are heroes, we should by now be gearing up to see what has threatened these people, not only to win their homes back, but also to make sure it doesn’t spread and threaten the rest of us.

This would obviously follow in a gameplay response, as in the Vigil preparing men to send out, the Priory gathering information, while the Whispers reconnoiter to investigate the issue, while we stand behind them to get to the bottom of this.

It’s kind of hard to explain but you have to look at it from a story perspective whilst at the same time removing yourself from the plot.

It’s been weeks and weeks on our end but within the story, the lore of the game, it might only have been a day or two. It’s kind of like in a movie where the protagonist gets out of a car and then the camera cuts to him getting out of the shower in his apartment. For us, it’s been one second. For them, in the story, it’s been 20 minutes.

The vigil and the other orders could very well be trying to find answers. When that happens (hypothetically speaking) it could very well be written in the lore that it happened 5 days after the refugees first started flocking to the cities.

It’s kind of like how in WoW there’s no real lore explanation for all these “heroes” running around saving the world and doing these quests for various NPC’s. We’re just there. lol

Sadly once again there is no new PVE content, heaps to do for fans of PVP, but we have had no new PVE content introduced since Fractals.

Im starting to think there is no point playing this game anymore as clearly the developers have no interest in PVE.

We were promised an “expansion worth of content”, ArenaNet has failed to deliver on this promise thus far.

another player misinterprets the devs…….

When he said that he meant that OVER THE NEXT FEW MONTHS we’re going to be getting an Xpac’s worth of content. Not all at once. You’re gonna quit after a simple patch displeases you? There’s no sub? Waddya gonna do, uninstall the icon from your desktop?

facepalm

No, but people expect a bit more than regular content patches, delivered by most common MMOs if they are promised “an expansion worth of content”.

For what I see, nothing in the February update looks like it is worth to be part of an expansion…

That’s because you misinterpreted the statement.

These content updates are happening over the next few months and altogether they will make up the sort of content that you would find in an Xpac.

If I said I had an apple every monday for a month, I wouldn’t say “MAN I HAD APPLES ALL MONTH!”, now would I?

C’mon, with that argumentation, ever singe AAA MMO out there is offering xpack worth of content all the time. Book updated in LotRO, xpack worth of content. Patch for that real big MMO I do not like, xpack worth of content.

Sorry, that does not work.

Releasing stuff fast means more bugs, which means more complaints. Asides from that, let’s not jump to conclusions. We don’t know what March is like. Heck, the February update might be even bigger than you think it is.

This are just excuses though. All this has already been delayed for at least one month. WvW update has been delayed till March.
Just ask yourself what you would expect to see in an expansion, and if that will be in the next few updates or not.

No no landmass, no new profession, no new race.
New dungeons? I doubt that there will be more than one, or any at all.
New story? Well, we had a very weak start on that topic.

Who would buy such an expasion, at least if the person is interested in PvE?

Like I said, unless we know what is actually being released, there’s no use complaining about it now. You wouldn’t complain about a product you didn’t buy right?

^this

Not to mention again, but all this stuff is free.

People just need to be patient. Good lord.

It does actually.

These are additions to the game that actually change the way we play it and they’re happening over a fairly long period of time. Xpacs do that, but we get it all at once after being developed over a long period of time.

Understand?

Over a long period of time, GW2 via monthly updates will give us an Xpac’s worth of content because it’s content that changes things. They are additions.

You’re examples reference bug fixes and patches that barely impact the player (unless it’s balance tweaks or something). These do not count as content updates. They’re called hotfixes.

There’s a difference. I’m sure you know this.

From a story perspective, it’s perfectly acceptable that this is happening over the course of weeks and weeks. From a gameplay perspective, it’s not since well…we’re impatient kittens. lolz

We have to admit that about ourselves. lol

Don’t look at the living story as simply more content. Look at it truthfully as something that’s living and it takes awhile for things that are living to evolve.

Think of it this way, our impatience is bred mostly out of curiosity surrounding the events that led these refugees here.

In that respect, the living story is working as intended.

Before this becomes a thread full of fanboys bullrushing you…..

The beauty of this game is truthfully in it’s B2P model. We can whine and moan about the systems therein all we want but at the end of the day if we’re generally “done” for whatever reason, we can just move on. No fee to worry about paying at the end of the month. No pay cycle to let run dry while YOU do other things.

For example I’ll have no problem if the upcoming Elder Scrolls Online has a monthly fee because i’ll have 2 mmos for the price of one.

So do whatcha gotta do. If there’s nothing left for you then move on until they put out something that interests you. Monthly updates means you’ll feel obligated to check back often so you’ll never really leave anyway

Once you've got Dungeon gear, then what?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Oreoz.2573

Oreoz.2573

I don’t think I could find anything in crafting that has the same diversity of stat combos as dungeon sets. I’m not a fan of the “Carrion” or “Clerics” or other standard naming convention craftable sets. I wish I could craft my stat combo, but it looks like dungeons is where it’s at for me.

That’s not to say it’s a bad thing. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my progression seeing how terrible I was when I started them and where I am today. I also make several gold a night getting my paths completed, so that almost warrants the runs in of itself. I don’t delude myself into thinking I’m going to have a grind-free experience in MMOs since the grind is what keeps people latched and interested for the long term. I already find myself starting to lose interest now that I don’t have much to aim for anymore, which is sort of why I made this topic. I was hoping I was missing something so I have a new, tangible and substantive goal to work toward.

Right now, beyond gearing up to your liking, their truthfully isn’t much else.

I believe Arenanet knew this from the get go, which is why they’re pushing out these monthly updates.
While its disheartening that for anyone not interested in legendaries or rolling alts there isn’t much endgame, take comfort in the knowledge that it is a B2P game that you can pick up and put down whenever.

There are systems coming down the pipeline that hopefully will improve the PvEmeta game for some people.

I don’t care if its been nerfed or not.

They took an already challenging fight that required coordination and an even focus on the boss and his shades and COMPLETELY and utterly DILUTED it with an element of PURE CHAOS that throws all that out the window and once again ushers in an attitude of massive Zerg over basic teamwork.

Arenanet, hear me. You do not know how to design bosses. Fractals, notwithstanding as I’m convinced those were a completely different team.

That being said, I would’ve phased it.

In the beginning you deal with the ice shards, the AoE lift and the Priest. That’s it. The AoE is challenging but manageable as that’s all you’re dealing with.

Then at 50%, Jonez calls out that something is happening and the portals and shades begin to appear. The AoE lift is dropped, the ice shards are kept and the shades persist till the end. Now we have a healthy balance of AoE maneuvering, boss DPSing and shade management. Not too hard but not too easy.

As it stands right now a player’s focus is stretched far too thin whether he’s on the shades or on the boss. The AoEs take priority whereas the shades should be the focus as they make a beeline for Jonez. AoE should simply be, as MOBA players would put it, harassment meant to test the ability of a player to navigate a hostile environment whilst working towards an objective.

Right now the main objective is to stay out of the AoE and that’s wrong. The main objective should be the shades but no one can focus on them because of the over abundant AoE.

in Dynamic Events

Posted by: Oreoz.2573

Oreoz.2573

I don’t understand why those AoEs were added in the first place.

That used to be one of my favorite temple bosses because his mechanics were actually FUN.

FUN.

Two groups, one on shades and one on boss and the dynamic of those groups switching roles when the debuff became too much to bear and all the while making sure Jonez is protected…..that was FUN. It required skill and coordination and I loved the Corruption mechanic with the shades.

But how in the heck are you supposed to coordinate anything when you people decide to throw in an element of complete and utter chaos in the form of gratuitous amounts of AoEs? Wtf?

It completely and utterly ruined the encounter for me and not even because it’s harder than it’s worth, but because it’s clear you guys felt that the Priest himself didn’t do enough and instead of giving him another third, interesting mechanic, you decide to go the completely uninspired route and fill the room with AoEs. Nice. Real nice.

The risk USED to be worth the reward with this fight but now it’s not. not at all.

I understand the idea that Orr is all about players coordinating together and taking back parts of the peninsula, but Arenanet needs to understand that won’t happen with randoms. And because the rewards aren’t worth the effort (especially freakin now), you can bet no guilds are gonna go out of their way to do their server a favor. At least not often enough to matter.

This stuff takes time to devalop and test and all that such stuff.
Also A-net and us as customer’s have found that just smashing content out ofer one week or weekend locks out alot of players and there needs to be time for everyone to try it if thay can.

Just the fact that there doing this is pretty amazing as this is often the type of game story telling you only see in something like a mudd

This stuff is already done and put on our client.

patience young padewan. (spelling?)

It will come in phases, but they’re going about it slowly and methodically instead of just hitting us all at once like they have been. There’s no law (as far as storytelling goes) that says these refugees can’t camp out for two or three weeks before whatever supplanted them decides to make itself known.

All we know is they’re there and they’re seeking shelter. From a story perspective, that’s all Anet needs to show.

Which means you didn’t read my post since I specifically means I didn’t want a bunch of content from it, just to see one more refugee appear in town or something.

dictating how we play

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

It is a choice to decide to do the dailies, no one is forcing you or anyone else to complete them.

Just like it is a choice to acquire Legendary weapon skins.

I do not feel forced into doing any of these things, if i want the reward for there completion then i will work on completing it.

this sort of response is puerile tbh. EVERYONE knows they can choose not to do any given part of the game. it doesnt need repeating and offers nothing to a discussion.
I can choose to not go to my work i can choose to not even play the game etc etc.

now do you think a succesful business model is based on the ethos that " ach if they dont like it they can go do something else" ?
Stuff is added to the game to be fun and DESIRABLE to take part in , and if for any reason people feel its UNDESIRABLE for them to take part then perhaps there,s a problem.
folk enjoy daily rewards they just arn’t so keen for time to be taken up by doing stuff they dont enjoy to get it.
after all if i do 40 events in a day then havent i earned my daily as much as the guy who slavishly runs all over the map doing what the boss man says ticking off random tasks to get his?

We’ll eventually get the ability to say I’ll do X of Y things where Y is a higher number than X. So those that don’t want to do dungeons or do WvW can still get the monthly.

Then it will become more like leveling up. Y things will gain you levels. You can choose to omit some, but if you omit too many, you won’t achieve what you want to achieve (be it the daily, monthly, or speed of leveling up).

But right now we have to suck it up and hope ANet releases that sooner rather than later.

There’s this game called skyrim that everyone tells me it’s ‘sand-box’ and I can play it the way I want to play.

So I decided I want to kill everyone in game only to find out that I couldn’t because – you’re not gonna believe this – some npc are vital to some stupid quest I have zero care about.

Ok so killing everyone in game is out of the window. Boo.

I decided I’m gonna try to ally Alduin the big bad dragon and destroy the world but guess what? I can’t. Instead I have to travel to the top of this ridiculously tall mountains, listen to all these poor old people preach about the way of some voice, Get this scroll from some place with names I can’t pronounce, learn some trick from some old fart in another century and travel to some norn mythical land – which is kinda strange because I’m a Khajit – and help some dead norn ghost to kill Alduin. Non negotiable.

Ok so I can’t do what I want. Maybe I’ll just do some dailies… oh wait there is none. MFFFFFFFFFFFFF

That’s when it hit me : Skyrim was pretty sad. It’s dictating me, telling me ‘oh no you can only play like this, you can’t help alduin, you can’t kill children and if you touch any of the chicken I will break you’, forcing me to play the way the devs intended me to play. which is wandering in a big block of ice helping a bunch of people whose name i forget as soon as I pass them by.

So I thought sod it I’m gonna go try minecraft.
But guess what? I now have to walk around in a giant field of nothing wasting an entire days so I can build a small shack with doors. Why can’t I just spawn a house, add some traps and wait for zombies to come?

The world sure is full of dictators.

PS. in case if you’re not getting the hint : Daily is not the play. Killing monsters, crafting stuff, pvping and dungeons IS the play. They just add daily so you feel better about doing them.

I don’t understand why you play video games.

Regarding the OP, we can only advise you to contact our customer support and make an appeal for the ban that in your opinion isn’t justified. Indeed, the moderation team doesn’t investigate those issues. Thank you for your understanding.”

My guildee has been banned twice now in 3 weeks for being a gold seller.

He sent 20g to a friend. First ban.

Got the account unbanned then banned again after sending more money to a guildee. Ironically he got that email the same day as he got the “ticket resolved” email.

I should mention also that he lives in China.

I can only surmise that their system flags “large” (20g?) quantities of gold being sent from Asian based accounts.

The fact that this has happened twice now proves that each ban is anything but thorough. And he’s still waiting for a response from Anet.

How can he possibly say that when the success of that game allowed them to develop this one? How stagnate could it possibly have been when it was Anet’s most successful title?

Well Guildwars 1 did have stagnant progression, the level cap was the same from release. And I think Guildwars 2 is their most successful title.

well it’s a matter of opinion but it did sell over 7 mill copies and help fund development of this game which has sold 3 million so far. The stagnation could not have been that bad.

I would need the actual quote from Chris.W to discuss any further, but if he did say it then it must have had a good reason to say it.

It was in the most recent AMA on reddit, the one where everyone bombarded him with ascended inquiries. lol

Developers will say whatever sounds reasonable to justify decisions they may make but the proof is in the pudding that whether or not it was because it stopped at level 20, GW1 sold and made them rich.

Oreoz.2573

That’s pretty much the last straw for most players if they increase the level cap.

Why would it be? They never stated that they weren’t going to increase the level cap. They in fact stated it multiple times that would increase it and also add new tiers of gear. This isn’t Guildwars 1 and it was never intended to be, People enjoyed the game from 1-80 right? What’s stopping them from enjoying it 80-90?

Look at how far WoW’s come and look at how unbelievably ridiculous those numbers now are? It’s ridiculous. Noone wants to worry about stats anymore. Statistical increases are simply a way to keep players playing but it’s truthfully not needed.

I’ll give you an example of why noone wants more levels and it doesn’t even have anything to do with power creep.

Take the frost brood mount in WoW. You get that out of Icecrown citadel. Well that was two Xpacs ago. Noone goes there because it’s “old” content. Noone wants to do it anymore because it’s not beneficial whatsover to them.

Sure now you can go in solo but who really wants to solo a raid?

There’s no need for a higher level in GW2.

I want to progress my toon by achieving higher levels of PRESTIGE through armor, weapons, titles and so on.

There are far better and far more enriching paths to progression than going from +10 to +20.

Not to mention class balancing would no longer be an issue. Once they’ve reached a balance that they and the player base can agree on, that’s it. It’s done. No more numbers.

There’s so much more potential for simple customization that would EASILY take the place of normal numbered progression………it’s just stupid to raise the level cap.

Again, I say no.

Just add content. That’s it. That’s how we’ll progress. I don’t understand why you feel we need numbers. Not one bit.

Add more zones for lowbies.
Add more zones for max levels.
Add more zones for inbetween.

Supplement those zones with new weapons and armor that we can acquire through quests and dungeons and such.

WHY is more power needed?

Why commit to worrying about numbers and vertical progression when players would rather have you provide rich content devoid of any of those worries?

Why focus on spreadsheets when you can focus on developing a world for your players to play in?

WE DO NOT NEED MORE POWER.

Oreoz.2573

No. Don’t want it. Don’t need it.

There’s no need whatsover to increase our power. People are used to ascended gear by now and things will even out again once Anet rolls it out in full.

To raise the bar again is just……no.

Progression does NOT mean we need to get more powerful.

This game and any mmo for that matter would be so much better if progression was achieved through the exploration of new content and the acquisition of new gear. Imagine what a breath of fresh air it would be if the devs weren’t bound by the worry of how something is going to be handled statistically and instead devoted all their time to simply making the world better, to putting more in it?

Progression through aesthetics, NOT through stupid numbers.

Is this really it for the "Living storty"?

I really love the concept of the Livng story system. A long term story that has subtle changes you see over time. A dev mentioned you might see a new NPC here a new building there, and over time things would change.

The problem I’m having here is it’s not happening. I’m not saying I want to be fighting some boss or I want a new event, but what I want is to see changes. I expected by now we’d atleast see the Refugee camp in the Norn town to be a bit bigger, or see more Refugees walking around. Or maybe some kind of way to donate to build shelters.

Instead it’s a week with the same few Refugees sitting in the same three tents in the same area. Apparently all the refugees we help into town just stop existing and one hundred of them can’t generate one extra NPC in the camp…

Why can’t there be more phases to this living story system? I don’t mind slow progress, but I want there to be progress, something shown, development.. Not just the same thing until suddenly there’s some big change..

patience young padewan.

Well to start with you are making poor choices for weapon combos.

i doubt the truth in this statement. it depends on what he’s doing. i myself run a sword/shield//scepter/shield and i have absolutely no problems in pve, dungeons nor wvw. besides, he can’t change his shield out for the legendary focus now can he?

When you run a guardian with shield unless the situation calls for it you get labeled as a pug. Fact. So if thats what you want or you just plain like shield thats fine, I guess.

Um, not fact. Not to derail the thread but ONLY run a mace and shield in dungeons and people are pretty dang thankful for my heals and overall survivability. I “tanked” Kohler the other night for a pug without meaning to. I just looked and they were all LoS-ing him. lol

ANYWAY……

I’d go for the Moot AND Sunrise.

The reason for this is that (precursor notwithstanding) the unique materials needed for the Moot are easy as pie to get.

100 Opal orbs (just over 2g on the TP)
5 Boxes O Fun (you decide how you get these, gold or real money)
Gift of the Nobleman (probably the biggest downside since this dungeon isn’t especially good)
250 Gossamer Bolts

But most importantly…….NO LODESTONE REQUIREMENT.

So I’d get it first and marvel at it’s majesty while you work towards sunrise.

i loved the open world during levelling up an gearing up.
but now its too easy, boring.
i was forcing myself to do the living story… it was no challenge whatsoever.
came up into a flame legion camp like a kitten truck.
i bashed them like there is no tomorrow and it felt.. boring.

so mostly. im a dungeon runner now.
either that or do an alt.
(no, i wont “grind” orr or destroy a lvl 15 map with my lvl 80 toon)

the dailys for me are not fun to do.

just so you’re aware, the Living Story hasn’t really started yet. Right now we just have that title to work towards and those handful of events that have been added in to Wayfarer and Diessa.

Don’t take it at face value. It hasn’t begun.

I’d agree with you if the dailies weren’t stupid easy.

But seeing as how they are…..

I really don’t care what Anet puts in that box. So long as it works (hi, combo killer lol)

I too desire more information on this. Or at least having it added to the total makeover so it can actually be “total.” Paying separately for a name change would just be extortion.

I forgot to mention – I didn’t agree with the one-time Lost Shores event either, despite me benefiting enormously from it.

I didn’t get to participate in it and I don’t give a kitten They really should do 1 time events again in the future! They are awesome and if I can I will participate in them and if I can’t, I will be happy for those that did.

I guess that’s the difference between you and me.

His argument was: we all had an equal opportunity to do a random 3 hour daily achievement. Oh, that and anyone who makes a thread is upset.

My counter: No we didn’t, we don’t all have the same timezone, it was not at 6pm for all of us like it was for him, it was during the early hours of the morning on a weekday.

I suggest you look up the word opportunity and what it means. Because you keep using that word, I don’t think it means what you think it means.

Everyone had the opportunity, not everyone could take advantage of it. The servers were up, available, you could have connected. You prioritized sleeping. Great for you, RL should always take precedence over a video game.

Now you just need to accept it. Sounds to me like you regret sleeping through that 3 hour window.

Pretty much this.

I agree with you all, making a topic about something clearly indicates you are very upset. If someone makes multiple topics about different subjects, are they really upset?

Is it because I’m taking my time replying to posts?

Sorry about that, if people take the time to reply to my thread, I’ll make an effort to reply to most of them, however irrelevant/incredibly kitten their responses may be.

Everyone had the same opportunity. Some missed it.

No they didn’t. This may come as a shock but the world has different timezones. This update was very early morning during a weekday for some. Being penalized for living in a different timezone is silly.

I think the point is that the opportunity shouldn’t have existed in the first place.

Making a thread about it is just making a big deal out of it sorry. Accept that you missed 1 laurel and move on. World won’t end, you won’t die, no one in your family will get hurt and you will still get your loot, no worries.

Psst. You are making a bigger deal out of this thread than I am. Read my posts, then yours.

Send me a mail in-game to remind me and I will send you the 80s if it will lower your drama-postings.

You missed the sarcasm. It’s okay it’s not the first thing you’ve missed in this thread. But if you’re feeling generous, go ahead! I will send you a present back. We could be friends. <3

You didn’t even counter his arguments……..

The fact remains that one laurel is NOT worth complaining about. It just isn’t. At all. It’s really not. Nor is it the Dev’s responsibility to worry about the whole world. You wanna know when the patch dropped? shortly after THEY got to the office which for them, I believe, is daylight hours which is a pretty sensible working schedule yes? Especially if there’s bugs to fix, which there were.

I’m sorry you want it so bad but its not like having it will bring you THAT much closer to your goals.

Quit whining because I doubt at this point you even care and would rather make sure you don’t get trumped on the forums by people telling you to get over it. This is evidenced by repeatedly trolling and asking people if they want to be friends or berating their ability to read prior posts.

Quit whining about nothing.

One laurel folks.

Just one.

That’s it.

Who cares?

I had the monthly done. If I didn’t get 10 laurels after the patch and someone who finished their monthly did, THEN I’d be complaining.

But that’s not the case, is it?

You all can try and justify your reasonings with all this “equal opportunity” yadda yadda but at the end of the day………..noone gives a kitten about one laurel.

Just to so everyone understands, he said reward “System(S)”, with an S. Plural.

That means it doesn’t have to refer to this system, singular, that we’ve been told about.

Scavenger hunt + Achievement tokens = 2 kinds of reward systemS. Again, plural. One we know about but will not include precursors and the other we don’t know about but will include precursors. Whatever happens in between is still up in the air.

So no, there hasn’t been a contradiction by the devs.

You’re welcome, Colin. Lol

If I earned it then I and my guildees know that and that’s all anyone should need.

Why do we need the approval of other people?
