Think about it. You can’t exploit anything anymore if the tokens only come from the last boss. That should solve the issue right there. Undiscovered bugs notwithstanding.

So why have the DR? Why is speed an exploit?

Longevity is the reason.

And that shows a lack of faith in the content you’ve created and how long it can truly attract people.

I really honestly don’t understand why we have this system in the first place. I really really don’t.

Tokens are rewarded upon completion of the final boss in a path. That’s fine. If a person or groups of people are good enough to run those paths quickly, whatever. I don’t care. Why does Arenanet care?

I only see this system as a way to increase the longevity of their game, making it take longer for people to get the gear and skins they want.

But I ask, for a game that’s free to play…….who cares how fast someone is able to do something if they do it legitimately?

Is Arenanet somehow losing money from people getting what they want quickly?

I truly don’t understand.

For me, I feel the DR doesn’t even solve issues, but just creates more and since it’s implementation is less of a tactic against exploiting and more of a tactic to increase longevity, I have to wonder whether or not they’re confident that there’s enough content in the rest of the world they’ve created to keep players occupied.

Because like I said…..

It’s a F2P game. So who cares how fast you’re able to do something if you do it legit?

As easy as it is to do that, it’s even easier to eliminate the need to do it in the first place. And no, even if someone truly hates that system, they’re not gonna remember it every time when they’re in game.

Because they’re playing a game.

Changing your weapons and skill are one thing, but if you don’t have the traits to back up your choices there’s no reason to change is there? Can’t do one effectively without the other.

There’s plenty of NPCs in dungeons. Just make one of em a master trainer or something.

Ascalonian Catacombs story is harder than any explorer path imo.

Those mobs of rangers, eles, and warriors waiting for you in those tight nit hallways where there’s no real room to properly CC or dodge?

I enjoyed this fight, it was well designed.

what?.. u wanted to jump on his back and rip his spine out =oh wait…. catacysm coming… this isnt WoW.

The fact that he was far away gave a sense of a dragon Being realistic in epic proportions to the characters. no need to jump on him like a pony.

This was a great fight and excellent climax to the personal story=well done combat, and even if it were a bit bugged as Anet claims, no mistakes were made in the design.

Noone expected it to be like WoW. At least I didn’t. But what WoW did do was actually have you engage in the fight against Deathwing and he responds to your actions.

Tentacles, Bloods, Horrors, shards…..Deathwing summons them upon you in order to keep the party from beating on literally his last hold for dear life. It makes sense. He’s dying. He doesn’t want you to kill him.

Zhaitan on the other hand……

Here we have a dragon who supposedly raised a massive continent from the depths of the sea upon his awakening. A dragon who commands undead forces and is considered as well as those like him to be a force of terrible nature.

What does he do?

Well he blows up an air ship.
He takes a crippling cannon shot that “floors” him.

Wait……this sounds alot like WoW. Who’s copying who now?

But similarities are besides the point.

The point is Zhaitan was dying and unlike Deathwing he doesn’t do anything to prevent that except sit there and say “Thank you sir, may I have another?”

For a dragon with the kind of lore Zhaitan has…..you don’t see an issue with that?

I know Zhaitan is the “smallest” of the Elder Dragons, but I’m still trying to figure how something that size can rise a continent roughly 100,000 times larger than it.

which he respectfully retains from using in the fight, because you know, that wouldn’t be fair.

so we fire a laser at him and he’s already half dead. the thing that rose an entire continent from the bottom of the ocean is defeated by a single energy beam that can be transported by an airship and charged in 5 minutes.

make more of those lasers, bring them charged to the battle, fire them. if a continent-rising behemoth dies in a single shot, nothing else will be a threat if you bring enough laser cannons.

I completely agree with you. It’s such a ludicrous fight.
We NEVER should have had the ability to kill him. It should have been a much more thought out plot that had us put him back to sleep or something. Killing him and doing it in such, SUCH a lame way completely and utterly degrades the whole idea that the elder dragons are destructive forces of nature.

Just to clarify, I see chat messages in LA for CoE, CoF, TA, AC, CM, HoW, Sorrow’s Embrace and as of last night, there were two or three looking for Arah. I believe that’s all of them. Some more popular than others but their presence in chat was undeniable.

Perhaps it’s just my server that runs dungeons on such an even basis but I was merely using AC as a personal example. I see all others being run daily during my bid to form a dungeon group.

We can moan and complain and argue about whether or not they should have some sort of LFG tool but until they actually introduce something we are left with the methods I have outlined.

*You either check the cities
*Or you create a forum post asking folks if they want to join you.

Both stand to give you the greatest chance of forming a group. Only thing that stands in your way is your own impatience.

But should you be able to refund an item and get your tokens back in the event of a wrong purchase? Yes.

This is in-game currency earned solely by the player. We’re not talking about gem purchases from the store so I see no reason why we can’t sell an item and get our tokens refunded. Put a 2 hour window on recently bought items before you can’t sell them or something.

I don’t know if its difficult to find a group now.
Though I know what its like in other games. Eventually there won’t be enough lower level players to start a lowlevel dungeon on your server. People working in shifts will not find enough players to do a dungeon on their servers during non-primetime hours.
Players on low population servers, which exist in every MMO successful or not, will have a hard time finding people for dungeons anytime during the day.
I don’t mind not having an LFG tool, I play GW2 for its PvP. I love this game though and want it to be as successful as humanly possible. The lack of an LFG tool will and probably already does lead to loss of customers, whom otherwise would’ve supported and played the game.
So guys, drop your pitchforks. There is no need for a witchhunt and building stakes for the heretic. I love this game as much as you do. However it does lack an LFG tool and it is a flaw.
The majority of players expect convenient, instant fun, which can’t be delivered without an LFG tool, at least for PvE.
The whole rest of the game delivers convenient, instant fun. Porting wherever you want, UI mailing system, PvP from everywhere, up- and downscaling, events, rewards for about everything, sending collectibles to your bank from everywhere,…
So I assume its been a conscious decision to not have an LFG tool. All I want to do here is pointing out “Sorry guys, thats not a design or artistic decision but rather leaving out a standard feature, a necessety!”

Everyone’s different but it is not difficult to find a group for me. 1 trip to Lion’s Arch and 5 minutes later I’m golden.

The hostility doesn’t come from your desire for a LFG tool. Everyone wants that in some way.

It comes from the disbelief that you would literally bar yourself from content because it doesn’t have a LFG tool because of your experience looking for groups in other games (which are NOTHING like GW2).

The risk of finding players to do lower level content is nonexistent, primarily because of the scaling system. 80’s come to ashford routinely to farm for those weapons and you’ll continue to see that through the life of the game. Again, a misconception drawn from your experience in other games which, again, are nothing like GW2.

People do want instant fun. I agree. But you’re right in saying you’re spoiled. While a LFG tool would be appreciated, it is far from NEEDED.

Players who want to have fun will have fun and if that means a trip to Lion’s Arch or a post in the forums is necessary, than that’s a small price to pay to participate in hours of fantastic (i think) content.

A player like you is letting his spoiled nature keeping him from something he may find very enjoyable and that, is very sad. You shouldn’t do that.

What you should do is let your voice be heard, obviously. Any suggestion to help better the game is welcome.

But if something ain’t there yet it ain’t there and you shouldn’t bar yourself from playing specific content simply because they don’t currently cater to your self admitted spoiled needs.

Not all industry standards are good, and the dungeon finder is one of these that simply is a bad standard and that should not be included. It’s a good move that Anet didn’t.

It’s progress. You will have to deal with that. The dungeonfinder in WoW was one of the worst changes the game ever experienced. We should learn from mistakes, not repeat them.

I agree with your fist sentence in contrast to his argument but the rest of what you said is subjective opinion. He obviously liked the dungeon finder in other games so telling him how horrible it is isn’t really going to matter to him, is it? lol

Besides, WoW is far from dead. MoP may have sold the least amount of any of Blizz’s xpacs but a game that sells over 2 million in it’s first week……..a dying game doesn’t sell like that. However you want to slice it. So the presence of a dungeon finder doesn’t hold much of a candle to the argument of what makes and breaks a game. You’d need hard numbers and by hard numbers, I mean written testimony from every active WoW player concerning their opinion of the dungeon finder.

But I digress.

He IS choosing not to participate in content for silly reasons. Stupid ones I may go so far to say. He may enjoy the content he’s missing very much but he won’t see it because of a lazy/elitist attitude.

But everyone’s entitled to their own opinion, however illogical it may be.

Illogical being his choice not to do content purely because the game doesn’t provide what he believes to be the easiest and most efficient way to do so.

I’m surprised people find path 2 to be the hardest. My regular group finds it to be the fastest and most profitable path in AC, just put on your man pants and mow everything down in ~20 minutes.

I agree. Path 2 is the one my groups start with and then we go 1 and 3.

Honest question: do you all stay in the zone X dungeon is in and spam LFG in chat or do you go to LA or other cities and ask there?

Im currently on an AC kick so ill spawn in to Ashford and post LFG in chat. If noone answers or i dont see anyone else then I hit up LA and ask there and I ALWAYS find a group.

And if you dont wanna do that then post in the forums that you wanna run X dungeon X amount of times on X path. Dungeons are cross server so if you get replies than there you go.

Complaining you cant ever find a group is hardly an argument for a dungeon finder.

That being said, i do agree than a system of some sort would be nice for in-game approaches to making a group.

But again, there are alternatives.

Well its not even about bugged hotboxes really. AoE just nukes em down in a pinch. Again, if thats not an option circle strafing works fine. Theyre out of whack, but not to the point where you cant do it.

Your choices would be based on LEGITIMATE player feedback, not the whiners. Lol this way, the devs can make improvements without dumbing down the overall experience for those who are having trouble while at the same time enriching the content for those who already find it satisfactory. I would advertise this poll on the log in screen over the course of a month in order to reach as many players as possible.

Heck, id do this for every facet of the game. Lol

You dont see people randomly celebrating the game and its dungeons in these threads do you? Lol people post concerns and suggestions here so if you made a poll, it would completely swing one way. Negatively towards dungeons.

What would it ask anyway? Do you find dungeons too hard, too easy or just right?

I can already tell you most would answer too hard. But thats not because they are. Its just because everyones different and more often than not youll see posts about something negative (be it legit or not) than you will positive. Just the nature of forums.

It varies from team to team. Could be 20 min to an hour. There is no real set time frame but for a group of skilled players, id round it out to at least a half hour. Thats prob the most agreeable.

Also, after you gather those 5 pieces for the torch and are granted access to the graveling tunnels;
After clearing that first mob you can just run through the tunnels and out to the other side into the boss room. The gravelings won’t follow you out. Just have someone put up a speed buff and go.

What kind of warrior did you roll? If youre a glass cannon thats fine as you can nuke down breeders/burrows effectively but it DOES require you to be lighter on your feet and aware of your situation more often. That could explain why youre dying so easily. Im not saying youre not dodging enough or clearing your conditions when you should but based on what youre saying it seems to be the case.

So whats your build? We can all give you general advise but the real meat is in your weapon/trait choices. If we know how you want to play, we can help you play that way.

Generally speaking strafing greatsword is great for burrows if you dont have a bow. Dolyak signet is great for making sure a stray scavenger doesnt knock you down en route to an objective. If they do, a stun breaker followed by that same signet (if its off CD) ensures youll get up and stay up.

If you play tanky like me, a helpful thing to do is use a mace/shield/hammer setup with Dolyak signet, endure pain, and a banner of defense to occupy a scavenger while your group brings down the breeder. You still have to be quick on your toes but you can take the hits long enough to have it mean something (provided your trait/rune choices allow you to do so).

Instead of this DR system which you guys thus far have had trouble implementing and which we the players couldn’t try to explain to someone else without having notes or something in front of us, why not just put a 24 hour block on dungeon paths a player has completed?

That’s it. You’ve done a path. Now you can’t for the next 24 hours. Did you do all three paths of a dungeon in a day? Congratulations, here’s a bonus to reward your efforts. See you tomorrow!

It’d be similar to WoW’s format concerning Heroic Cata dungeons whereas a player can only complete one every 24 hours. You guys would have it even easier since the token rewards would be a static drop and unlike WoW, a player wouldn’t have to hope to God X armor drops or X weapon drops.

Why not just do that instead of this DR system? Why make it harder on yourselves? For the sake of us being able to have fun without the wait?

I thank you for that and i’m sure everyone else does as well but I personally believe reliability equates to fun in this instance. I have fun when I’m rewarded the correct amount reliably and I can reliably work towards my goals without having to wonder whether or not my acquisition of said goals is going to be stunted by some infernal invisible system.

I just want to know why a simple 24 hour block upon the death of the last boss of a path (in case someone gets kicked or DC’d beforehand) is not being considered. It’d be so much easier. SO much easier.

It’s such a hassle and such a difficult system for you guys to implement and for us to wrap our heads around.

Just put a 24 hour block on any dungeon path you complete in a day. Just like WoW’s heroic Cata dungeons. Maybe add a bonus for doing all three paths in a day. See how that simple that is? How could you not?

I may get hated for mentioning that game but as the saying goes, if it ain’t broke…….

Ya the issue with the DR system is that it exists.

But seriously, I honestly don’t mind that the rewards are now offered upon completion of an entire dungeon. I really don’t. The unfortunate situations that players find themselves in as a result of that design decision (kicked from a group, DC’d, etc) are just that: Unfortunate. Over time the community will learn to deal with it. Ultimately it is your game and if you wish for your community to experience as much of the content as possible (which is fine by me since it will actually improve the skill of your player base) than that’s up to you.

HOWEVER

I must not simply ask, but demand that if you insist on keeping the DR system in place that you provide a VISIBLE DEBUFF so that a player can determine whether he/she is affected by it instead of going into a dungeon and hoping for the best, even after you get this annoying bug fixed.

Obviously allowing us to see the timer conflicts with your ideology that a player should see as much content as possible (which again, I agree with) because they could just take the easy path and wait. So I propose this:

Billy decides to go into AC. He picks the Ghost Eater path to start with as this currently is the quickest and easiest path of the three. He goes through and the run takes about 45 minutes. He now has the DR debuff (regardless of how long his group took), which is communicated to him via a chat message.

“Diminished Rewards are now in affect for Ascalon Catacombs, Ghost Eater path. Time until diminished rewards expires is 24:00:00”

Billy completes the remaining two paths, triggering the debuff for them as well. Furthermore, Billy can see how long he has left before the debuff is lifted by bringing up a window which displays each and every dungeon he’s completed and a real-time timer next to each.

The rewards can be scaled as such:

10
And finally 5 for all future runs within that 24 hour time span and they’d only be awarded upon completing the dungeon in it’s entirety, as you have it now.
I’d also have it so that bosses drop chests again that don’t have tokens, but at least somewhat worthwhile greens, the occasional yellow or semi-hard to come by crafting material, in order to alleviate the stress a player might feel by being kicked or DC’d. If not chests, than at least give the trash a much larger chance to drop something worthwhile as in some cases they’re more difficult than the bosses.

I believe in this manner a player will be most obligated to run all three explorable mode paths to maximize his rewards while at the same time care not that they are receiving only 5 tokens (if they go that far) for each successive run because the boss chests (or trash mobs) offer loot that justify their time spent in the dungeon.

If it’s too complicated technically to keep track of everyone’s individual dungeon activity with a 24 hour timer associated for each path they complete, then you could perhaps just apply the debuff on a per run basis as I suggested, but then perform a community-wide lifting of it after 24 hours or even 2 days, much like you would reset WvWvW. You wouldn’t have to display a timer, just a list of the dungeons currently affected by the DR system. For the heck of it you can even give the DR a tier system so a player knows how many tokens they will recieve (DR tier 1, 2, etc).
Sure you may have some of your more stalwart players only take the path they choose and wait, but at that point the decision is on them to not maximize their rewards. Either way farming and exploitation is a no show (aside from other bugs or whatnot we may find later).

I’m just tired of all the whining. The game is only a month old and concerning dungeon rewards, it hasn’t quite hit that sweet spot but it will!

Lets help them do it.

I mean the cold hard truth is that people need to just suck it up. This goes for casual players and the hardcore alike.

“I got kicked from my group! Whaaaaa no rewards!”

Suck it up. Form an organized group. Can’t? Suck it up. Find another group. The rewards are at the end so if you get kicked before the end you can try again with no harm to your rewards (provided they aren’t bugged).

“Whaaaaa this is too hard!”

And for me it’s just fine. Or maybe for him it’s too easy. It’s all subjective. Unless you can provide an actual reason for why it’s too hard (bug, design flaw, etc) I suggest you play better. Maybe with an organized group.

Then try again and hope for the best. Oh, and suck it up.

What we’re seeing here is a good ol’ fashioned weening. The crybabies will be out before New Years.

All these complaints of “this is too hard” or “what if I get kicked by my group” are so easily eliminated by simply finding 4 other guys/gals that you wanna play with and PLAY WITH THEM.

I think that has a name…. it is called a PUG…

And a lot of things can happen even with people in organized groups. As I have said before, my real life will always trump some dungeon in a game.

In the context of what I was writing it’s an organized group.
You get “clever points” for only posting the part of my article you had some semblance of a retort to…barely.

And yes, alot can happen with OG. I don’t doubt that. But then, that’s why it’s organized isn’t it?

So it doesn’t happen. As often.

Stop picking fights via redundancy.

yay, after todays patch i had faith… Logged in and checked things out. First run of the day i cleared through CoF path 2 (Not without incident). Got my 60 Tokens, was pleased. After that the group disbanned, got another grp… tried again. epic fail after epic fail after epic fail (Bomb Door Room.. /sigh) they left, Guess what NO TOKENS since yall decided to only award em at the end. Ok, shook it off and got another grp.. Tried path 1, epic fail after epic fail.. No tokens after an hour of .. gave up, now ive had 20silver in repairs and no silver in rewards and no tokens after playing the past 4 hours.. Guess its back to logging off for another week or 2 like i did last time.. Anet come on :P

Another example of why my earlier point is so true.

My opinion is all over the place.

I like the idea that you are rewarded at the end of a dungeon. It does effectively put an end to exploitation and it provides incentive to do all three paths, which is something I was looking for.

(Ghost Eater path ftw, anyone?)

The explorable mode content was ALWAYS described as being content designed for ORGANIZED GROUPS.
Pugging it is possible but not recommended and in all reality, if you’re going into an explorable mode path with a pug, expect to die. Just expect it and don’t get mad because YOU asked for a pug. YOU voluntarily put yourself in a position that has the greatest change of you paying out the kittenhole for armor repairs.

That being said, I do agree that it is unfortunate that this design decision will separate players who do look for a pug in that they’ll be asking for specific paths now. Unfortunate, but not outrageous. Find a group, be it a guild group or just a bunch of folks that play regularly and organize a dungeon run. The game is called “Guild Wars.” Find some friends to play with. If you don’t want to do that…..I’m not sure why exactly you’re playing this game and not maybe, Skyrim.

Being rewarded at the end of a dungeon does create unfortunate scenarios in which one or more players may be kicked from a group or forced to leave because real life got in the way and find themselves with nothing to show for their time already spent in-game.
Again, this is a more common occurrence for PUGS. You find an organized group that you can play regularly with and you plan your dungeon romps around your schedules and everything will be peachy, save for pesky power outages or lag spikes but those plague every MMO here and there.

Explorable mode content is for ORGANIZED GROUPS. Do you see the pattern?

All these complaints of “this is too hard” or “what if I get kicked by my group” are so easily eliminated by simply finding 4 other guys/gals that you wanna play with and PLAY WITH THEM.

So that’s that.

The DR system i’m fine with but, like everyone else, it should not apply to speed. I DO NOT want to be punished because my group doesn’t suck. That’s stupid. Straight up.

And as far as the rewards themselves go, yes, they are probably bugged for some people. The game is still very young and it will be awhile before it “finds itself.” Be patient and just run with it.

In the meantime, for the love of Abaddon…..JUST FIND A STEADY GROUP TO DO DUNGEONS WITH AND YOU’LL BE FINE.

I’m having the same issue. Bought gems and literally in that same hour I got “card approval failed.”

Now it COULD be my bank because I did buy 800 gems 4 times in a row but I dunno.

Everything else went through without a hitch.

Arenanet, please at least let us know if this is some sort of bug or something!

The Iron Marches is bugged to all heck. lol I’m on the Dragonbrand server if that makes any difference.

Just take a look at the issues surrounding the first heart you come across, with the displaced spirits not actually taking you to their bodies or being bugged in trees, or Bria the witch who sits so comfortably in the house with the door closed, barring you from entry and you can’t kill her.

I haven’t gone any further cuz my buddy told me how bugged the rest of it is so I can’t say what else needs fixed but I imagine if you start where I mention you’ll find the rest of it.

Help the Iron Marches. Please

And I do know that you can’t really swing your weapon at his toes but just something…..anything……would’ve been better than shooting a cannon at him till he falls over.

Maybe do something to makes him fall asleep again or something. I dunno. I’m not a game designer or lore writer but……anything but this, please.

I’m replying to this simply to bump it up. There are people out there who actually believe that this fight is UNFINISHED.

Woodenpotatoes, quite possibly at the forefront of the GW2-Youtube scene, actually advises people not to do Arah until they finish it as he himself thinks that it’s incomplete and he’s no doubt one of your biggest fans, Arenanet.

After your terrible launch ad spoiled Zhaitan for me (thanks), I decided screw it and just watched the fight on Youtube.

Yes, he just sits there.
Yes you just shoot him for 5 minutes with cannons from an airship he most likely would’ve taken down in a matter of seconds since he’s a dragon without any real thought.

Very disappointing and anti-climactic.

Visually, he’s a treat. I loved the finished concept though I do believe he should’ve been a bit bigger.

Just that last part……….wtf? Was it finished?
