Mystic Coin needs more supply

I know I would craft and forge a lot more items if Mystic Coins weren’t the bottleneck. I’d love to drain my stockpile of Orichalcum Ingots and Ancient Planks. I’d happily run the dungeons for Gifts. I’d rampage around the world making it a point to collect resources. I’d spend my gold on gems and gifts for friends.

Same here, and I know there are other players out there who share this mentality, though who can say how many of us there are?

I just want a way to be able to work towards MC that isn’t reliant upon RNG or timegated to once a day on top of needing a large and competent zerg to acquire the coin (not to mention it being on a fixed schedule, so screw you if you can’t play during the 1 or 2 ley line events each day that even have a chance at being successful). Again, it doesn’t have to be efficient. It doesn’t have to be fast. It doesn’t have to be fun. But I want a way to do that. Simplest one would be an option at the end of reward tracks, either 2 clovers or 6 MC, but of course there could be other ways to go about it.

People have done the math Ayrilana, and there’s no way you are obtaining 40 T6 leather sections every hour through this farm.

https://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/63f85n/data_salvage_results_of_7700_bloodstonewarped/

800 T6 leather sections salvaged from 7700 bloodstone warped hides. This averages out to about 25 T6 leather per stack.

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/lwd/SALVAGE-TEST-Copper-VS-Silver-SPOILER/first#post6537649

This user salvaged 2000 bloodstone warped hides and got 166 T6 leather out of them. That averages out to about 21 T6 leather sections per stack of bloodstone warped hides.

https://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/5t7d1u/possible_spoilers_salvage_rate_research_for/

This user salvaged 2000 bloodstone warped hides, annd received 200 T6 leather sections out of it. Averaging out to 25 T6 leather sections per stack of bloodstone warped hides.

The data is out there. You average about a 10% drop rate on T6 leather from a bloodstone warped hide. So if you are indeed obtaining 40 per hour, then you claim that you are obtaining 400 bloodstone warped hides per hour, every hour, through DR even. I certainly never obtained hides at that rate when I attempted the farm. Do I just have bad luck, or were your numbers inflated?

Three posts above yours.

It stated that if DBL was voted out Alpine would be forever the only borderland map.

Which does NOT say that a new borderland will be developed if DBL is allowed to stay.

You can make up kitten as much as you want, but it will forever remain just that, kitten. Anet never said that keeping DBL would mean another borderland would be made.

but thats not fun ;-; . Also it would be the most basic yet interesting mastery line lol

I’ve posted my idea for an entire crafting mastery line a few months ago, and I don’t remember all of the details for what I originally posted, but it was something along these lines (I think)

  • Higher chance of bonus crafting experience, and everything crafts 5% faster
  • Small (like <5%) chance to obtain leather from lore appropriate animals when you kill them. This would mostly be ambient animals that have hides, but would also include stuff like minotaurs and centaurs
  • Chance at having a gathering node “replenish” itself when you finish gathering from it. Guaranteeing another harvest (so 3 more mats from ore and wood nodes, 1 more mat from all other nodes).
  • Can skin lore appropriate animals when you kill them. Skinning is not always successful (easy way for Anet to softly control how much leather enters the market from this approach), and would only use up a charge on the sickle if you get leather from it
  • When crafting in bulk, the max speed for each item is doubled. So say if the current speed cap on refining mithril ingots is 0.25 seconds, this would lower that to 0.125 seconds for each ingot when crafting in bulk

Not a perfect list. But some QoL changes I would like to see made to crafting (namely the skinning lore appropriate animals for leather, and sped up bulk crafting). This is pretty close to what I proposed last time for such a mastery line

Reaper’s Shroud 4 (soul spiral) should just deal raw damage, maybe apply vulnerability instead of poison, but have its base damage increased.

You know that poison it’s more useful than vulnerability and that another useless vulnerability stacking ability isn’t needed, right?
And think about other games mode.. Poison in pvp is a threat while vulnerability even on the downed is just a joke.

true but in ove poison is meh unless they intoduce encounters in fractals or raids where denying healing is very importand.

Yea but at least it does damage. Most fights in PvE are so short that the extra damage from vuln won’t mean anything, because the fight will be over before it has a chance to add up to anything significant. Which means that objectively, poison would be better in most PvE situations than yet another way to apply vuln

As much fun as skinning would be (and seriously, it would work great as part of a crafting mastery line for core tyria too), I would rather Anet just un-kitten up the recipes involving leather.

How much time needed create Storage Material?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: OriOri.8724

OriOri.8724

All I wanted was them to add new slots to the Material Storage. I didn’t want anyone to rework UIs or automatically deposit materials or anything like that, I just wanted it so that when I click “Deposit Material” my “Bloodstone Rubies” (for example) go into Material Storage rather than sit in my inventory. So I’m very glad to read the following in her Reddit post:

“As a very quick half measure, I have asked that we at least add the Season 3 map materials to material storage with Episode 5. "

https://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/5ylj2w/anet_it_has_been_months_when_will_you_finally/

If the other parts of her plan are too complex then of course she can shelve them indefinitely. It’s a pity but those materials were the “biggest offenders” for me.

If you read what Linsey wrote, she said she has a clear list of what to do, which items will make it into material storage, how to reorganize the UI, and how to prevent stuff from ending up in inventory in the first place. Now, it’s a matter of implementing the plan.

Maybe it’s something that should be a priority from ANet, but that would likely be at the expense of the next expac (due to LM’s other responsibilities). Is it really that urgent?

Not necessarily. That’s why we form teams. Lindsey can hand this over to some other people. She’s done the design work and was about to hand it over when she got distracted onto other work. I guarantee that in a company like ArenaNet that there’s some eager beaver who would be only too happy to take over.

As for whether it’s urgent, well, I don’t know about urgent but I imagine her planned changes will only improve the game and the player experience. It should also help in the creation of processes and guidelines about how this kind of stuff should be handled in the future before we end up with another two or three map currencies and other materials that will have to be retroactively added to storage. That’s time well spent.

Actually Linsey said in one of her Reddit posts that this isn’t something that she would hand over to someone that doesn’t know what they are doing. Apparently material storage if not handled correctly, could have devastating effects.

Here are some quotes from Linsey about passing it off:

“I am unwilling to pull anyone off of their current work to do this. It’s a lower priority task and I don’t have anyone lazing around not doing much. We are all super busy”

“Like others have said, it is very common for devs to have side projects like this and more often than not, Quality of Life changes are side projects. The company’s priorities for investment of resources tends to be different, thus why I have not delegated it out. I mean, purely from a leads perspective, expanding material storage is not more important than other work that I would have to pull people off of to do it. Plus, to top it all off, material storage is a delicate system where small mistakes could result in roll-back level problems were they to hit Live. So I’m simply not comfortable passing it to someone that is not intimately knowledgeable and there are only three other people in the building that are intimately knowledgeable.”

So yes, while there might be some “eager beaver” as you put it, she is simply unwilling to trust them with it. And based off of her comment about it having potentially rollback level issues if mishandled, I will trust her judgement of what needs to be done. I’m sure none of us want another rollback.

Evidently she is willing to trust someone because next release they’re planning on adding the LS map rewards to material storage. It’s a live database, messing it up could be disastrous, of course it could, but they’ve added entries to material storage for the last three legendaries without any problems so I think it’s fair to say that it’s a repeatable process, as for their (apparent) problems with sharing knowledge, well its nothing a little documentation wouldn’t solve.

I imagine that however their database is set up, its significantly easier to add a brand new item to mat storage than it is to update an already existing item to go into mat storage.

If you truly believe players have no control over the leather price, what would happen if the entire pkayerbase spent a day and did the farm? How much supply do you think would enter the TP? What do you think the price might end up at?

Given the recorded drop rates for T6 leather from the farm, even if every player participated in the farm for a day, it wouldn’t even generate enough T6 leather to meet the current buy orders on the TP, so even this monumental effort by literally every player wouldn’t be enough to meet just the current demand.

Could you please locate that post and provide a link? I’m not seeing it.

https://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/4lxt91/psa_if_simultaneous_borderlands_wins_the_wvw_poll/

That’s it.

Simultaneous borderlands (2ABL, 1DBL) would be more likely to have a third WvW map developed. At least that’s how most of us read Tyler’s comment.

I voted for 2ABL/1DBL rather than a 3ABL-3DBL rotation because it was a better option and also there was the possibility of a third map. Whether the third map was developed, 2ABL/1DBL was a far better choice than having 3DBL for three straight months.

The direct quote from Tyler “Just to clarify. The Simultaneous Borderlands is a system that better supports a third map, than the rotation strategy. So an additional map would be more likely in that respect. However, our development priorities are still community driven. We wouldn’t start building another WvW map unless it was put to a vote, and won.”

Nowhere do they promise a third borderland. You guys made that kitten up, and you are proving that you made it up. The only thing they said is that this system would better support a third borderland map. But they explicitly stated that their priorities did not include a new borderland, and that even if they did development wouldn’t start unless there was another poll.

You, and everyone else, literally made it all up that ANet was going to develop a new borderland map if DBL wasn’t removed.

OriOri.8724

Nice alternative facts there.

Here’s the history in case you all forgot.

Players were tired of two WvW maps, complained that WvW was stagnant.
Anet brings out DBL, replacing ABL. Players hate map.
Poll #1 asks players if you want to keep DBL, or go back to three ABL maps players complained about. Voting to keep DBL would mean a third map would be done.
Players voted to keep DBL so new map would be done, which was better than three ABL maps that we’ve had since launch.

Poll #2 asked what kind of rotation they would like with DBL.
The winner was two ABL and one DBL because that was the lowest number of DBL maps.

Still no new map.

So the real facts of DBL is that players voted for DBL so that a third BL map would be done and the players voted for only one DBL map because it was the best choice available.

Actually, the polls you are referring to are different than what you’ve outlined.

Poll 1:
Today we’re here to ask about the future of the Desert Borderland map in WvW. Since its release, there has been significant community debate surrounding the Desert Borderlands and there’s been a vocal group of players demanding that the Desert Borderlands map be removed entirely. The question remains, is that opinion actually representative of the vast majority of the WvW community?
Since this is a change that has significant impact on WvW as a whole, 75% of the community vote must be in agreement to disable the Desert Borderlands map.
Do you believe that permanently removing the Desert Borderlands map from play would be a superior game experience compared to having both Alpine Borderlands and Desert Borderlands maps as options?
• Yes: The Desert Borderland map should be permanently disabled.
o Alpine Borderlands will forever be the only Borderlands map.
• No: The Desert Borderland map should continue to be supported.
o Both Alpine Borderlands and Desert Borderlands will remain as map options.
o We will hold a revised Simultaneous Borderlands poll again, to determine how the Desert Borderlands returns.
• Don’t count my vote, just show me the current results.

Poll 2:
Again we’re here to ask about the future of the borderlands maps in WvW. The current plan is to rotate the active borderlands map with each quarterly update. The alternative option is to have both Alpine and Desert Borderlands running simultaneously. The down side of both maps running simultaneously is the possibility of imbalance between the maps; the upside is more choice and variety of which map to play on.
How would you like to play both Desert and Alpine going forward?
• Simultaneous Borderlands is a superior option
o At all times there will be 2 Alpine Borderlands and 1 Desert Borderland
o This requires a 75% majority to win.
• Rotating borderlands is a superior option
o Quarterly rotation between 3 Alpine Borderlands and 3 Desert Borderlands.
o If Simultaneous does not win by 75% we will continue with this option.
• Don’t count my vote, just show me the current results.

Permastealth Mesmer?

This will be the best thing you can do on a mesmer to get “permastealth”. You could swap mimic on your bar instead of blink, which could get you another 4.5 seconds of stealth every ~60 seconds by mimicing decoy, but blink gives you a teleport in case you need to get away from one of those OHKO wolves that run around.

Note that you should cast MI while inside of CS (start casting MI first, use F5 right before the channel finishes, then use F5 again immediately to exit CS, have MI off cooldown, and still have ~7-7.5 seconds of stealth), and then you can cast it again immediately to stack about 15 seconds of stealth, and it will be recharged for when CS is off cooldown again.

If you do take mimic instead of blink, you should also use mimic in CS (again, start casting MI, right before it finishes use F5, then immediately cast mimic and then exit CS. Then you can use decoy and it will recharge immediately due to the echo effect).

Its not perma stealth, but its the best mesmer can do. Be sure to use Torch 4 as much as you can, being in stealth makes that skill recharge faster, and you should end up with fairly high stealth uptime from this build.

Yup, I was referring to the same one as Vayne. Its not passive damage, but something like vines that will actively attack you. Unlike the firestorms near balthazaar statues, they aren’t random, they do seem to follow you and deliberately attack you, so as long as that statue is contested, you can’t get that HP.

Its not a problem, because I’ve never had trouble finding a group to do Grenth (never even had to look for a group honestly), but it is not possible to solo that map in my experience.

If you mean the one where the earth elementals are, you can still do this, again with Ash Legion Spy Kits (if you’re not a thief). I’ve done it on a couple of characters when the vines attack you. It’s a matter of timing it, the vines attack in five, maybe six pulses.

No, we aren’t talking about that one.

How couldn’t it? Rev uses hammer as a ranged weapon? Mesmer uses GS as a ranged weapon to shoot laser beams at you. We have staff being used as both a ranged weapon and a melee physical weapon. I don’t see how mace couldn’t fit on any of the classes with Anet’s design team (conceptual design, not necessarily class design).

Its a dagger in GW2, so the way its held is the only way that makes sense. If the direction of it being held was reversed, then it would be useless as a dagger, since you would either have to raise your hands and strike down to use the blade, or contort your wrist in a strange way to make it effective.

Just because its not identical to GW1 does not make it wrong. The way its held is the only logical way to hold a dagger with a blade going like that.

Mesmer elite skills redesign

in Mesmer

Posted by: OriOri.8724

OriOri.8724

Some of us have been playing mesmer since pre-launch beta. The class has had some very rocky balance moments and currently sits as pure buff bot for raids (a role which that class has had literally since the start of the game). Sceptisism is very warranted in arenanets ability to rebalance and keep the class functional no matter if you see it or not.

Been playing mesmer a long time does not translate to being able to know when a class design is flawed and needs to be reworked.

I’m not saying that you can’t see this, but it is a fallacy to just throw out how long you have been playing mesmer and then expect that to mean you know what’s best in terms of design. Design wise, its just broken that CS can affect elites. Its impossible to balance that unless CS was made baseline to core mesmer and we were guaranteed to always have access to it (and before anyone says something, I am not proposing that this happens. But its the only way to have even a hope of truly balancing CS interacting with elite skills. Otherwise elites will either be balanced around CS cooldown, and be weak as kitten for their CDs when we aren’t running chrono, or they will be balanced around their actual CD and be way too powerful when used inside CS).

Mystic Coin needs more supply

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

OriOri.8724

Thank you for proving my point. There is no viable option to just gather your own coins. They all fall back towards buying coins in the end. Just because it might be “easy” to earn that gold doesn’t change the fact that it just is not viable to gather the coins yourself. So people need to stop spreading that around as if it is true.

But it is true. You can get 250 in 5 months without buying it off the TP. That’s a fact.

What’s not a fact is that it’s “not viable”. You think that waiting 10 months for 2 legendaries isn’t viable. That’s purely an opinion.

I also find it pretty humorous that you’re trying to claim the price is not related to this topic. So if the situation were the same, but coins were at 10c, this would still be an issue?

I’ve answered that question before, but it was buried in another thread so I’m not surprised if you didn’t see my answer. But yes, I would still be upset if the coins were even 1 copper each on the TP.

And I’d be upset because I completely disagree with the rate of acquisition of coins versus how many are required for the new legendary weapons. I genuinely don’t mind gen1 legendaries, because there are ways available to farm clovers if you want to (and because you can get clovers from the daily login reward at the end of the track if you want to). Its not quick, its not efficient, but at least it exists.

But gen2 legendaries require a stack of coins. And the only way to acquire them outside of buying them is to wait at least 5 months, but usually quite a bit longer since in my experience its really difficult to find a group that can complete the ley line anomaly any more. Which means that the only two options are to buy them or to literally sit on your ass and wait. Logging in for 1 minutes each day to collect the daily login rewards. There is no way to earn your coins. Absolutely no way to do so. There is no reward track you can complete to get mystic coins. There is no option to get ~20 mystic coins instead of clovers at the end of the daily login reward cycle. There is nothing. The only ways to acquire them are RNG or hope you get a group that can complete the ley line anomaly, but that is even time gated to 1 coin a day.

There is nothing you can do to get around this fact, nothing. It doesn’t have to be efficient, it doesn’t have to be fast, but we do need a way to acquire mystic coins that is not time gated nor reliant on RNG. So yes, I would still have a problem if MC were only 1 copper on the trading post, because there is no alternative to buying them. Waiting on your ass is not an alternative. What is legendary about just waiting for months on end for MC to pile up? Absolutely nothing. All I want is a way to go out and earn MC. Even something as simple as having reward tracks give out a handful of MC on par with how many clovers they give (as an either or option, you’d choose either clovers or coins) would be enough for me.

At the very least, I want to see the loyalty chest updated to include a choice for 20 MC. This is fewer MC than what you need to create the 7 clovers you can already choose, which also come with other kitten, so it would be balanced against the already existing prices. Would this solve the problem? No, because we would still lack a way to go out and earn your own MC that wasn’t reliant on RNG or having a massive zerg that can complete ley line anomaly. But it would at least be something. And its in line with current rewards to boot.

You can always place an order for them at 50s. If someone agrees that it’s a good idea, they’ll sell it to you.

Failing that, consult guildies, friends, and other trustworthy individuals that think similarly so you can trade internally. A pool of 10-20 people is more than enough to generate the coins needed.

You’d have to wait for the tens of thousands of buy orders with higher prices than 50 silver to be filled before someone would fill yours. So this doesn’t actually work

Oh, so you mean these tens of thousands of people think a higher price than that is reasonable?

Just because you have a buy order out does not mean you think the price is reasonable. If you need coins you need coins, and since its just not practical to gather them yourself, that means resorting to buying them. And if you have to resort to buying them, you have to put up a buy order that actually has a chance at being filled.

That need is purely subjective.

It is not about needing coins. It is about needing coins now. The game gives you coins for free. You can also get 1 a day and from the occasional daily. You can also get mystic clovers from the track.

The problem actually fixes itself

No, it doesn’t. You people really need to start letting go of this notion that you can gather the coins you need yourself if you are just patient. If you want just 2 HoT legendary weapons, that requires a bare minimum of 500 Mystic Coins. With 20 guaranteed each month, assume (lets be extremely generous here) 5 MF dailies each month, that’s 25 guaranteed MC each month. At 500 needed as a bare minimum, this is almost 2 years worth of waiting to gather the coins yourself. That’t not acceptable to wait for 2 skins. It just isn’t.

lets say 6 months is a reasonable time to get a legendary from scratch, so in that time you gained 150 coins simple from playing, so basically you need to earn a paltry 2 gold a day to buy those coins which takes minutes to earn. the issue is the modern ‘i want it now’ culture.

Thank you for proving my point. There is no viable option to just gather your own coins. They all fall back towards buying coins in the end. Just because it might be “easy” to earn that gold doesn’t change the fact that it just is not viable to gather the coins yourself. So people need to stop spreading that around as if it is true.

OriOri.8724

@Apharma

I don’t see it that way. If “do or suggest the right thing” means a suggestion to unilaterally downgrade Mesmer, then no I don’t wish to do it.

The suggestion being made is to have a major nerf in the “faith” of getting reworks on other skills. Further, the “hope” is that all the other classes would receive similar downgrades and reworks.

Such faith and hope might be appropriate in a religious milieu. In the context of GW2, history suggests that those outcomes won’t happen. If they don’t, Mesmer gets crippled.

Sure, I can sympathize with the desire to help shape Mesmer and to improve the game. I don’t think this is a good path though.

No, it is not. Stop spreading lies about what my suggestion is, its really starting to get on my nerves.

I stated that CS not affecting elites should go into effect with these changes. I never proposed just nerfing CS interaction with elites and leaving the elites alone. Yet that is all you keep arguing against.

Whether or not you believe ANet is capable of balancing the elites around not being affected by CS is completely irrelevant, because you keep parroting that instead of debating the actual changes proposed.

Do you like the collective idea of what these elites should be? Or do you not? Because that is the only relevant part to this suggestion. Whether or not you believe in Anet to properly implement this is not at all relevant to whether you believe this would be a better design or not.

So stop trying to derail this thread with your nonsense.

Mesmer elite skills redesign

Well put @Carighan.

And truthfully, regardless of whether you believe in the devs team to balance our elites while making CS not affect them, its still broken that CS resets our elites. Its just broken. And being able to double cast our elite skills, while a really fun trick, has directly led to 1 of them being nerfed extremely hard and 1 of them being left deliberately underpowered for the duration of the CD. While you don’t notice this now as you are running around as a chronomancer, it will become painfully obvious when the next expansion drops, and we can no longer have our elites on a 76 second CD. Then you will see just how sad of a state they are in for their lengthy cooldowns.

One can argue it extends to any skill that is good not just elites which makes CS a hard thing to balance around as any core skill cannot be so good that casting it twice ends up being too strong.

One could definitely argue that. I’d say though that first, in my opinion, no utility skill should be so powerful that being able to cast it twice in a row is overpowered. And indeed I believe that to be the case with mesmer, considering we have had mimic for years and it has never been an issue (though double casting mimic to triple cast a utility is definitely a huge upgrade. I’d also argue that blowing the longest CD elite spec mechanic, on top of devoting 2 of our 3 utility slots just to triple cast a skill would end up balancing that out over the course of an entire match).

So that leaves us with our shatters being cast twice. Personally I think this could be balanced if SoIllusions active effect was changed to not be a full recharge of all shatter’s cooldowns, so I don’t see it as a problem. But I do think that being able to double cast our elites, or more usually being able to cut the CD of them down to 76 seconds, does make balancing them impossible. Because either they will be balanced around that CD/ability to cast them twice and will be absolute trash on a 180 second CD, or they will be balanced around their actual CD and be absolute trash whenever we aren’t running chronomancer.

If you do target something, it will just shoot in their direction, regardless of whether they are actually in range or not. Same thing with GS2. It just takes a bit of practice to know when you are in range of enemies

The quoted reply was 3 days ago, but anyway…

You can easily know if you are in range or not. When you target an enemy and there is a red bar below your skills, you are out of range. If there is no red bar, you are in range.

I honestly find it easier to judge the range to someone than to look at the red bar at the bottom of my screen. And I’m pretty good at it.

I disagree that character bound masteries would have been a better approach. All it would have done is spread out the grind somewhat. But eventually it would require more grind to get all of your characters their masteries than it currently requires.

Agreed.

I think the best aproach would’ve been a combination of the current exp grind, and an unlocking point that’s character bound. That way it would make some sense.
“don’t glide until you did the story chapter where get the glider”
“don’t eat mushrooms until you’ve actually learned to”
“don’t autoloot around you until you killed a demon who gave you a million long invisible arms”

If you mean gather the experience once, and then as soon as you get the points on another character they can immediately unlock that mastery, then yes. That would have been a substantially better approach than character bound masteries. But it would still introduce needless grind for mastery points unless they were handed out like candy.

There are 9 classes, so its not unreasonable to expect to be able to run through the content with your main and 8 toons to experience it on all 9 classes. Yet if we had to re-grind for mastery points for every toon, it would be a huge chore, and would drive a lot of players away.

The synergy itself is the exploit. It’s an exploit because the result of the synergy is unintended and it was an oversight by the developers.

The use of the term exploit by ArenaNet and other game companies has (up until now) exclusively referred to the exploitation of bugs. Use of overpowered builds have never been termed as a exploit. They didn’t call S1 Chronobunker a exploit despite the fact that that build literally broke sPvP.

And this distinction is important because otherwise you get that guy over in the necro forum that is trying to insinuate that necromancers should have their accounts actioned for using it.

Your analogy is not at all relevant. S1 chronobunker was intentionally designed to be that bunkery. Reaper was not designed to be allowed to stack that many bleed stacks that quickly. You can argue semantics all you want, but that won’t change the fact that Reaper just was not designed to output so many bleed stacks so quickly. If it were, it wouldn’t need an environmental weapon to do so. So yes, it was an exploit. No, that does not mean people need to be banned over it. Not all exploits are worth banning people, which is something that a lot of people can’t seem to wrap their minds around.

Yea, the price for leather is beyond ridiculous, yet Anet refuses to address the root of the problem.

INB4 someone says “Leather is fine. You should be buying all your gear instead of crafting it anyway”

Well if that’s the case, why have such an in depth crafting system in the game? Honestly, if we weren’t meant to craft our own gear, we would have an extremely simplistic crafting system. Yet we don’t, so clearly we were meant to be able to craft our gear as a viable alternative to buying it. Yet the asinine prices of leather prevent crafting from being a viable alternative.

Gen 3 legendary weapons?

They are slowly finishing generation 2. I don’t think that starting a new generation would be any easier or faster just because it’s a new generation.

I think that the second generation won’t be finished before the next expansion launches and that the legendaries they release after the expansion launches will need the new expansion.

That, I think, would be a mistake. There’s a lot of hyperbole over broken promises, but gating any of gen 2 behind a 2nd expansion would actually be one – we were told HoT would include a set of 16 legendary weapons. Releasing half and then asking people to buy another expansion to get the rest would be a bit of a PR disaster. I can see gen 2 continuing to be drip-fed to us beyond the release of the next expansion, but I’d be really surprised if they made the expansion a requirement for them.

HoT dropped with content that was available to everyone, regardless of whether they bought the expansion or not. There’s no reason to assume that the next expansion won’t be the same. Which means that they could release the rest of the Gen 2 legendaries with the second expac, just making them available to everyone who has HoT.

I do believe this should not have been labelled as an “exploit” since literally every factor involved was behaving exactly as designed and intended. What wasn’t intended was the result from the synergy.

Yes, it absolutely needed to get nerfed. I certainly won’t argue against that. Calling it an exploit, though, is uncalled for.

I mean, that’s kind of the definition of an exploit though. No single build was meant to be able to stack so many bleeds so quickly, and since it wasn’t intended behavior then something that would allow you to do that would be an exploit.

how ppl didnot see that the expansion was feature heavy instead of content heavy is beyond me x_x

Its because these people don’t stop and think about features. These are the people who will race through the content as fast as they can to finish it first, then complain about having nothing to do. Well yea, if you no life grind and max your masteries within a week, of course it seems like a small expansion, because you skipped most of what came with it.

It also doesn’t help that both the PvP and WvW offerings of HoT were not well received. DBL represents a metric kittenton of content, yet because the initial release was not well received (which is kitten, since it was what people had been asking for. Then again, that’s the story of HoT. GW2 players ask for something and then complain when they get it), people just ignored it and refused to play on it.

Megaservers: my one big gripe

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

I think Anet can do a lot to address this issue actually. For starters:

  • If a map decides to close, give it a “return population”, where if the map reaches this population level and keeps it for at least 15 minutes (or 30, whatever) then it no longer decides to close.
  • Put a substantially lower limit on how many different instances of the same map can be created at once, and only make new ones if they are all full or at least at the “return population”. I can’t count how many times I’ve been told a map is empty, and accept the transfer, only to be transferred onto another empty map that immediately gives me the warning its going to close, only to then be transferred onto another empty map, again. This absolutely should not be happening, period. If there are that few players, then that many instances shouldn’t exist in the first place for that map.
  • In a very similar vein, if a player decides to leave the map, do not under any circumstances place them in another map that has already decided to close. Period. No excuses on ANet’s part for this. It should not be happening.
  • Do not allow HoT maps to close in the middle of a meta.

These might not be easy to implement, but it would solve a lot of the bigger problems that players have with these megaservers.

Yea the megaserver system definitely has its problems. Especially where once it decides to close a map, that map will be closed regardless of whether the population rises or not.

Something would be very wrong if the answer was not to change an almost never used environmental weapon and nerf an entire class instead. I suspect the weapon will either be restored with restrictions or removed entirely.

I think Reddit is worrying needlessly here.

Have you seen what they have done to some classes in the name of the almighty balance? What is worse, when the balance issue is in a game mode you never play.

Yeah, but, here is the thing … ANet make those decisions because they have the numbers, at scale, across the entire playerbase. Reasonable estimates put that at more than a couple hundred thousand people a week.

If the 3-bleeds-on-chill trait is unbalanced when used fairly, it’ll change. If it’s unbalanced when used with an effectively “unlimited number of chill stacks” environmental weapon, they will fix the weapon, one way or another. (Worst case, remove it, best case, ICD on chill applied by that one attack.)

Balance is about just that, balance. It doesn’t matter if it’s “fun” to you, or if you can’t see where the unbalanced part of the change is. It’s about ensuring that all the classes are roughly equally capable across the board.

Don’t get salty just because, sometimes, you feel like that wasn’t entirely fair to your fave, and remember: everyone gets hit with the nerf-bat at some point. into the GROUND!

The trait is working as intended for how much chill the reaper itself has access to. The trait is absolutely not the problem here. The only problem was how many applications of chill the frost gun skills could put out incredibly quickly. So I hope their fix only involves adding a short ICD to the chill application of the frost gun

But, they already exist in the PvP lobby, why would they copy it over into WvW?

Not only can you gear your character however you want in WvW, you can also use food and consumables, have access to different sigils than PvP does (well soon at any rate, assuming that sigil change is coming with S7), and have stat choices that are not allowed in PvP.

On top of that though, some skills act differently in WvW, confusion has a different formula in WvW than it does in PvP. The PvP golems are not an accurate representation of what your build could do in WvW.

Non gem gliders (friendly request)

Would be really cool to have gliders for the 3 orders! And there’s already a good place for them as well. They could be handed out as rewards for completing the order backpacks. So say you finish the lightbringer’s pack collection, then instead of just getting the lightbringer’s pack, you get a chest that contains the lightbringers pack and an Order of Whispers glider in it as well.

All told, this would still only be 6 gliders available through regular play (1 of which is given to players), and they would all be fairly expensive to acquire since they would necessitate either finishing a legendary or spending hundreds of gold to complete one of the order armor collections.
