Time gates are a type of grind, just not the type of grind that most players think of when they think grind (that being just hours and hours of killing mobs to either get something you can turn into gold or get a rare drop). But I don’t think that either provisioner tokens or LI are particularly grindy, even as a time gate. Leg armor is after all supposed to be the best ever armor you could possibly get.

To me, it looks like a table lamp with a shade crocheted by someone who isn’t very good at crocheting. I like the idea of a lamp, I like the animations; I really can’t get past the design of the shade.

Suit yourself, I see it as more of a candelabra though.

400 HP wouldn’t be as bad this time if the leak was true. It showed the trees set up to where the very first things you unlock are the minor traits and 1 major trait in each tier. Meaning that you will very quickly gain access to at least a full 3 traits to equip, even if they aren’t the best ones in the tree.

I’m really hoping we will be getting 2 new elite specs per class with the expansion.

Not only will this be a huge sink for our extra HP that we already have on characters, but it would also give each class 3 elite specs instead of 2, which means that they would finally feel like actual specializations (eg each class could have 1 support spec, 1 DPS spec, and 1 “random” spec that was good at something unique)

…but I really hope they can. Those items should have been put into the Wallet.

And honestly, the Wallet needs a bit of a UI upgrade, if only to sort/separate the various currencies by source (dungeon, LS2, LS3, etc).

Proofs of Heroics were tokens and turned into a currency you acquire by right click —> add to wallet. They’re glorified tokens now, I imagine it’s doable.

Either way, I’d rather have by bank slots and inventory slots free again, especially with a new map token. I boycotted Lake Doric in protest of the continuing clogging of my inventory. That issue has gone away now.

Its doable but they won’t do it. Lindsey mentioned that they were intentionally made into items because “there’s a lot more things you can do with an itemDef than with a currencyDef”

I think the technical limitation with items in the wallet is that they can only interact with vendors, not crafting stations.

I agree with you, but the fact that she thought it important enough to mention says, to me, that they have zero plans to re-implement these as proper currencies and just let us use them to buy crafting mats for the recipes that use them.

100 gold to craft light armor

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: OriOri.8724

OriOri.8724

So, your idea of casual play is to go from 1 farm to another, to another, to another?

That’s not what casual players do.

OK, so let me give you yet another perspective.

A full cycle of login rewards takes 28 days to complete and gives, among other things, the following:

  • 20 Mystic Coins (currently worth ~1g each)
  • 35 Laurels, with an option for extra 20 from Chest of Loyalty. These can be converted to gold by purchasing bags of crafting materials at any laurel vendor, at roughly 1g per laurel final rate.

Doing just the dailies (2g per day) on top of that and ignoring any materials you gain in the process, you can make 20 + 55 + 2×28 = 131g per 28 days. So the game gives you 4.67g per day for basically doing nothing.

I think even the casual players do more than just dailies. No matter what you do, you get loot (which can be salvaged and sold), karma and liquid gold. It is perfectly possible to get 100g in less than 10 days with casual play. If you’re deliberately choosing not to, I fail to see any reason to complain. You’re complaining about your own choices. Only one person has the power to change these, you know…

This does nothing to dispute my point. Going from one farm, to another, to another, to another is anything but casual play.

Anyone that says that is casual is clearly out of touch with the average GW2 player.

As to your gold per day figure, JS made a post a while ago (I’m sure someone on here can find it, or has it bookmarked or something) that said the mean weekly income for GW2 players was something small, like 1-2 gold per week. So while yes, it is easy to get gold in GW2, that doesn’t mean that most players actually come by it quite so easily as you seem to think that they do.

Will we ever going to see Gear Progression?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

OriOri.8724

After 1.600 hours into the game, getting full ascended builds on ever char, i find myself having no motivation to play any further. Now i play GW2 every now and then (once or twice every month/3-months).

There is nothing to do in the game anymore. There is no gear progression and doing fractals or raids does not feel rewarding at all. Removing the dungeons was also removing a big part of content and variety of the game. I find myself getting bored from doing the same stuff over and over again. It feels mundane.

Back in vanilla gw2, you had to go through masterwork>rare>exotic, but now you instantly jump to exotic.

Everything gives you ascended, whether it is fractals, raids, word bosses.

And now the game ended up being a fashion contest game, with only purpose of “Looking good” rather “Getting Good”.

Hope with the new expansion we will see a new gear progression system that feels rewarding and hard at the same time. Rewarding and easy is never good.

Are you serious? You have gear progression options available. You can go for legendary weapons and legendary armor.

The options for progression are there, you just refuse to take them.

Elites are better because HoT was designed to provide a stronger challenge to the game, and the devs wanted to shift from the zerker meta that was “unhealthy for the game” (dev paraphrased quote btw). Instead of constantly complaining about HoT elites, you should be fighting to have the devs improve core specs and core weapons and core traits and core slot skills… and to add quality playable roles that players have the option to build for within each profession instead.

Because this game doesn’t need more powercreep, and it could benefit a lot from reducing the power creep that HoT brought

You’re not really paying attention to the entire game are you?

I am, but so many people don’t. They see harder PvE content and just assume that this means we need to embrace and expect powercreep. That is not true. HoT maps, especially now after the nerf last April or whenever it was, are doable on core specs. Is it more difficult than on an elite spec? Sure, I’ll give you that. But they are still doable on core specs. Which means that elite specs could still be tuned down, in some cases by quite a bit, and still be absolutely fine for content throughout the game.

The devs are not going to gut elite specs just for players still stuck in the zerker meta, and who thought the launched profession designs were quality…

Aside from a few “red flag” design issues plaguing the game since launch, it’s time for players to adapt and start championing core profession improvements even stronger.

Who said anything about it remaining the zerk meta? I mean you look at what is current flavour of the month raid build and it’s core condi ranger with core engineer being more complex but more damage.

What I assume OriOri means is to look at elite specs and say “How much of this can I rip out and tone down and it will still be better than most core lines in most cases”. The answer is actually a lot. You could change primal bursts to T2 burst skills outside of PvE and it would still be picked 100% of the time. You could slap a 30s CD on headbutt, people will still use it over everything else. Instead of Arc Divider covering 3 football fields and destroying anything that isn’t a nuclear fallout bunker you could reduce it to 240 range. Instead of Skull Grinder doing all it does it could lose the daze, deal half power damage and it would still be picked for a condi build no questions asked.

That’s just warrior, you could make very deep cutting changes to other elite specs which would make the game much less painful to watch and play while keeping elite specs better than core lines.

Exactly. Even with huge nerfs to a bunch of skills, some elite specs would still be way better than core specs.

There is no reason to continue power creep by buffing core specs to these ridiculous levels. Just start toning down elite specs. Hell they can remain better if they need to, but maybe 10% better instead of 75% better than core specs.

Both of those recipes require closer to 2000 than 1000 T5 leather, so I don’t think its incorrect to say they require thousand*s* of T5 leather. And note, that’s only 1 of the many mats needed for them. All told, it requires a grand total of over 2,000 leather pieces and 1,150 cloth pieces, among various other items in substantially lower quantities, for this single item if you craft the traditional way (with similar numbers, among ~500-600 ore if you use the grandmaster marks).

The amount of mats needed for crafting is extremely high.

100 gold to craft light armor

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

OriOri.8724

At this point I think we do need a clarification on what OP means, since 100g is more than a single exotic set, and yet only a portion of an ascended set. So what on earth is he crafting to require 100g for a single set?

@Just a flesh wound – Sure, exotic armor was more expensive in terms of time to acquire the gold back then. I have to believe you because I didn’t play then. But back then it was also supposed to be the endgame gear, there was no ascended to go for. So perhaps if we are comparing now to launch, it would be better to compare exotics now to rare gear back at launch? I don’t know if they are comparable or not, but to me it seems that might be the way to go.

Either way, my initial comment in this thread was to reply to someone who clearly doesn’t understand what casual play is, I’d rather not get too caught up in discussions about what is and isn’t too expensive for an armor set.

And your point is what? With SB you have even less chance of being hit by those hounds with their telegraphed leap attack and you can use distance to make it even easier for yourself. You can also pull out thieves guild to make it even more easy for yourself. I don’t know how much easier this needs to be made for you and I feel like Infantile Mode SAB would pose a challenge to you with you wiping the sweat from your brow afterwards from such challenge.

I haven’t beat Tribulation mode, but I have beat normal mode SAB, and the final HoT fight, on the first try, as well as a great deal of other content this game has to offer. I beat this instance too, as I noted in the OP, I just died a lot to get there, and I don’t think that’s a fun experience. Again, if you liked it how it is, great, they can preserve that sort of experience as an optional challenge mode, but it should not be the default experience for players who are not particularly interested in challenge.

I call kitten. Judging off of what you’ve said in this thread, there’s no way you were able to beat the final instance of HoT story on your first try unless you just sat and let someone else actually do all the fighting. Both the Eir fight and the Pale Tree fight had more challenging mechanics than this fight did, and you had to do at least one of those.

OP clearly doesn’t know about the options his thief has to regain health.

OP clearly does know the options he has available, and the ones being discussed were either not part of his build at the time, or were not effective enough. Again, the point is not “tips for beating the fight,” as I said in the OP, I’d already cleared the fight, and therefore needed no additional tips. The point is “the fight should have been beatable on the first try, WITH OR WITHOUT ANY TIPS.”

And it was beatable on the first try. No deaths or downs needed. And it was beatable even going in blind.

Bosses requiring luck to show up. Bad design. Especially with putting titles requiring fighting them.

I think its great design. Makes the title take a bit of effort at least. Not just another show up and reap the rewards thing.

I know a person who did it exactly like that (managed to cap all legendaries within 10 minutes of logging to the map, with no effort put into it whatsoever, just as a sideeffect of chest farming). That’s the downside of RNG – it doesn’t require any effort. Just luck.

I’ve never understood why some players like to go around claiming that RNG rewards show effort? No they don’t, they just show luck. There’s no prestige in getting lucky.

Personally I don’t think these bosses were that hard to find, but I was reminded of this when I saw Malediktus’ comment about this being “effort” to kill them. Yes, you could put in effort and farm the map for hours every day until you find all 4 of them. But realistically its just pure luck about how long it takes you to kill all 4.

I agree with you, sort of. 100g for an armor set really isn’t that much considering the high price of leather right now. I mean hell that’s not even enough to craft 2 sets of exotic armor. Yes, I know that there are better ways of acquiring exotics, but this is mainly meant to show that 100g worth of crafting armor doesn’t get you far anymore in GW2. Wanting 2 sets of exotic armor doesn’t exactly make you a non-casual player. Yet that would require more than 100g to craft right now.

And I also disagree that casual players can’t want ascended, or that wanting ascended makes them not a casual player. This is a very fashion oriented game, if you want ascended skins then you want them, and the only way to acquire them is to pay to craft them.

Since you can salvage things from your material storage and not from your wallet it is a good thing they are there.

For the last time. We do not need the ability to salvage these currencies to obtain unbound magic! They can receive the pristine fractal relic treatment, where you use these currencies to buy a box that gives you a random amount of unbound magic. This technology already exists in the game!

The problem of them taking space in your bag has already been adressed why does it still trigger you so much? Besides some of them are basically crafing mats so it makes sense for them to be there. It would be cofusing to have half in the wallet and half in the bank.

That’s the thing, in my opinion the problem has not been addressed. As soon as you hit 250 of these currencies, your storage will be full and it will start piling up in your inventory again. This isn’t a solution to the problem.

Maybe.. just maybe..
YOU SHOULD EITHER SPEND THEM OR STOP GATHERING THEM!
you’re making a first world problem a nuclear war
seriously
If you don’t need them THEN WHY ARE YOU GATHERING THEM!?
If you do need them THEN WHY ARENT YOU SPENDING THEM!?

If your bank is full, and you have no intention of spending them, THEN STOP GATHERING THEM

I don’t gather them. I hate wasting inventory space on what is, essentially, a currency with a different name. Doesn’t mean I can’t disagree with a poor design when I see one

“100g you earn in a few days of casual play.”
That is utter kitten.

Is it? Doing dailies gives you 2g for 10-15 mins, if that much.
Doing a Silverwastes meta or one of the HoT map metas can take 1-2h and give you 30-50 champ bags. Take a conservative estimation of 15s per bag, that’s 4.5-7.5g.

Not to mention you could ride the champ trains in CS and FGS. Last night I went to FGS and spent ~1 hr there. I assure you, it doesn’t get any more casual than that. I ended up with 60+ chests and there’s also the map rewards (t6 mats, charged lodestones and giant eyes).

Not to mention you can go in Bitterfrost to harvest ~50 winterberries in ~20 mins. Every winterberry can be consumed for ~20 unbound magic, which can be converted to (conservative estimation) ~25c, meaning around ~5s per berry, ~2.5g in total.

I fully understand it is easier to complain, but it doesn’t make said complaints valid.

So, your idea of casual play is to go from 1 farm to another, to another, to another?

That’s not what casual players do.

Economics of Mystic Coin & Hardened Leather

Legendaries are absolutely luxury items. And ascended really has nothing to do with this conversation as they don’t require mystic coins or T6 leather.

changing stats is not a luxury, its a utility.

a luxury item is an item that has a direct relationship with its demand, ie its more desirable to rich people.
caviar, pearls, a lamborgini.

ascended and legendaries are desired from the moment you hit 80, regardless of wealth, because they are best in slot. and legendary is best in slot forever, for all situations.

people think that luxury and neccesity are the only two classifications of a good, but they wrong. just cause you dont need it to survive doesnt mean its a luxury.

a car is not a luxury if the normal course of your life, it is in your best interest to drive

an exp booster is not a luxury item, it has the same demand from a rich person and a poor person.

it seems the primary use of hardened leather is making insignias which are worth less than exotic armor that dont use leather to exist.

essentially hardened leather is the material of altering your ascended items stats. which is apparently a lot more common than it used to be. probably because of raids and possibly a more difficult open world.
there is no longer one size fits all, and items can be shared among charachters.

regardless of wether you think its a luxury or not, for some regular players its an item they will need later, that they dont feel should cost as much as it does, so they keep it, so they wont have to try to farm it later, or pay market value.

They are luxury items. Its the skin people want, and (AFAIK, correct me if I’m wrong) at the start of the game they didn’t even have the ability to stat swap. That was added later to add an incentive to spend the huge amount of gold it took to get a leg weapon.

Weapons tied to traits.

You missed the point by miles man.

A small source of alacrity isn’t gamebreaking, but its tied to the chrono line. Why should any other mesmer spec get access to it when its specifically tied to the chrono line? Answer me that.

For the sustain, you completely ignore it. I wasn’t talking about the damage you deal with shield (I seriously don’t even know why you brought up damage from offhands), I was talking about its sustain. And its incredibly high. 2 blocks, a quick way to get 2 phantasms up, alacrity, multiple sources of slow for enemies, on top of a huge source of AoE stun from Shield 5 is an incredible amount of sustain. Too much sustain to give to a full offensive spec. Way too much.

Well yeah I’m a Mesmer main and my Glamours(TW) that used to spread random conditions now grant resistance and super speed plus timewarp effects ten people now.

Chrono is a tank/support role in raids and my skills were changed to reflect that ignoring how it effects other modes. Thus I have to fall back on to racial skills for my condition builds because mass wastes time and the other elites are counterproductive to torment and confusion.

You are cherry picking really hard here to scapegoat raids. The change to remove glamors giving random conditions came before raids. The change to timewarp was stupid but it wasn’t a raid only decision, WvW also played a role in that.

Can’t blame everything on your favorite scapegoat. Please stop trying to. No one here is going to deny Anet and balancing is as good as the NFL and handling Social Issues.

tw effecting 10 ppl was a bad change?

Yes, because during the same patch they changed how quickness stacked making TW overwrite existing quickness stacks. If that wasn’t bad enough, by reducing the number of possible stacks TW itself became even more garbage as quickness stacked upto 5 times but TW pulsed it 11 times. So you’d guarantee you overwrote everyone’s existing quickness stacks and duration with a smaller value.

That’s a separate change/ TW affecting 10 people now is a good change to the skill. The way quickness stacking works was a separate issue and had little to do with this.
