I just noticed this, not sure if its a bug with Hearts and Minds or something else. But I’ve completed the instance, I have the achievement for it, yet the Dream Warrior achievement is showing no progress at all. It says I haven’t completed any of the ally fights in the instance

You don’t get any achievements on the first run.

Now that is annoying :/

Its a very annoying fight and you have to go through it at least twice to fight all 3 ally fights, it should count the ones you fight the first time you beat it

That and Resistance really needs to be updated to match protection instead of completely ignoring all effects from all conditions.

Either that or give it the stability treatment, where it stacks up and stacks are removed every time it nullifies a condition. This has the added benefit of drastically changing its interaction with boonshare. Boonsharing a stacking boon has no effect on its duration, only the stack size. This would make it so that boonshare comps could still burst up a ton of stacks of resistance a few moments before the engage to beef up their frontline, but they couldn’t just roll around permanently stacked up with resistance.

That could work too. Though just for clarification, if I had say 4 stacks of bleeding are you envisioning that taking 1 stack of resistance to nullify since its only 1 condition, or 4 stacks of resistance since its 4 stacks of a condition?

Another option that ANet has would be to change Resistance so that it only affects some effects of conditions. Either it could prevent them from hurting you, or prevent the movement impairing effects of conditions but not both. This would at least give the other group the chance to do something in the fight, whether it be merely hurt the boonshare blob or impede their movement.

Though like someone else mentioned, really the amount of condi application needs to be cut down as well.

Careful what you wish for. Just when you think you have the worse teammates there’s always worse. In unranked for example I won a 2v3 on a revenant with a thief against three warriors and a random warrior in another game died rushing mid 1v3. I’ve even seen some double cappers.

The MMR may need resetting to wash away lots of people who actually improved because they cared’s losses from a much weaker time (they got better but teammates stay the same notice how lots of new smurf accounts reached Legend).

(1 ele and 1 engi on a node? np let’s just 4v2 them for half the game)

That’s a design flaw. The best possible sustain should never outlast the best possible damage and shouldn’t have a lower skill floor than DPS. They’ll just follow you to another node anyway but yeah where they leave you can back cap.

Without MMR you’d see the truly bad on your team consistently. Unranked is a very mixed bag but typically has better matches than ranked.

Yes there are worse teammates out there, but that doesnt change the fact that the matchmaking system isn’t working great. Yes, its fantastic at giving people close to a 50% win rate, but too many of those wins are blowouts because of how it matches teams up. If you have a low MMR then everybody you fight should be around your MMR, not just the people on your team. There is no reason for the amount of 500 – 100 games that people are seeing this season, none.

If so that implies that our character is stronger than a god since he killed Mordremoth pretty much single handedly.

Single handedly? It took the Pact forces and all of their allies attacking Mordremoth’s body (Dragon Stand meta) to serve as a distraction so Player and Co. can sneak around to gain access and attack his mind. The player might have gotten the final blow in, but it still took the help of the other Bionics to kill him.

Meh that was always the weak part of the story to me. Its revealed to the player that even if his physical body is destroyed completely, he is so entrenched in Tyria at this point that he could recover and regrow it over time and be no worse off for it. Knowing that, I find it hard to believe that Mordremoth would really be paying more attention to the forces that at best can delay him, if they even succeed in killing his mouth, while you the player are attacking him in the one place he cannot recover. The elder dragons aren’t stupid creatures, and I find this part of the plot very hard to believe which is why I didn’t give it any credence.

Profession forcing rewards draging players into ranked are realy bad design unless you just want low skilled mass to feed on …

None of the dailies require you to play a ranked game. You might be thinking about the backpack achievements, and yes I agree that was a pretty bad idea to give such a tantalizing PvE reward locked behind a high PvP skill wall as it does frustrate PvPers who get stuck with the PvE players who aren’t very good but want that backpiece. But that is off topic

It doesn’t need a nerf. While the fight can be very frustrating its difficulty is perfect as it is right now. Considering that people have soloed migraine with multiple classes there is no reason to call for a nerf to the regular instance

Its possible to solo it, its just not designed to be an easy fight. After all you are taking down an elder dragon pretty much singlehandedly. Conditions are your friends. Especially for blighted Eir and blighted Canach load them up with conditions while kiteing around them avoiding their attacks. They will fall over pretty quickly. For mordremoth himself same thing for the first few phases, just keep conditions stacked up on him and avoid his attacks. When he summons Rytlock, Marjory, Caithe (if you didn’t pick her as one of the 2 NPCs to go with you) and the order person just do the same thing to them. Load them up with conditions and focus on evading all the attacks. They will die soon enough. The hardest part I’ve found so far is avoiding the rocks he throws at you while you are in the air, but I just have poor control while gliding

1 – Why should the biggest enemies be the toughest to deal with? Great, you thought the fights were easy, what do you want? Not all fights need to be extremely challenging, and what class you play does make a difference. Especially considering the ease of fighting everything outside of the HoT maps I really don’t understand why this is something that bothered you….

2 – I disagree. The waypoints during the night that remain uncontested should stay that way. During the night you have a limited time to kill multiple bosses in different parts of the map. Without an organized group going after each boss at the same time (which is hard enough to find) you have to rely on bursting down the bosses as fast as possible and hope you kill them fast enough to finish the meta before daybreak in the game. That’s hard enough right now as it is with people being allowed to WP back to the central waypoints if you don’t have an organized group, but if you forced them to waypoint back to one of the two entrances on the map then it would become downright impossible considering the wasted time by players making their way back to the boss fight.

3 – Tigers are there mostly for scenery and making the maps more believable, same as the warthogs. They aren’t designed to be mobs that are supposed to give you a challenge. That is what all of the mordrem and other jungle creatures are for. If you want to fight enemies that “ambush” you then go fight the itzel/coztic bladedancers before you have the stealth detection mastery. They are more annoying than anything else, but they will try to ambush your character.

4 – Why? Different people enjoy different playstyles. While its obvious you enjoy going out alone and fighting groups of difficult mobs, there are plenty of other players that enjoy the defense aspect that comes with the night in VB. But again, unless you had a coordinated group building up the camps during the day, defending them at night with just a few people becomes incredibly difficult, there’s no reason to funnel even more people out of the camps so they can go exploring when they could just as well do that during the daytime in the map.

Its great that you think these maps are easy, because there are a ton of people who complain about them being too difficult. But really it just sounds like you are looking for something to complain about.

Whether the limit is 250 or 1 million it consumes the exact same amount of space on the server, so this arbitrarily low limit is clearly all about adding tedium in order to make a few extra bucks.

1 million would takes 3 bytes to store, whereas 250 takes 1. Since the expanders break the 1 byte limit however, the actual limitation is likely either 16 or 12 bits (65k or 4k).

Not quite, it depends on how Anet has coded their game. 250 can be represented in only 1 byte. But in practice you would keep the bytes the same for the amount that each slot can hold. If each slot can hold up to 1 million items, then each slot would automatically be assigned enough bytes to represent up to 1 million items from the start. It makes crawling through the database so much simpler than having variable sizes for how many bytes represent the quantity of items in each slot in storage

I think so. Its all instances so leaving it in won’t affect LWS3 content at all. Plus some people have paid money for access to lws2 so I don’t think Anet should remove that access by removing the content.

Do I think I am entitled to legendary? Hell no, I know I’m nowhere near that good at PvP.

But I do think that I am entitled to fair matches. In unranked the matchmaking system is working “perfectly” in that I have exactly a 50% winrate. But that’s not indicative of good matchmaking, because 80% of the games I play are incredibly lopsided 500 – 200 or worse. Far too many games are 500 – 50, and the matchmaking system has put me on both sides of that. My experience with ranked was even worse. It was matching me with players who were far better than me on the other team, and my team never stood a chance.

Whatever algorithm the matchmaking uses is inherently flawed. In my experience with PvP so far the system matches the players on each team close to each other in terms of MMR, but it doesn’t match the teams up very well with other teams. Why does it continuously stack games so that its 500 – 200 or worse? That is poor matchmaking and that is what upsets people. Its not that they think they are entitled to reach legendary, its that they expect to be put in fair matches, regardless of whether they are on the winning or losing team.

How does the power of the human gods compare to that of the elder dragons? Are they strong enough to stop the elder dragons, possibly even kill them, if they wanted to? If so why haven’t they helped? Are they weaker than the elder dragons? If so that implies that our character is stronger than a god since he killed Mordremoth pretty much single handedly.

I just tried to solo hearts and minds as a mesmer and I got to the last phase before dying. I don’t have lean techniques yet and didn’t manage to get out of the way of a rock near the end of the last flying phase. It knocked me down and put me in the downed state right beside where Mordremoth started attacking after the flying phase ended.

While this isn’t necessarily broken, I would like it changed so that your allies still come to revive you in this last phase of the fight. There were 2 times earlier in the fight where I went down and they came to revive me right away. But in this last phase where I was right in front of Mordremoth they never came to revive me, and because of his attacks and summons I wasn’t able to heal myself. I don’t like it being inconsistent where your allies will help you get to this final phase but then not help you out in the final phase if you need it.

Other than that though this instance went a lot better than it did before it was fixed in the patch.

Boonshare isn’t the problem. The problem is that some classes can apply a lot of extremely powerful boons with almost no thought put into it. If the amount of boons generated, and the duration shortened, boonshare wouldn’t be nearly as much of a problem as it is now. Boons were always supposed to be supplemental bonuses, not something that you could expect to have all the time.

That and Resistance really needs to be updated to match protection instead of completely ignoring all effects from all conditions.

Late game solo condition build?

To be absolutely honest? I think taking a Mesmer condition build in HoT maps is shooting yourself in the foot. I mean, you can make it work, but it’s not really what the build specialises in. A Mesmer condi build deals probably the best DPS that a Mesmer can deal, but it has no burst, takes a long time to ramp up, and is completely single-target. In open world, where burst and AoE are so useful, it suffers.

If you really enjoy the playstyle, then I say go for it. Anything works in open world PvE. That said, my educated guess is that you will have a much easier time with a Greatsword / Sword+Focus/Shield/Sword power build, or with another class altogether.

Having said that, if you do go for it, I strongly suggest you take a pistol off-hand and the Duelist’s Discipline trait in Dueling, along with some crit chance in your build. This is not up for debate – confusion and torment are terrible conditions to deal in open world, because, as the guy above said, mobs are either standing still and attacking or moving and not attacking. They also don’t move or attack all that much to begin with. This greatly reduces the effective damage of confusion and torment. Pistol phantasms, on the other hand, can reach pretty great bleed stacks, and you can keep their uptime high thanks to Chronophantasma, so they’re definitely the way to go.

Yeah i know mesmer conditions are oriented to pvp but i don’t think i have any other options besides pure damage swords or shield variation. I know i won’t last long if i have to keep the swords playstyle, the condition build is the only one where i don’t see myself getting bored, since i really like it.

I’ll stick with pistol and try what you said, thanks for the advice.

Once you unlock the Chronomancer line and start learning some of the wells there you can survive in HoT with just about any weapons on your mesmer. I would say sword/sword is actually one of the stronger ones for close combat. It can deal out a lot of damage, has a way to close the distance between you and mobs (or if you are overwhelmed and Blink is on CD you can target a mob by itself further away and leap over there with sword 3), gives you 1 block along with over 2 seconds of blur on less than a 10 second cooldown.

Sure there is no condition damage in that build without some traits, but it makes melee combat a joke for most mobs. Take a focus on your off hand and you have the weapons to make a pretty big combo. Pull the enemies in a bunch with the focus, cast well of calamity if you have it unnlocked, leap over with sword3, then use blurred frenzy which will hit all of the mobs, and depending on their health you could shatter and then finish them all off.

Just reskin the ABL to desert theme?

Instead of reinventing the wheel why not just reskin Alpine borderlands to a desert theme? And it the centre they could be “creative” with a different mechanic.

Then make a third reskin as some other theme, again with the centre being a different mechanic.

Would work as a 100% rotation every 3 months or a mix of all 3 always. In fact it would be nice as I am kinda weak and forget which borderlands I am on once in a while without going to the map and reading its name ;-)

No, they shouldn’t. People who want DBl back don’t want it because they prefer the skin that the map has. They prefer it because they believe it to be a superior map design. Reskinning Alpine doesn’t change the map design, it won’t solve any problems there. Its just a waste of time

IDK I feel like if there were extra points awarded for capturing a structure with fewer people it would discourage the 50+ person blobs and at least bring the number down to 10-20 for the most part. That and also scaling a tower’s/keep’s/SM’s lord’s guards based on how many people are there like every single event in PvE. Just because you have 50 people attacking the lord doesn’t mean you should be allowed to steamroll him. Upgrade his guards to champions, add more guards around him etc…

I think it already scales lord fights. And the extra points with fewer people idea would only mean they blob it down and then half stay out waiting to blob the next objective.

The mentality behind being in a blob is that your lack of ability is compensated with numbers. Why put in effort when you can spam 1’s and faceroll for easier loot? Take away having the AoE cap and 50 player meat shield crutch and they’ll shrivel away, letting wvw become a better and more interesting place.

If it does scale it doesn’t scale particularly well. And no, ANet said previously that when they were considering having points be based off of server activity they would put in safeguards to prevent the leading server from having a bunch of people leave right before the tick so the other servers don’t get as much score. Its the same principle here. If a blob was used for any part of taking a structure (building/defending siege, killing lord etc) then that server would gain the base amount of points. The only way to score additional points would be to actually capture the structure with a smaller group, not use a blob and then have people peace out before the lord is killed.

Back on topic though:
The Problem with locking access to the tactivators is, that not many guilds have the coverage for 24\7 observation of those.
Every try to, for instance make it rank based or based of time spend on the Server is going to exclude New players, and right now i am glad that we have New people poking their noses into the mists.
I can’t see a solution to this, at least none that would be fair. It is bloody annoying how ever.

Simply lock free accounts out of using tactivators? That way someone would have to pay if they want to make a spy account on your server and burn your tactivators before their server attacks. Free accounts already have similar restrictions in pve, no reason to not do the same here.

I have theorycrafted many builds and i have done so since release, and a big part of this is finding nice mixes of stats. Some of the best combinations ive found require me to grind pve raids to get them(these HoT stats are exclusive to raid rewards, 1 or 2 from HoT story) Why is this the case? Good job trying to force me to raid but all youre doing is alienating the playerbase. Why can we noit aquire these for wvw through laruels+wvw badges?

I think they should remain exclusive to Raids. That’s challenging content that people have to put a lot of time into learning the fights in order to complete. They deserve to get exclusive stats as a result of that. Plus the best gear in the game shouldn’t just be handed out to you because you don’t feel like doing the content required to obtain it

No to RNG precursor drops. That’s vile; players shouldn’t be unevenly rewarded for their spent time in the game just because they hit a jackpot.

I’ve been here since early beta and I have YET to see a single precursor drop in all my playtime. I don’t want a repeat of that with HoT legendaries.

I’m in favor of RNG drops for items that can be traded on the TP (that’s an entirely different discussion). However, I’m with others as far as the 12 missing HoT weapons: no to RNG. I’d rather see ANet take longer to release them and stick to the idea of collection-only legendaries/precursors.

As an alternative, I’d love for ANet to devote a “little time” into an extra set of skins with some special effects… or at least 12 skins. The name of the set would be a nod to the player criticisms about the unfulfilled set of precursors/legendaries — one of the following:

  • Unpromised
  • Untrustworthy
  • Overhyped
  • Slaps in the Face
  • Bit-Off-More-Than-We-Could-Chew (or perhaps "more than we could ‘choo’ ")

I despised the tradeable 1.0 for the same reason I would despise it on 2.0.

Randomly giving people upwards of 1500 gold is absurd.

Objectives in WvW that are soloable ?

I’ve soloed everything on my Elementalist, Warrior, Guardian and Necro. That means camps, towers and yes, keeps. Never solo’d SM but I’ve duoed it.

Are you on a low population server? It seems that everytime I even run by SM I get several people from the other server chasing me, regardless of if I’m attacking or not. And taking SM…… yesterday I logged out after ~1 hour of trying to take SM with a blob of at least 100 people. Normally I don’t like blob play, but any chance I get at SM I take it.

Despite common belief, most events were not zerg based and could be brought back with little to no issue in continuity, and there were 30+ story instances across the board, only a handful of episodes needing their open world story to be translated into story instances (mainly The Lost Shores, Secret of Southsun, Cutthroat Politics, and Escape from LA/Battle for LA). Most of the work would come just from translating those old instances from being tied to achievements to being tied to the story journal, rather than reworking the content itself.

A recap that focuses on more than just Scarlet’s plot (which was half of Season 1) would be nice, but I think having the actual content in the game would be nicer, especially since the gap of the ratio of “those who played Season 1”:“those who didn’t play Season 1” is growing every day.

I would love it if this happened. I bought the game after LWS1 had ended and didn’t get to play any of it

I would even be happy if ANet didn’t allow us to complete the historical S1 achievements as long as I could play the story and be involved instead of watching a short video or reading a summary on the wiki

You think it is healthy that via linking we have now a even more cheap way to stack on a specific server? The bandwagoners we got a cupple month ago are now on Vabbi and Deso (your server I assume) got influx from SFR too (again via Vabbi). Lords: Don’t have a problem with the position of those lords but their “special” abilities. We have realy good fights in keeps/garri now again but on DBL the attacking team is on a disadvantage.

Towers: That goes both ways. You can preassure garrision from those towers too. If you were talking about trebs in invulnerable positions in citadel then I agree those need to get removed. It’s imho an exploit.

That’s kind of the point, no? The attacking team should be at a disadvantage when trying to take a tower or keep. The whole point of having an upgraded tower/keep is that as defenders you don’t need a zerg the size of the attacking force or larger to successfully defend. You should be able to defend with a smaller force if your players are any good.

In this thread the only real complaints I have seen against DBL is that it actually forces people to play differently. It doesn’t let you hide your trebs in a keep and attack other towers safely or vice versa, its less conducive to giant zergs (which not all WvW players enjoy) and its harder to just faceroll a Lord to take a structure. Its just complaints from people that don’t want to have to adjust their style of play.

Mixed Borderlands — Yea. I must be one of the few people that didn’t mind dessert borderland. I actually preferred parts of that map over parts of alpine borderlands

Linking Schedule — Right now I don’t care. I want to wait until the scoring updates are implemented. If they go a long way to making matches more even then the re-linking schedule can be longer (~3-4 months), if the scoring updates don’t even out matches too much then make re-linking more often (~1 month) so low population/activity linked worlds aren’t stuck in a hopeless situation for more than a few weeks at a time

Deployable mortars/cannons — Yea.

Repair hammer — Yea.

Next Priorities — Not really a priority I guess, but it would be cool to see guards use defensive siege equipment when a zerg is attacking a fully upgraded structure. Could be just the castle and keeps, or it could be castle, keeps and towers. Of course players would still have to build the siege, but then guards could hop on and use them

And unrelated but why is the daily WvW sentry capture achievement only require you to kill 1 sentry when the Camp Capturer achievement requires you to capture 2 camps? Sentries are a joke, you really should need to capture at least the same amount of sentries as camps, if not 3 sentries for the achievement imo

Anyone could have seen this coming from a mile away when The Ascension was announced.

The problem is there is no gate for it so that it should be a pvp exclusive option.

Like map completion in PvE. There should have been a gate of some sort so we could filter people who has no idea of how pvp works.

Requiring at least 60 days of playing PvP, requiring crossing divisions 10 times, the required wins, profession achievements. All of those are the gate to the PvP backpack.

Your suggestion to make people play 2,000 unranked matches before being allowed to enter the ranked matches, and therefore before being allowed to even start the achievements towards getting the backpack, is absurd. If we’re sticking to PvP vs PvE its almost like you suggesting that a PvE player would have to put in 500 hours of PvE playtime before he can start going for map completion to earn the gift of exploration needed for pre HoT legendaries. The required achievements are the gate to the backpack, in the same way that map completion is the gate to preHoT legendary weapons. Its stupidly redundant to want to put a gate on being able to access the gate to something.

Worst match i ever had in ranked

Yup that seems to be my experience with ranked games right now. I know I suck at PvP but in unranked I was right on 50% win rate. Play my first 2 ranked matches and the scores look like this, except I was on the losing team. Lost by over 600 points at Champion’s Dusk.

I know I suck at PvP, but forreal? What kind of matchmaking system put those teams together?

I thought the whole point of the Skyhammer is that you go capture that node when it opens and the hammer rains death on nodes A, B, and C and gives them to your team. But I just played a match on beta skyhammer where I captured the skyhammer node all 3 times it was available and the cannon did not fire once or give us any nodes.

It was a close match that we lost, if the skyhammer had fired even once we probably would have won the match.

Ascension still possible starting now?

If you start now, and get to Legendary for both S3 and S4, you will get it. Also, honestly getting to Legendary is not that hard. Just play strictly 3 games a day, regardless of win/lose.

Why only play 3 games a day?

I don’t agree. If players are stuck in the same league all season then its for a reason. Not everyone is good enough to reach Legendary, or even Diamond, league. Its just a fact.

This just happened to me for the first time. Only me and 7 of the other 9 players hit accept when the queue was ready, and after it timed out I naturally tried to queue again only to be told that I had dishonor due to someone else not hitting accept and had to wait.

Why is it implemented like this? Why punish everyone for something that only 1 or 2 people in the queue did?

For Auric Basin, well, first the chest needs to be renamed to “Auric Basin” and not “Auric Basic”, but we also have these possible changes:

  1. First of all, that chest can’t be found right now, or at least I never got it, because you’re supposed to get it from Grand Exalted Chests which never drop it for me. Make it drop from the event of liberating Tarir instead. The basic reward is a Maguuma Burl which again should just be the map’s currency, 25 Lump of Aurilium, once a day. I know the Burl is used for Amalgamated Gemstone, but bear with me, I’ll get to that eventually.
  2. The first reward, once again, scrap it for a rare item that corresponds to the Faction Provisioner demands. This option is for accessibility of those vendors.
  3. The second reward is a joke, nobody needs 1 Auric Slivers. You need 3300 total Auric Slivers and 3300 total Lumps of Aurilium to even get every last Auric Ingots for your Auric Weapon collection if you want to make all of them. Instead of giving Slivers out, give Ingots out. It should be 1-2 Ingots, with a VERY rare chance of getting a weapon, exactly like the Chak reward option. This makes it fair, because if you just want a few weapons, you’ll get the ingots to make them with a chance of randomly getting the right one you want which may not happen, and if you want all of them it’ll really help in the long run, making it a very good reward and more in line with the others. As it stands, the Auric Backplate is such a harsh collection that this would help those who want to go for that. This option is for people who want to get the Auric Backplate or just want more Auric Weapons.
  4. The third reward should again be 5 Exalted Keys, 15-25 Lumps of Aurilium and 1 Greater Potion of Auric Attunement. This option is for people who want to participate in the next meta events and need the currency / loot from caches / cargo.

I really like your third idea here for Auric Basin Heros choice chests. 1 Auric Silver is not really worth the effort that it takes to finish the meta event, even if it is a short one.

Clipping issue in Vigil Keep

I was doing the Char level 30 personal story mission [I]Defending the Keep[/I], and started getting this horrible clipping issue near the back of the keep. After I finished the mission and came out of the instance I went back to the same spot and had the same clipping problems. Best I can figure is that the camera tries to go through the pile of logs you can see in the first picture, and then it screws up somehow, because I only got the issue when the camera was in the general area of that pile of logs. First two pictures show the location I was at where the problem occurred, second two pictures show the clipping problem itself.

What I’d like most in WvW are rewards scaled to opposition faced. For example, if a solo player engages 3 enemies and wins, that player’s loot should be greater than that of one of the 3 enemies if they win.

I think a single player who can capturer a map objective such as a camp or tower should be rewarded more than a player who is simply following a zerg of 30+ players who can’t help but win against undefended objectives. This kind of reward system would encourage players to approach the territory capture aspect of the game with more strategy without completely ruining the zerg experience for those who enjoy that sort of thing.

As an aside, I love that this type of feedback is being used to improve the game. Of course, I think the poll should be in the game (as they were during beta), where the maximum number of players can vote. There is a large population of players who don’t watch the forums; but, are interested in helping improve the game.

I think this is a really cool idea.
