@XTR.9604 and others:

In addition to what i’ve just posted- i’ve already heard/and seen Afkers.

People that gain a little bit of xp- wait 9 or so minutes…Kill something else- Wait again.

It’s becoming progressively more common.

I find it funny how WvWer’s are over here with grins on there faces thinking this is a positive thing- or that it’s actually good for your community.

Here- let me put into perspective for ya-

1.) You now have PvEers filling up your ranks- Whom you now how to carry-who don’t know the maps, or wth is going on- In zerk gear! Grats! Best be getting your healing hands ready!

2.) You now have afkers filling up your que spots at night! How does that feel! Must feel great, knowing that each night while your in que- there is someone like me tagging a mob and than chilling at the keep every 9 minutes not doing squat.

It feels soo good right! What a fantastic change!

That’s your problem there. A lot of the WvW players who are super excited about this don’t actually think it will improve WvW. They are just so immature that they are wetting their pants because now PvE players will have to “suffer” a game mode they don’t prefer just how WvW players have always had to “suffer” through PvE to get a legendary. They don’t think this will improve WvW they are just excited to see other players being forced to play a game mode they don’t enjoy

Every class has access to a stun break, if they carry it and its not on CD you can’t lock them down as easily as a power shatter mesmer, and a lot of players that aren’t as good with the build will burn through their shatters right as the other player stun breaks and escapes. They don’t wait to keep them locked down.

Also I’ve seen guardians and warriors just ignore anything I’ve thrown at them before. The little damage I’ve done is almost instantly healed through regen or a regular heal. Didn’t matter if it was a power shatter build, a condi bomb build or other build I’ve seen too many other players just flat out ignore my burst

You get pristine fractal relics from the daily fractal chests. So just hop into the game, check which fractals are the dailies under the Fractal tab in the Achievements panel in the Hero Panel and then open the LFG tool and join any groups doing those fractals.

Some people consider it good manners to tell the party that you haven’t done that fractal yet. Its not required but it may help keep them from getting frustrated when you don’t know where to go or what to do next. You will only have access to 3 or 4 dailies a day right now due to a lack of agony resist, so it will take you two days to get the stone. Overall its pretty quick and quite fun

The API keys that you submit to GW2efficiency (or any other site that accepts them for that matter) only allows the site to fetch your data from ANet’s servers. The site can’t modify the data in any way. They can’t take anything away from your account or add anything to it. Its perfectly safe to give them the key. Plus, when you make the API key you can choose which permissions to give it. If you only want to be able to check your wardrobe on GW2efficiency then you only have to give it the “Unlocks” permission and it will only be able to see what skins, dyes, tonics you have and what you are wearing on your characters, nothing else.

The chance of them doing this was thrown out the window when they went f2p partially, f2p games usually flood their cash shop with as much as possible (look how many outfits and new weapons have been added).

Sadly this is true. This is one of the biggest reasons why I can justify to myself spending money on gems for things like the expansion and access to the LWS2 episodes. The game is good enough to pay money for, but because people don’t have to ANet needs a new way to make money regularly. And after a point most of your playerbase who will shell out money for convenience items already has them so the company has to eventually turn their gem store into a cosmetic factory to keep people interested in buying gems

Its unfortunate but it is what it is

The champions are easy. They are just as hard, if not a little easier, than the champions in HoT maps which is perfect imo. I can understand how the first time you fight them could be frustrating because of the new mechanics, but other than that the fights are pretty straightforward. Same thing for the legendary bandit but the fight is a bit more annoying because he just has annoying mechanics

Anet never promised there would be no grind. They did say there would be no grind for BIS gear. Obviously even that’s questionable with ascended weapons which were meant to be a longer term goal but you absolutely don’t need a legendary weapon. It’s an optional feature.

It’s something put into the game to give people who want to grind, something to work towards. Some people like and need that.

No required grind is very different than no grind. No grind for BIS gear is very different from no grind.

Even ascended, you don’t need them to play the game, except for the highest level fractals.

May I ask what cool, special weapons/armors are available out there that us non-grinders are able to obtain? It just feels like all of the cool stuff is meant for the few who have the time and money to do it.

While some of them can be a bit of a grind to get the materials, its nothing like the grind for legendaries, and in most cases is far easier (if not slightly more expensive) than grinding the materials for ascended gear too. But all of the unique exotics that were released into the game before ascended gear would be an option. Personally I think these are some of the coolest skins in the game. I love legendaries, but I see them everywhere and I don’t see nearly as many of these unique exotics being towed around.

I mean why would they remove the requirements of Scribing using the new materials that were introduced with HoT specifically for scribing? That doesn’t really make sense.

And they are more expensive because not everyone has or plays in HoT maps, which means fewer players are getting those materials.

Why no Slayer achievements for HoT mobs?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: OriOri.8724

OriOri.8724

Slayer achievements hand out too much AP for normal game play… or at least that’s a trend I’ve noticed since release.

When GW2 released, AP was given out like candy (literally if I remember one of the LS season 1 updates that I missed but heard about), then things shifted with them removing champ bags and loot from LS mobs because people would farm them after getting the achievements done in the first week (now they just don’t bother with the content in the second week). With the removal of loot came the removal of, in my opinion, the easier AP tasks. I also think this was the beginning of the game shifting away from casual focus to where it is now, hopefully it returns for a time before shifting back again.

The coins and such in Dry Top and Silverwaste are easy but do not come from regular game play (such as killing mobs), and pay out AP poorly. All of season 2 pays out poorly. I may be remembering incorrectly, but each update I could usually get a significant amount (one quarter to a half) of an AP chest out of doing the achievements. Now that seems closer to one tenth of an AP chest.

I agree though, that slayer achievements need to be updated to include a lot of the new groups added (scarlet minions should be added-which might make the toxic stalk events around Kryta played to be completed for a time, Zhaitan should not be the only one with an achievement, etc…).

Comparing S1 to S2 kinda shows this. S1 AP: 2047 (from the releases I remember that were story specific, not from holiday’s/regular festivals) S2 AP: 548 (Silverwaste and Dry Top bump this up to 891, which still isn’t even half of S1 and that is probably missing some releases too)

Yeah… no wonder it seems like my AP has been growing at snails pace since I missed a lot of S1 for various reasons. One reason for this is S1 seemed to have a lot more updates (temporary), and the S2 achievements were locked behind rerunning the story ON THE SAME CHARACTER which I haven’t bothered doing yet. This also enforces my theory that AP is going away from normal game play, because why reward someone for just running through a S2 story when you can make them go through it again on the same character to get them?

Even ignoring the fact that S1 seemed to have WAY more updates, in general they had more AP per update too. S1 consistently had 100+ (some even 200+) AP per update, only one of S2 had over 100, over half were 75 or less.

I agree. Looking at the historical Achievements on GW2efficiency, the older ones associated with LWS1 releases gave out huge amounts of AP. And the newer ones give out negligible amounts.

I get it Anet, you wanted to slow down the older players from reaching 40K+ AP which would make you feel like you had to add new rewards to those higher levels of AP other than just the pinnacle skins. But for newer players this is quite annoying. At the pace of AP that I can gain from these achievements, it will take me until 2020 to start earning my pinnacle skins and I don’t think that is fair at all. I’m still a paying player after all. I actually counted it all up, without the daily AP, I am capped at about 13k AP assuming I complete all of the other achievements that are current;y available to me (all of them, all of the path of ascension achievements, all of the WvW achievements with their huge numbers, all of the wardrobe and collection achievements. All of them.) Which isn’t even enough to get half of the Zenith skins.

Mini rant aside I just don’t understand why we don’t have new Slayer achievements, or for that matter any new achievements in the general tab for HoT. Yes we have the HoT achievements tab, but none of them are similar to the general achievements in Central Tyria yet there are so many things in HoT that could be an achievement

I don’t think it would be a huge loss in sales. Yea there are a few people who currently buy multiple sets of harvest tools for their various characters (but I’m sure this list isn’t that big). Of course not all 2h weapons can be used in one hand, but half of them are perfectly usable(Staff/GS/Hammer). The idea behind that is to have more options. More weapon sets.

Perfectly usable with one hand is a bit of a stretch. For a norn or charr yea they could probably swing a GS with one hand. But an asura or sylvari or human? Not a chance.

What's the timeline in HoT?

in Lore

Posted by: OriOri.8724

OriOri.8724

How long has it been between the Pact Fleet being brought down and destroyed by Mordremoth and your character making it to Dragon’s Stand with the best of the best of the Pact and killing the Mouth of Mordremoth?

Based on the HoT storyline it can’t have been too long since you are tracking Eir, Logan, Zojja and Traehearned and it seems like it doesn’t take too long for Mordremoth to finish his whatever he does with them in the pods. But if you take a step back and look at some of the events, these are things which would take time.

Securing the outposts in VB? That would take weeks to make them truly secure against Mordrem and Wyvern attacks due to having to gather up wounded, take the time to treat them, gather up lost supplies in the woods, and actually build up the camp’s defenses. The AB meta surrounds Tahrir and not so much the Pact. But it does feature a bunch of Priory members studying ruins, which is also something that doesn’t happen in a matter of just a few days. Likewise in TD, finding and exploring Rata Novus. Getting those systems running (Taimi is a beast!). Actually studying the Chak and discovering that not only can we use them against Mordremoth, but figuring out how to actually do this and then going and actually doing it. And then the final fight against Mordremoth. Even just in DS that would take a significant amount of foreplanning, and no matter how good these guys are if they were running through the rest of the HoT maps they weren’t exactly having picnics and had a bunch of time to nail down there strategy before getting to DS. Then of course there is the actual campaign heading to the mouth to slay it.

All of that would add up, suggesting that the Pact spent several months at least between crashing and actually getting up to fighting Mordremoth. But that timeline doesn’t really line up at all with what you would expect from the HoT story.

so unfair guys they stack higher division on the other team. MM choose the winners by doing that? huhuhu i need to L2P…

611 – 18 is all that should need to be said for that SS

Like others have pointed out, the divisions are meaningless. But your SS is, ironically, a perfect example of what is wrong with the matchmaking in this season. Look at how kittening stacked that game was!!! Blue team managed to kill the Red lord and keep the Red team from getting even 20 points. Red team didn’t get more than 3 kills combined that entire match, assuming they even got a kill at all. The lack of balance in teaming up players is atrocious. Random matchmaking provides more even matches than this just due to statistics. Matches like this should not be happening, and they most definitely should not be happening nearly as often as they are happening this season. Regardless of which side of the blowout you are on, its just not fun to play such a lopsided game. Yet the matchmaking system seems to give players 4 or 5 such lopsided game for every sorta not lopsided game.

one of the reasons i hate Alpine so much, is that there’s only one tower per side. towers are a lot smaller than a keep, so there should be at least 2 towers for every keep on a map, in my opinion. i will admit that i was disappointed in DBL for not having more towers as well, but it felt different.

That’s kinda the point of a borderland, where the home team has a slight advantage in having an extra tower closer to their spawn. Which is why every side needs a borderland to keep it fair. EBG is the middle ground map that has equal amount of towers and keeps and camps for each side.

i didn’t say anything about removing home team advantage…. i didn’t ask for the extra tower to be removed from the home team …

i asked for more towers… right now there’s basically 1 tower per keep. i want at least 2 towers per keep to make it more interesting. i’d prefer at least 3 towers per keep on the larger DBL

(and what i mean is… there’s 3 sides, so add 3 more towers. there’s 3 keeps, there should be at least 6 towers. because the tower is a smaller objective than a keep. so there should more towers than keeps: in my opinion, at least twice as many towers as there are keeps. if there’s currently 4 towers and 3 keeps on the map, i want there to be 7 towers and 3 keeps. (4+3=7, after all) )

the home team would still have it’s advantage if each side was given an equal number more towers… especially if they’re placed correctly.

adding towers means more objectives to fight over.

home team advantage is based on position of objectives in relation to starting positions, not total number of objectives.

that’s all i have to say about that. off top the kitchen for more bacon… that i will not share with people who try to explain something to me that’s totally irrelevant to my suggestion, and that i already know. i will however share the bacon with those who freely admit to Bacon Defeciency Disorder striking again. especially since i suffer from it greatly, and sometimes misinterpret posts and respond based on my misinterpretations.

tl;dr adding more towers would not affect home team advantage as long as the towers are strategically placed to maintain the home team advantage without dramatically changing the overall percentage of the advantage. ( i fell i shouldn’t have had to explain this because adding towers =/= removing home team advantage ) i suffer from Bacon Defeciency Disorder and as a result, sometimes grumpiness. my bad

I do think that BL maps could use more towers. I agree with you in that Towers are smaller, easier objectives so there should be more of them than there are keeps. If each map has 3 keeps then they should have 6 towers (+-1 for balance depending on size of the map and whatnot) and have at least 9 camps. It just makes sense to me to have more of the easier objectives than about the same amount as the harder objectives.

Portal is a largely borken and useless mesmer skill at this point any way, compared to its original design.

Originally, there was no “hit f” interaction, as it was primarily used as a combat tool. the mesmer and his allies could use to to warp back and forth between points in combat as much as they wanted to flank/confuse mobs, etc.

These days it is literally only ever used to skip mobs in dungeons, cheese jumping puzzles, or to move around in wvw.

In truth it should absolutely be a utility item, and the mesmer’s version should be changed to something more useful in an actual fight.

Yes I agree that portal was cooler back then but you know ANet, they can’t separate PvE and PvP skills so portal was changed to better accommodate the PvP players. Its still a nice and fun skill to use though

I’d hardly call portal something Iconic to mesmer, especially if we are going to consider how old mesmer actually is as a class….

It’s a real shame what they call mesmer in GW2 is such a departure from how it played and the real Iconic skills it had in GW1. Things like Panic, Cry of Frustration, Fragility all the fun hexes that actually defined that class.

This is a GW*2* forum. Its fine if you think the GW2 mesmer is but a shadow of the class as it was in GW1, but that is not relevant to the discussion because core mesmer in GW2 was never the mesmer from GW1. Bringing that version of the class up is irrelevant and only serves to derail the thread.

Portal is pretty iconic. Mesmer remains the only class that can port others at will a sizeable distance in any game mode. Sure other classes have teleport skills but none of them can take someone else with them or let others use their teleport when they want provided it hasn’t timed out yet.

Why no Slayer achievements for HoT mobs?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: OriOri.8724

OriOri.8724

Technically, mordrem would fall under the plant slayer, as would the shrooms. Chak likely fall under insect slayer, with bristlebacks falling under…. shell slayer maybe? Granted, that would require anet actually setting flags n stuff so that they are counted towards em.

They should but they don’t. Way back when I first entered HoT maps I thought the mordrem would count towards the plant slayer achievement and then found out they don’t. Still not entirely sure what does count for that achievement though………

Risen/Zhaitan’s Bane is a bit of an anomaly. None of the other ‘corrupted’ dragon minions (ie not including Svanir) have slayer achievements either – no destroyer, branded or icebrood.

Come to think of it, I don’t think any slayer achievements were added post launch – Karka didn’t get one either. Could be one of those things they overlook during design. I remember reading how they stopped giving out new titles for a while because it never came up as a consideration – could be the same situation.

I think that the other dragon minions don’t have achievements because they still count for the regular slayer achievements. What I mean is that I’m pretty sure a branded Minotaur still counts for the minotaur achievement. And Svanir Sons and Risen were the only 2 dragon minions that dind’t fall into another slayer category at launch, which is why I think we should also have a Mordrem slayer achievement.

I hope that Anet plans on implementing slayer achievements for HoT mobs and possibly Karkas (forgot about those in the original post) because I rather enjoy seeing those achievements pop up. Its a nice measure of just how much grind I have done in a zone lol

I just find it strange that we didn’t get new slayer achievements for killing chak, mushrooms, mordrem, bristlebacks etc…. Pretty much every single mob in central tyria has a slayer achievement, even the passive scenery animals, yet not one of the mobs in HoT has a slayer achievement and I don’t really understand why not. Yea we would practically be handed the achievements for mordrem and chak slaying if you do the story and do TD events, but we were also just handed the Risen slayer achievement by playing through the personal story and the Orr maps so I doubt that is the reason.

Those veteran mordrem vine thrashers or whatever they are called are annoying for melee too. The ones that constantly swoop up in the air to drain the health of everything in their rather large circle. The only way to avoid healing them is to stay ranged.

I don’t know if things are unfriendly to melee, but I do find a lot of enemies in HoT, mainly in the TD map, to be much more annoying then fun to fight. Almost everytime I get in a fight in that map I find myself getting kittened off because I don’t think any of those encounters are fun, they are all just a pain in the kitten to me. No. A large part of the appeal of Raids and their account bound rewards are that it means you had the skill that most players don’t and you were able to kill the raid bosses. I don’t think they need to be made easier, not all game content should be available to all players regardless of skill level. Some of it is stuff you should have to work for

That I cannot answer. But I suspect that it has something to do with giving players the chance to run away from combat they don’t want to engage in if they want to. If mobs could run at the same speed as you it would just be incredibly annoying to run from combat considering how far some mobs will chase you before losing interest.

I thought you were going to say they should have some kind of traversal system in play like focus running in 9Dragons or gliding in Blade and Soul….those were fun. I’ll settle with removing combat slowdown though….why is it even necessary in the first place? It’s not like cast times or cooldowns are slowed to give players more opportunities to d……

It’s because of pvp isn’kitten

I was thinking in pve, but if people were running around at the speed of out of combat swiftness then getting your strikes and aoes to land might be challenging. Well if pvp is the reason then leave it to pvp and remove combat slow from pve then. Everybody wins.

I think it has more to do with not allowing you to just endlessly dodge mob attacks in PvE by simply running away from them. If your speed wasn’t slowed down while in combat most if not all mob attacks wouldn’t be able to catch up and actually hit you. This forces you to actually enter combat or do something to get out of it

I sincerely hope you aren’t one of the people screaming in ecstasy about PvE players now being “forced” to do WvW to get the GoB because that would be a crazy level of hypocrisy.

I disagree though. Why should you be allowed to purchase anything for heroic notaries, a technically unlimited currency, that is bound by laurels in other game modes, a currency that is by its very nature time gated to a small trickle?

Is GW2 demanding more and more time from us?

The only things that I think are excessive in terms of completion are the skins and the miniatures, especially if you missed LWS1 for any reason and now have to buy those skins/miniatures instead of having had the chance to get them as achievement rewards. Just because of the shear amount of them, and the extremely high price for some of the older ones (of the ones that aren’t account bound in the first place) that are no longer obtainable except through buying it on the TP

@cptaylor – I haven’t started raiding yet so I did not know that but thanks for the information. It does do a lot to tie both themes together into the same plot.

Hey guys, since I’m seeing this topic pop up a lot, I wanted to step in and clear up some misconceptions.

1. Nearly every player that voted, plays WvW at least somewhat regularly.

2. Whether they play 1 hour a week, or dozens of hours a week, the breakdown between people who voted ‘Yes’ or ‘No’ remains very constant around the 65/35 split.

3. The in-game poll notification mail is only sent to players who are actively playing WvW. They must be at least rank 10, and have ranked up while the poll was running.

Thank you for speaking up and doing away with this asinine belief that “real” WvW players don’t like DBL and were being “drowned out” by the players that don’t ever play WvW.

Newsflash guys, just because we have a different opinion does not mean that we don’t also play the same game mode as you. You are not that important or special

Dear me. This thread makes me appreciate WvWers. Some of the comments are just unbelievable, coming from adults.

You think the WvW players are being any more mature than the PvE players? You must have been reading a different thread. The WvW players were the ones spouting off such gems as

“I had to suffer so its only right that you have to suffer too”

not the PvE players

No I think the point was that legendaries shouldn’t be something given away like candy. If you want it, you need to master both game modes. It makes getting one extra valuable because you put in the work, whether it’s in pve that wvwers hate but follow the rules, or in wvw, that pve players flatly refuse to do.

You’re not seeing the dichotomy?

The bottom line is you have a choice. Put in the work and get the shiny, or just don’t get one. It really doesn’t have that much impact on your game play by not having one.

I agree that Legendaries should require effort to craft yourself, I don’t think I ever said otherwise. But this change was the wrong way to go about doing that. For one, why does ANet expect me to be content with having to put in an extra 7+ hours of WvW specific play for each legendary I want to craft compared to the people who crafted them before this change and could buy all of their GoB? Why am I expected to be content with being required to do extra for the same reward? Why does ANet think that the people who were saving up their badges instead of buying GoB right away to save inventory space (because with all the bags and junk we get inventory space is a premium for most players, a lot can’t justify wasting a space to hold a GoB indefinitely while they gather the rest of the materials to craft the legendary) will be content with their work now being negated? They put in the work at the time to earn a GoB. They did and you can’t deny that. So why was it taken away from them?

Yes. Crafting legendaries should require you to participate in all game modes and it should not be easy. But this was a particularly poor way to force that to happen

@curtegg they still don’t balance all that well in PvP though considering we have classes you can fall asleep playing and still win the game and then we have classes like Mesmer where you can even be above average and still be facerolled by someone playing specific classes.

But yea mesmer is awesome. Coolest class I have played in any MMO by far

I’d really love to see mainhand focus. Offhand focus already bundles in a nice mix of support, offense and defense with its 2 skills, it would definitely be so much more awesomer with another 3 skills on the bar

@apharma – Clearly you didn’t get the memo. As of the April 19th patch, any action which requires more than zero thought is now the result of hacking. ANet decided that to level the field they would ban any actions that required even a minimum of thought so those poor scrapper players could have a chance
