HoT Powercreep

in WvW

Posted by: OriOri.8724

OriOri.8724

HoT traits and builds have RUINED wvw and pvp. The powercreep right now is absolutely absurd. I’ve played since release and I can clearly feel the difference during combat. HoT builds are really strong, barely take any skill to use and give you more room for error. It’s nothing but spam. I’m tired of it.

Is it even possible to fix?

How about we greatly improve those neglected core profession weapons and slot skills and traits instead?

Yes they could use some improvement, but really I think a better solution would be to nerf the passive procs and multiuse skills that HoT brought to the elite specs. The solution to a powercreep isn’t to make everyone more powerful again, its to take away the biggest causes of the creep. And that is passive boon/condi application, insane amount of uptimes on boons, skills that do 4 or more things at once etc…. That needs to be toned down a bit, probably a lot.

But I don’t think it will. I think a lot of the power behind elite specs comes from the increased difficulty in HoT maps. ANet really wanted those maps to be available to everyone with HoT, even the not so great players, so they had to make elite specs incredibly strong (and this is probably where all the passives come from) so that these players could survive in those maps more easily.

Question about upgrade slots...

Focus is by far my favorite secondary that regular mesmers have access to. Not quite as strong as sword phantasm, but when traited to reflect projectiles its much more useful and also gives you easy access to quickness and stacking enemies.

For your actual gear, one of my guildmates suggested running knights gear on a mesmer. It boosted her survivability way over that of my full zerker mesmer and she didn’t really lose that much damage out of it either. I’m in the process of switching now, but really if you plan on sticking to regular PvE it shouldn’t matter that much because the mobs are easy to kill.

Upgrade slots depend on whether you want to focus on power or condition damage. I like condition damage in PvE so I use nightmare runes because they are dirt cheap and provide a nice condition boost. Greatsword is a good weapon because of its range, scepter is also a fun main hand weapon in general PvE.

You can’t defend ridiculous requirements without also defending those players who don’t meet the requirements but are more than experienced enough to contribute so they end up telling a white lie to pass your entrance exam.

Since when will be a requirement ridiculous if 9 out of 10 people joining “experienced” runs are failing hard?
I tested it several times with friends, “Exp” lfgs or something like that are only successful at VG. But even there you won’t have consistency. You can forget such lfgs for Gorse & Sab. Won’t work in almost all tries. On the other hand there were just one “full eternal” group I left at VG because it was a clown festival.

The problem is that LI isn’t a measure of whether someone is good at Raiding or not. They could have 80 LI and still somehow managed to never even fought Matthias. Yet just from asking how many LI they have you would now assume they would be helpful in that fight. Unless you are only running with people you know then you can never be 100% sure that people are really actually good at raiding, especially that specific wing/boss. but that still doesn’t change the fact that asking for 50+ LI to go in Wing 1 is ridiculous. It doesn’t mean they are good, they could have been carried through all 50 boss clears. Having none also doesn’t necessarily mean that they will suck. There are a lot of great PvE players that just haven’t been raiding long yet but they could help you out. LI is a terrible metric to use.

Mesmer is actually a really strong class, just not in personal dps (damage per second). They bring a lot of utility that can help out parties tremendously with their unique trait Alacrity (chronomancer only, this requires you to get HoT expansion to access). Its also a lot of fun to play, and if you are a good player then a lot of people would always love to have you in their party for the support and utility you can bring to them.

Don’t worry – those of us that organize PUGS can tell pretty often if you just took a code off a list. At least I know how to catch people I suspect of this pretty easily.
And it’s very satisfying to kick them too.

I don’t know if this was directed at me or not, but I haven’t even tried raiding yet. I’m too focused on general achievements right now to learn the mechanics of those fights atm. Yes you have all rights to put whatever ridiculous requirements you want on a group. And likewise other players have just as many rights to scoff at those if they know they can contribute in a run. This still goes both ways. You can’t defend ridiculous requirements without also defending those players who don’t meet the requirements but are more than experienced enough to contribute so they end up telling a white lie to pass your entrance exam.

From now on I will name all my hate posts like this.

I hate these things. Same could be said about all HoT enemies but these take the spot. The melee ones are easy enough but the ranged ones (zappers and lobbers) and the one veteran with the thorns shield are the worst. People complain about the damage that HoT enemies do and these are no different. Anything below 16k HP gets taken down instantly by the veterans nearly impossible to see zap plus they are always accompanied by lobbers and zappers. Makes some areas in the TD impossible to travel.
(Dont even mention chak sentries because devs think they were such a great idea.)

Chaks are fantastic let them be! Not everything in the game has to be a defenseless goblin waiting to explode when the protagonist look at it.

Give yourself some times and you will learn to deal with them properly. Same for Mordrems and the rest…

Can’t speak for OP but learning how to fight Chak effectively didn’t make me hate them any less. Same with mushrooms. I just find them to be incredibly annoying enemies

The biggest change I want to see is points for capture that scales inversely off the size of the “blob”. Past a certain size you would get no points for capture as you just facerolled the whole objective, but say you took a tier 3 keep with 5 people total contributing, then you should receive a pretty hefty piece of warscore for your efforts. Probably harder to implement than anything else they are considering, but I think this is the biggest thing that could combat the current “everyone must be in a blob” mentality that so many players seem to have. It also helps the lower population servers more by potentially rewarding their skilled players far more than skilled players in the blobs from the larger servers, which could go some way to balance the warscore even without skirmishes.

Mastery system improvements (shorter ver.)

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: OriOri.8724

OriOri.8724

This sounds like a horrible idea. All it seems is that you want to drag the mastery system out even longer with no real reason other than you don’t like the current progression. But you aren’t even looking at it correctly. The Gliding mastery line is a mastery line for gliding, not for catching updrafts. Learning to catch an updraft is one step in mastering gliding, there’s no reason to break that up into much more annoying chunks to drag it out.

The only thing I agree with is that you should gain some mastery experience if you are actually doing the action. Gliding should give you some gliding experience, trivial amounts. Trying to use bouncing mushrooms should give you trivial amounts of experience towards that mastery if you haven’t earned it yet. Eating adrenal/speed mushrooms should give you a condi (probably poison) if you don’t have the mastery, but should give you experience towards it as you are actually training your stomach to eat them.

We need more sources for former LW materials

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: OriOri.8724

OriOri.8724

I agree with OP, there needs to be more ways to obtain LWS1 reward Yes there is a promotion recipe for blade shards, and there is a gem store item that rewards you with bucketloads of watchwork sprockets. But there is no reliable way to farm them yourself without using gems for the mining pick. The home instance node gives you a relatively low amount. And quartz/charged quartz is another matter entirely…..

But more generally we need more ways to acquire LWS1 rewards, not just these materials. I have no problem working hard for the rewards if I have to, and I expect to have to work hard since I missed the actual events. But for the rewards that are even still obtainable, its 25+ laurels each, which is kittening ridiculous. It cost me an entire month’s worth of laurels just to get the quartz and watchwork nodes, both of which will require excessive amounts of daily farming just to get a good supply going (even more so since charged quartz is used for a lot of things not just LWS1 rewards, and it requires 25 quartz which is more than can be farmed in a single day if you hit every source in the game iirc) in order to craft what I want to craft. Yet in LWS1 you could get them for free as an achievement gift. Same thing with the other rewards. We need other ways to actually work for and earn them. 25+ laurels each is an absurd price for them. It will take years to be able to afford even part of the rewards

As to the rewards issue. Well if you guys really do want better rewards then I guess you could have a few JQ be like the one in SW where you have to get to the checkpoints, the more checkpoints you go to the better rewards (probably more chests available), so that if you park there you don’t get as many rewards. But I really don’t see PvE parking as an issue in the first place so….

Scrapper will be the king of stealth capturing using Stealth Gyro

A lot of attacks cannot be blocked, and blocking doesn’t stop condi damage from hurting you. Stealth doesn’t stop condi damage from ticking either, but at least it can help prevent you from getting hit with more attacks, even unblockable ones.

Unlimited dodge Thief

in WvW

Posted by: OriOri.8724

OriOri.8724

Are you complaining about the build or are you complaining that he prevented your cap?

A thief with no damage who only dodges is not even worth noticing let alone making a post about it, but I can understand the frustration of trying to cap something for WxP and there was “a troll” preventing the cap.

Quite often the only thing I wanna do in WvW is flip camps for some easy WxP and it does get frustrating when 1 ranger wants to troll me by sitting in camp with dredge, building siege, dropping stealth traps and hiding under a yak bubble for protection.

To be fair thought its pretty broken that any class can prevent capping a camp/tower indefinitely just through dodging around, stunbreaking and cleansing any condis when they dodge. Yes you can technically break the sequence but with only 1/2 second opening any lag at all makes this very difficult to do, especially if your attacks have any sort of cast time whatsoever. I mean by themselves this is just an annoyance sure, but it really wouldn’t take more than a few minutes of dodging around before a group could come back them up and just take you out when you should have had the camp capped a while ago. That is pretty broken, even if then themselves aren’t doing much damage.

Would be terribly interesting to see their reactions if ANet updated it so that dodging works as stealth, ie it doesn’t count towards capping or allow you to prevent capping by another team.

You do realize its more balanced to have 1 BL which is harder/easier to defend than the others and give that to the Red/Green server or whatever the colors are right? What isn’t balanced is giving the server that is predicted to win the exact same BL to defend as they will automatically have an easier time defending it. If a server is predicted to win then they should by all means have a home BL that is harder to defend as it will help balance the playing field.

And even beyond that. If something is hard to defend it goes both ways. As soon as someone takes it from you, it becomes that much easier for you to get it back……

Saying we killed all 9 bosses and saying we can kill all 9 bosses every week are NOT the same thing.

Most players do no have a raid guild, its pretty unlikely most have the time or the luck to get 9 kills in 1 week due to the nature of pugs. I’d estimate most will only be able to get 4-6 average.

P.S Why would you bother thinking of it as 6 pieces, its exactly the same math divided by 6. Only reason you’d do it is because the smaller number sounds better, but means absolutely nothing because we want the SET.

You “bother” to think of it as 6 separate pieces because it is 6 separate pieces. Its not a legendary outfit, its a legendary set of armor. It it quite literally 6 different legendaries pieces that you can use at your will. Of course it should have more time gating than what a single legendary item has. That just makes sense. Gem Store Item Limit

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: OriOri.8724

OriOri.8724

Removing items is a marketing ploy that a lot of game companies do. They have it temporarily, remove it and then eventually bring it back. When it comes back the people that didn’t buy it before remember that it left pretty quickly, so they perceive it to be another limited time offer (whether it is or isn’t) and make more impulsive decisions to buy stuff because it might not come back again ever.

It sucks but it is the way it is. Personally I wish that ~90% of the cosmetic items ever on sale in the Gem Store would either be put in permanently (perhaps behind a search feature so as to not clutter it up) or be put in the store on regular rotations so that if you miss it you wouldn’t even have to wait a year to get it back (still a long time though). I don’t agree with the practice of only selling some cosmetic items for a limited time and then never bringing them back, or bringing them back for only a few days and then taking them out again.

Balancing SPvP individually——-

- This is probably the single most important change that the SPvP community needs whether you realize it or not. Not only does this make sense, but since SPvP is already isolated, not one change you make here effects the rest of the game. The way it currently works the devs expect us as players to think about the rest of the game before giving changes to a specific game type, however this way of thinking will never create good balance and the reason why is the majority of changes people suggest are obviously only made and will work for Spvp. WvW and PvE are very different in terms of balance and changes for one often conflict with the other two making the change almost meaningless to begin with.

The Lesh Prince recently developed some tech that makes skill-splitting more feasible than it was previously – you’ll see some PvP (and PvE) splits in the next balance update. It’s important to understand that changes will still need to be global, but we’ll definitely have a bit more flexibility moving forward.

Keeping parity between modes when possible is important to us – but when it’s not feasible we’ll look at splits.

edit: that clickbait though

:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

You probably aren’t at liberty to tell us until the balance patch goes live. But will this be splits in the actual skills between PvP and PvE, or splits as in Conditions/Boons have different rules in PvP and PvE to allow the skills to remain the same in both game modes but have PvP be much more balanced without nerfing the PvE experience?

OriOri.8724

At first I was thinking that 150 LI is a really big amount, 90 would make more sense.

What I didn’t take into account back then was, 150 LI is for the WHOLE armor. With PvP backpiece, you need 60 days of ranked PvP (10 weeks timegate, if you’re counting the off-season down time) to craft A SINGLE piece of equipment. While for armor you only need 3 weeks to craft A SINGLE piece of equipment.

To be honest? I’m more worried about all those Gifts the armor will require ._.

P.S. it would be interesting if they make each piece require different amount of LI. Like the chest require 50 while glove maybe only require 10. I think that could reinforce the fact that the armor may be crafted one by one.

Exactly. I think that is what a lot of other people QQing in this thread are missing too. This is for an entire armor set, 6 legendaries. Its incredibly cheap as it is to only require 150 LI. But so many people in this thread are reacting as if its 150 LI to craft 1 legendary item. It isn’t, you get 6 out of it. Regardless of whether or not you craft all 6 at once (you don’t) you still get 6 legendaries out of this deal. It shouldn’t be cheap. It shouldn’t be something you can collect the time gated materials in 1 month. Its 6 kitten legendaries, not just 1.

Honestly, the only thing that annoys me about the HoM achievements is the fact that 500 AP is gated behind them. You can keep your skins and titles, I want a way to get that AP.

And for the record, this is coming from someone who bought and played GW1 and the first 2 expansions, but I got nothing because apparently I didn’t support the game for the very specific window of time required for these rewards.

The window is still open. Go and get EotN. It’s €15. As much as 1200 gems, which is fairly cheap for that many skins and AP.
The window of time is only specific as it had a release date and did not exist since the dawn of time. It is still open and there is currently no reason to think it would close any time soon.

You’re welcome!

I certainly hope it doesn’t close any time soon either.

Suggestion: Priority for condition-clearing

in PvP

Posted by: OriOri.8724

OriOri.8724

I suggested this awhile back so I agree. Different priorities should be set from character to character so chill could be top priority on a druid but second tier on a rev or elementalist due to Riposting Shadows and Stop, Drop, and Roll while last on a daredevil due to dodge cleansing chill and cripple and a sigil that refills endurance.

I disagree. This is something that should be the same for everyone, especially because of PvP. If I see you with multiple conditions and know you have a condi cleanse ready, then unless the cleanse is not random I should know ahead of time which condi’s you will cleanse. This allows so much more potential for strategy for condi classes. For instance I would then avoid blowing any CDs that would apply more stacks of what you are about to cleanse and save them until after you use your cleanse. If I can’t predict what you will cleanse then this goes out the window and doesn’t promote thinking on my part

I like your idea, but it needs a bit of tweaking. Something like the following

Tier 1 – 7+ of any of Bleed, Torment, Poison, Burning, 15+ stacks of vulnerability

Tier 2 – Immobilize, Chill, Confusion

Tier 3 – Less than 7 stacks of any of Bleed, Torment, Poison, Burning, 10+ stacks of vulnerability

Tier 4 – Fear, Taunt, Cripple, Slow

Tier 5 – Blind, Vulnerability, Weakness

These tiers are in the order of most to least dangerous conditions imo. The conditions in Tiers 4 and 5 are truthfully mostly annoyances. Tier 1 are enough stacks of the highly damaging conditions to tear you apart in a few seconds, Tier 2 conditions can be equally deadly in their own way. Tier 3 is simply fewer stacks of Tier 1, still deadly just with so few stacks not as deadly as immobilize or chill can be.

Why were monthly achievements removed?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: OriOri.8724

OriOri.8724

Well it is disappointing that we don’t have monthly achievements anymore. I’m sure the current system is better all around, but I still don’t see exactly why we can’t have monthly achievements in the new system as well. There are plenty of scarce items that people have been requesting more access to. I don’t think it would be all that out there to bring back monthly achievements alongside the current dailies and have the rewards be stuff like Amalgamated Gemstones, more spirit shards, crafting materials. Really at the rate of getting these things once a month it wouldn’t be gamebreaking, but it would give players more access to some of these materials that can be very hard to come by.

I think the monthly achievements look more interesting than the dailies we have now, at least the PvE dailies. It would be just like the dailies now, if you want to put in the effort then good for you, you get a reward. If not then you don’t really lose out on all that much as the rewards are available through other means still. Don’t get me wrong, I love the login rewards, but at the same time I want more medium term goals in this game, and monthly achievements could be perfect for that.

why is it possible for wvwvw and pvp players to get pve skins through reward track but it’s not possible for pve players to get pvp/wvwvw skins?

You can.

1. Log in to WvW

2. Kill enough yaks/guards to get the bar to an acceptable level with 195 per tick the best. Lower levels will also work but will take longer the lower the bar is filled.

3. Idle in spawn, only leaving to kill a yak or guard once every 5 minutes or so to keep the reward bar from decaying via inactivity.

4. Run from any and all fights.

5. Repeat step 3 for roughly 6 hours or so per chest.

Congrats, you just obtained WvW track gear with no pvp while only pve’ing npcs.

That is completely irrelevant. And not only because running away from other players and afking in spawn isn’t PvE at all. You just ignored his question entirely

Why were monthly achievements removed?

I tried looking on the wiki but I didn’t see anything about why they were removed from the game. I’m also pretty sure that I heard they were removed because their rewards were moved into the daily login chests but after looking at the rewards from the monthly achievement chests, not all of them were actually transferred to daily login gifts so I think I heard wrong.

They look like they were fun achievements to do, and went a lot further than the current daily achievements to encourage players to do something they wouldn’t ordinarily do in this game. So I don’t really understand why we don’t have them anymore

Suggestion that would greatly improve QoL

@EW A couple gold per octovine event is a trivial amount compared to the 2 gold per player per day doing dailies. I doubt it impacts the economy at all.

I would be happy if we could mark them as junk somehow.

Suggestion: Transmutation Charges

Charges were always easy to get in PvP and now also easy to get in WvW so basically it is just PvE exclusive players(and do not do the PvP dailies) that are left out …

PvE exclusive players have access to charges via map completing. While it may not be as quick as a reward track, it does lead to a good many charges, and offers options to farm them relatively quickly (via city completion).

The above stated is a viable solution, Anet, but will you implement it?

I doubt it, simply because allowing an unknown number of skins unlocked per equipment piece would create a huge data overhead. While it sounds like a nice qol feature, I suspect that the purely technical limitations of data storage would make it expensive to the point of being not worth it.

Depending on how their wardrobe is programmed it could actually be trivial to keep track of what skins you have already “unlocked” with a transmutation charge for each slot. Really it could be done with a single extra bit on every skin in the game if their wardrobe is set up to handle inputs like that, a single bit for YES a transmutation charge has been used for this item already, or NO a transmutation charge has notbeen used for this item yet.

Urgently Needed

I do agree that the HoT maps need at least 1 banker, TP NPC, and crafting stations. Its ridiculous that I have to leave the region entirely to have access to those features since every other 4 map region in the game has bankers, TP, and crafting stations somewhere in it.

Fractals - Old infusions are useless...

If I have already spent so much time and money. Why should I be spending more time and money because of Anets mistake. I find that to be a bit belittling to be honest. They should have just made a recipe to change the +5 to +7 whilst keeping the stat…….

I suppose they could do that, for another 500 gold each…

It should be a simple/cheap upgrade. The price of making the initial 5/5’s are already pricey as hell.

Nope.

The solution is already in game. Anet already solved this problem with greatly increased the drop rate of +1’s, so that overall, agony infusions have massively dropped in price, thus getting (5) + 15’s, is not that hard to accomplish, they also address not needing the +16’s, as Mistlock will give you the +5 you need to max to 150, just in case you needed to have that 150 for whatever reasons.

On top of that, as others have pointed out, you don’t really need the full 150AR to run daily T4 fractals as 130 is enough, which you can get to using + 12 to + 13’s, which are very affordable.

……………………………………………………………………..
That is not a solution, buddy.

You did process that this post is about having +5 stats on top of infusions, and Anet not fixing those infusions?

It is the solution.

Anet designed the game for manufacture of higher Agony Infusions which could accommodate the use of +5’s, if you opt to not use them, that is on you, ‘buddy’ not Anet.

We paid thousands of gold for the infusions. With the new fractal infusions, there should have been a recipe to upgrade the 5/5’s. Why the hate and unreasonable thinking?

All you’ve done is suggest we pay hundreds more gold than everyone else, on top of what we have already paid.

Just stop. Buddy.

Lets see if I can sum this up for ya buddy, Anet has had the solution in game since pre-HoT, but you don’t want to use it, and you claim I’m the one being unreasonable.

You are misunderstanding the issue.
All you’ve done is suggest we pay hundreds more gold than everyone else, on top of what we have already paid.

Does that sound reasonable to you, does it?

Well, depends. I don’t find it reasonable to spend 5K on a 5/5 stat item, But, obviously you did, by your own admission, a few times over, equally so, if you have that kind of finds/time to invest so much for so little gain, it’s hard to truly understand why you are suddenly fussing about spending a little more.

That’s like saying why citizens would be unhappy about higher taxes.

The reason I bought them was so it could be the MAX gear, never having to be particularly upgraded again. It’s the highest tier you can achieve, which Anet constantly refer to as never changing, yet those with this tier of armour suddenly have to pay more to keep it or suck it up.

ANet has said that Ascended gear is the highest tier of gear you can achieve, and that they won’t be introducing new, more powerful gear. But you are mistaken by considering your infusions to be gear, they are upgrades. And ANet never said that the 5/5 infusions would always be top of the line. Just grow up and get over it. You are the one who decided to spend thousands of gold on infusions that barely affect your damage output, not other players, not ANet. You are now the one that needs to accept responsibility for your actions.

If you want to keep your 5/5 infusions no one is stopping you from doing so. Anet expanded the AR infusion system to allow you to keep your precious 5/5 infusions and still be able to reach 150 AR. They aren’t forcing you to “downgrade”. And they aren’t forcing you to keep your 5/5 either. But you are most certainly not entitled to get your infusions buffed on the sole reason that you shelled out thousands of gold for them for no real reason.

You would only have a valid complaint if it was impossible to reach 150 AR using the 5/5 infusions, or if ANet removed them from the game. But seeing as how neither of those two things happened, you deserve zero compensation.

Only if it doesn’t start counting until you can actually craft the materials, and only if it stacks to a relatively low number. There is a reason that these materials are time gated, and if this isn’t implemented correctly it would destroy that reason

Hardest map completion?

Black citadel was easy to map complete o.0

The hardest ones are hands down the HoT maps because you have to work on your masteries before you can even access parts of them
