As much as I love gliding, it has no place in WvW. It would give HoT owners a permanent advantage over people who only own the core game, which is not ok, as well as make walls absolutely trivial if a siege tower was added.
Regardless of what you think walls are for (in another thread some people seem to think they serve only to slow down enemies, other people think they are there to actually give the defenders an advantage), you shouldn’t be allowed to bypass them entirely by just gliding over them. At that point why not just take them out altogether and have the lord stand in the middle of a supply camp?
I would just go back and play gw1. Great game for lore reasons and also as a place to waste time until Anet makes good content again.
Good content is subjective. There are a lot of players that enjoy the content that we have right now, and if this is a returning player then there is all that much more content for them to do
I mean the currencies for the fulgurites are easy to come by, crystalline ore is also pretty easy to get in DS. The only “hard” part is the amalgamated gemstones, but really those are just expensive really. It sounds like a lot but its not that bad if you work towards it diligently
Its already easy enough to kill defensive siege and prevent enemies from repairing it due to the ridiculousness of the AOE spam on walls, why do you want to make it even more trivial to get through a wall?
Same here….T2 is boring. 5 of us will try to take a tower and 50000 JQ will come “steam rolling” around the corner. I realize they want to push to be in T1, but these match ups and server linking are a disaster.
6 more weeks of this sounds painful and boring. It’s just going to drive off more players the more anet lets this continue.
Honestly this has to be the most frustrating part of WvW.
As a member of FA right now I don’t even want to log in during certain points of the day.
I know that the outmanned buff will never boost the stats of the players, but it would be nice to see it boost the guards and lords at least. I wouldn’t mind watching helplessly as the JQ blob had to fight 15 legendary mobs in Bay instead of a few vets and the the lord. It wouldn’t help much, but it would slow them down a bit.
Perhaps if the zergs had to actually work for the cap by killing some tough resistance the K-trains/PvD stuff would be reduced.
No. Just because they outnumber you doesn’t mean anything really. You don’t know how many people from your server or the other server are actually playing. Plus, what happens when its just a regular group of 5-10 people trying to take the keep. Why should they have to fight “15 legendaries instead of a few vets” because their server has a blob on the other side of the map?
I don’t know why but its mildly infuriating to see you clicking on your utility skills to use them. But good job on the solo
for a few weeks now i’ve been skeptical about the validity of these polls, because it seems like things are seen positively that most wvwers i know would absolutely abhor to see in the game mode. if all players (pvers included) have access to the polls, just how valid could they be?
Jesus we just went over this with the BL vote.
A – Just because you disagree with the vote doesn’t mean everyone else is wrong and doesn’t know how to play the game
B – People on forums are a vast minority of overall players.
C – You don’t know the majority of WvW players. You might know a lot but you don’t know a majority. Just because you know 20 people who disagree with repair hammers means jack kitten. There are other players that know 20 friends that do play WvW that think repair hammers would be good for the game.
D – Have you ever, even once, stopped and considered that maybe the people who don’t play WvW as much as you do don’t do so because they don’t enjoy the current implementation of WvW in GW2???? Even if you are high and mighty enough to honestly believe that players who don’t WvW shouldn’t get a say, you can’t deny the fact that someone who would play WvW more after a poll goes in their favor deserves an equal say in the vote.
Not everyone thinks like you. As it was abundantly clear with the BL vote, the number of people on these forums who think they are the WvW gods and everyone else is stupid and doesn’t know what they are talking about are actually a minority of players. Like it or not, these opinions are in the minority as has been evidenced by multiple WvW polls now. Just because you don’t agree with the result of the Poll doesn’t make you any better than other players. We don’t need people with this kind of kitten attitude playing the game. Suck it up, the majority of other players don’t agree with you.
Hey folks,
It’s been a while since we’ve commented on leagues, so here’s a brief update.
There’s definitely room for improvement in the league system, and it’s safe to say that it’s the team’s highest priority now that we’ve signed off on everything going in for the July release. It’s still a bit early to talk about specifics, but I do think we can talk about some of the goals we have for the changes:
- Improve match quality
- Make divisions more reflective of player skill
- Make leagues feel more rewarding after you’ve placed in your appropriate division
We’re still determining the scope of the project, but I do want to be clear that it’s unlikely that these changes will be in for S4. Once we get a bit further in the dev process I’ll see if I can give an update on our thoughts/direction.
-Grouch
Since these changes will more than likely not make it to S4, does that mean you guys will implement a 5th season this year? Or are these changes to leagues something that we won’t be able to see until 2017 if they don’t make it in time for S4?
It really depends on what your class is and what you are doing. Consumables that give power won’t be much help to a condi burst class and vice versa
You can still dodge.
~EW
You can but that doesn’t change the absurdity of having a few places in the game where you literally have access to no skills yet enemies can still attack?
The part of orr you can’t enter is actually the dungeon of Arah
I know the dungeon is there, but does it really cover the entirety of what’s left of Orr? The dungeon always felt smaller than a regular Orr map, and there is much more left of Orr than what the first 3 maps reveal.
No, it doesn’t: http://guide.thatshaman.com/
Yea that’s what I thought, plenty of room for a new Orr map that can be set after Zhaitans demise.
How is this related to repair hammers?
yes you’re right… stop fighting… maybe port to spawn so you don’t die.. or just die anyway… go to channels (if you can even though you haven’t been verified and nobody seems to want to get around to doing that)… and ask, hey are you “xxx” commander? Yep that’s real good…
Sure it’s that “simple”? but it shouldn’t have to be. You call for ts engagement, you should engage the people that come in maybe? Just sayin.
Melodramatic much? Its on you to step up and enter a channel and find out if it is the right one. If you aren’t willing to do that, well there are plenty of people that mange to contribute without being in TS so again its on you.
Recently, I found myself in some water in Orr and attacked by a risen. If I were on land, or under the water, I could have done something to save myself. Trouble was, I was on the surface of the water, where our skills are disabled. That didn’t end well.
I’d like to make the suggestion for anet’s consideration, if it’s possible, that being on the surface of the water should allow us the same skills as being under water.
Or, if I’m misunderstanding the situation, is there any way to use a skill when on the water’s surface?
I agree. Orr is really bad at leaving a few spots where the water is deep enough to prevent you from standing but too shallow to dive and have skills. First time you get stuck there its pretty kitten annoying
Isn’t the mote system what is already in place for the early phases of the Legendary backpiece achievement track? IIRC you have to activate the mote and go fight Mossman at <80% rather than Bloomhunger?
You mean challenge motes? We are talking abotu adding a new mote that allows you to pick which patch
I get them way more often than I get bloodstone dust, which is extremely annoying considering much more stuff requires bloodstone dust than requires empyreal stars
The part of orr you can’t enter is actually the dungeon of Arah
I know the dungeon is there, but does it really cover the entirety of what’s left of Orr? The dungeon always felt smaller than a regular Orr map, and there is much more left of Orr than what the first 3 maps reveal.
Did you read anything that I wrote? I don’t think you did…. At all. Anyway, You wouldn’t try to put out a gas fire with more gas, would you? No, only a kitten would. Trahearne is a war general. There are always alternatives in war. After his efforts with Zhaitan, he knows what alternatives to aim for. Stop trying to defend Caithe. She deserves some punishment for her incompetence and negligence .
How is Caithe in any way responsible for that first bullet there? It wasn’t her fault, its not like she could have prevented it
Hello: She knew before almost everyone that Slyvari were originally property of Mordremoth and she let Treahearne and countless other Slyvari go straight into the battle, in his territory, without giving him any warning. It might not have stopped Mordremoth from bringing down the ships, but it could have definitely stopped him from immediately claiming weaker Slyvari, fanning the flames, reduced the causalities, and stopped the racist hatred from being planted towards them. She practically handed the Pact and her Slyvari brothers/sisters to him by not giving Treahearne this critical intel. No general worth their salt would have allowed this risk if they knew of it.
I don’t think that makes it her fault in any way. For one, what would trahearne have done? “Oh I’m sorry guys, I can’t come with you”? That wouldn’t have worked out very well at all. Mordremoth would have attacked the fleet regardless of whether sylvari were on it or not
@Urosh Uchiha.9732 – Oh noes, I spelled an imaginary word wrongs! Get over it.
She didn’t even do anything wrong except steal the egg.
Ascended gear isn’t needed, but it can help a group who is close to beating a boss. The most important part is knowing their mechanics.
People run them sometimes, but I have found that the best way to get a team is to start your own group in LFG. People will eventually join. So far I’ve had one dungeon, TA, where I had to put my group up 3 times (it kept timing out ) before people joined, but eventually they did. In the meantime I enjoy trying to see how far I can get solo. Plus fighting those elites by myself helps me improve my gameplay, or so I’d like to think at least.
Getting the achievements for dungeons should be relatively easy. But, I do think that running one enough to finish the collections will be quite difficult unless you can solo or you have a guild full of your friends who don’t mind running with you frequently.
Since we’re only getting one new fractal, we’d be up to 15 — I’m sure they’ll just reshuffle. Some, like Mai Trin, will only appear in the higher levels. Some, like Aquatic, will appear more in the lower tiers.
if they reshuffled like that then you wouldent be able to do t4 and get all the loot boxes with only 3 fractals anymore.
So I dubt that will be a think mate.I apologize, I explained it poorly. I wasn’t making a specific suggestion; I was describing why it would be easy enough for ANet to reshuffle. And of course, any reshuffling will still allow a single T4 to count for all four tiers.
Let me try this again.
In the current setup, Mai Trin is only available four times: at the top level of each tier. In contrast, right now, Aquatic is available six times, twice in tier 1 and twice in tier 2.To make room for a 15th fractal, they would, for example remove the duplicate aquatics. Thus, aquatic would always be a lower-level version for each tier (3, 26, 61, 76) — or they could change it to be consistently the first level for each tier (1, 26, 51, 76).
By just removing duplicate levels for various fractals, there’s room for 25 unique instances without changing the current structure, including the ability to get four chests for completing a single T4 instance.
Oh ok, that’s pretty much how I view it. We could easily have 25 unique fractals that fit in the current tier system.
Some are different versions though, and various duplicates are easier than others, because of instabilities at certain levels. They need to be careful they don’t muck it up.
Also, somewhat selfishly, i just need a few more to finish off adept and expert, so hope they don’t alter that lol.
I see no problem in having the “harder” path be the one used in higher tiers. Say use the first path in tiers 1 and 3 and the second path in tiers 2 and 4. Its still essentially the same fractal, just with 1 part and sometimes 1 boss different. Or we could have a mote that allowed us to pick
It decreases incoming damage by 33%. The decrease in damage relative to your toughness isn’t a linear function. After a certain point it has diminishing returns.
Unfortunately for us, we don’t get to be Kasmeer and keep our illusions around as minions after a mob dies.
Which is why mesmers have such crappy ramp up and their damage dies the moment a single mob the illusion is on dies.
I wish we could be Kasmeer, but I doubt we’ll ever be a functioning mesmer like Kasmeer is.
They won’t even fix our garbage autoattacks or make Cry of Frustration not utter garbage, what makes you think they’ll bother with larger mechanical undertakings.
In fact, they were so lazy about fixing core mesmer issues like mobility and phantasms clashing with shatter DPS, that they shoved all the fixes into the chronomancer traitline.
Kasmeer is OP mesmer. She can place portals that don’t time out. She can have her illusoins stay out after a battle finishes. She can place portals somewhere other than where she is standing as evidenced in multiple LWS2 episodes. Countess Anise is another one that can actually change your appearance. It would be so cool to be as strong as these two are.
Most NPC’s are stronger than players. I mean, Logan has permanent invuln/proj reflection and doesn’t die to falling damage, Caithe gets stealth attacks and doesn’t break stealth, Rytlock was just OP and now is even moreso… have you seen Canach’s bomb kit? The list goes on.
We’re pretty average people in the end who happened to be in the right place at the right time through most elements of the story.
That’s the thing though. According to the story we are anything but an average joe haha Right up from the tutorial your character is presented as a hero that can do stuff very few others can do.
But more to my point, its kind of annoying that these NPCs are so much better at our jobs than we are (even more so considering how weak they actually are in story missions and dungeons). To me, Kasmeer and Countess Anise just show me what a true mesmer should be able to do. As a mesmer who has finished the storyline I have now taken down two elder dragons and I still haven’t figured out how to make people look different (something that I might add should have been a fun gag skill we’ve had since the start of the game considering how mesmers were marketed), or place a portal somewhere I’m not currently standing so that I can actually use it to travel like Kasmeer does in story missions. I want to be that kitten as a mesmer, even if it is (since it most definitely should be) blocked in PvP.
I still don’t see why this is such a big issue to some players. You can use the time it takes to get your LI to gather up the rest of the materials you need.
@Moyayuki Several things
1 – “most video games don’t tend to have many “true” forests in them, for whatever reason.” – Its not “for whatever reason”. Its because these “true forests” you are talking about, with closely packed trees everywhere, are impossible to navigate in a videogame setting. How can you even fight something without AOEs if it steps 3 inches to its left and is behind a tree, again. Its also impossible to move through. And just an FYI, forests with closely packed trees aren’t true forests. Young forests are the ones with close packed trees. True, old growth forests are populated with massive trees and not much in between them, and because of their size they are pretty well spaced usually.
2 – SW and DT don’t feel like deserts. That’s fine, they aren’t a desert environment anyway.
3 – Maps aren’t open ended enough for you. Ummm have you even been in a Kryta, Maguuma Jungle, or Orr map? Just because they aren’t desert themed doesn’t change the fact that these are vast open ended maps with lots of fairly randomly placed POI in them to discover. This was your chief point when comparing WoW maps with GW2 maps.
This honestly sounds like you just wanted to complain so you picked the first thing that came to mind
Sad to hear that it doesn’t affect most boxes/bags that you obtain from events and as drops from mobs. I was really hoping that MF would help me get all the skins from those champion boxes
Hell no. What would happen is that people will pair the classes with the highest damage and lowest survivability with the classes with highest survivability and lowest damage. It wouldn’t be remotely balanced. Classes that you can’t kill that also deal far more damage than anyone else can possibly deal.
TP isn’t earning it yourself.
Aha. Herein lies the crux of the disagreement.
What many of us are saying is that farming gold and buying off the TP is equally valid as farming leather directly. Really, it’s ok. That’s how it’s meant to work.
In more detail, leather and cloth goes to everyone, even people who are not looking for it. If you are not looking for it, you sell to those who are. That is how an economy works.
Now, let’s look at buying legendaries. If I farm gold and buy one off theTP, did I earn it? Technically, yes, but I didn’t craft it, which is what people mean — so it’s not the same. People don’t mean earning leather by farming it directly. There’s no respect you get for not buying leather off the TP. So, buying leather off the TP is not equivalent to buying legendaries off the TP. (If you want to buy a legendary off the TP, go ahead, but I don’t find it much fun.)
You guys are all confused and focusing on choice words out of context. When I say earn your leather I didn’t mean did you work for it. The people who farm gold certainly did work for that gold. But they were never farming leather itself. By forcing players to farm gold and then buy leather off the TP, Anet has removed any ability to truly farm leather in this game.
You can go on and on all day about how easy it is to acquire large amounts of leather on the TP. That’s fine, I’m not gonna argue with you. But that doesn’t change the fact that there is no way in this game to farm leather. The best you can do is farm gold and buy leather. And that is not the same thing.
We have a point that we are trying to make — the insufficient ability to farm leather(*) is only a problem for a very small number of people who think farming something directly is inherently better than farming gold and then buying it off the TP from other people who got leather they don’t need.
Most of the rest of us don’t think that’s any better. What you consider a flaw, we consider a healthy economy. We can play how we want, collect resources that have value to someone else and buy the resources we need instead.
Yes, you can play how you like, but that doesn’t make it a flaw in the game.
(*) There is a leather node you can buy for the home instance, but it’s not a substantial amount of leather.
You are still confused. I never said anything about farming leather was better than buying it off the trading post. But the point still stands that ANet has not introduced a way to directly farm leather in this game. The best you can do is farm gold and buy leather. It is not the same thing. Farming a material yields that material directly. You have no way to farm leather in this game. Period. Arguing doesn’t change that fact.
Its fine as it is. And thematically it doesn’t make sense for your brand new level 1 adventurer to have exlpored all of Orr and HoT and completed all HP and hearts in central tyria just because some other character on your account already did it
The only thing I don’t like bout the system is elites taking a slot. I was hoping they would get a panel of their own.
As for traits themselves, there does need to be a new overhaul. Some trait lines for some professions are a mess (warriors), and it’s time to drop specific weapon traits and instead move on to group (instead of a trait affecting ONLY great swords, make it “slashing” and have the slashing group contain great swords, axes, etc.
I can see this helping with build diversity, since now you aren’t locked into one weapon.
Elite specs are powerful enough by taking up one of three traitlines. With having all of your original 3 traitlines and an elite spec it would be absolutely absurd.
However, a lot of players do feel shoehorned into always taking the same 2 out of 5 traitlines with their elite spec because those are the most important to simply survive. So that should be addressed by balancing the core traitlines better with each other. I don’t think we should be in a situation where 1 traitline is almost never used and another 1 is almost never gone without because one is so much more viable than the other one
I’m pretty sure that it wasn’t intended for players to hop instances to farm the chests to get gauranteed rares each time. Other metas should not be balanced around that.
Whether it was intended or not, ANet has allowed it for almost a year now with no word saying it wasn’t allowed. Can you imagine the backlash if they banned it out of nowhere? I don’t think its going away.
There’s no way to defend Caithe except by admiting she was extremely confused and choose really poorly a bunch of times. It still qualifies as negligency on her part, even if she never intended to harm anyone.
Back to Taimi, I liked the effort on the blog entry writing, but I think it doesn’t with the best dialogues from her in game. I blame her lack of sleep, but still.
I’m not trying to defend her, I don’t think she has anything that needs to be defended.
Taimi didnt “halt” anything on Scruffy. Remember, in the HoT story, she sacrificed scruffy in order to progress further into Novus.
Remember how she said she already had plans for Scruffy 2.0 right after she lost the first one? She did halt development on 2.0 in favour of her research at Rata Novus.
Now with that gate activating and she not having her golem to protect her, I hope that whatever comes through (if something comes through; it could perhaps just be a surge of ley line energy that activated it momentarily) holds no ill intent towards Taimi. She always puts a smile on my face. And for someone who does not like the Asura that’s saying something.
Taimi better not die. Easily my favorite character in the game
Or just trash their damage. Holding out versus 2 or even 3 enemies is fine if you are good enough to do it (I’m not a fan of passive bunkers either). But you shouldn’t be dealing any damage hardly and I think thats why they are considered broken. A bunker build shouldn’t be able to apply damaging conditions at all, and in my opinion they really shouldn’t be able to apply any conditions period. They are designed to survive, not to kill. You shouldn’t have classes that can do both, and do both well at that
Unless the matchmaking is improved then no I’m not looking forward to it at all.
Answering more questions:
1. Does the repair hammer work on all siege? Yes, it will work on all siege.
2. Can siege be manned while being repaired? In the current design, yes, one person can be using the siege while another person is repairing it.
3. Does it require supply? Yes, you can only use the repair hammer if you have supply.
4. How much supply will it cost to repair siege? In the current design, it costs the same amount of supply to repair siege as it does to create the siege. Example: it takes 40 supply to create an arrow cart it would also take about 40 supply to repair an arrow cart that is close to having 0 health.
5. Are there restrictions on repair hammers, for example only allowing 1 person to repair 1 siege for x period of time, etc.? In the current design there are no restrictions besides needing supply, however; if this does make it into the game on a trail basis and we receive a lot of feedback that repair hammers would be great if they only had x restrictions (and the restrictions are something we can feasibly do) restrictions could be added. Also when I say “current design” this means that those things could be subject to change.
Thanks for the clarifications
Without any restrictions on repair hammers (other than the one with golems you mentioned earlier) I don’t think they will too healthy for this game. But I’ll wait and see how it affects WvW
Sorry that happened to you OP. That raid leader was a grade A kitten. Clearly the only person who tries to res others at appropriate times is the one who makes the runs fail. Clearly /s

By just removing duplicate levels for various fractals, there’s room for 25 unique instances without changing the current structure, including the ability to get four chests for completing a single T4 instance.
Oh ok, that’s pretty much how I view it. We could easily have 25 unique fractals that fit in the current tier system.
Can anyone explain to me what exactly the Gods are currently doing? Where did they go? What did they do before they left? Have they no interest in humans/tyria? Are they scared of the dragons and in hiding? So many questions
The only Elder Dragon who’s genders is given by a reliable source is Glint calling Kralkatorrik a he. But this could easily just be a case of it being more common and natural to refer to any living being as either he or she instead of it (usually when calling a living being by pronoun without knowing gender the grammatically correct way is ‘they’).
The word “He” is technically gender neutral in some cases. So no, the word “they” would not be appropriate to refer to a single individual in this manner.

The best way to bring back LS 1 is through fractals I would say…..Who knows, maybe that is what we are going to get for the new ones. If not, fingers crossed for the next expansion
I disagree, some of the larger fights and especially the battle for LA could be a fractal. But overall LWS1 if it returns needs to return as open world instances.
How is Caithe in any way responsible for that first bullet there? It wasn’t her fault, its not like she could have prevented it

Why would Mai Trin be reshuffled at all? Its arguably the best placed fractal in that it has only 1 in each tier, whereas other fractals sometimes have 3 or 4 in a single tier. Hopefully though by the end of the year we end up with more than 1 new fractal
There are a lot of players that agree with you and would love to see LWS1 come back. And if you believe some people on the forums (I’ve never seen a direct source, just other forum members saying this), there are even some devs at ANet who want to bring back LWS1, but there are also other devs that don’t. So far no one with enough pull has wanted it for it to become a reality, but at least there’s hope that devs are trying to do this for us
My prediction:
DH gets a huge sustain buff.
Ele gets a minor sustain nerf, but DH will now be “better” for the role, so ele will disappear from relevance and people will cry that it needs a buff.Thieves will be buffed extremely (Anet always continues buffing for at least 1 patch after pulling a class from “bad” to “good enough”) and be a terror next season.
Warriors will get more minor sustain buffs that will cement them as top-dawg for bruiser-type roles.
Necros will get damage buffs, but no sustain changes that they still need to avoid focus fire.
Scrappers, druids, and chronos will get a mix of buffs and nerfs, one will be deceptively important, taking the class out of competitive usability for a while.
Revenant is a wild-card, and will get changes that people cry make them useless (the current meta build disappears), but a new build will develop that keep them about as effective as currently.
Well if ANet listened to people on forums, Scrappers, Eles, Chronos and thieves would be nerfed into the ground lol
I honestly don’t care about the balance changes for next season. I’m more interested in seeing the PvE PvP skill split. I want more personal DPS as a mesmer kitten
3. How will repair hammers work? The current design is that you will be able to purchase the repair hammer from the tricks and traps vendor. When you consume the hammer it will replace your weapon skills with 1 skill that allows you to repair any siege. If you drop the hammer or die you will need to consume another repair hammer to use the repair hammer skill.
Will supply be required? If so will it repair the siege proportional to the supply used?
Supply will be required, its mentioned on the actual poll page itself
You guys are all confused and focusing on choice words out of context. When I say earn your leather I didn’t mean did you work for it. The people who farm gold certainly did work for that gold. But they were never farming leather itself. By forcing players to farm gold and then buy leather off the TP, Anet has removed any ability to truly farm leather in this game.
Yes they have and I don’t think that’s not on purpose either. So what’s the problem here? There are plenty of games that allow players to farm mats … if that’s truly what appeals to players, they should play those games.
You are entirely correct … you can’t farm leather in the traditional sense. In fact, you can’t really farm much of anything in this game. There are good reasons for that, primarily that killing a specific mob for hours for specific rewards is a tired, shallow and lazy way to present content to gamers.
It’s obviously the intention of Anet to prevent that kind of gaming behaviour, so complaining about it is obtuse.
You can farm metal ores and wood quite easily in this game, and plants to a lesser degree. GW2 has farmable materials. But I never once complained, I was pointing out a fact that people often overlook. Farming gold != farming leather.
