Shatterer Achievements

But there are 2 achievements that require the Shatterer to be CC’d down, so there is no buffer.
In my experience it’s getting progressively harder to find a group willing to focus on CC instead of DPS. I get a single successful CC out of every 4-5 events, so eventually I’ll get the backpiece. But the final achievement (preventing kitten from ever taking off) would require something like TTS doing a coordinated Shatterer.

Your best bet would be organizing it yourself or finding the commanders about 15 min before it starts and asking nicely for them to help you. A lot of noobs will run around and do what the commanders tell them to which should be enough to get the CC down and get the achievements

The superior class for tanking would be mesmer, but the way it’s done is probably different from what you’re expecting. Instead of building up passive defenses (toughness, vitality) and completely ignoring dodges or boss mechanics, mesmers take advantage of active defenses and require very skillful play and familiarity with the particular enemy. Because of that, they’re in high demand for raids, they have unfortunately very little use outside of them though.

Most mesmers are not any good at tanking, it takes a lot more skill to do that well on a mesmer than most players I have met can pull off. If you can do it then yes you are an incredible tank. But I haven’t met many mesmers that can do it well

I’d have to disagree with this idea due to the fact that you’re missing out on a whole other perspective. I.e players who have earned these skins or have had the money to afford them feel a level of prestige amongst the community. Some skins signify ones hard work or even just basic participation in events that took place before newer players started to arrive. Please stop pushing for the idea of “everything for everyone” because that’s not how mmos should work. If I played gw2 at launch and got an exclusive skin during a one time event it means I invested time to obtain this item and would be degrading if it was just handed out to new players. It’s just a matter of loss of prestige.

This is also coming from a player who never had any fancy back wings or jet packs or horn tonics or whatever. I just belive people are entitled to exclusive skins because there is sentimental value behind them.

Some skins should remain exclusive, but not many. Andof the ones that do it should be the ones that required a significant amount of work involved. If it was easy to obtain, or if anyone could get it through shear grind then I don’t think it needs to remain exclusive. Unlike any skins earned through playing the beta weekend, these skins weren’t introduced as “legacy” skins that would show other players how long you have been playing.

And regarding LWS1 rewards in particular. They are already available for laurels. I just want a way to actually earn them in game. I want to work for them like everyone else did and I’m just not given the chance to do so

Nice.

Hopefully the changes to Arid will make it good enough it’ll be well received, and that’ll open the doors for eventually having 3 different borderlands.

Maybe even more, 4 or 5, rotating quarterly, maybe getting a 4th and a 5th 3 and 6 years in the future.

Jungle or forest with trees and undergrowth that blocks LoS along routes to objectives and slows movement, so people have to decide whether to risk the road out of need or laziness, like in real life. Oh, and better visibility out than in.

That wouldn’t go over well. The barricades in DBL were removed after people complained too much and they were only there to slow movement down. Putting that mechanic in another map won’t work if it didn’t work the first time

Is gems sale all this company cares about?

If you run the risk of destroying your game because of profits…just add a monthly subscription!

It has been 4 years of the same crap : nightcapping and 24/7 outnumbered…super stacked servers on one side and the losers on the others, those who refuse or can’t pay 2000 gems to bandwagon to the fotm server

The population on the losing server keeps decreasing and decreasing, new players join in and get faced by a mob 10x the size of his team..get steamrolled and auto..quit

Nightcapping is a majore issues, it has been so for years, the PPT system is a complete failure. You know it already, you’re aware that some servers win every matchup by capping everything in the middle of the night.

Great game potential..but horrible management..atrocious

ANet is working on big scoring changes that will reduce the impact of night capping without completely removing it as a viableway to score points. But its a major and difficult change to implement so it will take time

Any reworking of a trait that gives a Mesmer any sort of competitive viability will be met with the utmost vitriol, especially a trait that put another player completely back into play. I can already hear the hate.

Having stated that, it would be nice to have some reasonable reworking Illusion of Life to add to the support role.

That’s the truth. We could have zero dps and some people would still complain about mesmers because of portal and moa.

Anyway what Fay said was a very good point, and where I would start with the rework. Give the downed players regen for 5-8 seconds and a buff icon or possibly a warning would pop up on their screens that they will revive in 3-6 seconds (slightly before the regen ends). This gives them a warning that they are entering the fight again so that they aren’t sitting ducks and also gives them another 1 or 2 seconds of regen in case they are being hit with cleave or AOE so they don’t go down instantly again. Right now I can’t think of anything else that should be changed because I have never used the skill nor had it used on me.

Portalling between points should not even be a thing you can do.

It stuns me as to why anet still hasn’t just removed Moa and portals.

Because no game company should ever balance a primarily PvE game around PvP, that’s why. Portal and Moa shouldn’t be removed from the game.

@OP portal range is fine at 5,000 its still incredibly useful. The only change I would like to see is to have the portla exeunt icon greyed out when you are over 5,000 units away. Small change that would allow mesmers to know where is too far.

Then deny them usage in PvP.

Mesmer has some broken crap up its sleeve, and Moa is just the most disgusting and powerful abuse of that.

6 seconds every 76-90 seconds, or less than 10% of the time is it even possible for someone to be moad. Even then though they still have to hit you. Its a very powerful skill but it is not gamebreaking by any means, there are much more dangerous skills to deal with in this game than moa.

No, this defeats the purpose of legendary armor. Yes, legendary armor has access to all of the stat combos (or at least it should), while you are proposing access to only 2. But at the same time most people will never use more than 1 or 2 stat combos anyway unless they are trying out weird builds for fun. If you want stat swapping either make a new set of armor or wait for legendary armor to come out and earn it

Hello everyone,

I wanted to let you know that the mixed borderlands will be coming with Tuesday’s release! This means that the red borderlands will now always be the Desert Borderlands and blue and green borderlands will always be the Alpine Borderlands. Changing the map will require an estimated 45-90 minutes of WvW downtime around the time of the release. This change also requires us to end the match early (on the Tuesday before the release), and run a new match from Tuesday to Friday. As a reminder, that Friday is also when new world links will be happening.

How will this affect the jumping puzzle achievements for the 3 BL maps? Will the garnet one be retired then?

anet has taken a number of steps that have helped push this meta in the right direction, however there are still some clear examples of mechanics that are just outright imbalanced and should be fixed. if you have something to add, please make sure to explain why in a constructive manner.

let me start with the obvious ones:

Beserker:

  • Rousing Resilience – lack of ICD, the long duration of each proc (8s), the severity of the trait (1000 toughness, 2.5k heal), combined with warrior’s high-tier armor and access to stunbreaks makes any Beserker running this almost immune to death by power builds. Cleansing Ire does not counter condition specs like Rousing Resilience does power.
  • Arc Divider – comes out way too fast given how hard it hits and how deceptively big the range is. at least Skull Grinder’s damage is spread out over time and is single target.

Dragonhunter:

  • Symbols (S/F+Sc/Sh) – needs 10-15% damage nerfs.
  • Purification – needs rework; make the initial heal and secondary both heal for 3.25k for a total of 7.5k. make the secondary heal only go off if it actually hits a player for damage, not just on activation. I cannot stress how ridiculous it this skill is, especially with Wings of Resolve/Renewed Focus and Monk’s Focus. the fact that it essentially makes DH essentially unbeatable on point is the main source of issue with this profession.
  • Aegis access – needs reduction. DH already has a crazy amount of mitigation, and passively getting Aegis just for breathing every 2 seconds is just a spit in the face of players who have to actively expend resources to deal with it.
  • Renewed Focus – I leave this for last because if Purification gets properly nerfed this more than likely wouldnt be necessary. increase the CD. this elite in combination with DH Virtues is more or less a full reset.

Scrapper:

  • Acid Bomb – stow/swap weapon exploit prevents this from sending the user back, allowing the scrapper to freely maintain further on-point presence while getting the full benefits of the skill.
  • Final Salvo – the pulse needs to be removed. these fields linger far too long. Conquest makes this trait too rewarding.

Druid:

  • Bristleback/Smokescale – still doing way too much damage for their survivability. part of this problem comes from being able to swap pets whenever they’re in danger. Someone somehow manage to pressure Bristleback to 10% HP? just swap to Smokescale. this is horrible design.
  • General – Too much healing across the board, but it’s not nearly as bad as most make it out to be. a 15% overall nerf like Beserker saw to Adrenal Healing might do.

Herald/Chronomancer/Reaper:

  • Borderline in need of nerfs but I’m not so sure as to where, because they are relatively tame compared to the above professions.

I play Daredevil exclusively so I’m leaving that out because of bias, however I genuinely can’t think of anything on it that needs nerfing. Tempest was excluded for obvious reasons.

Lol nerf everything except thief? I agree with you though, DD definitely needs a nerf. Lets allow DD, and only DD, to cap a point while perma stealthing. And his dodges weren’t quite strong enough, now when he dodges over a downed player it stomps them automatically. That should just about make DD the most balanced class, no?

Has anyone tried taking this in a support build for PvP? I feel like it could be extremely powerful in certain situations, and not very many people would be expecting it which can potentially give your team a few seconds extra advantage.

But the cast time and CD is pretty large, so I feel like it doesn’t actually perform that well considering you wouldn’t be able to use it much. I think it could fit pretty well in a scepter/torch and staff build but I haven’t actually tried making any builds centered around support before so I could be way off.

Also I would really like to hear what you guys think on making this skill better. The cast time is huge, you would pretty much only be able to get it off in stealth if the other team was any good at all, so I think that if the cast was down to 1 sec and either the CD was down to 100 sec or the revival time was 20 sec it would be pretty perfect. I’m probably not thinking it completely through though, and it still remains as a skill that is completely useless in PvE, so if anyone could think of a way to improve it so that it could still be powerful in PvP and still useful in PvE would be awesome.

Mesmer Changes

in Mesmer

Posted by: OriOri.8724

OriOri.8724

@kybraga I say its fine as it is for now because there are bigger problems with mesmer weapons in general than GSauto. The damage needs to be buffed, but on all of our weapons. Staff auto needs its bouncing to be redone entirely, Staff 4 and 5 are on pretty long CDs for being pretty lame (imo), even though Torch just got buffed its still underpowered in general, Sword 2 does really low damage compared to similar skills on other jobs and it can be outdamaged by Sword auto under certain conditions. Sword auto needs a buff. Scepter is a decent weapon but not anywhere close to what it should be in order to give mesmers even decent dps. Focus would be in a good spot if wardens feedback were baseline. Right now its ok either way because we no longer need restorative illusions to survive due to the change to phantasmal disenchanter, but it still could use wardens feedback to be baseline, at least the reflects. Shield is a really good weapon (even though Echo of memory is apparently still bugged and doesn’t always spawn a phantasm).

I tend to prioritize the most important weapon changes needed in my mind, so when I say that GS1 is fine the way it is I meant that while it does need to be buffed, GS shouldn’t be the first weapon to focus on.

@Otto GS is our only ranged power weapon. The burst with skill 2 even relies on your starting at range so that by the time you blink over and shatter everything hits at the same time. Once that shatter lands I’ve never seen a mesmer continue to use GS if the other player isn’t downed, I’ve seen them switch to a close range weapon like the sword to finish it up. Even though the shatter relies on being next to them, I don’t think that GS was ever designed as a close range weapon for mesmers.

Deal with them by kiting or killing it fast. You don’t need to reflect all of its projectiles. At range its easy to outpace the speed at which the bristleback turns, maybe you will need a dodge. They are actually pretty easy fights

should Charged Quartz still be time gated?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: OriOri.8724

OriOri.8724

The question isn’t: is it bad that celestial stats are affected by both gating and binding? (Yes, of course it’s frustrating.) The question is: how important is it to change? How often does anyone craft it? How many people use it? How much better will their experience be if ANet changes things? And then compare that to how much effort it takes to do it well.

The thing is, Charged Quartz is not only used for celestial Sets. It’s used for 5 stat combinations (Celestial, Sinister, Trailblazer, Wanderer and Commander) and also for 6 consumables (Bountiful Sharpening Stones, Bountiful Tuning Crystals, Bountiful Maintenance Oil, Furious Sharpening Stones, Furious Tuning Crystals, Furious Maintenance Oil).
By now it’s more like a regular crafting Material then something special for only 1 Thing

Its used for

  • Celestial gear
  • Wanderers gear
  • Commanders gear
  • Sinister gear
  • Trailblazer gear
  • Superior Rune of the Defender (a rather nice heal based rune)
  • Superior Sigil of Blight
  • 6 consumables (Bountiful/Furious Tuning crystal/sharpening stone/maintenance oil)
  • Grow lamps
  • Ley line infused tools
  • Astralaria
  • Bolt
  • Nevermore
  • Kraitkin
  • And possibly more legendary weapon collections

Its used for way more than celestial gear, way more than just stat combos in general.

There is no reason that such a widely used crafting material is both time gated and untradeable. It should be tradeable at the least, and more sources of quartz crystals should be introduced to the game.

That way if you miss a day or don’t craft everyday (even though you should be crafting time gated materials as often as possible) you aren’t “behind”

The WC change was a good one intentional or not. Defending against catas in that cave was all but impossible against a superior force. Now attackers at least have to work for it.

Langor is very difficult to take when defended. There are several spots inside to defend that back wall.

It is all but impossible to defend that back wall against a superior force.

Love the feeling of getting within 10 yards of the gate inner and having 25 conditions put on you immediately. Defending needs a serious look over, the blobbing and karma train wins no matter what.

Defending does need a makeover. Right now being on the wall defending puts you at more risk than the people attacking, which is bullkitten.

Once they were laughably low. Now they are stupidly high. I’d like to see some actions taken to bring leather into a happy middle ground of these two extremes.
-Gossamer Patches: 10 t6 leather is way too much. If anything, it should be 10 Gossamer and 4 Hardened Leather

Based on their silence on the topic we can only, unfortunately, assume that ANet believes the price of leather is in a good spot right now.

I understand that some people think this is better than it being dirt cheap, but really people? There is a middle ground between dirt cheap and way too expensive relative to other materials of the same grade and tier. I don’t want leather to be dirt cheap either but I also don’t see why this means it should be the most expensive “regular” material.

The price should be addressed by Anet in my opinion. Change the recipes to use less leather (either fewer pieces of leather needed to refine it, or fewer refined pieces needed for the actual recipes but not both).

TD meta rewards needs an upgrade...

Well they can just make the Chak caches, that are made available after Gerent, provide a gauranteed rare and then nerf AB so players can only open the large chests (the ones that give a rare) once per map cycle.

I don’t think nerfing Tarir rewards is a good solution. Instead the rewards from the chak gerent event need to reflect the difficulty of the event itself. I’ve never even completed it (haven’t tried but a few times though) because only one lane has to screw up for everyone to fail the event whereas Tarir is much more forgiving in that even if 3 of the gates fail you still get rewards from the meta event. I think giving players a guaranteed rare for completing it and making it more forgiving like Tarir (so multiple lanes could fail and you could still get rewards, just not as many as if all lanes had succeeded)

Frustratingly, if you have HOT you get punished in the PVE dailies. At rollover I usually have both my HOT account and my non-HOT account logged in at the same time. For the HOT one: 4 events in DS. Well, that is a wash since I have yet to even get to the zone (if the event to get there from TD will succeed I will crash). My non-hot account? It replaces the HOT events with a low-level zone instead.

This is one reason I haven’t purchased HoT and probably won’t unless they start offering non-HoT events instead or in addition to.

Good on you. I had pre-purchased HOT so when it started doing this I did not have a choice to opt out. It is frustrating to see ‘do 4 events in dragon’s stand’ (a zone I can not even GET to) on one screen and something like ‘do 4 events in wayfarer foothills’ on the other. Oh, and before someone suggests it I have tried: you do not get credit for the other zone if you have HOT.

They have an easy solution too. Just exclude anything in the HOT zones from the daily rotation.

If you prepurchased HoT then you have only yourself to blame for still not having unlocked access to DS map. This isn’t on ANet, its purely 100% on you. Its not like you haven’t had the time

Everything beyond the simple request and non-answer of yours has been a contradiction. Such as claiming others are in denial when, clearly, you’re projecting that very reality XD

You’re still trying huh?

Condi got buffed last patch for mesmers with torch buff. The condi shatter got buffed indirectly from all the nerfs other classes got.

Some inter-department politics are probably keeping balance with fun gameplay from being achieved. If the PvP team can only advise what changes can be made to skills and if the balance team seems more PvE oriented, then they’re not going to know what sorts of changes need to be made to make PvP/WvW combat fun and rewarding for skilled play. I’m expecting better things with one of the last updates allowing skill splits between PvE/PvP skills, but I’d like that for WvW too since it’s often a place where exaggerations of builds see play. By removing amulets and runes, those are only band aids to real skill balance.

Lol what? The balance team is most definitely PvP oriented. Otherwise PvE builds wouldn’t be destroyed on a regular basis because they are too strong in PvP.

The lag since the last patch is terrible.

in Account & Technical Support

OriOri.8724

I’ve not noticed any extra lag but I do now see a very very slow initial rendering of places which is something I have not seen before in this game. It’s particularly bad in the main cities. I’m not talking a bit of flicker. When I portal to Hoelbrak my toon stands in mid-air for one second then it takes probably 5 or 6 seconds for the environment to get fully drawn. Once it is done there are no further problems or lag. It’s so slow that I can portal in and run to and enter my home instance before more than a pot plant or two have appeared (it takes a bit of practice to avoid the invisible walls!)

So something definitely changed around the time of LS3.

I’m having the same problem, but it lasts a lot longer than 5 or 6 seconds for me. I forgot I had logged out last night at the Mark II golem event, logged in today while it was going on and it took about 15 seconds before I could see the platform beneath the players feet, then another 1-2 minutes after that before I could even see the boss itself.

In fractals today I couldn’t see some attack animations until after I was hit, in Jade Maw I was killed several times by the beam attack because the effect just simply didn’t show up over my head until I was downed. Its almost unplayable for me.

If the next elite spec doesn’t give us main hand focus then I want off hand warhorn. And I want it to focus on mobility, CC, and personal damage (meaning most of our damage is from us, only a small part comes from our phantasms).

But unless the spec is way better than chrono I doubt most people will take it, because losing chrono would mean TW, Moa and MI go back to full CDs due to no more continuum shift.

I guess y’all are still in the denial stage.

Oh man, you’re still going.

de•ni•al

n.
A refusal to comply with or satisfy a request.
n.
A refusal to grant the truth of a statement or allegation; a contradiction.

According to the definition you’re two for two. You made a bold, undeniably clear statement without justification. Then when asked to back up your statement and provide evidence, provided nothing but misdirection and, at best, conjecture. Here’s the statement so we can all marvel in astonishment-

We mesmers got buffed everywhere EVEN condi. The rest of the patch does indeed help the condi build unfortunately

The stalking is getting creepy mate

He’s not stalking you. Stop attacking other people on the forums in a desperate attempt to turn the subject away from the lack of support for your arguments.

Condi mesmer was not buffed. Condi mesmer didn’t and doesn’t use torch. Other classes getting nerfed is not the same thing as mesmer getting buffed. It isn’t, so stop pretending like it is. You have yet to provide any evidence whatsoever to support your claim, none.

Resistance Equivalent to Protection

Resistance is fine as long it doesn’t last too long. Aegis for condi would be melted quicker then you realise.

Its not fine. Yes, if it acted like aegis it would melt too fast. But its still too powerful. It needs to be reigned in. It should be pulled in line with protection and just have it negate 33% of the conditions. So they would do 33% less damage, and the non damaging ones would last 33% less time.

I got the entire ESL pro league on my side bruh. You got yourself running a non meta warrior who you built to counter 1 specific build.

The entire ESL pro league?

I am trembling in fear now. All 6 of them? Really? Wow. Never seen this many data points for anything, ever.

Seriously, maybe, just maybe, an extreme outlier which also happens to be a tiny minority it not the data point you want to use to balance a game which affects 100% of the players by. Ok, sPvP, so 0,25% of the players are affected, buy you are talking about using 0,25% of the 0,25% of players to balance things by.

If you do that, near a video game, I feel sad for that game.

Profession break down on the qualifier matches what were the TOP professions used out of all the matches for EU?

Revs were top dog and druids/mesmers were 1 off.

I think that pretty much proves me right and each and everyone of you wrong. Thank you for playing…good day

Bruh, mesmers aren’t taken for their damage. I can tell you that. Just because we have useful mechanics doesn’t mean we have to have our damage be so kittening low compared to other classes

I know one of the dev’s is very fond of his Mesmer…but in the next balance patch shatter Mesmer needs reigned in.. quite a bit.

What, 60%-75% less DPS than other classes still too good? :s

Geez, way to have a personal vendetta…

I do have a Mesmer, I have played my Mesmer… Mesmer is broken. Thanks for playing.

Oh I agree. A class of such low personal DPS shouldn’t be so reliant on such a buggy and unwieldy mechanic. I mean if illusions worked like those Mesmers in the new zone who are invulnerable until their illusions are destroyed but those cause full damage and have full health (in return the Mesmer just dies in 1 hit once illusions are all down) that’d at least feel Mesmer-y.

Yea. Those are a better representation of what this class should have been.

Soloing fractals and dungeons.

If you are soloing dungeons then the most important thing is to know the dungeon extremely well. Large parts of dungeons can be skipped quite easily as a mesmer, and even easier as a chrono, due to stealth and blinks. So most important is knowing which parts you can skip. In order to skip, I would bring torch, blink, veil, mimic. For the actual fights (if you are skipping properly it should mostly be the bosses and nothing else), I would run a scepter condition build and bring shield for more survivability.

You have to keep in mind though that you will need to change your build between skipping and actually fighting. Bring the inspiration line when fighting, because the heals on shatters will save your life. Trait scepter to keep more stacks of torment and confusion up on the boss, and because when traited you have a ~2 sec block on a ~4.5 sec CD. Invaluable to solo more difficult fights IMO. As for actual traits, bring what works best with your preferred playstyle. Just load the boss up with conditions and kite them. Shatter appropriately (eg cry of frustration is of more use to heal you than to apply confusion if you are using a scepter). Other than that its just practice. Bring a tanky build. Knights gear is very good at keeping you alive but doesn’t give you any condition damage. Shaman gear doesn’t give you toughness, but gives you vitality, condition damage and healing power. So it can also keep you alive in a fight quite easily. For runes get whatever you want. I use 6 runes of nightmare because they are cheap and give you a nice condition boost, but you might get more use out of runes that help you skip parts of the dungeons.

Fractals are a different matter. Not all of them can even be soloed first off. Of the ones that can, you have to really have the mechanics down. And I would build a tanky build, again probably knights or shamans, or even something tankier like nomads if you don’t mind every fight taking forever. I would again take inspiration for the healing when shattering but the other line is up to your build depending on whether you want power or condition damage.

I think that BF does a good job of not having enemies everywhere like in the HoT maps. Its a huge improvement in my opinion. Still not at the same level as central tyria maps but its headed in the right direction

WvW commanders don’t “deserve” anything for having PvE players in their squad. If you as a commander don’t want someone that you think is a PvE player in there then just kick them. Its simple. But you don’t deserve anything from them. Period. Don’t be so entitled.

Mesmer literally 1/6th dps of other classes

You can’t buff mesmer base damage without making the already condition damage builds stronger. It would be best just to tweek the damage multiplier ratios to be inline with the meta damage wise for shatter and the weapon sets. As far as I have seen, sustain is fine and in a good spot for team play. Now mesmer needs its damage to be on par for non condition builds.

Sustain could be reduced for all classes but at its current skill-less state it is at least more balanced than any mmorpg I have played.

A – Conditions in general need a huge rework, so its not any sort of even halfway decent argument to keep our DPS so low. Besides that though, there are other classes that can output more DPS than mesmers can and still have powerful condition builds.

B – You bring up PvP yet again when everyone is talking about PvE damage for mesmers. Who the hell cares if mesmer has a “strong” condi build for PvE if by the time you rake up enough condis on the one mob to get to that point, other classes could have killed 6 or more mobs? That is still far from balanced. Yes, when a condi mesmer fully loads up a champion with their conditions, then the champion goes down pretty fast. But it takes a pretty long while to get to that point for a single PvE fight. And even then few mesmers run condi builds in PvE because there isn’t really a point.
