I imagine things like Holosmith could have a nice amount of reveal to counter, and Spellbreaker could be a natural counter.

Edit: the annoying thing is Spellbreaker could end up being a better “mesmer” than core mesmer. :/

According to the WP post show, spell breaker is basically mesmer from GW1, so yea, warriors are now better mesmers than mesmers are.

Still waiting to see hwo good mirage is though.

@Khisanth – That’s a good point I hadn’t considered. Splitting it up into 2 recipes probably does help keep from spiking the markets as much as they otherwise would if the entire cost was in the shards.

So if this spec is a DPS spec, it better be hitting close to or above 30k DPS consistently in a variety of situations. Otherwise it wouldn’t even compare to current dps specs, so it would never be taken.

While I don’t think they need a new recipe, I do think its strange to require mithril and elder wood both to craft the curio and then to also use the curio to craft the shard of ______ for whatever weapon you want. Its weird to double up on mithril/elder wood like that imo

My assumption is so that it maintains a high price for the legendaries but also a material that can easily be farmed and/or obtained naturally by playing the game.

Not quite what I meant, Khisanth got it though I think.

Why split the mithril and elder wood into 2 recipes? Why not just have 1 recipe require them in higher amounts, and remove them from the other?

As it stands now, you can bypass needing stacks and stacks of mithril and elder wood by buying teh curios off the TP, but then you turn around and still need stacks and stacks to craft the shards. Why not have the entire mithril/elder wood cost in the shards? Or have the entire mithril/elder wood cost in the curios so that you could not require any stacks of elder wood/mithril in your inventory to craft your shards? I just don’t like how its split up into 2 recipes like this.

Elder Wood Log Price

in Living World

OriOri.8724

The sword cost exactly the same amount of wood as the mace, Eureka. Also less than the hammer costs.

What made this episode’s impact so much stronger, I think, is two things

  • Two legendaries launched, not one.
  • At least one more popular than the earlier ones.

The fact that another legendary requires so much wood doesn’t answer the question of why a SWORD would take wood at all. At least a mace has a wooden haft in GW2 crafting, a sword has zero functional wood in any crafting. Maybe a bit of decorative wood on the grip. We don’t even use scabbards…

Very strange for Anet to just randomly require materials – we go from intricate story at the beginning of HoT legendaries to “no reason why we require things” at the end. It’s like “quick, we have to get these legendaries done – just throw these things in there”. Or “just use the same basic recipe as a completely different weapon”.

If you want realism in recipes you should focus on how much leather is required for armor of all weights, including metal and cloth armor. its pretty kitten ridiculous

That paired with our very disadvantageous class mechanic (relying on temporary summons to do damage) and our current position in the damage table (deadbeat last, by a mile, no actually by a galaxy) makes me not all to hopeful that within the scope of some rework we might become viable (raid or fractal damage wise).

Condi mesmer is doing 25k dps, that’s a lot closer to top tier dps than what you are describining

So, you are comparing it to literally
http://qtfy.eu/benchmarks/

Top tier dps: 33.8-36.2k small hitbox target (let’s not look at large since that would make you look even sillier).

Mesmer dps: 25.8k (against a select few bosses)

25.8/33.8 = 76.33 -> 23.67% less damage
25.8/36.2 = 71.27 -> 28.73% less damage

We do over 1 quarter less damage under IDEAL circumstances and against a very small amount of bosses. In what world is this close? No seriously, and I haven’t even compared to large hitboxes since that would actually make me cry.

Not counting the fact that we give up almost all group utility, have a terrible rampup time and could basically be replaced by a ton of better dps classes.

FYI 10% is a huge difference in a competative enviroment, 25%+ is like bringing a knife to a submachine gun fight. It’s NOT close.

Now look at dragonhunter’s 29.3k. That’s with an absolutely selfish dps-focused spec with zero utility.

Mesmer hasn’t even got its dps spec yet and it will always have the utility of portal.

I never said mesmer is doing competitive dps, I said it’s close enough that a dps spec can push it to top tier dps. The post I quoted said it was galaxy aparts from top, doing half the damage, which is absolutely false, because they were looking at chrono support dps.

Portal is not that useful inside of fights though, so I don’t know why you thought it was at all relevant.

2k gold for legendary accessory

Compared to other trinket auras 2k seems about right …

Poly-luminescent infusions are a few hundred gold. Queen Bee is 3-5k (probably drop after the excitement dies down). The newest one (aurillium) and the chak egg sac are 10k+. So, sure, by comparison, 2k isn’t a crazy amount. It’s also consistent with the cost of legendary weapons.

And this is the root of the problem. Some people equate leg trinkets to leg armor pieces. Where a full set of leg trinkets, minus the backpack, should be roughly equivalent to 1 weapon in terms of price.

Personally, considering that its “just” an aura, I agree with that view. There’s no footfalls, no effects on your arm, no changed projectiles or anything. And like you pointed out, there is precedence in this game for auras that cost just a few hundred gold.

Hammer Rev Damage Needs Nerf

OriOri.8724

Personally, I think Its pretty easy to dodge out of the way of coalescence or ruin.

The funny thing is you don’t even have to dodge it. Just strafe. Not even joking, it will miss everytime on someone strafing.

Most people that die to CoR were most likely either

1.) Already low on health, and anything would have killed them
2.) Tried to facetank the enemy, and would have been cleaved by anything
3.) Standing still.

It was once a BS skill, but post nerf it seems fairly managable.

Also note that while you could probably hit random stragglers for 12k, in practice it may be a little less due to easy tempest aoe protection, frost aura and also random rite of the great dwarf and whatever voodoo invul is around these days.

Finally, in big groups, it is not just about numbers. Sacrificing group survival for more personal dps can work, but it may also have indirect effects when your own people drop and end up rallying the people you just downed.

That being said, I guess hammer could use a rework since it is just a zerg weapon atm.

And that’s kinda the thing. It’s super easy to avoid in small-scale or 1v1 but the visual clutter from everything going on in a ZvZ with the skill having no reflect/deflect and the likes just lets it drop five people out of nowhere every four seconds.

Hammer just needs a rework in its entirety.

What are damage mitigation? Everyone playing glass thieves now?

Yes, because in a blob fight everyone is always at full health…….

CoR can hit for 10-15k quite easily. Even with protection you are still taking 7-10k damage from that attack, that’s can easily down 3 non glass characters who have been fighting and don’t have full health.

Have not tried the jumping puzzle yet, but I have done the story and map completion and I have got to say it was pretty good. I especially like how they toned down the hearts so they are much quicker to complete compared to LD and EB.

Even the final fight wasn’t that bad, it was just a ton of AoE spam. I wouldn’t mind seeing that toned down, especially his attack where it shoots out several waves of moving AoEs from him. When I was in melee range, if I didn’t see that attack coming it was an instant down every time because I would be hit by 6-10 of those attacks simultaneously, which I think is ridiculous. So maybe either reduce the number of AoEs in each wave of that attack, or add a small ICD so that you can only be hit by 1 of them every 1/4 second, to avoid instant downs like that by being hit with all of them at once.

Done S3 E6 and not hyped?

in Living World

OriOri.8724

I’m less hyped than the last few episodes. I really have no idea how this was supposed to connect to anything, and the teaser certainly didn’t help.

It was just some random scenes of things burning and a dragon that I thought was Primordus because it was all black and lava-cracked, but apparently it was Kralkatorrik (looking at it again, I can see crystals briefly before he turns all lava-y, but I wasn’t really about to rewatch something that made so little sense to me before people pointed this out)?

I don’t know how the player character even knew it was showing the Crystal Desert, but even with that information I don’t have any reason to be hyped about that. Balthazar, a weakened god who we already defeated, is running off to a barren area. I don’t know anything in the lore that would make that exciting, and I’m not aware of anything in this season that would help.

This episode finally finished the WM plot for good. Yea, we previously killed Caedecus and broke the WM, but they still had the aspects and had hope of getting their god back. Now their god is dead, and so is the WM. This tied that up pretty nicely. It also explains what Braham has been doing (though that was pretty weak imo), and confirms that 2 elder dragons are now asleep again and thus out of the picture.

As for the trailer, I agree that the first dragon scene looks like primordus. But the purple color and the pyramids give away its set in a desert theme.

  • Have the sparks stop spawning when she is downed and you are reviving her. You’d need to clear the current ones but wouldn’t have to worry about new ones.
  • Not have her spell cast reset to 0 when she goes down

Method 1 makes it easier to rez her, method 2 makes it so that her going down doesn’t mean you have to start all over on that 1 aspect.

While I see where you are coming from, I think ultimately a better solution would be to change how regeneration is applied. Priority should be given to higher regen ticks instead of longer duration regen sources. Regen on SoI could still be nerfed of course, but that wouldn’t stop problems of a similar nature from arising in the future (where classes with no HP but long regen ticks are overriding regen from classes built for HP but not necessarily boon duration).

The issue with this is that higher ticks over a shorter duration isn’t objectively better than smaller ticks over a longer duration. Just as many people would argue for either taking priority and I think that is a big part of the reason why Regeneration works the way it does.

Then change it so that whatever source will heal for more is applied instead, accounting for duration and strength of each tick. Either way, the problem is that regen stacks in a very funny way, a way that sometimes is detrimental. So that means the solution should be to change how it stacks, not to just change the duration of some sources of regen

Its people like this that keep GW2 from having a real competitive scene, and everyone knows that Anet wishes that GW2 had one. According to the leaks, Mirage is a DPS focused elite spec and we get a new Dodge mechanism – instead of dodging we blur. Take this for what it’s worth and not as official.

It’s also rumoured and I had a source confirm over a year ago it was going to be condi dps with buffing our phantasms which is probably where the strange change to iSwordsman came from. Could have changed since my source last played the alpha/beta but yeah we will see soon no doubt.

That’s not the DPS spec we need truthfully. Phantasms are still way too fragile in competitive environments.

And we need a DPS spec, bad. Right now its ok because Chrono is still the go to tank because of quickness and alacrity. But we already have Revs that can pump out high amounts of alacrity and its been rumored one of the new elite specs will be able to pump out quickness like chrono can (and truthfully there’s nothing stopping them from giving alacrity to yet another class). Which means that a class with such ridiculously low damage will lose out and the role of quickness and alacrity, and those buffs will just come from 2 party members now. If mesmer doesn’t get a DPS spec its just going to lose its spot, forever.

Hex colors are

  • Glossy Black = 1e1c1f.
  • Midnight Ice
    • cloth = 000008
    • color-leather = 0F1518
    • color-metal = 011117
  • Abyss
    • cloth = 1A181B
    • leather = 1A181B
    • metal = 0F0F0F
  • Shadow Abyss
    • cloth = 000000
    • leather = 000000
    • metal = 000000
  • Black
    • cloth = 252326
    • leather = 252326
    • metal = 252326

Shadow Abyss is objectively the darkest and black the lightest of these. Aside from that, your game settings, monitor, particular armor pieces, contrasts, and even your own eyesight affect which appears best to you.

Plus, the preview panel does a terrible job of showing off dyes; it often misses hues and such, due to the not-really-game lighting it uses.

There are a couple of websites that attempt to show off the colors better, including the wiki, but I’ve yet to find one that gives me a clear idea of what to expect.

tl;dr Glossy isn’t the same as Midnight Ice, but if you like M-Ice equally (or better), then it’s a steal at under 3g. I collect all the dyes out of obsession, not because the most expensive are necessarily better.

Few questions for my own curiosity. How do you find the hex colors of each dye in the game? And also does anyone know why some so many dyes are actually different colors on different armor weights?

Wat. Unless we get offhand axe, we’re not getting a new phantasm.

Alright Mr. Know it all

You have time to make posts like these so I want to here your take on the situation.

The leaked Mesmer weapon is the Axe and if you paid attention there are long bow using phantasm with the chronophantasma trait activated in the trailer. Another poster linked the images already.

If not two weapons or tying the phantasm to the axe like they tied the axe phantasm to the focus then what is your reasoning???

Couple options

1 – Its just a random enemy that can now use chronophantasma. I wouldn’t be surprised honestly, every LWS3 map with mesmer enemies they have gotten stronger and stronger. Its only natural that some of them would now be able to use chronophantasma as well.

2 – Axe has a phantasm (meaning we get OH axe, hopefully with MH axe……) that uses a longbow. Just like how focus has a phantasm using axes

3 – We actually end up getting 2 elite specs (which would be great)

4 – We get 2 new weapons.

I listed these in order of most to least likely

I don’t understand the issue. It’s a skin that some people covet. Why does every skin in the game need to be affordable for everyone? I like that I have to carefully consider my budget in deciding which skins I prefer; it makes my choices more important.

Price aside, right now there are 2 available for sale, while there are 974 buy offers up. That’s 2 orders of magnitude (nearly) more buy offers than there are scythes available. Clearly demand, while still fairly low, is far far higher than the available supply. Thus its not unreasonable for someone to request a new way to obtain the skin.

Well that is just simple economics for you, which tends to hold more so for limited available items.

If it was an essential item that was not available aside from a high gold/gem from the tp, then I would agree they need a way to find another way. However this is just a weapon skin (not going to kill you if you don’t have it) and if you want it you gotta pay it’s current value.

In terms of real world equivalent, say I want a 1962 Aston Martin DB4 Zagato which went for $14,300,000 usd. Would I like it, yes, will it kill me if I don’t, no. Am I going to go to Aston Martin and demand that they make another way/lowering the cost of this limited available car, again no.

Again, price was irrelevant to my comment. Sooner or later those skins will be sold, though imo they will sell for less than what they are listed at. Then you have yet another skin that is no longer available to newer players for no good reason. Anet has already introduced other older skins, I don’t see what’s so wrong with someone asking for them to introduce a new way to earn this one as well

They are rare but not completely unavailable
https://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/4g3t53/so_i_found_this/d2grweu/

I had forgotten about that. Since there is a way to still obtain the skins then I don’t really see a problem here.

It is artificial, that doesn’t mean there isn’t a reason behind it though. Though I don’t really understand where a limit of 69(or 70) came from honestly.

“its a 2 hander and they can do what ever they want”. And why exactly doesnt this apply to mainhands as well? Its their game they ca do w/e they want.

Every offhand has a phantasm skill. Putting one on a MH only weapon would leave us the option to have a single weapon set that can summon 2 different phantasms. There is no good reason to expect that to happen.
