So you guys want Gaile and the few other community employees to interrupt the devs to figure out what they can or can not tell us? What is the definition of important? Everyone thinks their thread is important or they wouldn’t have posted it. Is it number of posts? People will bump their threads to meet the post count needed. Is it number of threads related to the issue? Which thread gets posted and some.thing posted a lot aren’t things ANet plans to add, such as mounts, at least not to the degree that those who wants mounts want them.

And they do post in the contested threads on occasion.

Don’t count the number of post, but the number of posters, calculate how long and how frequently a topic regulates the top page; a couple people will only bump a topic so long before they give up, I can’t tell you how many of my threads have died that way, but something that is truely important, is resilant, and will last the corse of months (like the cantha thread that will never die). Also, a little common sense, if the topic has to do with the core game play of the game, either the mechanics or storyline, then it is important regardless of personal preference. And it is not unreasonable that devs take a couple seconds from their day to aknowledge a problem, a simple one-liner, is sufiecent, and hardly takes any time at all.

the “it’s a slap in my face mi-mi-mi-mi”-guys have no idea how a big company works…

Cutomer service requires you to talk to your customers, a healthy relationship between developers and consumers (in this case we skip a couple steps) is required for any product to succeed, and to encourage future developement and growth. If a big business does not communicate when consumers are reaching out to them, they are ultimatly failing -not just their customers- but their product itself.

If you have a problem with your cable, internet, or phone connection, you call your service provider, and they will spend hours with you over the phone. if, while at a store, you have questions, you can ask a floor associate, Iif you have problems with a transaction, you can talk to a manager. if we have a problem with a new computor, we can contact the manufacture to repair, replace, or refund. if we have a problem with gw2… we are met with silence.

I could understand they don’t respond to threads that are laced with explicit or emotion outbursts. However, there are threads out there that bring up and discusses issue in civil manners, but largely went unattended while the ‘safe’ happy-go-lucky threats get all the attentions, and certain that speaks well of priority. If every players are like the kind of people like the OP , the game will never get fixed because people like those lack the desire for quality improvement and contented with w/e thrown on the ground. While it’s good to keep a positive outlook, I would love it very much if issues will somehow magically go away just by going happy-go-lucky and praising Anets everydays.

Very true, and furthermore, most threads that do become inflamed, only become so because ANet doesn’t reply. If the plan is underaps, too amazing to be revealed without spoiling it, or if you don’t want to get our hopes up when it takes longer than you or we expected it to, or when you change your mind, or find out something just isn’t possible with the current mechanics; there are still ways to communicate with us. Even if all you say is “we are aweare of this issue, and are discussing (or working) on a solution” we wouldnt get so emotional and negative. Or sometimes, you have to be straight with us, break the bad new. Honestly, if I was ever to leave the game, it would not be because you’re overhauling personal story chapters (even though i like them the way they are), but because I was disguested that personal story would remain as this twisted crumppled trash heap, because you refused to acknowledge it is even a problem, not to mention what you plan to do with it.

As I said before, I’ll be disappointed if there’s not a food cart in the next few patches. I’d love to see it move to a random location in a new map every patch. I don’t even mind if there’s not recipes for sale, just some fun items to play with.

Bloodstone Nopale Thrasher soup: makes you vomit every few seconds (similar to too much candy).

Bloodstone Ghost Poppers: makes your character start screaming for water because it’s too hot. (ever eat something way too hot?)

Bloodstone Sunday: So good it makes you pass out.

Bloodstone Merangue Pie: perfect for throwing

That would be EPIC!!! then, after a few patches of him moving around selling terrible failures, he could succeed, and that would launch grandmaster crafting

It honestly bothers me too, that random, silly, joke and complement threads, always are answered with a chuckle, nod, a ‘thank you’ or ’you’re welcome’ from ANet employees, but important threads, about things that are broken, or could use improvement, how the game could be bettered or strengthened, are always ignored. A comment like ‘your amazing anet’ will always get a thank you, but an important matter like, “why did you permanantly erase an entire story arch from personal story?” doesn’t get a word.

It really is a slap in the face. Other players on this forum might think we are just complaining and crying, that all we do is criticize anet, but WE LOVE THIS GAME TOO!!! We think their work is amazing too, that’s why we don’t want to lose it, or see it destroyed; so its only natural or us to be upset when something we love is erased!

That’s why, please reply where it matters, on issues actually pretaining to the life of the game.

Queen ants have wings and are bigger than regular ants, and aside from its wings and size, it looked EXACTLY like a teragriff… so maybe its a queen teragriff? seems like the most obvious answer… it could also be mordremoths version of underling dragons, like Zhiatain had Tequatl, one at claw island, three kill-able ones in arah dungeon, and a dozen others in the sky. (Note, all his dragons are of the same sub species -death- and thus look the same, so it can then be assume that the dragons that follow other elder dragons are of the same sub-species and appearence.)

…but I think mordremoths dragons look more like the one that slyvari characters see in the dream just before they awaken, and consequently, like the very one that attacked the pale tree. so most likely that Iis what his dragons look like and the boss in the trailor is just a queen or evolved version of a teragriff

I’ve had another playthrough, and while the same problems are still there, Trahearne’s voice lines have been updated. So while ANet still cares about Personal Story (of course they do, just see their “improvements”), unconfusing the end chapters appears to be another large patch away.

If that’s the case, it is what we have feared then, they wont return the missing arc, but will preform a hard edit, to cleanse its existence from the remaining chapters. Well, even this is better than leaving the story as it is though… But why Anet? Why fix what isn’t broken? What we all love and enjoy? And what contributes so much to the infrastructure of the story.

I got a theory. If memory serves, people vocally complained on the forums about how Trahearne stole your character’s spotlight on the last half of the Personal Story, which I honestly do not see considering that he never joined my character and Destiny’s Edge towards the attack on Zhaitan and was just perched atop his ship on the Straits. This change was meant to address this, although I think it backfired. I may be kitteny for saying this, but if this is true, then I sincerely blame the people for voicing that out and we eventually got what we got right now.

Yeah, a lot of players did complain about personal story having weak story telling, about Anets trend of makeing characters and then killing them off before we even form an emotional connection with them, about pointless NPC deaths (when no one important dies, why does the regular joe die left and right type of thing), and how Trehearn steals our personal story… so maybe they thought it was a good solution to one, or even all of the problems. But trully, they just made matters worst. If there was a problem with story, you don’t fix it by removing a chunk, and scrambling up the rest. Well, even the scrambling isn’t AS bad as long as they go back and adjust the lines, voices, and cutscnes to match the new order, but removing content all together (my greatest fear arc), is not how you fix a problem. Who know, maybe they have a master plan that will make it a 100 times better and we will love them for it… but at least they could tell us as much

We could do something like “Fear Day in LA” where-in each of us, will write out a short storh version of one of the three greatest fear arcs and educate players by telling -or even roll playing- that story in map chat. I don’t know, a base idea we could possibly expand off of?

Another option I suppose, is sending those stories to anet in tribute to the greatest fear plotline.

Legendary Adventure

Just this though. There only part of “making” a legendary weapon that falls on the player is the Gift of Metal. The rest of the items, gifts, etc. are obtained though the mystic forge.

However, the mystic forge is actually a prison for a powerful Djinn, Zorromos. When you toss the items into the forge, you are actually presenting Zorromos with these items, and in return he grants you a special gift. (i.e. Gift of might, Gift of magic, etc). Then when you present him with these gifts, and a specific weapon he’ll trade those for a Legendary weapon.

So the mystic forge, I feel, is incorrectly named, as it’s more of a medium to exchange items with a Djinn, who as it turns out, is quite sadistic, and has a cruel sense of humor.

Ah, so he’s giving you items that you traded for, rather than you making the item yourself… still, I think, an adventure story-line could be a cool alternative, so that players could choose. And the fact that you can also get the item through the mystic forge would do nothing to diminish the power of a story based quest.

The quest idea for a precursor would be awesome, and has been discussed at length too many times to count. But yeah, do an epic quest of awesomness and glory to recieve a precursor weapon, to present to Zorromos. along with the gifts, to recieve a Legendary weapon, that he has in his possession. (being an ancient and powerful Djinn, it makes sense that he would hold on to them)

For an epic adventure to find a weapon of legend, a simple precursor doesn’t quite fit the bill. But I do like the idea of how that could possibly be worked in… what if you traded him for the key to the last instance, or the location? And depending on which gift you trade him, depends upon which weapon will be there… or something like that. Zorromos could possibly even make a personal appearance and talk to you, or use his power to telleport you.

Or precursors come from the mystic forge, right? So what if it could be used like a dowel rod to find the location of its related legendary. Or… the ideas could go on…

Legendary Adventure

To me legendary means outstanding. You will never get legendary by completing a purchase/to-do list. Instead you will have to achieve something unbelievable no one else could manage, rewared with a unique weapon bound by your soul, telling YOUR story.

If that was the case, any old weapon would do. A hero who makes himself a legend by preforming great deeds, his weapon WOULD become a legendary weapon for the generations that follow, but while he has it in his hands, when he first obtains it, its just a sword, not a legend, no matter how powerful, or what he will eventually do with it. If I chose to forge my legend with Belinda’s Great-sword, that would become my legendary sword. But in the context of the game, a weapon, that is already a legend even before your receive it, that requires history.

Furthermore, YOUR journey to learn of, uncover the location of, obtain, and escape with the legendary weapon, would be YOUR story.

Legendary Adventure

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

OtakuModeEngage.8679

From the very first that I’ve learned of Legendary Weapons, and how they were forged, a crease has arisen to my brow. That they are -forged- in the first place, is a clear inclination, that they have been greatly wronged, for by definition of the word ‘legend’, they cannot be crafted, no matter the means. No, a legendary weapon, by its nature, is a powerful weapon, used by a great hero of ages past, to preform world altering deeds, and thus, become a legend. And this cannot be possible if it is so named (legendary) the very moment you complete its construction, the very moment you tie off the the hit’s new silk wrap, after having spent hours hammering it against the anvil, so to speak.

Don’t get me wrong, I believe they -must- be hard to obtain, but it is with the means that I find fault. They should be EARNED, not bought by a player with more money then they know how to spend, or crafted after endless grueling hours of farming and grinding away until your soul melts, your eyes fall out, and your fingers are mashed into a twisted crumpled heap.

Rather, there could be a mega achievement, requiring you to fulfill certain conditions, such as: Dungeon Master, World Map Completion, Personal Story Completion, and whatever else you feel should be thrown in; that, upon completion, would unlock a special legendary story-line.

This story-line would have an India Jones theme, of adventure, mystery, history, and action, in which old lore, current lore, and new lore, could be touched up on and expanded, told through a mixture of challenging Story Instances and Open World Events, that culminate in a final instance, or even a dungeon, where-in the Legendary Weapon has been hidden and protected, requiring you to pass a number of enemies (possibly, Forsaken, White Mantel, and/or Mursatt) and traps, to get to, and escape with, the legendary weapon.

Upon completing this final instance/dungeon, the Legendary Weapon that was successfully retrieved (you could even make it possible to fail) would then be the property of the instance owner (only earned once per character, on the first time that character completes the final instance/dungeon, and requiring each character to fulfill the prerequisite requirements and story steps.)

That, would be a epic adventure worthy of a legendary; giving the weapon depth, history, and prestige.

How can they talk about adding content when they’ve screwed up existing content?

I can’t agree more, this topic has been discussed so long, I don’t know what to say anymore, but something needs to be done, because as it is not, there are:

1. plot holes (an entire arch missing, the the rest of the story builds off of and refers back to, my greatest fear show’s the build up of the pact, and explains why and how fort trinity was attacked, then after the attack, brings closure to the event.)

2. characters that no longer exist (these characters we built attachments to, have fond memories of, they shaped and effected the events of the world around us, and their references, both storywise, as well as weapons and armor attributed to them, remain even now that they no longer exist; this doesnt make sense!)

3. adventures that can no longer be experienced (players are always demanding for more content, not less; you cant take away adventures we love and enjoy, especially when they contribute so much to plot and character developement)

4. A great loss of character developement (the greatest fear plotline showed we weren’t perfect and could fail, it pointed out our faults and made us face our weaknesses, and made us become stronger)

5. new players sacraficed (you are presenting players new to the game with a confusing story that is out of order, constantly contradicts itself, doesn’t make sense, and is missing key plot lines they will never have the chance to experience and enjoy. Out of everyone, I cry the most for them; this is not a good way to expand the player base.)

6. roll players turned away (yes, I don’t do it myself -not anymore- but there are players whose core joy in this game, is to build themselves into characters that live in this world, that have experienced it, and live it every day)

7. events thrown out of order and made confusing (we meet people after they die, know them before they are introduced, preform cleasing rituals before we even secure a path to the location needing to be cleansed. You can’t throw your socks in the dryer and then put them in the washer! there has to be a proper order to things and the story must naturally and realisticly flow from one event to the next, and it doesn’t anymore!!!)

8. realism cut away by over simplifying the story (we cleanse orr, without being disturbed by zhaitans troops? Of course the elder dragon is going to get in our way, and delay us. taking care of one issue and then the other, lacks the complexity and constant multi tasking nature of real life.)

9. New content developed at the expense of old content, trashed or completely disposed (it would be like crashing a ship into an iceburge, and then trying to build a skyscraper on it while it sinks!)

10. and the bigest problem of all, is Anet won’t even aknowledge this as a problem, and give us their stand on the matter!!!

Yes, ANet, I know you don’t have the time or people to respond to every matter, and so must chose the greater concerns… but this thread has survived the course of 2 months, constantly bouncing back, and retaining its place on the front page, it has many players crying out for help, dozens of post, and 8 pages now… I think its sufiencet to say this is no small matter, but something of large importance to a great deal of players, so please, REPLY!

The amount of positivity for this patch

OtakuModeEngage.8679

I honestly, loved this patch, it touched up on a lot of player’s fond memories of GW1 and enlightened those who did not have the chance to experience it for themselves, expanded what we know of the people and world of GW, connecting the past to the present and deepening relationships, giving this episode a depth Anet’s story telling often lacks. This truly shows me they are becoming better writers… and yet, I couldn’t fully enjoy this patch with what they did to personal story. As epic as this content may be, a beautiful building built upon a desolate wasteland, loses all its attractiveness.

Why? Personal story is character locked, and Living Story is the continuation of personal story… so it only makes sense to do the same with Living Story. Each character has to earn and progress their own story, its always been that way with GW, and always should be.

In addition, there is a bonus reward for completing an episode for the first time on each character, and that could only be earned once if it were account bound instead, so no thanks. I want to collect all variations of the armor.

What about having guild merchants and guild bank available in the guild hall, but leaving other conveniences in the main cities? That would make sense, and encourage usage of both facilities.

The rebuilding of Lion's Arch

in Living World

Posted by: OtakuModeEngage.8679

OtakuModeEngage.8679

I agree, that Lions Arch should not be rebuilt too quickly, because that would destroy the gravity and critical impact of the situation, also factors such as supplies, funds, workers, and tools must be taken into consideration, and with that being said, the process should take months… however, the progress is too slow, unrealistically so. Since LA was destroyed and retaken, 8 releases, a total of two months, have passed, and still, it looks as it did when scarlet left it.

I’m not asking for it to be almost complete, but signs of progress and construction should be evident; a mixture of scafolding and tools could be present around wreckage, to either repair or salvage; a giant crane could be under construction near the docks to remove the drill bits from old LA, in an effort to preserve their history; and demolition tools, emplosion bombs and such could be placed in the collapsed arch ways that now block the main city roads. They could even use bits from scarlets drill to rebuild their city as they had previously done with their ships, the citizens of LA appear to be the type to make use of anything and let nothing go to wast.

But to log on after an update to see that the most that has changed, is that there is one less stone in a pile of rubble, or to see that the two wooden bridges/gateways that connect the walls of fort marriner -a simple construct, that should have taken no more than a week to build- are, after a month, still being errected?! That is wayy too slow. they may still be weilding sword, but their mixture of asuran, clockwork, plant, and charr technology, should rival that of our own. I would say that because of their ability to use magic, they have progressed in a different line of technological and scientific advancements than our own, but comparitivly, they appear to live in a somewhat modernized age. so this progress is unaccepatble, unrealistic.

They have even introduced an airship trip to Orr instead of smooth transition we had beforehand. I fail to see how this could be done by accident.

To clarify this matter, ANet did post prior to reoranging chapter 7 and 8, that they would do so; so that part is confirmed intentional. They never stated however, that they would completely remove the ‘my greatest fear’ plotline, nor have they confirmed that it was intentional since doing so. You asked for advice of how much to say, so that you don’t get our hopes up when you change your mind, or when developement takes longer than you expected, or we, would have liked, or how to reveal future plans without spoiling your great conent. Well here is a suggestion I put on a thread that is very important to me, I hope it helps you see how you can answer without giving too much away or ignoring us all together, and prehaps even, take a visit to that thread and give us the light in the darkness we’ve been praying for.

—redirected from “My Greatest Fear Plotline” thread—
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/My-Greatest-Fear-Plotline/page/7#post4517102
Honestly my favorite answer would be, “we are going to revert the story back to how it used to be,” or even “while the Orr chapters will remain in their new order(because we think that’s better), we will return the ‘my greatest fear’ plotline, and patch the orr chapters to remove the inconsitances and help the new order flow better,” which is not the answer I want to hear, but is acceptable. Even stating my greatest fear, which is that the “‘my greatest fear’ plotline will NOT return”, is better than nothing, at least then we know its removal was planned and not a bug, at least then we know your stand on the issue. You can even add that “Our decision may change”, or “a fix may take a while”, so that we do not get our hopes up when it takes a long time to come, or is cancealed all together. Even such statements as, “we need to gauge more customers oppions on the matter before we decide”, or “we are uncertain, but are talking about what to do with this matter” would applease our concerns, if not amend them. Just talk to us, that’s all we ask. Give this matter the proper attension it demands, our concerns the proper respect.
—end quote—

Honesly, your silence on the matter is sturring a lack of faith in ANet, which is what causes the whole ‘ill stop buying gems,’ and ‘ill stop playing’ triads, its also what causes our post to become increasingly rude and heated.
The time players spend with Lionguard Apatia is brief, but it’s clear from the existence of this thread that people still did manage to care about these characters. We did not silently sit by as this plot was removed (whether or not the removal was intentional).

The loss of Apatia or the others is a part of the lves and stories of our characters. It is one of if not the only mistake our characters are able to make in the story. Without ever making mistakes, our characters are flat and not believable.

That’s not even mentioning that the fact that everything is out of order, and that the removal of Greatest Fear is a big part of that. That makes the story incomprehensible as well as not believable.
Oh no, I completely agree, and have said as much myself. I was simply posting what might have been their reasoning for making this choice. Though, even if that was there reason, the way it was handled was unacceptable. If it truly was a problem to be fixed with the story, one doesn’t acomplish that by simply gutting it.

I really feel like this thread is a prime example of how saying even just a little would temper our expectations. If we were told “Greatest Fear isn’t coming back because it was too sad/because we had to mirror China/because it was too confusing(lol)” then we’d be upset but eventually we’d put on our sunglasses and “deal with it” I guess.

Right now the story doesn’t make it clear that that’s your intention though, and it’s really confusing…

Everyone in this thread is speculating and guessing and hoping that this is on your radar, that you are aware of it, and that the Greatest Fear removal is one of the “Plot holes and story inconsistencies that may have been introduced with story realignment” you mentioned here: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Changes-Coming-to-the-NPE/first

If your thinking is that “it is obvious” whether or not this is included in that, then please humor us by letting us know which, because we can’t tell anymore.

And if you’re not sure what to do about it, let us know that it’s a really tough issue for you guys and that you’re not sure how best to proceed. I have to say that I think the suggestions other users in this thread have been excellent ideas though and might be a great place to start. I’m a fan of adding as many Level 80 chapters as you need to the end of the story myself. It shows that the game doesn’t end at level 80, rather that level 80 is just the beginning of your character’s epic struggle and journey.

I really love Guild Wars 2. I said it at the start of this thread and have maintained faith and loyalty to you guys throughout. I cannot believe as some users suggest that this is the end, but the silence makes it so disheartening and makes it harder and harder to think anything else other than that…

…please consider revising your policy of silence (in general). It does well against the “omg broken promises” crowd (which could also be solved by a simple blanket disclaimer) but does more harm than good toward reasonable fans like the ones in this thread.

Thank you,
A concerned fan

Even such statements as, “we need to gauge more customers oppions on the matter before we decide”, or “we are uncertain, but are talking about what to do with this matter” would applease our concerns, if not amend them. Just talk to us, that’s all we ask. Give this matter the proper attension it demands, our concerns the proper respect.

Will "greatest fear" return soon? At all?

I was really excited about the Living Story improvements and where it was heading, but now I wont be able enjoy it. It is great that they are adding to the story-line, but not at the expense of the existing story plot; its like trying to build a house on quicksand, no matter how many levels you construct, they will all continue to sink. Foundations are everything, and they just ripped theirs from right under their own feet.

I think this is the result of players complaining that ANet has a habbit of introducing new characters, and then killing them off instantly, before we’ve even had time to forge an emotional bond that truly forces us to morn their loss. But erasing characters, deleting memorises, and stealing adventures, is not the solution to this problem. Rework it if you must, change, lengthen, or even add new instances, to forge that connection that they have been lacking, to right whatever is wrong with them; but you should NEVER trash permanant story content, as if it were yesterdays fodder to be fed to the furnace, especially not when it drives so much of the storyline and character development, when it touches so man players. You have made a critical mistake, so please, at least converse with us on this issue.

The plot of chapters 7 and 8 remain mixed up. You get references to events that no longer happened, reunions with people you haven’t met, revelations to mysteries that haven’t been introduced.

This NEEDS to be fixed.

Shouldn’t there be a warning in the patch notes: if you are doing this arc your progress will be wiped out

If you were on the storyline pre-patch, you’ll still be on it post-patch. (Thought it might not be visible until you reach L70, since it’s in Chapter 7.)

PLEASE RESPOND PEROPERLY, no of-topic snark about having warned us, ADRESS THE ISSUE AT ITS CORE!!!! State whether ‘my greatest fear’- which is the topic of this thread- was removed intentionally or was a glitch, and make your stance on this matter clear to us! I am sick of how you constantly evade issues that are important to us.

On another, slightly off topic, but extremely important note, spliting chapter 7 and 8 between, cleasing orr and fighting zhaitain, does nothing to improve the story. in life, there are many things we do at the same time, we do not study for a text for months and ignore all else, we cannot, one must take breaks to socialize and have fun for their owne mentle health to relieve stress and relax; and one cannot neglect their family or their duties about the house, and one must do their job, and earn the pitence required to survive in this money based world. Mutli-tasking, taking breaks, and switching gears, is a constant part of life, and one cannot always simply finish one thing before moving on to the next, life is not so simple. The previous personal story line did well to replicate the complexity of life, that yes, orr needs to be cleansed, and zhaitain needs to be defeated, but one can’t simply stroll in, and cleanse orr while ignoring zhaitan. It has always been a told-fold goal, you must do a bit of one to acomplish the other. What happened to the adventure, to the romance?! One must fight their way into orr, and secure it before they can go about cleansing it; one must cleans orr, before they can truly put the dragon that feeds upon that corruption to death. And the chance of completing one objective from the start, without being troubled and delayed by the second, is unlikely, unrealistic at best.

I just did personal story today for the first time since the update that changed it, and I have to say I am NOT happy.

The ‘my greatest fear’ plotline was an integeral part of your characters growth, showing their weakness, faults, and ability to rise above them, and become stronger. This plot line showed that our characters weren’t perfect and could fail, it was truly one of the few personal story plot lines that actually showed growth and developement. It also broadened the horrizons of gw2’s world and characters, giving a vital look at the pact’s rocky start, the long and difficult process of getting such a big caotic organization on its feet, and expanded our adventures and stories. It also provided the backstory for the orb, and the treaterous insurgents, that is an integeral part of defending Fort Trinity, and following that sucessful defense, wrapped up the insurgent breach by taking out the mesmer behind it, brining closure that no longer exist. That regardless of which fear you chose, both consequence occured (the mesmer Iinsurgence and the orb) deepened between the lines, that there were other commanders, friends alts and guild mates(as i like to view them) who had to have been playing the alternative story line for it to merge at this point, thus meshing the concepts of rpg and mmo together in a more compact form.

And finally, removing this section makes the story confusing to new players, and hollow to old. Why does the pale tree inquire as to your greatest fear, if nothing is to come of it? Why does trahearn mention Tonn, and our failure to save him, when we no longer get the chance to do so, when virtually, he no longer exists?! Personal story was always far from the greatest writing in the world, but at least it had made sense, and flowed in a compact liner plot line (which cleansing orr before even managing to capture it fails to do), at least there were touching moments, and a collection of instances to expand our adventures and bring depth and life to the world of tryia and its people. By what you done, you incinerated half of your plot and trashed the other, and it is in no way an improvement.

As an avid reader and aspiring writer, as a player whose favorite part of any game is the story, and who has spent hundreds in gems supporting the developement of GW2, you have really let me down.

So~ has anyone actually noticed anything change between patches? I mean, I don’t expect to log on with the next update and find a gleaming city of Tar Valon, but each update should have something! A dismantled fragment of the drill, or at least scaffolding around one to show that it is indeed in progress, a single building repaired or more evidence of repair in work than a simple human with a hammer mucking about. I know there have been changes, but they are so minute they have passed me by. Aside from asking Anet to pick up the pace so that the progress appears more feasible, can anyone form a list of what has been altered with each update?

Please Stop Destroying Everything

OtakuModeEngage.8679

Just a question here because I am curious. The idea of the Living World is that there is a storyline that you take part in, that you are involved in events that shape Tyria in permanent ways—how would you all convey the sense of progression and change without also making changes to the landscape? I see a couple of comments regarding creating things, not simply destroying. Do you all have any other ideas?

Destruction such as LS has wrought thus far upon Trya would be acceptable if it had a palpable impact that influences and shapes the world around it. Every action has a reaction, and any good story teller knows that if an event does not impact the story in some way, it should be cut.

Sure, you have the tower destroyed, its wreckage and poison leaving Kessex Hills a wasteland, but to what ends?
~Is the territory too intolerable, insufferable to continue living in?
If so, why haven’t the villagers pulled back, abandoning their towns and homesteads and withdrawing into safer territory?

~Can the lake be cleansed of poison; the tower’s wreckage dismantled or salvaged?
If so, there could be events requiring you to escort a detoxification team to key points in the lake where the seed of blight is its strongest, a quest in which we must carry an implosion bomb to key tower fragments, or even a simple scenery change with no player involvement what so ever, such as scaffolding erected around the debris to salvage its raw materials and remake the village anew.

~Perhaps a tighter guard and redoubled fortifications are required to deal with the Toxic Alliances continued presence?
Seraph patrols could be spotted along the main roads, or even, with the loss of fort Salma, the tower’s debris could be harnessed to build a new island fortress.

Granted, I’m not expecting this all to happen at once, the dismantling could progress over the course of five patches, and the rebuilding another five… taking the whole of five months… but still, something should be happening. A major world event such as this would not be without consequences, and yet we see… nothing; Kessex is just as we left it months ago.

MMO- litterally, massive multi-player online; this says nothing about the story, doesn’t claim that the player is not the main character in the slightlest, all it means, is that its a game you play online with thousands of others. You may feel, that because you are playing with thousands of others, that that makes you unimportant or in somewhat devalueates your part, but that is simply your interpretation, and not what the genre means in the slightest.

RPG- literally, role playing game; this means you take an active role in the story, you are -if prehaps not the main character- still part of the main cast. Your actions effect the story and the world around you, if you drop a stone in a well, it causes ripples. And no matter how you look at it, a main cast cannot span over thousands of different characters.

Combained the two, and that is the game we are playing, an MMORPG in which your character plays a vital role as one of the lead protagonist.

Actually, there are numerous differences, starting with your very first point:
~this dragon does not currupt every living thing, only things in nature, or more specifically, only thinks that grow with vines, roots, branches and stems… that being said it can corrupt a slyvair hound but not its counterpart, the flesh and blood wolf. With beings of flesh and blood itdoes not corrupt, only kill, and quite possibly devour the energy/nutrients of… this make mordremoth greatly different from any other dragon.

Really ?????

The issue here is that A-Net is really uncreative when making all Dragons the same.
Now we pick apart what kind of life forms are actually corrupted by the Dragons to make them different ???

I couldn’t care less one dragon is raising dead people, the other one just plants or the other one turns people into crystal zombies……….. really

They are all the same so far and that is the issue.
Of course having the same story like Zaithan is not helping either.

The faction leader are well aware of the thread but have better things to do than joining a conference on what to do ?? Really …..
Exactly like Zaithan

By nature dragons currupt… that’s the premises of the story… I don’t know how you expect them to change that. What defines each dragon is the nature of their curruption, what they currupt: zhiatan currupts dead bodies, and the crystal dragon currupts living, the fire dragon doesn’t currupt at all, its had its army of destroyer minions from the begining, and mordremoth only currupts plants; and how they currupt: sons of savanior are drawn by greed and promises of power, men and women consumed by fear are chased down and slaughtered, until they rise up to be fears host. That being said each dragon uses a different element of magic, corrupts in a different manor, and targets a select group.

As for the storyline being the same… it is not. For we did not gather the worlds leaders to fight zhiantan, we mustered Tryia’s three orders, the vigil, priory, and whispers, which is only 3 of the world’s armies out of a possible 10 (5 nations armies, 3 orders, tengu, and ebon vanguard), but never the worlds leaders. Yes at the begining of personal story we did conflict with our own nations personal issues, but they remained unresolved, the humans never defeated the centuer or the white mantal disguised as bandaits, and minister claudicus still reigns power even if he is currently the queens house guest; the flame legion still is a thorn in the charrs backside, and the crystal dragon currupts ever still. just because we move on to biger things, do not mean these issues dissapear, and I am quite glad to have a chance to come back and conclude them if we may.

or my favorite of all “I should be able to do all the content regardless of skill level!”

That’s the only point I cant agree with; I don’t believe there should be any gated content… a harder version with better rewards, titles, and achievements, yes; but content only hardcore players can play, no.

Content should be for everyone, rewards and achievements… they should be earned.

So I guess we should make Arah, Liadri, etc. easier so all players can play them?

I would say yes on liadri because you have to solo her… I feel like, rather than having to fight your way up to her, and thus creating gated content for those who aren’t skilled enough to do so. It should instead be set up like fractals, where you can fight all bosses at various levels of difficulty, with the hardest having achievements, rewards, and titles. That way it is still rewarding and challenging, gives players initionative to work their way up, the various levels teach them and help them become stronger players, and the easy level makes it so that no content is gated and everyone can experience the battle.

As for Arah… its all a matter of team work and group composition, even a newbie can suceed if he goes in with weathered veterns… or a group of average casual players who work well together can struggle through it and manage to defeat it eventually. I wouldn’t call myself a hardcore or casual player, probably somwhere in between, but I’ve been on Arah runs where it was as easy as cutting a pie, and runs where by the end, only one member remains from the original team composition… but for all its difficulty, Arah is something everyone can beat, if only through the good grace of others.

Rytlock didn’t expect his actions in the tomb to break the entire curse. His sole purpose of going into the tomb was to test his theory about the sword, before attempting to break the curse at its source.

While that would certainly make sense, it was never stated or implied. By his actions and words, he was intent upon ending the curse then and there, and I truly believe he was trying to do so.

Yes it is. He flat out tells you that is why he’s going into the Tomb first.

Yeah check the dialogue. He says hes just testing it out on the ghosts in the Barradin vault.

My bad, prehaps I missed that… in which case he actually succeeded, as it proved to have favorable results. Still, my hypothesis remains unalterd; that, for the ritual to succeed, it must be preformed at the foefire’s heart.

Are you sure he really failed? This could lead up to some other part of the game that hasn’t been released yet. We could have another Rytlocke’s Challenge, except now he’s in the underworld.

I also feel that the Flame Legion could be involved. I really don’t see any resemblance to Rytlocke at all in that screenshot where it shows a flamey charr. The reason I think the Flame Legion could be involved is because they probably rely on the Ghosts of Ascalon to put continuous pressure on the Black Citadel. If the ghosts are forever gone, then Smodur can levy a huge chunk of pressure onto the Flame Legion themselves. They would have every reason to involve themselves and thwart that plan.

I mean we can all speculate, but let’s be honest here. I don’t think he failed anything. He just may not have accounted for all the probabilities that could happen. When asked he says "It’ll work because I say so… " Well, it’s not hard to establish that Rytlocke can be full of himself.

I’m not saying this is what’s going to happen, only that it exists in the realm of plausibility. Unlike lots of other folks who are just trying to tell how it is like they got inside information on it.

…his intention in the ceremony was to completely end the curse on all ghost, yet he failed to do so, managing only to remove some when he meant to banish all; I’m not saying he didn’t do a good thing, but he certainly failed at destroying the curse.

^^ that’s the thing, anyone can do fractals, its not gated, the content is the same regardless of the difficulty level so that all players can partake… however, it does get harder, each level is more difficult, more challenging… that same content, but it allows gw2 to appease casual and hard core players alike, because it is not gated in a sense that if you are not skilled enough you don’t get to do it period, but rather, those of each skill level have a place to fall in and do the same content, but feel challenged if they wish. you also spoke of learning… well, I feel that the progressive levels of fractals do just that, forcing you to get better each time if you wish to pass the next level.

I’d like for Open world content to be like the Dry top stuff

that worked really well
as far as story related developments go.. I would much prefer it instanced
we are supposed to be the Hero after all..
as far as personal lore goes we are the only player character in the game..
it does break that illusion having open world content like that and it’s even worse when people simply use the new content to farm loot bags >.<

Not necessarily, the event in question was programmed so that we were working along side members of the vigil; in which case, all of the other player characters present can be presented as grunt soldiers within the vigil ranks, and thus do not inherently break immersion. The only issue here is the fact that we were supposed to do it all alone, and I don’t know about you, but being backed by a large vigil army, sounds like cheating to me.

So open world events can fit into the story, its just a matter of when its appropriate to do so.

Prediction: Why Rytlock Failed

in Living World

Posted by: OtakuModeEngage.8679

OtakuModeEngage.8679

Arriving at the instance, I knew Rytlock’s ritual would fail from the start, the simple reason being, that while Duke Baradin’s Manor was an important cultural site from GW1 and thus a powerful spiritual site for ghost; it simply was not were the curse began, as such, does not hold the heart of the curse, and thus, is not where the curse can be reversed. In a similar fashion, Orr’s corruption could only be ended or, purified, at its source. So if we stay true to the lore, the natural rules that bind the order in which the world of Tryia functions, demands that this too, must be accomplished to rid old Ascolan of its ghost.

That means that why this ceremony is not inherently wrong, it was simply a matter of where it was cast. King Adalburn’s sword struck the location now known as the Foefire’s Heart, so named, quite literally, because it is the heart of the Foefire, with the Foefire being the curse. It is therefore only natural that this too, is where the curse should be reversed. Why this was not apparent to Rytlock is beyond me, but I predict when it tries again, it will be there -or perhaps, the mist parallel of the same location- that he strikes. And it shale be there that he succeeds.

I really cant comment it if some people say that this fight is difficult , they should insta leave gaming and go read books . Really you can stand in melee range of that statue and just 11111 , stand a bit on the left or right and his hammer aoe wont hit you , ghosts wont agro on you, you have to only dodge this orb and and and !!!! there is map notification, event notification that mender spawned , just leap to him use all skills on gs and come back to 111111 statue . is it really that hard ? maybe if you are using some crap build like nomand or other crap like that you will have problems on pve , bacause this game mode is based on dps . anyway i hope that way day we will see really hard pve content ,dungs, raids for exp ppl who have to coop not just stand in the corner and full dps to melt boss in 4 sec !!! yh such a skillfull content which can be done in pug group which was found in 5 sec (sweet jesus dung with liadri as boss) . but lets be serious noobs like that brings more $$ to the game thats why devs dont develop pvp or www , they created too nobish community which is affraid of death, pain and challenge , just look eotm 99% who are running to their cmd from base are shocked that they can be killed by roamer

Incompetence and inability to utilize abilities to their fullest potiential is the fault of the player, not game mechanics. If you want to merely auto-spam 1 while you let your brain go to sleep, certainly that is an option. However that is far from the most effective, or prefered -I should hope- meathod.

Is that so? I gave viable, pliable uses for each skill. Maybe they are not nessicary for you, chosing to let stat combinations play the game for you, but a lessor, or newer player, who may not have the skills or resources, could use them to strategize a far more effective and player active routine. At the very least I’d rather feel involved by dancing between skills rather than hitting 1 and just sitting there… really isn’t a hard choice to be honest.

The numbers (roughly) of 600, 1000, 1400, 1800, 2400, 2800, 3200, 3800, 4200, and 4600 that appear are not the damage for each of the hits, but the sum of the damage. The total damage done by rapid fire in this video is ~4200, not ~21000+. It is not doing as much damage as you seem to think it is doing, and not a whole lot more than the auto-attack of spamming 1. The min-maxers would have the actual numbers, but I am pretty sure that a ranger spamming 1 with a sword does more damage than rapid fire even if it had no cooldown.

So prehaps it only deals a total of ~4200 damage, but does bow skill 1 deal the same amount of damage -or more- in the same amount of time it takes bow skill 2 to complete its rapid fire? Because if not, then bow skill number 2 still does more damage faster, and my point -for that weapon at the least- remains valid none-the-less.
For the particular battle discussed in this thread the most effective approach, like in most of PvE, is to use a build and gear that produces as much damage as possible, avoid/dodge the CC’s and the spheres, burn down the mender as quickly as possible, and spend the rest of the time burning down the statue as quickly as possible. This will be best accomplished by mostly spamming 1, preferably with a sword for a ranger. But it can be done ranged as well. I did it for the first time last night with my thief, which is not even one of the main toons I usually play (mesmer, guardian, warrior, ranger, necro in that order.)
