The "Gold = Everything" Problem.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Pandabro.8743

While I agree, you are unlikely to get any traction on this. As stated the ability to not have “soulbound” items was a big selling point and seems to be one of the core ideas in this game.

The ability to buy anything with gold, combined with the fact that anyone can buy gems and convert it to gold cheapens the prestige of almost every single item.

CAN WE PLEASE CHANGE Leader leaves party

in Twilight Assault

Pandabro.8743

The party leader, (should call it host rather) is the one who opens the dungeon and hosts it for the entire party. The only way of opening the explorable paths is by sending someone who has cleared story mode, which I think is very reasonable. Sadly this is not like WoW party system, you can’t transfer the host to one character to another.
Understanding this is very important before complaining about the issue.

I’m sorry but if you want to avoid this, clear story and host it yourself if you’re sure nothing will come up. if not leave it to someone who does. Just make sure you coordinate before entering. I know what you’re going to say.. “well then revamp the system it sucks blah blah” I’d say no to this. It is annoying that if the leader suddenly leaves the party is screwed but other than that, it works perfectly with the kind of dungeons gw2 offers.

I was under the impression that this happens regardless of if you’ve cleared story or not… Am I wrong? I’ve almost always been the one to start the group so I haven’t run into this.

What are your feels of having a Healing Role?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Pandabro.8743

Pandabro.8743

No I don’t miss pure healing roles.

I do miss having more roles that actually bring value than straight up DPS.

Guardians are currently the only ones that can offer substantial support to have another role other than DPS. Support in this game is just… sad. It’s hard to pin down exactly why (Probably a lot of reasons) but here’s a few ideas:

  • Conditions being lackluster in PVE. They don’t really do jack.
  • Only might, aiges and fury do anything in PVE.
  • Control is almost completely nullified by Defiant and only reversed by adding in regular mobs to an encounter that actually have an effect.
  • Healing stat doesn’t scale with almost anything and when it does the scaling is so low that it’s worthless.
  • The roles system was rethought but the encounters are very standard MMO quality encounters (With exception of a few recent ones).

Among other reasons.

So overall there needs to be some substantial modifications to make the game around this system, not just throw the system in the same old MMO and hope it works.

Weakling, did you ever do any of the older WoW raids? Stuff like Onyxia took 25~ min for a medicore organized group on voice over, a 15 minute boss is no problem, if his hp fits and there are no bugs or trolls (both that sadly exist if its open world or plain made by a-net).

Yeah and do you remember how painful doing Onyxia was? That fight was NOT fun.

Between this and ascended gear I’m starting to believe Anet is catering to elite players. It has been a growing trend since Queen’s Gauntlet.

They are not catering to them. They are just finally creating content for them. There is PLENTY of casual content in this game and has been in nearly every single release (Including this one). There is next to nothing to keep elite players enticed beyond tons of farming for a legendary.

I’ve got 25%, 50%, and 75% rewards. All had a bit of silver, some karma consumable, a green, and one of them (I’m assuming the 25%) had a Gilded Coffer.

I’m praying that the kill rewards are amazing, otherwise I may never ever get a legit shot at killing this guy. As soon as someone kills him and finds out what the rewards are there will either be a huge influx of people trying to do him or a mass exodus when people find out it’s not worth it.

Like others have said: 15 minutes is about as long as any fight should be, unless it has 4+ phases that are very different.

IF anything needs to change it should be his HP by ~40%. So far I’ve only heard of one server getting to 50% so it would still be a challenge for that server but would feel much better for the rest who would be getting him to the <50% range.

No, but also yes.

I’d love to see more fights like Tequatl in dungeons, possibly with larger groups but I still like having massive fights outside of instances where everyone has to work semi-coordinated to down the boss.

The big meta events are one of the biggest reasons I bought this game and I’m glad to see that there is one actually worthy of the hype around now. I’d rather not take that feeling and shove it into a private instance where I’m forced to find more people to even participate.

I am done with it, for now.

I expected it to be hard but not 5% in 15 min hard. I thought it would at least get to 50% on a fail. I will just wait a few weeks and see what happens. Otherwise its a waste of time and silver at the moment.

This is the flip side of hard content. Especially on this scale. People came to see the event and because they were not even close to beating it they got discouraged and left. Many of them wont try again. the more people that throw their hands up and don’t try again, the less often we will have our 100 bodies needed to beat this. You wont see these people back till it is on farm mode again. and because of that It may never be. I’ll take a look when I get off work.

But I have to agree, if it takes me 15 minutes to fail repeatedly and build up a nice repair bill I likely will not break my neck to get to the event in the future. I still have 10 ascended weapons to grind.

Hmm… I disagree because this is something that has never been done before. It’s basically premium content and hardcore players will continue to beat their heads against the wall to do content like this just for the sake of being able to say they’ve done it. You see this in just about every MMORPG ever, where there is a small group of hardcore players that are willing to go to extreme lengths to accomplish these difficult tasks. The community tends to rally around these players with support.

This is what the game has been lacking, that really difficult content that hardcore players can cut their teeth on and casuals can try and then follow along with those that finally master the content. It creates a sense of community and purpose to have content that’s more than just “commit X hours to farming and get X item”.

If you want to be pure melee, you actually have an important job: Turret Protection.

You should be killing the fingers that pop up all over the place. They poison the turret users. Also, kill any mobs that are around the turret users.

This. I haven’t tried the boss yet but I’m fairly certain there are many other targets besides the dragon himself. If the dragon is melee unfriendly maybe focus your efforts elsewhere.

I watched a couple of people attempt him for the first time and it seemed to me exactly how any first attempt at any good raid boss in WoW would go. No one really knows what’s happening and lots of people dying all over the place. I’m fairly confident that given time well organized groups will be able to beat him but it’ll be an epic event (Could take some larger guilds coordinating). I just hope that once they do they are well rewarded for their efforts.

Then there’s the whole other issue of a que. Why was it not instanced? Also why am I not rezed after I get out?

5 really is too much. It actually effects hardcore players much more than casuals. As a casual I can easily leave 3-4 games and then simply not play for a few days (Probably do some PVE or simply not log on).

Now if I were to get a hour long ban after my second dishonored (To make sure we account for at least one disconnect) that would put a damper on my severely limited play time and I wouldn’t want to do that at all. As it is I don’t ever forsee dishonored effecting me. People that play 20-30 games in a few days may see bans simply from disconnect though.

I don’t know why this doesn’t get complained about more. I guess it’s because their effects are more passive than getting blasted in the face by condis. They are the ONLY constant in a team. Other classes have come and gone in comps but bunker guardians are by far the most consistent thing in a team. You essentially cannot compete without a bunker guardian on mid point but for some reason everyone is okay with this.

Not to belittle you OP, I’d love to see more DPS guardians but honestly I think part of the reason is that bunker guardians are just so ridiculously strong compared to DPS guardians.

These open world bosses will always be lackluster because there are no tight restrictions that can be placed on the number of players that can be involved so mechanics will always be generic and minimal.

What Is The Point Of Downed State...

Necro’s have to have it the worst in this regard. Not only do they not have any ability to reliably stomp anyone (No stability/invul) but they also have one of the easiest to avoid interrupts (Can miss, be blocked, invul etc). Rangers are a close second as their only saving grace is the fact that they can have very reliably win down state battles because of their pet.

One of the primary reasons for targeting someone in a teamfight is simply “Who has the easiest downstate to stomp?”. Mesmers, Thieves and Eles are rarely primary targets because they can avoid being stomped for a longer period of time than any other professions.

Would love to see some tweaking in the down state area.

This will probably be true as long as conquest is the primary gametype and the points are as small as they currently are. As long as the primary objective is pushing the opposing players off the point AOE will be highly valued.

A couple things can address this:

  • Larger points – This will make it harder to just spam aoe on a point and be effective, you need to actually make a choice about where your AOE is going to be most effective.
  • Smaller AoE radius on all skills – Same as above just a different approach.
  • Different game modes – Small scale deathmatch, CTF or any other game type will massively reduce the reliance on AoE.

Yes. I don’t think it’s unreasonable to censor a thread every once in awhile when it spoils results of official tournaments. I care that my experience of watching isn’t ruined, it’s much less exciting if I already know who wins in the end and I know that others probably don’t appreciate it either.

Sometimes things get in the way and you CANNOT watch the matches even if you want to. Why should my experience be ruined literally the next morning because I couldn’t watch it the day before when it would have taken a mod about 10 seconds to change a subject line? Which I know the staff peruses these forms often and it would be quite convenient for them to make that change while they are here.

Stop making this out to be an unreasonable request, many esports sites go to fairly great lengths to keep from spoiling results as much as possible.

Plus those posts probably belong in the PVP Events because they are actually event related anyways. If I saw a spoiling title in the PVP Events section this would be a complete non-issue.

I assume you are talking about S/D thieves? Generally you don’t thieves and eles generally have so much mobility that if it’s 1v1 they will consistently disengage whenever they get in trouble, but you can outlast them though and that’s equally as good as killing them because it means you take the point.

Play as defensively as possible, you probably aren’t going to get much damage on them anyways so no sense wasting dual use abilities (Like Putrid Mark, can be key for making them play defensive). Corrupt Boon their buffs if they are using runes of lyssa. If you can hit them with at least 2 fears (First will probably use their stun break) you can hit massive damage on the second and give you time to regenerate.

But yeah. Actually killing a decent thief is nearly impossible for us.

For Guardian and Elementalist and Warriors (well war less now) that burning pretty much is the extent of their damage as they don’t have poison, and confusion backing it up. Burning itself is fine, it’s who has it and how they put it out.

It’s good that their is a condition trait in Spite, it ideally creates reasons for everyone to go in a line and mix things up, but burning is too powerful for that role.

I see that, in itself, as a problem. If you build for conditions but are relying on one condition to do anywhere from 60-80% of the damage is that not a problem? Shouldn’t condition builds have multiple sources of damage?

Constructive necromancer thoughts.

in PvP

Pandabro.8743

Burning is just simply too much.

The problem is that the Devs decided it was better to give us a massive amount of damage and THEN fixing DS instead of the opposite. Honestly if they had just fixed DS in the big balance patch I would have been very happy.

Burning needs to be changed to something that supports the power builds not something that is so valuable that condi necros HAVE to spend 30 points into a tree for very little other than it (Seriously, if burning wasn’t a GM trait there would be almost 0 reason to going into Spite for condimancers).

This isn’t really a problem that is specific to necros either because burning is just so ridiculously powerful. It turns attrition (Which is what conditions should be about) into burst for every class that has it.

Personally I feel burning needs to be brought down a bit, perhaps make it deal less damage per tick but have a longer duration across the board. This would bring it in line with the attrition nature of conditions but be much more manageable and not such an immediate threat. I realize that this is a significant nerf to other classes as well so they would need to be compensated for it somehow, but as a whole condition builds lean on it so heavily that I think it needs to be brought down a bit.

Our damage before the June patch was fine, it was never the issue, if you let us stand and free cast we could inflict a ton of pressure on the other team. Then they gave us the ability to do it even better, still without survivability, now we have survivability. Just take back the damage and we’ll be in a good spot.

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/pvp/pvp/So-you-want-us-to-use-Deathshroud/

:)

While some might have been saying that it was not the intention when I started the thread.

Necros DO have decent survivability when they have >50% lifeforce built up, the problem is besides a exploit (Minion killing) there’s no way to build up that lifeforce to bunker a point at the BEGINNING of the game. Having lifeforce across the board is probably a bad option but many brought up that warriors have Adrenaline tied to a heal that they can pop at the beginning of the match to gain some Adrenaline so there are creative options that can be used so that glass cannon necros don’t have access to huge lifeforce at the beginning of matches.

It would be nice to be able to have the option to soak damage early if I feel that’s my role in the team.

Players should be much more visible compared to their minions/pets/clones as well as have a larger click area than their minions/pets/clones. Tab target should start with Players and proceed to minions after all player targets are exhausted.

Are Necro’s easy to kill and need life force at the start of the game, or are they unkillable death machines?

These two threads seem to be entirely disparate and diametrically opposed.

Notice how, in that clip, he is starting with about half his lifeforce. In an actual situation an ele could pull that combo off before a Necro even has the opportunity to shift to DS.

It seems like a contrived situation. It’s awesome that we have a tool like that (Though having it available to glass cannon specs may be a little too much) but it remains to be seen if that will be a common scenario.

Allie,

Against a good team right in the beginning, we like to stealth ontop of their necro (or mesmer) and just 100-0 them before they can react. This is the scenario they are worried about. You’re inferring combat takes place in a slow fashion in the beginning. People get gibbed pretty quick in the first fight.

This is the main reason. It’s highly possible that giving every necro some lifeforce at the beginning of the game is too much but if you ever expect a necro to be able to do any sort of bunkering they need some access to lifeforce at the beginning of the game.

There is that bug with minions but it’s really just exploiting.

The main reason we haven’t seen any bunker necros is the fact that we cannot even dream of bunkering a point without at least half our lifeforce pool. So not only do we not have much access to stability or protection but our main way of surviving is completely kitten until halfway through the first major skirmish.

I’m not saying I want dps necros to be more survivable. I simply want the option to play a meat shield if I want to.

Not really need imo. It’s not like you’re charging in anyways…

That’s mostly because we simply can’t, not because we shouldn’t be able to.

That may be true. But they should give it to us in a way that you have to ‘build’ for it and not give it standard to every necro build. Because if you do it like a heal, which is nice for the start it might be imbalanced throughout the game as you just go full DS much quicker. Which wouldn’t be bad if you build your playstyle around it, for like ‘bunkering’.

Yeah I’d be fine with that. If it was added to a trait or something where you could get some lifeforce at the beginning of the game. So it’s actually possible to bunker a point at the beginning of the game.

Why don’t you actually give us some lifeforce at the beginning of the game? If you want us to use deathshroud for some survivability give us the ability to actually USE it to survive.

It’s like a guardian saying “Yeah I’m going to bunker this point, but I’m not going to use stability until I’ve died and come back because I’ll have used enough of my skills by that time to use it”.

For the love of kittens could we get some lifeforce at the start of matches?

Why Guild Wars 2 is not a team based game

in PvP

Posted by: Pandabro.8743

Pandabro.8743

It is team based, just a different type of coordination. Instead of trying to chain CCs and interrupts while avoiding the enemies (Which does happen, just not as much as in other games). There’s more emphasis on team strategy: where you are pushing or retreating, where the other team is pushing.
