Mystic salavage kit % of getting "rarer materials" is broken!

Since you have issues with opinions based on observations, lets look at your math and assume higher tier is considered rarer in salvaging. If you bothered to read, you’d see that I actually agreed with you on this point but was pointing out that the game shows otherwise.

Your first error is setting a base chance at 11% and trying to increase it by that. The chance is not increased by the percent stated. Next error is trying to find a percent chance based on a set amount of attempts and comparing it to a stated chance. The stated chance is on a per usage basis, not an over-all chance. IE Percentage is compounded on each use. 4 usages does not equal 1 greater in this case. As you should be able to see from looking at all your numbers and not just the Mystic results.

And that is the expected reply when asking about stated RNG percentages on consumable items, nevermind the debate on “rarer”.

I am truly sorry that you fail to see that there is an entire section of crafting materials called “Fine Materials”.

And to follow your link:
“To confirm this a much greater study needs to be done (N=500+). Because the values of these two are so similar it may be worth while to test small sample groups of the lesser masterwork, fine, and common salvaging kits to see if all kits have the same salvage rate of ~1.
While this is by no means conclusive, it does provide us with useful information. "

By your definition of “rarer”, in a 1-15 zone, T6 materials are rarer because you mostly get T1 materials. My definition of “rarer” means that in that same 1-15 zone, you get less T1 Fine Materials than you do T1 common materials. AND I will agree with you, at first glance the next higher tier of materials would seem to be considered rarer just because you get less of them, but that doesn’t fall in to the game’s established rarity scale.

wait wtf are you talking about? there are no greens or blues in this game that you can get from SALVAGING.

Um, I’ve gotten “fine materials” (which are blue) and Ectoplasm (which is Exotic). Don’t believe me about the “fine materials”? You can’t deny that Ectoplasm is a salvaged material, so go do a “study” on how much Ecto you get.

And to answer the direct question: I’m talking about “rarer” referring to the in-game rarity scale, not the tier scale. Higher tier does not equal rarer.

EDIT for your edit: Fine materials are crafting materials. I get more T6 fine materials off the 81-84 than the 80s or lower.

I never thought of the T6 materials as being any “rarer” than the lower tiers. I think each level bracket has a tier of materials and you’ll just get lucky and get the next tier sometimes. IE mostly T3 materials, but sometimes a T4. Since T6 is the highest, they’ve just set the “to 80” bracket to have the T5 materials as more common with the “sometimes” being the T6 materials. That’s considering there is a rarity scale with the the color coding and labels as such. This “study” only shows the “sometimes” multiplier.

“Chance of rarer materials” has always meant (to me) as chance to get more blues than whites, more greens than blues, etc. I fully expect an 81+ item to give more T6 materials than the >80 item. Thinking back now, I actually think that the 81-84 event mobs seem to give more T6 mats just as drops.

Even at lower levels, I’ve never experienced a higher rate of the higher tier materials no mater what kit I used.

Ditto, ever since last night’s update. It’s annoying and seems to ignore other sound volume settings.

Going to throw my name out there as another one that’s bugged. I mined all 12 nodes after the first restart and wasn’t on for the second restart. I log in this morning to find nodes not where they were. I get informed there was some sort of hot-fix (despite my not getting another update). So I get to hunting (yay for updated maps from other guilds /muchlove) and find I can get 5 out of the 12.

Hey everyone,

Thank you for your patience and understanding in this matter. We understand your frustration over not getting the item you expected, and as such we’ll be teaming up with Customer Support to help rectify this issue for those of you who purchased one of the affected armor sets while they were bugged.

If you bought one of these and did not get the correct armor set, please open a ticket with Support (even if you did so previously). Thanks again!

Please don’t lie to us. You only make your company look worse. I have had an open ticket since 9/14 on this very issue. Support says they cannot compensate…. hell, let me copy paste:

“Rest assured we are working on the issue and hope to have a resolution shortly.” = same BS response we’ve all got

Then they close my ticket and I reopen it asking why, and get:
“The Guild Wars 2 Support Team is unable to restore missing characters, items, or gold.” = More BS. the “Guild Wars 2 Support Team” is just a sub part of the greater NCSoft support team. I know for a fact NCSoft Supprot has the ability to create items and place them in players’ inventory. I know this because I can clearly see all my previous Aion tickets under the Guild Wars 2 support page, and if NCSofts kitten red-headed step-child Aion’s US Support team can, then the “great and powerful ArenaNet” Support Team can too.

But wait, there’s more:
Me: “My items are not missing. My items are bugged.” (I still have the full set of Gladiator armor in my Bank.)
Them: “I am transferring your ticket to a higher tier of customer support for further assistance. Someone will be in contact with you as soon as possible.”

That was last Friday (9/28), I give them the weekend to find my ticket yet again closed. They even decided I should get a survey about my support experience! What a laugh.

I reopen the ticket asking them to stop closing it when I’m waiting for them to respond and get:
“It does appear there were some issues with the Armor packs. Our development should have this resolved now, so it won’t actually happen again. However I am afraid we currently don’t have any way on our end of things right now to confirm any purchases of these packs or offer any kind of compensation or refund for them. I completely understand this is less than ideal, but we are limited right now by what systems we have in place. We are working to get more tools for the future so we can hopefully assist with a broader range of issues. I know this doesn’t help you right now, but I did want to let you know that we are working on improving our options.” – 10/02/2012 01:02 PM

I then point out to them that they even say on their 9/25 notes that compensation will be given to those that complete the final Personal Story quest before they are done adjusting the rewards, so obviously compensation is possible.

I am now waiting for them to just close the ticket and again hope I just give up.

And…. Thanks for playing the “We are ArenaNet and we sold out to be even lower than the lowest NCSoft subsidiarity and will continue to lie to our customers to hopefully keep them spending money on our broken product” game!

Player Note: I opted to buy Guild Wars 2 because I was told by several people that I played Aion with for years that despite being published by NCSoft, ArenaNet was still in full control and their support is leaps and bounds better than “NCWest”. I left Aion because support there is utter garbage and they’ve just opted to remove all the challenge (aka fun) from the game. I can see now that Guild Wars 2 is following the same stand point. So GG QQ, let me know when this game and company finally get out of beta.

Freya, I’m not exactly sure what world you’ve been living in. As previously pointed out, tech development moves dang fast in times of war. Just look at how fast/far the real world’s tech developed in wars past. Not only have they shown us all the early stages, but they’ve also setup up the groups to adapt just as “perfect” as they have. Think a moment: All three major groups in The Pact are comprised of all the races AND have their enter-bickering thrown in your face at every turn. They’ve been stealing and plotting against each other for so long. Now they get to actually say “hey kitten, do it this way!” As pointed out when you adapt and create the prism cannon (ie C&C, nice one Anet ). The only point I really see as just “thrown in” is the orb you get from the Krait to suddenly be able to stop the dead from rising again and again. The Marshal (we call him “Tree kitten”) could use some more back story if you’re not Sylvari, as he seems to just suddenly show up as a replacement for your original (and much cooler) Order guide.

I haven’t played every race nor every class and I may never get that far, so I’m sure there’s even more thrown out there for us to piece together. And that’s the best part about this game: We get to actually explore and discover, rather than get hand-held and told every little detail.

Now to see how many “kitten” edits I get!

Automatic group formation rarely works right. LFG global chat channels get overrun with BS spam about anything from RMT to how one’s mother’s basement needs air fresheners. So I add in support for just adding to our existing LFG tool. And having it under Contacts does make some sense. Where else would you go to contact people?

Yes, Dungeon Armor is purely for looks. Just like the biggest grind – a Legendary Weapon. But to you all that think a mere 60+ runs is a grind: I laugh real hard at you. I mean you could make it a grind by just running them over and over, since there are no cooldowns. The idea is to find the grind you enjoy the most. If you don’t enjoy running the dungeon, why are you so hard out to look like said dungeon?
