Requesting clarification on multibox policy

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Pennry.9215

I think you misunderstand how multiboxing works in this game. There is no follow, so a person just has to run several accounts on one pc controlled simultaneously. You just stand all your characters on top of each other and press one button and they all run forward, press F and they all mine. It’s exactly the same as if you’re running one character, except it’s 5 or however many you can afford all standing on top of each other doing the exact same actions.

And you exaggerate multi-boxing to the point of using assisting applications.

Multi-boxing = controlling more than one box (client)
Legal = Controlling all boxes manually
Illegal = Controlling other boxes automatically

In you example, one keystroke and every client (box) reacts. On my PC, one keystroke and only the active client (box) reacts. (Sure would suck to have my other windows randomly searching for wwww12www33111www.)

A proper/legal multi-boxer has either multiple PCs with their own keyboards and mice in front of them or tabs between clients.

Tixx Minis and Foostivoo?

You can not, at this time, use tixxs minis to create festifoo. If you combine tixxs minis in the forge you will get another random mini from the game.

So I propose that they add them to the formula. Seems only fair.

Should City Waypoints be free from anywhere?

I’m against free waypoints. It’s not hard to cover the fees and if you’re having trouble, plan your trips better. Honestly, port fees are so minimal as it is. What are people doing? Porting across map (4s ish), just standing there, then porting back?

At the very most I’d be okay with a bind point option – Where you pay a one time fee (larger than the mere 4s it takes to jump across world) and you can bind to any waypoint, then you have a skill/interface option to return to the bind for free (standard CD options applied). This is common in so many other games, I was actually surprised to not see it here.

“Tradition for hundreds of years”? Where does it say that they’ve been doing the same things they did in Guild Wars (1) for the last 200 year leading up to Guild Wars 2?

I am sick of seeing people complain that Guild Wars 2 isn’t Guild Wars (1). It’s a different game with a large enough time gap for just about anything to happen/evlove.

From the way that post is talking, I’m assuming that is for the dungeon DR system. I hope to god that is what they’re referring to at least.

That is for dungeons.

As for open world, I think it’s by area and not mob type. All vague responses have been about farming “an area”. As for time, I go for a hour and it seems consistent enough.

Scheduled Maintenance

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Pennry.9215

Pennry.9215

You DO realize that this probably the first time GW2 has been down for any extended length of time in a long time right?

Compared to the maintenances of other MMOs, heck even non-MMOs like Diablo 3, the downtime of this game is pretty nonexistent.

That’s the problem. Every time they’ve opted to do “service while running” there’s been issues with play interruption. It’s obvious that they don’t need it weekly, like so many other games do. Why can’t they just be honest and tell us they’re sorry, but things have to come down? If it’s going to affect the login servers, grouping, communication, ect. then the servers should just be shut off. I’d much rather them take the servers down at a set time. Even the 3 minutes open world or 3 hours dungeon timers for “new builds” is good enough really. Only time I’ve had issues with the three minute warning was when I was gathering and wanted to finish before the nodes rescattered (that’s a whole other issue).

Simply scheduling maintenance in advance allows players to work their play time accordingly. Stop showboating that it can be done, and start doing it right.

I don’t know how they determined who got the mail. I received one and I was able to complete the event fine. My wife (last I checked) didn’t receive one and she had nothing but issues, kittenin’ at me about how she could barely get connected let alone actually do the even with me and our friends. People I know that completed the event multiple times still received the mail. Hardly fair here.

As for what’s in the box this time around: Why complain? Really. If everyone is now getting the two rares, two exotics, earring and bag, why are you complaining? That would mean you got it to. So you’re getting the second chance at better loot. The only people that have any kind of complaint are those that, for some reason, still are not level 80. Their loot got scaled to their current level. To that I say: If you’re going to scale everyone up to 80, why not give out only level 80 loot. This works fine for these “one time” events. People not 80 can store the items until they are and have a decent upgrade the moment they level OR they can opt to turn a profit.

Just tell us a week in advance and shut the game down to take care of business. Please.

Currently, you’ve decided to screw me out of any group play. I don’t even know if I’m really even on line. My status reverts to “Offline” no matter what I set it to. I was in a group but now I show I’m not. They say I still show in group, but I’ve lost all group abilities. They can’t kick me to let me try to rejoin. I have no Guild Chat and no ability to get whispers. You’ve cut me off from everything I plan on doing.

Gold Farming needs to be balanced ASAP

Topic at hand: I know what to do to make a lot of gold fast. It’s not hidden from the general population. Can it be boring as all heck? To some, sure. Me personally? Depends on my mood. Should every minute played have the same reward? No. Time plus effort equals reward. Don’t feeling like putting up the effort? Your choice. If you want gold, either put in the effort to run dungeons or put in the effort to gain it elsewhere. If your choice of fun doesn’t seem to be making you enough money, then either concede to not having the cash fast or find some fun that makes you the money.

You can’t kitten about the game being “designed for casuals” while whining about not having what others have. True casual players just want to be able to sit down any time and do what they enjoy for however long they can. Not having hundreds of gold doesn’t prevent this.

If ANET doesn’t require you to have ascended gear and upgrades to even have a shot at completing the new content, then its not progression. If ANET does that, then its content gating. ANET was supposedly against content gating.

Sounds like you need to take another look at the bit ArenaNet gave out on the Ascended gear (from Linsey, if I recall correctly). They’ve added “optional progression”. Get it, optional. If you want harder, you progress. If you want the same, you don’t progress. So yes, you’re gated off from “hard mode” because you choose to not progress.

I don’t get how anyone could be against being “gated” against going to higher difficulty places.

I’m not about to go through all these pages of butchered merged threads to see if this has been mentioned before. If it has, consider this my “vote”.

- New crafting materials need “deposit” function with proper slots in crafting bank
– Fractals of the Mists needs to be more forgiving of player disconnects/quits
– Love the dungeon drops thus far, finally seeing some “inbetween” gear is real nice
– Fractals of the Mists should let us chose up to the max difficulty any player in group has reached. Give a warning or whatever.
– New zone is kinda small, could have used some of the other blurred islands right nearby
– New zone’s mobs are too bursty. They’re all one attack then nothing, survive it and the mob dies easy enough.
– Tweak Veteran and higher Kraka respawn rate. It’s a bit fast as is. With a duo you can down them easy enough (a little effort depending on the players), but all the time to kill them twice makes it so that you’re finishing one off for good and the last one is back again.
– Change prices on “donation” gear

What you don’t understand is that ANET plans on using agony in future content updates to “keep the progression going”

What about my post makes you think that I don’t understand that? Honest question. Think about it. The “Agony mechanic” equals, the further you progress in difficulty, the higher chance a debuff has of being triggered. I said “if you don’t like progression, don’t do it”. Currently, if you don’t like the Agony debuff, you simply don’t go that high a level. What I foresee is ArenaNet adding more dungeons like Fractals, where they get harder (and insert Agony) the more you beat it. It’s a great idea. This way all those that like to stay still and not “progress” their stats can keep playing the easier version AND those that like to grind out them stats get to use them for more challenges. This is their attempt to please both groups of players. Again, a great idea. And by “keep progression going” I see them simply making it that the more stuff the add the sooner such mechanics kick in. Eventually you’ll just have level one difficulty if you want to avoid it. Maybe they’ll force it, but that just means you get to skip that dungeon. Would you be missing out on some fun? Possible, but you’re choosing to stay stagnant so it most likely won’t be your kind of fun.

Don’t get me wrong. I love a good challenge, but I also some times just want to relax. All I have to do is find a few people with a mood that matches mine and use the up/down arrows on instance access. That’s not all that hard to do. Which is what this thread was supposed to be about: grouping based on people’s limits.

First, people have always set “rules” to join groups. There is nothing any developer can do to stop this. As pointed out, it’s my time, I get to choose how I use it and who I use it with.

Second, this entire update was centered around people wanting to grind and feel some sort of progress outside of their in-game wallets getting fatter. Don’t like to grind things out? Too casual a player to bother with planning and dedicating time to your character’s stats? Don’t run the dungeon for the higher levels and said grind/gear.

Third, Agony isn’t the only thing that makes higher levels of Fractals “harder”. Aside from that, it’s resistance currently cannot hit 100%. So it’s still going to happen.

Fourth (and the kicker), why don’t the “casuals” actually group up? Why bother complaining about the limits on other groups? If the “casual” playerbase is large enough to justify all this hate for the “progression”, then it should be large enough so sustain it’s own groups. Actually be community driven, come together, form Guilds and Alliances. But, no, you’d rather complain that some random person doesn’t like your pixels.

They are rocks on giant steam columns. Aim to land in the middle of each column. Zoom out and look down (say at 60 degrees ish). You can also wait a rotation and let them all go first, this works well once you get to the first landing where you can wait between steam columns.

… To complete Phase 1, you have to complete the dynamic event chain leading to Noll before Saturday November 17 at 12pm Pacific Time; -snip-

Unless I’m reading this horribly wrong, this information seems contradictory? Apologies if I’m misunderstanding, but if not, I think this needs to be cleared up.

Needless to say, the events can’t progress if Noll isn’t fixed and from my experience, he’s basically bugged both on our home server (Aurora Glade) as well as the overflow. Hopefully the additional time ArenaNet requires to fix it, won’t place it in an unreasonable time-frame to complete it before it’s gone.

If you have completed the events leading up to Noll, and that you are standing and waiting for him where he is supposed to spawn, you have nothing to worry about, everything from that point onwards will still be able to be completed after Phase 2 has started.

What I don’t like is the lower reward rate. I got about as much vendor drops (greens and below) as any other dungeon. Only 15 “Relics” for a T1 run seems a little low, when we get 20 for running anything else more than once. Plus no Karma, don’t see why they recently added this to other dungeons to only not add it here. And not coin reward at the end of the three.

About the Fractals' scaling difficulty

in The Lost Shores

Posted by: Pennry.9215

Pennry.9215

It should be just like current dungeons: You beat it once (story), then come back and choose a difficulty (path).

They could make it so that difficulty options are opened up by beating previous ones, or all at once. I see no reason to not allow people to go straight to max, other than there being no real “max”. What if we want to get a group, start at level 1 and just see how far we can go? What if (as mentioned above) new people want to run the dungeon, will they be forced in to harder modes just because the rest of the population is auto-saved so high? Makes no sense to me to force difficulty progression – other than trying to make people stop playing because they get to an unbeatable (for them) difficulty .

The article says: “The dungeon will remember you progress, and will poll the party’s levels when you enter, scaling the dungeon to the highest common attained level.” Does this mean if two people are at level 10 difficulty, then the whole group plays level 10? Or if the same party has the three others at level 3, then they play level 3?

Pennry.9215

There’s no reason to believe that Ascended gear will be the final tier. I mean a week ago everyone thought Exotics would always be the top end gear and look how that turned out. Anet set a precedent and there’s absolutely nothing stopping them from adding further tiers of gear if they feel like it. I’m not upset about it, but there’s no point in sugar coating that it is a treadmill.

Well they did say that Legendary would be the top tier, and that they would be adding more Legendary items.

toomuchtatose.6874, Why use Exotics? Why use them now? You don’t need to. With the current information, you only need Ascended gear and it’s slots filled for later/harder versions of the instance. Now, of course, you’ll want the Ascended gear for the stat increase, just like people currently wanted the Exotics.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

“Gear Treadmill” to me means that you never stop getting gear, ever. Mainly this applies to needing upgrades to do further content.

So far I need Ascended gear and I need to slot it to go the farthest in the new dungeon. This in-it’s-self is not the “treadmill” yet. It’ll become a “treadmill” depending on how fast they opt to release new tiers and/or if they opt to add more dungeons with unique debuffs to be buffed against. If they opt to add more dungeons with the same debuff and more Ascended gear, it’ll still be the same pace as before. IE Not a “treadmill”.

So until they start cranking out updates that keep making things obsolete, there is no “treadmill”.

people dont read lol, the gear will only be needed “in the new dungeon”

And it affects the rest of the game. Thus it becomes needed in all aspects of the game.

Other dungeons don’t use the new agony mechanic
which is what ascended gear mitigates

so no. its not needed for all aspects of the game

Ascended gear does not mitigate the new Agony debuff. Only slotted Ascended gear does. Thus giving us a double grind. Grind once for the gear and again for the slots to survive. Those not interested in the harder parts of this new instance should only have to do the first grind.

However, the stat increase is overall – including the standard socket that comes in (crafted) accessories. Thus the stat increase is desired (read not needed). Considering you can do everything up to this point (and from what’s been told up to the harder stages of the new dungeon) in Masterwork or worse gear.

I have no problem with the stat increase and another tier of gear (rarity in this game is the tier system). People already ask for full Exotics and “full experience”. There is no way to change this. This is done by the players and not the devs. The only way to stop it would be to only ever have one type of armor, ever.

Will people get over this 2 notion? First, it’s not +2, it’s +5 for that example (3% MF).

Time to compare existing tiers (“rarity”). We’ll use Opal as that’s what Linsey so foolishly used:
Masterwork: 39 Power, 39 Precision, 3% Magic Find + 3% Magic Find, 12 Precision, 12 Power
Rare: 42 Power, 42 Precision, 3% Magic Find + 3% Magic Find, 13 Precision, 13 Power
Exotic: 48 Power, 48 Precision, 3% Magic Find + 4% Magic Find, 15 Precision, 15 Power
Ascended: 50 Power, 50 Precision, 10% Magic Find, 18 Precision, 18 Power

For those that fail at math:
Masterwork: 51 Power, 51 Precision, 6% Magic Find
Rare: 55 Power, 55 Precision, 6% Magic Find
Exotic: 63 Power, 63 Precision, 7% Magic Find
Ascended: 68 Power, 68 Precision, 10% Magic Find

So take that, double it for the two rings we wear. Add in the unknown back piece. Then they’ll be adding the rest of the pieces (Linsey says so). The upgrade is very worth it.

All it means is that people will now hit 80 and go for Ascended gear rather than Exotics, thus killing all previous content (dungeons, crafting, etc.). And this hurts, bad.

EDIT: And yes, we have to have this gear “to get to the fun stuff”. To succeed in this new dungeon, you have grind out the Ascended gear and then grind out the slots. Previous dungeons were only made easier with “better” gear. This one flat out puts a death timer on you unless you have this Ascended gear.

And I still don’t get why we’re “ascending”.

I read the lame post linked on the launcher. I knew the ArenaNet of yesteryear was already gone, this is just this new ArenaNet pissing all over the old.

First, it’s just dumb to have a dungeon specific debuff to base a “build” around. So much of being anything any time. Back to being what is needed.

Second, “slightly” my kitten I saw that picture of the two rings, that’s not a small upgrade. If it was, no one would bother replacing their Rare gear with Exotics before this. Take that one shot, double it for the two rings, add in the back piece…. let alone the “coming soon”.

At least they said Legendaries will get upgraded to match this new bs tier.

I can see it now: Get all the Ascended (wtf I already ascended in one game NCSoft killed) gear for this new dungeon, slot it for this dungeon’s debuff. Wait a couple months to do it again for the next dungeon’s debuff.

And we know it’s going to be a “grind” as they said all these new slots will be obtained from the Mystic Forge. So grind the dungeon for the stats you like, then grind a bunch more for the Forge recipe to slot it properly.

So, goodbye.

lol You do realize that they only gave us levels so we’d feel like there’s some progression outside of the “Personal Story”, right? Level scaling works great until you end up getting top gear (ie wearing exotics in 1-15 zones). And you don’t even need to starting thinking about that kind of gear until you’re well past 75.

I finish all the dailies just by getting 12 Orichalcum nodes.
