Anyone with any desire for event drops from whatever event’s bag, will soon cap and just keep getting more.

The way they throw Luck at us, I’m certain it’s to cover something and plain useless to begin with.

Not sure what the problem here is. After we trigger the assault, and kill all the bosses, we zerg around hunting for chests for 5 minutes. We redo the event, complete, zerg, rinse and repeat. My only complaint is the lack of bank access.

The key detail here is that all other fortresses are neglected, and only Amber is defended. While this does progress the meta, it’s a lot less efficient.

Honestly, I wish ArenaNet had made it a mandatory requirement to hold all Forts at level 3 defence to trigger the breach.

Today I joined (randon on login) a chest farming map. It was horrid for actual profit per hour compared to an organized full map completing map. First, I didn’t get a single shovel the whole time – defending every time it was up. I think the higher the defense rating, the higher the shovel chance. I also received fewer gear bags and no rare gear bags from the breaches.

A completing map seems to get me way more of all the bags faster. In between defenses, I could easily hit up several chests outside any fort I opted to be at. The extra rare loot bags from killing more breach champs really add up. And the breach happens faster (or at least seems to) when the map is doing everything. Let alone more of the regular gear bags that can give rares and exotics too.

Straight shovel farming seems less efficient than other areas of the game. I think most people just aren’t realizing this and/or are preferring to mooch other’s shovels/work.

This is wrong. People are making hundreds of gold chest farming. I go in there with no shovels and come out with no shovels and still manage to get a ton of loot. The Zerg is self sufficient. The number posts about this issue is a testament as to why this is so broken.

They could be making “hundreds of gold” but they rarely state how long it take them nor how lucky they are on what they get out of the champ bags. The average champ bag yields less than the other possibilities. You get garunteed more bags if you mix the chest farm into the actual map meta. Faster breaches mean more rare bags in less time.

So yes, I see their “hundreds of gold” and I’ll double it (or more) in the same time cranking out the map-wide meta. Chest farming is not the most money:time, it’s simply the easiest. And it’s only “broken” because too many people can’t see past ease of acquisition to actually do the math that a little more effort brings more.

Keep in mind that before season 2 if you missed something you wouldn’t even have a chance to do it, seeing as it went away as soon as the episode was over.
Sure it can be a bit annoying to have to pay a bit for access to it if you missed it. But at least you have the ability to do so.

You can also join someone that have in unlocked if you want to do the story for free.

Well there are more chests spread out among the other forts. It seems pretty even in the gaps between them. However, the gap north of Yellow is just easiest to camp. I’ve also tagged the events around there just killing a mob that keeps interrupting my chest opening channel. So I do keep getting the occasional shovel, but not nearly enough to sustain so many crests for keys. I do end up getting the Bag of Stolen Goods to help keep my inventory from filling with crests or keys I’ll never have enough time to use all of.

This again?

You need to do the un-soloable events to even get a chance at the shovels, you need to buy the keys ahead of time or go back to the waypoint and run back out when the chests are uncovered, and there’s even a “break time” for people to get the chests. Why do you people hate lots of loot all of a sudden?

When you own a fort and it’s not being attacked, there is a vendor in it that sells the same stuff as the one at the Waypoint. And yes, people always hate on a farm. The ones that hinder other events seem to get the most hate.

This is definitely not working as intended, I farmed for about 2 hours and go a stack of champ bags, about 1500 Dragonite, countless badges and many other random things such as bags of gear and other ascended materials. The rate in which you get badges seems to be far more rapid than the rate you can buy and use keys. Shovels didn’t seem to be a problem as it seems the zerg always has enough to unearth all the chests around amber. Also, for some reason everyone puts up yellow commander tags (why?)

Yes, the chests are pretty close to an endless loop provided there are enough shovelers. It doesn’t help that you can get large chunks to help keep the loss down. I averaged about a loss of one key per twenty, however, the random twenty crests kept that loss near nonexistent. Add in doing the Breach when it pops, and you’re on endless keys.

As for a “nerf”? I don’t think there is a need for one. People are always after more access to the ascended materials and Oby Shards, plus the one off cloth is a nice too. Although I do see them making less chests spawn or lowering/removing the crests from them to help diminish farming over map event success – especially since it’s looking like they’ll make the expanded boss require Breach success.

Yeah it’s not impossible. I’d say it’s definitely bugged though. Took a few tries with a coordinated party, skipping Canach and clearing everything. Having portals to get the instance owner there instantly so that the mobs became vulnerable. Fears and mesmer curtain. Got it in the end. Definitely not how it’s supposed to be done. But it can be done.

They patched this method out.

Canach now triggers even if you don’t talk to him. Even with full stealth + swiftness not stopping to kill anything the achievement failed before we could even get to caithe.

It also triggers if the person’s who story it is doesn’t do anything. Any party member that passes that corpse threshold or looks at the indicated corpse will trigger the mobs to fail the achievement.

I don’t like that I still have to pick and guess a gold amount to see how many gems it’ll be. I’d much rather enter how many gems I’d like to sell and see how much it would give. At best both options.

I also don’t understand why the two exchanges aren’t even. If I’m selling gems to players, shouldn’t it be the same? Right now I can get 20 gold for my 157 gems. If I want to buy 157 gems, I have to pay 27g84s56c. Say “no” to hidden fees.

As far as the rounding goes on the gems to gold: Is it up or down? At what point, the standard half? Is it then double rounded, first by coppers then by silver? And why isn’t the gold in gold to gems rounded?

Drop itens does NOT create gold. It actually removes 15% of the gold when selling in the TP. The Halloween events are actually removing lots of gold from the game, BUT they promote gold concentration in the hand of few players.

You can’t really say they do not create gold if you’re putting a clause of needing to sell it on the Trading Post. If they ever take the vendor values off items, then you can say that they do not create gold.

@Tman.6349
You cannot say that Trick-or-Treat bags do not create gold when a good chunk of it’s contents can be vendored. People, like my self, that are buying the bags for a chance at the rarer contents should be vending a good bit of those items as they are either not selling on the TP or (more commonly) selling at vendor pricing anyway.

With current pricing, I’m only losing a few gold per stack of bags from selling whatever I get from them. A good chunk of that is from a vendor. I shuffle some gold to someone, but then create some more to recoup some losses.

EDIT: And if I were able to farm with exploit, I’d just be making gold off the contents of the bags and not shuffling any anywhere.

Consider this – it’s an instance that you are only supposed to visit once. Not once per character, once per account. By repeating the start to farm you are exploiting a loophole, and by using the balm on the massive amount of critters there, you are exploiting the oversight of the creatures in the instance dropping loot (which doesn’t happen in any story instances).

This post is completely inaccurate. If the instance was only supposed to be played once it would not be open to playing again. Repeat content, as was clarified with key farming, is not an exploit. I would not believe using the tonics in this way would be considered an exploit, as you are using it as intended. There is no bug involved, the tonic is working as it should. It may have been unexpected to Anet, but you are not abusing the system here.

How is this open to being played again after being completed as intended? Other than waiting for next year’s repeat?

With Key farming you have to complete the content, get the reward, start over, do all the work, and repeat. With this, you don’t complete anything – you either Waypoint out or Character Select and back. Anyone that completes the Personal Story for the Key can easily create the new character and do it again. Anyone that completes this Halloween story cannot come back later.

This lines up with several previous story instances (Personal and otherwise) where they’ve deemed it an exploit due to people not completing it as intended. It also lines up with several previous open-world event being patched because people weren’t completing them as intended.

I honestly don’t mind people farming the instance. I mind the lack of consistency from Arenanet. Not only are they not being consistent with their reasoning on what’s an exploit, the reasoning why this particular instance is “okay” is just silly. Because every other exploit ever done had nothing to do with this “player driven” economy? Ha!

Not reading all the pages to this, but will put my opinion anyway:

I don’t like the set values. If you wanted to simplify it, you should have just set the Gold to Gems as a select of how many Gems we wanted and it’d give the price. Like the Gems to Gold was in reverse (you’d set a number of Gems and it’d tell you how much you’d get back).

From all the complaints I’ve ever heard/read, it’s all be a desire for this.

Your pet was dead when the screen was taken. If the pet would be alive, its HP would be lower. Everyone has more HP while in downstate.

And to be honest, pets are like bad designed dungeon bosses. No real threat but an enormous HP bar as compensation.

My pet never died. It gets to about 2k HP and I leave combat. It’s recovering from leaving combat. It hits some 76k+, then jumps down to normal HP level. Besides, when a pet dies, it’s HP sits at 0 (though I’ve seen it sit at 1) and it hobbles around. Pets don’t get down state.

Agree with the changes to leveling in that you get better loot suited to your class and in that leveling will include rewards. Disagree in that they are delaying progress just to make that progress feel more important.

If you’re going to change the LS to start at level 10 and downed state to level 5, then better make that opening instance every character has level me 10 levels (with a tutorial on being downed for level 5). I really think, that if more tutorial is needed, then they could better make it fit in that opening instance. Currently the opening instance is nothing but “follow me to a boss and somehow kill it”. They could inject an enemy that instantly downs a player then taunts you, while your NPC guide tells you about your options to get rallied. They could even extend this instance and break it apart for an optional (I’d say optional after one character on an account completes it) plot that leads to the Personal Story at level 10.

As for the stat progression, larger chunks every few levels doesn’t make them feel any more special. In fact, it makes those levels in between infuriating as you’re not getting any stronger and have to wait. Are they going to dumb down the mobs to only get stronger every few levels too? Are going to be able to kill things several level above us with the same effort as those at the same level?

I’m fairly sure anyone who wants to use the new system to farm the salvaged materials would just keep an open slot to keep leveling a character over and over for this, while maintaining their other characters/classes to actually run content.

I’d assume this due to them wording the post to imply that it’s a change to help leveling character actually get what they can use rather than be forced to sell what the get to buy what they need. With the most expensive materials being in the mid range (T2-T4) and each character eventually out-leveling those tiers, it makes sense to want to stay in that range. And since there is no XP disabling, recreation is the way to go. Leveling is incredibly easy now, so it’s not much effort to keep such a habit up – especially if you’re already one that likes farming.

EDIT: And I’m fairly sure the power hungry level 80 heavies will still run content even if the change effects 80s. Just on the fact I’m fairly sure (doing some quick math) that the speed of reward outweighs the benefit of extra salvage materials, especially since at 80 it’s mostly T5 with a few T6.

Agony Resist on Back & Others

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Pennry.9215

For accessories, put versatile simple infusions (or other +5 AR granting thing) into the regular slots, and put a +8, another +8, and a +9 into the Agony Infusion slots (located on infused rings, and infused back item). This will give you 55 AR, enough to handle level 49, and since these can all be swapped on any character, it means any of your characters could handle up to level 49. It’s pretty much the sweet spot, as to be able to handle level 50 on any character without other ascended gear, you’d need to slot +13, another +13, and a +14. Very expensive—better to just get 3 pieces of ascended armor to be able to handle level 50.

I didn’t even think about this as an option. I’d only do the “hardest” on my main that is full ascended, so I’d skip the 13s and 14. But having a set of three pieces to swap to any class would be fantastic for the lower levels. Now I ask, what would you suggest I get for stats on these three pieces? Straight zerk just for damage? Or do you think there’s a better stat combination for across all classes?

DO NOT change the dungeon owner system

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Pennry.9215

OP suggests to let there be a “leader” that is immune to being kicked. Or at least if they do get kicked, they still kick the rest of the party out with them. The reasoning being that they “own” the party/instance. Correct?

First, none of us players own anything in the game. The instance isn’t your house. You, the player, are actually an invader or helper of the true owners.

Second, just because you think typing a LFG message is “more work” doesn’t make you more special. Want a real life example? Who does more work the grunt or the boss? Who does the firing? Sounds fair, right?

Third, a much better solution would be that when a player (any player) is kicked, they get prompted that they were kicked and and if they would like to stay in the instance. If they chose to stay, they are there at the point they were kicked (or some checkpoint system close to it) and can freely repopulate another group to finish said instance. Yes, this is entirely a huge undertaking to make possible, but IMO is the best solution to this kicking problem as a whole.

Crafting "Backpacks"

Pennry.9215

So, since no one else has mentioned it, I’ll point it out. Has anyone else noticed that all of the professions specific back pieces have six stages?

Now, for the professions that are presently boosted to 500, this easily makes the benchmarks 0 (starting the profession), 100, 200, 300, 400, 500.

There is no 500 for JC and Cooking right now ….that we know of….
Could they be sneakily adding it?
Or are the going to shoehorn the additional level in somehow?
Or are just getting the short end of the stick again?

Food for thought?

There are six tiers of crafting materials for 1-400 crafting. 500 crafting just combines five of the previous six tiers into a seventh. If you look at the previous linked Tailor recipes, you’ll see that they stop at Exotic T6.

[SUGGESTION] Improve Party Kick System

Everyone says to build a friend list – how do u build a friend list (or indeed a block list) based on non troll/stupid/hyper elitist dungeon PvErs if you don’t PUG in the first place?

You get off your dead kitten and make posts in the guild forum saying what you’re looking for, or in the dungeon forum, or on Reddit or Guru. You type in game chat. The same way people would build friends’ lists before LFG tools were created. You be social in a social game.

All that is still pretty much PUGing. Sure you could blindly join Guilds, but those people are still strangers to you at first.

My suggestions for the kick system:
- Set votes to true majority – that’s three votes for a full party of five.
- Keep Party chat. Period. We can create and edit quite a few chat tabs, so nobody can really say they’re annoyed by old Party chats. Or at least make it like every other chat and be wiped on logging.
- Set event checkpoints and rewards for them. Divide the instance end rewards among the instance’s encounters so that if one has to leave group (for whatever reason), they still get something for their time/effort. This could have the added effect of getting people to skip less.
I do see the issue with Fractals having such a weighted Boss Fractal reward. I’ve never like the Fractal system, so I’m at a bit of a loss for suggestions there. The only thing I could think of would be some kind of token system to let one come back and only play the Boss Fractal.

Twice-Told Legend ... really?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Pennry.9215

I don’t understand people’s counter arguments to the OP.

First: The OP is comparing what’s gained in the Achievements category, nowhere else. So why bring up other categories for comparison?

Second: Why does everyone bring up just the skins? I know some people probably still craft them solely for the skin, but you gain so much more now. You get the skin, the ascended stats with promise that they will forever be top-tier stats, and the ability to change these stats to any available combination.

So, someone who created two of the same Legendary didn’t lose anything with the Wardrobe addition. Unless they crafted the second Legendary solely for the skin, then they just lost time/effort; but if you’re going to compare the whole picture, you have to include the fact that they still gained the other Legendary benefits.

As someone who’s created more than two Legendaries, looking at the Achievements panel is kind of insulting. If I compare everything else, I still come out on top. However, I do not understand the reasoning for compensating people that opted to make a duplicate Legendary just for the skin, when you’ve already enhanced the Legendaries beyond mere skins.

Again guys, as I mentioned, this would only work among trusted people. I was just trying to gauge the kind of market these items would have.

Looking over, if you were to actively buy/sell the account bound items, it would cost 500-600G, which wouldn’t be a good route.

But if you were to buy/sell the account bound items for 100g (especially if the seller does not value them at ‘market’ price), then it would be a wise investment, assuming trading with trusted parties.

Then you should know your market as it’s just your list of “trusted people”.

TexZero.7910, I don’t know how you define “GvG esque” but, to me, all of WvW allows this no more than Edge. I also don’t see where you see this “180 degree turn into play all the modes development mentality”. I see that mentality from the get-go. They’ve always had LS in WvW and if a WvWer wanted anything LS/dungeion/Legendary they’d have to leave WvW. The only complete separation is SPvP and everything else. Which, thankfully, they seem to be working towards merging.

I think Scarlet wants Jungle to fight Rock and wipe us (LA) out in the process. Just so she can take control of the aftermath and (she hopes) have taken out two dragons. Or at least take out her “master”, Jungle.

You can scream “no other source!” all you want, but you’re lying. My home instance node with copper pick (most return per strike) says so. Both are available for a limited time only. Not many complaints about the home nodes from the LSs (more like a tone of praise). Then add in that as a gem store pick, it has a fairly high chance of making another limited availability run – thus allowing those that missed this whole LS a chance to have access to Sprockets. I’d actually welcome more gathering tools with a small chance at a limited resource from previous LSs.

Thoughts on EotM and PvE content

I’m fairly sure it’ll be us chasing Scarlet to the new zone and it being pure PvE, then later “now that Scarlet is gone…” we get the WvW-esque map.

And I had a good laugh at all you saying you can’t wait to kill PvE-ers. After all the complaining that any of these LS updates had anything to do with WvW maps in the past.

Suggestion: Auto-adjust settings if FPS drops

I honestly think most of these issues would be solved with some more separation of settings. Let us adjust skill effects. A simple “All, Party, Self, None” would work. Weather on or off. Let us prioritize viewable players. Nothing like having players set to low and not seeing my own party.

As long as there are Achievements in the game, there will be this problem. All I can suggest is to wait the hunters out or try to compensate for them (difficult, I know, but you wanted challenge /snicker).

I only seem to lag in certain parts of the game. Like the map and some icons for skills and items. Where the rest of the game, actual skills going off and things moving around, are just fine.

Open raid content doesn't work!

I find open world “raid” bosses fun.

In another game I’ve done massive boss battles (bigger player numbers than GW2 has yet to show me) with massive PvP around said boss. Talking about having to get all those people to work together to fend off a massive player army and work out the boss mechanics – all for a chance at loot. So when people complain in GW2 about getting a few people to work together, I can only think it’s a player problem – not a dev issue. There seems to be a mixed mindset among GW2 players. Seems to me that more people either need to accept the desire for community progress or just leave these bosses/events alone. That’s how it was over there in that other game: Those that wanted to work together for the sake of a good time and possible loot all got together and had at it. Those that didn’t find massive battle to be their thing, just stayed away. Then again, the loot was gained for stats and those stats were also available elsewhere. Where GW2 LS events seem to want to force people in to one activity for something (ie Marionette’s crafting designs). The problem with the likes of Tequatl and the Marionette is that you need all these people working together, yet a small few can ruin it. There’s no room for learning and others compensating.

All-in-all open world “raid” bosses can work just fine. I’d suggest reworking some mechanic to be a tad more forgiving (ie the “hardcore knows everything” should be able to compensate for the “casual just learning”). I’d also suggest spreading limited LS rewards out more – give people options, even if it’s slightly less rewarding.

LoL at the stats.

Just because it’s purple and says Legendary, doesn’t mean it’s going to be a valid addition. By that standard, we already have Legendary armor. We’ve had it for a long time, just only NPCs wear it.

Karma and Obsidian Shards

Honestly i dont understand that. I know many people have a hard time with Karma, but not me :/

I do many WB when i dont know what to do or wait for something, some fractal, some event, and i’m more than ok…

I think regular WB can be a great way for that, with timer is pretty fast.

Its just some advice if it can help you… But one of my guild member join me for finish legendary, for karma, and say me he get Karma faster with the WB…and buff work good for that. Maybe look at it.

Haven’t actually paid any attention to the karma from world bosses but maybe that is it. I do seem to be getting a decent amount but I have no clue where it’s coming from. I do the world bosses and the pre-events if I make it there in time.

I gain a ton of Karma from just doing the world bosses. I skip a few and only do them on one character. Of course I do have a fair amount of boost from achievements and have the necklace slotted for karma boost (have another for Power/AR for Fractals). I’ll say I average 100k-150k per week just on the events. Add in some map complete (needed for Legendary), a Fractal run, and a Tequatl kill here and there, and it really starts to pile up. Then there’s WvW with massive Karma for everything.
