Dand.8231, I think you missed mine more than I yours. You want a variety of ways to directly obtain ascended armor and weapons. I simply pointed out that they, the devs, didn’t want this as they felt it made exotics too easy. I further point out that although it’s not direct, you are still able to get ascended armor and weapons doing a variety of things.

Now you point out Fractal rings. Note that pristine relics didn’t come out with Fractals, but with a later update. Who’s to say we won’t get more direct methods later? In fact, the devs have said (at several points) that they plan to add more methods for all ascended gear as the game progresses.

So you have the “do it now” by combining all your efforts in game in to crafting or getting lucky and the “do it later” by just waiting. As pointed out in many threads, you don’t need the gear right now as nothing requires such stats.

Finally, adding more direct methods to obtain something does, in fact, make it easier. Case and point in game would be ascended accessories: When they first came out, one could easily get the tokens and ectos to get one from guild commendations and one from laurels in the same time period (even doing mostly the same activities). Variety for exotics just makes the difficulty a joke, thus the devs changed it.

As much as I enjoyed that trailer, I’m now disappointed. The trailer makes Fractals seem way better than it is. So I watched it thinking they’re getting a nice revamp. Then you tell us the trailer is from the original Fractals release. Thank goodness this wasn’t up then, as I’d have been even more disappointed with Fractals all this time.

Best way to use Laurels for Legendary

The question was the best way to use laurels for a legendary. I’m not sure many would say using more coin is the best way, just to say they upgraded a mat they didn’t need but had. All I’m saying is you gain more silvers saved for whatever you need with the T6 bags. The laurels won’t be “sitting doing nothing otherwise”, they’d be getting spent to net you more coin to better help you to your goal.

But do as you want, I’ll keep being “silly” making more.

You get three T6 per bag. So at your low end of 15 silver each, that’s 45 silver which is greater than your 39.8 estimate. The T6s from the bags are the best bet per Laurel:Gold. The only time I’d consider the binding agent worth more for the Legendary process is if those Lodestones were all that I needed to complete it. Even then, I’d probably go for the gold and buy them direct..

Yes, it’s slightly more profitable. Unless you already have cores and dust (from drops). Then it suddenly becomes a lot less profitable, because then a laurel is worth over 60s.

That’s why I got 10 agents (from my monthly laurels) and use the daily laurels for the bags. That way I can transform cores into lodestones if I have the required materials.

Just because you got it as a drop, doesn’t mean it has no value. Sell the cores, dusts, and T6s from Laurels. It all adds up when calculating value.

Dand.8231, they already stated that they felt exotics were too easy to get and that they wanted ascended to be a mid-range yet longer term goal, with legendary being the longest term goal. You can discount drops all you want, but it’s still a means of acquisition. And your whole math bit discounts the part where we get a choice with the current weapon box drops.

If they give trinkets crafting, then I’d ask for weapons and armor to have a token system to match. But so far it’s been tokens/drops or craft/drops – no reason to expect different with armor.

Lastly, “play your own way” does not translate to “do whatever you want and everyone gets everything”. You can play every aspect of this game in lower tier gear (most even naked), and while doing so you gain means to get the better gear. Just because it doesn’t flat out give you the gear, doesn’t mean you’re not getting it, you just have to put some thought and effort in to it.

I checked the prices yesterday, in game. Considering I mostly need the lodestones, I did some calculations.

I need Corrupted Lodestones. Those are between 68.5 and 73.5 silvers to buy (highest buy offer and lowest sell offer).

You can craft those lodestones using Corrupted Cores. Those are between 6.50 and 6.90. Let’s say you buy two of those at 6.50 (for a total of 13 silver).
You also need a Pile of Crystaline Dust. Which is between 15.70 and 15.80. (total 28.70 silver). The third ingredient is 1/3 skill point, which I won’t put a price on (3 crystals for 1 SP, and you need 1 crystal).

That means a Lodestone will cost you 28.70 silver + 1 laurel. A laurel is now worth 68.50 – 28.70 = 39.80 silver.

On average, a T6 material will net you between 15 and 30 silver (exluding taxes!). But, the biggest problem for me, it depends on luck. If you’re lucky, you get the more expensive T6 material and a laurel would be worth more than when you would get the binding agents and buy the stuff off the TP. But if you’re unlucky, or, even more importantly, if you have the cores and dust already, it’s more profitable to buy the agents.

At least, if you want Corrupted Lodestones. I also need Glacial ones, and it’s most certainly not more profitable there! (those are between 17 and 20 silver to buy…)

Even then, I’d probably go for the gold and buy them direct.

And that’s from Legendary making experience. I’m finishing up number six. And to you all mentioning TP flipping, if only I had the patients, I’m sure I’d be on ten plus.

To stop the “fill it asap” problem and having it end “early” they could put a per day cap so player input can only do so much per day.

Now take a few things in to consideration:
- The current state of the progress bar
- The current preview picture of the next update with it’s speculation of it being the Fractals update
- They’ve done indirect updates on the LS schedule that aren’t exactly Scarlet LS related (think Tequatl)
And we get that it seems to be a preset timer set for four weeks so that it covers the two week “break” for Fractals and they can pick up right after.

I’m more concerned about the Crystaline Ore they pointed at in the weapon’s preview. She specifically said it was there for armor. I want to know how to get and how fast.

Can you link to where this was said? I was assuming Crystalline Ore would be for jewelry…

Apparently I mis-remembered. In the video ( http://www.twitch.tv/guildwars2/b/453872177 ) at about 2:10-2:30 she mentions the cloth for armor and mentions teasing with the ore coming soon. Not quite as specific as I recalled. However, I don’t see ascended jewelcrafting coming any time until they mention some kind of token system for weapons and armor.

…..
And has there been any word on the different ways to acquire ascended armor?

Why would anyone think it be any different from the ascended weapons?

Because it seems rather absurd for a game that carries the motto “play your way” to bar the top tier of gear behind a single means of acquisition?

I’m sure there will be rare drops too. They’re there for ascended weapons, so most likely will be for armor too.

I highly doubt the bar is programmed to react with each personal injections

It’s probably programmed to fill a certain amount per day, over 2 weeks. They don’t need to make complex coding when visually then can just do this and get away with it.

Well it’s been almost a week and the bar isn’t nearly as full as it should be for a preset fill.

As I see the place slowly get emptied out, I’m more worried about having the annoying bar on my screen for longer than the two weeks. Why they stopped letting them disappear when you finished the “meta” is beyond me. Better yet, let us have a UI toggle for it.

Well yesterday I hit the jackpot: 4 rare Greatswords in the Mystic Forge, Bang! Dawn comes out.

After all the excitment I come to realize… I’ve always wanted the Twilight Legendary, not Sunrise. This is mainly because of the dye set I have (Abyss, Red and White Gold).

So, what would be the smart move here? Sell Dawn, to get Dusk, losing gold in the TP? Or just aim now for Sunrise? I know that the loadstone/core prices “compensate” (Charged>Onyx) the precursor price but if I still go for Twilight would I be losing a big amount of gold?

I got Dawn via the forge, sold it on the TP, gathered up the difference in gold for Dusk. The listing fee for Dawn isn’t that much, especially when compared to the time saved getting Dawn’s worth in gold.

Harbringer, I’m tempted to just try anyway since a splitter is only 300 Gems. I’d just rather someone else who’s done it to show us before I start on another Legendary.

Tentonhammer, I’ve got five Legendaries. I made them for their looks and don’t like the others or just don’t use that weapon. But I’ve got that extra Gift of Exploration just staring at me. :P The appeal of an all-stat, perma-BiS weapon with infusion slot is the main reason for making more Legendaries.

And that’s my main concern: not just the functions now, but later too. A dev answer would be preferred, but I doubt they know at this point. Even if it means I have to split, let the Legendary part upgrade, then retransmute.

Are you new to WvW?
Typically on Friday or when a server gives up because their they have no hope of winning, karma trains will occur.

Its been going forever
As for how the game is meant to be played, meh, i get xp as does everyone else so its all good.

I play for 3 months, and I only play for WvW.

I have no problem with karma trains if your server can cap stuff because the other servers gave up or offer little to no resistance, but lose your stuff on purpose, ask the other servers to cap them and don’t defend at all, now that’t simply wrong.

We can even talk here how Anet failed somewhat on S1 achievements. Having to cap SM 5 times is too much, and the lack of defensive achievements is very bad.

Just like to point out that a “karma train” is exactly what you say is wrong. You cannot “train” when the other side doesn’t take things back from you.

I think of these Karma/WXP trains as good sportsmanship. The match is all but won. You’re up by so many points the other team can’t catch up. Do you stand firm and rub the losing side’s face in it by just holding everything? Or do you pull your guys back and let everyone have some fun and benefit? Maybe it’s my inner “soccer mom”, but the latter seems much better for all involved.

I watched the video recorded and was disappointed.

1- I don’t like so many narrow bridges between the islands. Some looked to have “railing” but none were demonstrated. I am worried about so many bottlenecks with the many knockbacks and pulls we have.

2- Please get a new pilot. I did not enjoy one person talking about the mechanics of what happens when we do something while only actually seeing them fight a mob over and over. You were in “Dev Mode”, one-shot the thing and get to showing us the actual point of killing it. If nothing was ready to be shown, make all the mobs friendly (I saw you toggling that as you went) and just run the map. Lastly, I got tired of hearing our pilot brag about how good they were at the game yet watch them do little damage and die (or rather teleport away just before death) so often. Although I did enjoy the part where rather than using the dev teleport, they tried to Waypoint and were shocked they were still in combat.

3- The map does look pretty. It’s too bad that it’ll be wasted when so many crank the settings to minimal to help deal with server lag. I’ll be sure to hang out until I’m in an abandoned Overflow so that I can give the map due justice in exploration.

All-in-all I’d say I’m intrigued to see how it actually plays, but what was given in this “preview” could have been done in a simple teaser video with standard flybys and the doom-n-gloom voice over.

I’m concerned how this maps and it’s possible clones will work with the " war score". Will it have any effect or will it just be a WvW-esque map where one can do WvW activities (siege, etc.) but not actually contribute to the server’s score?

If there is scoring involved, what’s in place to keep one-sided overflows from forming (where there simply is no one of opposition)? As mentioned before, will placement to the original four maps be forced or will one be able to stay in the Edge?

You are not able to earn “war score” on the new map.

So it’s more of a place where we get to pretend we’re in WvW but not really doing anything? I guess that’s fine if you just like the WvW activities without caring for how well your server does.

That poses another question: What will be the incentive to hold any objective? If it’s a “yes” to WXP and/or achievements (asked above), then this map is bound to end up nothing but a zerg train.

Living Story retains players not by story or content, but by all the many new achievement points (it is the easiest way to get more AP).

Tequati Was Supposed To Be Hard

in Tequatl Rising

Posted by: Pennry.9215

Pennry.9215

The primary obstacle to most players completing this fight is the access as they join disorganized overflows or find insufficient people in the home server zone. If the developer’s intent was to restrict completion of this event to well led guilds with the organization to control a zone (or overflow) then access should have been been primarily designed with that intent as well.

Being in a “disorganized overflow” is purely the player’s fault. Not their fault they’re in an overflow, but the fault in being disorganized. I have never understood why overflow means instant stupidity. Why can’t players get they acts together and organize themselves? Sounds like too many moochers. It can be done in overflows, I’ve done it.

As for the servers with much lower turn out, I don’t see why you should be punished because most of your server decides to play the game how they want and not bother with a boss fight.

What I wouldn’t mind seeing is them adding a second timer to the fight. From 100-80 (ish) % is one timer, then from 80-0% is another. The first timer could be longer and used to determine scaling or, better yet, time to allow for people to show up and get organized. If the timer is used for scaling, I’d say to have the zone hard cap the population to whatever is there on map when the timer ends. This way you can avoid the people trying to rig an easier fight by only having a few people there until the first timer runs out, then flood the map to mooch easier kills. For a prep timer they could even add a pre-event to the announcement of Tequatl attacking, even if it’s just “Tequatl will arrive in X minutes”. The minute or so we have now isn’t nearly enough.

Any new build changes all node locations. Nodes will also change locations if a map is completely empty of players. Nodes respawn in six hours or at daily reset, whichever is longer.

That’s new info for me. Do you have a source?

Experience. Take it for what it is. I believe there’s some kind of timer that clears maps that are empty. Think of abandoned overflows. Overflows are created on the fly when needed and disappear when emptied. The bit on how overflows work was stated way back when the game launched and every map had several. The bit mentioned by others of map crashes are similar – the map reboots thus causing new node locations.

It’s smart server management even if it annoys the crap out of me. I’ve been gathering four characters for year now. Karka Queen and farm nerfs killed Southsun. Now I skip it on my daily runs due to it not being worth the effort to re-find the nodes every time.

Tequatl Phase Bug

in Tequatl Rising

Posted by: Pennry.9215

Pennry.9215

Just got done fighting Tequatl and noticed something for the first time. Tequatl will go invulnerable when it’s time for it to switch to the laser defense, but will stay and keep the timer running while it finishes an attack.

With Tequatl’s attack animations lasting several seconds and only fifteen minutes to kill it, those invulnerable seconds can really add up. If I can still target and hit him, I should do damage. We don’t need some four extra seconds to get to the defense points, we need some four seconds of DPS.

I’d suggest changing the phase switch process from just it’s HP. Make it so that when it’s down to whatever percent HP, that it puts the phase swap/invulnerable/fly away next in it’s rotation queue and not instantly. Or put the timer stop the instant the invulnerability is applied.

And yes, I’m mad. This last fight played Tequatl’s death animation while it popped up that we failed AND we had at least six seconds that I noticed of wasted timer due to attack animations playing out with no player DPS. Something needs to be done to smooth out the phasing.

Risk vs Reward [Challenging Content.]

in Tequatl Rising

Posted by: Pennry.9215

Pennry.9215

I’m enjoying the challenge, however, the idea of just playing for fun is negated when it’s nothing but a negative in-game return.

Think of it like this: Run a dungeon and die enough times to break a piece of gear. That’s <12s to repair it. You get 1g at the end, plus whatever random loot. You’d have to die some 80 times to be negative.

Bring in Tequatl. You fail the event and the event gives you less than a silver. If you’re good enough to reach the 25% marks, you get a little more. At 75% you might make back enough for one waypoint, and nowhere near full repair costs. Looking at the success rewards shown by those that have done it, I don’t think the average reward will break even. Granted you should’t die, but then if you had no chance of death, it wouldn’t be challenging.

I would say a loot increase is in order, just nowhere near what the OP suggests. And OP, your math is way off on this whole “chance to get what you want” bit. I don’t want ascended weapons (I have Legendaries), so your logic is flawed. I’d just like to break closer to even for the fight’s expense.

However the effort for this as opposed to a dungeoun run…you use far more effort in fighting the dragon, thus it should be worth SEVERAL dungeoun runs worth of raw cash/gear.

There is no “however”. Time is 15 minutes max, so they put 1 gold reward. If it was longer, then maybe they’d put more gold reward. Effort is much higher, so they gave chance for unique items and highest chance at sought after items. Time still equals set gold reward, while effort equals possible loot.

Requesting Harvestable Cloth and Leather

in Crafting

Pennry.9215

I blew threw a fair bit of leather just to make the bow string for my ascended Long Bow. This got me thinking about the nightmare it would be to make a full set of leather or cloth Ascended armor with only being able to break down items to get the mats. Armorsmithing can harvest nodes. I think it would only make sense that Tailoring have harvestable nodes as well.

My suggestions are make wool, silk, gossamer nodes that are harvestable with the current sickles placed with the same spawn rates as the relative level of metals. I would also like to see the introduction of skinning knives as a harvesting tool so we can skin beasts. You can even make an infinite skinning knife with an earth elemental graphic to complete the set of elements for the harvesting tools.

Please consider these suggestions for your typical casual players. With the current way of obtaining cloth and leather it will take an average player half a year at best to make a full set of armor if you are like me and can’t stand joining farming trains for hours on end to just buy the mats.

First off Armorsmithing needs Gossamer too and a lot more of it than the ore. The insignia are the same craft across all three armor professions. The only thing that needs ore is about half of the components (ie shoe casing).

Now about getting the cloth and leather scraps. I did always wonder why it had to be only from salvaging. But to gather it via a “node”? Shall we all raid sheep and cow farms? I’d only suggest upping the T6 proc rate on salvaging. I think they’re just expecting people to have a surplus of the scraps due to the new salvage everything for luck binge most everyone is on.

We don’t need to make excuses for the fight and rationalize the use of condition damage, especially when you are rationalizing this one specific instance. Even if we took your word as the way it should be, it still doesn’t solve every other world boss, every dungeon boss, and every single other combat situation in the game.

But this is the Tequatl Rising sub forum and the OP specifically complained that the Tequatl fight will still hinder condition damage specs. When, in fact, it doesn’t anymore.

The problem with condition damage specs in the massive world events is that everyone is focusing on one target for credit and capping the stacks asap. Yes, I’ll agree this is an issue, but don’t complain about the one major fight where they’re changing the single-target process.

As for the rest of the game? The only issues is with massive bosses and massive numbers fighting them. “Every other combat situation”? You mean 25 stacks is too little when solo? In PvP? Ha. Maybe in dungeons if you’re just pulling any ole player to run with without even asking about specs.

Can Living World let us fight other dragons?

Pennry.9215

The Living Story is already officially taking place after the personal story, so there’s not issue there.

No it’s not. ArenaNet has not yet officially made a statement in the story when it takes place, although it both takes elements from the end of the personal story (pact airships) as well as making contradictions with the end of the PS (Logan returning to Jennah).

Yet they said they don’t want to make any paradoxes for those who either completed, or didn’t, the personal story…

Logan going back to Divinity’s Reach isn’t a contradiction to the Personal Story. All of Destiny’s Edge stayed mainly in they home areas, then came together to fight a dragon, then go kitten y and went back home to pout, then came back together, then back home happy. They didn’t go off and make they’re own home together. They clearly come together when needed. So I’d expect to see further dragon related content to have them together to help.

As for the Personal Story as a whole, I’d consider it more of getting to play flashbacks at this point. The only time the world treats you on par with your PS point is when you first talk to the NPC after the opening instance and get told to “go make a name for yourself”, then on it’s completely unrelated.

I’m still holding out for the tie in to the “greater threat” of the dragons. There’s so much they could do, but unfortunately they’re not hinting at much.

Will Engineer Turrets attack Tequatl?

If Teq remains a structure, I would think that turrets will continue to not work (same for traps and marks).

However, traps, marks and turrets will come in quite handy in dealing with adds and defending the power nodes and Hylek turrets.

Skipping the whining.

This very encounter is a prime way for them to work around the “there can only be so many stacks on the one mob so the condition character is doing less”. You’re not supposed to be hitting one mob. The new Teq has you hitting all kinds of crap for credit in helping to win the event.

We all know what will REALLY happen.

I suspect I’m one of the few that actually watched them give players the chance to fight the new fight at their birthday bash dealie.

What should happen is people slowly get caught up to the point of knowing what those previewers know. Groups on each set of cannons, cannoners doing their thing. groups doing damage to Teq, at every 25% defend cannon nodes for a couple minutes, repeat, get reward if you win, none if you don’t.

The hardest part will be getting people to realize that every aspect of the event gives credit. It’s not like Jojo where only hitting Jojo gives credit and clearing ice pillars gives nothing. Kill adds, hit Teq, clear fields/buff allies with turrets – it all appears to be credit worthy. And we all know Gold is the same as Bronze when it comes to loot possibilities (just less XP, Karma, and coin).

First, the bit about the dragons being defeated before isn’t true. The referenced dialog (and several others like it) state that the dragons have been weakened before and that so far it’s been a never ending cycle of the dragons getting getting stronger and then getting weaker. So far (at that point of the Personal Story) the peoples of Tyria have only been able to weaken the dragons, sometimes to the point of hibernation. The dialog mentioned is in reference to using previous encounters to help weaken the dragons enough to get a killing blow in.

Second, I don’t think the big Z is dead at all – merely weakened again. That’s only because of how the “fight” was done and the lack of a corpse. We don’t go down in to the depths of Arah and party. We don’t even take a trophy shot. We run back to base to watch techno moas. There’s been nothing further on the purification of Orr, which should be well on the way if Z is dead.

Third, it does make little sense for the controlled minion to suddenly be more powerful when the controller is dead or dormant. Are the lieutenants are supposed to be some kind of different? This would be a good point to work up some kind of continuation of the existing promotion (think Jojo and Shatner rank titles). That we’ve killed dad but son is there to rise up and take his place. This, to me, seems to be the best likely tie-in.

It makes sense considering the actions the story took to “kill” Z. We pretty much created a hole and sliced our way straight for Z, doing enough damage to kitten Z off enough that it comes out looking for the fight. Flying around above Arah, we only take out a few of the dragon minions, ignoring the (apparent) hundreds others. The whole story seems to be “cut off the head, the rest falls; okay, how do we get to the head? starve it out a bit; okay head’s dead, we won… right?” Now here’s where Teq gets to say “haha, no”.

All-in-all, it’s a pretty elaborate way of explaining why suddenly the dragon that we could just pedicure to death before is no longer so weak. I truly hope for such thought out writing and story, but the track record so far hasn’t shown Anet all that capable.

Yeah…I’m not a fan of dungeons. Maybe I’ll step back into them with the new Group Finder thing, but I still doubt I’ll enjoy them much.

Also, easy doesn’t really seem like the right term. It’s 20 per path, and some of those paths can take quite a long period of time.

Standard DR applies to them too. What that means is you can still farm a quick/easy path and keep getting the Shards. You just don’t want to be too quick and get less than the 20. A lot of people are doing CoF 1 then 2, then repeat. Any longer dungeon and you could probably just go right back to the same path.

What you failed to include was the Crystalline Ore/Ingot. The Ascended weapons video has them pointing right at it saying that they added the slots for the Ascended armor craft without it being in game yet.

The Crystalline Ore is the one thing that eludes me from being prepared for the armor crafting. With the current other three ores covering most everything, I’m wondering where they’ll source it and how fast we can get it.

Ascended refinement caps you at 475. So just look at them guides to see how many things you need to discover after you subtract what they show for 450-475.

You want to do max difficulty Fractals, so you want Ascended weapons, so you want to spend the time getting the gold/materials. Does the means justify the ends for you?

Personally, I’m holding out for armor and just taking advantage of the stupid sale price of materials I get anyway. If the frenzy dies down and prices fall again, I’m just further on top.

Not 100% sure what material I'm missing here.
