Ahaha well it IS somewhat unbalanced if you just stay and camp the bosses over and over, since you get a few rares with each chest. Though the CD is a bit long for the chests, yes, I agree.

Um, I was able to get the chest once before getting locked out. I got two greens. Even if I saw such luck as you did, I wouldn’t say it was “unbalanced” because anyone could farm it.

10/26 Graphics Crashes

First, my system:
Windows 7 64-bit
AMD FX 4100 at 3.6 Ghz
AMD Radeon HD 6870 (now driver 12.10)

I started the day with no changes from the previous day when all was fine. I then started today (10/26) with a brief log in at about 1:30 pm to check a few things and things seemed fine. I then came back at about 5 pm to discover issues.

These issues happen no matter where I am in-game, it could be the middle of Lion’s Arch or way off in some corner by myself.

First, I notice that my “refresh” issue is back. I have the vertical refresh forced to “Always On” to match my display (a Samsung 42-inch television) and this had reduced the issue to once every few minutes. Now it’s back to every couple seconds. What happens is that my screen flickers and you can catch the vertical refresh (by seeing items at the bottom of the screen at the top and make their way down. Naturally, this only happens in-game.

Next, every few moments (a minute, a couple seconds, random really) the game will just stall. No sound, no movement, nothing. Then it does one of three things: flicker out black and instantly come back again with whatever was happening to me happened (ie I’m still in-world); the screen will black out, my television will show “Searching For Signals” (like the PC has been shut off) for a second, then the game comes back; or the screen will flicker out black but just show an unmovable in-game curser with game sound, Alt-Tab to a Guild Wars 2 prompt telling me “Guild Wars 2 has encountered an unrecoverable graphics driver error and must terminate.”, OK on this and game closes.

So I go looking at my driver. I had 12.8 and update/site tells me 12.10 is available. So I go about removing the current driver and application profiles and installing the new one. I first just installed the new driver package and had the same issues. I then had to reset the forced vertical refresh with the issue persisting. I then installed new application profiles package to see the issue still continue.

The two other guild mates that were on say things are fine for them. So I’d think the issues was on my end, but so far it’s only effecting Guild Wars 2. I’ll also note that when I logged in after 5pm there was no game update, but after the first crash there was. Naturally now I can’t play, so I’ll be open to any and all suggestions.

I’ll agree on making it instanced. So sick of other characters in the way or spamming Quickness (love watching someone spam it then miss jumps anyway) and messing things up (normally I’d wait it off, but in the Tower I cannot).

Do you have both? Do you have the T3 and the Heart versions and actually equipped them to see that they are exactly the same? Because “preview” doesn’t always show the real deal.

Outside of that, it does seem odd, but are you sure the others aren’t out there? That’s a lot of Karma vendors to check.

I support OP. No candy for kids.
As a matter of fact I think that 50 candies – just too much, those simple carbohydrates are going to transform cute quaggan ghost kids into fat quaggan-sea-pigs. Anet should reconsider what they have done, they promote unhealthy lifestyle to susceptible auditory.
IMO candies should be replaced by rice/protein shakes or atleast oatmeal!

So people complain about not winning at the lottery so Anet listens and gives another chance for people to win the lottery but this time include halloween crafting mats and valuable materials and people STILL complain? NOTHING besides making the skins accessible to everyone will satisfy you people.

NEVER did Arenanet say that the black lion chests had a 100% chance of having a skin. How on earth is this false advertising.

The only reason I was excited for the Halloween event were the skins, especially the Greatsaw Greatsword Skin. But after the crap they pulled, I’m not supporting their company anymore.

New PvP tourney system. 30 new dynamic events. 3 New jumping puzzles. 1 new mini dungeon. So you werent interested in the pvp or pve aspect of this game, only the skins? (and this is ignoring the craftable skins, the scavenger hunt, and the costume brawl)

So do you just play this game to collect skins o.0?

All of that is not the event. Events should be fun and a step away from the normal day to day “grind” that is the normal game. Without spending money or grinding some more, your only skin option is book back piece.

Considering the only rewards in game are the skins, it better be fun.

Chat Prompts & "Disconnects"

Ever since the 10/22 update I have been issues with chat. I’ll randomly have my prompt changed to “Say”. Before the update, if I left the chat on Guild, I could change characters all I wanted and always be back to Guild (I could even have different tabs set to different prompts). I could change zones all day and still have whatever prompt I set it to stay. Now I’m almost always defaulted back to Say. It’s so bad I’ll even just be running around doing things and it’ll just change. The friends on my contact list say it tells them that I’ve logged out and back in, both messages back to back with no delay. I don’t ever actually lose connection (just swear because I just typed in Say and not the prompt I wanted). Some guild mates of mine say the prompt is changing randomly for them too.

Sure, I can keep checking to make sure I’m typing in the right prompt, but it’s pretty annoying!

The last part of the Personal Story is just to go to the fort, talk to people, and celebrate. Several people completed the story up to this point and were just waiting for the “fix”. They noted that it was coming and there are several threads on the other rewards, so there was no real point in completing that final bit. So people just waited for the compensated rewards and completed theirs.

As to why there isn’t a story portal outside that one part of the fort for those that have completed the story, I have no idea.

Keeping the long text of how to do the “hunt” off-site is fine. I’d much rather you add in what else there is in the event to do and where about to do them. This way your “event guide” is less a single quest guide and more about the whole event.

Scavenger Hunt Reward/Progress (Spoilers)

After completing the “Scavenger Hunt” for the story, you’re told that there’s more out there. This tells me that either we have wait for the next Act or there’s random parts out there that we’re just not directed to (most likely the former). I’m okay with this. I got my reward and stashed it in the Bank for later.

Now my issue is with the reward, a back piece, it’s self. Why aren’t we given a choice? My first character (an 80) that I did it on has no use for the reward’s current stat selection. The second character (a 40) that I play has a use for it, but currently has the same thing from a quest reward.

Character One has no point in continuing to do the “hunt” unless later down the road I get to pick a stat spread fitting that character. Character Two would be benefiting from the upgraded version(s), but I have one issue: Will the final result be like what’s given later from the Personal Story? Will it be on par with what we can buy from the guild vendor? This would be okay by me as I would get to save some gold.

Lastly, as a side note: Did I miss something where it was listed what there was to do during this entire event? All I saw was a bit about the costume brawl and what we could buy. Nothing on this “hunt”, nothing on these doors (that I’ve yet to see), nothing on any kind of progress on through the event. Don’t tell me I want my hand held or some other BS. I’m just asking for “Help X find Y!” so I know to look for X. What happened to the NPCs running up to you asking for help?

I’m upset that they’ve set this “event” up to be exactly the same year after year. There’s no other explanation for this kind of setup. Honestly, it’s just too soon to set such a standard. Maybe next year (or the year after that), people will have Banks full of dungeon Tokens and other craft materials just waiting for a use.

Huh? Why does everything have to cost the same? They’re catering to all price brackets so there are cheap and easy to get items, items that take a bit of work and expensive items for those who like a long term goal. What’s wrong with having something for everyone?

A Gold grind with a built in Gem to Gold conversion is nothing “long term”. But that’s aside the point. The point is: Everywhere else one can get level 80 armor skins cheaper and a majority of them are actually Exotic and useful. All through leveling too, do they show you easy gear. AreaNet’s own campaign was that there would be no “grind” and getting armor, etc would be easy enough for everyone. Why then the sudden jump in price? Tiers 1 and 2 show a decent progression in price, why not keep to that scheme? Heck, they could even go as far as calculate how many dungeon runs it takes to get each piece and how much Gold you can get from those runs. That is of course if you want them cheaper. I’d actually like to see everything else made more expensive, but 30g for Rare 80s is just ridiculous. Make them slightly cheaper and make them on par as Exotics, or bring everything else to par with them.

Maybe for PvE boss fights only and that’s just because they have such huge pools of health that high a stack doesn’t seem to do much (and they’ve said they wanted to rework that already). About events, Bronze is barely less rewarding than Gold (/flameon). And if you even dare to think more than twenty-five stacks of bleed is okay in PvP, get your head examined! :P

Again, I compare it to everything that is like it: every dungeon set and the previous Culture Tiers. It just doesn’t fall in line. Either T3 Culture Armor needs to be cheaper or everything else needs to be more expensive. AND I’m okay with the latter.

If you’re going to have a strict enough filter to limit “bite”, why is there also the option to report someone for their name? I’m serious. If you don’t like someone’s actions, their name, typing habits, whatever, we can block them. I understand AreaNet’s filter reasoning, as they’d like some control. BUT “Online interactions not rated by the ESRB.” translation " We can’t control what other people say and do." If you don’t like it, ignore it.

I have had one of my character’s names forcibly renamed. No email, no notification what-so-ever. Just try to select character and hit Play, bam! prompt that I have to change the name to continue playing. If such a name wasn’t allowed, why was I able to create it in the first place?

To people mentioning getting creative with varying the spelling of whatever name: last I checked circumventing a filter was a bigger offence then just typing the offending text.

I think the real point is the great difference in price compared to the other gear. If it’s to be so “rare” and full of “prestige”, why are the other sets so cheap?

EDIT: The lower prices and scaling of the previous tiers sets the expectation of the T3 to be cheaper than it is.

It’s the same kind of question. How are we supposed to tell how it is either way? However, I’m going to go with “yes” (to both the NPCs and the trees). But with the NPCs it’s usually setup by some players (intentional or not) or some other event. The poor rabbit will die every time that Risen sees it, but it may not always see it. It could be torn off that path and the bunny gets away.

A few more I’ve come up with:

14) Allow cross-character WvW queuing.
- With WvW queue times reaching quite some time (hours?), it’s quite annoying to be tied to one character. In my case, I have one character I consider my “main” and prefer to do WvW on, but she has little non-mindless grind to work on. I’d like to be able to queue this character for WvW, then switch to another character and do something else like leveling, etc, but keep my main’s place in line. Then when your place in line comes up, the prompt still shows and you’re loaded in to WvW on the character you chose to queue with (no matter what character you are on). Just make the queue cancel on log off and not character select.

15) Add dungeon token conversion.
- Before anyone gets pissy about people never running the proper dungeon and the appearances losing any “prestige”, read on. I’m not saying just let us hit a NPC and be done with it. I’d like to see a Mystic Forge recipe for it. Like the other up-convert recipes, it would require the desired dungeon’s tokens too. So: X Dungeon A’s + Y Dungeon B’s + two other standard Forge crap = Z (range or set amount) Dungeon B’s That or let us convert to a new, non-dungeon found, token that we then can use for another set.

16) Add a “Home Waypoint” option.
- Let us choose a waypoint to set as “Home” to quickly port too. Have it set a button on the map/mini-map. Don’t remove the cost for the port. This would be just to make it quicker and easier to get someplace. I’m just sick of bringing up the map, scrolling all the way out, then finding where I want to go, then scrolling back in, and finally clicking the waypoint and accepting the fee to port… just to be told I’m now in combat and cannot port.

I don’t see a reason for Gossamer (and all other fabrics) to not be something you gather like everything else. It’s the only White crafting material you cannot gather. Apparently Tyria forgot how to grow fabric materials and have been forced in to just recycling what they’ve got.

That’s just mean. Some people have other things to do then ensure they’re able to long in just to see what’s available. Would be nice to know what’s coming when and for how long so we can play accordingly.

We do know the act structure of the event – the first act starts on the 22nd, the second on the 26th, the third on the 28th, and the fourth on the 31st.

And what of each “act”? What’s in each act is a huge point on if I want to bother with it or not. It’s bad enough the whole event is so short, let alone the limited time for each “act”.

7) Allow us to move weapon skills.
Once we’ve unlocked all the the skills for a weapon, let us reorder them. Sometimes we just want to setup our skill bars to fit our style of play.

8) Allow weapon equip in combat.
Not everyone has every encounter memorized. Sometimes you get in a situation and realize you’d be better off using a different weapon and it’s just a pain to get out of combat long enough to swap it over. Personally, I found this most annoying when it comes to AoE or not. Sure, some classed get a weapon swap, but most use it for a range and melee options.

9) Make all loot drop like in WvW.
If you don’t know, when you kill something in WvW, the loot bag drops at your feet and not necessarily on the corpse. Why is this not so in general PvE? It can be just as annoying and dangerous to have to run up to the corpse.

10) Add mob and object collision.
I guess you could make it any enemy. With the complaints of dungeons, I’m hoping to see some more complex fights. It would be nice to see which mob is doing what. And I mention objects because it’s become a recent practice to stack siege weapons on Vistas and chests.

11) Enhance the LFG system.
Whatever you do, do not make it automatically setup groups and port you to whatever instance you queue for. I hate systems that do that. They take all the social aspects out of group building. Make it a simple interface where one just chooses if they’re looking to join a group or need more for an existing group. Let us put in a simple message (ie “Need 1 for AC exp path 2”). You could even make a global chat channel for just these messages, but that’s not necessary as if you want a group, you can just bring up the interface.

12) Make map reveal account wide.
Not map completion, map reveal. I just want to know where the stuff is. Make it so I can see all the Rallypoints, PoIs, Vistas, SPs and Hearts. Just make me still have to run out to activate and complete them as normal. This would make multiple characters easier without having to consult out of game websites or an existing complete character.

13) Make Story Mode dungeon rewards an options piece of armor.
Let us choose one of the six pieces of armor as our Story Mode reward. They don’t have to be some special skin. Just make it so people leveling have a way to an decent (Rare) set near their level. This way also lets you upgrade what you feel you need the most. This should also promote more people replaying Story Mode to help others.

There they are, my baker’s dozen of suggestions. Most of them are mere “quality of life” things. If there’s already a discussion on them, please feel free to just link to those threads to keep it in one place. Otherwise, input is welcome.

I’ve done a bit of everything here, so I think it’s time for feedback. Yes, I’m sure some of this has been noted elsewhere. I’m just putting my two cents in.

1) Asuran Gates should have destination on mouseover.
I think newer players would find it easier to know where they’re going. Not a big deal, but simple enough.

2) Have an option to show object names. Or make Ctrl click an option to ping or not.
We can turn on players’, mobs’, and NPCs’ names but not objects. Objects being gatherables, things we have to pick up for some objective, and things we can interact with in general (ie siege weapons). It’s annoying trying to hold control to spy an object from farther out only to find out your skills are not working because you’re just spamming chat.

3) Change WvW’s Badge reward system.
I want badges for real effort and not this seemingly random drop rate we have now. I’m saying make it like one badge per player kill, one badge per Doylak supply kill, maybe two for supply camp commanders, three for tower bosses, 4 for keeps, and 5 for the castle. You could even give badges for killing walls and gates, that’ll get more out to siege. Take them off the average guard, mob, and puzzle chest. Then add more uses for the Badges outside of armor, weapons, and the Gift. Let us buy blueprints and buffs with them. Ideally we’d be rid of the Badge drops altogether and just have it like SPvP’s Glory, a direct experience like currency gain.

4) Add incentive for losing servers in WvW.
I don’t know what or how really. The winning server gets to collect the orbs to gain buffs to help ensure they keep winning. I know the object of WvW is to get and hold (made apparent by all the upgrade options), but I’m tired of seeing servers all but give up just because they’re losing. It needs something to encourage the tug-of-war that it should be. Note that I say this from a server that keeps winning, it gets annoying for both sides of the coin.

5) Add more Legendary gear.
I want armor! That is all.

6) Enhance SPvP
I love me some SPvP, only get gets old real fast. Only a few maps (three?) and one game type? Come on! Give us some Capture the Flag, straight deathmatch, siege capture/defend. And give us more maps to keep it more interesting. After we have a much better base set, I wouldn’t mind seeing maps/gametypes added with the other updates/expansions.

WvsW Badges of Honor

You laugh at my quote where I state that you need to work for your gear. Why? You don’t counter it in any way. But you do say that it still requires 1850 badges for full gear, and that will take time, so you’re just prooving my point of view.

You don’t have to work for your gear. For WvW gear, you can ignore helping your server and just run jumping puzzles and farm mobs (guards are still mobs). Guild Wars 2 has the mantra of equal gear for all with no grind for it. Why should WvW gear (which has no WvW specific bonuses) be different? 1850 Badges is a relatively low amount, in my opinion, and should be just as easy to get as say running a dungeon for it’s gear.

Anything in WvW can drop badges you say? I have not noticed mobs drop it yet for me. Only NPC Guards and players.

Outside of guards and Doylaks, I’ve only really killed the oozes in the jumping puzzles and I know they can drop them. It’s still an incredibly low rate, mind you.

If you can get 50 player kills monthly, then you are not really playing WvW. WvW is what I play in this game. I don’t want it to just be a place where fresh 80’s come in to play for a few days to get top gear, then leave. I want a community playing WvW and commiting time to learn and work together.

WvW has nothing to do with gear. WvW is about the constant sieges and the push back and forth. Unfortunately, it seems it’s push back and forth for a couple days, then a server gets ahead and the others all but give up. If anyone is just in it for the gear, good riddence to them. They’ll be quitting the game soon enough anyway because they’ll have all the gear and be crying there’s nothing left for them to do. Again, the achievement was just used to show how kill credit is awarded.

Most servers have raids you can attend every night. Even though I’m on a server that’s not doing well overall in WvW, our raids are open to anyone wanting to participate, where our voice-chat is streamed online so even randoms not in the guild can listen in on orders. We might not be winning much, but we’re having great fun whenever we raid, and we welcome as many players as possible to join us.

I’m on a server that ends up dominating more often than not. It’s just not fun. The other servers get reduced to trying to “ninja” supply camps and farming guards. But we all jump down that supply camp and recap it in as little time as possible. There’s just no incentive to have fairer PvP. I get forced in to farming too. I have to do the jumping puzzles and Champions just to get Badges because the only real fighting is taking place right outside the other servers’ base camps and there are just so many of us fighting for the kills, I just don’t get that much credit (and for the credit I do get, I get very few loot bags for the chance of Badges).

All that just to say that I want badges for real effort. Then add more uses for the Badges outside of armor, weapons, and the Gift. Let us buy blueprints and buffs with them.

Imagine being in a raid attempting to capture a point, which is defended by a raid from another server. If everyone received a loot bag for kills they took part of, you’d receive a large amount of players more interested in looting during fights, than actually fighting.

Loot spawns at your feet for everything you kill in WvW. Just hitting F from time to time doesn’t deter from the fighting. I’m all for getting more people out to fight, even if they’re just after loot. They would be bodies, doing enough damage to get kill credit, which would in turn help the rest of us pushing for objectives (and not just after loots).

You don’t get loot for every kill in PvE, why should it be different for PvP?

I used the Monthly as an example for a reason. In order for you to get kill credit for those achievements, you have to do a decent amount of damage. It’s not just hit the person a couple times and run off, like people “tag” mobs and events. It also takes more effort to kill another player then some mob, and thus should be more rewarding. (I also didn’t say PvE kills shouldn’t have some kind of loot on every kill. I actually think they should, but that’s not this thread.)

You state that you feel it’s random if you get a badge of not, I state that in my opinion it’s not. I usually get badges when taking down keep lords with my group, but then I do a large amount of damage on that single target. If I only hit a player once, I know I won’t be getting badges, nor loot bags. But whenever I see I do a large chunk of damage to an enemy player, I receive loot bags, and very commonly do they have badges in them. If you still feel it is completely random, then I don’t know how to convince you, but this is the experience I feel I’m getting in the game.

No worries. I’m also in the boat that Magic Find doesn’t work. It could just be the game hates me. Loot is random. As you pointed out, it’s the same for PvE. Badges are the only real reward that shows you helped in WvW, yet they seem to be the least common drop.

You do get rewards in WvW. Attend organized raids, and you’ll see your karma go up rather quickly as you complete events all over the place.

Do as much damage as possible to as many enemies as possible, i.e. AoE, and you’ll see a lot more badges drop, that you use to purchase new gear.

I’m sorry, but you can’t demand that you need an immediate reward for killing another player. You need to work for your gear here.

I wouldn’t mind seeing more reward for WvW PvP. Right now you have to be in full sieges and be taking over the map to see the most reward (Karma and coin). Badges are so random. I’ll get two from killing a guard and a gray claw from killing a player. It seems more like luck then work. They need to add more loot bags for killing players. If I can go out and get 50 player kills (monthly), I should get 50 loot bags. I’m not saying they all need to have Badges, just that kill credit should equal loot bag. Even if they changed it so that one player killed equaled one badge, it’s still some 1850 kills for the 80 set. I’d say they remove the Badges from the puzzles and normal mobs though. Right now anything killed in WvW can drop Badges.

Honestly, I’ve had the one off mob here and there be killed and have another respawn instantly. I’ve even pulled one mob and as that mob is coming to me, it respawns a twin for me to fight. Those are bugs.

The only constant problems I have in Orr are with the Acolytes and other players. Acolytes seem to aggro from miles away and then call all they’re buddies as they run to range. The other players seem to think it’s better to just train the whole map just so they can get every gather node. I’ve died more times to picking up someone else’s train then to any kind of respawn rate. I have seen times when the respawn rate seems faster, usually that’s due to something happening (even, active statues, etc).

I bet 100g right here that Anet locked it on purpose. It’s not broken.

6 pieces of siege can cost up to 6 gold if you get lucky. By doing puzzles you don’t spend money. No gold sink. No gold sink = Gems getting cheaper.

Better cough up that 100g. Why on earth would they lock the door for the Borderlands but leave the Eternal Battlegrounds open? You can easily get more from the one EB chest than all three BL put together.

As for this bug still going on: WTF indeed. I’m tired of seeing “New Build Available” then a small note saying it was just “general maintenance” and nothing was updated. Seriously, what are you all doing? Apparently fixing bugs are not maintenance.

General assumption is that it’s time and kill rate activated and they only real way to “reset” it is to not play for a while. Some say just changing zones for a while is enough. But, as mentioned, the specifics are unknown. And the DR affects both the quality and quantity.

At what point can I no longer see the level 60 armor?

Background: My 80 sees only 80 WvW gear and my 39 only sees 60 gear. The difference in price is some 400 Badges. If I want to go for just the skin, I’d want to save the 400 Badges (most the amount needed for the Gift!). So when do I have to stop leveling the (currently) 39?

It’s not naive to be okay with a flooded market. I didn’t say it was a healthy market, just that I don’t care if it’s flooded. It’s a game. roqoco.4053, you’ve posted so much BS it’s hard to find WTF you’re referring to. You type about tagging mobs in events when it has no reward that Magic Find would effect. People tag for Karma, not loots. You type about being naughty. Using something we’re all given access to isn’t being naughty. Magic Finders are not demanding more pie, non Magic Finders are being stubborn and refusing to adapt. Want more pie? Use a bigger plate. “But I don’t want to sacrifice ease of carrying the smaller plate, everyone should be forced to use smaller plates!” Then make more trips. As I see it, I’ve made my dollars elsewhere and I’m okay with paying Magic Finders to lug them larger plates of pie to me.

In conclusion (and I’ll be off the thread for good /goodriddancetome), there is no game-breaking going on by people using Magic Find, only people who think it’s “unfair”, “greedy”, or “naughty”. Either suck it up and realize that it all evens out in the end anyway or.. not, I don’t really care any more. I’m off to eat some pie off the biggest plate I can find!

EDIT: Sorry couldn’t resist, but when I read: “Well we don’t all agree on the existence of the devil. But I think we can agree that if he/she does exist then the world would be a better place if he/she didn’t.” I couldn’t help but edit this post. How many book/movies prove this false? Mmmm PIE!

On a serious note: In other, more competitive progression games I’ve just never seen the point in worrying about who got further faster. Here I feel we were just given everything too easily and I’m left wanting more.

Again, I’ve made more than enough (currently about 1/4 way to a Legendary at that) without Magic Find. And by how cheap one can get to over 200% Magic Find, I don’t think it’s as big a “problem” as you are making it out to be.

I would urge posters to read the economic arguments in the thread before posting, along with Strill & Threat Level Zero’s posts, otherwise we will just continue to go round in circles. All the arguments made here have been answered previously in the thread and miss the important points, which are to do with the effectiveness of the reward system and the health of the economy – not one person’s anecdotes about obtaining legendary weapons.

I bolded the part you must have missed. That’s not an “anecdote”, that’s fact. Go check the Trading Post right now. Magic Find gear is neither more expensive nor cheaper than the other stated gear (day to day fluctuations taken in to account). If Magic Find was the end-all be-all game ruiner that it’s claimed to be, then there would be a huge demand for such a spec and that demand would be met with higher prices.

Another economic point you clearly missed: More people with Magic Find, the more the market gets flooded, the cheaper things get, the less people without Magic Find have to spend. I see no problem with not having to spend money on Magic Find to spend less, and save more over time.

There is supposed to be no competition for gearing (stated by devs, not just my opinion). So, again, what real advantage does the Magic Finder with triple (or more!) your gold got on you? You might just have to spend a little more time playing the game the grind way. OR you could play another way and laugh (as I do) at all the grinders.
