It does feel a bit weaker but I think the longbow damage is still okay. The real issue is our poor greatsword damage. 3-4k maul on light armor? really bad.
I also recommend every ranger just reroll to mesmer permanently. After 2 years of being trash tier what makes anyone think anet will ever improve this class?
The patch notes are so vague as well:
“Beastly Warden: Fixed an issue that allowed players to taunt targets that should not have been affected.”
What the hell does that mean? What are targets that should not have been affected? Is taunt still unblockable is the question I’m mostly wondering?
While I don’t completely disagree with many of the suggestions on that list, it is very disappointing to know that the top players have such easy communication with the Anet devs while the rest of us can’t even get the simplest answers from them on their own official forums.
Actually it would go up to F6, because the pet auto attack isn’t necessary. The F1 command already does that.
Good point, f1~f6 is not much different from f1~f5
Donnu why Anet have the impression of rangers are all idiotic and incompetent to control basic stuffs like that. It’d make ALOT OF PETS more VIABLE!
Example:
1. Boars = on demand knockback
2. Bears = on demand endure pain for pet
3. Birds = on demand swiftness.
4. Lizards = on demand blast finisher
5. Dogs = on demand knockdown
6. Moas = on demand heal
7. Felines = on demand burstCmon Anet, stop treating us like idiots and make ranger more viable!
This is really what ranger needs to become great in PvP. Engie gets another f5 for elite, thief gets an f2 for more control and of course ranger is overlooked as always.
Rangers aren’t even wanted in PVE. There is basically no place for ranger right now except to 1v1 side nodes as Condi .
You have some good ideas, but honestly we already have had so many suggestions on how to fix spirits that goes on for pages and pages. What we really need are the devs to listen to us and fix them correctly. In my opinion, they have actually made them even worse after patch.
Oh, so now we can filter out Stronghold and Conquest.
But what about Courtyard? Courtyard is definitely not conquest.
Courtyard uses a variant of the basic Kill Count rules. Why can’t we filter that one if we just want to play that mode or avoid it altogether for a while?
You can already do this in ranked queue.
I believe the main problem is that the damage coefficients on our weapons are really bad. So while all the stats got buffed most of the other classes greatly improved in damage, plus most classes now have much better survivability with the new traits. Meanwhile, the ranger longbow and greatsword damage improved slightly but is really no where near the level of damage we need to compete with other power builds. Most people say that ranger is sustained damage, but who really cares about sustained when the new zerk meta has become burst or be burst. After patch I have started ignoring longbow rangers in team fights because I know their damage is pathetic compared to thief, mesmer or warrior. Pre patch, longbow rangers were a huge threat in damage and needed immediate focus.
Anyone have some thoughts on how to run celestial effectively with might stacking?
The only combo I could come up with was to use zephyr’s speed together with offhand torch and drake swap. If I used strength runes and battle sigils I was able to keep a consistent 10-15 stacks on myself, but that means I had to give up beastly warden which I think is a real no no. I can see ranger benefiting from the celestial amulet a lot, but without might stacking I just feel generally weak with it on.
It has nothing to do with builds. It’s the damage coefficient on our power weapons. While other classes are doing up to 10-15k bursts, we’re stuck at a 8k max over 2.5s channel. Quick draw also doesn’t really let you spike more than before. What kind of idiot would stand there and get hit by a 5 second rapid fire or 2 mauls back to back? I find quick draw more useful for utility skills rather than damage.
Maybe it’s just me but does anyone else feel like the LB/GS weapons are really underwhelming?
I see warriors doing 14k 100 blades and 8k rampage auto attacks, mesmers are dealing crazy damage from mirror blade + shatter, and meanwhile my rapid fire is 8k TOP if they eat the whole channel and my maul is only 4k TOP. I feel like the damage on ranger is pretty bad right now forcing me to go condi.
Traps have always been useless in higher tier pvp for the exact reasons you mentioned: pets, clones and simple dodges constantly trip them. I honestly don’t see any difference in trap viability after patch.
I typically go condi ranger and I really think the attractiveness of ws, nature magic and beastmastery outweighs quick draw. Sure, a double split blade would be nice but an on demand weakness blind and taunt for f2 from beastmastery will be very strong. It will actually make our pet mechanic quite powerful in pvp, in my opinion.
Have a set of gear with centaur runes on them and carry a focus. That’s probably the best way to move around in open world pve.
Honestly, how do mesmers survive in pug matches when there is an opposing good thief? Of course no pug team will peel for the mesmer. I feel like any time there is a good thief around, the game is basically a 5v4 since it only takes seconds for a thief to kill me. Maybe it’s a l2p issue, but please help me out if it is.
Anyone else feel like ranger got shafted with the new Shared Anguish? Everyone else got something useful such as fear or reflect, and many are on a 30s cooldown. Ranger got a 60s cooldown that makes our pet even more useless than it already is. It would be way more useful if they merged this with hide in plain sight and put it on 30s cd like most other traits below.
Mesmers get to reflect the disable back to the source. (Master)
Necros get to fear enemies when disabled. (Master)
Engi drops a smoke bomb when disabled and/or gain protection (Adept)
Eles get shocking aura (Master)
Thief refills endurance and breaks stun (Master)
Guardian gets aegis and retal (Adept)
