I’ve thought about this for a while and I really think the only viable option is basically longbow + staff or axe/torch + staff. This is mostly because greatsword does very low damage to kill anyone with it. Sword/axe might also work but sword is not the best pvp power weapon, especially compared to lb. In the end, however, as cool as the staff skills are, I feel like it doesn’t dish out enough damage to be relevant outside of a purely support role.

People WAKE UP!

There are 2 other traitlines the ranger can pick, its old utilities and another weapon (if staff is actually needed in the first place).

What is stopping the druid to run spotter, frost spirit, maybe glyph of empowerment too, and S/A or warhorn as a second weapon set? Have that with ballanced armor stats, and you have a strong healing class with insane group support…

Just because the druid line and staff is all about healing, it does not mean that druids will just stand there spam heals…

People can’t seem to think outside the box and see how to apply the druid outside of a pure healer role. Just because it has a lot of healing potential doesn’t mean it won’t be powerful in a zerker or condition damage role. Eric has got it right, it gives the ranger class all of the utility it needs to step outside of it’s current comfort zone and be more than simply a DPS class.

All people care about is DEEPS, but honestly this druid spec opens up the door for a druid to be a very high skill cap class. The combination of celestial form, pet control, supporting allies, and battle in general will really distinguish the great players from the meh ones. The animations are also still very good…. do you really want some over the top bullkitten animations like the daredevil?

Playing diverse builds only gets you so far. Once you start playing with some more skilled players then you are basically looking for the most optimal build you can get from your class and then there is generally only 1-2 options to choose from.

You actually bring up some good points about Glyph of Tides. However, I’m not sure how I feel about making the pull default outside of celestial form. I really like the idea of the knockback over the pull, in general. It has strong uses for escaping and for kiting if you decide to keep the bow. However, if you decide to swap the bow for a melee weapon then the pull is better than the knockback, I guess.

Most of them actually buff the class mechanic instead of replace it with a few exceptions. So whatever it’s meant to be, they will definitely be stronger than the vanilla class for the most part.

I agree with the OP, I can’t understand where this weapon belongs. In PvP, it is too slow and in PvE reaper shroud offers so much more: constant vulnerability application and permanent 25 might with 100% crit chance. I wouldn’t want to camp great sword in PvE at all. Instead, d/wh has way better life force generation to stay in reaper shroud longer.

Team queue should be limited to unranked only. There is no reason a premade with more than 2 people should be allowed in a ranked queue, especially when leagues will come.

Let me say here that I think the changes to embrace the darkness are great for 2 reasons:

1. If I’m facing a condi heavy build, I prefer to save my energy for pain absorption to keep resistance uptime high.
2. If I’m facing a zerk heavy build, then old ETD is kinda useless but this new one will be great at spamming torment on mesmers and thieves with generally low condi clear.

Overall perfect change, in my opinion.

Seems like you didn’t spend much time using Mallyx during BWE2.
1. With Demonic Defiance keeping resistance wasn’t too hard. Use Pain Absorption, pop EtD, demolish them and if the fight went too long you switch legends, cleanse, go back to Mallyx and repeat. I found very little in the way of a condi build holding up to that.
2. Although definitely less useful, it was far from useless as you had self applying conditions from your own skills that fueled EtD. Not to mention, even zerk warriors and the like apply some condies on their normal attacks, which then fueled your EtD while you enhanced the damage with your own stats.

Not sure why felt you needed to start your post with an insult instead of commenting normally but whatever.

Regarding your comments, sure you could apply your self condis but they did not use your condition duration and were pretty weak anyways. Second, if you are simply relying on demonic defiance together with EtD to survive against a condi build then you will blow all of your energy from EtD very quickly and most likely die in your other legend unless you back off. Staying in Mallyx is pretty important against a condi build.

Since torment is the main damaging condition for Revenant, I’ve been thinking about adding functionality to a trait or maybe changing the minor 2 in corruption to increase the base damage torment does while not moving while not increasing the while moving damage to help it become more of a viable option in all areas of the game. What do you all think?

It’s a good suggestion but unless torment is going to do as much damage as burning, I’m not sure how viable condi Rev will be in PvE. In PvP, this will be almost useless since everyone is always moving. Only useful on downed bodies I guess. All in all, it will probably never be taken in my opinion.

The skill is amazing as is right now. If you prefer a block while moving then take offhand sword. It’s really a matter of preference now: mobility while blocking or healing while blocking. I can see the former being better for zerk builds and latter for celestial.

He probably doesn’t play revenant and now that Mallyx can’t fight back against conditions is loving the idea of steamrolling us.

I did play revenant, a lot, actually. And conditions are a joke in mallyx as long as you take demonic defiance. The elite consumed too much energy to really be useful anyways, I felt, and unyielding anguish was simply a skill to troll people with but never actually put out enough pressure. Now UA is a great skill, especially against d/d eles. Sure the condi copying nerf did hurt a bit but mallyx is still very strong against conditions because of the crazy amounts of resistance it can apply.

My 2 cents: I actually really like the mallyx changes. Previously, it wasn’t good at applying condis at all and now it’s great at it. Plus, the displacement field with unyielding anguish was really bad. I like the new change. Overall, really great changes, Roy.

I’m kinda curious if this is still in development ‘cause it’d be a cool feature to have. If it isn’t, I won’t mind ’cause I know you guys have lots of balancing work for the revenant to do, especially after BWE2, and you are doing a great job at that.

Can shatter mesmer kill a D/D ele?

Is this even possible after the nerf to mirror blade? I can burst them down to about 10% health and then suddenly they are able to basically heal to full in water attunement a few seconds later. Afterwards, I can’t really go toe to toe with them on point and greatsword auto’s don’t do enough damage to even bother kiting them. Not sure if anyone has a consistent strategy to kill these guys as a shatter mes but please share it if you do.

I completely, totally disagree. Granted there isn’t a great deal of Hard CC for Revenant to use, in group play, removing 2 stacks along side what your team/group would be removing, almost makes it OP. If it weren’t for the lack of Hard CC’s I would say it is OP.

Thinking about it more, depending on how taunt affects stability, it could very well be OP in some group settings.

Considering that most sources of stability pulse the boon every 3 seconds, removing 2 stacks is kind of underwhelming since it will come right back in a few seconds. Instead, if you’re able to rip the whole stack off then you’re given a lethal few seconds to deliver your combo.

Skills that disable foes (stun, daze, knockback, pull, knockdown, sink, float, fear, launch or taunt) remove an additional stack of stability.

This trait feels a bit weak to me for a grandmaster. How about making it remove all stacks of stability instead of just 1 extra one? I feel like removing 2 stacks of stab per CC is not going to have much of an effect.

How is it that you’re getting aoe quickness from Facet of Chaos? If I’m reading it right, it gives aoe super speed and not quickness. Without this secret quickness source, Mallyx and embrace the darkness should give more DPS than Glint.

Shiro/Mallyx has the biggest DPS output, I believe this will be the PvE meta. Herald is only useful if your group lacks a PS warrior and ele/ranger, in my opinion, but you’re giving up a lot of damage by staying in glint.

Nope, Glint/Shiro will be the default in PvE with Glint/Ventari for times you need the projectile bubble. Glint has some very interesting PvE interactions that you’ll just have to wait for our guide to come out to hear more about. =)

Interesting.. I believe Knox had a post not too long ago stating Shiro/Mallyx sits around 19k DPS so I’m certainly interested to see how Shiro/Glint will exceed that without embrace the darkness.

This is fair as is. Revenant is really strong right now, so it needs some weakness. If you’re not willing to pickup Mallyx then beware of condition builds, otherwise zerker revs will be unstoppable.

I disagree, this skill is incredibly bursty especially in PVP. I can basically 1 shot a thief with this skill on a zerker revenant and they can’t do anything because of the evade. A buff is the last thing it needs right now.

I think the energy cost of this skill is way too high. It basically blows all of your energy since you’ll be swapping legends often in a fight and leaves you nothing to do but auto attack. What’s the point of stunning someone when you can’t do any damage afterwards?

Style is right though, thief and mesmer really only shine in a good team. In those cases they can really carry. For solo q, however, I find the best classes are the ones who can 1v1 well but can also escape 2v1’s quickly. This let’s you contest points without your teams help but without feeding when you are +1’d. For this reason I think D/D ele and Warrior are the best options.

The trait line and Facet of Nature are useful, but I will probably never use shield or the legend. Shiro and Mallyx are just too good to replace.

They would need to add a new legend in that case. Since all of the traits have been developed already, I don’t see it happening. That’s OK though, most classes have at least 4 useless utility skills while most of the revenant skills are great so I think it’s good as is.

All of the weapon skills already have cooldowns, so what is the point of them consuming energy too? Thief utilities don’t consume initiative. Will it really be that op if the weapon skills don’t consume energy?
