It’s funny to see people say we’re a mindless zerg when we took your entire borderland in 15 (10?) minutes on reset and both our servers were in a queue there.
How did maguuma fall from T4?
We’ve said it before, but t4 is where things get really rough.
After a long time (1 month?) of coming 2nd in yaks/mag/ebay, we finally pushed ebay to t5 and then won mag/db/yaks. The next week, ebay came with a vengeance for being sent down and made sure we got 3rd.
I know Ebay has lost some guilds (good ones) to mag, but I still think they’re pretty strong. They’ll be a real test for Kaineng.
Why won’t you people hate us. Remember that Maguuma has GOONs who Jesse Cox has expertly reported are all hackers using reliable sources.
The flame ram’s function is to make us not go insane waiting for reset. We were bored 11 days ago.
Kaineng’s going to win hands down. WM used to be on my server, and I’ve seen them work; they’re a step above the rest. As far as I can tell, they will pretty much firewash the whole tier and probably crusade along with others in their alliance all the way back up to T1. I am, personally, not expecting much of a fight here.
t1 in kain’s current state? err.. okay. WM is great, but when you reach real competition, 20 people cannot be in the 7 locations being hit/needing to be defended. That means the rest of the server needs to get off of their back at some point, and you’ll reach that way before t1.
You’ll probably get BP. They’ve had more PPT than DR lately even after DR took a lead over them during the weekend.
I don’t understand the servers posting the recruiting threads. Why are you recruiting? Is there value in tiers/ranking? You want to move up in tiers so that you will get to recruit some more? The process doesn’t end until you’re the top of t1, and even SoS is now posting a recruitment thread…
If you’re losing ranking, why don’t you just go with it? You’ll get more even matches without forcing yourself on a recruiting treadmill that doesn’t have a point.
Subtle recruitment attempts above in a thread telling you to ignore recruitment attempts.
on DR’s watergate attempt – preclear the siege with a small group before a watergate golem attempt to avoid swords. One ballista speeds this up.
Check if an upgrade is running (it was) and snipe yaks for a bit to let the workers drain the supply to zero. If you are found out, there will be no supply (there was a lot) to flash build a lord room defense.
Take the all quags before you go in (all 3 quags and island were neutral when you threw up contested) to potentially laze someone away from checking contested, and even if they do check, they’ll potentially check 2 other keeps before finding you.
Devote 2-3 guys to kill repopping guards and tell everyone else to stop auto attacking everything to avoid orange swords.
I’m not sure if everyone forgot but we fought Kain for at least 8 weeks..
You’re underestimating how much they’ve changed if you think it’s the same kain. WM really are beasts at tactical play and engagements enough to change an entire timezone. I spent a week over there playing with them, and I can’t wait to fight them if they come up to t4 or we drop to t5 again.
Their group movement/positioning is so good that their current tier has people accusing them of being a single botter. It’s a pleasure to watch.

Next week DR might look to start targeting Kain from the outset. You will lose the nights, possibly worse than vs Mag, but their daytime crews are quite inexperienced. You and Ebay together should be able to pressure their day guys quite a lot and spend the nights playing the “die as slowly as possible” game playing keep triage. It will definitely be a time to learn some keep defense tricks.
I’m really interested to see how t5 does next week.
How Mag works isn’t too difficult, and it’s a lot less :effort: than it might seem. Basically we try to get everyone in the server in one mumble to have fun, and then spread accross different borderlands in different channels. When things look “real” (as in not 10-15 random guys doing a futile attempt) we swap channels, ask for assistance, give the waypoint timer etc.
If it’s a super real threat like DR’s various 5-10 golem pushes, it’s all hands on deck and you’ll have 30 people there within 2 minutes. Sometimes we kitten up and don’t notice because no one is there at all like SM a while ago, but usually we know what you’re attacking on all borderlands.
I can see why it might seem like spying when we don’t put up resistance through 2 gates and then suddenly appear at the last second, but it’s really not.
This wall exists at every tier and gets larger at each one, t5 is just the most noticeable. t4 is a different ballgame, and t3 even moreso. The t2/t3 servers that are held back from not enough night time coverage have more night time players than t7 has daytime players. The entire population throughout the day on a t1 server in a single borderland would by itself make a t6 server.
I get the impression people like winning and don’t like losing, no matter the tier. So people winning in lower tiers get sad when they’re losing in higher tiers even though they’re stronger than they ever were.
This isn’t really true. Mag is built on losing. When you lose 40-50 times, you start to play for fun. Then because you play for fun and have an active public community, you play more often. When you play more often, you get better and end up winning some. When you win some, people say you only play to win.
The custom arenas will be a godsend for practicing specific matchups and builds, but the gear limitations in spvp simply don’t translate to WvW. Condition builds all together are a different beast because con. duration food is bananas and changes how you do traits most of the time.
Right, if you’re using Confusion a bunch, duration becomes a big deal. Sharper Images is the only condition damage delivery that ignores duration.
I was under the impression that all attacks performed by the illusion don’t receive the duration, which includes staff illusion’s WoC. Staff illusions WoC is insanely powerful to the point where a staff illusion is stronger than almost every phantasm in a lot of condition builds.
Mantras are fairly unique in how they work. You cast a spell to get charges, and the cooldown isn’t activated until you deplete all of the charges.
The first fight you have goes great, but now 2 mantras are half stocked or down to 1 charge (if spec’d for 3). You now need to burn your charges on nothing or find a random mob before you can activate the cooldown and stock them up again for the next fight. It’s a tedious thing.
I’m thinking maybe getting 1 charge for each cooldown/2 seconds out of combat with a minimum of 5 would be a nice change. The highest cooldown mantra is the daze one at 30 seconds, so each 15 seconds ooc would generate 1 charge up to 2 untraited, and the lowest is 1 second cooldown, so it would get 1 charge each 5 seconds.
The hidden tedium of refreshing mantras between encounters is a real issue when it comes to incorporating mantras into your build or even running a full on traited mantra build. It’s one of the prime reasons that it’s thought of as a dueling or 1v1 spec, because getting small, frequent battles will have you artificially gimped on certain mantras.
Yes. My mesmer almost hit 2000 condition damage.
Byut condition duration is better most of the time in terms of pure damage.
For mesmer that’s debatable, because our illusions inherit only condition damage and not condition duration. It comes down to the prime source of your conditions, length of fight, what you need to be hitting harder, etc.
I think 90+% of goons that do wvw aren’t in a goon guild at this point. Reping once a month to do PvE doesn’t count.
That’s a moderately rude post.
Kaineng’s daytime is kittening terrible. It’s numbers running to the neareset red object they see, the community has no idea what’s going on and doesn’t care to know. When they get dominated they post paragraphs about Honour and some haikus about not giving up.
No one wants to win past t4, and we probably won’t. I hope we’ve made it clear to the bandwagoners (not the small organized guilds) that Maguuma isn’t a winning server. Maybe they’ll jump to DB.
You’re talking about a bunch of people that literally just transferred here to win. Those aren’t Maguumas, they’ll be gone by Friday. Who cares about those people?
Yep, the true mark of a Maguuma players is how we lose, not how we win.
We have got a few decent guild transfers, new faces in mumble, it’s really quite lovely. It’ll be interesting to see how DB holds up to our expanded ranks after we shed the glory chasers we gained over the last couple of weeks. Hopefully it’ll be a closer match than last time at least.
Hoping DB moves up and we can get fa/mag/yaks. Daddy FA always taught us new things, so that would be fun.
Waypoints are currently the most powerful upgrade in the game but there are a few issues.
They are only inactive when the defense quest is active, are you guys planning on disabling them slightly longer than the defense quest to allow attackers to keep the defenders from spawning there just as the defense quest lapses?
For example under the current system I can count down on voip the defense quest and spawn in everyone right as it hits zero and before attackers can reflag the keep.
This is definitely a bug. I’ll see about leaving the rally points disabled for a few extra seconds after the event has completed. That way it just stays disabled if the event starts back up.
It’s a bug but you shouldn’t change it. If it does get changed, waypoints will simple be contested 24/7 and pointless. The argument against it is that it puts a 3 minute timer on your taking a keep before reinforcements – if you have to change it, maybe you should make it 5 or 10 minutes.
The current dynamic of waypoints working this way allows defending servers to put counter pressure on while being attacked before having to come back to defend. It makes both attacking and defending more interesting because there’s always going to be pressure and counter pressure.
I got the idea BP and Maguuma double teamed Devona last week but this week you merge servers and all BP transfered to Maguuma kinda too much imo
Part of our alliance is to get BP to zero points. Inventive subterfuge.
The bunzy signal has been lit.
I just got farming for a new build and was looking to get back into WvW myself. But it’s boring outnumbering the opponent. Looking forward to competitive matchups in T4.
But, But I have it on good authority from all the other Mag posters that we in fact outnumber you.
Just sayin…
But seriously, I understand your sentiment. happy farming (if there ever is such a thing).
The numbers are in our favor now, but they weren’t last reset. The thing is, people need to see where we’re getting the points. We’re basically constantly attacking DR because they’re the weak link, and BP is holding a relatively stable PPT. If DR was as stable as BP, it would be pretty even. We’ve poked into BP a lot and they’re better at defending and sieging their stuff back. Not worth the hassle, so we just annex DRBL/eternal.
I don’t mind the transfers if they start participating. Join mumble, start calling inc/numbers/servers in team, respond to people in team needing help. Maguuma does well because we all work together, so as long as you new transfers do that, you’re welcome to stay.
Also as long as you understand that we will be beaten. Maguuma has gotten first place like 5 times, second place 43ish times, and 3rd the rest. We aren’t going to stomp other servers once we get out of t5. We have zero ambitions for going beyond t4.

Dear DR, please make sure morningstar is commanding for you. I hear he has a very good strategy that will crush our morale in the first 10 hours and win the match for the week.
No but seriously don’t transfer to maguuma please. I hear Kaineng is a nice place try there.
yes please focus on Maguuma. We really didn’t enjoy last week and are looking forward to fighting on two front in our home BL and Eternal. Just don’t kill invalid password, he needs to sleep too.
Very high survivability. Popular choices are pure survivability guardian, warrior, maybe super bunker mesmer. Basically you need to be able to run into a zerg with your zerg following you. Dying is the worst thing that can happen to a commander because it halts all movement, and hurts people’s morale when the blue icon is dead on the ground.
I’d personally say guardian is the best commander profession.
I think BP belong in t5. There’s always room for improvement, but you guys reflected a lot of our attacks. We hit East Keep hard a lot, but you had good response times on pulling people from Eternal to stop us before we downed the inner. You also had good response to a few garrison rushes. I don’t know how eternal went because I never go there, but I know our commanders liked to kick you while you were being distracted in your home BL.
Think of Bunzy as Bunzy and not Maguuma. Threads get Bunzied in every match up.
At the same time, DR needs to get real and realize that it got landslided because they made a ton of mistakes.
Ex: There is no reason in this world that we should hold west keep that often, that long in your home borderland. You failed over 15 sieges that I helped defend, and a lot of that was because you had no idea what to do when the outer dropped.
The score got that way from coverage, but you made hundreds of weird decisions that I saw, and instead of chalking it all up to population, you need to rethink what you’re doing.
If you’re more comfortable in t6 that’s fine, because kain will be here soon to take the red/blue slot. If you want to stick around, though, you need to stop thinking everything got this way from coverage.
i saw that too, they were one of the best guilds, skillwise, on emermy bay. wonder why they left them.
check ehmry.com for the rundown. It’s nothing really drama based.
SM are good people and I hope they will enjoy Maguuma’s WvW community.
I have the same CPU as you and roughly the same quality of card (6850) and don’t have issues, but I also play on the lowest settings. ~40 fps everywhere, and only dips to ~7-10 in really, really big fights like 40v40 in a garrison room.
If you want to upgrade, then what people say is right, get a 4 core ivy bridge.
tis ok mag will be back up in this tier in place of YB with in a couple of weeks imo
Don’t really care what tier, but Kaineng is the wild card. If they’re even equal or close to Mag, which is possible because of night presence, t5 will be locked for months.
DR – stonemist isn’t always worth it if you are tunnel visioning. You gained the 35 but lost the last half of your borderland, losing points overall for something you can’t hold.
I think it’s time to admit why we spend to much time in DRBL – When the red and green are sprinkled together it reminds us of Christmas.
how are they in wvw? lots of mixed feedback. I feet that if i were to ever play a ranged class itd be a ranger because they can switch to GS if someone gets close. So just wanted some more feedback outside of just my server.
Mesmer does more ranged damage, more close range damage, has more survivability, more utility, and doesn’t rely on a bad AI pet to contribute 25% of their damage. Ranger is only moderately effective when played very defensively, and even then, they’re just food when targeted by two players because of the lack of solid escape options like stealth, invulnerability, blink.
There’s a reason why Thief/mesmer/ele is most of the WvW population.
War Machine moved from SBI so looks like SBI is going to be taking a nose dive. Will be interesting to see if War Machine’s night capping is as bad as DragonBrand.
War Machine will be educational night capping, which is better than any night capping we’ve had previously.
Crystal Desert were the best night cappers. Hours and hours of badge farming as they literally just threw numbers at everything. I can remember one 4 hour session defending our garrison against a CD team that had a queue at 3am PST.
One of the people manning the inner SW cannon called out in /team “I got knocked off the cannon and can’t get back on it. I need someone to take over”
“Why? Is it glitched?”
“No, there are too many bags around me to get back on it.”
What I said better than anything we’ve seen, I meant for ourselves. Against DB they literally had 50 man zergs that auto attacked our doors down and we couldn’t stop it. Wasn’t really interesting or educational, where WM is very interesting and educational when they start rolling. I predict we’ll need to learn new counter siege spots.
When I was on SBI, War Machine really wasn’t that big. The most War Machine players I ever saw together at any one time was maybe 10? The recruiter for War Machine International was pretty much never online (and I waited a whole week). I’ve seen that account online since WM left for Kaineng but definitely their international recruiting stalled for a bit. Or maybe they just didn’t like my resume. :|
They’ve become very active since the transfer. The Korean contingent had ~30 following Jang Gun in korean prime time on Kaineng.

if you stand back and take a look at the predicted server points come reset. Then although Mag are going to win this battle – BP and DR are taking a bite out of their server rating. Ultimatley meaning that Mag is being locked into this tier.
The only likely change to happen shortly is the arrival of Kain who may upset the apple cart and cause 1 of these 4 servers to bounce between tier 6 and 5.
Strategically MAG is loosing ground, BP and DR are gaining
There’s no losing ground with Maguuma. We’ve been t4/t5 forever. Seriously, I think we have the record for the most stable server in the game since launch. We don’t care about moving up, and neither should anyone else. We like to improve, but you’ll learn that improving is not always tied to moving up in rating. WvW is a giant coverage check.
Kaineng is 100% dependant on transfers from what I’ve seen. WM is great and can build a solid base each night, but Kaineng’s daytime is abysmal. They like to brag that they’re just like DR, so it won’t be an issue. They’re right, they’re like DR, but it is an issue. They had zero communication, zero strategy, very few commanders, and most commanders just ran towards the next visible enemy object. It was really sloppy stuff. Maybe WM International can turn their daytime crew around.
What’s more likely is that they’ll pick up a lot of transfers because people love transferring to servers with a solid night presence.
It is 10 times more fun when you wipe the Mag zerg on one side of you and then the BP zerg on the other side.
A DR zerg has wiped a Maguuma zerg? This is news to me. I’ve been on your borderlands since we decided to annex it.
Maguuma has been t4/t5 for over 50 matches. To assume we’ll keep dropping is…
Borlis Pass hasn’t made payments to any of the maguuma commanders yet, so I think our alliance may crumble. BP please hurry.
That’s 11PM-4AM EST on a workday. :P
So? “morning hours” is usually used to refer to Euro primetimes. We took your BL on an american prime time.
Next time we go for 0.
What is the point of posting this? You attacked and took a BL which had VERY few defenders with a huge zerg. I came late as you were taking Cliff. I saw your numbers. If you expected us to hold you back you’re wrong.
DR has always had a low morning presence. Very low. Kain took advantage of that often just like you have. So you posting this proves nothing. Only thing I think is relevant here is that we had far inferior numbers against an organized “zerg”. Yes you are in the lead but now i know why. Ive never been on so early, but if this is what you do every morning its no wonder you’re in the lead. Whether its taking advantage of our low numbers or you are just better I think that attacking a bl that can barely defend itself is pretty low, especially against that size zerg you guys had.
I was there all evening when we decided to take your BL, and for the good of your server’s growth, you need to stop lying to yourself about population.
You had equal numbers when you broke in to west keep and failed 10 times (maybe more) and showed you had no idea how to take a keep that was upgraded.
You let camp teams give you the run around the entire time. You gave up on keeping south /sw camp out of our hands after about an hour when we were supply starved the entire time.
You gave us SW/SE tower uncontested.
You lost East Keep almost uncontested while you had a 13 man group taking SW camp (why would we care about that without being sieged?) a ~10 man group outside west’s downed wall piddling about, and the rest didn’t notice until the inner wall of EK was down, which was too late.
I don’t think DR is bad, just that your server lacks communication and coordination. You guys should try to work on that. I don’t think 8pm-1am PST is morning hours.
