The thing about mesmer sweeps in a place like SM is that you need to know where to look. I wouldn’t put it past yaks to know some of the good spots in inner SM.
There’s this weird phenomenon where the lower ranked a server is, the longer the average post is. DR recently moved up, so let’s hope they shed the essays soon.
It doesn’t sound like griefing to me. You want people who build siege you don’t approve of to be banned?
10 copper on the new transfer megaball Kaineng
I don’t agree that we should be able to whisper opposing forces. Anonymity suits the format, since the goal of WvW is to attack an entire server rather than one individual.
You’re making a leap here and I don’t see the connection. If we saw player names entire servers would target one guy? Why?
If you want to talk to a singular opponent you do have the option to invite them to your party, and it is up to that opponent whether to accept your request or deny it.
A reason people are requesting this is because, if history is any indication, it’s not intended and will be removed. Also only about 2% of the userbase even knows how to do this, so the amount of communication is way lower than it should be. Formally introducing a way to talk would make people aware of its existance, and making it easier would make communication way more common.
I’ve been on the receiving end of nasty /whispers before the report function was fixed, and let me tell you no one should be subjected to flaming or trolling just because they win or lose a battle. Block is not the solution. The game is fine the way it is. Stop the poor behavior before it happens.
Wow. You are saying people should be banned from talking to each other because there’s a chance that it could be rude? That’s a really weird way to think of interaction. Getting 1 out of 10 rude whispers involves hitting report if you care, and block if you don’t. If it’s really so scary to people, then just have a toggle to hide/show name in WvW.
Going to be honest, going by your post, you sound pretty paranoid about people in general.
Thats a weird comment given that I am actually in Australia.
Not that it matters that you’re Australian, but I was talking to the guy that quoted you. Most players simply don’t think any work done by oceanics is legitimate, which is silly. Most of the yaks whines in this thread are good proof.
I would be more worried about opposing people whispering saying hey give you a gold to keep us updated on where your people are going. Offers like that to new players or poor players would be to hard to pass up. Imagine the amount of paid spying would be going on. 1g to just say hey they going bay or hills north would be an easy pay day. Especially if your bl hopped to inform them.
I see nothing wrong with this. Names should be shown in WvW.
More like it has been discussed to death in the past and everyone is bored of seeing the same arguments over and over again.
The way to get something changed is to keep talking about it. Anet has shown to cave to popular opinion many times already.
(edited by Pinko.2076)
We’re talking about the NA coverage only. YB has excellent oceanic coverage which is why DB nullifies us.
Sorry, but you don’t get to just pretend that 16 hours of the day doesn’t exist in wvw.
It’s 24/7, nothing else.
There’s this weird mentality on most servers that Americans are the only legitimate people. Oceanics I guess should just not play GW2 since they don’t have their own servers.
Nah I mean the Norn. I don’t know any babby asura commanders that can use hammers.
You can just talk to the enemy through the forums
I mean. Their account name is right there <—Just whisper the name and speak to them in game.
How you build cross server alliances against a greater foe.
It would be nice to see the nametags of people that post on the forums in game, though. It would put the egos to test. Again, WvW will survive on the community aspect of it. Who really cares about winning anymore? People just want good fights, and knowing your opponent adds to any fight you have.
I really hope Anet reads these threads and considers changing the name thing. Here’s a middle ground if they think people need to be protected from human interaction: make showing your character name/ID an optional toggle in the hero panel. I would definitely turn it on. I’ll take anything that adds more human element to WvW.
I can’t enlarge it, but it looks like an invalid password alt.
Names should be visible across servers, and right click -> whisper right along side it. WvW survives on the back of grudges/communities, and disabling any form of identity or communication doesn’t help that.
I do a lot of sPvP and I only remember a single time where it got nasty. Compare that to the hundreds of times its gotten nasty in cities/pve, and I’m not seeing why we need to be kept away from each other in WvW. I’ve talked to enemies 4-5 times in WvW using whisper bugs, and its always ended up being positive.
I think anet has this weird idea that making everyone anonymous means no one can hate each other, but that’s the opposite of how interaction works. When you can talk to someone, see their character name, and get used to seeing them, it humanizes them and ultimately makes things less hostile than fighting nameless hordes.
I will further predict that Kaineng is better than the servers currently in T5
Define “better”. I’m on Kain right now and 90% of their playerbase has no idea what the hell they’re doing. It’s basically 2 and a half guilds with pubbie filler right now. They’ll eventually rise to tier 3/4, but that’s because they’re going to start a transfer snowball pretty soon.
That’s surprising. I thought yaks/ebay would know all of the spots after a month with Mag. Then again, there was a thread on yak’s forums where they thought one of the most basic spots was a wall hack…
Wow… very impressive team work & the numbers both BP and Mag can put in the Field… seems DR is in need of some Education on increasing our WvW Population…
To Begin… when two Level 80 Characters love each other very Much… they Share a “Special Hug”… the Result is a “Zergling” *
The “Zergling” is then release into the World… the “Zergling” being weak and disoriented… will often congregate together in the “Herd Mentality” referred to as a “Karma Train” * seeking protection in sheer numbers… as they roam aimlessly with little purpose… hopeing only to not end up as a “Loot Bag” and reach Maturity…
1 footnote *
Zergling noun (word origin) from the Latin: {Scaled-Up-icus } : 1. Low Level Player attempting to Level-Up playing WvW2 footnote *
Karma Train noun (word origin) from the Latin: {Loot-Bag-ious} : 1. Group of Loot Bags lead by Mindless Commander
What the hell is this?
If BURN spends their time mostly on fire based puns, then I think they’re great people.
People will plug their servers, but basically any server t3 and up is going to fit the bill. The rest comes down to what time zone you play in.
Bunzy is right – night capping is never an issue until it’s being done to you. It’s funny to see YB finally start complaining when they’re the victim after benefiting from it for 2 months.
Not that I have anything against Yaks. You’re good people, but you need to cut that night capping complaining down. Remember when Mag beat db/yaks when we have without question the lowest oceanic community?
Just get used to playing triage vs large servers like DB during the night.
there is a small ledge on the north wall IN the water at bay that can be used to put down catapults and such. Like I said, I didn’t report anything to anyone, I told people and they came and destroyed them.
Isn’t that just a classic ninja spot? I don’t think ninja catas are exploits. When you see white swords, you send someone to sweep.
Yes, Maguuma and DR were doing the catapult exploit.
What is the catapult exploit?
You really shouldn’t play that rumors of exploits game. Screenshots/video or it doesn’t matter.
just curious for all the GS mesmers, what weapons are you using for swap set and why?
In pvp – Sword/focus. Focus 4 is a strictly better disable (knockdown/stun) and a position manipulator than pistol 5. Longer range (900 cast range on both, but curtains pull is ~600 range, making the effective range of your stun/yank/knockdown/interrupt 1500 range) and a free escape/kill based on the geography (walls, cliffs) on where you’re fighting. The swiftness/slow doesn’t even matter. You should not use this ability for swiftness/slow 99% of the time in combat.
Then we come to pistol 4 vs focus 5. This is the berserker shatter thread, so pistol is just not good. The power coefficient is terrible on pistol 4, and if you’re running the spec in the title, you don’t have the pistol trait to abuse the finisher bug (if it still exists?) Pistol is better for condition or low power builds, but focus scales so much better with a power/crit build.
Focus 5 takes time to learn to use, but you can either use it as a deterrent to entering an area, force someone out of an area, or you can learn to combo with either sword 3, focus 4, or both. One you learn yank ranges on focus 4, stopping what someone is trying to do and forcing them to be yanked into a focus 5 while rooted with a sword 3 and an optional sword 2 will not only stop them from what they’re trying to do, but it forces them to burn one or two utilities.
Offensively and defensively, focus takes more work but gets far more results than pistol.
Downed State in general is fine. Its a strategical element both for offense (killing enemies) and defense (rezzing enemies).
What is strategic about the downed state? Please tell me why the game is better with it compared to without it. There is a reason, but I haven’t actually seen anyone here make the argument for it, instead insisting that the downed state is some strategic mind game.
It boils down to a utility tax that favors the majority.
I remember when I was 16 and also thought the world revolved around me and only what I saw is what happened. Really terrible times, much like when I see Ebay posts.
You realize the exact same thing happened in Yaks borderlands yesterday, right? EBay love sure love that victim card. Learn to defend your borderland half as well as Mag and maybe it won’t happen to you.
We may be last on the scores, but we’re the only server to not lose both east and west keep simultaneously in NA hours this week. Ya’ll slackers need to build some arrow carts.
Tough talk for the team in third place.
Maguuma is doing the Ehmry Bay strategy. Go to t5, pray we get transfers, then act smug when we get 2nd. I learned that one from Lord Son Tezu’s Art of Bore.
There is also no sarcasm detection or humor from Ehmry Bay.
Ah yes I do apologies for that however my excuse is that I’m British, stiff upper lip and all that you know?
Tally ho now Pinko let’s have less sarcasm and go smack some more Yak’s no?
I can’t smack the yaks. We’re in an Alliance with them, so that would be rude.
There is also no sarcasm detection or humor from Ehmry Bay.
1) you can see the names of opposing players
2) you can whisper opposing players
3) everyone stop being babies afraid of human interaction in an MMO
Bit of brainstorming, maybe we should do this with every weapon.
Thinking about what feels write and wrong with this weapon.
Based on a PvE point of view:Spatial Surge: Fine.
Mirror Blade: Sort of fine (a bit random, but this seems to be part of the class design). Would like to see the last bounce of the sword to explode, damaging targets in a fair area (would help a bit with tagging and aoe in general) and maybe grand a random boon to nearby allies.
Mind Stab: Very limited use. Would prefer to have an attack like the new Shatterer, that moves away in a line from the Mesmer hitting everything on it’s way.
Phantasmal Berserker: Well, looks sort of OK right now.
Illusionary Wave: Very limited use. Damage is too low to tag anything (even in full zerker gear and glass cannon), most elites and bosses are immun. Maybe it should have an additional short leap (teleport) backwards so it would not be a total waste of a skill in most of the challenging fights…Just my thoughts. Would also like to hear the PvP point of view.
Spatial is amazing. It relies on zone control which is what Mesmers do best of any class. at ideal range it’s the strongest low risk pressure we provide. At mid range it’s so-so, at close range it’s bad. You should have an offset s/f or s/p for close though.
Mirror Blade is one of the highest raw damage over time attacks if you consider the cooldown. It’s 5 bounces if you’re spec’d to it, and hits 5 people under the right conditions. On the flip side, using it at close range is 6 stacks of might which is great as a transition to your off set for close range. It’s secretly the strongest GS ability.
Mind Stab is rubbish and should never be cast unless you specifically need the boon removal. We’re a zoning control class, so stationary casting is the absolute last thing you should do.
Berserker is potentially amazing, but still solid on single target in PvP. High DPCT.
Illusionary wave is amazing, for the same reason mesmers are. It’s pure zone control. Used optimally, you’re instantly setting the fight back to 1100 range. It’s vital in the ele, warrior, thief, guardian matchups.
Greatsword is as good as staff after the illusion Wind of Chaos changes even if they’re almost opposite in their roles. Spec dependent of course, but if you’re not running offensive shatter, then you’re playing the class wrong.
But I do find it funny how much ire is directed towards us when mesmers have somehow fallen off the radar.
It is my personal goal to bring mesmer QQ back into style.
You found a nice build in the niche of crappy mesmers. However, it takes 0 skill to stack confusions and have your opponent kill themselves because of it.
It doesn’t take skill to actually have awareness and take the finger off the trigger of yer glass cannon for five seconds. Yeesh.
Try reacting properly to your opponents moves, for once.
Most people in WvW don’t even pack stun breakers and you expect them to not press a button?
Yeah that aint you pinko. I know who it is.
I sold that account. Blocked everyone on my friends list before I did. Going slow with this character for the February update.
But I do find it funny how much ire is directed towards us when mesmers have somehow fallen off the radar.
I’ve seen maybe 1 mesmer on ebay that knows what he’s doing, two on Maguuma, and none on yak’s. I don’t know why people don’t get the profession, but it’s hands down better than thief/ele when played perfectly.
The downed state is literally a numbers check on utilities since it’s just trading 1 vital skill per finisher. That’s the “depth” and “complexity” of the downed state system. It’s a system that was designed for PvE, and for a really, really good reason. That really good reason doesn’t extend to WvW, and is actually a detriment to the potential that WvW had.
Simply adding a system on top of a pile of systems does not mean it’s contributing anything worthwhile, so I wish people would stop pretending that removing it is inherently a loss.
I disagree with your thread title. I agree with your first post. They distinctly different, but the downed state is also dumb as hell.
It’s a soft cap on small scale success
The problem isn’t with this assertion, the problem is with the assertion that this is a bad thing. Like the 5-man AE cap, the downed state helps check skill and ensure that, at some point, numbers are more important.
Numbers would be important because it’s more people trying vs less people trying. More offensive potential vs less offensive potential. More utilities to throw vs less utilities to throw. There already exists a numbers advantage in basic Bodies vs Bodies, so I don’t understand why people want both an advantage AND a comeback mechanic in case they squander their advantage.
Let’s remember that the removal of downed state is NOT the removal of hard ressing. This essentially means that a soft cap will still exist, but it will be ~3-4x harder to reach because of the in combat res speeds.
Let’s also remember the impact this has on the meta of glass cannon builds. I play a glass cannon, because I take advantage of running with a smart squad, and if I do go down, it’s way too easy to get back up. I’d be way more likely to tailor another utility slot and maybe ~3-4 slots to more defense if I didn’t have a giant soft idiot proof pillow below me. I don’t care about the glass cannon meta, but a lot of posters in this forums hate it, so maybe that can persuade some people.
I am a Super Skilled Dude and I support removing the downed state in WvW. It’s a soft cap on small scale success, and anyone who can’t see that doesn’t grasp how basic systems interact or is irrationally afraid of change.
Starfleet Denial because of a single certain Asura mesmer.
I hope you mean me and not that kitten do it to it. Did he have kitty skulls on his shoulders and emote over bodies?
T4 is the gatekeeper tier where people either learn how the 3 server dynamic works or post about being teamed up on and give up after a week. Ehmry bay is the Little Brother server. Bunch of Luigis.
I wish I didn’t read such ignorance this early in the morning….
Are you mad that I made fun of Luigi? Let’s be serious, he’s a little dweeb.
I’ve been a mesmer since release, and I think bunker mesmer is quite terrible for the reasons outlined in my other post. I see huge use in it for zerg busting, but that’s because most people in a zerg don’t know what’s going on, and most players don’t know how to deal with bunker mesmers. They are a great distraction, but again, that’s only against the 95%.
The reasons you said would force people to attack a bunker mesmer are actually the reasons I would call a different target. You’re doing jobs that other professions do ten times better, and not doing the one that makes the profession worth paying attention to. Mesmer mantra healing is really, really bad if your purpose is group support.
T4 is the gatekeeper tier where people either learn how the 3 server dynamic works or post about being teamed up on and give up after a week. Ehmry bay is the Little Brother server. Bunch of Luigis.
There’s this problem in WvW where people build to beat 95% of players, but the 95% of players are terrible and you could beat them with any build. I think pure bunker builds fall into this trap. In reality you should be aiming to beat 100% of players, even if it makes your victory against the 95% not as easy as it was before.
I say this because if we’re talking about good squad vs good squad, a pure bunker is pretty ineffective. We will see your profession and weapon set, your food choice, and then test the waters. In about 6-7 seconds we know you’re not worth the trouble and kill your friends, because your pressure is no threat. Balancing survivability vs pressure is basically group PvP in a nutshell, and going too strong toward one or the other is a mistake.
