Hmm, I rather got the impression you are one of those poor misled fellows who spent to much time in the company of the human bookah who -unfortunately- use the name of our science for some rather pathetikittentle games while they mostly die young from an influenca because they spent to much time litting some candles after midnight on a foggy graveyard.^^

There is a Skill Point on the far right side of Metrica Province about half way up the map in which you are questioned by a hologram of Oola, an asuran necro from GW1. She goes on about the relationship she sees between golemancy and necromancy. If you’re lucky you can find a crystal by killing some jaguars near here and take it inside the cave that’s right there. There are some researchers waiting to get inside Oola’s old lab but need that crystal first. The events that unfold inside are very interesting if you like asuran necro lore as it’s one of the few pieces of such lol

Just a side-question: Do only the jaguars drop the crystal? I tried to get it several times but it never droped.

It depends on the perspective. I don’t play humans. So a goddess as I would call the pale tree too who is around and taking part in the worlds actions is more powerfull than one who is only assumed to be able to do.^^

You think they could do that but do they? At least the pale tree is there tangible and doing. The gods could be dead by now, as we don’t know much about their

The god can be as well weak and having no power at all to fight the dragons and hide in the mists because they can’t do anything.^^

No you didn’t. They did not retroactively add them. You didn’t lose 100% complete, but you didn’t have those waypoints.

•Uncontested waypoints have been added to Cursed Shore and Straits of Devastation. Players that have already achieved map completion will retain it without having to discover these new waypoints.

^^ Can’t remember tbh, but I thought they were just there … anyway I think I explained enough why I personally would like to have at least one WP per map to travel.

That’s not necessarily true. When they added new waypoints in Orr I had them also already discovered without having been there because I had the map 100%.

But I think it futile to discuss the way those waypoints work if we are talking about an idea. There is quite alot of things which are not entirely immersive and which will force you to think out an explanation.

This makes no sense.

How do those other characters know information just because someone else learned of it?

I don’t think anyone’s asking from an immersion viewpoint. They’re asking from a gameplay veiewpoint.

Laziness viewpoint.

You’re right. This terrible, welfare-gamer generation!

In fact, running near waypoints to unlock them is awfully lazy, too. ArenaNet should implement a lengthy, detailed quest chain that needs to be accomplished for every single waypoint in which your character has to attend one of the Asura Colleges, develop plans for a gate, gather the materials to build it, engage in research and development, and then finally construct the gate.

That’d show this lazy generation how a game should be!

Sweety, I’m playing PC-games since 1994, don’t exagerate. I think I explained why I would like that idea. As for the immersive point – why shouldn’t the characters of my account be able to leave notes about the whereabouts of waypoints if they share an entire bank?

I like that idea. I think it would be enough if at least one waypoint in each zone was unlocked. I’m mostly playing together with my friend and because we got different zones dicovered with different chars each day starts with checking out several chars until we found two matching ones to play together. The other alternative is that one of us has to run through some zones until he reaches the other one.

So often enough one of us only plays with his/her main because it’s most comfortable but that’s not really helpfull when it comes to discovering with an alt.

This is again a matter of communication. We don’t know much about what is possible, or how the system is supposed to work. I don’t want to know details but I would like to know what I can expect from that system if it works properly.

The second thing is we could provide way better feedback if we were asked the right questions and got a few more infos, like what should be the current status, what was worked on how is it currently supposed to work. How is the perception? Does it work as intended? Which problems remain? Atm one day it feels like it’s working, the next hour everything seems to be completely messy again.

Hi my dear Anet!!!! need more evidence that megaserver was bad idea???? forget the megaserver, it is quite simple: “we were wrong, sorry. We will back to the previous server method”.
Think of the players (customers) and dont destroy the game

What about those players that have been complaining about empty maps for almost two years then?
Should they not think of them? Why are you more important than those people?

Question is: Am I less important? I play on a low-populated server and you could guest if you wanted more people around. I’m not totaly against the mega-server but your argument goes in both directions.

Well, for light and medium clothes it easy (for me). My Mesmer is a tailor and my thief is a leatherworker. When I destroy a piece of armor a the pattern is sent by a bird to them and they make a copy for all their sisters and put it in the wardrobe.

Astralporing, I do play on a smaller server and I’m not that happy with it either. It sure has some pros but I see alot of cons too.

I think it highly depends on how you play and what you expect from your gameplay, how much it influences you and if you like it or not. Until now I could guest to a fuller server when I wanted to have more people around. I had a choice. Now the megaserver is deciding whats best for me and I have my doubts that a software can do this for all and everytime.

I am not so much critisising that there is no answer from a developer but I do not like how the whole procedure was done. I wish they would have given the people more time to adapt to the changes and that they would have tried to make the system work properly (not only from a technical side) before they spread it everywhere or at least to get a note why they had to abandon their former plan.

Just to say “oh it works so fine, we implement it everywhere” sounds like “we don’t care what you think” for me, even if it probably isn’t entirely true.

It would be hard to have any reliable data to prove or disprove how popular or unpopular this update has been because in all MMOs the majority of players never use the forums.

But that goes in both dircetions. I’m just sick of beeing called a “vocal minority” by some people while by a strange logic those people posting on reddit or where ever are said to be those who express a majorities opinion. Like you said I don’t think any of us users can claim to know what everyone thinks. So why not leave that argument aside entirely.

Again, what kind of response should they give? Because there are people loving this update. There’s are two threads on reddit right now saying that Orr is fun again, with well over a hundred upvotes. There are people in game talking about how great it is to see people in zones again.

Again, my experiences are different. I haven’t met many people who love it (one to be more accurate). So to pretend that people (like a majority or nearly all people except for a few “whiney”) all love it just doesn’t seem to be true.

But they actually do. Quite simply they need to be included because it does not achieve the main goal to re-distribute server load and fill in the empty zones with players. A lot of cities are empty or extremely low population except for RP players most players only enter cities to craft and do the personal story. They can now use those resources that were allocated for empty and low population maps to more population maps.

Well, I never tought that Lions Arch was empty. So first they get rid of the main-hub to have an excuse to merge all the cities because they are so empty?

So you better tell your customers in advance: “hey we take some time to implement it. Before we try it on a few parts” and if they don’t like it you hurry even more just because you hope they shut up after a while?

In the case of Megaserver, the product was delivered as documented ahead of schedule. That seems like a success.

I had no influence on that particular product at all. I didn’t order it. So for their “schedule” and I have no doubt that they see it that way it is a success. But for their customers? They may care for their product do they really care for their users?

They care. This is their life. It is their work. It is their play. They live and breathe this game just as much, if not more, as many of us.

This is what gets me so upset. Saying that they don’t care is just beyond comprehension.

Maybe they dropped the ball, or failed to account for important information, or didn’t follow through. But they don’t care?

Ridiculous.

They might care about some major things. But from how they reacted in the past I am very, very certain that there will be people who fall off the table. If the biggest rage is stilled they do not matter anymore.

I encountered some weired stuff but anyway I thought “hey they got plenty of time to polish it until it gets released everywhere”. Haha, I was pretty wrong. I came back from my easter-hollidays and everything is turned into a Megaserver. They try to change a few things but I have my doubts that they care enough to make it likeable for everyone.

The only instances that I think people are getting pulled from their server communities to fill shards is when they are on a High Population server like Tarnished Coast or during the Boss Events even then I think the system is trying to find the best second option for you. Tarnished Coast went into overflows in some of the main cities BEFORE megaserver.

That’s the theory. I play on a rather low populated server and when I was in Gendarran Fields yesterday I got placed on at least three different shards (logging in and out) and tbh I didn’t have the Impression that one of those shards was populated with people form my server (maybe very few). Since the megaservers have been enabled, time after time I’m finding myself sorted into maps with no sign of folks from my home server, my admittedly small guilds, or friends-of-friends, or folks and guilds I’ve become familiar with to any degree in the past. Even been having multiple instances of being put into different maps from current party members, with nothing happening when one of us tries to join the other. I play on Tarnished Coast for the community, atmosphere, amusement over immersion from widespread roleplay, friendly folks. Have hardly seen hide nor hair of that community for days, now, be it in cities or out in maps in the world. It’s frustrating. It’s extremely frustrating, and it’s quite hard to even make acquaintances when no longer running into folks interested in puttering around the same places or hitting the same events anymore. While some maps are certainly more lively, hostile attitudes and no longer being able to consistently, casually run into folks who were playing for much the same reasons I had been is rather quickly wearing away at my interest in the game. (edit: Nice to be able to have people become familiar, and to be able to see those familiar tags, y’know? Rather than eternally cycling through new names.)

Yep, I’m not a roleplayer but atm it feels like the cosy little pub I used to visit regularly got replaced by a mega-disco where I don’t know a single person. I got to admit that I feel a little lost.

The problem seems to be that there are 4 official languages supported by the game and now people of all those languages get mixed together expecting their “official” language to be official for that megaserver.

I am a native german too and I play on an international server but I have never encountered much hostility towards other languages used in chat, while english is used to be understood by the biggest possible audience. But I think people are maybe a bit more relaxed because they know what to expect when joining an international server which isn’t the case for those who just get mixed together without having an influence on which server they get placed.

Edit: Btw I wouldn’t be all to happy if I got placed on a german only speaking server too even if this is my mother tongue because I choose an international/ english speaking server for a reason.
