winters day final event reward

in Wintersday

Posted by: Pirlipat.2479

Pirlipat.2479

Please do not give away such valuable rewards again. I’m not saying that there should be nothing but it is somehow shifting the perception of the event from beeing a great event which you want to join for the sake of beeing great into an event which you join only for the reward you gain afterwards.

I got a precursor in the last event and it honestly didn’t make the event more or less fun for me. I hope more people have the chance to get a rare precursor in this event too. It (a higher chance for the most valued items in the game) is a good reward for a once-a-X event, imo.

If the event is fun, it’s fun regardless of reward but why not give people a once-a-X opportunity at loot that would basically be otherwise unobtainable for most of the player base?

Well I do not like it because it is feeding jealousy. Those who could not attend the event for what ever reasons and could not loot the chest did not get such a chance. And I think it is in a way forcing people to take part in the event to have their chance even though they might not like it. Not directely ofc but still in a way. And it does not only go for the precursor item but the bag that everyone got is pretty valuable for me too. Ten gold is alot for me too. And people who did not get that are somehow excluded. Thats just my opinion.

Maybe it’s just different if it’s not a one time only event, no idea…

Something a level 80 character would find useful enough to keep, but not at the level of being game-changing.

I am not saying there should be nothing, ofc not. Just yeah something within limits.

Wintersday Chest / BLC Speculation

in Wintersday

Posted by: Pirlipat.2479

Pirlipat.2479

Well I do not have a problem with the chests if they contain something I could buy directely for a higher price. So I got the choice to buy the item directely or to gamble a bit and have a certain chance to get something cheaper. This kind is ok for me. I do not like it if I got no choice but gambling.

And for me it is not that I have to voice something it is just that buying some lotterystuff is not attractive for me. So I simply wont buy something like that.

Do longtime players get free items too? (Wizard Hat; Merged)

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Pirlipat.2479

Pirlipat.2479

I see no problem with the item being exclusive to the current buyers. Those that bought stuff earlier still have access to exclusives that newer players won’t get – anet hats, mad king book, witch hat (which i doubt will be returning next year), horns, etc.

This.
I can in a way understand that it is annoying that there is an item which is unique but which you can’t reach without buying the game again, but then again you got some unique and special stuff already and something is simply not unique or limited when everyone can get it too. It just does not seem fair to me blaming the company for this.

Wintersday Concerns About the 'Feeling'/Atmosphere

in Wintersday

Posted by: Pirlipat.2479

Pirlipat.2479

I only have one concern/gripe with the GW2 version of Wintersday.

The GW1 Wintersday revolved around the battle between Grenth and Dwayna, god and goddess of death and life. Now, this is pretty smart because it’s reflective of the world. The end of winter and beginning of spring, the end of the Season of the Colossus and the beginning of the Season of the Zephyr, moreover, winter also represents the death of plant life and spring the rebirth. Just as seasons, nature, and the calender ended (died) one cycle, so another came to life.
It’s a pretty smart concept and coincided with our Christmas while still being fresh and creative.

My concern is that GW1’s entirely unique view on something typical has been replaced with something not so new. In GW2 Wintersday is about a toymaker going across Tyria, spreading joy and cheer. Not to mention handing out presents to all the children of the world.

Actually the concept you mentioned for GW1 is even older than christianity itself. ^^ Maybe not two gods fighting, but all this starting the circle of life again.

So how is killing things Jolly?

in Wintersday

Posted by: Pirlipat.2479

Pirlipat.2479

I think the whole question is strange. The whole game is at a good part about killing “things” and the whole game is supposed to be fun and wants to provide joy. Well you can say that all of this a creepy concept but why did you buy and play this game then if you can’t get over this.

After all it’s still virtual things noone gets hurt. They just stand up again right after you killed them. (In some areas even to fast)^^

I still don’t get the point. If you make less money due to farming nerfs everyone else is making less money also. As a “dedicated” farmer you should still make way more money than any casual who doesn’t care for farming. So all your effort is still keeping you ahead. You will still reach your goals faster. Better farming oportunities will only keep you at the same level compared to the market than before.

The only thing I don’t like about all of this is that you can gain more money from farming Fotm (can’t tell myself, just what i heard.)

Hello,

when I played another game in one year they had a special unique charity-mount for sale. For each mount they sold they donated a share of the mounts price to a charity organisation.

I would really love to see something like this here. It doesn’t have to be a mount just a special skin or something like that. I think it’s a bit late to implement it this year, if they haven’t planned something like this already, but maybe A-Net could keep that in mind for next year or so.

Forum users ARE NOT the minority

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Pirlipat.2479

There is simply no point in talking about this majority/minority thing. None of us neither the complainers nor those who are happy with something can claim they are talking for a majority of gamers. I think it’s outrite arrogant when someone thinks he knows what someone else thinks, if he doesn’t express it.

All this “blabla there are only negative people on the forum” or “blabla everyone is unhappy” doesn’t bring us anywhere. It is only used to cheapen someones opinion to make it look like his complaints are rubbish. Or it is used to make your opinion sound more important than it actually is.

So talk for yourself, leave the “silent Majority” aside, provide good arguments and let A-Net or the other posters decide what to think about your ideas.

Is the game too short?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Pirlipat.2479

Pirlipat.2479

Personally, I feel like the level cap was too small, plus the fact EXP needed is so little…and that’s been the primary factor as to why people reach level 80 so quickly, regardless of whether they rush there (like a typical WoW-style player would), or take their time (like I did, and reached 80 within a week).

Sure, the game is more about the journey than the endgame like many other MMOs, but the journey is so short! I come back for the monthly events, but as I look back at the game, I think it would have been better if the game had a level 100 cap, while the highest level areas reached 80 or 90. There would be a lot more incentive to explore the map to finish those last 10-20 levels.

Short or not short is a quite subjective thing. It took me about 200 hours to gain lvl 80 and now I still got loads of content in front of me. The journey isn’t over once you hit a certain lvl. Of course it could take longer to gain Max-Lvl but in the end it changes nothing I think.

I feel too powerful as a lvl 80 going into a low level area

What I don’t like about this blog-statement is that it’s pretending like the whole issue isn’t there. Even half a sentence on that issue would have been enough for me but it’s nothing…

There are other channels (twitter, facebook, gamesites, personal blogs, support tickets), there are no miraculous channels… my point was most people don’t bother to be heard at all but that ANet should consider the ones that do valuable customers to communicate with (wich is not the same as doing whatever this very vocal majority/minority demands)

their press release does seem to ignore the problem but I can’t imagine them mentioning in every press release “we’ve got this great new thing – some people liked it.. some didnt…”

Erm, you make it look like all of this is a minor incident which is limited to the forum and to no other channel and it is not. It’s not a skillpoint missing or a skill beeing screwed it is something that at least looks like a major design shift.

Maybe one day you’ll understand that even if you put all displeased forum posters together, you don’t even amount to 5% of the people playing the game.

You miss my point. How do they know that people are “excited” then? Could be as well that people are just bored to death by the new content. So what is the source for their opinion? The surevy? Well why didn’t the survey ask for peoples opinion on this then? Is the forum useless because the opinion spoken out here is such a tiny small minority that you can completely ignore it? Well if so, why do they ask for feedback here in the first place? And from which channel do they get the impression that everyone is excited about everything? (I do like the content update as well thats not the problem)

Note I’m not asking they base their decisions on an opinion spoken out on the forum but at least I would see a little sign that they take the opinions voiced here into their consideration.

Is GW2 A Different MMO Now

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Pirlipat.2479

Pirlipat.2479

I think I should repost what I posted some days ago:

Well, i think its not the problem that the new gear adds slightly higher stats. The problem is that it’s opening an road to progression. Until now you could do whatever you want as often as you want and when you want, without having to worry that would miss something. Suddleny there is something to miss. And it’s not that you miss a special one time experience but that you miss something which could influence your future experience in the game.

So you have to make decisions wether you keep your slowmode playingstyle or go on and take the challenge to progess. So it is not so much about if you will actually miss something but about having to decide if you want to take the risk to miss something later on. And some people do not even have that choice because they do not have as much sparetime they would like to spend in the game. That’s what is worrying for some people.

I think that is the problem many people are having and I can only hope that A-Net is going for compromises to keep tyria open for everyone.

I’ve made my decision not to go for progression (which was indeed never a question for me) and to stay as long as I can have fun. I’ve made this decision in other games before and I thought I would not have to make it here but with the new gear beeing added and no real clarification about what will go on in the future the game has turned into an MMO like many others. And thats is what is sad for me. (Still kinda hope this is only a big misunderstanding somehow )

What becomes way more worrysome than the actual new tier is that everyone suddenly seems to grow the fitting mind-set for this. Suddenly people start to discuss if it is ok to exclude someone from a group for not having the proper gear. Some feel forced to run the dungeon over and over again, some run away panicing.

Hey, they introduced a new tier I do not like it and I’m not happy with it but somehow many of you guys seem to be brainwashed. After all it’s you who decide how to have fun and what you like to do. Don’t let a new tier of gear scare you away from doing what you like to do. I’m not saying that it definitely will have no consequences in the future if you do so, but don’t let some items change your own gaming habbits.

Well, why not? Don’t you have fun doing the dungeon? Do you think it’s so awefully boring that you deserve something in return. Do you bring any money to the company by doing so? (Not by spending cash in their shop I mean).

Well you know the slogan with which they advertised this game: “Our time is now” NOW not when you optained the new gear not when you put “hard work” in it not when you’ve spend hours and hours in the game. As someone who has just started the game you will still have plenty of disadavantages in WvW for example and even on 80 you will still be worse than someone playing that game for a huge amount of time. And thats enough I think.

And btw I don’t mind doing something for my gear. I decided to craft my exotics and this will take me quite some time but after all I decide how to have fun in the game, I decide how I want to achive something and I refuse to run in the hamsterweel for the next shiney gear and the next and the next…

It’s a personal effort after all , if you are a casual gamer who maxed his exotic set and have probably second BiS inslot why would you want ascendant gear for +5+10+20 stat ? Where will you be using that “hardcore” gear , once a week in wvw or the daily dungeon ? It’s the same previous mmo argument and here it comes: play harder ( work harder ) then the rest get an extra edge it’s just like in the real life or is it not ? No one is forcing you to do it you will still be competitive either way. So why cry about an extra +5 stat you don’t need and won’t use ?

I can’t stand that “work harder” stuff anymore. What exactely is “work” with running a dungeon and what exactely is “hard” doing so – compared to rl which you did. Sitting your kitten flat in front of your screen doing nothing productive is not supposed to be work. The same way you can say I’m working hard watching tv 8 hours a day. The only thing you do is consuming content you do nothing with it. If you want hard work do it in rl this is still a game after all.

Edit: I can accept your opinion even though I’m not agreeing to it but please people stop mistaking playing video-games for work.

I had this problem from the very beginning even when I was really, really fond of the game and it’s philosophy. But to be honest even if they put in stuff that I really wanted I wouldn’t buy anything atm.

I don’t see spending money in the game as an “investment” in my char but at least I have to be sure I want to continue to play for a longer time. But for the moment I will wait and see how it goes with this new shiney gear and what comes out at the end of that story.

And I’ll absorb that content at my own pace. I won’t be cut off because I will never be the only person who wants to do it, there will always be late comers, alts, other people who take their time to do the content, people willing to go back and do lower level content. (I for one do this)

And I really don’t care if they explicitly say one way or the other if it’s the last tier. It won’t change the pace I absorb the content, I don’t have to be at the cutting edge of gear, it doesn’t bother me in the slightest if X Lego Lass X is stood next to me with a Legendary sword and an ascended back piece whilst I’m still rocking my Exotics.

You still miss the point.

Reread my quotes.

And check these items:
http://www.gw2db.com/items?filter-item-rarity=8

Compare stats.

When the existing content will have been adjusted to be challenging for people wearing whole sets of this stuff, you won’t be able to do them unless you grind for ascended stuff as well.

It’s not a matter of alts or other things. It’s not a matter of choice. The difference between ascended and exotic is higher than the gap between exotics and rares, but in turn ascended is A LOT less accessible than exotics to casuals.

Um hes saying that he will move at his own pace. When it comes time to grind for it he will. Hes just saying hes not worried about the gear others have. Hes a very rare type of player that truefully doesent care what others have equiped. In all honesty his player type is normally some of the most skilled players i have ever encountered which lets him play in this mind set.

Unfortunately that won’t work.

Content locusts are so quick in devouring content that by the time he will have finished grinding ascended stuff “at his own pace” there will be divine or uber-ascended or whatever armor and the thing will start afresh.

The problem when you cater to content locusts, is that you commit to a direction that is implicitly a threadmill. Either you find a way to keep them in your game without raising stats, of if you do raise stats the first time, why not the second time they hit a wall again?

You can have your own pace, but if the content difficulty outgrows you, you are screwed.

I’ve yet to ever see a game that advanced that fast to be honest. Currently the game is so easy its an utter joke. It would take a good long time before its even remotely nearing that hard. Odds are that even your slowest players would never come near to seeing this. Not even close. That being said its silly to argue over this point. He will play the way he wants. As long as its within what the games designed around why nitpick? Kinda sounds like your doing it just to argue.

Well, i think its not the problem that the new gear adds slightly higher stats. The problem is that it’s opening an road to progression. Until now you could do whatever you want as often as you want and when you want, without having to worry that would miss something. Suddleny there is something to miss. And some people do not even have that choice because they do not have as much sparetime they would like to spend in the game. That’s what is worrying for some people.

I think that is the problem many people are having and I can only hope that A-Net is going for compromises to keep tyria open for everyone.

I still don’t understand the “Filling the gap” statement. Firstly, there was no stat gap between exotics and legendaries.
Secondly, if it was cosmetic gear, we had the unique Mystic Forge recipes to work towards as a stop-gap, like Mjolnir.
THERE WAS NO GAP TO FILL.

This is PR speak and logically it doesn’t make any sense at all. It’s somehow like you are saving money to buy a painting by an famous artist and until you have it you hang a cheesy king-size poster at your wall because its big.

To be honest their intention at the moment may be completely pure and they genuinely have no plans or reason to implement a further tier. But if they launch an expansion in a year’s time and it has some more gear in it with a difference in stats, then being explicitly ambiguous about it is their back-up. Can’t blame them really.

Well, I would put it this way. No, you can’t be a hundred percent sure, that they wont add new tiers on a longterm-perspective. But I personally don’t expect them to do it every some months. I have to say I’m not such a purist to say that there never ever has to be a slight stat-increase as long as people are not forced to gain that stat-increase to keep playing all those sorts of content.

Atm it’s no problem to run the dungeon in rares so if it stay this way and if it doesn’t add signifikant differences in PvP I can live with that. I mean did they abandon their vision at some point? Of course, I would say. Will it change everything? For me not, as long as they keep in mind that they obviously got a huge playerbase who doesn’t go for progress.

I mean if you got to grind 800 hours for a piece of gear or something like that which is 8% stronger so be it. I really hope a majority not is that insane to do it. This increase keeps people competitive in WvW and PvE who don’t have it still.

Everything is about compromises and well I think we got to live with it. Am I happy with that? No Will I leave the game for that? No. I’m way to much of an egoist to stay there and enjoy the rest of the content.

For those people telling me’d go for progression: I was raging quite alot on the german forum in the recent days, bit I think it will lead nowhere A-Net are NOT our friends they are a company.

Since I don’t play that much this will keep me occupied for quite a long time I guess.^^

Edit: As for the Ascended I’d like to add. No I personally don’t have a big problem with people having higher tiered stuff as long as it isn’t going to exclude me from further content, so adding a new tier and a new tier and a new tier every some months would definitely drive me out of the game.

This really isn’t about who’s the “vocal minority.” And it’s not about weather or not the new gear is legitimately more powerful or only slightly.

That’s really not the big picture, here.

This is about the basic gameplay standards and promises made by Anet, in the Guild Wars 2 Manifesto, AMAs, and press releases during development.

Arenanet. Don’t after-the-fact change the product that we already paid for.

Casual players…sad to say do not generate as much revenue has hardcore player/competitive players.

Do they? From my experience in F2P MMOs I would say hardcore gamers contribute nearly nothing themselves to a revenue. What they normaly do, is generating ingame-cash like gold, they are selling for shop-currency. So they are only set as a rolemodel for the greed competition to make “causals” or “midcore-gamers” spend RL-money to catch up.

They already said they didn’t want gear treadmills and they are adding them. Whats to say they won’t add another tier of gear? There’s nothing its been not even 3 months and they went back on their word, why would I trust them to keep it this time?

Also if your already bored because there’s no gear progression you think you won’t be bored after you get 3 items….? Then 4 months from now you’ll get another 3 and quit for 4 months. What the hell is the point?

I’m as big a GW fan as anyone. I played the original from the beginning. All I’m trying to do is shine light on why this rage is so silly.

This is an impossible argument, which is why I don’t understand it. You say they’re adding a treadmill. I say no, they’re adding ONE new tier. That doesn’t instantly equate to abandoning all their principles. There’s been gear progression the entire time. White —> Orange. No one complained. OMG THEY’RE ADDING PURPLE, THE WORLD IS GOING TO END.

Why can’t I just write a neutral post and not be attacked? I repeat, I understand every. single. concern. I don’t want gear creep either. But the way GW2 is structured is radically different from the raiding progression of other MMOs. Adding one new tier doesn’t change that.

Constructive feedback. Let’s make sure ANet stops here. Let’s not act like rabid badgers.

They wont stop. Once they implemented such a system and got rid of the poeple who dislike it, they can’t stop it, people will cry out for more and they will bend like they did this time…

It’s just stunning how fast a company can sell the soul of their product.

GW2 is an MMO and if it wants to stay competitive it needs some form of progression.

[Citation needed]

This is actually not the case. Stat progression is only needed to appease a certain kind of addicted player happy, who wants to be able to beat additional challenge by gaining additional avatar strength and is afraid of content that gets more difficult without being able to make it easier by additional stats.

Essentially, your argument is that Simons Quest is a better game than the original Castlevania, because progresssion.

I, and many other people, say nope.
Stat MMOs are simply one particular model, popularized by WoW. They are not the only model. Monocultures are bad.

Well apparently not enough people agree with you. If Anet thought the game was doing well and that progression wasn’t needed then they wouldn’t be adding it.

Clearly they are now attempting to attract players who are more progression oriented. Likely because they are significantly more likely to spend more money in the gem shop and there are significantly more of them then all these people who apparently don’t like progression. At least that is how I see it. If you can think of a different reason for this move then i’m all ears.

Well first of all we all bought the game. And if it comes down to this question it is me or them. I got attracted to the game by the fact that it was advertised to be no gearthreatmill, so now they are selling their loyal fan-base for some flighty WoW-Fans? And an customer who feels betrayed is significantly less likely to spend any more money or recommend a product. Just saying, I’m still hoping for the best.

They say the stats will be SLIGHTLY better and everyone is freaking out? What? We haven’t even seen what the stats on this stuff is yet. Also no old content is being made obsolete by this. It sounds like the gear is just a reward so people who enjoy the dungeon can do it more efficiently as it progresses in difficulty, which I think is a good idea. We shall have to wait and see though I suppose.

If SLIGHTLY is not a problem why don’t they make these new items SLIGHTLY WORSE than exotics?

Because why on earth would you go backwards? The game doesn’t need to be easier lol

huh? Actually the game becomes harder with worse gear. Oh ups…

Well, since we don’t know much about this new item tier I’m writing my concerns for the hypothetical cause that there is an item progession. (Only for the people asking to relax)

The point many seem to miss is that the issue about those new items is not that they are a bit stronger than the current stuff. As people said before we got a slight progression before, BUT this was supposed to be the end of gear progression (at least stat-wise). So no matter how much someone played this was supposed to be the maximum.

If A-Net bends to those people who go for “slight” progression only 2 and a half Months after release we got to ask what comes next and when? Will people get bored at christmass or will it be in february that we get the next item tier? And for what do we need it? Oh wait the current content is fine but it becomes boring eventually after having obtained those shiney ascended gear so content needs to become harder and items higher and higher and higher…

Eventually A-net will leave people behind who cant play 24/7 but who cares abouts those noobs? Right noone will. And this is my concern. Please note I’m willing to be patient and wait for a statement but these are my worries.

Well, my Asura is learning cooking and the recepies do not really differ from normal “human” food. And the NPC-teacher in Rata Sum did not mention that this kind of dishes are some “foreign” cuisine. So at least now they seem to have adapted to above-ground human-style food pretty well.

But I don’t know much about traditional Asuran kitchen.
