What level for Flame and Frost story content?

You get upscaled for both Events. I was doing them with a friend yesterday with a lvl 23 character and a lvl 38 character. We were able to do them quite well.

If the refugees’ homes were destroyed it’s only logical to head to Hoelbrak. And I don’t think Braham is supposed to be a stereotypical norn.

For Norn who can’t fight yet or anymore, yes it is logical. For the the ones that are able to fight, it’s a little out of character to just pack everything and flee. The Norn of the past wouldn’t even let those Molten Alliance guys destroy their homes to beginn with, they would rather play “whack-a-mole” with them.
And I’m talking about making Braham a stereotypical Norn (as a common trait is not a stereotype, it’s just a common trait), I’m saying that he doesn’t behave like any Norn we’ve ever seen, which I just find odd. If you don’t, then it’s good for you. But it bugs me a little that he lacks something that is inherent in every Norn. Some may have lost it through age or a traumatic experience, Braham however is simply to young for that. It doesn’t make much sense to me personally.

Attention – some possible spoilers included

I really don’t understand what you mean by saying he behaves “un-nornish”. Norn might be very occupied by their legend and they so not hesitate to fight if necessary, but they are not mindlessly killing themselfes “for the legend”. In my personal story I got constantly told, that dieing in a fight might guarantee you an awesome legend but that you should be carefull as well because beeing dead is beeing dead.

Braham from what I understand does not want to flee but he is looking for help to defend his home and his people because he clearly sees that he can’t win without help. And that’s part of the problem, that his people do not want to leave but to stay in their place.

But he is not as dumb as to go on a fight which he clearly can’t win without even trying to get some help and succeed. So he goes through Diessa to the Black Citadel (not a very safe journey with all that dredge and flame legion etc. around) and when he doesn’t get help he goes to Hoelbrak to find help. But for him it is never an option not to fight the molten legion, but he rather wants to succeed instead of dieing uselessly without beeing able to do something. They decide to go to Hoelbrak when he sees that his home is already overrun by molten legion and that they captured his people.

So I would say Norn may be brave and do not mind a tough fight but they are not dumb or suicidal. And they do not seem to mind to die if necessary but they do not kill themselves in a fight if they see other options to win.

I personally like Braham the way he got respresented instead of beeing a complete idiot who only cares about fame instead of using his brain first.

Strange enough I got more problems to do jumping puzzles with my Asura than with my Norn. oO While I don’t mind the camera angle at all.

This whole topic confuses me. Seriously. I can promise you
that first person shooters, and other games like SC2 and Rift
require MUCH more understanding of the game to play at a
good level.’

Why would you lead a crusade to dummy games down?! WOW did
that and caused me to quit after 6 yrs of playing. There are much
easier and simpler games out their, that dont require skill levels
if you are looking for a timesink to relax.

Your post confuses me, tbh. I can only speak for myself but I don’t want content to be made easier. Where did someone in this post ask that the content should be made easier anyway? But I don’t want content to become much more difficult either.

Looks like people are still missing the point. Guild wars is indeed a very nice game, the world is amazing the exploration by it self is also cool..

But after a month its BORING! I understand that Arena net wans to create a unique experience, so the players feel challenge in any place, either its a lvl 1 or lvl 80 area.

This is a GREAT idea, I agree… But after a while its getting really really boooooring… At a point i dont wan to face a challenge anywhere in the map. I just wan my efforts for lvling and gathering all that gear to count for something, and have something more to do rather than exploring.

According to PvP:
Some battle grounds would be cool, because the distances in WvW are insanely wide and most of the time you walk instead of fighting. Having to pvp in the same area over and over, eventually will become boring as hell. Random arenas were a good idea, but should have more player modes and different settings, ex. capture the flag, kill the Boss, resource control, opponent annihilation etc. etc….

The point of raids and raid bosses give you a VERY GOOD REASON to gear up. Otherwise there is no point of lvling and gearing since from lvl 8 i can fight huge bosses! The hole idea of gearing is to be strong enough so you can stand in the MOST epic experience online games have to offer, raids.

if anyone can fight bosses out as events, why do people need to gear up and go to raids. it will be the exact same thing…. and after a couple of months you will realize this lacks of purpose…

Now for the casuals, they will gear up for sure, just much slower than someone that plays more than them. And in pvp they shouldnt be able to compete with people that have much more play time and better gear than them. No pain no gain.

If my efforts really count for nothing, i dont see a point of playing this game, its like i am playing dead space online or something…. after a month i am bored of it and i wan a new game!

The reason why i compare it with WoW is because wow managed to stay alive a loooong time! even its graphics are sooo outdated, the majority of gamers are still on this game because it gives a PURPOSE! I would like to see the same thing on Guild wars 2.

ArenaNet, if you ever read my post PLEASE consider to do something about it! This game really has the potential to be the best MMO!

So you are primarly saying that this game would be perfect if it only was something entirely different. May I say that this game might not be for you? ^^ (not entirely serious)

No offense but that game what you describe is actually the game I left. (In my case RoM) and while it has definitely some aspects I like, those that you describe are those that I hated. So GW2 like you would like to have it would not be a game I would like.

It is not that big guilds cooperate more it is that more people even if playing solo pile up more influence. That system is prefering pure number and not the level of cooperation. how does the game encourage us to alt? all I see is that I have to grind through a lot of kitten pve content to get to dungeons, something in this game resembling fun then it’s still very restricting for at least like 20 levels and I’m handicapped because of gear/traits.. I kinda feel like I’m playing to get to the endgame, then have fun, something you guys explicitly stated you wanted to avoid.

I haven’t read everything but this game is the first game ever where I have multiple characters.

My reasons are:
Leveling is easy. One proceed very fast so it’s not that I feel like “oh no, not all of this again.”
The world is huge. I’m currently lvling my second char which is around 60 by now and I have barely done any zone twice. (I have some others with lower lvls as well)
It might be different for people who already have 100% world but that is a huge plus for me.
The different classes are different enough that it is actually fun to try them out.
Gearing them with exotics is easy enough that you do not have to stick with one “main”.

The only thing that I don’t like is that ascended issue but yeah I don’t like that gear anyway.

There is an example further up of someone who is willfully (I would hope) unwilling to learn auto-attack, traits and spending the point, etc. closer to what I was referring to.

Also – reread the part where I was highlighed there is a difference between casual and poor as an adjective for a player (and a game incidentally), and also said that terms like “casual” and “hardcore” are poorly defined.

It never was about uberleetpronesscopters – though to clarify – it was about engagement with the game via its mechanics and the willful belligerent being a waste of time.

I appologise, I missinterpreted your post then.

What I’m up to is that there are limits how good someone can become. I can play kinda decent but I will never become an keyboard-artist, doing every jumping puzzle like nothing for example. And I would wish that people come to accept that some might try and indeed improve but still are not comparable to some who a) play alot and got more practise and b) are more skilled when it comes to reaction and whatelse, instead of beeing told they do just not try hard enough.

Casual game doesn’t mean that a poor player will be able to experience every part of it.

Casual game doesn’t mean that a poor player will be accepted by better players for party play.

I don’t understand this “Casual” at all – transient / occasional / bad… its worse than “hardcore” for failure of definition.

I’ve seen players who identify as “Casual” really they are transient players who are bad at games (strangely good at forum sympathy lol) with no desire to improve their gameplay as they are “just not that into it”… and I’m considered the bad guy for suggesting they log off and uninstall before they waste anyone elses time or resources any further…

Oh guess what; I don’t want to group up with guys like you. Who’s resources do I waste then, hm? What do you provide to a community so you are not a waste? There are enough people out there who blame the “mechanics” for their own failures, because it never ever occurs to them that “they” could be the problem. Oh the game must be wrong because they fail at it. So it either is always a piece of cake, or just “bad” mechanics for them. I am not throwing my own mistakes at something else to cover my failurs. I can admit that I’m not perfect at something.

When I fail at something I try to think and learn and master it. But that does not mean that I am uberawesome and nothing is a challenge.

Tbh, I can not tell you how easy or how hard fractals are because I’ve never done them. Veterans, hm it highly depends on the veteran I would say. Some are quite doable some are pretty tough. However I’m definitely not the most awesome player in the world, but I highly suspect that all that “awesomeness” of players is very often just made up. There is a lot of social pressure involved to pretend to be good and that everything is a piece of cake.

No, it’s not. I’m not denying that there are players out there who have alot of playerskill, but I doubt that everyone finds dungeons and stuff “easy”. I’m clearly ultimately horrible when it comes to jumpingpuzzles and when playing my thief I’m definitely showing a really bad performance. I’m kinda ok when playing my necro, but I still can’t say that nothing is a challenge and everything is ultimately easy.

So why I cannot have Dragon Slayer or Commander of (Vigil/Order of Whisper/Priory) title to shown off? Cost for implementation from ANet is minimal. And this is some incentive to finish story with different orders?

The point is : there is no incentives whatsoever, and when ANet add something (like guaranteed drop) then shortly it is limited and then limited more and more.

The conspiracy theory : ANet dont like players to have gold, because then they will buy gems with gold and there is no gain from TP.

While I agree that titles would be a nice incentive, I have to disagree on your conspiracy theory. Making more money for everyone would only increase the gem price.

Should unpopular events give bonuses?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Pirlipat.2479

The main reason why I don’t go to low-lvl zones is due to what Vayne said above – if there are places for better loot, I will go for it.

Low lvl zones only have a 50% chance of dropping gear close to my lvl, and 0% chance of dropping the highest tier of mats (which is where I get my money from)

If they were able to program the low-lvl events to give me 100% guarantee for mats near my lvl, then I would do it.

Which would cause another problem. I collect mats to craft with them, if the crafting lvl is not fitting to the lvl of the character you will have no chance for lower lvl mats anymore. That would just decrease the price of T6 mats and encrease the price for lower-lvl mats. I personally really like to play in lower zones and the crafting mats I get there I can use for my alts. So I would not like a 100% guarantee.

What irks me the most is the daily dose bullkitten. Did someone play too much WoW and think “HEY EVERYTHING ON A DAILY LOCKOUT IS A SMART IDEA LET’S IMPLEMENT THAT HERE”?

It’s needed in MMO’s to keep people from devouring content too fast and then coming to forums to rage/whine/complain about having nothing to do while more content is being created. You clearly know this though.

Erm no, good content is what keeps people playing. Dailies like these have the opposite effect as it will burn people out faster. Give people choice, give them goals. That daily carrot will only look appealing for a short while.

I didn’t ask your opinion. I’m telling you what the reality is.
I don’t care what you think good/bad content is.
If you don’t like dailies, don’t do them, I could care less.

Well you’re pretty narrowminded aren’t you. Well if you don’t care why reply at all. I think you need a reality check though. Dailies is not what keeps people playing, but sure keep living in a dream world.

Why not let the developers and the professionals and experts who get paid to make these decisions do their job. You can play the game and enjoy it, or not.
Either way stop pretending like you know what’s best for the game. You have very limited information on which to base any argument on what’s best for this game in the short-term or long-term.

You folks should both stop to pretend to be able to look into the developers or players minds. You both give opinions.

I do not get your argument entirely. You have choices, you have dungeons, you have several events with loot, you can still farm mobs for mats. It is not that those events are the one and only opportunity to get loot. The loot is pretty good there, sure but you have several other ways to do something and get a reward.

They keep fiddling instead of waiting to see. They have no confidence in the changes they make, so why should we have confidence in them?

To be honest I am happy that they react relatively fast and do not wait several months creating a false security and than take it out entirely or something like that. I personally do not camp events and such stuff to get as much as possible from a certain oportunity before it gets taken out again.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Pirlipat.2479

Pirlipat.2479

There’s one aspect that is kind of important as well, the fact that there is no monthly to pay. This makes a huge difference in how ridiculous obtaining minor things in game can get. The longer it takes, the longer you play, the longer you pay subscription fees. The story I wrote in the OP is not exaggerated (mostly) and I wouldn’t have ever come here if it was the same. Sure you have to kill stuff and do dungeons to get rewards but without that, it wouldn’t really be much of a game.

I’d like to disagree. First of all I’ve never played subscribtion based games but several f2P games. Each one had a certain amount of grind involved. You are right when you say that there are not many content barriers in this game which require grinding.
And that’s a good thing.

However like in most games out there it depends on you goals if you have to grind. I was perfectly well playing a f2p game for nearly two years without grinding. The difference was that I would have never been able to catch up to do the endcontent but it does not mean that this game didn’t have things to enjoy and to play towards to.

Here I would say that many of the “top cosmetics” are only obtainable only by alot of repetitive playing which can be considered as grind. In that case it doesn’t matter if you do it optional. It is rather the way to get something which is rather boring than the fact that you don’t have to get that particular item. I am aware that grind can not be taken out entirely but I would like to see that they can come up with more interessting and challening mechanics even though I fear that would not even be appreciated by many people.

Honestly I want to appologize to those who just do stuff for the fun of it. But it is that attitude of entitlement which I’m fed up with. This reward system is wrapped around players wishes so it’s not a huge miracle that many feel that the system is rewarding. But that does not necessarily mean that someone deserves it because he is putting oh so much efford in something and that others who prefer other way are rightfully left behind.

What I see atm is that this game is going into a direction I personally don’t like. That’s it.

Edit: Which is the reason I deleted one of my previous post. It is not my intention to insult players who like dailies as a personal incentive in general. But it does not change my own opinion about dailies.

Wasn’t that actually what they said they wanted to avoid? And didn’t they claim it to be the other way round. That subscription based game had to grab their people lure them into skinner-boxes to keep their subscriptions up?

And now they have to grab into the old “do your dailies” box from the normal MMOs out there?

How can you ever guarantie me I’m NOT loosing anything? What happens after this year when most of the people have ascended beside those who started to believe in that constant uhh it’s optional statement?

And btw I stopped doing those dailies and I decided not to chase that gear but tbh it feels like I put an expiry date on my account.

I already explained before in this thread about the need for an consistently online playerbase for the health of any mmo.

You are NOT losing anything because it’s your CHOICE to NOT invest the time/effort in the dailies even though it is open to you and therefore not get the rewards.

If you can’t even understand this simple concept then online games are not for you.

Interessting I’m perfectly well getting this concept because I was encountering it in many other MMOs and which was why I bought this particular one because it somehow seemed that it was putting quite alot of emphasis on the fact that you could keep your own playstyle to enjoy without loosing your chance for BiS gear. Once and again I’m not talking about the fluff I’m talking about the limited and timeconsuming way to obtain ascended and the question what will happening once that year is over.

Edit: And yeah ofc I’m speculating that why I said it FEELS like that. But that was more to counter that argument that all that gear is completely optional which noone can proof for sure it will stay. And to add this it is not only the daily stuff it is the whole path that game is going lately.

Edit2: Funny enough I can find that “is it fun” blogpost only in it’s german version.

Give me a proper reason why it is necessary gameplaywise to log in daily and fullfill some tasks.

Because the playerbase is hurt by a lack of people online. Part of the value of a MMO is online players.

Subscription based games like WOW has a natural incentive for people to log in often because they paid for the monthly fee to play but games like GW2 needs another way to incentivize people and they came out with the dailies.

It helps the game for players to be more consistently online than online during extended sessions but offline the rest of the week.

That’s the calculation GW2 and other non subscription games have used to incentivize players to be online more consistently.

At the end of the day the bottom line is this is an OPTIONAL feature and you lose NOTHING for not using it. The choice is ultimately the player’s, and that’s the simple fact that seems to escape complainers here.

Wasn’t that actually what they said they wanted to avoid? And didn’t they claim it to be the other way round. That subscription based game had to grab their people lure them into skinner-boxes to keep their subscriptions up?

If you choose to skip a few dailies then you have no right to complain about not getting laurels on those days since rewards are based on time/effort invested as is the standard for reward for ALL mainstream online MMOs.

It would be unfair to those that actually put time in to get their laurels on those days for you to get any special consideration.

Time and effort you say? I play 24 hours per week, but only on 3 days per week, I get 3 laurels per week. Some guildies of mine only play 1-2 hours a day for 7 days a week, and they get 7 laurels.

I’m sorry, but getting laurels has nothing to do with time, it is just logging in every day play for 1 hour and get the reward.

Wrong. It’s entirely up to you to only play 3 days a week. Too bad(for you) the universe doesn’t revolve around you and your schedule.

You yourself admit that it doesn’t take long to get the dailies. (1 hour)

If you can’t manage that despite admitting you play 24 hours a week then that’s your own problem and not ANET’s.

Rofl ofc it is everyones own problem the same way like it was for the people were complaining about nothing to do about no rewards for their playing whatever which caused that situation.

Giving out laurels for dailies is a design decision it’s not like A-Net has a job they want to get done, which requires to log in daily. So why shouldn’t people who don’t like that system be allowed to critise it. Give me a proper reason why it is necessary gameplaywise to log in daily and fullfill some tasks.

You can say to make people beeing around more often. But is it a proper way to lure them in the game with some laurels and BiS gear or shouldn’t someone rather log in because he WANTS to play at that particular day. I can not agree with the TO because you got plenty of ways to obtain money. Also Karma even though the liquid bottles provide a big boost can be obtained in other ways. Laurel however can not. And even then I would not mind if Laurels were only for fluff like the minis and so on.

Dimeschemo, I can understand that you are angry that you can’t obtain a precursor weapon be it because you are unlucky or whyelse. And even though I’m not interested in a legendary at all I’d like to see a way for people to obtain it without having to rely on luck or loads of money. However THAT topic is only related as a sidenote to the loot-changes they announced. Like I understand their statement you still get loot from the chests, only the guarantied yellow loot is distributed once per day and event and account.

I do not know why you rant about beeing forced to grind while you insist in alt hopping to camp events which for me feels exactely like that -grinding.

You can still do like 10 events which give you a guarantied yellow each every day plus the chance of getting more from the chests.

I would like mounts. I wouldn’t have posted on this issue again but I feel like I should add some contra opinion to this “boooo no mounts” outcry.

And honestly all that reward heads out there are allowed to ask for more and more but people into something like mounts, are not?

Granted, if people would get over Ascended gear as a “necessity” then this wouldn’t be discussed to death like it is every few days.

Well but that’s a bit like putting a huge bright sign in your garden, saying “Please ignore this sign.”

I’m being punished because that free money, mystic coin, and karma you got from the daily makes my gold less valuable due to inflation, therefore I am being punished.

Getting ascended gear in fractal does not harm you and is only beneficial to the person wielding it and cause no harm to others.

Free money? Free karma? We do the dailies for those, they’re not free. We don’t get them for logging in, we get them for doing something.

Does people getting their paycheck for their day’s work punish you in real life? Because that’s the same kind of logic you’re using here.

In fact there is nearly nothing challenging about the dailies, as a contrary you can say that they are the strict opposit of “challenging” content because they even take away the challenge to find something enjoyable you could spend your time with. It’s like a host in a holliday camp which is keeping the already fed up and bored audience happy by telling them to jump in circles.

But strange enough everyone taking part in the “fun” feels they deserve to gain the cookie for it because they “worked”.

For me it was badly messaged. I can perfectly well live with the content which was given, but from the way it was advertised I was expecting way more. The story itself is pretty ok, for me, I would say.

I was expecting that the story was giving more chains to discover to make people solve the mystery to give me a picture to unwrap, just a bit more connections. Atm it is…yeah some teasercontent or however you may call it. And I’m just a bit disappointed because I was really looking forward to this.

And it is not my intention to bash someone. I can pretty well understand that you can’t do everything you would want with limited resources.

I do not mind so much that the story isn’t advancing fast but I personally mind that it’s not gaining depth either. Everything seems so shallow. You meet those NPCs who lost their belongings but even if you find their stuff you don’t get to know much more about them as they tell you.

Compared to Harry Potter this is like Harry was discribed rumaging endlessly in his aunts house and a month later they publish the next part.

Really? Do things in real life happen fast? No, and they certainly don’t happen when you want them too.

Ofc you can compare everything to RL but then why play a game, why read a book, why watch a movie. Any kind of art or entertainment is focussing on something and if you want to get hold of your audience you will try to catch them with something interessting. Art is not RL.

Even a reportage will focus on something and if that story is focussing on the boring bits of what’s happening not even giving some depth to the characters and their stories I am sorry to say then it’s a boring story.

I’m not saying that the story is completely wrong as a tiny little sidecontent it’s ok but it is far from beeing the awesome story it got advertised.

Edit: Beside that if you like the story the way it is, that’s fine, but that does not change my opinion on it. And I’m stating my disappointment and decreasing interest in the story, nothing else.

The key to understanding the understanding issue is in their recent blog on the Living Story. What they have given us so far are ‘teasers’, not actual content. There is also a reference to developers rolling off other projects now available to expand upon the story. The monthly events had to happen as they are a key value proposition for Anet. So, absent the ability to provide actual content, they occurred as ‘teasers’. I would expect the content to be fleshed out more properly over time and this should make the story more understandable. TLDR: You haven’t been able to get it because there has been nothing to get.

Correct.

If this is the case, Anet should have:

- titled the event otherwise, because “living” is something else (evolving?)

and Anet shouldnt have:

- announced the living story being something epic and…oh sooo exciting

but rather decribe it for what it really is: a teaser (or a live test but that would be too honest)

and voila…lot of confusion and disappointment goes pooof

the problem is that (mmo) companies exaggerate every tiny update to something new and groundbreaking for the world and then wonder, why their customers are disappointed.

Indeed. I kinda feel like someone who got promised a box of cakes. And you get a nice shiny box but when you open it you can turn it upside down but it’s literally empty, there are no cakes inside.

I am not understanding why it is vague or how people are getting lost with the story as it is. Locating the items is not that difficult, and there is always people in map chat who will let you know where to go if you ask. The first two items I found was thanks to two people with their commander tags on near the locations to help others out.

After three evenings search for one of those items, talking to NPCs in the area who know nothing, asking in mapchat (no answer) I got to disagree. Maybe I’m kinda blind or unlucky or whatsoever, no idea. I found two others so far but I think I’m gonna stop simply because the two sentences storybit you get for finding it isn’t worth that. (Pls note that i’m not asking for a tangible reward but for some kind of a story.)

Oh really, I would have never thought that people from other colleges were so narrow minded. The mere fact that you depend on the research bits that fall off the table from the other colleges doesn’t make your studies actually a whole. There is much more about dynamics and grumbles silently statics then just the few pieces that you get to actually use for your own studies.

OOC: no offense intended, I thought I have to add this asura are cool no matter which college

Sigh from what I see in this thread synergetics and statics got to cry the loudest to proof they are important which leads me to believe that dynamics (as if that was ever to be doubted tssse) must be most important. Real importance doesn’t need proof.

Well to use your metaphor it’s like advertising TV program before you invented the TV. The story is headline for their updates so I wouldn’t too astonished that people expect a story and not some teasers of a somewhere in future happening story.
