same here^^ makes message longer to get it postet…
Many people share opinions; focusing the voices down for day to day feedback might help a lot. It doesn’t mean other voices would have no outlet.
Which guilds would you choose then? I mean when someone says in a convo that he/she is talking for guild xyz I find it ok, but what is with people without guild, what is with small guilds? What criteria would you choose to allow someone to take part in a discurs? I also don’t find it a good idea only to choose people who can write good feedbacks or answer mulitple choice questions pretty well, because it doesn’t necessarly mean that this person is objective. How do you want to make sure that the selection of people doesn’t already predeterminate the outcome of the discussion?
I don’t like this idea because it’s leaving out quite alot of opinions.
I just want to add a few questions:
If there is a real dialog between the community and the developers, how do the other language forums get integrated into this process? Is that even possible?
I would as well ask you to take into consideration that there are people who don’t post on the forums, simply because what is a problem for someone does not necessarily have to be one for someone else. I usually don’t post in every thread when I think something is “ok” for example. Still a change could have an influence on them.
Instead of a poll I would rather suggest something like a monthly survey, which is longer but more detailed. Such a survey could also have a special topic for each month, such as class balance, living story etc..
Last but not least I would ask you to keep in mind that there are several different playstyles and different people. I’m saying this because this “who is the majority” – game seems to be quite popular in this forum, but I think that different people have different wishes and I think as well that the game looses alot of it’s variety if everything is just based on the wishes of “the” majority. There should be niches for several groups.
Thank you

Well, true tbh I haven’t decided yet if it’s really worth the efford. :S But – hm – I feel tempted.^^
+1 for the weapons, if anything is making me want to level my crafting it’s the staffskin (which will take me ages). When I saw the red ones on dulfys, I thought “oh I’ll wait until I can see the other colors before I decide which one I’m planning to make.” erm…..This is actually the sad thing about them (beside beeing ascended -.-) that the colors are bound to stats.
-1 for the armors – I don’t like them
Thanks alot you guys made it clear. Elitism is running the game now.
No, the fact is this game is ruled my casual play, not elitism. When you are watching the clock for a temple to come up in 40m, and decide to do a 20m dungeon with a group, there is no kitten reason such a person should be forced to spend 2hrs in that dungeon.
You don’t get what I talk about. If you don’t want to spend time with someone who could potentially slow you down, then label your group as such. Not labeling it and still expecting certain things – be it level, gear, experience or what else – because you think it’s “natural” and because everyone should know that in advance is elitist imo. How can someone know what you want if you don’t communicate it? If you are not able or willing to label your group properly you should expect that anyone joins in.
(edited by Pirlipat.2479)
Well, based on the single wintersday-box that I opened I would say it contains old socks.
Oh don’t worry, I don’t feel like a martyr, I only think it is pretty enlightening about what this community becomes.
This is exactely the thing I’m talking about. Until today I assumed that this kind of speedrun fast efficent blabla was some kind of exception. Yep, I’m badly mistaken, I see. Don’t worry I don’t PUG with anyone. I have my own bias with the social competences of PUG players. One really positive experience made me nearly throw that over board. To early as I see now.
Pff, at least label your groups properly. -.-
So, ok I got a lvl 80. Looking at the lfg-tool I assumed that any group which isn’t labeled to be a speedrun-group (which is more then half of the Groups anyway) is open for everyone. Well obviously it is not and it is some kind of lese majesty to even join it if you don’t have a lvl 80. Everyone lower should just stick to the lowlvl pariahs because even if not explictely labeled it is insulting to assume that there could be people who play for fun. Thanks alot you guys made it clear. Elitism is running the game now.
Those that quit are the ones looking to be carried, but then whine that 80s won’t take them.
The OP wants people to stop their speed farms, stop their profits and have fun by being nice and sharing with everyone. Namely himself who is a level 35 all green (I hope at least) wearing character who. Will be inferior in every way to even a level 40 character.
Maybe you should read the opening post before you spread your bias all over the place. Where exactely do you read he was looking for 80ies to get dragged through? He was joining a group which wasn’t labeled to be speedrun or something.
There is a lot of preaching going on in this thread.^^ Did I pay a years sub worth? No, but I spent some money here and there, when I liked the item. And I don’t regret it a bit.
Honestly, I’m not happy with everything in this game, but overall I enjoy it alot, otherwise I wouldn’t play it anymore. I don’t “invest” in my characters.
On the other hand everyone telling us that spending gems on the shop is supporting the “wrong” way: how do I know that “your” perfect way is the way I would like? When I read the forum I get the impression that many people want things that would make me stop playing.
Would you consider killing NPC’s in one or two shots to be interesting gameplay? When would tactics and strategy come into play in this particular situation?
I would consider killing stronger NPCs.
I tell you a secret: Put off your nice shinies and magically the NPCs become harder.^^
We should all learn Esperanto.^^
5: Personally im not against living story (except if great part is living story).
The problem is that people want to do all the content (or experience it all), you are forcing yourself, and anet can be (only can be lol) using that “need to do all” you have, to mantain you logged in. Up to you to fix it.
Of course people want to do content. I thought that’s what new content is for. I think people are not complaining that there is new content, they feel stressed that this new content vanishes after a very limited time window and only during this time you are able to do it.
Ofc I can decide not to play but this is what I can do with the entire game. I always thought new content was made to keep people playing and not to chase them away from playing. I WANT to play the living story but the time window is mostly so short that it drags out my motivation to do it from the beginning because I will end up beeing half way through or having to hurry so I can do everything. I personally got nothing against the living story but the timing could definitely need some adjustment imo.
ok, it’s good that you told us.
Maybe it shouldn’t be a starter Zone, but I would really see that this farm trains stay put on one zone and don’t spread over whole Tyria. At least I know which zone to avoid then.
I thought their color depends on the main stat?
Well only for those who drove over 100000km this year and where crying because they bought an electric car, expecting it to be a gas one.
Sadly several of those buying this electric car bought it because they didn’t want to have a gas engine any longer..
Colin Johnson timeline:
- The now infamous quote about expecting people to have best-in-slot gear upon reaching level 80.
- The now infamous quote about how he didn’t expect people to get to exotics so fast, so Ascended gear must be added.
- Don’t expect another tier for a long while.
Do you really trust him at this point?
Sure I trust him. Just like anyone else who said something years ago, and then the situation changed. In your life, you’ve never said something and two years later had to change it?
People are disingenuous. Oh, he’s a dev. He needs to be proficient in crystal ball to know what will happen.
That’s not the way the world works.
Yeah lets just get all game developers to make false statements about their game before release so people will buy the game anyway despite them not wanting it, then make up some BS so they can cover it up. Is that what you’re trying to say? God, you’re so ignorant.
Okay that’s another story. I believe when those statements were made, that was the intention. People are complaining about what Anet is saying NOW, about what Anet was saying then. These are two completely different issues.
Do you have any evidence that when Anet said that stuff they didn’t mean it?
Well, so they did not lie on purpose but changed their opinion a few days or weeks after release. What makes you sure they wont change it again this time?
This discussion is useless. Either someone trusts or he/she doesn’t. No side can convince the other one. I for my part don’t but on the other Hand: if they want to add another tier we can’t hinder them anyways so why should I care?
oooops looks like I shouldn’t skip a paragraph, lol. xD
I thought it referred to:
„Wer seid Ihr?“, fragte ich. (“Who are you?”)
[…] (I kinda overread this sentence): „Was für ein wunderbarer Beginn unserer Bekanntschaft.“ […]
„Einer, den Ihr nicht vergessen werdet. Ich werde mich wieder melden. Nennt mich E.“
But she still at least perceives him as male, as it seems.
The german translation of the story on their mainpage is refering to E as a male. It could be a wrong translation but still…
E says: „Einer, den Ihr nicht vergessen werdet. Ich werde mich wieder melden. Nennt mich E.“
Anyway E seems to be a real person.
Wasn’t the thread about silly reasons? Noone said that the reasons have to be actually valid. ^^
I don’t play human females because their legs are to thin, at least compared to the rest. I don’t like their proportions at all.
Hmmmm, the light version seems to be cool on Asura. If they are in the shop for a normal price, I could feel tempted. If they come in gambling boxes, do whatever you want with them…
I would have loved if one could actually “manipulate” the moas, so that the game became rather about tactics and not about luck.
I mean the exploit was definitely not fair, but it would be cool for example to give “your” moa zhaitaffy for a speed boost which slows it down after a short while, stuff like that.
Note: I’m not trying to defend any kind of exploit, I’m talking about making this game tactics/skillbased.
Just as a sidenote. Am I really the only one who enjoyed the southsun-storyline? I mean no it wasn’t exactely a masterpiece of sublime storytelling, but I liked the atmosphere (“like” beeing the wrong word maybe^^) and I found it immersive and pretty intense.
That fishy consortium company which tricked people into workingcontracts they are neither suited for nor do they want to do them. The consortiumpeople themselves didn’t seem all to happy with their workforces.
The settlers after happily moving to this island to start a new future and now seeing the reality but beeing trapped by a workingcontract. Wildlife going mad everywhere and attacking everything they can reach. Every minute someone loosing his nerves and going on a rampage… A madhead trying to play the hero while making everything much worse.
And in between they play paradise for some snobby tourists. Of course the story had it’s flaws and some pieces where not that awesome but overall I really liked it.
And yes of course I think they try to get people to play but after daily missions, ascended stuff and other things that I don’t like at all I think it is still a way better approach to “lure” people into the game.
(edited by Pirlipat.2479)
There is a difference between “relative” and “absolute”.
It depends on what you refer to. Asura animations are alot faster than those of a norn while they don’t get somewhere faster. So compared to the distance they travel in a certain time they are as fast as everyone else, compared to themselfes their movements are faster. Their legs move faster compared to other races but each step doesn’t gain so much distance with each step so the Asura as a whole is only as fast as everyone else.
If you do this, how would you compensate those who have townclothes items with special abilities? like the mad king costume, witch costume etc. they are town clothing, but they do have special abilities tied to them
Isn’t the costume-brawl ability added to the costume weapon? At least it is for my pirate costum. So making the clothes avaiable in combat wouldn’t change you abilities as long as you can’t use the costume weapon in combat. Tbh I think most costumes (not all cough) are less immersion breaking than the quaggan-backpacks, so I would be really happy to be able to use those as normal armor.
I don’t know, the carrot on the stick is sorta like human nature isn’t it? If there was no carrot on the stick we’d still be banging rocks together.
Removing the carrot is like being happy you still live with mom and dad when you’re 50, not even having your drivers license ect.. It’s not good practice in real life, and it’s not good practice in video games.
Carrots on sticks are not the same as having goals. That’s something many people seem to mistake. A carrot on a stick is a goal you will never reach or better a goal you reach but it gets immedeately devaluated because there is a new one. Gearprogression for example works this way. You reach the best possible gear but some weeks later there is new best gear and the chase begins again.
There is nothing wrong with having goals and wanting to achieve something but in my opinion this constant hunt for something is making someone as unhappy as having no goals at all.
Edit: Just to add an anecdote: Even my hamster was recognising that always running in the same direction while never getting anywhere is stupid. So he was running in his hamsterweel and tried to change the direction in between. Guess what happened. xD (No hamster was hurt^^)

There was no need to destroy the ship. Almost anything would have been better. Some possible alternatives:
- Oops. There was a fire in the cargo hold. All the contracts were burned. Sorry.
- Oops. There was a stowaway on board, obviously working for Canach, he/she threw all the contracts overboard/destroyed them with fire/acid/bitter tears. Sorry.
- Oops. Pirates. They took the contracts. Said something about needing toilet paper. We barely escaped with our lives. Sorry.
- Oops. Terrible storm, a nor’easter out o’ the sou’west, had to throw everything but the crew overboard to keep the ship from sinking. Sorry.
- Oops. We were attacked by deep sea trolls, vile enemies of Bubbles the Good, Friendliest Dragon of All. As it turned out these trolls had quite a taste for parchment and ink and ate all the contracts. Sorry. They really liked the taste of Consortium parchment and ink, though, so we gave them your address. If that’s any consolation.
forget logic!^^ blowing up a ship is a proper solution for almost every problem simply because it adds a big kaboom and yep nearly everyone loves firework. But your solutions were pretty cool too.
Spend your Gems on what you want to. If you don’t like RNG, that’s ok. Buy some character fashions that are available directly from the shop. Win/Win situation.
Because we always got such a huge range of different weapon/armorskins at the cashshop which are totally independent from RNG, right?

So no, I’m not contradicting myself. Going for an item isn’t content. This game has content for those who want to hang around in the open world. Rift really didn’t (again back then anyway).
But for several people it is. Having a goal to play towards to, having the feeling to achieve something. I am not playing that way but I can totally understand that it becomes frustrating if someone tries to get something – and we do have items which require grinding alot of mats (no matter if optional or not) and he doesn’t get nearer because the drops are so low that you can spend ages to get everything.
What is missing here is in my opinion something inbetween. Some cosmetical items which can be achieved within a shorter time but are more than “common” exotic stuff. I think ascended doesn’t serve that purpose because it’s not cosmetic gear, it is nothing to show off “look what I did”. And I hope that we get more variety over time in general so that we have stuff which require different amounts of time.

They use the same system as hot air balloons. ^^
I think Outlaws idea is a very good one. This way they could also add short summaries of what happened during those events as well. I personally think, a story should take place in the game and not rely on outside sources like wiki or their website.
The same goes for people who did not attend previous events. Ofc the event and the experience can’t be repeated but if a story depends on previous events people should be able to get the backgroundstory in game. Often that could be done with only a few lines of text spoken from an NPC who gives a few hints.
I’m not a RPer and I personally have never entered Salma district that way but whenever I was visiting this area I thought that it would be a great place for RPing.
So I would really love to see that place open for bigger groups than five people, in which way ever.
Why is everyone so astonished that Karka and the other wildlife are hostile on that island? That’s exactely what I expected them to be. I mean whenever I was on that island “it did not end well” like a good friend of me likes to say.^^
I try to compare those models from a general perspective. Ofc thats my personal opinion.
I’d like to remind you that A-Net is not entirely F2P. Everyone of us already spent 50 Euro at least on the game. So however if you buy the game you still have the risk that you might not like the game and wasted your money. I’m not saying I did but that’s a risk of that model in general.
In general F2P games tend to be pay to win. The cash-shops usually sell stuff that is relevant to proceed. Either XP-Boosts for grinder or improvement for equip or certain maps or what ever so if someone wants to enjoy the whole game in other F2P he usually has to pay. If someone play alot he might as well be able to finance this cash-shop content by exchanging ingame currency into chash-shop currency. (But that does not work for everyone ofc.) At least these are my experiences with those kind of games.
If you do not care so much for a steady progression you can play F2P games very well for free, but many people tend to invest more than they would have spent on a subscription based game.
Subscription based games on the other hand, well they bind you by a subscription. Usually there is nothing wrong with it when you like the game. But if you want to take a break well you will pay your subscription for nothing. you are somehow bound to the game.
So I would say from my perspective GW2 is a good compromise. You buy the game and the rest is F2P but because they already got money they can afford to sell rather cosmetic items but do not have to rely on game relevant stuff.

That’s something completely different imo. I agree with you and like I said imo the end-content is ok. But that does not mean that someone who misses that part is somehow trying to fill the “void, and meaninglessness of his/her life” or something. He might but who am I to say so when I don’t know the person.
I hate it when someone depreciates my ideas and wishes as “you want everything handed to you, you got no skill etc…” But I think that kind of assumtions is doing the same to “the other side”.
Could we all just stop to do some kitchen sink psychology why someone has an opinion (in that case about end-game) or not? I’m personally quite fine with that so called end-content but that does not mean that everyone has to think the same.
I am also that “easy to distract, enjoys beautifull things and skins type.”
One type is missing here imo. In other games I was the “nothing without my guild, I use games as a social activity” type. I was spending ages to chat with my guild and to do nonsense-stuff with them. Unfortunately I haven’t found many people here to do such stuff… yet.
I also enjoy WvW from time to time as a team-activity even though I’m not very much into it.
All Asura wear the male version of armor only. The female & male bodies of Asura don’t differ hardly at all. And no breasts. So….The sexy female winged light armor would look more awkward than anything on Asura.
Well, I’m quite fine with the armors for my female asura, but in this case I think it would not be awkward at all if they only took the female shoulder-parts. I think it would be quite cute actually. So some slight adjustments would be cool, but like I said in another thread I fear they would make it to cute. I see my asura as a little female scientist and not as a doll.
Btw: The cabalist armor is quite cute in it’s current state already. But I think we got different ideas about what’s cute.^^

Ah, ok thx alot for your answers. I’m not so happy it’s not evolving but there seem to be some more inhabitants that did hide from me the first times. =)
It won’t end in a dungeon. We have however included an instance that will open up that has a single player version, and a more difficult multiplayer version.
The ending is different
That sounds very, very cool. =)
Well, I can see your point. But from what I know, mesmer-portals can be used for several jumping-puzzles not just this one. It is a general problem. For me personally it feels a bit like cheating, but it seems to be widly used and afaik A-Net made no objections about this. I am really bad at jumping puzzles and tbh atm I feel tempted to use a portal because crab-toss is even more confusing for me. So well, I really can’t decide.
At least you know that you did it yourself.
And I wouldn’t blame the mesmers. They are just beeing kind.

Hi,
some time ago I was exploring Rata Sum, talking to NPCs and so on. Today I was back in Rata Sum and found some convos which are new to me. Did I just not recognise them the first time or do they actually add some new inhabitants over the time?
Plants are shameless individuals. People with hayfever could tell you stories about it….
