Some guy on reddit had 5 or 6 boots boxes drop, and nothing else.

I had 3 gloves boxes.

I should probably stop spending nightmare keys until this is answered…

Really I see this as a waste of Gems. You can send and receive mail anywhere in the game. Why add more clutter to add more potential lag?

How does it add clutter/lag? It replaces the current animation that is already used in the game. The clutter (and lag) should be exactly equal.

Please, allow us to skip cut scenes.

Pixelpumpkin.4608

There’s a bigger technical issue—during “in game” scenes, the NPCs are moving around and things are happening (gadgets might be activating, props may be animating, etc.) and if you just skipped all that, it could lead to some really bizarre behavior. Trying to manually set a “failsafe” to teleport the NPCs, fire off effects, etc. to replicate what the world state is if the cutscene plays is extremely tedious and error prone.

That’s why the old style “dialogue cutscenes” (and the fancy but rare full blown cinematic sequences, like the Order movies and racial intros) are skippable, because we aren’t doing anything to the world while the dialogue plays, so skipping it doesn’t have any effect. We’ve moved away from those, because the in-game scenes are a lot more satisfying, but there’s a trade off.

Thank you for letting us know!

Also thank you for continuing to try things. It’s appreciated. (But we can only appreciate it when we know about it, so keep us in the loop a little bit? )

First let me address the “US resident” thing. It breaks my heart when we have to do this — for contests, for this program, for other things — but we really must do it for legal reasons. Different countries have different definitions of volunteer work and we simply do not have the means to have the program reviewed and adjusted to conform to multiple legal requirements that may apply to any given volunteer opportunity.

I think a lot of potential good candidates wont be eligible simply because of the USA requirement.

Yes, that is very true and I regret it more than I can say. This is a pilot program and we may be able to extend it in the future, though.

High chance my behind!

RNG will be RNG.

I bought my last pair of gloves with crests. Minutes later, a glove box dropped for me. I now have 3 glove boxes too many and nothing meaningful to do with them.

and thats pretty much my whole point right there. even if we didnt buy them, and got lucky, we’re still getting them as drops with nothing to use them for. a simple trading interface would be great, even if we have to wait until the final chapter for it. just give us something to look forward to!

No Pixelpumpkin, I’m not saying either. Requiring either of the options you present are absurd and not what I am saying.

If you had actually read this thread you would see that I’m glad that other content is there for those that want to do it.

Please answer me as to why we must do other totally unrelated content just to give the large number of hard to obtain story rewards ANY VALUE?

You’re saying you should be able to make Mawdrey with JUST the living story rewards. But then what about people who want the item but don’t want to play through the story instances? Then all of a sudden it is okay to force THEM to play content THEY don’t like?

Then I repeat my question, how would you do it? Please be specific!

So instead of posting a years old video we have all seen, usually more than once… why not post something constructive about how to fix x or improve y or add in z? Posting this is kinda like a subtle dig against Anet and not necessary or needed.

You know, sometimes people just want to yell and shake pitchforks and vent their frustration, and no amount of logic and reason and constructive dialogue will convince them otherwise.

If you can queue from anywhere, what happens when the match is ready while someone is loading, in a cutscene, or talking to a scout? I doubt people want the match-ready UI to stay up for 90+ seconds while the slowest player loads and maybe decides to accept. We also can’t just give dishonor to people who miss the queue because they are loading, or watching a personal story cut scene as that seems unfair. These problems led us to the compromise we have now, but we are open to other options!

I thought in this regard the old system worked fine. There was a 2 minute countdown before the match started, which, it seemed to me, was enough time for everyone to get into the game.

You are rescuing a village that will then stay rescued

I think the denizens of Silverwastes would take exception to that declaration. If only…

If only it worked like that! Then we could play new content for exactly 5 minutes after its release, followed by months of living the peaceful life of an adventurer without adventures (or a day job), feeding cows in Queensdale hoping that the farmer will invite us in for a slice of home-made cake, lest we starve.

Again, if you don’t want to wait, that’s your decision and consequently your problem.

But for the record, I had 7-10 of each mordrem bag saved up from the last release (I stopped opening them after I had all the fangs I needed) and that was enough to get all spleens and bladder parts. Now I’m back to not even opening the bags, in preparation for the next release.

If this strategy failed me, however, I would have no problem knowing that if that last bladder thingie just won’t drop for me, I’ll just get it, guaranteed, in a single one final boss breach, on December 16. This year, not 2025. It is 12 days away. Good enough. (Let’s be real though, in 12 days of GW2, if you play as much as you make the impression you do, it WILL drop.)

Mordrem parts, once again

in Living World

Posted by: Pixelpumpkin.4608

Pixelpumpkin.4608

This isn’t temporary content. You don’t have to grind it out now and it’s not like you need it either. Alternatively, hop servers to farm breaches back to back while it’s active.

Good luck trying to complete these events successfully with 10 other people when the story has moved on from Silverwastes.

I have been hopping servers from breach to breach. The problem is that the loottable is so diverse already there’s fewer chance to get the specific items. Doing a breach after another got old in the first SW release, but I guess the alternative is to “wait until the next release!” Great!

You can kill each boss with 5 people, thanks to scaling. I’ve killed one with 3 people.

As for mordrem parts, I hear that it is possible to tag all four bosses, netting you 4 parts per breach. I wouldn’t recommend it, since it clearly is unfair towards the players that actually try and kill the bosses.

Lastly, the fact that you get a mordrem part (guaranteed) whether you kill the boss or not, should also be taken into consideration. So not, you don’t have to kill them at all. You can tag the boss, then sit in a corner or die in a fire for all the game cares, and you’ll still get your mordrem part.

It’s really not nearly as dire as you are painting it right now.

Oh, or not. I guess you;re one of those people who buys time-gated materials on release day for hundreds of gold while I sit and make a pretty penny and craft my own stuff a few weeks later… with your money.

:)

Anyways, you have options: grind, or wait. ANet is not obligated to give you all the rewards immediately and for minimum effort. You just have to decide what’s more important to you, to get them as fast as possible or with little effort, but later. If that’s not a decision you can make, or if you’re not enjoying yourself based on your own choice, it seems weird to me that you would should at ANet for it.

The rewards worked differently in the past – where we didn’t have this choice – and ANet was criticized for it. Now they changed it up. But I guess it’s still not good enough for “BUT I WANT IT NAO BUT I DON’T WANT TO WORK FOR IT EITHER” kind of players…

Pixelpumpkin.4608

So, what are you saying? In specifics?

  • ANet should magically know that Tumult.2578 doesn’t like fractals, so put all rewards anywhere in the game EXCEPT fractals?
  • ANet should make all rewards obtainable in all different playmodes, so you should be able to build Mawdrey by playing only WvW OR only fractals OR only PvP OR only dungeons OR only open world maps OR jumping puzzles…?

Because the content YOU don’t want to do is different from the content other players don’t want to do. What about people who want Mawdrey but hate playing the living story instances? Did you think of them too?

As it stands, certain rewards come from certain areas of the game. I want to complete my spoon collection, well I guess I have to WvW for 20 minutes. It’s not something I usually do, but if I want the reward bad enough, I will. I don’t necessarily want to play the Togonn fight without being hit by his air walls and sand pools, but golly, if I want the reward, I think I’ll try. Luckily, LFG is full of people who are happy to lend a hand and share tips and tricks, or even carry you through story instances or fractals or dungeon paths if required. I kind of hate the Wurm fight, but if I really really want the Wurmicidal achievement, I can find a guild to help me get it and then never return. Or I can decide to just not get it. All the options are there!

But I guess going on the forums and yelling at people works too.

Wow, you sound angry.

First off, these are components for Mawdrey, and Mawrdrey really has nothing to do with the Living Story at all. There’s no mention of it at all in the NPC dialogues. You don’t HAVE to craft Mawdrey, you know? It neither blocks your story progression on a technical nor on a lore/immersion level. These items help you with an optional side-quest for the bored.

Personally, I found it super-awesome to go on a treasure hunt / paper chase for those items. It showed me areas of the game that I had neglected since first map completion. It reminded me of content I’d forgotten. It showed me one or two things I didn’t even know existed.

Same with the Luminescent collections, that send me to other map to find one or the other item to imbue with those post-boss pollen clouds.

It is my hope and wish that ANet does lots and lots more of these.

Alright, so when I use this and send a mail, I see a griffon fly away instead of a pigeon. (and looking at the video above, I also see a griffon deliver that mail to the recipient). But: does the mail recipient see a griffon or a pigeon deliver that mail? and do they see my griffon fly away when I first sent that mail? cause I really think they should see a griffon for all of those.

As far as I understand, it always depends on the sender.

Let’s say I have a pigeon and you have a griffon.

  • You send me mail: I will see griffon
  • I send you mail: you will see pigeon
  • ANet sends you mail: you will see griffon

Datamined strings suggest that there might be one-time mail effects too (kind of like finishers can be unlocked for a specific amount or completely) and I think I read “confetti”. So you can use this to customize a birthday greeting, love letter or whatever that you send to another player. While with the mail you get, the effect will depend on the sender (unless it’s ANet in which case you see your own mail effect, because why the hell not, I guess).

That means at the moment if you want to have all weight sets of the armor, you can only get 7 (out of 12) pieces through living story. 5 must be farmed for.

Indeed, although one pair of gloves can be obtained from the PvP reward track and the other pair of gloves has a high chance of dropping from the nightmare chest – that leaves you with just the boots to purchase, as well as Verata’s trinket for the collection, which is 4000 bandit crests in total right now.

Content Wise? It’s about 1/3 of what we got from the 1st 2 years of GW1 with the only increase in quality being the graphics.. So for the most part, yeah.

Story Wise? Absolutely. I barely play because this isn’t Guild Wars anymore. It’s SJ Wars.

Feature Wise? it’s ok.. No new races/classes is a huuuge let down.

The Silverwastes is not tiny.

It’s 1/4 the size of a regular zone. How is that not tiny?
If they made the original game at the rate that they are releasing zones in the LS, it would take around 40+ years to complete.

Let’s say I have a square and a rectangular container. The square container has half the surface area of the rectangular container when viewed from top. Is the rectangular container larger than the square container?

What if the square container was taller than the rectangular container and had a volume of 5 times that of the rectangular container as a result?

My point is that you cannot simply judge something based on a two dimensional view.

I agree. The Silverwastes may be (right now anyway) half the size of Kessex Hills, but there is a hell of a lot more going on in them. I have spent so many hours in the Silverwastes and every time I think I’m about to get bored, something completely new is added.

You (ANet) shouldn’t punish your playerbase when you (Gaile) had to work on a potato with a bad internet connection. Long loading times in a forum holy kittens … I didn’t knew such things exist.

Am I the only one, then? I experience long load times at work (strong ‘Net service as you can imagine), at home (fast cable), on the road — everywhere. Maybe I’m impatient, but posting and loading to read take me quite a little bit of time.

It’s the way the forum DB is structured. It’s not about connection, it’s about traffic and what the DB can handle based on the code. It’s slow to respond based on that.

Uhm… we’re all accessing the SAME database, and most people don’t have the loading issues. That suggests that it is something either on Gaile’s end, or something to do with the fact that she uses a moderator account and we don’t.

Either way, if it was database traffic, we’d all have the same issues.

I have had absolutely NO problems at all finding groups to run story or achievements with. I haven’t even had to create the LFG listings myself as in most cases I just joined existing ones. First, the Dungeons and Crafting Sub-forums haven’t been abandoned, but it is true that they haven’t seen a lot of dev activity lately. Our hope is that when we’re asking the developers to look at fewer forums — to not have to scroll down 11 times to get to the bottom group, to not have to play a guessing game of “Where would players look for this info?” — there will be increased developer participation.

It would be fantastic if those were the consequences, but I myself have a hard time imagining that the type of person who won’t scroll down on the front page WILL go to page 2, 3, 4 of the “general discussion” subforum and reply to buried posts.

For the legs:

You need to finish the story instances. You will get one leg box as story reward. You can then repeat the story on other characters for more boxes, or buy them from the crest vendor.

For the boots:

You need a “boot requisition order” item. You can get this as a random drop, or by completing the defend event in the Skritt area to the north.

There is an achievement for completing that event for the first time, and the achievement reward is a boot requisition order.

It is a liability thing AND it is Resume filler. These “specialists” will likely be allowed to place their tenure on their resumes as unpaid internships. Therefore, non-US citizens would likely have to get a work-visa since ANet is based in the US.

But lots of duplicate unanswered threads is not what we want/need. We need consolidated threads with answers.

this story just released also has a carapace piece reward.

I suspect if you’re willing to be patient, the entire carapace set will be available through living story chapters

Unfortunately, we already know the answer to this:

  • Chapter 5 released the shoulders (story reward)
  • Chapter 6 released the gloves (partial story reward)
  • Chapter 7 released the leggings (story reward) AND boots (grind only)
  • Chapter 8 will release the chest piece (probably story reward) AND helmet (probably grind only)

The chances of the boots dropping as story reward for a future chapter are near zero. They are already out.

That being said, some of the avenues of getting items are not quite clear yet. For instance: was the loot table for the Great Nightmare Chest updated to include carapace boxes other than gloves, or not? Will the PvP track be updated/be made repeatable? Etc. So there are possibilities (however small the chance) that there are/will be alternate ways to get the armor pieces – it’s just pretty much not going to be story rewards for some of them.

Gaile, I’m afraid that putting “Players Helping Players” that low on the list will cause it to never be seen. This is disheartening, given it’s one of the most key areas newcomers can get detailed answers to their questions and the people who frequent that sub-forum are often those who enjoy tutoring or mentoring newcomers anyway.

I would put “Players Helping Players” in the Game Discussion forum, or even create a new main forum category of “Getting Started” “Newcomers Welcome” or something similar to appear above the Professions area.
