You qualify for achievement progression if you have “interacted with the enemy”.

You do NOT qualify for achievement progression if you haven’t interacted with the enemy.

Counts for achievement progression:

  • Ghost kills villager (“one of us”)

Does not count for achievement progression:

  • Villager scores points for “surviving”
  • Villager scores points for “narrow escape”
  • Villager damages (but does not kill) ghost with the hammer
  • Last villager wins the game
  • “Hide in the shadows”
  • Ghost damages (but does not kill) villager

Irrelevant:

  • Points
  • Whether lunatics or villagers win
  • Whether you played the game from the beginning or joined late

Don’t know if relevant: (haven’t gotten around to testing it yet, feel free to do so yourself)

  • Villager kills ghost with hammer/rifle/chainsaw (I assume it counts)
  • Ghost successfully performs “Mad King Says”
  • Villager uses item on ghost (torch, spiderweb, goo)
  • Any other “interactions” I can’t think of right now

I don’t mind the leveling changes for actual new characters, but they’re still annoying to me in other contexts.

The other day I created a new character for a costume contest thing (I didn’t have a female human ranger that I could use for that). I had to level the new character to level 10 just so I was able to put headgear on her. I wanted to spend my time transmuting and dying, not doing Queensdale hearts. :/

ANet, have you considered offering an item that plays moody environmental sounds (both the rolling thunder and the mad scientist lab would work for this) in the home instance? Not an inventory item, a permanent installation. I’d buy that.

Party "join" limit. Why?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Pixelpumpkin.4608

Pixelpumpkin.4608

I have hit this limitation a few days ago in the weirdest way.

I tried joining a lab taxi and all the join buttons were greyed out, because I “had joined too many groups recently”. Thing is, I hadn’t joined ANY groups all day. This was the first. MAYBE the second if I was still “grouped” with last night’s friends when I logged in.

That’s the only time I encountered it and it seemed glitchy. However, there are good and legitimate reasons for joining a few parties in a short time:

  • trying to find a taxi for a boss fight
  • joining potential dungeon groups but then finding out they don’t want you, so you have to find another
  • joining other players for quick costume brawl
  • partying with someone in /map to show them where that last POI is
  • grouping/ungrouping for specific boss fights and champions
    Etc.

So I imagine that if you are it would be easy to hit the cap every now and then.

On the other hand, what abuse does the limitation prevent? I can’t even come up with anything. Any ideas?

I think this limitation makes about as much sense as the fact that I can’t send my boyfriend more than 2 in-game mails in a row: none at all.

The suggestion was to allow us to use outfits with armor helmets, not armors with outfit helmets, although if they took the outfit helmets (which are clearly already separate from the rest of the outfit, otherwise we wouldn’t be able to toggle them on/off) and made them available as helmet skins, I wouldn’t be unhappy either.

For example, I know that many players are really fond of the straw hat and would love to be able to wear that with their combat clothes (for female AND male characters).

There is ways to design fights to be engaging and interesting and ask more of the player than spamming “1”…. without constant knockbacks.

The Marionette proved that.

This is not about difficulty – stacking on the commander and spamming 1 is easier than fighting the fights as they were actually designed to be fought (example, Candycorn Viscount).

I’m with the OP on this one.

It just doesn’t make sense to me that they would remove them JUST after adding the collections into the game. How not to get disconnected during Tequatl

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I used to get disconnected in boss fights a LOT, especially right at the end, even when playing on low settings. The problem was my graphics card.

So when the boss was about to die, I turned around and enjoyed the view of the landscape. That usually helped, if I thought of it in time.

Then they released updated drivers for me graphics card and I didn’t have that problem anymore. … or maybe I bought a new one. … I don’t even remember right now, but yeah, that’s where the problem was.

PLEASE more armor sets instead of outfits!

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Pixelpumpkin.4608

Pixelpumpkin.4608

What I’d prefer to see is anet start designing and selling single pieces of armor. Instead of a whole set, put out a coat or leggings. Make them with the intent of mix and matching, and work off of existing sets to promote the customization we all want. Like the medium magitech leggings. They look great, but have very few options.

Sell quality single pieces for 300-400 gems designed for mix and match, and make more money for less work.

They have (the Lawless stuff), and people complained about that as well.

That’s because the Lawless items look offensively weird, because there is absolutely no context for them in guild wars. So iirc, everybody’s reaction was, “What IS that and WHY”, a lot more than outrage over missing pants.

The toxic shoulders and gloves were also released as individual parts and I recall no outrage. In fact, looking around in PvE, they appear to be quite popular. I see them frequently as parts of matched ensembles.

I have yet to see ANY player with a Lawless helmet/gloves/boots.

in Players Helping Players

Right now, only get a specific piece if you like the skin and want to wear it immediately.

At some later point in your GW2 life you will look back and think “Oh, with my current wealth status, these T1 skins are actually pretty cheap! I should pick them up or something!” And that’s the best time to get them.

The skins will count towards two separate achievements:

  • <race> Specialty Armors
  • Fashion Forward (collect 1000 different weapon or armor skins)

If you run low on transmutation charges, I find they pile up relatively fast from PvP, even in “hotjoin” which is the most casual (drop in, drop out) version of PvP.

Pixelpumpkin.4608

So, I had accidentally deleted the character I had that had this item shortly after the 2012 halloween event ended. The wardrobe update didn’t include my Mad Memories (as expected). My question is simple: Can I or can I not obtain the Mad Memories this year?

Seriously, did you not read the two posts directly above yours?

ANet should make it available for people who can spell it.

You know.. I just discovered, unless stopped, my Chrome automatically changes “Memoires” to “Memories.” Apparently, “Memoires” is not a real word. “Memoirs,” however, is a real word.

“Mémoire” (with accent and with -e) is French. It translates to “memory”. “Mad Memories” is not all THAT wrong.

“Memoire” (without accent but with an -e) doesn’t really mean anything.

So the first people to misspell whatever this is (probably “Memoirs”) were ANet.

;)

As far as I can tell, they either made this unnecessarily overcomplicated for something that will be around just 2 weeks, or those ghosts were brought back just for flavor, and it’s just a bug in those ghosts’ dialogue that makes the memoires dialogue appear for some people.

OR… the dev(s) who got the maps ready for this year simply forgot to remove them. Which I think is entirely possible.

I’ve played since release but wasn’t online much during the first Halloween (it is pretty much the only thing in GW2 I largely missed), so I would have appreciated the opportunity to make up for it now.

But I was able to pick up the first 3 pages, so at least it gave me something to do for a bit today.

  1. Constant running I don’t know about you guys, but my character waypoints. Maybe she was supposed to be really fit when she did map completion, but now, uh, not so much.
Sumo wrestlers have a LOT of muscle mass and are constantly in physical training, and yet they manage (on a strict diet of constant “over”-eating) to retain their fighting weight.
  2. RP: Some of us roleplay characters that are not out adventuring 24/7, but are scholarly types or commoners or fat nobles or whatever, and would like our character’s bodies to reflect that.
  3. “Fat”: There is a LOT of gray area between “athletic” and “fat”. I would like to be somewhere in the middle (what I call “normal”), but even though I made the “fattest” human possible, she still looks like a fashion model with her skinny arms, long legs, and supertight butt. It feels like on a scale of 1 to 10, we get to choose from 1, 2 or 3, and I would like to be a 5.
  4. Clipping: There is also a lot of grey area between the least skinny human female and the skinniest norn male. The norn male body works without the dev having to adjust the male (human) outfit overly much (if at all), so why would that be an issue for female body types? Besides, some NPCs (female norn) already HAVE plumper bodies that lie outside of the character creation slider scale, without any clipping issues.

Why are the skins disappeaing?

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Pixelpumpkin.4608

Pixelpumpkin.4608

People, who trade in those skins, would be able to pick up a box, then a couple of months later be able to choose, which weapon they want (obviously the most expensive one). Not sure, if that is a good change or not.

So all weapon skins of one set would even out in price over time and all be the same price – what’s bad about that? Does a trident HAVE to be cheaper than a greatsword? If that’s the worst that can happen, I completely don’t see the issue.

/Shrugs.

Why are the skins disappeaing?

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Pixelpumpkin.4608

Pixelpumpkin.4608

Indeed. My suggestion to them was that if space is an issue, then restructure the way the skins are given out.

1. Instead of having each separate skin listed there, combine them all into a single Weapon Box (e.g. Fused Weapon Box, Lovestruck Weapon Box). You open the box and you pick the skin you want.

2. Consolidate all the different Weapon Boxes into categories. For example, you can have a “Season 1” category for Fused/Sclerite/Dreamthistle skins, a “Festivals” category for Lovestruck/Halloween/Wintersday skins etc.

You now have saved a lot of space, and you can still keep all the weapon skins permanently available.

Would work perfectly for me.

The only “downside” I see with weapon crates is that you wouldn’t be able to preview all the weapon skins when talking to the NPC, but as we have access to those previews through our own bank, this is kind of a non-issue.

(Although I suppose it would be easy to add a dialogue option to the BL Weapon Trader NPCs that allows you to open your wardrobe.)

As for removing skins at all… I said in another thread:

  • I am okay with festival-type skins only being available during the actual festival, but recurring once a year – Lovestruck, Dragon Jade, Wintersday etc. weapons.
  • I am not really okay with arbitrarily removing the other weapon skins. Who does that serve? It means that 1) ANet will sell fewer BL keys as the skins people would like to pick up for their character (for instance Dreamthistle) aren’t available, and might not return. And b) ANet JUST introduced the collections – I hope they didn’t assume that players just had hundreds of BL tickets stashed away to buy entire sets (at 5-7 tickets a skin!!) with a sudden 2 week deadline.

These arguments. Can anyone point to an in-game female Asuran or Charr NPC who is wearing a dress?

Maybe that argument would hold SOME amount of water if player characters had access to NPC outfits, that for Asura include tunics and such, but we don’t.

It strikes me as this is a cultural thing, and that the females of these races just don’t wear dresses.

Secondly, yes, every person is to some degree a product of the culture they grew up in, but as individuals, we can make the decision to step away from cultural uniformity. People do it all the time. So in an MMO**RPG** we expect a degree of freedom there – control over our own character.

In many cases, it is much more fun to play a character that grew up outside their supposed culture, too.

WE tell everybody that GW2 is an amazing game because when it gets boring, you can just leave it for however long and return at any point in time. Revoking people’s post privileges based on in-game activity seems wrong.

Secondly, there is a lot of people who are not playing the game because something or other changed (and shouldn’t have) or didn’t change (but should) – and many of them have stated that they would love to play again if one day x or y or z happens. Why should they not be able to partake in the discussion? They bought the game, same as everybody else.

Thirdly, when I spent 2 months in hospital, I was unable to play, which only meant that I read/posted in the forums all the more.

Pixelpumpkin.4608

Posted this in another thread. I’m not sure if you saw it and responded yet.

You don’t need to make any kills in order to gain credit for participation. You must however use a means to interact with the enemy side to gain the Chest or Splendid Chest. The total points are not relevant to any acquired Chests or Trick-or-Treat Bags.

What does that mean for a villager that successfully hides and “wins” the game? The point of being a villager seems to be to avoid interacting with the enemy as much as possible.

Also, “narrow escape” / dodging ghost attacks doesn’t count as interaction with the enemy then.

All this being said, the achievement text says “x matches played” – not “interacted with enemy in x matches”.

So if the game encourages players to NOT interact with ghosts and then punishes them for it without explaining why, I’ll continue to assume that it is a bug… :/
