Dead players dragging everybody down.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Pixelpumpkin.4608

I’d actually like to see that too. It’s a bit of a drag to have so many dead players just laying there doing nothing except trying to coach the living players. Or the ones who do nothing but repeat “res res”.

My main gripe is that bosses scale according to the amount of bodies, not alive players.

And you know what, I much prefer the idea of fixing that.

Downed players should still upscale an encounter – dead bodies should not.

As a player, I would NOT be happy if my body was auto-waypointed to wherever – I would very much like to retain control over when and where (!) I waypoint.

In-Game Report System Feedback

In the meantime, player input is welcome on how to improve the reporting system. One stipulation: I have never heard internally that there are plans to add the ability to “write notes” in the in-game report system. That may be on the docket, but at this time it would be best to make your suggestions around the existing system and not based on one that would include report notes.

Thank you.

Hi Gaile,

this is the currently active thread:

There have been countless others that all more or less suggested the exact same changes.

If you want to add a comment in that thread to give it exposure, please feel free.

I hope you get this resolved – it was my favourite thread and I really was looking forward to seeing your armor designs every time.

Maybe have a sub-drop menu where it starts as:

‘Inappropriate Naming’ >

then drops to a choice of:

‘Character Name’
‘Guild Name or Tag’
‘Pet Name’

That wouldn’t even be necessary if there was a field for a brief description.

I feel extremely uncomfortable reporting people because of the lack of it.

I need 4 more to finish the collection and hate how rare they are (for me). My husband has finished the collection and has 20+ more fossils >.<

Thankfully, the DTOP guild does T6 maps at least 1-2 times a week so I’ve gotten all the recipes purchased…now to collect more geodes to buy more keys to hopefully get those last 4 I need!

Good luck to you OP!

It may be faster to get them from PvP (at the very least, more reliable). Especially if you’re done with the recipes (the real bottleneck for me).

SUGGESTION: Southsun Revisisted

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Pixelpumpkin.4608

Pixelpumpkin.4608

I wrote this on reddit last week.

  • Map changes: It’s an island risen from the depths – where is the grottoes with their underwater entrances and really weird plant life? I’d also add a waypoint to the center camp, and to the Crab Toss arena.
  • Southsun-specific items:
    • Crab meat as a cooking ingredient. A whack of seafood recipes. I really want to see “Karka Roll”.
    • Crustacean armor and/or weapon skins that look (the sclerite ones sadly didn’t look like they were made out of karka at all – more like the karka shoulders)
  • Vistas in some of the amazing key places; remember where we collected the plant samples during Southsun II?
  • Hearts: I know many people are not fans, but I personally like them. Especially the non-combat activities add a lot of flair to any map. Here’s a few suggestions -
    • Sand pit heart: Assist Advisor Zakk. Find golem parts, kill mosquitos
    • Research camp heart: Assist Researcher Levvi. Ping local flora (additional flowers can be added to the area for this), Protect the area around the camp from karka
    • Owain’s refuge heart: Assist Owain. Kill karka, gather karka eggs (when quest is up), collect some spice from local bushes
    • Non-combat activity at Captain’s Retreat. The tourist beach needs some sort of activity (I imagine Faren and Kasmeer leaving) – maybe serving drinks to tourists, as a change from the “kill this, gather that” type of heart activities.
  • Permanent access to Crab Toss by walking (err, swimming) up to the actual arena, like access to Keg Brawl used to be.
  • Permanent access to Southsun Survival, but in my opinion, Survival should be moved to a separate island (only available as activity instance) as it makes absolutely no sense to have that and regular Southsun exist in the same location and the same time in the same universe. Please. This separate island would be much smaller and more hostile (Southsun Survival only uses half the map now anyway).
  • Bosses – I get what they tried with the karka queen / liberating the camps; but I think it should be changed. The camps, or some of them anyway should be inhabited by NPCs so if they’re under siege it actually means something. And I think we could do with more bosses than just the three mean karkas (two champs and the queen). A legendary reefrider boss would be pretty mean (I imagine the fight to be similar to the big jellyfish in the underwater fractal).
  • Interesting NPCs: Priory explorers, OOW and vigil members, the Consortium, pirates, settlers, shady merchants, vacationers, treasure hunters, Job-o-tron…
  • Etc. etc. etc.: PvP reward track, random Southsun items collection, a collection of just Southsun-related minis
  • Southsun dungeon:

Southsun dungeon, partly under water but partly not. Including all the known Southsun elements as well as new ones (DSD tentacle stuff! Krakens! Etc.) I imagine that while you explore the dungeon, the waterlevel rises, so a specific boss fight might be above or below water level, depending which path you go/which order you do the boss rooms in.

Story-wise, one of the paths could be Priory/DSD investigation related; another one OOW/Consortium... I never bought the story that the consortium just wanted to make Southsun a vacation place – they must have been looking for some sort of treasure! A third path could be Vigil vs. pirates.

  • Map mechanics

Now after Dry Top and Silverwastes, I think the Southsun map could be subject to the tides or currents or monsoon-like rain or a different natural force similar to the sandstorm. Maybe the meta could be required to open the entrance to the dungeon.

There is a lot of visual beauty in Southsun and it is an absolute shame that the map isn’t chock-full of awesomeness and interesting NPCs. If ANet can make a desert one of the most interesting places to be, then certainly an almost tropical island can’t be that hard to make appealing.

[Suggestion] Missing collection achievements

There’s a lot of potential fascinating collections out there that aren’t just collections of weapon or armor skins.

Collections that require the character to travel the world, use items, do mini-dungeons and see stuff that they had previously missed.

I suggest

  • the Keys collection – use a variety of keys and lockpicks, including everything from sand chests to Oola’s Lab.
  • Meaningful Mini collections – collect all moas! Collect all of Destiny’s Edge minis! Collect all Hylek/Centaurs/watchwork etc. minis!

So far I found the jars/steaks/etc vastly more interesting than the armor collections.

do the math. even if you take a fresh account and do 12 dailies a day it will take you about 2 years and 8 months to get to 10k daily ap cap. so regardless of how long u been playing it doesnt take long to hit the cap.

Like I said, if after 2 years and 8 months you still think that the permanent achievements are too hard, then you’re probably really not into GW2 and have long wandered off.

Besides, there’s no way to do the dailies without ALSO getting AP in other, permanent achievements – daily kills leads to weapon mastery and slayer achievements, daily recycler leads to Agent of Entropy, WvW and PvP achievements will fill up slowly but steadily, daily activities come with their own achievements you get just by doing them, same for jumping puzzles…

New Narrative Director at ANet

in Living World

Posted by: Pixelpumpkin.4608

Pixelpumpkin.4608

Hi folks! Now that I’ve settled in a bit at ANet, I wanted to check in again on this thread. The first Living World episode that I was involved in, “Echoes of the Past,” has now been live for a few days. We’ve all been really pleased that people seem to be enjoying the story and content a lot. But I’d love to ask you all for more specifics. What were your favorite narrative moments? What did you like about the content? About the way it was told? And of course, I want to hear what you think we can still do better on.

Thanks in advance to everyone for their comments. I’m very excited to be part of such a great game, and to work with such an excellent team of creative people.

Hi Leah! Belated welcome to GW2!

I will try to keep this brief and east to skim-read.

Good job, well done. The Salma instance and Caithe’s Recon were both very decent. Short, but fun. The Hidden Arcana on the other hand had both the excellent and the bad aspects.

Positive

  1. Good: good amount of content (even though it was “only” 3 chapters an “only” 2 of them had achievements)
  2. Good: Using books/artifacts in the library. Active character approach. But making it not too much of a paper chase for impatient players either. It almost felt a little like a n old-fashioned point-and-click adventure, and who doesn’t like those. The same goes for the lecture at the priory that we witness at the beginning of the Arcana instance – I got some serious Lucas Arts Indiana Jones vibes there.

Negative

  1. Bad: The Hidden Arcana was too long and should have been 2 or even 3 separate chapters. Especially felt too long on subsequent runs for achievements or skins because you couldn’t skip the dialogue.
  2. Bad: Pacing was weird in the first chapter (at Fort Salma) – my character was still whacking foes while the NPCs were somewhere completely different, talking to each other. I think I missed some stuff there. I think that’s just a technical issue.

Suggestions:

  1. Separate “mostly narrative” content and “mostly action / achievement” content into different chapters, so achievement runs don’t require you to read all the books and do all the dialogues again.
  2. All dialogue should be skippable, but only on subsequent runs. But the scene at the end with the egg should have been the only one not to be skippable, as some players need the help of experiences players on their first run and end up not even seeing it as someone else skips it for them. Or maybe each player should be able to decide for themselves whether to skip or not, like in dungeons.
  3. Consider creating 2 modes for the “story” run – one for players that fancy themselves explorer types and would actually like to solve riddles themselves – and one for players who lack the attention span or are too tired. i.e.: give players the option to disable the green stars that point them to the exact book to read. I think quite a few players would like that.

That’s about all I can think of right now. I enjoyed it a lot, and I kept finding new cool things in subsequent runs, so I was quite okay with running the same instances several times.

They should add “Unidentified Fossilized Insects” to the drop list from the chests on the new map. What’s the point of getting insane amounts of ambrite, if you have nothing to do with it. Fossils are already a pain to get in dry top. Since you can open like 50 chests and won’t get a single one.

And what good are fossils when you don’t get geodes for the recipes? So you have to go to Dry Top at any rate.

By the time you’ve maxed out on daily AP, you’ll either

  • have been here long enough that most static AP are not a challenge for you anymore (including festival and living story achievements, activities, you’ll be rich enough to outright buy collection items and minis, you’ll have maxed your crafting, you’ll have weapon mastery / slayer and personal story achievements…)

or

  • have long lost interest in GW2 and moved on to some other game.

I have 16k AP and I am FAR from reaching the daily/monthly limits, and I’ve played since release.

Autobalance

in PvP

Posted by: Pixelpumpkin.4608

Pixelpumpkin.4608

never understood the concept of leaving a fight even if losing.. especially when its a fight in an imaginary world for imaginary fame and imaginary loot.

What part of your Ego tells you to swap teams ?
Or is it the 5 extra copper you get for winning?

I truly don’t get it.

Some people want their shiny loot boxes (or armor skins or whatever) as fast as possible, and/or have less time to play the game, and therefore try to maximize (reward track progress)/(time spent). I get it. (Like poster said above, sometimes when you join the losing team you will have a hard time to even cap one thing or get one kill to qualify for LOSING points at all.)

Some players just enjoy beating the hell out of others a whole lot more than being beaten bloody by the overstacked team. I get that, too.

Some people need quick wins for “Monthly PvP wins”. Some people want to max their stomping or kills achievements. Some people want rank asap because they want the Tiger finisher so badly. I get all of those.

What really should set in is an internal conflict between “I want instant gratification” and “everybody else is here to have fun, too” – a moral dilemma. What kittenes me off is that “Stop qq, it’s only hotjoin”, like it is okay in hotjoin to play in the ost selfish way, has been used to much that almost the entire community has started believing it.

And while I tried for the longest time to be fair and honorable in hotjoin and always join the understacked team, there are strings of losing one match after the other, and it gets to me. And then I think, who am I putting myself through this for? Stackers who reap reward after reward for their anti-social gaming? And sometimes I have enough and join the team that is slightly ahead in points or holds more cap points or whatever. Or mess around on farming servers – at least I don’t get in other people’s way that way. Let’s say I go through phases.

Autobalance

in PvP

Posted by: Pixelpumpkin.4608

Pixelpumpkin.4608

Well, if you join onto the winning team later, no, you don’t get the full 500 points. Of course it is more profitable to join the winning team, but it kind of sucks that the only strategy in hotjoin is to get an early headstart and then outnumber the other team until the end.
(That being said, every now and then I have been in balanced hotjoin matches that were head-to-head and very much fun to play. It happens – it just happens less and less as people get better at circumventing the mechanisms that were put in place to ensure balanced teams.)

- make win/loss rewards equal, and slightly lower than current win rewards? Make it more about playing casually on a map than about which team wins – could go with like a 25 point bonus for winning or something iunno. Certainly make it better than 2/5 of win for a loss.
- stop people from choosing team. This could be done by not allowing people to join the match if they’ve spectated at all (and not letting folks see who was on which team before choosing). It could even just be done by instantly putting folks onto random teams when they clicked the ’play now’ button.
- implement some kind of autobalance or queueing system that didn’t allow teams to have uneven numbers. Game is a 5v4? Within 10s someone on the 5 gets made to sit out (probably with a volunteer option, and with all their time in this timeout counting towards rewards). They get brought back in as soon as there’s another player joining the other team. It could probably be gamed, but certainly not so much as the current mess.
Forcing autobalance feels unfair if you’ve worked hard to be winning, sure… but in most cases, you’ve kinda not. You’ve been outnumbering your foes for a significant period and their team’s not going to get anyone new to help out.

Well, can’t disagree with your conclusions, there.

ESL Prize Money Discrimination

in PvP

Posted by: Pixelpumpkin.4608

Pixelpumpkin.4608

But how much are goods in Europe? If they cost more, then the Europeans aren’t really benefiting more are they? If Europeans get 2 times more money from the contest, but a loaf of bread is 2 times as much as it is here, they aren’t getting anymore money in reality.

That’s exactly not how it works. If 1€ equals 1.25$, then that means that if you own 1€ you can buy just as much as you can buy with 1.25$. So, if a loaf of bread is 1€ in Europe, the same loaf would be 1.25$ in America. You can basically exchange 1000€ for 1000 loafs of bread then, but 1000$ will only be worth 800 loafs of bread, and you’d actually need 1250$ for 1000 loafs.
This is only a simplified version and it’s a lot more complex in reality of course. But it’s more or less the general idea behind currency exchange.

If your example was true, everyone would be buying cheap bread for $ in America, sell it for double price in Europe, exchange the earned € for $, repeat and get infinitely rich.

People do that left right and center. Have you never wondered why 90% of your household items and clothes are produced in poorer countries?

I went on a business trip to India 2 years ago. Exchanged some euros for rupees so I could go shopping. I bought a 3-color silk saree as a present for my sister. It cost me ~15 euros (~ $20). That is several meters of woven silk with gold patterns in. A similar product costs upward of $300 when you purchase it in the US.

I also got a saree for myself and had the blouse custom tailored. The money the tailor took for his work was about 50 cents. That’s about what I pay for my plastic shopping bag in a German supermarket.

So, that is really not how it works at all. You CAN get rich by exchanging currencies, and actually, your and my general first world wealth and quality of life only exist because people on the other end of the currency exchange are much poorer, in both absolute AND relative terms.

Pixelpumpkin.4608

This has got to be the most kittened mechanic. You start a match, play your guts out beat the other side..they rage quit and then you get thrown on the other side.
This just leads to me rage quitting and letting someone else feel just as good as i did.
Just let the match finish.
Every time i get auto balance, i just find another game.
Hope that works as intended.

Everytime I get autobalanced, I’m super happy. Not only do I get a guaranteed win no matter what happens next in game (plus 25 progression for having autobalanced), I’m also on the side that is a lot more exciting to play on. Nothing’s more boring than zerging aorund in a group of 5, completely annihilating a group of 3 every time. So when the autobalancer is used to actually balnce the team, it’s only good stuff all around!

The thing that I find super annoying is people forcing autobalances by leaving the losing team just so they can proceed to join the winning team shortly after the forced autobalance. This just makes sure that the overstacked team stays overstacked, and defeats the purpose of the mechanism. In my opinion, this should be considered an exploit.

[Suggestion] Currencies & The Wallet

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Pixelpumpkin.4608

Pixelpumpkin.4608

The devs have said before that they don’t want seasonal / holiday currencies in the wallet because they don’t want to clutter it with stuff you won’t need and that serves no purpose 99% of the time. And I can kind of see their point there, although I’d still favor a separate tab or something just to get some of that out of the bank while still keeping it from cluttering the wallet. Just throw a tab on the side for “Holiday currency” so that it remains hidden.

Cluttered? Nobody forced them to use a grid layout.

In my opinion, the wallet could (should) have been a list with collapsible sections.

Seasonal currencies that weren’t relevant at the time would be in the “Seasonal” section further down and could easily be collapsed and then ignored.

If you needed physical items of a currency for MF recipes or the likes, you could go to a dedicated NPC vendor and exchange x amount of the currency into physical items.

Not really. In real life, they’re separate items, and if you afford the storage, you get to keep as many different sweaters as you want and you can wear them as often as you want. In guild wars you have the same option.

Guild wars FURTHER give you the option to change the look of one physical item into something else. In real life you would have to pay a tailor, and it would be a lot more limited AND a lot more costly than one transmutation charge.

The achievement only progresses when you “engage with the enemy”. It progresses for sure when you kill a villager or kill a ghost. It won’t progress if you hide all game, or if you only do damage without getting a kill.

Lunatic Inquisition hiding spot

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Pixelpumpkin.4608

Pixelpumpkin.4608

That’s kitten poop, I have won a few matches as a villager just by moving around or getting away from ghosts by jumping off the edge of the map at the right moment. I also have been killed as a ghost, by villagers who actually made a bit of an effort, many times.

If you want to talk about legitimate, as-intended strategies to win as villagers: group together, get hammers, move as a group, clobber the ghosts, get shotguns, win.

Or be the last villager standing and mow down ghosts with the chainsaw.

These are the strategies that were obviously intended, and they work well when people bother to use them.

MKS spam locks villagers out of any offensive options because those are all tied to bundles that are forcibly dropped and cannot be picked up until a villager responds to the MKS or lets it expire and becomes stunned. Each ghost can do this five times in quick succession. Show pics or video of you overcoming this to win or it didn’t happen.

In real life, if you played tag as a child and there was one “safe spot” (like a pole that you could run to and touch) and you’d be the lame kid that just stood there with their hand on the pole, the other kids would just wander off and play marbles instead.

Lunatic Inquisition is not like tag.

It is totally like tag. With one kid sitting in a tree and singing “nee nah nee nah”. * claps *

I have not recorded anything – my laptop struggles with GW2 as it is, right now – and I’m done with my 80 rounds of Inquisition for this year, so no, sadly I have no videos or screenshots. So no, you don’t have to take my word for it. * shrugs *

About “Mad King Says”, as somebody who has played mostly as a ghost this year (hiding became boring pretty quick), there is only one MKS (dance) that is really dangerous – most of the other animations are pretty quick. Some villagers are really good at dodging them, too. Then there is a global cooldown, too, so no, you can’t actually use them in quick succession, unless there are several ghosts on your tail. Countless times a villager has been running away from me and “spamming” all the MKS on them wasn’t enough to close the gap and get near enough them to actually get a hit in – the ghosts run that much slower. All a villager has to do is break the line of sight by running around a corner and MKS goes into nowhere, and the villager has all the time in the world to run off while the ghost is on cooldown while running a speed that is like wading through pudding.

So, I don’t know, maybe you want to upload a video of a single villager running away from you as a single ghost and pinning them down with MKS skills so much that they can’t escape despite being 50% faster than you? Be my guest. :P

Accessing this area is a legitimate strategy, the only legitimate strategy that villagers have. I will stand corrected when someone shows me a series of themselves claiming victory over the ghosts as a villager using any other method.

I guess most players don’t, because they’re lazy and it’s just easier to afk in a corner, or to play as a ghost. Solo roaming as a ghost (and getting achievement reward progression) is easier than solo roaming as a villager. The laziest way of all the ways to play this game though is so stand in a “safe corner” and wait for the timer to run out. It is so incredibly lazy and lame that you should be ashamed.

In real life, if you played tag as a child and there was one “safe spot” (like a pole that you could run to and touch) and you’d be the lame kid that just stood there with their hand on the pole, the other kids would just wander off and play marbles instead. If you want to be that person, go ahead, but if this wasn’t just a 2 week activity but a permanent one and ANet started banning people for disrupting the actual game, I wouldn’t shed a tear.

It… does not. I believe there is “Mad King Says” and “no Mad King Says” variants for every emote, and you get a random selection each round.

I distinctly remember (from this year) “You should act SURPRISED!” “Did you hear me say ‘Mad King Says’? No!” and other such strings.

The “Mad King Says” ones are in the majority (I guess to give people enough to do to not get bored) but the other ones are definitely in there!

I don’t know why <mail delivery animal> isn’t configurable on account or even character level. I’m sure quite a few people would buy a “messenger crow”, “messenger owl”, “messenger imp”, “Asura drone” etc. from the gem store for 150-350 gems. There are so many flying (and swimming…) environmental creatures (including all the necessary animations) in GW2 already, seems like an easy way for them to print money.

There could also be festival-related “special” ones to collect.

If we could equip them on a per-character level, like unlimited gathering tools, I’d buy different ones for most of my characters. Roleplayers would love this, too, I’m certain.

I honestly wouldn’t even mind that much if I had to pay 1-6 transmutation charges every time I changed my entire outfit from “cusotm A” to “custom B”. If only I could save the templates somewhere.

I like “Shedim”, especially as it fits right in with the Largos, who probably know a lot more about the sea dragon than we do at this point in time.
