Reddit community agrees that 300 gold for a color is an outrage:
It’s 300g for an account bound Commander Tag. The color choice is simply icing.
Now if they don’t offer a way for duplicates to pick a different color then I’m disappointed.
They don’t.

My theory is that Caithe’s secret we learned during the Twilight Arbor Aetherpath, is this:
When speaking with Trahearne about the attack, saying it was too well timed, Caithe may have tipped off Mordremoth about the Summit, and got the Shadow of the Dragon sent there.
Of course I would hate for it to be true, but I figured the theory isn’t bad
Why? It got the leaders to agree that Mordremoth should get priority.

As a non-WvW player, I agree that there should be armor that you can buy exclusively with badges of honor.
Just please make it one set per armor weight, and not “platemail for all”.

I wouldn’t mind 300g for a tag with selectable colors, but 300 gold for a tag that is just one color…that’s just…gah.
Especially with a super-limited selection of colors, none of which I like.

After some research and a few “trial and error” thing I have came to some possible cause or at least I got some light on this. My tests were basically moving and resizing around the window and then relogging. I haven’t tested changing maps or something like. Tests were done on windowed (no border) mode in 1024 × 768 screen res. Inventory window were mostly 10 slots wide. Here is what I have noted:
- #1: While I was doing some tests I noted that if parts of the window would be hover certain areas the window would move to a certain spot after each log on. Also in these cases the window would open by itself after log on. (pic 1)
- #2: Putting the window on a certain area wouldn’t cause the window to move neither reopen itself. (pic 2)
- #3: Putting the window in a way that its borders touches certain areas would cause the bug making the window to shrink by 2 slots less. (pic 3 and 4) The last pic (5) just shows how the window looked like when the bug triggered.
I hope this can help to give some insight or some direction on where to look for a cause. I’ll try to repeat it on a different screen res at some point.
A side note: putting the window in a way that more than half of the achievement UI or mini-map gets covered (but no parts of it gets off-screen) and then closing and reopening the window causes the window to shrink to its minimal size (4 slots wide) as if it went partially off-screen.
Thanks that is massively helpful. This is exactly how I have my inventory window (rows of 10) and it is very noticeable when it shrinks to rows of 9.
At least now I know why it happens more often when I use lower resolutions…
Also thanks for saving me having to take screenshots myself.

I think 300 gold is very, very much if there really is only the 4 colors shown in the preview – that means that people will still be wearing the same color tags all the time which helps with nothing. This is supposed to encourage players to get the different colors, upping the price from (formerly) 100 gold to 1200 for 4 colors. Erhm… by Grabhtar’s Hammer, what a price increase!!
I’d be willing to pay:
- 100 gold per color, or
- 300 gold to be able to put in my own hex code once,
- 600 gold for the ability to switch to any color on the fly.
Furthermore I support the notion that people should be able to pay for them (in part) with WvW badges. They should not be required (PvE commanders exist and are useful, just look at world bosses, Dry Top or rebuilding Lion’s Arch).

This is what I do:
Sell:
- whites (they do not give MF when salvaged)
- blues and greens > 1 silver
- yellows and oranges (except if I really want the skin)
- salvage items
Salvage:
- blues and greens < 1 silver
- salvage items and other items if I haven’t reached daily/monthly
That’s my default, but when I’m in a specific situation (in need of specific mats, or ectos, or whatever) I make exceptions.

I play mostly PvE, and I have no problem with it. Seriously, if you want the armor parts so bad, do what I do and play a bit of hotjoin on the side. You don’t have to be good. Even if you keep losing, you never walk away with 0 points. Those reward tracks will fill up, for some players sooner and for others more slowly. You will also pick up some achievement points on the way and a bunch of champion loot, level tomes, etc.
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
All you have to do is wait until ANet comes up with a solution.
Nobody forces anybody to craft everything from scratch.
You got a nice cheap headstart on Mawdrey II, which means that in the end you will have spent less money than the rest of us – enjoy it. The skin will be unlocked later.

Yes, you can go anywhere on the map without having played through the story instances.
I just want to say that I didn’t FIND how to get to the Northern part of the map until I played the story instance. Those instances show you directly where to go. Why would you not want to play them
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
Iirc, you can get it again by playing the story with an alt.

The price for iron is higher because the demand is higher because the usefulness is higher.
In real life the price for iron would be higher too, due to its usefulness compared to gold, but in real life, people like to wear gold as jewelry – something that in RL other people see, but in GW2 is useless as a status symbol.
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
Oh right. I forgot about back items.
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
There hasn’t been one.
There’s been some speculation from the players. I personally think they forgot to put it back on when they redesigned the UI for the wardrobe stuff. And then decided it wasn’t worth the effort to fix it later.
Makes me sad. But yeah, I’d also like to hear something official.

There have been a lot of different replies in here, some more helpful than others. I’ll summarize it for you so you don’t get lost:
Leveling your first character to 80
- Completing maps in starter cities: Explore your own “racial capital”, and then, through the use of pink asura portals, explore Lion’s Arch and the other cities as well. You get xp for points of interests, vistas and waypoints. They will also give you access to the 4 other starter areas.
- Explore more than one starter area (that is the level 5 -15 maps)
- Dynamic events grant the most xp, partake in them at every chance you get
- Exploration for the first time is the most fun, enjoy it while it lasts and try not to rush yourself too much
- Keep an eye on daily achievements for daily xp bonuses
- Do the “personal story” together with your friends, along the way whenever you hit the suggested level for a chapter
- Get map-appropriate gathering tools and gather the wood, ore and vegetables you encounter.
- Craft
- Revive players and NPCs
- Run with your friends, you can also team up with other players you encounter. It makes everything much easier then when you run solo!
- Eat food / drink potions for bonus xp.
Leveling further characters (‘alts’) to 80
- Edge of the Mists (EotM): this is a variant of World vs. World, which means you’ll fight other players. It is more hostile and your well-being will depend more on wearing suitable armor and weapons, as well as running in a sizable zerg. If you’re in a zerg, it is one of the more efficient ways to level up, but it isn’t something you can (efficiently) do casually on your own or just with your friend, especially when you’re new to the game.
- Normal World vs. World: see EotM, just slower leveling. Some people love it, some people hate it; It’s not something I personally would have liked to do in my first few months of GW2.
- “Champion trains”: champions are tougher to beat versions of the enemies you encounter in open world. Some “trains” (zergs) move through a map from champ to champ to champ (knowing their spawning locations) and beat the same ones over and over. It is good xp and loot, but very very repetitive, not to mention stressful for new players who don’t know the chat abbreviations and may have trouble to keep up the speed of jumping all over the map.
- Dungeons: Are a lot harder than open world maps, and require a bit of experience and some guidance. Don’t tackle them too early on or be prepared to be put in your place and be frustrated. Later on, team up with some people who know the dungeons well.
- Fractals: same as dungeons, with the potential to be even harder. Best to leave them for later.
- PvP: players fight each other in groups of 5 (sometimes up to 8) people for “capture the flag” type matches that last 5-15 minutes. Try it, it might be your thing. You will win “PvP xp” which is called rank points, and every so many rank points the game rewards you with an item to level up your character. If you love it, go for it. If not, leave it for later.
- Key farming: This means creating throwaway characters and replaying the personal story to level 10, collecting and keeping the rewards to use on your main character. generally seen as a hellish grind and a surefire way to lose interest in GW2 early on. You can always do this after 2 years when you’re bored with the rest of GW2 like us.

Iron is more useful than gold, in real life too.
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
I leveled all crafts on my main as I knew I was going to keep this character forever (and the decision was made before the account-wide wallet, that also played a role). Since all you craft is either free or account bound, but never soul bound, it made sense to me to have a designated crafter. Bonus, I never use a recipe on the wrong character…
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
A.k.a. The least fun way to level up ever. Why would you send a newbie through the repetitive and dreary hell of key-farming? They have so many awesome things to discover. Next you’ll send them on the champ train.
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
I just posted about this, too! 3 threads down.
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
Rather than that, I’d prefer it if there was a simple check that sees if the character you’re trying to learn the recipe on qualifies for the recipe, and it pops up a warning window if you’re not.
“You are not high enough level in Armorsmithing to use this recipe! Are you sure you want to learn it on this character?”
If the recipe matches the type of character you want to unlock it on, the name of the profession on the bottom is green. So if you’re on a character, about to unlock say an artificer recipe and the word artificer isn’t in green, you’re not on an artificer.
But if I remember correctly, it only means that you’re not CURRENTLY an artificer. You may still have leveled artificer to 400 and then switched to something else (I switch my crafts around all the time). So this is not the best indicator to check. Right? Or am I remembering this wrong?
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
My answer would be no.
I’ve played fractals quite a bit and I never had enough resources to make the back item. The blade skittene was comparatively easy to make.
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
And one more addendum – Daily Achievements can be a nice fat bonus if you bother with them too.
Yep, I just came back to add that to my post; now I don’t have to.
Another thing is that there’s hardly anything in GW2 that doesn’t give you xp. Are you gathering materials (wood, ore, vegetables) and reviving NPCs? That can also give you a nice head start in the early levels. But generally, dynamic events and daily achievements are the most efficient.
I have one more advice: for many players (me included) exploration is/was the favorite aspect of GW2. Don’t be in such a hurry to level and see all the maps. Take your time to take in the sights and marvel at the first impressions. Listen to the NPCs It’s all stuff that you can only do once for the first time, and I’m glad I took my sweet time with it.
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
Hi guys, my friends and I have been trying to play GW2 for a while now and never seem to be a high enough level to move on to the next area safely even though we have just completed the previous one
It seems like you stick to your “homelands” (which race did you guys pick?).
Go to your city and find the pink portal. If you enter it, it will take you to Lion’s arch, which then also has portals to the other 4 “racial capital cities”. From there you will reach 4 more low level maps, all with hearts and points of interests and vistas and what not.
Generally, the quickest way to level is partaking in dynamic events, although map exploration/completing (including the cities!) adds a nice fat bonus.
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
I haven’t deleted any ascended mats yet, mainly because I’m not done leveling all my crafts from 400 to 500. So whenever I’m in the mood to do that, I refine all that dust and dragonite and save myself some money in the early levels.
Once I’m done with this (not really being in a hurry), no idea what I’ll do. They really do keep piling up.

Is Poutine even known outside of Quebec + neighbouring regions?
Not really….I had to look it up. We just call it Gravy Fries w/ Cheese, down here in the Deep South.
While potatoes + gravy (and in some cases, grated cheese) is not seen as revolutionary anywhere in northern and eastern Europe… poutine does not simply have cheese on top, but cheese curds (the fresher, the better). It doesn’t make a lot of difference to me, but my Canadian family told me off for my ignorance.
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
I support the addition of poutine to the game, but only after having made crab meat a cooking ingredient, karka rolls as a recipe, and generally adding seafood.

When reward tracks were implemented, ANet said that they were going to release new ones as part of the living story chapters. Am I the only one who was actually looking forward to those?
We are now 3 (4 as of tomorrow) chapters into season 2 – many think that the mid-season break marks “half-time” – and I don’t see a PvP reward track implemented.
It would have been easy to add a reward track that rewards a small number of geodes, a foxfire on completed tiers, and a fossilized insect upon completion. This would have fixed the issue that some players, thanks to RNG, just can’t get a fossil, no matter how hard they try.
I am not saying this because I want “free stuff” (in fact, I have the ambrite skins I wanted, and I’m done with the backpack item for now, and I also made some sweet profit selling time-gated plant food on the TP in the last two weeks. I feel I got my time’s worth. But I do also feel for players who prefer to spend the majority of their time in PvP and who were promised otherwise.)
Does this mean that ANet has abandoned the idea? Or will something be added later to keep us busy during the mid-season break? Or maybe the thought just never occurred? Which is it? I’d love to know.
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
I don’t think ANet even has a booth. IIRC, they just said “come visit us at the twitch booth”, and the PvP thing.
Based on that, I do not expect any announcements.

Usability improvements / UI changes:
- Remember whether I last sorted alphabetically or by price.
- Add an option to filter by armor weight.
- Fix the sorting in the categories.
- Add a category for back items.
- Add an option to show only unlocked/locked skins.
- Add an option to show only unlocked/locked recipes.
- Add an option to show only unlocked/locked dyes.
Gem store:
Style section
- In the style section, allow us to filter the armor by armor weight.
- Allow us to preview individual armor skins together with the rest of our outfit. (Right now, armor skins that are technically usable by all armor weights think that they are “heavy armor” so when I preview them with a character of medium or light armor class, they will always be naked in the preview. If I preview on a heavy armor class, they will always wear their armor.)
- Better yet, allow us to choose whether to preview the armor piece on our naked OR dressed character.
- For complete armor sets, allow us to preview specific pieces. Many of us buy armor sets to mix and match with our existing pieces and would appreciate if we could preview them and check for clipping, etc.
- Add dye channels to the preview, like the “normal” preview window has.
- Equally, the preview of weapon skins should have the same options as the normal preview, i.e. look at the weapon stowed, drawn, and on its own.
- It would be super awesome if we could zoom in to see detail.
Other
- Add a preview for minis.
- Allow us to buy gems with as many USD/EUR as we want, not just increments of 10. Lower the minimum gem order to 5. (Allow micro-payments to be micro.)
Bugs:
- When selecting “sell at TP” from the inventory, often the sell dialog won’t fully load until I select a different item. It then jumps back to the original item. This causes 3 times as many clicks as it should.
- When selecting “sell at TP” from the inventory, it will display the “sell” page, but the tab selected on the left will be that of the “buy” page. So if I want to buy something after selling, I first have to select any other tab and then go back to the “buy” tab.
- Sometimes the wrong item is sold (for the price of a different item). This also leads to unintended overpriced sell orders and keeps costing us money.
- “Error attempting to sell”, should be removed altogether or at the very least get a more descriptive error message.
- In the “buy” list view, something sometimes doesn’t fully load so you don’t get the item pop-ups on mouse-over.
- People should not be able to put in buy orders for a price below the minimum sell price (they can never be filled), and such existing buy orders should be removed.
What did I forget?

I do a lot of guessing. The bright side is, sometimes people correct me. Thanks for sharing your perspective. Widens my view on it.

Like I said, I did it for something to do.
I am now at a point where I have done most things, acquired all the skins I want, picked up most of the achievements on the way… it gave me something to do.
For me it really isn’t a status symbol. For starters, the way things are going, nobody’s ever going to see my underwater weapon. Secondly, it is not a status symbol the same way as a gaining frequent flyer gold status with all economy flights: it is less “look how kitten I am!” and more “what am I doing with my life??”
So you really shouldn’t assume that everybody has the same priorities or reasons.
With the old system, I will not craft another legendary. It was, all in all, too costly (the T6 mats were the WORST). If ANet ever release their treasure hunt-paper chase- story/mission based legendary crafting, I might go for it, because why not…I wouldn’t want to miss out and as long as it is even remotely fun, it’ll give me something to do.
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
Why make the recipe item account bound when the recipe itself will be soul bound? It obviously creates costly misunderstandings all the time.
I haven’t made the mistake, but I really only play one character and spend more time on the forums than is good for me. If not for the fact that plenty of players have run into this problem, it wouldn’t be obvious to me at all. (Same with the “unique” items that you can buy two, but only equip one of. That mistake has been made by SO many players that I seriously wonder WHY ANet wouldn’t take the 5 seconds to reword the thing, or the 25 minutes to create a technical solution/pop up.)
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
I never encountered any other player wielding Frenzy, no. Not that it would bother me, I don’t pick weapon and armor skins for their “exclusivity”.
I did it for something to do.
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
I craft ascended armor pieces for the stats.
Then I use any combination of skins I fancy that day.
The ascended armor came with a new skin because people keep asking for new skins and if it had been a kittenty reskin people would have gone nuts.
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
If I worked at ANet, I’d be asking to see data for at least 10,000 if not 50,000 chests before authorizing someone to spend a lot of time investigating this.
Ironically, it would be relatively easy for ANet to produce such data via a script, but difficult (not to mention costly) for the player base who have to collect the data manually.
Following this argument, ANet could make up whatever story and then just ask the playerbase to prove that they didn’t get what they paid for. Sweet deal for ANet, I guess.
