How does my character know Mordremoth?

in Living World

Pixelpumpkin.4608

We have spent a lot of time reading Scarlet’s 28475 different journals in story instances of season 1 and 2. You’d think that the name was mentioned somewhere.

But alternatively, I’m also pretty okay with it being common knowledge.

And what’s more, it’s just a name. It’s just what people call the plant dragon. Like… “The Sunless”. Or “Tequatl”. I doubt that any of them named themselves. It’s just some convention that makes communicating easier.

Only treants count for “Plant Slayer”.

In my opinion, hostile bushes should count too.

Mordremoths minions though should not – the other dragon minions have their own slayer achievements, so that should be “Blighted Bane” or something along those lines.

Eternity is currently 4900 gold. That is something like 60.000 gems or EUR 750 or USD 1000, from what I can tell right now looking at the trading post.

There is something wrong with your calculation, according to gw2spidy 1g costs only 0.15 USD to buy through gems. So 4900 × 0.15 = only 735 USD.

My GW2 client only presents me with the euros – 5k gold would cost 750 euros. I converted to dollars from there.

Anyway, it’s not about whether you can afford to buy something for 750 dollars (or euros…). I spend a multiple of that each month. On rent. And food. And possibly other things with a practical use, such as car maintenance, insurances, or even a TV.

Other people take out a mortgage and buy a house for 350 000 dollars and for the occasion, that is “affordable”, and they still wouldn’t spend the same money on an in-game item, because that would be completely stupid.

So… yeah… how many people, do you reckon, have done that? Taken a thousand real dollars out of the bank to buy an in-game sword?

As far as I can tell, 99.9% of the playerbase fall into one of two categories: those that have an income but adult person worries such as mortgages and little time, and those that are very dedicated to the game, and spend more time playing than working, and thus do not have htat kind of pocket money.

Of course not, that would make the entire concept of legendary weapons obsolete. Not to mention kitten off every single player that has spent countless hours farming T6 materials and other resources. Crafting a legendary is SUPPOSED to be the grindiest, most ridiculous thing in game, to give people something to do.

Took me almost two years (I just crafted mine two days ago).

Buy exotic weapon on TP that has the same skin as your legendary of choice

Bam… instant legendary in both stats and looks. The only difference will be the weapon name, and all that is good for is for pinging it in chat to show off.

GW2 brings a short story to play through once, maybe a second time for achievements and maybe one more time per alt, plus a new place to grind.
FFxiv adds content, that aims to give the game more longevity.
Not only a story and new raids and dungeons, but also stuff like marks- open world bosses, a whole new class and job, chocobo breeding, housing (seriously, the private and guildhousing in that game is fricking huge), a lot of new quests and side scenarios, a ton of new gear/skins and crafting recipes.

But we did get most of these things during season one. Just going by your own examples:

  • we got story,
  • we got raids and open world boss events (examples: temporary ones like Scarlett invasion, LA destruction and recapturing, boss rush, marionette fight, as well as of course permanent ones such as the jungle wurm, tequatl and the karka queen),
  • we got dungeons (again, temporary ones, but also permanent: Aetherpath, various new fractals),
  • new maps
  • and new jumping puzzles,
  • constant changes to existing maps including “a lot of new quests and side scenarios”.
  • A ton of new gear, skins and crafting recipes were also added, among them a complete new tier (ascended gear, level 500 crafting) and costumes, as well as a constant output of armor skins – some to buy with gems, some to unlock through playing the content.

The only thing on your list that GW2 hasn’t done is player/guild housing, and I’m just as sad about that as everybody else, and a new class, which I personally don’t need. I would have liked more maps. I would have liked one or two new weapon types. Sure. There is a million things I personally want and didn’t get, but please, be fair.

Your post should really have mentioned the wardrobe system, the constant balances and fixes, the mini games and all the other stuff that ANet sneaks in every few weeks.

I know that people are under the impression that the content that ANet put out was less than one expansion’s worth, but that’s simply not true. My guess is, you think that because you completely forget about most of the stuff that has happened (presumably because it is not currently replayable). Such as the Krait Tower, the SAB, the Molten Facility, EotM, new PvP maps, etc. Yes, I know, I know, “[some of] it was temporary so it doesn’t count!” But if you were there and experienced it, it did count. If all that content was still available (somebody PLEASE put together a complete list to whip out in these threads) it would totally, totally be enough for one expansion. For a start, go here and just read the brief summaries to refresh your own memory: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Release

The fact that much of it is inaccessible now has been discussed to death, with the consequence that ANet is trying trying out their new system of the new content being permanent and replayable.

The other problem may be that we got a bunch of new stuff, but maybe not the stuff you want. Some players don’t care about fractals but want mounts, or Cantha, or whatever, and they always look at what they’re NOT getting instead of what is added. I personally don’t run EotM, but I still acknowledge its existence.

Those issues are more to do with your ISP and latency than with the game.

Those are issues that have everything to do with ANet designing things that work perfectly under ideal testing environments, i.e. high end gaming rigs in the same building as the test servers and 10 or so people testing.

For the entire last year these skills have blown up in regular gamers’ faces. I remember one developer publically apologizing after seeing this … the consensus was “maybe this should have been tested under more realistic circumstances” and I believe some of the code was optimized, but overall, well, here we still are.

Where’s the thread about armor equality? Can’t find it right now but basically it said that an armor model should be skimpy or not for both genders, so every player has a lot of choice and it’s all equal and good.

I think it was originally in the suggestions forum so succumbed to the great forum purge, sadly. ’Twas a good thread.

Well, bummer. The discussion in it was a lot less one-sided and made some really, really good points, way beyond “this particular female armor is too skimpy” and “well here is one counter example”.

This whole thread is a personal pet peeve of mine, being a non-native dyslectic English speaker I keep being amazed by the lack of understanding of the English speaking community. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_language

This is the international, official GW2 site, meaning people from all over the world of all ages join in on both this site, as well as the game servers (which as you may or may not know are open to all participants, f/e I play on a US server as a EU player, because the ‘prime times’ line up better in regards to my playing hours). So, in a sense you should always keep in mind that there are thousands of people that do their utmost best to speak their best English, so that those that don’t speak ‘their’ native language can understand them. And while spellcheck might help (for as far as it’s not polluted, or for as far as people themselves know differences in ‘Their, They’re, There, Etc, words that might all show up as ‘correctly spelled’ in a spell checker. Checking grammar is of yet not an option, and when English is NOT your native language it is actually fairly common to keep thinking in your Native Grammar rules, and translating the words into English (for your reading pleasure).

Now, pointing out that something is continuously written wrong as part of educating people doesn’t have to be a bad thing. But I see all to often that this turns into some sort of mockery of the non-English speakers that make certain ‘mistakes’ as if they ’can’t spell’, while the real truth is, that English isn’t the language of the world, and those that do come here are more then likely doing their best to let themselves be heard.

Lastly, and this is where my pet peeve (besides the mockery in the undertone of the self-centered, that don’t think beyond their own borders) mostly comes from. As a non native English speaker I use context to understand foreign languages, as such I can understand what is being said (even in other languages like French, German and various ‘latin based’ languages.) From this my understanding is that if you are unable to read passed some minor spelling or grammar mistakes, and are only able to read ‘perfectly spelled, formulated’ language you are actually rather ‘bad’ at language…

That’s really not the problem. Many non-native speakers spell a lot better than native speakers. You’re not a native speaker, and your spelling is flawless. I’m not a native speaker either.

When somebody who is obviously struggling with the English language does their best to make themselves understood, nobody talks down on them. At least I haven’t see that on these forums.

Most of the things mentioned in this thread though are mistakes commonly made by native speakers who just weren’t paying attention in school and/or just don’t seem to care at all. It’s not the skill level that bothers me but the attitude.

No, “Gates of Maguuma” is not what took months of development.

What took months of development is the ENTIRE setup for “Gates of Maguuma”, “Entangled” and a dozen or more similar updates, each of which containing a roughly similar amount of content as “Gates of Maguuma”. That means about 4 story instances, and more additions to the world map (likely including more Dry Top).

If you don’t know who Aerin is, you should have gotten a few clues:
1. Aerin was a rather noticeable NPC in Labyrinthine Cliffs over the past two months.
2. Various clues and NPCs strewn across Dry Top and the story instances slowly reveal Aerin’s identity. And you are required to collect most of them to progress the story. It’s your responsibility not to read any of it.

If you don’t know who the Master of Peace is, you should have gotten a few clues:
1. He appeared before in the introductory story instance of Festival of the Four Winds (which was available for just under two months).
2. He is specifically mentioned as being “the leader of the zephyrites” by Marjory and Kasmeer in the “Fallen Hopes” story instance.
3. Your entire purpose in the “Cornered” story instance is to find and save the Master of Peace. Various clues in Dry Top pointed the way to the instance.

Again, not paying attention is your own responsibility. Do you also watch movies with the sound turned off?

Wasn’t the sylvari there already a year ago? Trying to hook up with the zephyrites?

Suggestion: Shaddow Assassin Gender Swaps

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Pixelpumpkin.4608

Pixelpumpkin.4608

However, i think anet is more concerned with time at this point. Thats one of the reasons they want to do outfits now, because its less time splitting up the peices and seeing how they interact with other peices.

That’s why I don’t understand that they put in the time to create two separate outfits but then deny each character one of the two based on the gender and sell it as one.

If you’re pressed for time, then why design something completely different for the two genders?

If you have the time to design two, why not sell them separately and make more money?

because you believe the cost of retailoring it to the other gender doesnt = the projected profits from its sale.
IE they think that if they only have the time to tailor one male, and one female, they are going to pick the male on they think will sell the best, and the female one they think will sell the best.

That makes no sense: with limited resources, it is still much more efficient to create and then retailor a single armor than to create two separate ones.

Slayer Achievement

I do wish that the new Vine Tendril enemies counted as Plant Slayer, honestly.

I think the vines are closely related to Mordremoth and thus should count towards “Blighted Bane” (if that existed…) to be consistent with the other dragon minion slayer achievements.

What made me wonder is that other actual plants (I forgot what they’re called but those hostile bushes by that grawl tribe) don’t count towards plant slayer. Or any other slayer achievement as far as I know.

Should Modremoth die this year?

in Living World

Posted by: Pixelpumpkin.4608

Pixelpumpkin.4608

I agree with the OP. I had very similar thoughts.

Well, actually, I’m pretty easy to please and I’d be okay with either; but I’d be more okay with Mordremoth not getting defeated immediately (not to mention that some dungeon paths, boss fights etc. would make a lot less sense). I feel that a) the dragon should radically change the world and b) its defeat should, again, radically change the world. Not sure we have the resources to credibly do all these things in one season.
